00:00:00.000 it's been great to see different aspects of society slowly reopened drips and drabs one
00:00:11.040 workplace here one sector there one different sporting activity here and there every day there
00:00:16.760 seems to be a new announcement and that's great because previously a lot of premiers had led us
00:00:20.820 to believe that they would not be moving this quickly in Ontario Doug Ford had said oh we're
00:00:25.600 gonna wait two weeks until we have two weeks of consistently declining cases until we get to
00:00:30.540 phase one and so forth well that seems to be all thrown out the window and I can't fault him for
00:00:34.180 that because when the facts and the evidence change well you should change your approach as well and
00:00:39.160 right now we are at the point where you can only keep something closed you should only keep something
00:00:44.260 closed unless you have a very very good reason an abundance of caution is not enough because every
00:00:50.980 day that goes by every hour that goes by a new business closes a new job is permanently lost one
00:00:56.100 that can't be supported by the government programs of their mental health side effects increasing
00:01:01.180 secondary health care harms people getting heart attacks rising blood pressure all of that it's
00:01:06.280 increasing there's a lot of people in the medical community speaking out about that so every opportunity
00:01:11.920 you have to reopen something you should take it right now the onus should not be on regular Canadians
00:01:17.980 to humbly raise their hand and say oh excuse me sir can I please return to this activity or that
00:01:22.360 activity can my workplace come back no no the onus must be on the officials every day to justify
00:01:28.460 why they are still keeping the lockdowns in place and I say lockdowns I'm not saying enhanced hygiene
00:01:35.080 enhanced restrictions yes we're going to keep physical distancing in place yes we're going to do
00:01:39.040 further health hygiene protocols and so on but to just say no economic activity that's the thing
00:01:45.220 we've got to get away from and a lot of these decisions I don't even know if they're based on
00:01:49.920 the facts and the evidence and the science take the city of Toronto announcing just the other day
00:01:53.720 that summer camps for children they're not going to happen this summer they're going to try and come
00:01:57.800 up with some sort of alternate camp they'll see but they're basically canceling the camps for now
00:02:02.700 well why authoritative studies tell us first of all that children just are hardly getting this and
00:02:08.300 second of all that there's not a single case anywhere in the world of a child transmitting it to an adult
00:02:13.960 we also know that camp counselors are predominantly teenagers and students who don't really get this
00:02:18.320 thing uh much and don't get it severely so looks like we actually have a pretty good little ecosystem
00:02:23.680 there where these people should be able to continue with their summer camp activities what's the
00:02:27.740 justification is it just an abundance of caution well I'm sorry but that's not enough right now
00:02:33.040 because we've seen that the negatives from keeping things locked down might actually outweigh the
00:02:37.900 negatives that we're trying to prevent you will remember that the whole argument behind the
00:02:42.220 lockdowns was so that the cases do not get so severe that they overwhelm our hospitals or icus
00:02:47.040 that we don't have enough beds and ventilators and that we basically have to have people lying
00:02:50.780 out in the parking lot as has tragically happened in other countries well we're not there that's great
00:02:55.620 news but that's also a sign that what's the holdup we should be reopening right now cautiously yes
00:03:02.200 wisely yes but that's what the facts and the evidence and the science tell us I think one of the
00:03:07.120 reasons that we have actually seen the reopening happening sooner than public health officials
00:03:11.500 originally led us to believe was because people have been making their voices heard they've been
00:03:17.320 putting forward their logical arguments their hey I run this business I can do this responsibly give me
00:03:22.200 a shot well I think those people still need to be making their voices heard and if your sector your
00:03:26.900 business has not been reopened but you're confident that you can do it and follow all the guidelines
00:03:32.000 then keep making your voice heard because in a matter of weeks hopefully things will not be returning
00:03:37.960 to normal because we're going to have these measures in place but we're going to get to a point where
00:03:41.960 hopefully we are not losing many many more jobs every day and every week and many more businesses
00:03:47.180 closing because that has to be one of the top goals right now
00:03:50.560 folks so we'll be visiting with the further focus of the fact he's going to be recovering and
00:03:54.720 You
