00:00:00.000 Prime Minister Justin Trudeau lectures the Montreal Canadiens on sexual misconduct and the whole world rolls her eyes.
00:00:06.080 I'm Candice Malcolm and this is The Candice Malcolm Show.
00:00:13.020 Hi everyone, thank you so much for tuning in today.
00:00:15.580 I want to talk about the story that everyone's talking about,
00:00:18.220 mostly because Prime Minister Justin Trudeau sort of inserted himself into a story that he really, really should not have.
00:00:24.600 So I'm talking about a London Knights NHL prospect named Logan Mayhew.
00:00:28.660 Mayhew is a star defenseman who had been expected to be drafted in the first round this year,
00:00:33.260 but then he fell into some legal trouble while he was on loan with a Sweden team.
00:00:38.200 His OHL team didn't play this season because of COVID, so he went over and played in Sweden.
00:00:43.580 I'll read a report from July 16th in the London Free Press newspaper.
00:00:48.140 It says, according to hockey journalist Frank Cervalli, who runs dailyfaceoff.com,
00:00:52.860 Blue Liner Logan Mayhew took a photo of a woman without her consent during consensual sex
00:00:58.940 and then distributed it to teammates on SK Lyon, a team in Sweden's 3rd Division.
00:01:05.420 Mayhew was 17 at the time and the woman was 18 according to the report.
00:01:10.220 It is our understanding the situation has been resolved in Sweden and Mayhew has apologized.
00:01:15.160 A Knights team statement read.
00:01:17.660 Mayhew was eventually charged with defamation and offensive photography.
00:01:20.860 Dailyfaceoff.com reported he was ordered to pay a fine to take the matter out of the court system,
00:01:27.200 the Hockey News website reported.
00:01:28.960 He is quoted as apologizing for the incident in the article.
00:01:33.120 So that was on July 16th.
00:01:34.780 And then on July 20th, Mayhew took a very unprecedented step.
00:01:38.720 He posted this on his social media.
00:01:40.600 So he writes,
00:01:41.340 Being drafted into the NHL is an honor and a privilege that no one takes lightly.
00:01:45.400 The NHL draft should be one of the most exciting landmark moments in a player's career.
00:01:49.680 And given the circumstances, I don't feel I have demonstrated strong enough maturity or character
00:01:54.280 to earn the privilege in the 2021 draft.
00:01:57.760 If I were to ever have the honor being selected,
00:02:00.900 I would want a fan base to be proud and welcome me into their organization.
00:02:04.200 I know it will take some time for society to build back the trust I have lost.
00:02:07.680 And that is why I think it is best that I renounce myself from the 2021 NHL draft
00:02:12.220 and ask that no one select me this upcoming weekend.
00:02:15.440 I feel that this would allow me the opportunity to demonstrate an adequate level of maturity
00:02:20.100 and character next season with the London Knights in the OHL
00:02:23.520 and provide all the NHL teams the opportunity to reassess my character towards the 2022 NHL draft.
00:02:31.280 And he signs it, Logan Mayhew.
00:02:33.660 So fair enough.
00:02:34.280 I mean, it's sort of interesting that he is showing maturity by posting a statement like this
00:02:38.560 and recognizing the mistakes he made.
00:02:41.320 And just to be clear, the sexual act he engaged in was consensual.
00:02:45.240 That was not the illegal part.
00:02:46.760 The illegal part was that he apparently took photos of it and shared it with his teammates.
00:02:51.700 So Mayhew's actions were wrong and it is completely fair game to criticize him.
00:02:55.860 Then the story got even bigger because over the weekend,
00:02:58.720 the Montreal Canadiens decided to ignore Mayhew's own request.
00:03:02.560 And they drafted him anyway.
00:03:04.460 He was selected in the first round.
00:03:07.380 Now, again, perhaps there's reasons why.
00:03:09.520 Perhaps they assessed Mayhew's performance and looked at the maturity of putting out that statement
00:03:13.760 and decided that he was ready.
00:03:15.560 Or they decided that, you know, he was going to have to spend a year or two
00:03:18.280 in the Canadian system anyway.
00:03:20.660 So they might as well draft him.
00:03:22.200 But I think the problem really happened when the coaching staff
00:03:25.500 seemed completely unable to provide an answer.
00:03:29.080 They just hadn't really thought it through, it seems.
00:03:31.060 So this is what it looked like when a journalist asked about this question.
00:03:35.080 Regarding Logan, in his statement, he says that he thought that he did not
00:03:40.960 earn the right to be drafted.
00:03:44.240 Why?
00:03:45.340 I mean, based on that, if the player thinks that, why do you think the opposite?
00:03:51.260 What do you mean, what do I think the opposite?
00:04:15.280 Can you expand on that a little bit?
00:04:18.560 So this is when it blew up and became an even bigger story in the sports world.
00:04:22.600 And there are lots of very, very valid reasons to criticize the Montreal Canadiens
00:04:26.780 for their decision.
00:04:28.880 But then something really remarkable happened.
00:04:31.620 The Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, decided that he wanted to get into this debate.
00:04:36.040 He decided that he wanted to comment on it.
00:04:37.840 So here he is slamming the Montreal Canadiens and saying that he is deeply disappointed.
00:04:44.860 As a lifelong Habs fan, I have to say I am deeply disappointed by the decision.
00:04:50.560 I think it was a lack of judgment by the Canadiens organization.
00:04:55.320 I think they have a lot of explaining to do to Montrealers and to fans from right across the country.
00:05:00.120 So the very fact that Justin Trudeau imagines himself to be qualified to talk on this topic,
00:05:05.480 that he thinks that he is the moral authority when it comes to sexual misconduct,
00:05:10.240 is quite frankly absurd.
00:05:12.180 So Melu was 17 years old at the time when he made his regrettable mistake,
00:05:16.680 which, to be clear, was against the law.
00:05:18.240 He broke the law.
00:05:19.420 Now, Justin Trudeau, meanwhile, was 28 years old
00:05:22.740 when he admittedly groped a female reporter who was trying to do her job
00:05:27.140 at a music festival back in 2000.
00:05:29.380 To be clear, what Justin Trudeau did was not illegal.
00:05:32.660 He was never charged or convicted of any crimes.
00:05:35.480 But still, he did admit to doing this.
00:05:38.420 I say he admitted it because according to an anonymous editorial,
00:05:42.540 we learned that was actually written by the victim.
00:05:45.600 Trudeau apologized for groping this woman the next day.
00:05:49.180 So this is what the editorial says.
00:05:50.920 Now, again, this was written back in 2000.
00:05:53.340 It says, quote,
00:05:54.520 I'm sorry.
00:05:55.680 If I had known you were reporting for a national paper,
00:05:58.060 I would have never been so forward, unquote.
00:06:00.620 Those were the words that were spoken to an advance reporter by Justin Trudeau,
00:06:04.160 son of former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau on August 4th.
00:06:07.680 Trudeau, who was in Crescent to celebrate the Kokanee Summit Festival
00:06:10.680 put on by the Columbia Brewery,
00:06:12.780 apologized a day later for inappropriately handling the reporter
00:06:17.060 while she was on assignment,
00:06:18.420 not only for the advance but also for the National Post and the Vancouver Sun.
00:06:22.980 Quote,
00:06:23.620 If I had known you were reporting for a national paper,
00:06:26.580 but shouldn't the son of a former prime minister be aware of the rights and wrongs
00:06:30.560 that go along with public socializing?
00:06:32.840 Didn't he learn through his vast experiences in public life
00:06:35.340 that groping a strange young woman isn't in the handbook of proper etiquette,
00:06:40.120 regardless of who she is,
00:06:41.880 what her business is,
00:06:43.020 or where they are?
00:06:45.100 That's pretty devastating stuff.
00:06:46.800 Okay, the story went from bad to worse for Justin Trudeau
00:06:49.620 when he was finally confronted about the story by the legacy media several weeks later.
00:06:54.540 After all, at the time,
00:06:55.660 Justin Trudeau had painted himself as the model of male feminism.
00:06:59.580 He received great praise from the legacy media
00:07:02.220 for announcing that he was having a gender-balanced cabinet
00:07:05.460 with 50% men, 50% women, remember that?
00:07:08.240 And he also said that he was raising his two sons to be feminists.
00:07:12.580 So it was all a little shocking to hear that Trudeau wasn't really a feminist
00:07:16.420 and he wasn't really a gentleman in his personal life.
00:07:19.640 Well, instead of taking responsibility for it, apologizing, recognizing his mistakes,
00:07:24.780 much like the way that 18-year-old Logan Mayhew has done,
00:07:28.540 Trudeau did the opposite.
00:07:29.740 He turned it around and actually blamed his victim.
00:07:32.180 Is that sorry for how she feels or sorry for what happened?
00:07:35.300 Because we don't really know from your recollection what happened.
00:07:37.760 Well, I mean, and there's a lot of uncertainties around this
00:07:41.360 in terms of my recollection is that there was no untoward or inappropriate actions.
00:07:46.880 But she was in a professional context and, you know, who knows where her mind was
00:07:52.140 and I fully respect her ability to experience something differently
00:07:55.960 and that's the whole conversation we have to be having around this,
00:07:59.320 that people experience things differently and we have to be much more thoughtful
00:08:03.060 and that's a great part of the collective awakening we have.
00:08:06.160 That was very infuriating for many women to watch, many Canadians to watch.
00:08:10.120 He said that who knows where her head was at, again, blaming her,
00:08:14.040 saying that she was the one who was at fault for seeing it this way
00:08:16.960 and then flat out saying that she experienced it differently than him.
00:08:21.760 It doesn't sound like Justin Trudeau had learned his lesson one bit,
00:08:26.180 but it turns out that that kind of behavior is pretty much normal in the Liberal caucus
00:08:30.620 and within the Liberal government.
00:08:32.520 The following is a list of Liberal MPs and high-ranking staff in the Prime Minister's office
00:08:38.040 who have each faced their own sexual scandals.
00:08:41.840 So here we go.
00:08:42.700 We have Liberal MP Marwan Tabara, who was a Liberal candidate in the 2019 election
00:08:49.300 and he was a candidate despite the fact that he was under investigation
00:08:52.740 prior to an incident from 2015 where he allegedly directed sexual comments
00:08:57.980 and inappropriately touched a female staffer.
00:09:00.560 Next, MP Kent Hare.
00:09:03.080 While serving as the Minister of Sport and Persons with Disability,
00:09:08.460 Liberal MP Kent Hare was accused by two separate women of sexual harassment.
00:09:13.220 Prime Minister Justin Trudeau kept Hare in the Liberal caucus
00:09:16.000 despite these allegations being made against him.
00:09:19.660 Next, MP Darshan Khan.
00:09:21.520 Two female staffers came forward with information about Kang's alleged inappropriate behavior.
00:09:26.120 According to the Hill Times, Kang was under investigation by the House of Commons
00:09:29.660 chief human resources officer.
00:09:31.840 One of the accusers claimed that Kang forced himself on her,
00:09:35.380 kissing her and grabbing her without consent.
00:09:38.180 Next, MP Hunter Tutu, former Liberal cabinet minister and Nunavut MP.
00:09:43.240 He apologized in 2016 after reports revealed that he had had an inappropriate relationship
00:09:48.480 with someone in his office.
00:09:49.860 All right, next we have MP Massimo Passetti and MP Scott Andrews.
00:09:55.020 Now you might remember before Trudeau even became prime minister,
00:09:58.500 these two MPs were kicked out of the Liberal caucus
00:10:01.660 because Trudeau came out and said an NDP MP had come to him
00:10:06.500 to talk about sexual misconduct claims.
00:10:09.820 So for Passetti, he was accused of having sex with a woman without explicit consent.
00:10:15.100 And for MP Andrews, one woman claimed that he had sexually harassed her
00:10:19.280 and two other possible victims were also identified.
00:10:24.300 And it doesn't end there.
00:10:25.080 PMO, former director of operations, Claude Eric Gagnon,
00:10:28.560 was forced to resign from his position
00:10:30.400 after being under investigation for inappropriate sexual behavior.
00:10:35.060 And it isn't just MPs and staffers.
00:10:37.260 The problem with sexual misconduct in the Trudeau government
00:10:39.700 seems to have seeped into the military as well.
00:10:42.500 So you've probably heard of this story of General Jonathan Vance,
00:10:47.660 who served as the chief of defense staff,
00:10:49.900 which is the highest ranking civil service position in the military.
00:10:54.000 They report directly to the minister of national defense.
00:10:57.220 Well, General Jonathan Vance resigned from this position
00:11:00.060 after his own sexual scandal was revealed.
00:11:03.880 So Vance was hand-selected to serve in this position by Trudeau and by the liberals.
00:11:08.180 And so perhaps because of this, when Minister Harjit Sajan,
00:11:11.480 who's the national defense minister,
00:11:13.120 when he learned of Vance having an inappropriate sexual relationship
00:11:16.780 with a woman who reported directly to him in his chain of demand,
00:11:21.380 Sajan looked the other way.
00:11:23.780 Complaints about General Vance made its way all the way up to the prime minister's office
00:11:27.600 and to Trudeau's chief of staff, Katie Tilford, who was told in 2018,
00:11:32.900 Trudeau himself denies knowing about any of this.
00:11:35.040 And when he was asked if he was upset that nobody told him, he said no.
00:11:39.780 The story keeps going, though, because in April 2021,
00:11:42.540 amid the ongoing scandal and investigation into General Vance,
00:11:46.160 the liberals shut down a probe into the allegations of high-level sexual misconduct
00:11:51.380 in the Canadian forces.
00:11:53.100 Because nothing says we have nothing to hide, quite like shutting down an investigation.
00:11:57.820 But we know Justin Trudeau is a fake feminist.
00:12:02.920 We all know that.
00:12:03.860 He kicked a strong Indigenous woman, Jody Wilson-Raybould, out of his cabinet
00:12:07.700 because she dared to defy his orders when he asked her to break the rules
00:12:12.160 and give a contract to his sketchy friends over at SNC-Lavalin.
00:12:16.840 Raybould said no, and so Trudeau fired her.
00:12:19.320 He then kicked Raybould, as well as Minister Jane Philpott, who had defended Raybould.
00:12:23.280 He kicked them both out of the Liberal Caucus, and MP Selina Cesar Shevanas
00:12:28.740 also quit the Liberal Caucus, as well.
00:12:32.580 Trudeau is the last person who can credibly speak on this topic.
00:12:35.920 So instead of lecturing the NHL, lecturing the Montreal Canadiens,
00:12:39.340 and lecturing some 18-year-old kid, how about Trudeau focus on getting his own affairs in order?
00:12:45.120 People who live in glass houses should not throw stones, Prime Minister.
00:12:49.220 I'm Candace Malcolm, and this is The Candace Malcolm Show.
00:12:53.280 You know what?
