00:19:03.940 for six years during the war in Afghanistan. So he's the longest running defence minister in a

00:20:55.740 yesterday he was telling me he was just at his granddaughter's wedding I have a

00:21:01.320 daughter in grade 3 so I got a long a long way to go I've been to a lot of

00:21:07.500 conservative conventions over my lifetime but I must say I have never been

00:21:12.360 at a gathering where there was so much optimism so much purpose and so much

00:21:17.040 confidence. And I look at what's happening in Ottawa. Yeah. There's no more powerful message

00:21:30.020 than the message of change. There's a message of change in the country. We look at what's

00:21:35.800 been happening in Ottawa. You know, it kind of reminds me of chat GBT, right? Because

00:21:41.420 You get the same robotic and inane answers no matter what you ask.

00:21:49.160 There's such great energy here in the hall today, and I know that there's a lot of important work to be done.

00:21:54.340 But, you know, we have over 30,000 people here.

00:23:11.660 And so I've been thinking a lot, thinking a lot about my future

00:23:14.640 and discussing this with my wife Nazine and family and friends back in Central Nova.

00:23:20.360 And so I figured there's no better place than here with all of you

00:23:24.940 I believe Pierre Poitier will be the next Prime Minister of Canada.

00:23:47.440 Canada, it is time. It's time to turn the page. It's time to undo the damage that the current

00:23:54.520 Liberal government has afflicted on Canadians now for the past eight years. It's time for new

00:23:59.760 leadership and a new government that actually puts people first. It's time, Canada, for a

00:24:05.600 conservative government led by Prime Minister Pierre Polyeve.

00:24:18.280 It is time to say no to the liberal toxic interference and to say no to their authoritarian

00:25:51.340 And Pierre Polievre is ready to deliver the change that Canadians seek.

00:25:56.440 With hard-working and dedicated members of his team, many whom are here, and with Conservatives

00:26:03.080 right across the country, I have every confidence that Pierre can do what Conservatives have

00:26:11.940 And that's build a more prosperous Canada, a more secure Canada, and a more united Canada.

00:26:18.240 But in order to do that, and if you remember nothing else that I've said here today, in

00:26:24.380 In order to build a united Canada, we must remain united as a Conservative Party.

00:26:42.060 And you know, I honestly feel that Canadians are still getting to know Pierre.

00:26:45.900 They're getting to know him with each passing day.

00:26:48.440 And in opposition, they see him as a fierce critic.

00:26:51.800 We see him as somebody who offers common sense, of course, and somebody who has real solutions

00:26:58.900 As a leader, they see a man filled with optimism and ideas, a leader who wants to make life

00:27:04.360 better and more affordable for Canadians.

00:27:07.460 And what makes me so optimistic standing here today, in spite of all of the challenges before

00:27:14.680 As I think about the history of the Conservative Party and movement, even going back well before

00:27:19.400 my time in the Conservative Party. As we have seen, Conservatives can capture the imagination

00:27:26.120 and the interest of Canadians. But never, never have I seen in my lifetime our party

00:27:33.720 capturing the imagination and appealing to so many young Canadians in Canada.

00:27:38.760 And, of course, that means people of all ages, people who are getting up there, like myself.

00:27:53.240 But despite what the pundits and the press might say, Pierre is connecting with young Canadians.

00:27:59.000 I met Esther and her sister Catherine, who are here from West Nova and Chris D'Entremont's riding.

00:28:04.120 She's here for her first convention and spending her 19th birthday in Quebec.

00:28:08.760 Pierre is connecting with people because he's talking about their hopes and their dreams

00:28:16.480 for the future and their future in Canada, about owning a home, about a well-paying job,

00:28:23.420 not having to worry about buying groceries or heating a home or apartment or the cost

00:28:29.560 These are real-life concerns, and Pierre is talking to young people in a way that we have

00:29:04.200 if you bought a coffee on the way you're paying carbon tax we all know the answer to that riddle

00:29:11.000 and so did every other canadian when they on july 1st saw the carbon tax imposed for the first time

00:29:18.280 and there's more coming let's not forget this is hammering canadians where they work

00:29:24.680 where they live and where they raise their families and so there's no policy better that

00:29:31.720 shows how out of touch with Canadians this Liberal government really is than this hated

00:29:38.120 Trudeau carbon tax.

00:29:40.660 This tax is particularly punitive, as we know, in rural parts of the country.

00:29:46.180 In Atlantic Canada, where I'm from, people have no choice but to drive their vehicles

00:29:51.660 to work in factories, in fields, in places of work.

00:29:55.840 They have no choice.

00:29:56.980 They don't have public transit.

00:29:59.420 They don't have alternative energy sources in many cases,

00:30:02.400 in rural parts of the country.

00:30:03.880 So it is again a divisive and punishing policy

00:30:11.640 The carbon tax increases the cost of everything.

00:30:19.700 is the cost of home heating fuel, propane,

00:30:24.280 Now I for one, coming from Atlantic Canada,

00:30:27.400 I sure wish we had an Energy East pipeline right now bringing good Canadian, safe, ethical

00:30:33.300 oil to Atlantic Canada to export to the world.

00:30:44.220 And you know the most ludicrous thing about this carbon tax is it doesn't lower emissions.

00:30:50.760 As Pierre has said many times, it's just a tax.

00:30:54.260 It's just another tax.

00:30:56.720 And to be clear, Pierre Polyev is not trying to impress pundits or Davos elites.

00:31:03.840 He thinks every day about what he can do to better the lives of Canadians in every corner

00:31:17.580 Ordinary people, who he says correctly, are not ordinary in any way.

00:31:39.340 and floods throughout our country those are real canadian heroes

00:31:42.940 and as the general said yesterday evening as they throw themselves in harm's way to protect

00:32:01.380 our citizens but coming back to what i believe pierre believes every day when he wakes up as

00:32:08.860 Prime Minister in the near future. He's thinking about how to get interest rates

00:32:13.660 down and wages up and how to make things more affordable generally. He won't be

00:32:20.320 fixated as the current Prime Minister is on making apologies on behalf of

00:32:25.260 Canadians, talking down our history, looking for a scapegoat to blame, deflect

00:32:30.640 and distract the incompetence of his own government and the problems that are

00:32:34.660 right in front of us.

00:32:36.500 Pierre is not a leader of symbolic gestures.

00:32:39.920 He knows that real results are what Canadians

00:32:42.360 are looking for most.

00:32:44.460 Pierre believes in equality of opportunity

00:32:46.480 and the rights and responsibilities of individuals.

00:33:06.920 It wasn't easier or harder to get a passport.

00:33:09.120 You couldn't get somebody on the line in a government office.

00:33:13.080 And so, there's something wrong, as Pierre says, there's something broken that needs

00:33:19.080 And you know, government is not the answer for every problem.

00:33:24.840 I'm reminded of a quote by another great conservative leader, the Right Honorable Robert Stanfield.

00:33:36.960 Rob, you certainly remember this.

00:33:39.560 He said, there is only so much that good government can do for a country,

00:33:44.200 but there is no limit to how much harm bad government can do to a country.

00:33:54.840 Truer words have never been spoken.

00:33:57.680 Pierre knows and believes that imposing punitive taxes on citizens and small business

00:34:01.520 takes away the incentive to work or grow a business or employ more Canadians or expand.

00:34:08.260 The best social program, as another great conservative, my friend and yours,

00:34:13.500 Jim Flaherty used to say, there is no greater program than a job.

00:34:18.780 It brings dignity and income and purpose to people's lives.

00:34:24.840 Now, unlike those other guys in the alliance, the NDP, Liberal Alliance, Pierre believed

00:34:32.840 in the rule of law, in individual freedoms, in free speech, accountability and transparency.

00:34:39.080 He believes in protecting the right to freedom of worship and assembly, association, as well

00:34:45.000 as the right to peaceful protest.

00:34:49.080 He will work, yes, and he will work with Canadians, not insult them.

00:34:59.420 He will show up and show compassion and listen to those who are struggling.

00:35:10.040 Quebecers are authentic people and they really like common sense.

00:35:16.760 No one will be surprised if I tell you that Justin Trudeau is completely out of touch

00:35:32.200 And as we say so well in French, he has lost his bearings, literally in French, the compass

00:35:39.600 has lost its north, he's out to lunch.

00:35:44.600 Quebecers are going to discover about Pierre Poilievre is the fact that he's a leader that understands the middle class, a leader with whom they actually share the same values of authenticity, common sense.

00:35:56.320 And he's really connected with the reality of Quebecers and Canadians. That is why Pierre Poilievre must become the Prime Minister of Canada.

00:36:14.600 You know, the Canadian Forces, of course, hold a special place in my heart, as it does

00:36:20.700 for all Canadians, and Pierre believes very strongly in our national defense, and of course

00:36:25.660 making smart investments in equipment and in training, as we did when we were in government.

00:36:32.740 We invested in large procurement projects that impacted as well on the military, but

00:36:38.380 also on the communities where that equipment is produced.

00:36:41.980 There is no better example than here in Quebec, at the Lévy shipyard, where they produced

00:36:48.540 the CS Asterix, the Joint Support Ship for the Navy, and guess what?

00:36:56.460 In good conservative fashion, it was built on time, on budget, and it's supplying the

00:37:01.420 Canadian Navy right now.

00:37:10.100 Pierre of course also believes in honouring veterans who served and protected us.

00:37:14.540 He believes that our natural environment is a vital part of our heritage, which is a lifeline

00:37:19.960 to the economy, to health and well-being.

00:37:22.620 These are not just Pierre's values, but those that are shared by thousands, millions of

00:37:27.740 Canadians across the country and the thousands who are in this hall.

00:37:34.140 Like you, Canadians want and crave and can't wait for a change in government.

00:43:03.140 And don't forget, it's also our party, when we form government, that recognise that Quebecers are a nation within Canada, a distinct nation within Canada.
