Transcript

00:00:00.040 It's been more than three years since the 2015 federal election and Justin Trudeau still hasn't realized that Stephen Harper is not his opponent anymore.
00:00:09.440 You know, the Liberals sent out yet another fundraising email in which they draw a line between Andrew Scheer, the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, and Stephen Harper.
00:00:18.900 This is what they do all the time.
00:00:20.820 Justin Trudeau is speaking in a year-end interview with the Canadian press about how Andrew Scheer is just an extension of Stephen Harper.
00:00:27.580 He's mentioned it countless times in the last three and a half years, even when the Conservatives didn't have a leader.
00:00:33.580 He was calling it the Harper-era Conservatives in full force.
00:00:38.060 This is what the Liberals view as an insult, to compare the Conservative Party of Canada in its current iteration to Stephen Harper.
00:00:45.080 And let's face it, Stephen Harper was very decisively defeated in the 2015 election.
00:00:51.060 But there were a lot of factors that went into that.
00:00:53.420 Number one, Canadians in general get fatigued when they've had the same government and power for a long period of time.
00:00:59.900 History has been and will continue to be very kind to Stephen Harper.
00:01:04.040 And this is what Justin Trudeau doesn't realize.
00:01:06.460 Look at how many people have started to heed the warnings that Stephen Harper gave about dangerous foreign policy.
00:01:14.260 About immigration.
00:01:16.060 About national security issues.
00:01:18.600 About Justin Trudeau's refusal to balance the budget.
00:01:21.820 Stephen Harper made a number of predictions as Prime Minister and even as a candidate in the last election.
00:01:29.660 And pretty much all of them have come to pass.
00:01:32.420 So if Justin Trudeau wants to use the term Stephen Harper as a slur, I think it's going to backfire on him.
00:01:38.300 But it's interesting that he refuses to live in the present.
00:01:41.640 He's got a new Conservative Party with a new leader with, quite frankly, a renewed approach in dealing with the issues that matter to Canadians.
00:01:50.620 And Trudeau is stuck in the past.
00:01:53.180 And this is all the while he's saying that he wants to run a campaign that's focused not on smearing or slurring,
00:01:59.860 but a campaign that's focused on positive ideas.
00:02:02.520 Well, if you're focused on ideas, why are you not only name-calling,
00:02:06.000 but name-calling in a way that invokes someone who isn't even a candidate-seeking political office?
00:02:12.060 Let's just face it here.
00:02:13.320 Justin Trudeau doesn't have the ideas to run a campaign on ideas.
00:02:16.680 He doesn't have anything, really.
00:02:18.500 So all he's doing is going on the notes that were given to him three and a half years ago.
00:02:22.360 Well, I don't think they'll work this time around, Justin.
00:02:25.240 For the True North Initiative, I'm Andrew Lutton.
00:02:32.520 Thank you.
