00:00:00.000 so sadly it seems that we do not really live in a free market economy anymore now i know that's a
00:00:11.360 really big statement but i'm going to go through it and explain to you why i don't think that's
00:00:14.940 the case now obviously you're going to tell me that that has to do with the lockdowns and yes
00:00:19.060 it does have to do with lockdowns but this video is not itself about lockdowns i'm not a medical
00:00:24.040 professional and i am not commenting on the medical situation the safety concerns that
00:00:29.460 exist out there or the cases that exist out there i'm simply talking about the results in which the
00:00:35.020 free market has been damaged and i want to go through some of the rationale because i think that
00:00:38.820 is the biggest problem so to start off though what is a free market now a lot of people might think
00:00:43.720 that a free market is basically a free-for-all you can buy and sell do whatever you want but the main
00:00:49.400 hallmarks of a free market are basically that there is no coercion people are free to buy and sell what
00:00:54.220 they like everything works on the laws of supply and demand and so people are going to be moving
00:00:59.180 product or materials resources around the economy based on supply and demand and prices are going
00:01:03.940 to reflect there's no there's no coercion or central planning or government interference in in that
00:01:09.420 direct manner that a free market has now there's going to be obviously some scaffolding that you
00:01:14.020 could think of as the free market is built on that would be courts laws rules something you have a
00:01:19.360 bit of structure so that you know that you have some safety if you're trying to build something you
00:01:24.160 get maybe a patent uh you can you know reliably sue people or uh you know there's a court system if
00:01:30.160 your suppliers don't give you the product but you've paid them on time so these type of things
00:01:33.380 can assist a free market they don't necessarily hinder it again depends specific details what
00:01:37.820 we're talking about but in a nutshell that's what a free market is so the lockdowns obviously have
00:01:44.180 put a stop to that in many ways because the free choice the coerced transactions they're not
00:01:50.920 coerced in the sense that the government is telling me i have to buy product a or product b
00:01:54.420 they might not even be limiting the amount of products that are available to me at the store
00:01:58.980 shelves they are however limiting the amount of store shelves that i can visit so because big box
00:02:04.200 stores tend to be the main thing that stays open in most of the country and right now i'm in ontario
00:02:08.780 and so this video is going to use a lot of ontario stats but if you're limiting the places that i can
00:02:13.440 go to shop then you are in essence limiting my choices because as great as maybe walmart might be
00:02:20.020 or the real canadian superstore might be or any of the large big box stores that are still open
00:02:25.220 as great as those stores might be they're not going to have every single product that i myself
00:02:28.940 might be looking for so my choices are automatically limited by that sheer fact there you have a
00:02:34.260 certain amount of square footage they cannot and will not stock everything and if we're talking
00:02:37.960 about online shopping then that might be true you might have more options there but the issue is
00:02:42.920 that that's one company that's one main company we all know the company it's amazon that's one
00:02:47.320 company that is now dominating the online delivery space and that is amazon and so my ability to shop
00:02:55.220 and maybe a local store which does not have delivery maybe there's no curbside pickup allowed or there's
00:03:00.580 no you know direct indoor shopping allowed where i am with restrictions then that is going to
00:03:05.140 obviously affect the free market and the amount of choices that i have so that's all kind of theoretical
00:03:09.860 but what's really the problem the problem really is and especially in ontario the problem is the
00:03:15.260 sources of these outbreaks which don't seem to mesh with the decisions being made and i know a lot of
00:03:20.320 people have spoken about that you might even have seen some other stories either on true north or in
00:03:24.720 other media outlets but i want to go through the data with you because i think it's really important
00:03:27.960 that everyone see for themselves the data and i'm going to pull up here the ontario covid website now
00:03:32.820 they have a section here cases by outbreak setting they have different colors you can see here on the
00:03:37.620 graph purple is for long-term care homes that would be hospitals and retirement homes
00:03:41.440 uh the sort of pinky color is for group homes or supportive housing um the sort of mustardy green
00:03:47.660 would be child care so it's any any schooling or anything uh the yellow is going to be bars 0.98
00:03:53.220 restaurants or nightclubs and then the blue is going to be workplace so the big question is where
00:03:58.800 are the cases coming from now if you look at the chart with the default the default setting of all of
00:04:04.840 the top places where it's going to be the number one source of these outbreaks is very clearly long-term
00:04:11.760 care facilities so this is seniors homes retirement homes any of those type of places where people are
00:04:18.340 living where the elderly are this is the number one source of the covid cases and that's also going 0.97
00:04:24.900 to then be by default because it's the number one source of cases it's going to be the number one source
00:04:28.440 of deaths number one source of possible spread because people going in and out of these places workers
00:04:34.020 etc this is going to be where it is coming from and so the effect that long-term care homes have on the
00:04:40.840 rest of society might be questionable you might be able to find a way to limit that spread from that
00:04:46.920 particular sector to other sectors of society or other areas of society especially with the people
00:04:51.000 who are working there having you know maybe to take extra precautions or taking tests on a more
00:04:54.640 regular basis but the idea that i have to be limited where i can shop is simply not borne out in
00:05:01.000 the data because the data shows and the you know the most recent one that i have as of the making
00:05:05.620 of this video is december 17th so for ontario 101 cases for long-term care homes zero from bars and
00:05:11.980 restaurants one from retail 13 from group homes and zero from child care on december 17th 2020 so
00:05:19.420 you know if you were going to say that we're going to have a free market economy that we're still
00:05:24.320 going to allow people to make the choices that's simply not true we don't have a free market economy
00:05:28.900 in that way anymore does it mean that it will come back possibly does it mean that we will see an end
00:05:34.420 to this virus hopefully that we will see an end to it soon and we will you know get to that point where
00:05:38.680 people are vaccinated and there's no danger there's no crazy danger that might you know the virus might
00:05:43.680 still be out there but it's not going to be to the extent that we're living in now and we'll be able
00:05:48.120 to have once again that free market in that we will not be coerced or prevented from making the economic
00:05:53.880 choices that we would like to make and purchasing or not purchasing things that we would like to purchase
00:05:58.420 so again a lot of stuff to think about as always but i really hope that seeing the data for yourself
00:06:03.500 will make a big difference so once more for true north i am sam ashkenazi thank you so so much for
