00:00:00.000 Dutch political commentator Ava Wladenderbroek has risen to prominence on the global political
00:00:06.380 stage following her involvement in the Dutch farmers' protest. This was a working-class
00:00:13.400 protest movement similar to the Freedom Convoy, except that it demanded an end to the Mark Ruta
00:00:20.980 government's nitrogen policies, which farmers said would be detrimental to their industry.
00:00:28.340 Now, Ava was in Ottawa speaking as part of the Christine Anderson's Make It Your Business Tour,
00:00:37.200 which was a tour by the Trinity Productions, and the theme was basically encouraging people to
00:00:43.920 be involved more politically in increased civic engagement. And I had the opportunity to catch up
00:00:50.920 with Ava after her speech. We discussed the recent surprise victory of right-wing populist
00:00:57.980 Geert Wilders in the Netherlands, the impacts that the farmers' movement had on this victory, as well as
00:01:04.780 what does this mean for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who is a politician who is similar to the outgoing
00:01:11.680 Prime Minister Mark Ruta. I also wanted to ask Ava about cancel culture. If you read our news at
00:01:20.480 True North, you may have heard that the initial venue for the event, the Ottawa Conference and Event
00:01:27.220 Centre, cancelled on them, citing connections to hate speech. This is quite common in Canada, where
00:01:35.820 left-wing groups will pressure venues to cancel because they don't like the speakers. This is all
00:01:43.060 part, of course, of wokeism, which mostly comes from the United States. So I wanted to ask her, in the
00:01:48.800 Netherlands, is this wokeism and cancel culture as big as a problem as it is here? So I guess for people
00:01:57.280 maybe, have maybe heard of you, but don't know you that well, could you explain how you kind of rose to
00:02:03.200 prominence in the global political sphere, the Dutch political sphere, etc?
00:02:06.720 Oh, sure, yeah. It was kind of by accident, to be honest with you. I was a law student back in 2015
00:02:13.180 during the refugee crisis in Europe, and I had all sorts of opinions that got me in trouble with my
00:02:19.420 professors and my fellow students. And I was at a meeting one day, I was listening to a lecture by
00:02:26.680 someone who was a bit more on the right, and I met a journalist there, and that journalist asked me,
00:02:32.960 he was like, would you maybe talk to me about your experience in university and how, you know, there was a
00:02:38.140 lack of academic freedom? And I said, yeah, sure, I will. And that changed my life. So it all started out
00:02:44.840 there.
00:02:45.700 Right. We've seen in the last week at Gatewil, there is a, when he surprised government, a lot of people weren't
00:02:52.400 expecting this. He's tried to run multiple times in the past, and he's failed. What did you make of this
00:02:56.820 surprise victory? What message do you think this sends?
00:02:59.060 I mean, it was an amazing surprise. And I will say it was a surprise, because indeed, it was
00:03:03.780 unexpected and unprecedented, because the PVV, Gatewil, this party is a nationalist, right-wing,
00:03:09.820 very strong anti-immigration party. And they have been, you know, ridiculed, demonized for as long as
00:03:16.360 they exist. I grew up thinking that the PVV was a party for stupid people, you know, or that was what
00:03:22.300 I was being told, at least. And now, one in four Dutch people went out to vote for them. I
00:03:28.700 personally went out to vote for them as well. And I'm just overjoyed with the result, really.
00:03:33.860 It's a really strong signal, I think, that people are done with the intimidation game of being called
00:03:39.460 for right Nazis, you know, all sorts of extreme labels for perfectly normal, healthy opinions,
00:03:46.480 and criticism of mass migration, you know, that the fact that that is now something that people dare
00:03:52.680 to come out for and say, like, hey, I actually don't agree with open border policies. I don't like
00:03:59.240 the fact that my country, it has changed beyond recognition. And I don't care anymore what you call
00:04:03.980 me, I'm going to go out and vote for this party and demand change. I think that's a really good sign.
00:04:08.840 This election took place after the farmers revolt that we saw in 2022, similar to the convoy, a issue
00:04:15.520 where the working class kind of rose up against the governing class. Do you think that had an impact in
00:04:20.200 his victory? Or do you think was just other issues all coming together? Oh, it absolutely, you know,
00:04:25.840 had an impact. The farmers movement was beyond just, you know, the rights of our farmers. It was
00:04:33.540 something that stood for a bigger problem. And indeed, it was the globalist, elitist class against
00:04:40.640 the ordinary people and that class trying to take away their rights. You know, it to me, it was
00:04:47.120 important because I saw, if they can do this to the farmers, they can do it to everyone. And I think
00:04:52.700 that that is something that the Dutch people have woken up to. They don't think it is fair what our
00:04:56.960 government has tried to do to our farmers and is, you know, European Union is still trying to do. And
00:05:02.680 Geert Wilders is someone who has always from the get go, been against the expropriation of our farmers. He
00:05:08.400 also wants to leave the EU, which is something that I'm extremely in favor of. And if we end up doing that, we
00:05:14.540 might actually stand a chance against this tyranny. Justin Trudeau here also saw kind of a working
00:05:20.420 class revolt with the convoy. Do you think in the next election, we don't know when this is going to
00:05:25.180 be because we have a minority government, but do you expect Canadians to give similar results to the
00:05:31.320 Netherlands and maybe vote him out or? I sure hope so. I mean, it's about time that you guys vote him
00:05:37.540 out. And you know, the thing is, is that we didn't expect the Dutch people to go and vote for shared
00:05:43.200 builders in these vast numbers either. You know, so even if it seems like, oh, Canadians won't wake
00:05:48.740 up, Canadians won't go and do that. You know, the voting booth is still anonymous. And, and you might
00:05:55.940 be surprised what happens. Like I said, we didn't see it coming either. So I have good hopes that the
00:06:00.860 silent majority is not going to be as silent anymore next time around. And lastly, the event was
00:06:07.580 supposed to take place at another venue, the Ottawa event and conference center, and they canceled.
00:06:11.920 And they said that you and Miss Christine Anderson are connected to hate speech, and therefore
00:06:17.400 shouldn't be welcomed here. This is quite common here in Canada and the US, wokeism, cancel culture.
00:06:22.800 Is that a phenomenon phenomenon that we see in the Netherlands? Is that wokeism and cancel culture? Is it
00:06:27.800 as prominent as it is here? Or are people better than that? No, it's, it's absolutely as prominent
00:06:33.300 as it is here. You know, this is all the neo Marxist, you know, BS agenda that is global in essence
00:06:39.920 anyway. So you have the same type of stuff back at home. But, you know, look at us where we found
00:06:44.640 another venue, like, you know, see if I care, if you call me, whatever they said, I think they call
00:06:51.120 this unethical. And then they misspelled unethical, which tells you all you need to know, you know,
00:06:55.840 if you support our work at True North at bringing you the other side of the story, the other side that
