00:00:00.000 Do our security services and our officials, or our police officers, did they ever inform
00:00:12.820 the Prime Minister of Beijing's interference in our elections, yes or no, the right Honourable
00:00:20.560 Prime Minister?
00:00:22.460 As I've said many times, Mr. Speaker, our security and intelligence services and police
00:00:28.420 take the importance of fighting against foreign interference very seriously, including Chinese 1.00
00:00:34.180 interference.
00:00:35.180 But I can assure the member and all Canadians that in the 2019 and 2021 elections, there
00:00:44.380 was no foreign interference in a way that would have changed any of the results in any
00:00:50.540 significant way.
00:00:52.340 That's what the Independent Committee found.
00:00:55.680 The right Honourable Leader of the Opposition.
00:00:57.560 The Prime Minister has used words to obscure the answer.
00:01:02.640 He says there was not interference in a significant way that would have changed the outcome.
00:01:09.280 Was there any interference of any kind?
00:01:12.320 The right Honourable Prime Minister.
00:01:16.320 As our intelligence services have highlighted many times in many different forms for Canadians,
00:01:24.320 and Canadians' affairs by foreign powers is an ongoing thing, whether it's cyber interference,
00:01:29.400 whether it's interference with communities here in Canada, whether it's attempts to influence
00:01:35.240 the media.
00:01:36.040 These are things that go on on an ongoing basis and things that our intelligence agencies and
00:01:43.200 police agencies work very, very hard to counter.
00:01:47.280 But Canadians can be reassured that the integrity of our elections was not compromised.
00:01:52.280 Thanks.
00:01:53.280 The honourable Leader of the Opposition.
00:01:55.360 He still won't answer the question.
00:01:57.360 The question was specifically about whether intelligence, law enforcement, or public servants
00:02:05.160 briefed him or in any way informed him of any interference in any of our elections.
00:02:14.400 Mr. Speaker, back in 2019, we established a nonpartisan, independent group of top civil
00:02:29.400 servants and intelligence officials to ensure that the integrity of our elections would
00:02:35.980 not be compromised.
00:02:37.600 They watched and reported in the 2019 election, they watched and reported for the 2021 election,
00:02:43.720 and in both cases confirmed that the integrity of our elections was not compromised.
00:02:49.600 The Honourable Leader of the Opposition.
00:02:52.600 The question was not whether the election was compromised.
00:02:57.580 The question was whether officials in intelligence, law enforcement or the public service at any
00:03:05.880 time, informed the Prime Minister of allegations of any interference in our elections?
00:03:16.760 Yes or no?
00:03:18.760 The Right Honourable Prime Minister.
00:03:22.760 Mr. Speaker, the Member Opposite brought in the element of allegations of interference.
00:03:28.760 I can confirm, based on the news reports that a number of people have been remarking
00:03:34.640 on for the past number of weeks, that I have never gotten any information from any of our
00:03:41.640 security agencies or police officers or intelligence officials or public servants on any information
00:03:48.220 on anyone receiving, as a federal candidate, receiving money from China, as the allegations highlighted.
00:03:56.100 The Honourable Leader of the Opposition.
00:04:00.100 The question wasn't whether or not he heard allegations of money going to a candidate from
00:04:07.100 China.
00:04:08.100 Obviously, money doesn't travel on a big ship from the other side of the Pacific and then
00:04:14.560 go to the shore and then be delivered to a candidate.
00:04:17.740 That is obviously a denial of an absurdity.
00:04:21.420 The question is whether or not the Prime Minister ever got information from the public service,
00:04:28.480 the police or intelligence bodies on any interference of any kind by Beijing.
00:04:37.980 the right Honourable Prime Minister.
00:04:44.440 Mr. Speaker, I got a report back from our panel that was established, the experts established
00:04:52.820 in the national security agencies to report back on whether or not our elections were subject
00:05:01.180 to foreign interference, and they confirmed that the elections were held in full integrity.
00:05:09.640 The outcome was not impacted.
00:05:12.180 The Canadians can have full confidence in the integrity of our elections in 2019 and 2021.
