The very same politicians who have been warning us for years about the dangerous conservatives
00:00:05.740
importing American-style politics into Canada are now recruiting Canadians to volunteer in the
00:00:12.000
American federal election. Christy Clark, Kathleen Wynne, and Rachel Notley have endorsed Canadians
00:00:17.940
for Kamala, a new group seeking to recruit Canadians to act as volunteer canvassers in
00:00:24.060
Philadelphia. Setting aside the stunning hypocrisy of these three women, the Harris campaign would do
00:00:31.180
well to remember that all three of these former politicians left their premierships in disgrace.
00:00:38.340
Albertans are still feeling the squeeze of electricity prices caused by Notley's bid to
00:00:43.680
end coal-powered plants, with a threat of rolling brownouts now looming every winter. In Ontario,
00:00:51.160
I was in high school during the last years of the Wynne government and still remember the host of
00:00:56.080
businesses that went under due to skyrocketing hydro prices. Some posted signs saying, you win,
00:01:03.720
using the premier's last name as a play on words. And in BC, like in Ontario, the Liberals still
00:01:10.140
haven't recovered from the Clark and Wynne's failed governments. In both cases, the Liberal
00:01:15.500
parties there have been non-starters for nearly a decade. In other words, maybe Americans should
00:01:21.600
go ahead and welcome this support from failed lefties. After all, who am I to stand in the way
00:01:27.340
of a little self-sabotage? I'm Rachel Parker, and this is Rachel in the Republic.
00:01:32.140
Hey everyone, welcome back to Rachel in the Republic. We're going to take a look at a little
00:01:46.260
bit of a Canadian angle for the show today. This story was just too funny to pass up. I saw it posted
00:01:53.240
earlier this week that these three former premiers had endorsed the group. Canadians for Kamala and the
00:01:59.380
National Post covered it pretty extensively. So we're going to take a look at what they reported
00:02:04.220
because they have all the facts, all the evidence, and we're going to take a look at this hypocrisy
00:02:09.020
from these former left-wing politicians. So in this specific case, according to the National Post,
00:02:16.460
at least two of the former premiers have at least on one occasion denounced the perils of so-called
00:02:23.080
American-style politics. And of course, now they are the new face of a movement seeking to recruit
00:02:28.480
Canadians for Kamala Harris. The group has been endorsed by former BC Premier Christy Clark,
00:02:34.880
former Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne, and former Alberta Premier Rachel Notley. Now, if you guys
00:02:40.980
have been following my work for a while, you'd know that I now primarily live in Alberta. I do spend
00:02:45.860
a number of months of the year in Ontario as well, but I actually grew up in Ontario under the Wynne
00:02:51.300
government, and I can still remember. I grew up in the Niagara region in a small village called
00:02:56.100
Jordan. If any of you are familiar with it, please let me know in the comment section below.
00:03:00.080
That will just excite me because no one ever knows where I'm from. And I remember a lot of
00:03:04.380
businesses going under because of the skyrocketing hydro prices under Kathleen Wynne. And I mean,
00:03:09.460
she had a number of scandals. Some of you might remember those orange helicopters that were
00:03:13.220
a massive failure, so much expenses and kept seeming to have accidents. I remember actually writing
00:03:18.200
about that in high school. That was when I first started to get interested in politics
00:03:21.380
because the way that Kathleen Wynne governed was impacting my life at already a young age.
1.00
00:03:27.140
This is funny, but basically the convenience store down the street from me that sold candy
00:03:32.040
in Ontario, we call them Avondales. It went out of business. It went under because of how expensive
00:03:37.680
it was to continue operating the store. And that impacted a high schooler who liked being able to walk
00:03:43.840
to the store to get treats with her friends on the weekend. And so I remember, and I would drive to my
00:03:48.820
friend's house, we would go through through Vineland. And I remember seeing a lot of businesses
00:03:52.420
clothing and closing. And I specifically remember seeing some of them posting the sign saying
00:03:56.660
you win. And that impacted me at the young high school age. I think I was in grade 11, grade 12 when
00:04:02.100
this was going on. And I was actually writing about it in one of the classes that I was taking at the
00:04:06.400
time. And that's what really piqued my own personal interest in politics. That's what led to my
00:04:11.420
decision to go to Carleton University and study journalism with another double major in poli-sci
00:04:17.700
because I was like, I want to do political journalism. And here I am about a decade later
00:04:22.700
myself. So I remember that very specifically. So I just had to tell you guys that story because
00:04:27.100
it's just funny that it's come full circle. And of course, now you guys know I live in Alberta and
00:04:32.740
I also experienced this experience. They're the high cost of electricity prices. And it seems every year,
00:04:38.400
I mean, last year was a particularly mild winter and there was still the threat of potential rolling
00:04:44.440
brownouts because of the devastating Rachel Notley policies. And we're still experiencing the high
00:04:51.000
cost of electricity there. So it's sort of a double whammy. And I know that Alberta Premier
00:04:55.300
Daniel Smith has talked about the need to get more baseload. So essentially there would just be more
00:04:59.980
electricity provided to the province because more people are moving there and we just don't have
00:05:03.640
enough energy to provide for everyone. So it certainly is a big problem in the province as
00:05:08.360
well. So let's take a little bit of a closer look at what's going on with this story. Here's a
00:05:13.560
Canadians for Kamala social media post. It reads, quote, here, why we're coming together to rally
00:05:18.560
behind Vice President Kamala Harris and how you can take action as a volunteer. So, okay, now the
00:05:25.440
interesting bit of it, retired Canadian politicians are not typically known to pick sides in US presidential
00:05:30.740
contests. And in this case, it's even more striking because two of the premiers are on record as
00:05:36.400
denouncing the importation of US-style politics into Canada. In a 2011 interview, Clark denounced
00:05:43.300
the US money being used to fund anti-pipeline causes in Canada. At the time, she told the Black
00:05:49.120
press, quote, I don't think Canadians welcome American-style politics. And so whether it's
00:05:54.600
American politicians or American interest groups, I don't think anyone wants to welcome that in British
1.00
00:06:00.600
Columbia. In 2017, Wynne and her ministers publicly denounced her progressive conservative opponent,
00:06:06.780
Patrick Brown, for bringing so-called US-style politics into Ontario. She said at the time, quote,
00:06:12.160
let's just hope and pray that that's not the level of political debate that we're going to have here
00:06:17.060
in Ontario or in Canada. So obviously, just a bit of stunning hypocrisy. This was from the National
00:06:23.340
Post. I did some research myself to see if I could find Rachel Notley talking about American-style
00:06:29.860
politics because it seems like something she would say. However, I couldn't find anything. If you guys
00:06:33.980
have any examples, feel free to post them in the comment section below. But given that this was a
00:06:37.900
Tristan Hopper article from the National Post, you know, he's a really good journalist and I looked
00:06:43.480
at self. I don't think we missed anything. That being said, if you know about something that we've
00:06:47.440
missed, please send it to me somehow so I can get a look at it. Because the hypocrisy of the first two,
00:06:52.780
it is surprising in a way, but less so when you think about the way that liberals seem to turn
00:06:58.620
themselves into a pretzel to justify a lot of their ideological beliefs. Like, for example,
00:07:03.900
saying that women are treated unfairly, you know, a woman's bodily rights while not thinking about
00:07:08.560
the bodily rights of a baby. And then at the same time, not even being able or willing to define
00:07:12.400
what a woman is. So this is just another case, you know, here they have no problem supporting Kamala
0.99
00:07:18.160
Harris because leftist hates Trump so, so much. And yet when they were premiers, and they were
00:07:24.000
governing, they often use that attack line of, oh, the conservatives are importing American South
00:07:29.360
politics to attack their conservative colleagues across the way. Now, I know what some of you guys
00:07:33.940
are wondering, isn't this illegal? Wouldn't this constitute election interference? Actually, no,
00:07:39.300
it wouldn't. United States is wary of foreign interference in its elections. But in this specific
00:07:45.160
instance, it does not violate U.S. electoral law. And that's because foreign domain, while foreign
00:07:50.680
donations remain a strict no-no as per federal electoral commission guidelines, foreign nationals
00:07:57.100
can provide uncompensated volunteer services to a U.S. presidential campaign. So if you guys were
00:08:05.300
interested as well, you could go across the border and you could volunteer on the Trump campaign,
00:08:10.580
go canvassing from door to door. I was aware that this was already a policy because when I was
00:08:14.460
studying at Carleton University after the 2016 presidential election, I had a professor at the
00:08:20.160
time who had actually spent the summer volunteering for Hillary Clinton. I feel like conservatives don't
00:08:25.820
generally do this type of thing because they're busy working. Like, I don't know any conservatives who
00:08:29.460
would just take like a few weeks off to go door knocking for a campaign that wasn't even in the
0.98
00:08:34.660
country that they were. Like, most of the conservatives I know who do door knocking are like, they get paid for
00:08:39.600
in some capacity. Like, they're on staff for a campaign. So I just think it's funny. But, you know,
00:08:44.760
if you guys have some free time, this could be a good way to get some exercise. That being said, I don't
00:08:49.160
know how well you would be received at the doors from Americans. I think they'd be like, you talk
00:08:54.960
funny. Every American thinks that Canadians talk funny. Just FYI. Like, I feel like I barely have a
00:09:00.980
Canadian accent growing up so close to the American border, just 20 minutes. And I noticed that the
00:09:05.980
Canadian accent is so much more pronounced in rural parts of Ontario and especially in Alberta. So I
00:09:11.820
just never feel like I have them. But my American friends, they always laugh at me. They're always
00:09:15.740
saying I use funny words and say things funny. And I'm like, we talk the same, but apparently not. So
00:09:20.580
they will, they probably will pick up on the fact that you're not American. And I can't imagine that
00:09:25.220
they would be too eager to see you at the doors promoting a given candidate in their election. But I
00:09:30.220
could be wrong. I could be wrong. Maybe they'll be glad that you're participating in their
00:09:33.540
democratic process. I don't know why they would be if an American showed up at my door
1.00
00:09:37.920
and they told me to vote for Justin Trudeau in the next federal election. I would be like,
00:09:42.560
get out of here. You should not be involved in this process. I wasn't the only person to think
00:09:47.580
that. Of course, when this initial tweet, the Canadians for Kamala group was posted, I had to
00:09:51.400
take a look at the comments because you knew there was going to be some juicy stuff. And of course it
00:09:55.960
delivered. User Pat Soluski said, why are you getting involved in US politics? How would you feel if an
00:10:03.080
American came knocking on your door to push a Canadian candidate? So exactly what I just said,
00:10:07.800
I think it would be a bit surprising for anyone. And especially because Americans are not like
1.00
00:10:12.680
Canadians. Like we always talk about how our countries are so similar. Culturally, they're
00:10:16.160
actually quite different. And Americans are typically much more outspoken and forthright than
00:10:22.100
Canadians are. I've noticed this in my extensive time traveling in the States, but also doing
00:10:26.380
reporting in both countries. It's a lot easier to find Americans when I do things like streeters
0.86
00:10:32.200
who are willing to come and do interviews than it is here in Canada. And I feel like Americans
00:10:37.860
would be pretty quick to tell you off. I've had that experience on a couple of different occasions.
00:10:42.580
You know, Canadians sort of, we have that politeness. It can definitely be a fake politeness.
00:10:46.540
You know, they'll say no problem and they'll start talking about you under their breath the
00:10:51.020
minute you walk away or cuss you under their breath after they walk away. But you know, just to be
00:10:55.000
warned, if you're someone who's going to be joining this Canadians for Kamala campaign, if you're watching
00:10:59.660
the show, probably not you. Just expect that some Americans might give you an earful.
00:11:05.360
User Dro Ogue said, Canada is a failed state. I thought this comment was funny because it just
00:11:10.620
had a lot to do with what I was explaining in my earlier. These three women are pushing a candidate
1.00
00:11:15.260
while having very poor track records on their own. So I don't know why anyone would be too keen to hear
00:11:20.420
their advice. I always find the sort of like dark humor about Canada failing very comedic and I enjoy it.
00:11:26.860
I am trying to have less of like a black pill mentality because I don't think it's like a good
1.00
00:11:31.300
way to go through life. And I think Canada is probably still salvageable. I think we can still
00:11:36.740
save it. But I feel like among a lot of conservatives, especially in the online sphere where I spend a lot
00:11:41.600
of time, that's increasingly like a less and less common and popular view. And I see a lot of comments
00:11:46.540
under my show from you guys being like, I'm not voting in the next election. Like I don't like the
00:11:50.740
conservatives, yada yada. There's valid points to all those things. I will be voting in the next
00:11:55.740
election. Well, I don't think that conservatives federally or any provincial party are like the
00:12:00.860
saviors of the world. I do think their policies are better. They're better for people. They're better
00:12:05.220
for Canada. And I am hopeful that Pierre Polyev will form government next. And he will actually do
00:12:11.300
something about the immigration crisis that has changed the fabric of our nation, maybe permanently,
1.00
00:12:15.720
quite possibly, especially because a lot of you guys out there are not having kids.
00:12:19.440
So finally, user Jimmy Polkin said, I'm expecting Harris will say no thanks, especially with Catherine.
00:12:28.920
I got Doug Ford elected win on the list. So exactly what I was saying before. Not sure why Kamala Harris
00:12:34.080
would want their help considering the legacy that they've left behind. Okay, last week, we talked a
00:12:39.360
little bit about the assassination attempts on you on former President Donald Trump. And I wanted to just
00:12:46.820
give a little update to you guys because there was sort of a shock development in that case this
00:12:51.340
week. And because we've been covering the Secret Service so much on the show, I felt that you guys
00:12:56.400
would probably want to know about this update. So here it is. This is from the Daily Wire. The US
00:13:01.680
Justice Department released a letter on Monday written by the man accused of attempting to assassinate
00:13:06.980
former President Donald Trump at his golf club in Florida, in which the suspect allegedly admitted to
00:13:12.240
trying to kill Trump. This is what the letter says. Listen to this closely. The suspect's name is Ryan
00:13:17.900
Ruth. And he said, quote, this was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump, but I failed you. I tried my
00:13:24.960
best and gave it all the gumption I could muster. It is up to you now to finish the job. And I will offer
00:13:31.960
$150,000 to whomever can complete the job. Why would this letter be released? Why would the Justice
00:13:39.860
Department release this letter in which a man is essentially putting a bounty on Trump's head? I
00:13:45.600
think all of us need to be asking why the government, why the Justice Department seems so
00:13:52.360
intent on ruining their credibility at absolutely every turn. First of all, we have the initial
00:13:58.700
assassination of Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, in which we still don't have a lot of answers.
00:14:03.340
There's so many questions. Melania Trump actually released a video saying that there's still so many
00:14:08.580
questions that she has. And she was roasted. She was lambasted. People were very ruthless towards her
00:14:13.560
on the internet. Here is a loving wife who's concerned about her husband's safety and wants
0.89
00:14:17.320
answers. And people felt that it was appropriate to mock her for that, even though some things should
00:14:22.840
really be above partisanship. It increasingly seems that is the case less and less so. So in this
00:14:28.580
instance, they essentially released this bounty on Trump's head. And it's even more shocking given
00:14:33.540
that a lot of times when we have like a school shooting, especially in some of the recent cases,
00:14:37.640
there's been transgender school shootings, the government agencies responsible for releasing
00:14:43.300
this information will not reveal the manifestos of the killers. They will not release the ideology
00:14:50.440
behind this and the thinking that led to these murderers kill young children at schools,
00:14:56.660
but they will release essentially a bounty on Trump's head. So I'm going to leave that for you
00:15:01.440
guys to mull over. Let me know what you think about that in the comment section below. Finally,
00:15:05.660
I just wanted to wrap up today's show with a quick little comment on Matt Walsh's Am I Racist?
00:15:12.500
I watch it in theaters. You guys should check it out. I saw it in Cineplex. It actually is playing
00:15:17.460
in a bunch of Canadian theaters. Initially, I thought it was only going to be in American theaters.
00:15:21.100
I was like, I don't think I'm going to be able to go, but I was able to see it in Niagara Falls,
00:15:24.660
just about 20 minutes away from me. So I went to see it. It was very, very funny. It was sort of like
00:15:30.600
watching an extended version of The Office season one. I'm sure you guys remember, like I'm sure most
00:15:37.800
of you have seen The Office. You're watching it and you're like, this is so funny, but at the same
00:15:42.320
time, I'm so uncomfortable. And that temptation to like look away and to laugh and cringe at the same
00:15:48.400
time, that was sort of what it was like because there were so many moments in there. Like Matt
00:15:52.740
Walsh is extremely talented that he was able to do this film and to go into the rooms that he was in
00:15:58.060
and to keep up the charade for such a long time. I don't know that I would have been able to.
00:16:03.000
I don't think most people would have been able to. And just sort of his dry sense of humor and his
00:16:07.260
wit, like he always knows what to say and how to respond in a given moment that just has him coming
00:16:12.940
out looking like an actual comedian. I wish that I think he should do standup comedy. There's not very
00:16:18.400
much good standup comedy left. I feel like he could potentially be very good at it. Well, I guess
00:16:22.200
that's sort of what a show is. My husband and I regularly watch the show and like laugh out loud.
00:16:26.420
And that's what this movie was. It was sort of like a laugh out loud film.
00:16:30.020
So definitely go check it out in theaters if you can, because I think you will enjoy it. And it's
00:16:34.160
pretty rare that nowadays there's a movie in theaters that we as conservatives can actually
00:16:38.540
enjoy without having some like hidden left wing ideological message being pushed at us all the
00:16:43.440
time. That's not full of curse words. And that actually tends to promote our values. And that's
00:16:48.560
family friendly. The other really funny thing about it is that Niagara Falls is like a hotbed for
00:16:53.200
immigration right now, as I'm sure some of you guys know. And when I walked into the theaters had
00:16:57.400
been a long time since I'd been to that specific theaters in the falls, me and my friend that I
00:17:02.000
went with, we were the only white people. And I was like, wow, things have really changed here. Like
00:17:05.260
it didn't look like this back when I lived in the Niagara region about three years ago. I kid you not
00:17:11.020
like three minutes before the movie started, a whole bunch of white people showed up. And I was like,
00:17:16.920
every single person that just showed up is going to be watching. Am I racist with Matt Walsh? Like
00:17:21.660
these people are here to watch this movie. And I was right. Our theater was exclusively white people,
0.97
00:17:27.300
despite the fact that there was otherwise no white people at the theaters. So that just kind of cracked
00:17:32.360
me up. I'm not sure what's going on in Niagara Falls. Maybe it's time to do some investigative work
00:17:36.880
about the immigration crisis unfolding and how it's impacting Niagara Falls specifically. Maybe I
00:17:41.100
should send my colleague Harrison to go do that because he is probably the person in Canada who's doing
00:17:46.540
the best job covering the immigration crisis. I know you guys comment about his work a lot in my
00:17:50.800
videos and you all agree. Okay, everyone, that's all we have time for today on Rachel and the Republic.
00:17:56.300
I'll be back next week, Wednesday with more election coverage for you all. I hope that you
