00:00:48.220sir? Good it was good it's a big week for us Andrew you know we've got Daniel Smith exploding heads at
00:00:53.960very first press conference not missing any any chance to uh to get it started and of course
00:00:59.220uh yesterday was the kickoff of the inquiry into the public emergency order so it's a big week and
00:01:05.360of course with that Andrew means an endless supply of fake news material for us to get into today.
00:01:12.400Yeah I think we may have to uh over the course of the seven weeks of the public order emergency
00:01:17.240commission detect a fair bit of disinformation and misinformation coming from some of the
00:01:22.060government witnesses there but we will we will reserve judgment until those moments actually come
00:01:27.560lots more uh outside of the commission this week to get into. Let's actually start off with
00:01:33.740Danielle Smith I know you talked about it on Ratio and I talked about it on the Andrew Lawton show
00:01:38.260but this was really a perfect storm of media freak out here because Danielle Smith comes out
00:01:44.280and if you missed the clip she said in no uncertain terms that vaccine discrimination
00:01:49.060is unacceptable take a look. The community that faced the most restrictions on their freedoms
00:01:55.060in the last year were those who made a choice not to be vaccinated. I don't think I've ever
00:02:00.640experienced a situation in my lifetime where a person was fired from their job or not allowed to watch
00:02:08.920their kids play hockey or not allowed to go visit a loved one in long-term care or hospital
00:02:14.080were not allowed to go get on a plane to either go across the country to see family or even travel
00:02:20.080across the border. So they have been the most discriminated against group that I've ever witnessed
00:02:25.600in my lifetime. That's a pretty extreme level of discrimination that we have seen. I don't take away
00:02:31.680any of the discrimination that I've seen in those other groups that you mentioned but this has been an
00:02:36.160extraordinary time in the last uh year in particular and I want people to know that I find that
00:02:42.880unacceptable that we are not going to create a segregated society on the basis of a of a medical
00:02:48.800choice. Again I've been like wondering when a single politician in Canada who holds elected office
00:02:54.880was going to be speaking like that and it is not only the premier of Alberta Danielle Smith but at her
00:03:00.560very first press conference like half an hour after she was sworn in she's saying yeah vaccine
00:03:06.320discrimination is wrong they're the most discriminated against group she's seen in her lifetime
00:03:11.680and it will not happen on her watch. Now the most discriminated against group in her lifetime that
00:03:18.240was the part that the media latched on to and I want to share interestingly enough a tweet from
00:03:24.160Brian Breguet who is too close to call on Twitter where he said it was actually quite brilliant because
00:03:30.800anyone who was condemning her remarks had to like accept the fundamental premise that yes the unvaccinated
00:03:37.520were victims of discrimination so she shifted the Overton window a bit there Brian pointed out and I
00:03:43.280thought quite aptly so but people didn't like it and just to to go over some of the responses here
00:03:49.920I'll take a couple and you can take a couple Sherry De Novo the former NDP member of provincial
00:03:55.760parliament in Ontario Reverend Sherry De Novo I should say says white straight supremacy and privilege
00:04:02.640you have a spokesperson oh yeah burn uh Evan Solomon who generally speaking I like he said why do some
00:04:10.480politicians never mention the 45,662 Canadians who died of COVID or their families as if they are not
00:04:18.000victims of the pandemic or the healthcare workers who worked overtime under brutal conditions and risked
00:04:23.280their own family's health I why do politicians not mention COVID deaths and healthcare workers for the last
00:04:33.120three years I think that's all politicians and media have been talking about and I don't think anyone
00:04:38.080including Danielle Smith is trying to diminish the losses of people who died of COVID I think the issue is
00:04:43.840that she's trying to point out that there have been other costs to this that no one has been speaking about this is not a zero sum game you can't just say well if we're talking to the
00:04:51.280one group it means we're not talking about others no she's just saying why is no one talking about
00:04:58.160discrimination against the unvaccinated exactly and not only is she not just saying that she's also
00:05:04.000saying in her in her statements very importantly Andrew that she's not taking away from discrimination
00:05:09.200of any other group faced in this country she's just saying that in her lifetime and again I think
00:05:15.360those comments are completely defend like you can defend those comments 100 there's an argument to be
00:05:20.240to be made there I made the point yesterday in my lifetime I have never seen the discrimination
00:05:25.040faced by unvaccinated people in this country it is insane it isn't unacceptable and so it really I
00:05:30.400think it exposes a lot of these people Andrew for taking such an issue with a statement that is what
00:05:36.320would seem to be totally reasonable and totally normal comments the fact that you take such an issue
00:05:41.680with a Canadian politician saying that the discrimination faced by the unvaccinated
00:05:46.320is unacceptable is exposing these people who they must I mean to take issue with that statement
00:05:52.240you must be on the side that says actually this is okay it is okay otherwise how could you really
00:05:57.200challenge that statement if you want to challenge that statement bring together some actual arguments
00:06:01.200bring together some legitimate counter arguments to this case if you're just taking issue with it
00:06:06.080it sounds like you're actually in favor of the segregation of the unvaccinated and I think it really
00:06:10.160exposed a lot of people and look there's there's some other incredible incredible things to get
00:06:15.200into here you have Charles Adler uh who I I've considered to be one of the uh fakest conservatives
00:06:21.120in this country he's a he's a commentator on twitter very active on twitter he wrote this
00:06:25.600has Daniel Smith ever met an indigenous person a black person a brown person a woman no Andrew I'm sure
00:06:32.320Daniel Smith has never met a woman in her life he goes on to say a brown woman in a hijab a woman
00:06:37.120without a hijab in Iran how do you live on this planet in this century and miss every freaking
00:06:41.760frame of every scene very odd take there from Charles Adler again this idea that you can't you
00:06:50.000can't defend the unvaccinated that's a big no-no it turns out in in in the Canadian political
00:06:55.200establishment Andrew I didn't really know that but after uh Tuesday's comments and the reaction to them
00:07:00.160I realized that actually that is the one group of people you can't publicly defend if you're a leader
00:07:04.880in office strange times we're living in yeah and I should say Danielle Smith put out a statement on
00:07:10.400Wednesday clarifying her comment she didn't retract she didn't apologize she said look obviously she's
00:07:16.000not trying to diminish discrimination that other groups have experienced and I pointed out on my show
00:07:21.920that it's it's difficult to get into the comparison game because in her lifetime gay marriage was illegal so
00:07:28.320that's significant discrimination against gay people in her lifetime there were residential schools
00:07:33.760so that's a form of discrimination that we saw in in some of those but the the point is is that we
00:07:39.040should be able to on its face say that the discriminate against discrimination against the
00:07:43.760unvaccinated is wrong and interestingly enough that the one that I found to be the most insidious of
00:07:49.440these uh tweets it was a tweet from a CTV reporter Brianna Karsten Smith who says Premier Danielle Smith has
00:07:56.240released a statement following her false claim that unvaccinated people have been the most discriminated
00:08:02.560against group in her lifetime this is not a commentator this is a reporter who's supposed
00:08:07.840to be dispassionate and objective and unbiased saying that this was a false claim to go back to you know
00:08:16.400first year university here certain things are normative which means they are inherently subjective
00:08:22.880you can argue for them you can argue against them the claim that the unvaccinated are the most discriminated
00:08:28.960against group in Danielle Smith's lifetime is an argument you may disagree with the argument you may
00:08:33.280agree with the argument but it is an argument so how can it be false and how can a reporter just say
00:08:38.880without offering any evidence that that is a false claim and this is the type of stuff that the media
00:08:44.560does with conservatives where they turn fact checking into this weapon and convince the world that
00:08:50.320they have the authority to determine what's true and what's false it's it's really really insidious you
00:08:56.320you you know this idea that you can just as a reporter say that this person is false or as
00:09:02.960another reporter from the globe and mail said that this statement would make sense if daniel smith was
00:09:07.440two toddlers stacked in a blazer it's it's it's minimizing the fact and the reality that just last
00:09:12.880year andrew unvaccinated canadians couldn't go see a dying parent in a long-term care center they
00:09:18.400couldn't get on an airplane a train or a boat to go to another not last year i mean two months ago two
00:09:23.120months one month ago in their own country so this idea that that that you know we can minimize the
00:09:29.520discrimination faced by this group and we have to amplify the discrimination that i'm sorry i think in
00:09:34.400in if we're looking in recent terms in the last few years there's nothing that can compare not even
00:09:38.960close it's incredible and this is another very important point a lot of these reactions completely
00:09:44.000unhinged reactions to this statement are talking about daniel smith pushing white supremacy this is some
00:09:50.320sort of a racial thing that she's you know she's now the spokesperson for white supremacists
00:09:56.800the reality is andrew we have indigenous canadians who in large numbers are unvaccinated black canadians
00:10:03.680are in large numbers and vaccinated it is so short-sighted and so uh it's it's so insane to me
00:10:10.400that we have reporters political establishment figures former politicians current politicians even
00:10:15.760making this point knowing full well actually that many canadians of many different backgrounds races
00:10:21.360ethnic ethnic ethnicities have a multitude of reasons to not be on to not be vaccinated and so
00:10:27.280we're just going to basically say no the the only politician that's speaking up for you the only
00:10:31.520politician that has since you know since becoming elected displayed a spine and actually spoken for
00:10:37.040those people actually no she's the mouthpiece for white supremacy no wonder andrew it took one it took
00:10:43.440until now for us to get a real politician to actually say these words not until truckers in
00:10:49.600ottawa with nothing to lose broke the ice went there and went and did that first then the floodgates
00:10:55.600opened then conservatives started to speak up for unvaccinated people and to this day we're now seeing
00:11:00.560people on the other side of the aisle now basically saying that anyone who does that is promoting white
00:11:05.760supremacy it's racist to say that what what what kind of country is this now it's insane
00:11:10.960yeah and the whole point of the supposed trend towards intersectionality is that we were supposed
00:11:17.680to look at the intersections of all these things so if there are systemic reasons that certain ethnic
00:11:22.720minorities are not getting vaccinated we need to be able to deal with that but instead we vilify them
00:11:27.440and anyone who stands up for the unvaccinated is a dirty white supremacist so uh these are the rules

00:12:37.280how good it'll be for the climate if putin nukes ukraine and there's just like no one omitting
00:12:42.880anything in that part of the world won't that be really great i honestly i can't believe these
00:12:47.680people they're saying the quiet part out loud no exactly we hear so much about you know we we always
00:12:53.200hear andrew about misinformation and disinformation and fighting back against conspiracies but why does
00:12:58.240it feel as though the un and some of these people just they just throw fuel onto the fire of
00:13:03.280conspiracies if you didn't want people to think that there's something something else going on or
00:13:06.960there's people trying to take advantage of this conflict then why would you say something like
00:13:10.720this and the idea that you could really write an article about this giving it basically credence
00:13:16.000making putting weight behind these statements is also hilarious i took issue with ctv for even
00:13:20.080writing the story it's just incredible to me and this idea again that it's a blessing for
00:13:24.720the climate andrew but in the five to ten year time scale we're going to speed up our consumption
00:13:28.960of fossil fuels it's great for the climate andrew but now we have germany and we have all these other
00:13:33.440countries panicking trying to get oil trying to get fossil fuels into their countries to heat
00:13:37.840themselves over the winter so my oh but the panic is part of the fun because the panic is going to be
00:13:42.720what makes them switch to like solar and dilithium crystals yeah only after you have to freeze

00:14:13.600provide them with oil remember justin trudeau when when germany came begging for canadian uh fossil
00:14:19.280fuels to help them get through the winter uh remember justin trudeau said there's no business
00:14:24.000case we made for it again didn't sound very wise because of course the germans would be paying for
00:14:28.880it all but no there's no business case we made for it and we understand why andrew because this conflict

00:15:02.560think there's totally a business case for it so it's just like trudeau's own ideological opposition to
00:15:07.360it but i i will point out here that what we're seeing from the un dude here is very much aligned
00:15:13.840with the great reset narrative we saw during the lockdown where you got all these people that were
00:15:18.000just like giddy about oh and everyone's locked in their homes think of how good it is for the climate
00:15:22.240because cars aren't on the road and and they don't understand that this thing that they are so
00:15:28.000invested in is coming because people's lives are being ruined and in this particular case it's literal war
00:15:35.120that they're saying is good for the climate no it's it's very very odd and i want to kind of pull
00:15:41.200some of these pull some of these quotes from the article because it's it's it's crazy so he basically
00:15:46.400says that the rising prices for carbon spewing fuels like oil gas and coal carbon spewing fuels
00:15:52.320that's a new one i haven't actually heard that before uh have also made higher price renewable
00:15:56.080energies like solar wind and hydrothermal more competitive in the energy marketplace so yeah you've
00:16:00.960got to again like i said you've got to go through the frozen winter you've got to basically freeze
00:16:06.080for everyone to get on the same page that actually we need to just ditch them all and go to the you
00:16:10.720know solar wind and hydrothermal energies again it's just it's just crazy this is how you fuel

00:16:52.080the world meteorological organization secretary general for halloween i think halloween is being
00:16:57.600canceled right now at least in toronto where there have been some reports from parents that tdsb
00:17:03.280schools toronto district school board schools have banned the use of the name halloween on well on on
00:17:11.040halloween uh so it's now no longer halloween it is something that uh they're calling i don't even know
00:17:18.480what they're calling in the past they've called it like black and orange day uh but i don't even know
00:17:22.720if that's permitted here so there are some of the rules uh costumes which appropriate another culture
00:17:27.760cannot be worn uh you can't wear masks at school ironically because after you know two years of
00:17:33.520forcing students to wear masks you now can't wear halloween masks and what else do we have here uh you
00:17:39.360can't have dance for halloween but you can have a movement session so you can do like mindful stretching

00:20:07.840company and and they've usually done this in the us it's very vermonte the the company ben and jerry are
00:20:14.000very political that's their right as individuals it's their right as a company but ben and jerry's
00:20:19.520canada is now going on this crusade to interfere or intervene in canadian school board elections because
00:20:28.960as you see in the graphic there the far right is stacking our school boards the far right is
00:20:35.120stacking our school boards and uh you have to like one cherry garcia pint at a time uh rectify this trend
00:20:43.920and i'm just i'm kind of like there's that old line sir this is a wendy's that is meant when someone just
00:20:51.200goes on this like political crusade but now i'm like you know sir you're an ice cream guy just like just
00:20:55.440make me my ice cream so we have we have so many parody accounts going around on twitter andrew that
00:21:00.560it's tough to really know when you see something so absurd you really do have to do your own research
00:21:05.680to figure out what you're actually looking at if it's real or not and the problem is i did i did
00:21:09.680some digging i was very i saw this and i really couldn't believe it i i thought this must be a
00:21:14.320parody account because the ben and jerry's canada twitter page is is not verified but if you go and look
00:21:20.160on the other page the other twitter pages there's a ben and jerry's mexico a ben and jerry's uk they're
00:21:25.040all verified but for some reason the canadian one isn't verified but sure enough it is real
00:21:30.160this is a legitimate story this is from their actual twitter account and they are they are
00:21:34.240meddling in the canadian local elections and again when i first saw this i thought this is
00:21:38.960probably like a gray zone area you know i don't even know if this is properly legal i guess it must
00:21:43.840be uh unless someone is gonna gonna call them out on it it is america it is an american company
00:21:48.240meddling in local canadian elections and it's so it's so incredible to me because they also partner
00:21:54.160with anti-hate canada anti-hate uh the the sort of the far left blog that kind of attacks the
00:22:01.440opponents of the establishment attacks trudeau's political opponents and writes hit pieces against
00:22:06.000them as we know anti-hate is government funded so when you see this ben and jerry's canada the ice
00:22:10.800cream makers they're partnering with anti-hate to basically tell you that the far right must be
00:22:16.320stopped at the local school board elections this is funny because andrew i'm pretty sure if you look
00:22:20.800at all these school boards they're pretty much occupied by people who are demanding we return
00:22:25.200to masks demanding that teachers get more time off pushing critical race theory and doing everything
00:22:31.040possible to try and make education as woke and as far away from learning and more so toward yeah i wish i
00:22:38.160wish there were a right-wing conspiracy to like take over the school boards i want that you know what yeah
00:22:42.800we could probably do with a couple of right-wing or some conservatives in our school board just to
00:22:47.040balance it out a little bit but again it's the idea that finally it looks as though the overarching
00:22:52.480point i think is this that actually conservatives are starting to pay attention to an area of of our
00:22:58.240political system which we've turned a blind eye to for many years and now we see the problems look at
00:23:03.200look at our current school boards look at what we're dealing with look at the school board the teacher
00:23:07.440in halton in the halton district school board for goodness sake that's our problem here so of course
00:23:12.400the the the first sign andrew of conservatives taking school board elections seriously outcome

00:23:23.920that we need to fight back against the far right i think this is probably a sign that conservatives

00:23:56.080graphic oh canada our home on stolen land so this is basically the ben and jerry's way just to get in
00:24:04.000there and start crapping all over the country uh but we always try to end things on a bit of a lighter
00:24:09.520note so the new flavor of uh preach cobbler i don't think is uh going down too well but let's talk
00:24:15.280about cbc's pivot here 1.4 billion dollars worth of taxpayer money every year they have to be nimble

00:24:48.640she writes on twitter very excited about her new gig she writes some work news today i start a new
00:24:53.200adventure as the tiktok producer for cbc news i can't wait to tell stories on the not so little
00:24:58.160social platform and join the fabulous social team at cbc so we're seeing andrew this new this rise of
00:25:04.480new journalism fresh out of the journalism schools what are we getting from them well we're getting
00:25:08.480these hard-hitting holding power to account journalists on tiktok great stuff i'm just so glad
00:25:14.480to see that the cbc is nimble they're fresh they're adapting to new platforms i'm sure now with
00:25:20.560the tiktok producer now the tiktok journalist light global news they are going to start finally
00:25:25.440holding the government to account i can't wait very excited so you didn't apply for the gig i take it
