00:00:00.000 It's looking like many of Canada's conservative politicians
00:00:09.880 are going to have to do some real soul-searching
00:00:12.360 once COVID-19 is fully in the rearview mirror.
00:00:15.100 Because what does it say that arguably the best response
00:00:19.080 to the pandemic across Canada
00:00:21.260 has been from the nation's only NDP government?
00:00:25.260 That's right, I'm talking about British Columbia
00:00:27.300 and BC NDP Premier John Horgan.
00:00:30.380 Now, I know I've heard from a number of people in British Columbia
00:00:33.040 who are upset with the response that their government has done
00:00:35.900 because they feel it's too restrictive
00:00:37.660 or they would have preferred this over that and so forth.
00:00:40.180 But when I've spoken to people who are looking at
00:00:42.580 sort of the whole perspective of a bunch of different provinces,
00:00:46.380 people who are in Ontario, where I am, people in Alberta,
00:00:49.380 they look at BC and they say,
00:00:51.080 wow, I'd really like to live there.
00:00:53.480 Now, I've heard from a lot of people, medical experts and others,
00:00:56.440 that BC is experiencing different things for different reasons,
00:01:00.020 which is why perhaps they haven't felt the need
00:01:02.620 to bring in as tight restrictions and lockdowns
00:01:05.140 as we've seen in Ontario and Alberta and Quebec and so forth.
00:01:08.740 Fair enough, there's a point to that.
00:01:10.620 But we've also just seen a whole different attitude
00:01:13.440 and approach from that NDP government.
00:01:16.280 John Horgan has said he doesn't particularly care
00:01:18.660 for vaccine passports, doesn't feel they're needed,
00:01:21.280 whereas Doug Ford, well, he hasn't said he's introducing
00:01:23.960 those things yet domestically within provincial borders.
00:01:27.120 But, you know, there's very little that Doug Ford will not do.
00:01:30.140 He seems okay with pretty much everything.
00:01:32.940 John Horgan also hardly ever closing BC schools.
00:01:36.840 Children, the smaller ages, elementary schools in BC,
00:01:39.640 they have not had to wear masks in the classroom.
00:01:42.380 Whereas Doug Ford, well, he just wouldn't reopen schools
00:01:45.380 even in June when schools were open.
00:01:47.760 And kids had to wear masks outdoors in the playground in Ontario.
00:01:53.220 Stark differences.
00:01:54.320 And I got on the phone and I called some people I knew in BC
00:01:56.820 because, you know, here I am in Ontario.
00:01:58.520 I can't fully weigh in on what's happening on the ground.
00:02:01.200 And I asked conservative-minded folks that I knew in British Columbia,
00:02:05.100 hey, am I right here?
00:02:06.440 Am I actually gauging this accurately,
00:02:08.400 that it seems like Canada's only NDP government
00:02:11.820 is managing things a bit more hands-off,
00:02:15.760 more of a balanced approach
00:02:17.560 than we're getting from a conservative premier
00:02:20.220 or nominally conservative premier like Doug Ford.
00:02:23.740 And generally what I heard from several committed conservatives was,
00:02:27.760 yeah, they would actually say it's fair to say
00:02:30.300 that John Horgan is taking a bit more of a hands-off approach
00:02:34.260 than Doug Ford is.
00:02:35.940 And this tells us many things,
00:02:38.000 but I think one of the main things is
00:02:39.540 conservatives really have to talk amongst themselves
00:02:42.080 on how did this come to be?
00:02:44.520 How is it that you can have someone like Doug Ford
00:02:46.800 who was actually kind of mocking Florida Governor Ron DeSantos
00:02:51.200 a few weeks ago at a press conference,
00:02:53.140 that's right, it happened, my jaw dropped,
00:02:55.480 when he kind of laughed at the response that they had.
00:02:58.740 He belittled it and said,
00:02:59.980 well, you know, they've had bad outcomes there.
00:03:01.880 You should not do a thing like in Florida
00:03:03.600 and why he was so glad that they had had the tight lockdowns
00:03:06.680 that they had had in Ontario.
00:03:08.180 What is going on?
00:03:10.160 And why is it that John Horgan has done things
00:03:13.100 on a number of fronts much better than Doug Ford?
00:03:16.300 Ask the question, talk it out,
00:03:18.420 let me know what you think about that matter.
00:03:20.700 And well, Doug Ford, maybe he can answer to us
00:03:23.600 why that's the case.
00:03:24.900 Because quite frankly, I think it should be embarrassing
00:03:27.500 to many conservative politicians in Canada
00:03:31.060 that this situation is unfolding the way it is.
00:03:38.180 Go.
00:03:39.020 Good morning.
00:03:39.640 Good morning.
00:03:40.100 Good morning.
00:03:41.180 Good morning.
00:03:41.860 Come.
00:03:42.160 Good morning.
00:03:42.320 Well, thank you.
00:03:44.300 Good morning.
00:03:45.300 Real morning.
00:03:46.340 Good morning.
00:03:47.560 Good morning.
00:03:47.980 It's the morning.
00:03:48.040 It's the morningHome.
00:03:48.960 Good morning.
00:03:49.380 The morning tradition
00:03:50.360 that I'd have hadknown it,
00:03:51.120 Anne,
00:03:52.400 and Ed,
