00:00:00.000 Hey there, I'm Kian Bextie. This is The Counter Signal. And today we are going to be reviewing
00:00:09.620 and live reacting to a speech you may have already seen before. I'd be surprised if you hadn't,
00:00:14.400 because this speech has been one of the most viewed political moments in the country since
00:00:19.960 the election. It might be the most viewed speech since the election, actually, aside from maybe
00:00:26.640 King Charles's own speech that he delivered on behalf of Mark Kearney in the Senate building
00:00:31.380 just a week ago. This speech that I'm talking about is what was delivered by my father, David Bextie,
00:00:37.880 in Parliament. He's right now a rookie member of Parliament for the Conservative Party.
00:00:44.200 And we'll go through the speech, which you may have seen already. I want to live react to it.
00:00:49.520 I grew up in the region that he is talking about in this speech. So I understand a lot about the
00:00:58.340 people that he's speaking on behalf of, and why I think the speech that he gave resonated so much
00:01:06.240 with Canadians. It was a shock to me to see, obviously, my dad, who I grew up with, delivering
00:01:14.960 a speech in the House of Commons, for one. I mean, that's kind of weird for anyone. But to see it
00:01:20.220 be him and this guy that I grew up with and look up to, see it be so well received by the country
00:01:29.560 was really humbling. It did show, just to pontificate a little bit, it did show that there was
00:01:37.180 still a very clear divide in this country. The mainstream media wants Canadians to think that,
00:01:44.880 oh, you know, Mark Carney's in now. This is a new era. This is a new government. And we've put
00:01:51.580 the silly times of Justin Trudeau behind us. Now we have serious good government. But in reality,
00:01:59.420 the people that saw the speech and shared it to millions of people, they have a different idea of
00:02:05.340 what's going on right now. They watched the election, and they were disappointed by the
00:02:11.300 results. And then they continued on with their lives, and things were still bad. They still are
00:02:18.600 struggling to afford groceries. They're still frustrated by traffic. They're still frustrated
00:02:24.340 by wait times in their hospitals, seeing the fentanyl crisis explode. They're frustrated seeing this
00:02:31.560 country be re-illustrated by the liberal government, who, as we reported recently, has not put the
00:02:39.200 brakes on immigration whatsoever. And when they see what David was talking about in this speech,
00:02:46.140 it resonated with them. And, you know, it resonated with me a lot too. So I want to go through it.
00:02:52.880 I want to share some of the comments first, because you've probably seen the speech. So me showing it to
00:02:58.220 again, isn't going to be hugely interesting, probably, unless I'm like, cutting through it and
00:03:02.600 sort of sharing my thoughts on it. But I want to share with you some of the thoughts that I'm seeing
00:03:07.180 on Twitter. Here's one. David Bexty's speech struck a chord with me. His story echoed everything I said
00:03:14.940 about the Canadian dream. When his dad came here, he didn't ask for a handout. He came with pride,
00:03:19.780 purpose, and a work ethic that built this country. That's what Canada was. That's what it should be.
00:03:24.920 That's something that it's not right now. People come here with the expectation of handouts.
00:03:30.880 They come here expecting a hotel room, expecting three square meals a day provided by
00:03:35.780 the liberal government. They have no plans on getting a serious job. I mean, maybe they would
00:03:41.180 if they could, if they could just, you know, they would if they could. But the problem is,
00:03:44.760 there are no jobs for them. There's only a certain amount of Uber Eats drivers that we can have
00:03:48.680 in this country. There's only a certain amount of subways. There's only a certain amount of Tim Hortons.
00:03:52.360 The problem is that the liberal government's immigration regime wasn't bringing in the best
00:03:58.000 and the brightest from around the world. They were bringing in new voters. That was the goal.
00:04:02.580 And now Canadians are rightfully frustrated because Canadians, you know, this David's father,
00:04:09.460 who he talked about here having fled communism, he had to work in the sugar beet fields for,
00:04:13.700 I think, three years to pay off his passage across the Atlantic. That doesn't happen anymore.
00:04:18.220 It doesn't happen at all. And people see the difference between out-of-control immigration
00:04:24.700 and pioneers that came to this country to build something.
00:04:27.860 Lily in the Valley says,
00:04:28.940 A little glimpse of light in the dark clouds Canada is in at the moment.
00:04:34.320 David H. says,
00:04:36.180 This was a great speech, but like you said, the MSM will never air this.
00:04:40.080 They only air the garbage that comes out of the mouths of liberals.
00:04:42.760 J.D. says,
00:04:44.080 It's enough to make you weep for the country we've lost, the country that no longer exists for our youth
00:04:48.660 and future generations. I love Alberta and don't want to see it go. On the other hand,
00:04:52.620 in my head, I had to cheer them on because they hold the power to crumble this corrupt federation.
00:04:58.360 Very true.
00:04:59.420 This was a historic speech that was delivered and I want to get to it. I'll start playing it
00:05:04.480 so that you can listen to it with me.
00:05:07.080 This particular one that we're going to watch was an edit that I saw on Instagram
00:05:12.660 from an Instagram account called Beautiful Canada.
00:05:15.200 They added some music to it and some B-roll.
00:05:18.400 It's pretty nice. Let's give it a watch.
00:05:20.480 Let's hit playing and see what all the fuss is about.
00:05:24.840 Mr. Speaker, I rise in this house today with humility and purpose.
00:05:29.020 I stand here with a promise,
00:05:31.360 one that shaped my family across generations.
00:05:34.400 I promise that if you work hard, raise your family and love your country,
00:05:39.200 you'll be free to live in dignity and peace.
00:05:42.460 I'm the great-grandson of a pioneer who broke the untamed fields of what would become Alberta
00:05:46.960 before there was power and pavement.
00:05:49.420 I'm also the son of a farmer who survived communism with nothing but his hands,
00:05:54.200 his family and the hope that Alberta would be a place where his children could speak freely,
00:05:59.100 live safely and never bow to a state that hated them.
00:06:02.420 Mr. Speaker, the writing that sent me here is called Bow River.
00:06:07.180 It's not just a place, it's a people.
00:06:09.680 It's a home. It's a promise.
00:06:12.280 You see, much like the people who rely on it,
00:06:14.560 the bow doesn't ask Ottawa's permission to float.
00:06:17.520 It carves through rocks.
00:06:18.920 It sustains life.
00:06:20.220 It cuts a path forward whether anyone is in this chamber or not.
00:06:23.540 The bow runs past oil wells shut down by people who have never set foot on a rig.
00:06:30.860 It flows past farms taxed by bureaucrats who couldn't grow a weed.
00:06:35.220 It flows past churches left to burn.
00:06:38.220 While politicians offered excuses instead of justice,
00:06:41.180 it flows past the homes of veterans.
00:06:43.700 Pause it right there for a second.
00:06:45.380 This was something that I was proud to see.
00:06:50.020 And I think that a lot,
00:06:51.200 this is one of the reasons why this speech blew up.
00:06:54.320 It's because no politician in this country seems interested at all in bringing up the church burning crisis.
00:07:02.640 If you look at Southern Alberta,
00:07:05.040 you can see the map that we put together at Juneau of all of the churches that have been burned down as a result of Justin Trudeau
00:07:13.240 and the lies that have come out in this country about the mass grave hoax.
00:07:20.260 It is a deliberate attack on a specific religion in this country.
00:07:24.740 One that if it was happening at this scale against synagogues or mosques,
00:07:32.200 the United Nations would be sending battalions here.
00:07:35.880 That's how bad it is.
00:07:37.100 But because it's Christians, nobody wants to talk about it.
00:07:40.340 And mentioning it here, I think, was important.
00:07:42.200 Anyways, we'll keep going.
00:07:43.680 Seniors and families forgotten by the system, but not by me.
00:07:48.780 The beautiful thing about the bow is this.
00:07:51.360 Even when the government grinds to a halt, it keeps flowing.
00:07:54.740 When politicians hostile to Alberta try to strangle our economy, it keeps flowing.
00:08:00.500 When bureaucrats and glass towers write the rules that cripple our farms, it keeps flowing.
00:08:05.740 When unelected judges rewrite our rules and call it progress, it keeps flowing.
00:08:11.000 When they shut down our churches, our rigs, and our rodeos, it keeps flowing.
00:08:16.340 The bow doesn't care about trendy acronyms or performative politics.
00:08:19.560 It cares about feeding cattle, watering crops, and quenching the thirst of a working land.
00:08:24.920 It fuels an ecosystem, an economy, and it helps feed the world.
00:08:29.320 It doesn't wait for permission.
00:08:31.340 It flows where it needs to flow.
00:08:33.060 And if it wasn't clear, Mr. Speaker, I'm not just talking about the river, I'm talking about the people.
00:08:38.360 Because just like the bow, we move with purpose.
00:08:43.080 And we're done with waiting for the rest of the country to catch up.
00:08:46.500 We don't need a national strategy.
00:08:48.500 We need Ottawa to get out of the way.
00:08:50.720 Mr. Speaker, I ran to represent the people who built this country,
00:08:54.300 and now watch it being dismantled by people who don't understand it.
00:08:58.240 And worse, don't even like it.
00:09:00.720 This week, the prime minister stood before this country and promised more of the same.
00:09:05.060 A new housing bureaucracy.
00:09:07.340 A new set of buzzwords instead of a budget.
00:09:09.440 Pause it for a second, because I want to go back to something that he said there.
00:09:12.980 Talking about the, I mean, this was a beautiful speech.
00:09:16.480 I have to give it to him.
00:09:17.700 This was cut, a little bit was cut out, I think, by this Instagram cut of it.
00:09:22.700 But at the beginning, he mentioned his time in 4-H Alberta,
00:09:25.220 which is what gave him the speaking skills that he has.
00:09:28.100 You know, I was in 4-H as well, and that contributed to my ability to public speak as well.
00:09:33.080 But this speech is a, you know, obviously he's my dad, so I like him, right?
00:09:38.760 But I would say this about anyone who delivered this speech,
00:09:42.520 or speech even close to this caliber.
00:09:46.800 That the feelings and emotions that he brings up,
00:09:51.740 talking about the Bow flowing, the Bow River is this major water artery
00:09:56.100 that goes through southern Alberta that, you know, irrigates,
00:09:59.360 provides water for the breadbasket of North America.
00:10:05.300 The way that he talks about it, it continuing to flow,
00:10:08.520 even if everything in Parliament is on fire.
00:10:11.240 Parliament could burn down today,
00:10:13.580 and the Bow River would continue to flow.
00:10:16.840 And he goes on to say that it's not just the Bow that he's talking about,
00:10:20.920 he's talking about the people of Alberta.
00:10:22.980 And in my mind, I think about the people in the oil and gas industry
00:10:27.160 who have been working for 10 years.
00:10:29.760 You know, the oil and gas industry crashed around 2013,
00:10:33.880 and they've been trying to recover.
00:10:35.440 And then they were hit by Justin Trudeau in 2015.
00:10:38.760 And then they had 10 years of that,
00:10:40.400 and now they have Mark Carney.
00:10:41.300 And they're still continuing, they're keeping on.
00:10:44.720 They're continuing to put pipe in the ground, drills in the ground,
00:10:49.660 pull oil out, and try to ship it to markets around the world,
00:10:53.100 despite every roadblock being put in front of them
00:10:56.160 by Justin Trudeau and Mark Carney.
00:10:59.580 And the message here, I think, you know,
00:11:01.480 David is an oil man himself.
00:11:03.900 He was an executive with Slumberger.
00:11:05.800 Okay, is Albert, you cannot put a roadblock in front of Albertans.
00:11:12.200 They will continue to do what they were meant to do.
00:11:15.320 And that is innovate, build an economy, build communities and family,
00:11:21.160 whether Ottawa wants them to or not.
00:11:23.560 Whether they get in their way,
00:11:25.100 they're going to continue doing the jobs that they need to do
00:11:27.760 to put food on the tables of their families.
00:11:30.100 I think that that is another reason why this resonated so much with Albertans.
00:11:35.620 And I shouldn't, you know, just say Albertans.
00:11:37.680 David's obviously an Albertan,
00:11:39.160 but this resonated with people in Ontario, in Toronto even.
00:11:43.140 Even in Quebec, people were sharing this and putting captions in it in French.
00:11:50.320 Because I think, you know,
00:11:53.200 every Canadian that has been here for a long time,
00:11:55.800 that has a family,
00:11:56.620 they have a very similar work ethic to Albertans.
00:12:03.420 They want to build,
00:12:05.460 they just don't have the oil in the ground, I suppose.
00:12:07.620 They would love,
00:12:08.420 a lot of people I see in the comments,
00:12:10.080 they say,
00:12:10.400 oh, I would move to Alberta in a heartbeat.
00:12:13.540 They're restricted for one reason or another.
00:12:16.240 But the spirit of Alberta that he's talking about here
00:12:19.800 is shared by a lot of Canadians.
00:12:21.200 And I think that that message resonated with them a lot because of that,
00:12:26.260 this message resonated a lot.
00:12:27.840 Anyways, we'll keep going here.
00:12:28.920 We have about four more minutes, I think.
00:12:31.040 And we're done with waiting for the rest of the country to catch up.
00:12:34.180 We don't need a national strategy.
00:12:36.140 We need Ottawa to get out of the way.
00:12:38.380 Mr. Speaker,
00:12:39.220 I ran to represent the people who built this country
00:12:41.540 and now watch it being dismantled by people who don't understand it.
00:12:45.880 And worse, don't even like it.
00:12:47.400 This week, the Prime Minister stood before this country
00:12:50.740 and promised more of the same.
00:12:52.760 A new housing bureaucracy.
00:12:54.860 A new set of buzzwords instead of a budget.
00:12:57.440 And more red tape instead of results.
00:12:59.500 And not a word,
00:13:00.740 not a single word about oil and gas pipelines
00:13:03.160 or the workers who drive our economy.
00:13:07.360 Let's be honest with Canadians.
00:13:09.720 We don't need to renew the consensus on immigration,
00:13:13.200 the one that's fueled the liberal political ambition for a decade.
00:13:15.680 We need to rebuild this country for Canadians.
00:13:19.140 We don't need to gaslight working families
00:13:21.240 into acceptance of out-of-control immigration
00:13:23.240 while wages stagnate,
00:13:24.980 house prices explode,
00:13:26.360 and services collapse.
00:13:27.840 We need to restore common sense
00:13:29.440 and put Canadians first in their own country.
00:13:32.300 We don't need more empty promises.
00:13:34.920 We need paychecks you can raise a family on,
00:13:37.200 homes you can actually afford,
00:13:38.860 and streets you feel safe walking down.
00:13:41.100 We need less gatekeeping,
00:13:42.900 less government,
00:13:43.760 and a whole lot more grit.
00:13:44.980 You can hear,
00:13:47.220 I think that's,
00:13:48.000 I can hear her voice.
00:13:50.200 I think that's Shannon Stubbs
00:13:51.360 shouting in the background.
00:13:52.260 Yeah!
00:13:52.940 She's one of the other great conservative MPs in Alberta.
00:13:56.500 Always fighting.
00:13:58.020 Like, she's got grit.
00:13:59.200 And one story about Shannon Stubbs,
00:14:00.480 actually,
00:14:01.360 it's kind of funny.
00:14:02.680 Once I was covering a caucus meeting in Alberta,
00:14:06.020 or sorry,
00:14:06.400 in Ottawa,
00:14:07.420 one of the first caucus meetings
00:14:08.440 after Pierre won the leadership,
00:14:11.440 I think.
00:14:12.520 And Shannon Stubbs was holding a press conference
00:14:14.960 outside of that caucus meeting.
00:14:16.460 And I had asked a question,
00:14:17.780 I forget what it was.
00:14:18.600 And I was about halfway through my question
00:14:20.160 when a CBC reporter
00:14:21.280 steps in front of me,
00:14:22.480 pushes me out of the way,
00:14:23.200 and starts talking over me.
00:14:25.340 And just like,
00:14:26.340 intentionally,
00:14:26.860 because he hates the independent media,
00:14:28.560 everyone at the CBC does.
00:14:30.460 And Shannon was like,
00:14:32.540 not having any of it.
00:14:34.520 Shut him down completely
00:14:35.380 and rejigged the entire press conference
00:14:37.880 to say,
00:14:38.260 no,
00:14:38.380 we're going to take this question
00:14:39.480 from this independent journalist
00:14:40.560 because that's,
00:14:41.600 you know,
00:14:42.000 not only fair,
00:14:43.000 it's just a polite way
00:14:43.900 to conduct a press conference.
00:14:45.840 And she stopped the entire,
00:14:47.120 she shut the entire thing down
00:14:48.280 to take my question.
00:14:49.240 I never thanked her for that,
00:14:50.460 but that's,
00:14:52.000 that's,
00:14:52.600 that's something that shocked,
00:14:54.820 I think,
00:14:55.020 the mainstream media at that moment.
00:14:56.720 And it was,
00:14:57.600 I mean,
00:14:57.880 it was before Pierre really started,
00:15:00.620 you know,
00:15:01.200 it was before the Pierre Apple moment
00:15:02.620 and a bunch of other things
00:15:04.580 that have changed in this country since
00:15:06.420 where the Conservative Party,
00:15:08.460 and I'm happy about this,
00:15:10.780 generally speaking,
00:15:12.180 that the Conservative Party
00:15:13.360 is not
00:15:13.960 completely focused on
00:15:15.980 what the CBC thinks
00:15:17.720 about them anymore.
00:15:19.480 they much,
00:15:20.300 you know,
00:15:20.620 maybe it wasn't reflected
00:15:21.660 in the actual election
00:15:23.080 where they were,
00:15:23.920 I think,
00:15:25.240 missing the mark
00:15:26.000 on going
00:15:26.480 onto independent podcasts
00:15:28.240 in Canada and abroad.
00:15:29.700 But by and large,
00:15:31.560 you have to give it to them
00:15:32.520 that
00:15:32.720 they were not
00:15:34.320 driving the campaign
00:15:35.640 based off of
00:15:36.420 how,
00:15:38.720 what the CBC was saying
00:15:40.120 on any given morning,
00:15:41.260 what Rosemary Barton
00:15:41.980 was,
00:15:42.280 was barking at them.
00:15:43.360 So I appreciate that
00:15:44.960 and I appreciate that
00:15:45.620 about Shannon Stubbs.
00:15:46.780 But anyways,
00:15:47.680 I think that was her,
00:15:49.320 long story short,
00:15:50.220 shouting in the background,
00:15:51.540 cheering them on.
00:15:52.160 So let's keep going.
00:15:52.880 Mr. Speaker,
00:15:53.860 I come from the part of Canada
00:15:55.020 that feeds this country
00:15:56.060 and fuels its economy.
00:15:57.360 So you'll understand
00:15:58.300 if I speak plainly.
00:15:59.820 Because where I come from,
00:16:01.000 words matter.
00:16:03.000 But work and deeds matter more.
00:16:05.000 I'm here to fight
00:16:07.240 for the honest worker,
00:16:08.360 the family farmer,
00:16:09.360 the rig hand,
00:16:09.940 the rancher,
00:16:10.500 the welder,
00:16:10.960 the widow,
00:16:11.720 the help worshiper,
00:16:13.180 and every kid
00:16:13.940 who still believes
00:16:14.640 this country
00:16:15.100 can be worth something.
00:16:17.360 I come to this house
00:16:18.540 with one of the strongest
00:16:19.440 mandates in the nation.
00:16:21.000 And Mr. Speaker,
00:16:22.100 do you know
00:16:22.500 how I earned it?
00:16:24.220 I promise to rip
00:16:25.420 this place down
00:16:26.080 to the studs
00:16:26.680 and start rebuilding
00:16:28.180 a country
00:16:29.280 we can recognize again.
00:16:31.300 The Prime Minister
00:16:32.160 this week showed
00:16:32.860 he's here to do the opposite.
00:16:34.680 Behind the pageantry
00:16:35.580 and parades,
00:16:36.200 he disrespected the Crown
00:16:37.260 by using the King
00:16:38.440 to deliver a tired
00:16:39.340 and empty speech
00:16:40.180 meant to distract Canadians
00:16:41.560 from a simple truth.
00:16:43.500 He's still stumbling forward
00:16:44.720 on the heels
00:16:45.260 of Justin Trudeau's
00:16:46.120 failed record.
00:16:47.820 Mr. Speaker,
00:16:48.540 I have deep respect
00:16:49.300 for our institutions.
00:16:50.660 But what Canadians
00:16:51.540 needed this week
00:16:52.320 wasn't ceremonial flourishes.
00:16:54.040 They needed substance.
00:16:56.000 Not sentiment,
00:16:57.000 but solutions.
00:16:58.440 Not more speeches
00:16:59.360 from elites and suits,
00:17:00.580 but action for people
00:17:01.600 and coveralls.
00:17:02.860 The farmers,
00:17:04.460 the builders,
00:17:05.360 the rig hands,
00:17:06.500 the parents wondering
00:17:07.300 how they afford groceries
00:17:08.380 and heat at the same time.
00:17:11.120 Canadians are tired
00:17:12.080 of being lectured.
00:17:13.440 They're tired
00:17:13.820 of being told
00:17:14.360 everything is fine
00:17:15.280 when they can see
00:17:16.280 with their eyes
00:17:17.040 that it's not.
00:17:18.320 That's positive there.
00:17:19.700 That's another thing.
00:17:22.080 People can see
00:17:23.400 with their own eyes
00:17:25.660 that things are not going well.
00:17:28.440 They can see
00:17:29.340 that grocery prices,
00:17:30.520 despite inflation
00:17:31.280 being under control.
00:17:32.440 Grocery prices
00:17:33.400 are sky high,
00:17:35.240 higher than they've ever been.
00:17:36.940 They can see
00:17:37.620 that the Prime Minister
00:17:38.320 is lying to them
00:17:39.620 constantly
00:17:40.400 about the state
00:17:41.600 of international trade negotiations.
00:17:45.520 Things are getting
00:17:46.320 more difficult
00:17:46.980 for the average Canadian.
00:17:48.560 Not just since
00:17:50.060 the Liberals took power
00:17:50.820 in 2015,
00:17:51.720 but since this election.
00:17:53.080 Since Mark Carney
00:17:56.320 took the reins,
00:17:57.420 things have continued
00:17:58.380 to degrade
00:17:59.660 and diminish
00:18:01.280 for the average Canadian.
00:18:03.440 So when David
00:18:04.600 goes out there
00:18:05.280 and says the obvious,
00:18:07.180 you know,
00:18:09.620 maybe it's not so obvious
00:18:12.380 to these politicians,
00:18:13.200 but as someone
00:18:15.160 like him
00:18:16.020 who just,
00:18:17.520 you know,
00:18:17.920 just this weekend
00:18:18.700 was on his farm
00:18:19.700 getting ready
00:18:23.420 for a new season,
00:18:25.780 it's obvious to him.
00:18:29.320 To the people
00:18:30.220 who live in Ottawa
00:18:31.260 full-time,
00:18:32.580 who hardly step foot
00:18:34.280 out of the Ottawa bubble
00:18:35.260 or have been there
00:18:36.640 for decades
00:18:37.380 and decades
00:18:37.820 and decades,
00:18:39.360 stating the obvious
00:18:40.180 is kind of difficult
00:18:41.080 because the obvious
00:18:42.040 is pretty foreign to you.
00:18:44.700 I think about
00:18:45.740 my friend
00:18:46.280 who mentioned to me
00:18:47.820 that he saw
00:18:48.620 Jagmeet Singh
00:18:49.920 shopping at
00:18:51.720 Whole Foods
00:18:52.720 in Ottawa frequently.
00:18:54.160 Like that,
00:18:54.440 he shops at like
00:18:55.420 the most expensive
00:18:56.440 grocery store
00:18:57.740 you could possibly find
00:18:59.200 in Ottawa.
00:19:01.280 He's not shopping
00:19:02.280 at Walmart
00:19:03.100 or even Savon Foods
00:19:05.780 or, you know,
00:19:07.560 wholesale,
00:19:08.880 whatever,
00:19:09.400 superstore.
00:19:10.480 No,
00:19:10.700 the price of groceries
00:19:12.000 don't matter
00:19:12.840 to people like that,
00:19:13.960 to people like Mark Carney.
00:19:14.840 Mark Carney,
00:19:15.280 the one notorious
00:19:16.440 for having said,
00:19:17.720 or infamous
00:19:18.280 for having said
00:19:19.500 that he doesn't even
00:19:21.180 shop for himself anymore.
00:19:23.720 These people
00:19:24.400 are completely
00:19:25.280 out of touch.
00:19:26.480 So,
00:19:27.120 it's refreshing
00:19:27.860 and again,
00:19:29.200 I think the reason
00:19:30.060 why this went viral
00:19:30.980 is because David there
00:19:32.560 was speaking
00:19:33.280 the obvious,
00:19:34.580 but it was stuff
00:19:36.100 that the average politician,
00:19:37.820 was not obvious,
00:19:38.580 I don't think,
00:19:39.080 to the average politician
00:19:39.940 exactly how bad
00:19:41.060 the situation is
00:19:41.780 in this country.
00:19:42.680 Keep going.
00:19:43.340 This country
00:19:43.760 has a proud
00:19:44.300 and noble history.
00:19:45.640 It was built
00:19:46.160 by pioneers,
00:19:47.540 sustained by families,
00:19:48.680 and defended
00:19:49.060 by those willing
00:19:49.740 to risk everything
00:19:50.600 for the promise
00:19:51.260 of freedom
00:19:51.780 and prosperity.
00:19:53.760 But after a decade
00:19:54.840 of mismanagement
00:19:55.580 and division
00:19:56.140 from the liberal
00:19:56.720 front bench,
00:19:57.740 that promise
00:19:58.360 is fading.
00:20:00.220 Alberta separatism
00:20:01.120 is no longer
00:20:01.760 a fringe idea.
00:20:03.020 I heard it at the doors
00:20:03.980 more times
00:20:04.600 than I can count.
00:20:05.300 And I'll tell you plainly,
00:20:07.480 Alberta staying
00:20:08.140 in confederation
00:20:08.980 is not up to me,
00:20:10.480 and it's not up
00:20:11.140 to the liberal government.
00:20:12.400 It's up to the people
00:20:13.160 of Alberta.
00:20:14.220 And the Albertans
00:20:14.880 know that they have options.
00:20:16.780 If this house
00:20:17.480 continues to insult,
00:20:18.720 abuse,
00:20:19.080 and neglect Alberta,
00:20:20.080 if it refuses
00:20:20.740 to treat our people
00:20:21.680 and our industries
00:20:22.300 with the respect
00:20:23.340 that they've earned,
00:20:24.340 then the future
00:20:25.000 of this country
00:20:25.580 is not guaranteed.
00:20:28.280 None of this job
00:20:30.620 here tomorrow,
00:20:32.140 at any moment,
00:20:33.220 this government
00:20:33.640 could lose
00:20:34.060 the confidence
00:20:34.540 of the house.
00:20:36.440 And when that moment
00:20:37.500 comes,
00:20:38.200 Canadians will remember
00:20:39.080 who stayed with them
00:20:40.100 and who stood
00:20:40.900 in their way.
00:20:41.960 Because when the system
00:20:42.820 stalls,
00:20:43.820 the Bow River
00:20:44.260 keeps flowing.
00:20:45.660 When this government
00:20:46.420 offers platitudes
00:20:47.300 instead of a plan,
00:20:48.640 the bow keeps flowing.
00:20:50.460 When they forget
00:20:51.420 who built this country,
00:20:52.720 we remember
00:20:53.360 and we keep moving.
00:20:55.620 Mr. Speaker,
00:20:56.460 I want to thank
00:20:56.940 the people of Bow River
00:20:57.800 for one of the strongest
00:20:58.680 mandates in this nation.
00:21:01.280 To my family
00:21:02.000 and my friends,
00:21:03.020 my neighbours,
00:21:03.520 thank you for trusting
00:21:05.020 me with this duty.
00:21:06.180 I won't let you down.
00:21:08.180 I didn't come here
00:21:08.900 to rub shoulders
00:21:09.520 with royalty.
00:21:10.440 I came here
00:21:10.940 to fight for the families,
00:21:12.120 farmers,
00:21:12.540 and energy workers
00:21:13.200 who built this country.
00:21:14.660 And I'll keep fighting
00:21:15.820 until the Liberal government
00:21:16.780 gets the message.
00:21:18.200 Because that promise
00:21:19.180 still lives
00:21:19.800 and I intend to keep it.
00:21:21.120 Thank you, Mr.
00:21:22.460 Thank you.
00:21:26.580 Really,
00:21:27.460 really powerful stuff.
00:21:30.540 And I'm excited
00:21:32.460 to see what he
00:21:33.260 continues to do.
00:21:34.540 I'm going to do my best
00:21:35.780 to be completely transparent
00:21:38.400 with how I cover David
00:21:41.420 as well.
00:21:41.860 I think that's important
00:21:42.620 to my viewers.
00:21:44.700 I owe it to you,
00:21:45.380 I think,
00:21:45.800 to explain
00:21:46.520 my relationship
00:21:48.460 with him
00:21:48.920 and why,
00:21:50.340 you know,
00:21:50.760 I said earlier,
00:21:52.620 I would have covered
00:21:53.180 this speech here today
00:21:54.520 if it was delivered
00:21:55.400 by anyone
00:21:56.060 in that way.
00:21:57.140 If Mark Carney
00:21:57.840 himself
00:21:58.400 gave a speech
00:21:59.360 like that,
00:22:00.040 I think I would have
00:22:01.120 given him pretty high marks
00:22:02.220 and I would have
00:22:03.040 shared it with you.
00:22:04.040 But as we go forward,
00:22:05.700 this is obviously
00:22:06.380 new territory for me,
00:22:08.160 for my audience.
00:22:09.620 He's my dad,
00:22:10.560 but frankly,
00:22:11.760 we disagree about
00:22:12.580 a lot of stuff.
00:22:14.220 We have my whole life.
00:22:15.560 He'll be the first person
00:22:16.380 to tell you that
00:22:17.040 around the dinner table
00:22:18.840 when I was younger,
00:22:19.500 we got into
00:22:20.560 plenty of disagreements.
00:22:23.320 Now,
00:22:24.060 obviously,
00:22:25.120 we're in
00:22:25.560 different roles.
00:22:26.900 I'm in the media
00:22:28.020 and he is
00:22:29.800 in Ottawa
00:22:30.580 doing his thing.
00:22:33.160 And of course,
00:22:33.740 I'm proud of him,
00:22:34.780 but nobody,
00:22:35.820 I guess I should say,
00:22:37.100 has higher expectations
00:22:38.300 of him
00:22:38.840 than me.
00:22:40.480 And if he
00:22:41.720 was to
00:22:43.100 get abducted
00:22:45.740 by the Ottawa bubble,
00:22:47.020 I'd be the first
00:22:47.880 to call him out.
00:22:50.340 That
00:22:50.360 Albertans deserve,
00:22:53.400 whether it's him
00:22:54.060 or anyone else,
00:22:56.080 Albertans deserve
00:22:56.980 strong representation
00:22:58.320 that puts
00:22:59.380 Albertans first
00:23:00.280 and
00:23:01.920 makes sure that
00:23:03.620 when
00:23:03.960 there are
00:23:04.720 national negotiations
00:23:05.860 about the future
00:23:06.520 of this country,
00:23:07.580 that the people
00:23:08.420 who drive this country,
00:23:09.780 who feed this country,
00:23:10.780 who fuel this country
00:23:11.780 are not forgotten.
00:23:13.760 That is
00:23:14.360 what I'm interested in
00:23:15.480 and I know that's
00:23:16.060 what my audience
00:23:16.620 cares about,
00:23:17.620 whether they're in
00:23:18.300 Alberta or not.
00:23:19.400 They want to see
00:23:20.220 a freer,
00:23:21.060 more prosperous
00:23:22.540 Canada.
00:23:23.260 That's what I want
00:23:23.780 to see.
00:23:24.740 And I'm going to hold,
00:23:26.280 whether it's David
00:23:27.080 or any of my other
00:23:28.860 friends
00:23:29.240 in Parliament,
00:23:31.100 I'm going to hold
00:23:31.900 them to account.
00:23:33.200 You have my word
00:23:33.820 on that.
00:23:34.700 That will never
00:23:35.340 change.
00:23:37.460 And yeah,
00:23:38.940 I'm excited
00:23:39.840 to see what
00:23:40.580 happens here.
00:23:41.640 I'm excited
00:23:41.940 to see more
00:23:42.460 speeches like this
00:23:43.360 from both
00:23:44.340 David and others.
00:23:45.980 You can see
00:23:46.780 some maiden
00:23:47.160 speeches
00:23:47.440 from other folks
00:23:49.540 and many of them
00:23:50.360 were really good.
00:23:51.040 Andrew Lawton's
00:23:51.780 speech,
00:23:52.500 who my audience
00:23:53.240 probably knows
00:23:53.680 quite well,
00:23:54.460 was fantastic.
00:23:56.760 Aaron Gunn
00:23:57.480 is coming up too.
00:23:59.160 I don't know
00:23:59.860 if he delivered
00:24:00.340 his maiden speech
00:24:00.960 yet or not,
00:24:02.220 but we can expect
00:24:03.760 some pretty good
00:24:05.000 things from
00:24:05.920 an opposition
00:24:07.300 that is stronger
00:24:09.720 than ever
00:24:10.160 in terms of
00:24:11.880 this liberal regime.
00:24:13.380 There's more
00:24:14.380 people punching
00:24:15.200 back now
00:24:15.980 than there have
00:24:16.580 been for a long
00:24:17.320 time.
00:24:18.420 And we've got
00:24:19.580 to remember
00:24:19.960 that this
00:24:21.300 parliament,
00:24:22.240 while it's not
00:24:22.680 hanging by a
00:24:23.580 thread,
00:24:24.500 it is on the
00:24:25.420 edge of a cliff.
00:24:26.800 They do not
00:24:27.400 have a majority.
00:24:28.900 They have
00:24:29.280 they have
00:24:30.820 a minority
00:24:31.400 plus Elizabeth May
00:24:32.440 and whether
00:24:34.860 this government
00:24:35.320 lasts one year,
00:24:36.720 two years,
00:24:37.200 three years ago
00:24:37.720 is the full term.
00:24:39.460 At least I have
00:24:40.800 hope that
00:24:42.760 with the NDP
00:24:44.420 not having
00:24:45.380 party status,
00:24:47.020 with the conservatives
00:24:47.960 taking up more
00:24:48.680 space on committees,
00:24:50.760 this government
00:24:52.760 hopefully will be
00:24:54.120 slightly more
00:24:55.960 to the right
00:24:56.620 than what
00:24:57.360 Justin Trudeau's
00:24:58.000 government was
00:24:58.640 just because he
00:24:59.280 was being dragged
00:24:59.860 along by the
00:25:01.200 hair by Jagmeet
00:25:02.160 Singh.
00:25:04.480 I expect good
00:25:05.620 things from
00:25:06.460 this opposition
00:25:07.420 and I hope
00:25:08.600 that they have
00:25:09.300 what it takes
00:25:10.200 to put Mark
00:25:11.680 Carney in his
00:25:12.160 place and
00:25:13.100 force his hand
00:25:14.140 to deliver for
00:25:15.240 Canadians and
00:25:16.720 the counter
00:25:17.340 signal and
00:25:18.000 Juno News
00:25:18.560 will be here
00:25:19.540 the entire
00:25:19.980 time covering
00:25:21.460 it, sharing
00:25:22.480 with you through
00:25:23.480 new formats like
00:25:24.180 this and others
00:25:25.240 exactly what's
00:25:26.600 going on in this
00:25:27.100 country because we
00:25:27.820 know that the
00:25:28.940 mainstream media
00:25:29.540 will not do
00:25:30.320 it, evidenced
00:25:31.880 by the very
00:25:32.520 fact, actually
00:25:33.800 I should note
00:25:34.640 that this speech
00:25:35.880 has not been
00:25:36.540 published by the
00:25:37.260 mainstream media
00:25:37.840 anywhere.
00:25:38.840 You have to go
00:25:39.740 to X,
00:25:40.620 Instagram,
00:25:42.180 Rebel News,
00:25:42.980 Juno News,
00:25:44.020 the Western
00:25:44.340 Standard, these
00:25:45.320 independent outlets
00:25:46.100 to see this
00:25:46.860 speech, the most
00:25:48.120 powerful speech
00:25:48.800 since King
00:25:49.660 Charles' own.
00:25:50.420 you wouldn't
00:25:52.460 even know that
00:25:53.000 it happened if
00:25:54.200 you weren't
00:25:54.480 subscribed to
00:25:55.040 Juno News,
00:25:55.500 which I
00:25:56.060 encourage everyone
00:25:56.920 to go do.
00:25:58.280 If you
00:25:58.720 haven't, tell
00:25:59.280 your friends
00:25:59.760 to go do
00:26:00.340 it.
00:26:00.800 You're going
00:26:01.080 to get all
00:26:01.400 kinds of
00:26:02.080 insider
00:26:03.120 information from
00:26:04.380 shows like
00:26:04.860 this, information
00:26:06.020 that you're not
00:26:06.380 going to find on
00:26:06.820 the mainstream
00:26:07.120 media.
00:26:07.600 Rosemary Barton
00:26:08.160 is going to
00:26:08.680 share a speech
00:26:09.660 like that with
00:26:10.160 you because they
00:26:11.180 know exactly how
00:26:14.600 damaging it is to
00:26:15.620 their cause when
00:26:16.400 there's strong
00:26:17.100 conservative
00:26:17.680 politicians speaking
00:26:19.180 up and resonating
00:26:20.260 with Canadians.
00:26:21.800 They have an
00:26:22.700 ideology, they
00:26:23.320 have an agenda
00:26:23.880 and you are not
00:26:25.640 part of that
00:26:26.040 agenda.
00:26:27.040 You are not
00:26:27.440 part of their
00:26:27.880 interests.
00:26:28.700 Rosemary Barton
00:26:29.200 has her own
00:26:29.620 interests, so does
00:26:30.560 David Cochran and
00:26:31.720 everyone in the
00:26:32.680 Parliamentary Press
00:26:33.440 Gallery.
00:26:34.200 They're there to
00:26:34.660 protect their own
00:26:35.800 jobs, their own
00:26:36.900 egos, their own
00:26:38.160 values and they
00:26:39.360 don't share them
00:26:39.840 with you.
00:26:40.940 We do here at

00:26:51.240 become, if not
00:26:52.580 yet already, I
00:26:53.480 have to look at
00:26:53.820 the numbers, one
00:26:54.780 of, if not the
00:26:55.660 largest independent
00:26:56.700 news outlet in
00:26:57.400 this country.
00:26:58.500 We are here and
00:26:59.600 we exist to
00:27:00.580 replace the CBC.
00:27:02.120 That is our

00:27:03.920 grow and continue
00:27:04.740 to grow and
00:27:05.300 continue to punch
00:27:06.060 hard and punch up
00:27:07.140 as long as it
00:27:08.140 takes until
00:27:09.680 Canada has a
00:27:10.900 media, an
00:27:11.560 independent media
00:27:12.380 that they can
00:27:13.340 respect and rely
00:27:14.520 on.
