00:00:09.360 one for keeping New Year's resolutions, but I do think that 2020 is going to be a watershed
00:00:14.720 year as the Conservative movement in Canada is forced to confront that age-old question
00:00:19.760 of what Conservatism truly means. Not that Conservatism's definition changes,
00:00:25.360 but certainly Conservative Party's willingness to embrace that definition changes. So I want to
00:00:31.040 put a suggestion forward to Conservative parties, to Conservative politicians, and even just to
00:00:36.160 individual Conservatives in this country. Make 2020 the year you start pushing back. You see,
00:00:43.440 one of the biggest problems that Conservative politicians face is that they are defined
00:00:48.240 by the Left. They are defined on Liberal terms, they are defined on Liberal policies, and they are
00:00:53.760 defined on Liberal premises. And oftentimes, instead of rejecting these premises, people on the right
00:00:59.440 try to wishy-washy themselves around and not really deal with the meat of the question, not really deal
00:01:05.760 with the meat of the accusation. We saw this most recently in Canada with Andrew Scheer, where instead
00:01:11.280 of just planting his feet and being honest and transparent of what he believes on social issues,
00:01:16.160 he was trying to make it so that there was a maneuvered answer, a politically scripted answer
00:01:22.480 that would be saleable. It didn't work. The lesson in this is that you have to stand your ground,
00:01:27.360 because at least you are standing somewhere. The result, of course, is that Andrew Scheer is
00:01:31.680 getting hit by the Red Tories for being too conservative and the Blue Tories for being too red.
00:01:37.200 We see this in any number of areas. One of the reasons Donald Trump has been so successful as a
00:01:41.840 politician is because he rejected the rulebook that every other lawmaker or prospective lawmaker has
00:01:48.240 tried to play by. Doug Ford, very similar in Ontario, rose to where he did today because he wasn't playing
00:01:54.240 the game of the people that were trying to criticize him. The media is always going to do what the media
00:02:00.240 does best. The media is always going to be defined, for the most part, based on people that have liberal
00:02:05.680 worldviews. In many cases, people that haven't even met a conservative in their life. And that's why they
00:02:11.600 are approaching the issues the way they are. So if you're on the right, you have to fight back. If you go along with
00:02:17.120 the narrative, because you say that's not the hill to die on, eventually you're going to run out of
00:02:22.400 hills. And this is my message to the right. Make this the year you fight back. Not because there's
00:02:28.800 something noble about fighting, but certainly because if you don't, you're going to see your
00:02:34.480 ground recede more and more every single year. And if you believe the age-old axiom coined by Andrew
00:02:41.760 Breitbart, that politics is downstream of culture, which I do, then you have to accept that every time
00:02:47.040 you give an inch, you are giving the other side momentum against you. And this is especially true
00:02:53.200 when it comes to free speech. If you cede any ground on your ability to discuss the issues,
00:02:58.720 you're not going to be able to win the argument on any other issue. Margaret Thatcher said,
00:03:03.200 first you win the argument, then you win the election. The right needs to start winning the
