00:00:00.000 This is Clayton Demain with True North at Nathan Phillips Square in
00:00:29.840 Toronto.
00:00:30.840 Behind me is pro-Shah, anti-regime Iranian protesters asking for freedom in Iran.
00:00:37.080 Yesterday we saw over 10,000 protesters in the streets of Toronto.
00:00:42.840 Today they're showing up.
00:00:44.800 We hear chants of Javid Shah, which means long live the king.
00:00:50.020 They're asking for the king Reza Pahlavi to return to Iran, bringing it back to a pre-revolution, 0.88
00:00:56.600 Islamic revolution country.
00:00:58.720 So we're going to go talk to some of these protesters.
00:01:01.900 The regime in Iran has shut off the internet and communications.
00:01:05.760 Starlink is the only way that people are getting information out of Iran.
00:01:09.800 And they've been killing protesters who are asking for freedom from the Islamic regime.
00:01:15.440 So let's go see what people have to say.
00:01:17.740 Can you tell us about this sign a little bit?
00:01:19.640 What are you holding up here?
00:01:20.760 So what's happening inside Iran is a revolution.
00:01:23.840 Most of them, most of Iranians want Shah back to Iran.
00:01:27.020 They shout Javid Shah, which means long live Iran Shah.
00:01:30.120 Their flag is crowned lion's son.
00:01:32.820 Lion's son is 7,000 years old, symbol for Iran.
00:01:37.220 And crown means we are monarchists.
00:01:39.020 We are here to support Iranians inside Iran who are being murdered by brutal regime of Iran.
00:01:45.200 They need support.
00:01:46.060 They need Mr. Trump to activate R2P, responsible to protect.
00:01:51.000 The government is killing his nation.
00:01:53.200 Other nations can do some sort of intervention.
00:01:57.000 I hope the army of Iran will join the nation because right now, unlike four years ago, they 1.00
00:02:02.540 were saying women's life, women's life freedom.
00:02:05.180 Now they say long live Iran Shah. 0.99
00:02:07.840 Women's life freedom is inside long live Iran Shah. 1.00
00:02:10.520 Because Shah of Iran, 10 years before Switzerland, gave the right to vote to women in Iran.
00:02:16.480 So everything you want, you want Iran, you want the right for women, you want anything 0.99
00:02:21.420 you want is in long live Iran Shah. 0.89
00:02:23.220 And we support the Shah of Iran and we are here with the flags and the portrait of a Shah.
00:02:27.640 I will bring much more of this one to support the Iranians who are actually dying for their
00:02:35.780 cause.
00:02:36.780 We have a group.
00:02:37.780 If you want, you can see it.
00:02:39.660 We organize some gatherings.
00:02:42.840 It's over four years that I am in the streets, including freedom rally with my friends and
00:02:48.460 anywhere that I can support Iranians and Canadians, real Canadians.
00:02:54.680 Okay.
00:02:55.680 And so what do you say to people who, I mean, there's a lot of media reports, um, saying
00:02:59.320 that the protests, not revolution in Iran was for economic reasons has, did it start that
00:03:05.760 way?
00:03:06.760 Has it like, what, what is, what is it really about?
00:03:08.340 They are fake media.
00:03:09.340 They are leftists.
00:03:10.340 They want to keep the Islamic Republic in Iran up and running. 0.81
00:03:14.560 Uh, what's going on in Iran is a revolution.
00:03:17.460 Just one, one example, MEK is a terrorist group.
00:03:19.820 I am talking about 1970s.
00:03:21.500 They bombarded, like they used explosives in, uh, uh, restaurants.
00:03:27.100 They burned cinemas.
00:03:28.520 They managed to bring Khomeini, Khomeini killed MEK members later.
00:03:33.320 Now MEK members, 10 of them, 20 of them go to Melasman, CTV is over there to cover them.
00:03:39.580 A few minutes later than after that, in return for 50 seniors, 2000 Iranians are there.
00:03:46.300 There is no CTV.
00:03:47.300 There is no CP24.
00:03:48.300 There is no media to cover those who support this man.
00:03:52.760 For Canadians, like, can you explain what MEK is?
00:03:55.520 MEK is a terrorist group.
00:03:57.240 Their ideology comes from Islam and Marxism, combination, combination of Islam and Marxism.
00:04:02.520 The Shah of Iran said it, uh, 50 years ago. 0.95
00:04:05.300 The unholy alliance of red and black is destroying the world. 1.00
00:04:10.140 This new Shah, Reza Shah II said it like in conservative, uh, uh, gathering, uh, right before
00:04:17.260 unsuccessful assassination of Trump.
00:04:19.840 The unholy alliance of the red and black. 1.00
00:04:22.120 They are, they have destroyed my country and they are here to destroy your civilization. 0.96
00:04:31.240 You have to stand with them.
00:04:32.720 MEK is the best sample for unholy alliance of the red and black. 1.00
00:04:37.280 They also cooperated with Saddam al-Hussain to kill Iranians and to fight with Iranians. 0.76
00:04:42.120 Do you think Canada, the government of Canada is doing enough to support the people in Iran?
00:04:48.240 And what can they do to, to better support freedom in Iran?
00:04:51.600 I have nothing to say about Marxist Carney.
00:04:54.460 But Canadians should wake up and choose politicians who at least save this country.
00:05:01.900 This country is falling.
00:05:03.160 It is not still in a irreversible point.
00:05:06.120 Irreversible point is where you lose your army.
00:05:08.580 Our armed forces are like, uh, controlled by Islamists or leftists.
00:05:12.040 What do you think this, this revolution, this uprising is really about?
00:05:15.660 I think people who want to distract from the, uh, national uprising will come up with all
00:05:20.200 sorts of explanation.
00:05:21.200 But the fact is that the people of Iran have been fighting against this regime since 1979,
00:05:27.240 uh, with the women's March, uh, in, uh, you know, on March 8th, 1979 against the mandatory 0.92
00:05:33.360 hijab and so on.
00:05:34.960 So, uh, this may have started as a, uh, uh, in response to economic hardship and with the
00:05:41.660 bazaar closing.
00:05:43.160 But our people have fought for their freedom many times over the past few years.
00:05:47.600 They've paid with their lives.
00:05:49.220 This is not about economics.
00:05:50.600 This is about freedom.
00:05:51.760 Uh, they want to have a share in their own destiny.
00:05:56.060 They don't want their national resources to be plundered to support terrorism abroad.
00:06:00.660 They want to have peace with all nations and prosperity.
00:06:03.780 So, U.S. President Donald Trump, uh, threatened the regime saying if you kill your own people,
00:06:09.720 um, they'll, there'll be military intervention essentially.
00:06:13.020 Uh, there's been a lot of reports, um, I don't want to speculate, but, like, there's at least
00:06:19.620 40 confirmed dead, likely way larger now.
00:06:22.980 Um, would you support you, the U.S. intervening in this and, and, uh, fighting the regime?
00:06:30.400 The fact is that, uh, Iranian civilians that have, uh, uh, you know, been, uh, protesting
00:06:37.040 and, uh, this national uprising is their, a result of their bravery, they are unarmed
00:06:42.280 civilians and they're up against a regime that's murderous and it's, uh, armed to the teeth.
00:06:47.780 If anybody thinks that the Iranian people, they've shown their bravery, they've shown what 1.00
00:06:52.020 they want, but if anybody thinks that they can do this without any help, they're either
00:06:57.020 delusional or they're making a case for survival of Islamic Republic.
00:07:00.940 Nobody wants to see intervention in their country, but, you know what, Germany and France also
00:07:06.140 had to get U.S. help to get rid of fascism.
00:07:08.900 This is a very gray area for most Iranian people, especially people outside of Iran, because
00:07:14.940 it's obviously not, uh, a fun thing for another country to bomb, uh, Iran or our cities, but
00:07:22.400 at this point we know that the people need the support of Donald Trump, of President Donald
00:07:27.820 Trump, of any, any country, any person, any people in power who can help us, because it's
00:07:33.480 just people against this regime that has bombs, they have missiles, they have every power and
00:07:40.200 everything in this world, and the people are just powerless in that sense.
00:07:45.720 So yes, I think we are all waiting, waiting, uh, for some help to come from the U.S.
00:07:52.640 Okay.
00:07:53.640 Um, can you explain to Canadians, like, why, why are so many Iranians behind, uh, the Shah, 1.00
00:07:59.600 Raza Pahlavi?
00:08:00.600 Why are, why are you guys so hopeful for his return?
00:08:03.680 For me, I can't, I can't speak on behalf of everyone, but for me and the, maybe Gen Z that
00:08:09.340 grew up in Iran, uh, I think we see that time before the revolution as a golden time of Iran. 0.72
00:08:16.260 Um, we were all gathered together over the unity of our country, of our, um, ancient culture
00:08:23.460 and everything that represents Iran and not Islam.
00:08:26.580 Um, so for us, I think it's just hoping for that secular, um, Iran that we've seen before 1.00
00:08:36.760 for a very short time.
00:08:37.760 Why are you wearing the masks?
00:08:39.760 Okay.
00:08:40.760 So the reason I'm wearing masks today is that I'm afraid if I go back to my own country that
00:08:45.180 has been occupied by this regime, I would get executed just as simple as that.
00:08:51.520 So there's like a dictatorship going on.
00:08:53.880 And right now there's like a blackout going on.
00:08:56.080 And last time it happened, 1,400 people died.
00:09:00.900 And right now, the latest news we have is that there are 2,000 people in Iran that died
00:09:07.520 only in two days.
00:09:08.520 And cause of blackout, nobody knows what's happening in Iran.
00:09:12.520 They are killing people.
00:09:14.480 This is what I've heard from my friends.
00:09:15.940 Okay.
00:09:16.940 Back in Iran.
00:09:17.940 So they are killing people and they are coming forward to pick their bodies and stuff because
00:09:23.520 they don't want to leave any evidence.
00:09:25.660 And what they do is that they keep those bodies as hostages.
00:09:28.660 So families would have to go to them, pay, either pay to them or either they have to be
00:09:35.660 silent.
00:09:36.660 They have to remain silent for people to not know that these people were killed by the
00:09:40.660 regime.
00:09:41.660 So this is what's happening right now.
00:09:42.660 And I'm trying to be a voice for my people, be our voice.
00:09:46.660 So wait.
00:09:47.660 Okay.
00:09:48.660 In the next, in the next following days, what, what do you ideally want to see in Iran?
00:09:53.660 Uh, how, how do you think this goes?
00:09:55.660 Like, I know people are saying revolution.
00:09:57.660 How, like, what's your ideal?
00:09:59.660 Do you want the U S to intervene?
00:10:00.660 How are we getting a free Iran? 0.99
00:10:03.660 People having different ideas.
00:10:05.660 So I'm not representing the whole population in Iran.
00:10:08.660 But what I would say right now is that U S might have some like bad experience and like
00:10:14.660 intervening in different countries.
00:10:15.660 We all can agree on that.
00:10:17.660 Right.
00:10:18.660 But what I'm saying right now is that they can also be helpful.
00:10:22.660 They can also be really helpful.
00:10:24.660 What do you think Canada can do to help?
00:10:26.660 What do I think Canada can do?
00:10:28.660 So I think there are already multiple sanctions on them.
00:10:32.660 But I would say there are so many regime people that live in this country.
00:10:36.660 We are literally like, we are like a shelter for them.
00:10:40.660 So they're even thinking about even tomorrow after the revolution, they can come here to
00:10:46.660 Canada.
00:10:47.660 We have to stop them from doing that.
00:10:49.660 They have no place anywhere. 0.99
00:10:51.660 They shouldn't go anywhere cause these guys are crazy. 0.98
00:10:54.660 And I'm telling you cause I know what happens in Iran. 0.88
00:10:58.660 I used to be in Iran like two years ago.
00:11:00.660 I came here two years ago.
00:11:01.660 So I saw the last time that it happened and I would say, it's just crazy.
00:11:06.660 And if you want to see pictures and enough like evidences, I have it.
00:11:10.660 I have like a lot of pictures in my phone showing that there are bullets that have been shot.
00:11:15.660 And they are not like normal bullets.
00:11:17.660 They're like AK 47 bullets. 0.98
00:11:19.660 And I would see my friends getting killed. 0.98
00:11:22.660 And I would say best they can do at least is that don't let these people come here. 1.00
00:11:28.660 Please stop letting these terrorists come.
00:11:32.660 Please do not give the wrong information.
00:11:35.660 When CBC News say 1000 people are there, he's leaving.
00:11:40.660 He's from CBC News.
00:11:41.660 He's leaving because they don't want to talk about us.
00:11:45.660 The truth of people of Iran.
00:11:47.660 People are dying.
00:11:48.660 There is no internet.
00:11:49.660 There is no cell phone.
00:11:50.660 I have no idea if my family are alive.
00:11:53.660 In this situation, they go and show the group of people who people of Iran doesn't even believe them. 0.92
00:11:59.660 Do you have any thoughts on, you know, Starlink is over Iran.
00:12:03.660 Some people have access and that's how we're getting footage.
00:12:06.660 Do you have any thoughts about that?
00:12:08.660 We really appreciate that.
00:12:10.660 But the main problem is they should purchase the Starlink box itself,
00:12:16.660 which is with the situation in Iran, it's really expensive.
00:12:20.660 And right now nothing goes there.
00:12:22.660 So nobody can buy it.
00:12:24.660 You know what I mean?
00:12:25.660 So there is no way people can have an access to even a Starlink.
00:12:29.660 I don't know.
00:12:30.660 Many of these people here doesn't know if their family are alive.
00:12:34.660 This is unfair to Canadian citizens.
00:12:37.660 We have the same right as people of other parts of the world.
00:12:41.660 Like there was a conflict between Gaza and Palestine.
00:12:46.660 Everybody came.
00:12:47.660 Everybody talk about Palestine.
00:12:48.660 Why nobody talk about us?
00:12:50.660 We are not human.
00:12:51.660 U.S. President Donald Trump threatened about a week ago or as the uprising started,
00:12:57.660 threatened military action against the regime.
00:13:00.660 Do you support that?
00:13:01.660 Yes, we support him because right now we don't have any hope.
00:13:05.660 We don't have any power.
00:13:07.660 We are powerless people.
00:13:08.660 If we stand without gun, if we stand without anything, they kill us.
00:13:12.660 So the only hope we have is somebody from outside help us. 0.95
00:13:17.660 And that's the reason we need to be unit.
00:13:19.660 Even if you have any different idea, different opinion at this point,
00:13:23.660 we all need to be stand on the same line for people of Iran.
00:13:27.660 Do you have any message to Canadians about what a free Iran could mean for Canada and its allies?
00:13:33.660 Perfect.
00:13:34.660 We do not have credit cards in Iran.
00:13:36.660 We do not have many things.
00:13:38.660 We basically, our life stopped in 50 years ago.
00:13:41.660 So our life can be promoted and promoted.
00:13:44.660 Canadians can welcome to Iran. 0.97
00:13:46.660 They can bring their market.
00:13:48.660 We can have free trade.
00:13:50.660 Free Iran is better for everybody because there is no terrorist attack in anywhere in part of the world.
00:13:56.660 We know there were four Canadians who got terrorist attack by Iran in Canada,
00:14:04.660 and in the land of Canada, in the land of Toronto.
00:14:07.660 They told them they are going to kill them. 0.93
00:14:09.660 Just a real quick message to Mr. Carney and all the world leaders. 0.69
00:14:13.660 This regime will do anything to stay in power.
00:14:17.660 They are killing their own people. 0.94
00:14:19.660 They are killing my people, my family.
00:14:21.660 If they stay in power, if this doesn't become a revolution, they will get power.
00:14:29.660 They will make nukes, make bombs, and they will do the same thing to you guys.
00:14:33.660 So you got to be mindful of your own sake.
00:14:36.660 Because we are first, you are going to be next.
00:14:39.660 So we have just spoken to several individuals here.
00:14:42.660 A lot of passion, a lot of hope.
00:14:45.660 Some people said that if Iran is free, like a significant amount of refugees who are currently living here will go back to Iran.
00:14:54.660 People are asking for Donald Trump to be a man of his word and intervene and help the Iranian people.
00:15:02.660 He did threaten the regime that if they kill their own citizens and peaceful protesters, they will be hell to pay.
00:15:09.660 Since then, the regime has been killing its own people.
00:15:12.660 Obviously, the media blackout.
00:15:14.660 People are mentioning how Iranians don't have weapons.
00:15:18.660 So they want regime change.
00:15:21.660 And we haven't spoken to a single person who is against U.S. intervention to help the people of Iran.
00:15:30.660 They're all calling Javid Shah, long live the king. 0.85
00:15:34.660 They support the crown prince returning to Iran and establishing a secular democratic society.
00:15:42.660 They're calling for action from the Canadian government as well to get rid of regime officials who are living in Canada.
00:15:50.660 There's been reports that 700 are living here.
00:15:55.660 Last year, there was a report that 400 officials from Iran were living in Canada.
00:16:02.660 So people are asking for more, not just words, but action to help Iran become a free country.
00:16:10.660 This has been Clayton DeMaine with True North reporting from Toronto.
