Well, we're out here to show our support to thousands of law-abiding, tax-paying Canadians
00:00:07.480
who have come to the nation's capital to peacefully assemble and express their point of view.
00:00:12.480
They need to be heard, and we're here to listen.
00:00:15.160
Now, there have been people out here from Alberta,
00:00:17.360
constituents who have come across the country from your neck of the woods.
00:00:20.580
What is it you make of people going that distance to be here?
00:00:23.200
Yeah, I think that this shows that Canadians want to be heard.
00:00:27.360
And I have a number of constituents who I've been meeting with and plan to meet with throughout the day
00:00:33.080
who are saying, look, it's time for decision-makers to listen.
00:00:38.440
but it's time that the decision-makers understand that there are those that are frustrated with the status quo.
00:00:43.260
It's time to make some changes, time to discuss what a path back to normal looks like.
00:00:49.100
You know, it's been a very, very difficult two years with COVID,
00:00:51.400
but it's time to ensure that we have those conversations about how we can do things like respect freedom,
00:00:56.160
respect rights, respect the fact that there are those that are losing their livelihoods.
00:01:01.180
It is absurd that, you know, when it comes to the auspices of what started this rally,
00:01:06.560
the fact that truck drivers who were heralded as heroes even months ago are now losing their livelihoods.
00:01:12.720
And I've spoken to some of those truck drivers, and it is absolutely heartbreaking
00:01:15.960
that because of an edict from Ottawa that these heroes would lose their livelihoods.
00:01:24.340
A lot of people who are here feel not only like they're not being heard by Trudeau,
00:01:29.200
but also by their provincial governments, and even in cases by the opposition, by the Conservatives.
00:01:33.720
So how is it that you make sure these people are heard in a way that isn't just about today,
00:01:37.620
but longer term as we go through government response to COVID?
00:01:42.600
We have opposed these mandates all along, and I'm going to do what I can do,
00:01:47.320
and I know Damien will do the same, to take the voices of truckers and everyday Canadians who are here
00:01:52.980
back to the House of Commons so that Justin Trudeau gets the message.
00:01:57.900
I mean, these mandates have been a complete disaster.
00:02:04.460
They're not keeping anyone safe, but what they are doing is they are punitive.
00:02:09.480
They're ruining people's lives and livelihoods.
00:02:13.340
And not only that, with respect to the mandates for the truckers,
00:02:17.980
it's exacerbating the serious supply chain issues that we face in this country.
00:02:23.340
So in terms of the cost of essentials, the produce on our grocery shelves,
00:02:29.640
it's going to get a lot worse, and that's going to hurt everyday Canadians.
00:02:33.060
So we've got to stand up and go back to the House and put all the pressure on the government to reverse course.
00:02:43.060
What's the message that you even take as an MP when you leave this group here?
00:02:46.640
It's time for decision-makers to start listening,
00:02:49.200
because we can hear that their message is being shouted loud and clear here in Ottawa,
00:02:54.400
and it's the same message that I think has been ignored throughout much of certainly the last number of months,
00:02:59.980
and it's time for decision-makers to start listening.
00:03:02.640
Certainly myself, and I know Michael and Conservatives are making sure that we are doing that listening
00:03:08.780
that we can respect the fact that Canadians are tired, ready to move forward.
00:03:13.600
And that's certainly the message that I plan to take to the House of Commons on Monday.
