00:00:00.000 Are they trying to control the climate or are they trying to control you?
00:00:14.540 That's one of the questions put forth by Climate Hustle 2, a movie coming out on Thursday
00:00:19.920 looking at the rise of the climate monarchy.
00:00:23.300 The host of the film is Hercules himself, actor, director, and certainly Hollywood renegade
00:00:28.760 Kevin Sorbo, who joins me on the line now.
00:00:31.600 Kevin, good to talk to you.
00:00:32.460 Thanks very much for coming on today.
00:00:34.460 Hollywood renegade, but not by choice.
00:00:36.440 Yeah, it's good to be here.
00:00:37.800 Thanks for having me on.
00:00:38.980 So this must be for you.
00:00:40.700 If there was ever a chance of you getting back in the good graces of a lot of your former
00:00:44.880 colleagues in Hollywood, that's gone with this movie, right?
00:00:47.940 Yeah.
00:00:48.480 I mean, these guys called me up.
00:00:50.120 I ended up being on camera with it and I narrated it, but I was brought on after all of it was
00:00:55.340 put together.
00:00:56.440 And I certainly knew about Climate Hustle 1.
00:00:58.020 So they approached me.
00:00:59.420 I said, yeah, you just want to endear me more to Hollywood, don't you?
00:01:03.200 But I'm a guy that I always look at both sides of the story and I don't understand why we're
00:01:08.140 so one-sided with the whole thing with the climate change, global warming thing.
00:01:12.380 I learned a lot by watching this thing because I watched it before I narrated it.
00:01:16.720 And it didn't shock me.
00:01:19.240 I've heard enough arguments from the other side as well.
00:01:21.960 But, you know, the mainstream media in America, you know, they plug just the one thing all
00:01:27.000 the time and there's no room.
00:01:28.700 They scream for tolerance, but they have none.
00:01:30.500 It's a one-way street, you know.
00:01:32.080 Yeah.
00:01:32.240 And I'm glad you brought that up because one of the great things from a narrative perspective,
00:01:36.480 and if you're going to explore this subject in a film about the global warming divide,
00:01:40.760 is that it isn't just a scientific discussion anymore.
00:01:44.400 I'd say arguably we'd all be better off if it were.
00:01:46.960 But now it's become something about financial corruption, about media bias, about Hollywood
00:01:51.860 hypocrisy, about all of these other things.
00:01:54.160 And I understand that all of those are to some extent explored in Climate Hustle, too.
00:01:59.520 They are.
00:02:00.060 They did a great job with it.
00:02:01.160 You know, you get a lot of guys that are very knowledgeable, a lot more smarter than I am,
00:02:05.240 and scientists.
00:02:06.740 Here's the thing.
00:02:07.420 I've known this ever since I've been talking about it.
00:02:09.100 I mean, global warming, I've heard about this even in the 90s.
00:02:11.240 They were saying by the year 2000, the coastlines of, you know, Florida and California would be
00:02:16.120 gone.
00:02:17.220 Well, here we are 20 years later.
00:02:18.760 It's, you know, it ain't going to happen.
00:02:20.760 But I just, I look at this and I said, why don't we just take a look at the other side
00:02:26.960 just for one time, guys?
00:02:28.120 When you talk about the ice caps, the ice caps are doing great.
00:02:30.960 The polar bears are doing fine.
00:02:32.040 But it comes down to issue now where it's like the abortion issue.
00:02:35.240 It doesn't really necessarily have to do with anything other than anger and hate now.
00:02:39.160 And it's just so divisive.
00:02:41.080 And I know you guys have seen America in our cities down here right now with these Antifa
00:02:46.000 thugs running around destroying public property, private property, hurting people, killing
00:02:50.120 people.
00:02:50.540 I mean, it's just gotten absolutely crazy down here.
00:02:54.200 Yeah, it has.
00:02:55.120 And, you know, this issue is one that, and I'm glad you mentioned earlier on about having
00:02:59.540 a debate and hearing both sides, because this issue is one where people don't even want
00:03:03.620 to engage in a dialogue about it.
00:03:06.040 I know there have been a number of issues where films that have tackled the subject to some
00:03:10.520 extent before can't even find a theater that will let them play, even with a private booking,
00:03:15.200 because people are so terrified of having a debate.
00:03:18.180 So how do you break through that?
00:03:19.460 And how do you say, hey, listen, we're all about free speech here.
00:03:22.020 We want to have the discussion.
00:03:23.420 And then at the end of it, make up your mind at what you think.
00:03:26.680 Well, I think you just said it.
00:03:28.340 I mean, why can't what you worded it was perfectly because that's what we need to do.
00:03:31.880 But unless you do a movie that deals with the end of the world and how bad conservatives
00:03:36.800 are and how bad anybody has an opposing view to climate change is, how do you get past
00:03:42.380 that?
00:03:42.520 I have no idea because Climate Hustle, the first one, has already been taken off Amazon.
00:03:47.460 That would stay there for a long time.
00:03:48.620 But now that's even been taken away.
00:03:51.100 I get I'm totally shadow banned on Facebook and Twitter.
00:03:55.660 I'm not getting near the following I had before.
00:03:58.000 I mean, it shows how many people I have, but it's not out there anymore because and they've
00:04:01.060 told me they've banned me a number of times when I post things like, hey, what do you think
00:04:05.740 about this article I found?
00:04:07.220 And then it's just an article saying, well, here's some interesting stories to look at and
00:04:11.420 interesting facts, so-called, from the other side.
00:04:14.800 And I get I get I get blocked.
00:04:17.020 I mean, it's it's weird what's going on right now, but it's pretty blatant.
00:04:20.240 And the hypocrisy, as I'm trying to say, hypocrisy is pretty blatant.
00:04:24.940 Oh, yeah.
00:04:25.120 We've seen this time and time again.
00:04:26.560 Leo DiCaprio takes his private jet to a place to get off to give a speech about how we all
00:04:31.200 need to do with less.
00:04:32.440 Joaquin Phoenix, a few months ago, took, you know, a first class plane ticket to D.C., gets
00:04:37.000 off and says, you know, we should all give up meat because of the climate.
00:04:39.740 And I have to wonder, these people like just not care about their hypocrisy or do they
00:04:44.780 genuinely not realize it?
00:04:48.640 I think they realize it, but I also think they realize if they want to keep working in
00:04:53.200 Hollywood, they better abide by the quid pro quo out there right now.
00:04:57.440 You better say this or you're going to hurt your career.
00:05:00.540 I certainly hurt my career.
00:05:01.680 Ten years ago, I got tired of the hypocrisy and I started, you know, being more vocal about
00:05:05.680 it.
00:05:05.740 My wife warned me and she was right.
00:05:07.260 I mean, my agent of many years, I made a lot of money off Hercules and Andromeda off
00:05:10.800 of me and other things, said goodbye.
00:05:12.940 Can't book you anymore.
00:05:14.340 So if it wasn't for independent movies, I wouldn't have a career anymore.
00:05:17.160 But I just got tired of it.
00:05:18.260 It's just like, this is absolutely ridiculous that these people get away with what they get
00:05:21.880 away with.
00:05:22.780 But it's just strange.
00:05:25.380 I just think it was so, like I said, there's so much hate.
00:05:27.700 There's so much anger out there right now.
00:05:29.340 Now, how do you lighten that load?
00:05:33.140 How do you make that stuff go away?
00:05:34.620 I have no idea.
00:05:35.560 But I'm not going to stop.
00:05:36.720 They're not going to silence me.
00:05:38.400 I'm not.
00:05:38.700 I don't think I'm being ridiculous.
00:05:40.340 I think I post a lot of facts out there.
00:05:42.600 But the facts and the truth are something that is kryptonite to these people.
00:05:47.020 When you mention that they all think this is their meal ticket to stay in Hollywood, are
00:05:51.240 you saying that a lot of them you don't think are actually true believers or even concerned
00:05:55.280 with the issue?
00:05:55.900 They just realize this is where I have to be to continue to work in this industry now?
00:06:00.520 Yeah, I know some.
00:06:01.560 I'm not going to name names because it's not my place to do it.
00:06:03.720 But yeah, it's definitely that way.
00:06:06.140 There's a lot of people out there in Hollywood that will vote for Trump, but they'll never
00:06:09.920 say it.
00:06:10.600 They'll vote, not even for Trump, they'll vote for a Republican over what's going on in the
00:06:14.720 Democrats right now.
00:06:15.560 You look at all the major cities in America right now with all these riots are going on,
00:06:18.720 the BLM movement, all that.
00:06:20.360 It's all Democrat-run cities.
00:06:22.860 And it blows my mind that people keep voting these people back in when they're destroying
00:06:27.140 people's lives and their businesses right now.
00:06:29.060 But my brain just went fog for a second.
00:06:31.120 I got to get climatehustle2.com.
00:06:33.680 That's where people can get information, climatehustle2.com.
00:06:36.780 And I better say it or they'll get mad at me for not letting people.
00:06:39.200 Don't worry, we'll have a bar up on the screen as well.
00:06:41.920 So we won't blame you if I end up taking us off track there.
00:06:44.800 But let me actually ask you what drew you to the movie, because I know you did mention
00:06:48.780 that you like to hear all sides.
00:06:50.520 But is this an issue that you've been interested in for a while, or was it one that really has
00:06:54.980 come about more recently?
00:06:56.940 I've been interested forever, because it's always out there.
00:06:59.160 I'm a guy that watches the news.
00:07:00.220 Look, I'll watch the BBC.
00:07:01.760 I'll watch CNN.
00:07:02.420 I'll watch Fox.
00:07:03.080 It's interesting on the same, whatever they're talking about, if it's the same subject, how
00:07:08.220 different they view the subject.
00:07:10.180 So it's worse than, you know, the three sides of a story, yours, mine, the cold, hard truth.
00:07:15.400 I think there's multiple things.
00:07:16.760 It's like multiple news, like we have to have multiple genders now.
00:07:19.840 So it's not near and dear to my heart, but I kind of laugh at what was going on.
00:07:25.320 And I remember when that big Valdez, that big spill we had up in-
00:07:29.460 Oh, yeah, the Exxon, yeah.
00:07:30.880 Yeah, the Exxon thing.
00:07:32.240 And, you know, one of the actors down on Johnny Carson's show goes, this is going to take
00:07:35.820 a hundred years before it gets back to normal.
00:07:37.960 Well, it got back to normal a lot more than it's ever been.
00:07:42.480 I mean, Mother Nature is a much more strong candidate than the rest of the world.
00:07:45.320 And I'm not against green, you know?
00:07:47.680 You want electric cars?
00:07:48.540 Yeah, why not?
00:07:49.240 I'm not opposed to that, because it's created a lot of jobs, too.
00:07:51.500 But it's created a lot of corruption on the other side.
00:07:53.660 So I just get tired of people using this as a weapon to take away tax dollars that could
00:07:59.880 be going to something that's far more important than worrying about one degree in the temperature
00:08:03.540 over the last year, you know, hundred years.
00:08:05.600 Yeah, and that's where it gets back to the tagline of the movie, which is the control
00:08:09.440 aspect, because there are a lot of things.
00:08:11.800 And we see this, especially in Canada, of course, where the oil sector is huge, where
00:08:15.680 the free market is doing a lot of the things to greenify on their own.
00:08:20.020 And then you get, on the other hand, people like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other politicians
00:08:24.800 and some of your former colleagues in Hollywood that are saying, you know what, we need to
00:08:29.520 control this, control that.
00:08:31.180 The world's going to end in 12 years, eight years.
00:08:33.340 And I think eventually it's probably going to be before this interview ends that the
00:08:36.400 world is going to end by one prediction or another.
00:08:38.740 And it is very much about control.
00:08:42.000 Oh, they keep pushing it.
00:08:43.240 You know, everything, if it's not in 2000, it's another 10 years or 20 years from now.
00:08:46.980 Now, control is what's going on right now with COVID, right?
00:08:50.680 Fear is an amazing weapon.
00:08:52.300 And they're using fear.
00:08:53.420 And people get, you know, FDR, one of our presidents way back in the day of the impression,
00:08:57.620 what do you say?
00:08:58.180 The only thing to fear is fear itself.
00:08:59.720 Well, a lot of people are fearing it right now.
00:09:01.840 You know, I'm not a firm believer in the whole mask thing.
00:09:05.140 I think that there is, that we have a virus that's out there.
00:09:08.100 I've got doctor friends.
00:09:09.160 I'm not going to name who they are, where they're from, where they're from, where they're
00:09:11.360 big hospitals.
00:09:12.400 And they're saying the masks don't stop this virus.
00:09:14.160 They don't stop it at all.
00:09:15.080 It's 75% smaller than the flu virus.
00:09:17.000 It goes right through any mask.
00:09:18.360 But we're making people do this.
00:09:19.820 And people get angry if you don't have a mask on.
00:09:21.760 And people are wearing masks because they're told they have to wear them.
00:09:24.320 They're getting angry.
00:09:25.200 So this kind of just builds on it.
00:09:26.520 And the same thing has happened in the climate argument.
00:09:28.980 It just builds on it and builds on it.
00:09:30.420 It becomes more than what the real issue is.
00:09:33.200 I mean, Al Gore is a billionaire now, okay?
00:09:35.640 He became a very wealthy guy off this.
00:09:37.720 So, you know, if I was a smart guy, I would have followed his road and invested in the
00:09:43.060 companies that he got off the ground.
00:09:45.500 Yeah, well, maybe, you know, Climate Hustle 2 can be the anti-inconvenient truth as well
00:09:49.700 and do something as significant as what that film did on the other side.
00:09:54.640 Because, you know, my big frustration, and in retrospect, I think I can be very grateful
00:09:58.820 that at least an inconvenient truth was very open about its agenda.
00:10:02.340 The problem now is that this narrative gets slipped into pretty much anything.
00:10:06.520 I was watching, I can't remember what movie it was.
00:10:08.280 It was some animated movie like Ice Age or Happy Feet.
00:10:11.340 And at the end, they pivoted to like this, you know, global UN commitment to, you know,
00:10:15.760 saving the environment or something like that when you think you've just had a nice little
00:10:19.680 movie.
00:10:20.220 And that, I think, is probably the worst part of this is that there's really no safe haven
00:10:24.960 from being subjected to this narrative.
00:10:29.180 Well, they're putting in every movie.
00:10:31.040 It's always there.
00:10:31.920 Somewhere it always slips in.
00:10:33.880 If it's not a direct movie about the end of the world, there's always issues that they're
00:10:37.620 talking about.
00:10:38.100 I mean, they do it at the BBC does it with the Richard Attenborough thing, you know,
00:10:41.460 about the blue ocean and all these different things.
00:10:43.500 They always throw it in and it gets all dramatic, you know.
00:10:45.920 Yeah, you can't just enjoy the cute turtle and the nice little fish anymore.
00:10:49.340 It's got it.
00:10:49.880 Everything's got to be political now.
00:10:51.200 It's like the Emmys and the Golden Globes and the Oscars.
00:10:53.700 Every actor gets up there now and gets political.
00:10:56.140 I still think Joe Pesci did the best job when he won a supporting actor for Raging Bullying.
00:11:00.400 He went up and said, thank you.
00:11:02.200 And he walked off stage, you know.
00:11:03.500 I love it.
00:11:04.200 Just be grateful you have a job.
00:11:05.860 It's a very competitive business.
00:11:07.400 You're entrepreneurs and you are capitalist.
00:11:09.520 You can scream socialism all you want in Hollywood.
00:11:12.820 But, you know, a lot of those A-list actors, they're rich enough to be socialist.
00:11:16.200 They don't live socialist lifestyles.
00:11:17.560 But Universal, Disney, they're all capitalist business.
00:11:21.060 They want to make money.
00:11:22.260 But it's this whole disguise saying, you know, look up, we care so much more than the rest of you.
00:11:26.860 Look at how much we care about Mother Earth.
00:11:29.440 We all care about the Earth.
00:11:30.700 Give me a break.
00:11:31.460 I mean, America, the two worst countries in the world that I've read about with all the stuff they're spewing in the atmosphere is China and India.
00:11:40.880 But America is one of the lowest ones on there.
00:11:43.280 And we throw the most money at this thing when we have too many more problems with other things that need to be, you know, brought attention to.
00:11:49.200 Oh, yeah.
00:11:49.700 And that's even more exaggerated in Canada, which is just a, you know, a teeny tiny speck in the world compared to a lot of other nations.
00:11:56.040 Yet our politicians say that we need to get taxed up the yin-yang to do all of these other things.
00:12:01.600 And the math doesn't add up there.
00:12:03.220 Just let me ask you in closing here, Kevin, because you talked about the Hollywood narrative there.
00:12:08.400 We had a couple of weeks ago the Oscars come out and say all of a sudden for Best Picture, a film to be nominated, has to check off all these diversity and inclusion boxes.
00:12:17.360 Do you think this is the death of art or has that happened long ago by this point?
00:12:21.860 Well, it's gotten worse and worse as it goes along.
00:12:23.560 Look, I don't care who's in what movie.
00:12:27.420 I don't care what race you're in.
00:12:28.960 If it's a good movie, it should be recognized.
00:12:31.220 But to sit there now and say, well, you have to have this and to fill a diversity quota, then my argument for that is, okay, then in the NBA and the NFL, we need more diversity.
00:12:42.340 I want to see more people from Guam, from Israel, from, you know, from, I don't know, maybe Japan, more people like that in the NFL.
00:12:49.780 And the people would get on my case, no, you want the best people.
00:12:52.240 Well, thank you very much.
00:12:53.960 I want the best movie voted on by people saying because it's the best movie.
00:12:59.540 If it happens to be, for whatever reasons, they're trying to change the Academy Awards for now, so be it.
00:13:05.060 But don't force this way for people to vote on this just because of that.
00:13:10.200 So, you know, they just keep, it's just insanity though right now.
00:13:14.480 Yeah, very much agree.
00:13:15.560 I don't know if Climate Hustle 2 will be able to meet all the diversity criteria to get nominated for best picture,
00:13:20.560 but certainly deserving of it because it's speaking truth on an issue that it is so difficult to find anyone willing to do it.
00:13:27.340 So thanks very much for your bravery in taking part in this and also for coming on today.
00:13:31.880 I greatly appreciate it.
00:13:33.060 You know, it's funny.
00:13:33.640 I don't know if you know Babylon Bee.
00:13:35.040 These guys do very funny little satire bits on the news.
00:13:38.360 And it's fake news, but they make fun of the real news.
00:13:41.220 And because of what they're doing in the Academy Awards, they put one out on me because I do so many faith-based movies like God's Not Dead and What If and Life There'll Be Like.
00:13:48.480 So I said every faith-based movie now must be up for Academy Awards and it has to star Kevin Sorbo in it.
00:13:53.940 So I thought it was pretty funny that they did that.
00:13:56.700 Yeah, that would actually not be a bad idea.
00:13:58.480 So I'm glad I'll have to take a look at that.
00:14:00.700 Thanks very much for coming on.
00:14:02.060 Kevin Sorbo, really great to talk to you.
00:14:04.240 Thanks a lot.
00:14:04.720 Appreciate it.
00:14:05.240 Thanks for listening to The Andrew Lawton Show.
