00:00:00.000 Justin Trudeau's carbon tax is going to court.
00:00:08.940 As I've talked about before, the federal government's imposed carbon tax on provinces
00:00:14.200 is going to be the subject of a constitutional question at a court in Ontario,
00:00:19.720 in Toronto specifically, coming up in just a couple of weeks in April.
00:00:24.020 Now this is going to be the second such case.
00:00:26.340 The first was in Saskatchewan, though this case is actually scheduled for an entire week,
00:00:31.080 four full days, there's a holiday on the other end of it,
00:00:34.340 that are going to be used for many groups to argue that a carbon tax is not just a job killer
00:00:40.900 and something that is simply a tax on Canadians,
00:00:44.220 but that the federal government doesn't have the right to impose it on provinces,
00:00:48.020 as Justin Trudeau has unilaterally tried to do.
00:00:51.260 Now this lawsuit's only happening because Ontario Premier Doug Ford decided
00:00:54.980 that he was going to make it a priority of his new government in Ontario to resist Justin Trudeau.
00:01:00.780 It's a similar decision to the one taken by Premier Scott Moe in Saskatchewan,
00:01:05.140 Premier Higgs, and potentially Premier Kenny in Alberta,
00:01:08.160 depending on what happens in that province's election in a couple of weeks.
00:01:11.820 This is all a lengthy wind-up to say that this constitutional question in Ontario,
00:01:16.980 in two weeks, is going to be one of the most critical tests of the carbon tax.
00:01:21.700 It's going to be more extensive than the Saskatchewan case.
00:01:25.160 It's going to include the Saskatchewan government, which is intervening,
00:01:28.920 as well as other groups like the Canadian Taxpayers Federation
00:01:31.900 and several other stakeholders who are going to be arguing the point that I just laid out for you.
00:01:37.360 But there's also going to be a lot of resistance to this.
00:01:39.900 Environmental groups who have been lobbying for years for carbon tax schemes and cap-and-trade schemes
00:01:45.140 are going to be saying that not only is the government entitled to do something like this,
00:01:49.740 but the government should do something like this.
00:01:52.920 And it may get a little bit dry and in the weeds at some points,
00:01:56.280 but this is a very significant case,
00:01:58.860 and ultimately one that has wide-ranging implications for ordinary Canadians,
00:02:03.860 which is why True North has committed to being there to cover it,
00:02:06.700 and why I personally have committed to being there to cover it.
00:02:10.460 We're going to be in the courtroom, going to be tweeting every day,
00:02:13.420 going to be writing articles, going to be doing video updates,
00:02:16.500 going to be sharing what the key arguments are that are really driving this case.
00:02:21.620 Unfortunately for True North, or fortunately I'd say in the long run,
00:02:25.860 we don't have access to the CBC billion-dollar budget or the Justin Trudeau media fund.
00:02:31.200 We are a grassroots effort, which means every dollar we spend
00:02:34.640 is a dollar that comes from people that are backing the work that we're doing,
00:02:38.520 which is why I come to you with something of an appeal today.
00:02:41.780 We're doing something we've never done before.
00:02:43.860 We're crowdfunding a specific project,
00:02:46.380 which means if you'd like to see this carbon tax trial coverage,
00:02:49.860 if you'd like to see us cover this and share this
00:02:52.460 and get through the mainstream media spin on it,
00:02:55.000 well, you can support it specifically.
00:02:57.400 From hotel to videography and a couple of other incidental costs,
00:03:00.740 it's going to run us about $3,000.
00:03:03.640 Now, this is something that we're doing right.
00:03:05.900 We don't want to do it if we're not able to actually get the coverage we need.
00:03:09.720 And we just put out a little thing on our website,
00:03:12.160 and already we are one-third funded.
00:03:14.900 But I need your help to get to the finish line.
00:03:17.420 If you can chip in $10, $20,
00:03:19.460 if you can chip in $100, $200,
00:03:21.820 it's up to you, but we need your support.
00:03:24.220 We need to break through this mainstream media narrative.
00:03:26.880 And ultimately, this is about the case
00:03:28.680 that can take down Justin Trudeau's carbon tax.
00:03:31.480 And I'd say that's worth a few bucks.
00:03:32.960 For True North, I'm Andrew Lutton.
00:03:35.900 True North, I'm Andrew Lutton.
00:03:37.240 Appreciate it.
00:03:39.100 You
