Maxime Bernier and the People's Party of Canada are on a tour of Alberta, and on the road. One of the events featured an Indigenous policy announcement in which Bernier said he planned to rip up the Indian Act and put forward a new plan with Indigenous Canadians that would focus first and foremost on freedom.
00:02:11.320At the press conference, Bernier showcased his four Indigenous candidates, two from Alberta and two from Ontario,
00:02:17.840one of which said parties have been focusing too much on reconciliation without doing anything.
00:02:22.680He proposed a new path forward, which he called Reconcili Action.
00:02:26.580I spoke with Chief Bruno about what it was that brought him out to support Maxime Bernier and the People's Party.
00:02:32.520Well, I've looked at their Aboriginal Indigenous platform online and, you know, I think they're on the right track with a lot of what they're proposing.
00:02:45.780And, you know, that's to do away with the Indian Act, but also, you know, basically addressing Indigenous issues in general, right?
00:02:54.860And especially with the lack of clean drinking water and things like that.
00:02:59.120But not only that, too, you know, you've got to look at working together and, you know, joining forces and, you know, trying to come up with solutions.
00:03:08.800So that's why I like, you know, I like what they're talking about.
00:03:12.000Plus, too, the freedom part that resonates with me as well, because, you know, we lost our freedoms, you know, over the years.
00:03:18.360And a lot of people don't realize that.
00:03:21.400And so we've been living this for a good 150 years.
00:03:25.040You know, in Canada, you know, in general, has been only experiencing that last year or so.
00:03:31.060And so, you know, it's something that we're, we definitely know something about, you know.
00:03:35.900So with this idea of, you know, having, you know, freedoms and freedom of choice, especially, you know, that's what we've got to do, you know,
00:03:44.720is we've got to have that freedom of choice, not that taken away from us.
