00:00:00.000 members that were there, as well as people who described themselves as potential members
00:00:05.700 willing to take out a membership.
00:00:07.660 There were two big things that was coming through.
00:00:10.880 First of all, they wanted a Conservative to lead the Conservative Party of BC,
00:00:15.300 which shouldn't be such a big moment, but it seemed to become that.
00:00:21.580 Secondly, they said, we don't want somebody who says they're Conservative,
00:00:26.600 sounds like a conservative and ends up not being conservative those are two elements of perhaps a
00:00:35.420 similar point but they're not the same and that led me to look at what is my record
00:00:44.180 where have I come from the other people in the race where have they come from were they saying
00:00:50.480 the same thing two three years ago they're saying now not all of them were and it's all on video
00:00:55.580 today in this world and I wanted to assure people that I am reliable in that sense I think that's
00:01:05.000 the word I used and it interestingly led I saw other competitors trying to talk more like me I
00:01:14.780 even see them stealing some of my lines in the sense of copying them and that's okay
00:01:21.240 you know imitation is the sincerest form of flattery they say but it comes naturally to me
00:01:28.960 whereas they were looking to it like a talking point oh i should add that into what i'm saying
00:01:34.120 as opposed to just being who you are i think people see me i am who i am uh so you're not
00:01:40.580 going to be changing i'm not changing i think i used margaret thatcher's uh words in one of the
00:01:47.200 debates and I said because they called her the grocer's daughter and I said well this
00:01:54.120 electrician's daughter isn't for turning because I think it's a good statement and she also said
00:02:01.560 first you win the argument then you win the vote and I've had people say well how are you going
00:02:08.040 to bring you know middle of the road people along they said because I am talking about hope
00:02:13.620 and opportunity and having a feeling of a future and having passion for getting BC
00:02:22.320 back to where people want to come here, want to invest here.
