Willie Tam Tam is in Belo Horizonte, Brazil for Day 3 of the COP30 Climate Conference. He catches up with Minister DabrĂș Singh after his speech, but is not allowed to ask him any questions.
00:00:05.460Now, earlier today this morning, I caught up with Minister Stephen GalbĂł, or at least tried to, at the event at the Canadian Pavilion where he was speaking.
00:00:13.720Now, he gave a speech, he talked, there were no questions allowed during the session, so I waited politely outside to see if I can get to engage with him afterwards.
00:00:22.660And like Minister DabrĂș Singh, he too was also muted to Canadian media. He did not speak to me, didn't engage with me, didn't even acknowledge I was there.
00:00:33.120He kept moving on across the hallways along with interacting with the Chinese briefly.
00:00:37.840He shook the hands of a member of the Chinese delegation, actually the head of the Chinese delegation here in Brazil for COP30.
00:00:44.280As you know, the Chinese and their experts have engaged with me before. So has California Governor Gavin Newsom, the German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz.
00:00:52.660Governments from all over the world have been able to stand on their climate records. For better or worse, they have been able to engage with media, not only myself, but also my colleagues here around me.
00:01:01.760So the Canadian delegation has been absolutely muted. So here's a clip that I'm referring to from earlier with Guilbault.
00:01:08.900And, of course, I was asking him questions on the pipeline, possible project for the West Coast.
00:01:14.200And, you know, tomorrow we'll have more information on Prime Minister Carney's approved list of projects.
00:01:20.160And, of course, the oil sector and whether or not Alberta will have any sort of relief from Ottawa finally.
00:01:26.220But here's that clip for you guys now.
00:01:28.620Is Canada moving back on its climate commitments, sir?
00:01:30.780Are we moving backwards or forwards, sir?
00:01:38.920Is there any case you would support a West Coast pipeline tomorrow morning?
00:01:42.320There will be new projects announced by the PM?
00:02:03.660We have no idea to date whether or not Canada will be shifting off millions or billions of our taxpayer dollars to any or many initiatives here at COP30.
00:02:13.080We have, in principle, signed on to some UN commitments here, but we have no details as to when and where that money will be going and how much of it exactly will be shipped out.
00:02:23.280We'll do more work, hopefully, to ask questions again and see if we can get any details.
00:02:27.340Talk to any spokespersons we have here on the ground, and Trunaut will do its journalism due diligence to get all the details for you, if possible.
