Pipeline protests have nothing to do with supporting the Wet’suwet’en people

Summary
In the wake of the protests against the Coastal Mountain pipeline, it's hard to argue that the opposition to the proposed pipeline is anything other than an attempt to stymie Canadian energy development. In fact, the opposition comes from the usual suspects, denizens of the far left wing of the political spectrum, who come out for whatever the cause du jour is.

The events of the last few days have changed entirely what I was going to talk to you about.
00:00:09.440
I saw a news story initially that Canada's fleet of four Victoria-class submarines were all in
00:00:15.000
dry dock for all of 2019 at a cost of over 371 million dollars. Not one of them even got their
00:00:23.080
keels wet last year. As insane as that sounds, and it does, it pales in comparison to the
00:00:30.120
government's poor handling of the protests supposedly in support of the Wet'suwet'en nation
00:00:36.600
and their hereditary chiefs in blocking the coastal mountain natural gas pipeline. As the
00:00:42.760
Prime Minister traipses around Africa and Europe, doling out millions for gender equity in countries
00:00:49.880
that jail or kill LGBT people, he has issued nothing but platitudes about dialogue between
00:00:57.720
interested parties and has literally done nothing about a crisis that is affecting the country's economy.
00:01:05.480
Firstly, whatever else the protesters try to convince you of, none of this has anything to
00:01:11.160
do with supporting the Wet'suwet'en people. The hereditary chiefs are not representative of the
00:01:16.600
Wet'suwet'en who along with 19 other First Nations groups along the pipeline route support the
00:01:24.360
development of the pipeline and stand to benefit greatly financially for their band members and
00:01:31.320
the bands as a whole from the project. Five of the 13 hereditary chiefs have formed a non-profit
00:01:38.440
company funded by the likes of the Tides Foundation and the Pembina Institute to protest this project.
00:01:45.560
In other words, it's part of the US funded effort to stymie Canadian energy projects and nothing more.
00:01:53.480
The support protests are little more than the usual suspects, denizens of the far left wing of the
00:02:00.920
political spectrum who come out for whatever the cause du jour is. And, as former NDP political
00:02:08.520
operative and consultant Brad Zubik noted on Twitter, 20 of 20 elected governments support the project,
00:02:17.240
as do 8 of 13 hereditary chiefs and 85 percent of the Wet'suwet'en people. These protesters are actually
00:02:24.840
opposed to the Wet'suwet'en. This is demonstrated in a Saturday story in the Vancouver Sun, talking to one of the
00:02:32.200
organizers of the so-called Solidarity Action Saturday protest at John Henry Park in East Vancouver.
00:02:39.800
Natalie Knight, trust me, no relation, said many of the folks behind the scenes met during the protest
00:02:47.640
during the 2010 Olympics. You can bet they went from that nonsensical bullcrap to the Occupy movement the
00:02:55.720
very next year and on and on it goes as left wing causes pop up. Why anyone gives these fools any credence
00:03:03.240
or attention is literally beyond me. Then there's CBC coverage calling it the Wet'suwet'en anti-pipeline
00:03:11.720
protests where the railway blockade is taking place at the Tyendinaga Reserve in Eastern Ontario, which has
00:03:19.880
essentially ground rail transport in this country to a halt. The government and the OPP have looked
00:03:26.440
paralyzed even after court injunctions were served to clear the line. As I talk to you, the Indigenous
00:03:33.560
Affairs Minister Mark Miller is heading to Belleville from his insulated white tower office in Ottawa to
00:03:41.160
have a quote dialogue unquote with the Mohawk band at the heart of the blockade. But to suggest this has
00:03:48.920
anything to do with the Wet'suwet'en people is pure nonsense. This is just the latest in a series of land
00:03:55.640
battles with the Mohawks going back decades and in many different locations. One of the Mohawk blockade
00:04:04.680
protesters said as much in a Globe and Mail interview when he blamed the police and CN Rail saying quote
00:04:11.160
we are polite nice with them and they don't comply he said. It's been that way for 500 years
00:04:18.760
unquote. 500 years? Right. So this really isn't supporting the blockade of the coastal mountain pipeline,
00:04:27.480
is it? It's all about decades of long perceived grievances, which in itself is rich really. The
00:04:35.560
Mohawks are part of the Iroquois nation. Pre-contact they were among the most violent warring tribes who
00:04:42.920
engaged in torture and cannibalism of primarily rivals like the Huron, the Narragansett and Algonquin tribes.
00:04:51.240
But these facts are ignored as they plead victimhood. One of the delicious ironies in all of this
00:04:57.960
is the areas who were responsible for electing this band of posers and incompetents are the ones being most
00:05:05.400
adversely affected by the rail blockade. An MP from the Maritines tweeted out that they get 85% of their propane
00:05:14.920
by rail and the shutdown of all services would have adverse effects within short order. I guess after voting
00:05:22.040
for the climate virtue signaling liberals they have yet to wean themselves off fossil fuels.
00:05:27.960
The GTA is the other area of ironic interest. Chlorine for their water treatment facilities is delivered by rail
00:05:36.280
and supplies are rapidly running out. Frankly, it serves them all right. For True North, I'm Leo Knight.
