00:00:00.000 conservative mp jameel giovanni has a message for canadians directly from president trump
00:00:10.800 giovanni is in washington dc for talks aimed at saving auto sector jobs in his riding of
00:00:17.440 bowmanville oshawa north he posted this on x productive meetings today with the white house
00:00:24.480 and state department the president asked me to pass along a message tell the canadians i love them
00:00:31.520 i'll have much more to say later more meetings with senators general motors and others this week
00:00:40.560 giovanni met with his friend vice president j.d vance at the white house yesterday
00:00:46.000 conservative leader pierre polyev had this to say about giovanni's diplomatic mission
00:00:54.480 the forest trip to washington and who is he leading there so um the what i the advice i've
00:00:58.720 given all of our mps is you need to fight for jobs in your community mr giovanni's community's been hit
00:01:04.960 with a massive job loss 1200 jobs in the auto sector and he's going to fight for those auto workers as
00:01:12.720 all of our mps have been doing um and you know mr carney had promised that he would get us a deal by
00:01:19.520 last july my message to him today is conservatives are here to work with the prime minister and with
00:01:27.120 the government to get to knock down these unjust tariffs and fight for our workers fight for their
00:01:33.360 jobs and fight for our economic independence well not everybody is happy with what giovanni is doing
00:01:39.120 here is industry minister melanie jolly he represents people working at gm in his writing i haven't heard
00:01:46.720 once uh not only denouncing what gm was doing but also uh promoting uh the interests of the workers
00:01:54.240 at gm that are facing unjustified and unjustifiable tariffs uh by the american administration and he
00:02:00.480 should be talking much more about it it's it's it's a problem well her boss prime minister carney made
00:02:06.480 it clear giovanni does not represent the government of canada we have extensive contacts with the u.s
00:02:12.400 administration constant contacts with u.s administration uh minister leblanc gave a
00:02:17.360 briefing uh to mr giovanni who i don't believe is the trade critic for the opposition certainly not
00:02:23.840 the minister of international trade nor the prime minister so what do you think carney promised the
00:02:28.560 trade deal with the united states by last july that was seven months ago it's being called one of the
00:02:35.440 darkest days ever for the toronto police this headline and the toronto sun toronto cops busted
00:02:42.400 in horrendous organized crime probe sources say at least nine toronto police officers are under arrest
00:02:49.280 they are suspected of being involved in drug trafficking extortion auto theft gambling and
00:02:55.280 conspiracy to commit murder here is chief jim mcsween well this is a deeply disappointing and sad day for
00:03:02.240 policing this investigation also underscores the insidious corrosive nature of organized crime
00:03:09.760 crime it highlights how these criminals find a way to infiltrate even the most well-protected
00:03:17.520 institutions across our society according to mcsween officers are accused of leaking addresses to hit
00:03:25.600 men and plotting to murder a staff member at the toronto south detention center let's listen investigators
00:03:32.400 allege that toronto police officers had officers had unlawfully accessed personal information this
00:03:42.000 information was then funneled to other criminals who carried out shootings and other violent offenses
00:03:49.360 the investigation also uncovered evidence of other illicit activity which will be outlined
00:03:54.160 by deputy chief hogan our guest is security expert and bodyguard to the billionaires ross mclean ross i
00:04:00.240 know you've been keeping a close eye on this story what's the latest yeah i have been keeping a close eye
00:04:06.240 in this story and to some degree it becomes personal i'm a former toronto police officer mark so as we're
00:04:12.720 looking at this the the story is like something out of a movie in that we've got all of these inside toronto police
00:04:20.560 officers one retired brothers or a father and son team who have been involved in taking information and maybe more
00:04:30.240 and giving it to organized crime that has resulted in the shootings at residences extortions
00:04:37.120 and attempted murder on it's either the officer with toronto that's involved with the detention center
00:04:42.880 or an officer from the detention center wasn't clear from the way they presented it
00:04:47.040 where they were going to do a murder based on as a result of this information so let me tell you it's
00:04:52.560 taken it's taken the force by storm and it's got me worried because of the breadth of the corruption
00:05:01.440 that seems to be exposed here i think we're just sort of starting to peel off the band-aid really mark
00:05:07.200 high ranking heads should roll i think what do you think well i'm going to tell you where my biggest
00:05:13.440 concern on this is is it has always been in anybody who's been in a in a large city or certainly with
00:05:19.600 toronto for 25 years the complaint has always been police investigating police right that's always
00:05:26.400 been the complaint now in this case it's looking like the york recent regional cops who did this
00:05:32.240 investigation looks like a stellar job very proud of them there was no leaks they managed to get these
00:05:38.240 arrests but the concern came in when they knew there was going to be an attempted murder they immediately
00:05:44.720 notified the chief of toronto police whose force is involved in all of this they did not bring in the
00:05:54.160 special investigations unit now the special investigations gangations unit if somebody is
00:06:01.280 going to become shot at or injured or something because of a police officer's conduct you call them in
00:06:07.360 you call them in but they weren't brought in here despite the fact we have reports of shootings extortions
00:06:12.560 and attempted murder so that's a concern and the chief of toronto police has come out said oh i am
00:06:21.360 voluntarily calling in the chief ontario police inspector for the province to look at our whole
00:06:29.200 setup how we vet security in the police and how we do our investigations and everything
00:06:33.920 and my concern there is mark how much was he on the outside looking in and how much was this demanded
00:06:43.040 of him that you better have someone come and look at your force the way it's set up because we found a
00:06:47.680 lot of corruption going on that's my fear that's why i think it's going to go further mark yeah i mean
00:06:54.160 these are extremely serious allegations charges you're talking about drug trafficking extortion this was
00:07:01.120 organized crime at a very high level amongst the toronto police service and there was a lot of
00:07:06.720 people involved and so apparently there was also talk that information was leaked to hit men assassins
00:07:16.080 basically who used that information to make targeted hits on individuals is that right yeah this was out
00:07:23.280 in the west end of toronto so what i'm going to say here is a little bit of guesstimation
00:07:27.200 so this is not necessarily facts that came out but it looks like the police divisions were from the
00:07:33.360 west end my understanding is one of the officers who was implicated here had some experience or was
00:07:39.760 with the guns and gangs unit and i do know from past homicides uh that have gone on out in that area
00:07:48.240 this involves gambling supposedly and in other issues and probably debt collection
00:07:52.640 that the the mob would hire gangsters from back you called them the bloods and the grips but they
00:07:59.920 would hire gangsters to go do the hits and it's sounding like that may have been a bit of what went on
00:08:06.000 here based on what i'm hearing about the arrests when the police caught those guys going to our house
00:08:12.160 and shooting it up uh there was talk of some other arrests are going to come they arrested three there and
00:08:17.840 three others and i'm just sort of guessing that that they were all the hitting was being outsourced
00:08:23.760 everywhere and we're also seeing a mixture i want to say this without take this the right way but you're
00:08:31.200 seeing it looks like different cultural organizational crime here going on between perhaps the mob
00:08:39.280 perhaps some of the indian organized crime that we've seen here and then the street gangs all operating
00:08:45.680 together with the help of a number of police officers and i think there's more coming from
00:08:55.120 other forces mark i think there's more coming oh really and there was a plot to murder a staff
00:09:00.640 member at the toronto south detention center as well right somebody worked there yeah and we're not
00:09:06.800 getting the full grift of that like who like what one would imagine you'd want to look for the uh
00:09:13.360 the motive for that who was in the prison that didn't like this guy or didn't get treated well
00:09:18.720 or thought it was payback time because this guy maybe was not cooperating or doing something
00:09:24.960 that they wanted done from the inside i mean the amount of drugs that get moved in and out of
00:09:29.600 prisons and assaults i mean it's not a nice place right so what is the further story on that
00:09:37.360 we just got the basic details and can i tell you one other strange thing mark or
00:09:43.040 at that presser you had the toronto police chief the york regional police chief the deputy police
00:09:49.200 chief from york region they're explaining this and they're all wearing body armor soft body armor
00:09:56.000 at the presser they're in their white shirts with their soft body armor on you don't normally see the
00:10:00.880 white shirts putting on their soft body armor unless they're going out on the road somewhere or doing
00:10:05.440 something so what's that about was there a threat are they being careful i mean if they already tried
00:10:12.720 to murder a cop and they had inside information how much further is this going it's that's speculation
00:10:19.600 on my part but that's the sort of eyes that i have when i move into the close protection world you want
00:10:24.400 to see where something is going so i have the police background and the close protection background there
00:10:29.760 how high should the blame go and i mean should somebody be resigning today as a result of all
00:10:34.560 that well some reporter asked the chief that at the presser today and he said well i'm staying on
00:10:41.200 he didn't say anybody asked them to resign or not but i'm telling you the question without the siu
00:10:47.920 being called in once they knew that someone's life was in danger and shots were being fired that's the
00:10:53.680 mandate of the siu and if there's anything even close to a whiff of should we call the siu they're
00:11:00.480 supposed to call them now they're there they work confidentially there's some uh top ex-police there
00:11:08.080 you could have them in on this whole investigation and make sure you're getting everybody because
00:11:13.280 let me put it this way it's been my experience that where you have corrupt cops and you've got
00:11:18.720 international drug dealing which we're seeing here this guy was reportedly bringing in cocaine
00:11:24.160 in exchange for pot going down from toronto toronto's a mass exporter a pot that's one place
00:11:29.680 we work well in our trademark and bringing the cocaine in but a lot of times when you see that you see
00:11:36.000 other people are also corrupted prosecutors judges border people but not we didn't hear about any arrests
00:11:44.240 in any of those areas uh so that's what i'm wondering how far does this go or how far did they take it
00:11:52.000 yeah absolutely how how high up the ladder maybe one of these guys that was arrested can be co-opted
00:12:00.080 into spilling the beans on higher ups who may have been taking kickbacks or bribes as well what do you think
00:12:09.040 well that's where we need more information on exactly what did these officers do did they just
00:12:16.560 give information did they know specifically what the information was for did they partake there's
00:12:21.760 talk i think of one officer once it's hard to put it together the way the chiefs just say it then they
00:12:26.720 don't allow a lot of questions one question maybe one follow-up but it sounds like there was one gun
00:12:32.720 that was an automatic weapon that's brought in this loot used in a lot of the shootings and there's talk
00:12:36.480 of one officer being charged with uh getting hold of property from it sounds like an evidence room with
00:12:43.600 passports ids and weapons perhaps were weapons perhaps being trafficked in this one once again
00:12:51.200 i'm speculating but these are the questions that need to be asked i mean when you're a cop and you're
00:12:58.240 out there risking your life and i've known some of the top undercover cops in the business they are risking
00:13:04.880 their life and you know they're really really good ones man it's a talent same as mcdavid scoring goals
00:13:12.160 i couldn't do what they do i could not act the way that they act and do what they do but if their life
00:13:17.760 if someone's life like that was compromised because a brother in blue let out their their information i mean
00:13:26.800 that's i i don't have words for it and i i can tell you the police boards are buzzing about this
00:13:33.360 with the cops in the field that this happened there there's real problems about that yeah i mean
00:13:40.560 it must have demoralized people who are on the force honest police officers who just want to
00:13:46.960 do their job and to your point their job their lives may very well have been put at risk by their
00:13:53.120 brother officers leaking information saying hey watch out for this guy you know he's going to be
00:13:59.680 investigating this case or that case and yeah that's extremely disturbing and there obviously there has
00:14:07.520 to be a massive investigation here i mean does the province get involved in something that's huge
00:14:14.320 so the the chief has voluntarily called for this new ontario police directorate i'm not sure the exact title
00:14:22.480 he's in charge of all the policing to come in and he's asked him to do a big investigation into
00:14:27.360 five big areas of their policing it's interesting that he had time to identify five big areas the hiring
00:14:34.240 the ongoing vetting of officers and they didn't really speak to what the other areas are but if
00:14:40.400 they're having to come in to look at that wide of a a swatch of the way the toronto police force
00:14:48.000 operates it wasn't very targeted oh we wanted to find out how they use this system no it sounds like
00:14:53.920 it's a pretty wide net that they want to put on this and i got a feeling that that was probably
00:14:59.760 quietly demanded of the chief that he be the one that writes the letter for it that would be
00:15:03.440 once again my guess on that i'm wondering if there's any issues around i mean if you're talking
00:15:10.160 about hiring whether welkism is an issue of this obsession with ethnicity perhaps even
00:15:18.960 racism anti-white racism in favor of certain groups not others i mean is this inevitably
00:15:29.040 a product of that type of attitude as far as hiring goes diversity hiring i'm talking about
00:15:35.680 i'm going to tell you it absolutely is it's not a popular thing to say i've heard for years that
00:15:42.320 the standards have been lowered for hiring in the toronto police i've heard everything from reading and
00:15:47.520 writing skills to language skills to concerns with the way people have to behave based on their own
00:15:54.960 cultural beliefs that that has gotten in the way uh so it's part of it and look i know people who are
00:16:03.280 recruiting i know other police departments who are recruiting they are working hard to find good
00:16:08.160 people i mean man i should probably should probably put a bounty out of a thousand bucks to get good
00:16:12.880 people to come they're working hard to find them and they are hiring good people but my understanding
00:16:18.160 is especially with the toronto force they were going to have a ton of cops leave this year because
00:16:23.280 they're going to retire is going to leave a huge gap and the chief actually went to them all and said hey
00:16:28.160 i'm going to throw extra money at you for your benefits and this and that and the other
00:16:32.160 if you stay on until 2028 apparently and then someone in the crowd when he was addressing the
00:16:37.600 force i'm told said to him yeah but then what's going to happen in 2028 you're going to have a ton
00:16:42.160 of people leaving in 2028 so it sure is a challenge to have the resources but you know i just want to
00:16:51.760 say again these these guys who work in surveillance and who did this they did a great job because no leaks
00:16:57.440 came out from the york region as far as we know to contain the damage that's where the siu would
00:17:01.840 have helped but i i had one time mark i was in uniform i've i run into this whole pile of bikers
00:17:09.760 and i they were walking into my police station i was ticked at what are these bikers doing in my
00:17:14.800 police station i went right to the staff inspector i said what are these guys doing in our station they
00:17:20.080 shouldn't be in here and he looked at me and he said they're ours ross
00:17:26.480 and i i could not tell yeah i can usually pick out a a cop when they're in old clothes or this
00:17:31.600 that and the other but some of these old clothes guys they're very very good and they risk their
00:17:35.920 lives make no doubt about it no doubt absolutely and it makes you wonder though how long did this
00:17:42.160 corruption go on i mean did this was this going on for years um any word on that
00:17:51.680 well mark let's do a bit of a crossover here i've talked with you you've interviewed me before
00:17:55.680 and i've talked to you about what seems to be the lack of investigations into people of in authority who
00:18:01.520 are committing potentially crimes and i'll go back to the cesus officers who came out and linked the
00:18:07.440 information and the and the the search warrants and the and the money and the receipts about foreign
00:18:13.600 interference with chinese interfering with our government in our elections right they felt so
00:18:18.560 bad that the corruption was so bad that they felt they had to become whistleblowers to go undercover
00:18:23.200 to get the information out so i think this this country is due for a whole new level of finding some
00:18:30.720 sort of task force to do investigations into people in power that can be credible i mean look at the
00:18:37.840 epstein stuff that's coming out now can anybody even believe the amount of reach that guy had and the
00:18:42.880 amount of influence he had so that's where the concern comes in here with this bust in toronto
00:18:48.400 largest police force capable police force but they communicate on intelligence levels with
00:18:54.240 all kinds of other police forces what kind of information was being leaked yeah i mean
00:19:00.560 that's the question they've got a public problem don't they i mean how do you restore trust in the
00:19:05.440 police department after this uh the police board's gonna have to figure something out i you know uh
00:19:15.440 i said like mark like legislation has to be brought in to deal with this because every layer of government
00:19:22.240 feels they're above the law these days and no one looks into them and they go and investigate themselves so
00:19:28.800 that's what i'm saying is at the root of this one this is the police investigating the police
00:19:33.680 when they call in uh this uh appointed provincial board member guy to do the work well he's another
00:19:40.320 police associated guy who's coming in to overlook the police you'd like to think that there's some
00:19:45.600 independence and we'd be putting away some really really bad guys and we'll prevent really really bad
00:19:51.040 guys from doing dangerous things you know i i used to say i didn't come across many bad cops in my day
00:19:58.720 i one percent one and a half percent i would say hi but i used to say to people all it takes is meeting
00:20:04.000 one bad cop to ruin your life yeah and so the consequences can be pretty bad and it's a high
00:20:10.480 bar that the police have to hold and my my uh my heart yeah and my prayers go out to them all the time
00:20:16.880 uh but this really needs to have some independent eyes taking a strong look at this one absolutely
00:20:24.720 how do people consume your content online on x and elsewhere they can find me on x at mclean chronicles
