00:00:00.000 Welcome everyone to Ratioed. My name is Harrison Faulkner. Well, I think it's pretty safe to assume
00:00:12.440 that if we were all asked to outline Canada's top national priorities, we'd land largely on the same
00:00:18.000 five key issues. Advancing racial equity, dismantling systemic racism, solving gender equity
00:00:25.620 in Canada, which as you all know is a very important issue, very serious, especially for
00:00:30.440 racialized women of color, solving climate change and the inherent racism within the climate change 0.98
00:00:35.980 debate, and lastly, reconciliation. And thankfully for all of us, our Prime Minister was on a very
00:00:41.640 serious, very important trilateral trip to Mexico last week and really carried the torch for all of
00:00:47.200 us at home, focusing his time especially on those important priorities that we just discussed. Thank
00:00:52.940 God he wasn't talking about other issues in Canada, right? Like affordability or opioid overdoses,
00:00:57.500 really focusing his time on the issues that matter. Stick around for the Ratio of the Week,
00:01:01.240 drop a like in the video, help us out by subscribing to the True North YouTube channel,
00:01:04.540 and the common question for the episode is this, and in all seriousness, what really should be the
00:01:10.060 federal government's top priority in 2023? All right, let me know and let's get into it.
00:01:13.960 The amount of time members of this Canadian government and the Prime Minister spend around
00:01:17.900 the world preaching diversity, preaching equity, preaching inclusion, and preaching wokeness,
00:01:22.140 it's absurd. It's as if this is the key national priority for this government.
00:01:26.980 Watch as Justin Trudeau, while in Mexico City, preach to Mexicans and Americans about how Canadians
00:01:32.820 are somehow pleased to see Mexicans building a more diverse, inclusive, and equal society.
00:01:38.900 Well, I hate to break it to our Mexican amigos down south, but us Canadians up here really don't
00:01:42.480 care about how equal or racially diverse your country is. Last time I checked the news, it turns out
00:01:48.100 your country has some other more important issues to worry about than advancing racial equity. But
00:01:53.380 nonetheless, here's Justin Trudeau telling Mexicans what Canadians are pleased about. 0.90
00:01:58.880 Canada is pleased to have our Mexican and American friends committed so strongly to protecting clean air,
00:02:06.940 clean water, and a brighter future. Canada is also pleased to see all three countries take steps
00:02:14.480 towards building a more diverse, equal, and inclusive society. A society where there is opportunity for
00:02:22.820 everyone. Where women and girls are politically and economically empowered, including Indigenous
00:02:28.780 women and girls.
00:02:30.260 Love the comments on this video too, like this one here. I'm in Mexico, and other than the tourists,
00:02:35.480 there's literally zero diversity. This person writes, isn't this an economic meeting? That's what you
00:02:40.380 thought, right? It's billed as an economic meeting, but no, no, no, don't worry. Justin Trudeau, Joe Biden,
00:02:45.760 they're really focused on the issues that matter. And you'll stick around and you'll see exactly what
00:02:49.640 I'm talking about. And this person has the perfect comment to all of this. As long as you're not a 1.00
00:02:53.880 Canadian trucker, then it's the gulag for you. Well, if any of you only thought I had one little video
00:02:58.680 example to show you of Justin Trudeau really fighting for Canada's top priorities while in Mexico,
00:03:03.660 well, you'd be sorely mistaken because take a look at this. Canada's foreign affairs minister,
00:03:07.900 Melanie Jolie, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and their Mexican counterpart, again,
00:03:13.860 really taking the issues of the day by the horns, grabbing the issues by the horns, and just really
00:03:18.980 solving the problems that are facing all of us, facing Mexicans, facing Americans, and facing
00:03:23.620 Canadians every day. That, of course, being racial equity. Dismantling systemic racism. Thank God,
00:03:29.420 they're really, really fighting for Canadian issues. Take a look at what Melanie Jolie posted on
00:03:34.500 Twitter a couple days ago. Dismantling systemic racism and combating discrimination and hate are
00:03:39.980 paramount responsibilities for Canada, the USA, and Mexico. With the signing of the Declaration for
00:03:46.080 Racial Equity and Inclusion, we will work together to build a more inclusive region. Thank you so much,
00:03:52.780 Melanie Jolie. Dismantling systemic racism. Combating hate and discrimination. Just exactly what the
00:03:59.240 Mexicans needed right at this very moment. Not like they were in a literal war zone right now.
00:04:20.480 And when we're looking at this, we have to pay close attention to the words that are used by the
00:04:24.640 government in their press release. We always talk about it on this show, but it bears repeating.
00:04:29.360 Equity. When the government uses the word equity, that is another word for racism, but racism against
00:04:35.980 the right group of people. It's always important to call that out because when the government says
00:04:40.540 we're here to dismantle systemic racism by advancing equity, what they're really saying is we need to
00:04:46.840 discriminate against one group of people who, in our eyes, historically had it better than another
00:04:51.560 group of people so we can have some sort of level playing field. Hate to break it to you,
00:04:55.500 government, but that's just racism. Take a look at what's in this government press release for the
00:04:59.820 declaration of racial equity and inclusion. Work within our own countries to affirmatively advance
00:05:06.480 equity and racial justice and to comprehensively root out the barriers to equal opportunity that
00:05:13.100 marginalized communities continue to face. Affirmatively advance racial equity and racial justice.
00:05:19.540 Hmm. I wonder how they're going to do that. Might it have to do something with
00:05:22.440 discriminating against? Oh, don't say it, but I think you all know who I'm talking about.
00:05:26.960 It goes on. Establish a trilateral racial equity and inclusion expert network to facilitate the
00:05:33.880 exchange of information to share best practices and innovative strategies developed across our three
00:05:39.680 countries for advancing equity and racial justice in our public policies and societies. I'll spare you the 0.99
00:05:45.920 rest of the press release because you've already got the picture. The rest of it is some sort of
00:05:49.420 word salad regurgitated by some first year gender studies major who thinks they're really solving the
00:05:54.860 world's problems. Way to go, staffer. Nothing screams Canada is a serious country like having our prime
00:06:00.500 minister go down to Mexico, a country in a literal civil war, and telling them that Canada's priority
00:06:05.840 for Mexico is about advancing racial equity. Good stuff, guys. Awesome. The comments on Melanie
00:06:11.160 Jolie's tweet are absolutely ruthless, like this one here, like at Justin Trudeau and blackface.
00:06:15.920 Yeah, I don't know if Justin Trudeau's blackface instances really kind of go in line with Canada's
00:06:21.160 commitments to solving racial equity, but I'll leave that up to you guys to decide. Thanks for this.
00:06:25.800 I have to walk to food bank as I'm out of food and can't gas up my car either. Oh, don't worry about
00:06:30.440 that. We're solving the real issues. Your issues about food? Your issues about gas prices? Come on.
00:06:37.200 It's time to be more racially diverse. It's time to advance equity. That means putting your problems
00:06:43.020 aside to solve other people's problems. And this person writes here, Canadians can't feed their
00:06:47.800 families and you're playing theater in Mexico. Get serious already. All this trip really is, is a
00:06:52.940 chance for Justin Trudeau and his cabinet to take photos with their heroes from the United States, the
00:06:57.800 U.S. President and the Secretary of State. I mean, look at how giddy Marco Menichino looks standing beside
00:07:02.700 the U.S. Attorney General. It's embarrassing. It's pathetic. Oh, and while they're there, not to mention,
00:07:08.840 of course, anything serious going on in Canada, not to mention anything serious actually going on in the
00:07:13.040 United States either. What they're really there for is to talk about gender diversity and racial
00:07:18.060 equity. Oh, and just like the U.S. legacy media, just like the Canadian legacy media, our prime minister
00:07:24.720 just can't get Donald Trump out of his mouth. They can't stop talking about Donald Trump. Even years
00:07:30.500 after he's out of the picture, even when the Canadian prime minister could be talking about issues that
00:07:34.260 matter to Canadians, he still manages to be taking shots at Donald Trump. A few years ago, you may
00:07:40.520 remember, there were those who attempted to throw the certainty of our trading relationship into disarray.
00:07:48.380 Motivated by protectionist, isolationist, and nativist politics, they were willing to put millions of
00:07:57.480 jobs at stake in each of our countries. We all held fast to our belief that in the face of economic
00:08:05.300 uncertainty, growth doesn't come by turning inwards and putting up walls. It comes from welcoming new
00:08:13.040 opportunities, opening up to workers and investors, making economic activity easier, not harder.
00:08:21.000 Here we go. Ratio of the week time. And I'm not sure if we've ever given the award to Rachel Gilmore
00:08:26.240 over at Global News. But you know what? She's winning the award now. I'm starting to lose count.
00:08:30.880 And like I said before, we say it all the time on the show, the ratio of the week award is not some
00:08:35.180 easy prize. It's not some gimme, right? I mean, you have to really try. You have to beat out Omar 0.88
00:08:39.760 Al-Gabra, the king of the ratio. You have to beat Jagmeet Singh, who always puts up numbers week after
00:08:44.180 week. Heck, even the prime minister sometimes gets in on the mix and gets himself up into the high
00:08:49.460 rankings for the ratio of the week. But Rachel Gilmore is the clear winner this week for this
00:08:54.080 absolutely just perfect tweet here. Take a look at this. Journalists are under attack,
00:08:59.120 especially if they're racialized and or women. Ah, now Justin Trudeau's priorities are kind of
00:09:04.440 making more sense. The goal is to silence us. So thank you, Teresa, for speaking up. And so she
00:09:10.040 quote tweets some woman here, I guess another journalist who, you know, talks about the really 0.95
00:09:14.900 awful piece of hate mail she just received, the really damaging, scary piece of hate mail that she
00:09:20.260 received. Now, listen, this is the reality with journalism. I don't like to call myself a
00:09:24.000 journalist. I don't consider myself to be one, but I work in media and anyone who puts their face out
00:09:28.600 there, anyone who puts their ideas out there and anyone who works in this field knows that they
00:09:32.900 receive daily hate mail all the time. They receive nasty tweets. They receive mean comments. They
00:09:39.560 receive emails to the company talking about how bad you are at your job. It's just what happens in
00:09:44.860 this space. If you can't handle it, then get out. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.
00:09:49.780 It's pretty straightforward, right? But no, of course it needs to be made into a big ordeal.
00:09:54.920 It needs to be made into a big example of how racialized women journalists really face the brunt 1.00
00:10:00.260 of attacks. It needs to be used to justify censoring online content. Why do we think that people like
00:10:06.120 Marco Mendicino end up popping up at these journalists under fire events? It's pretty obvious
00:10:11.160 what they're doing here. They're trying to justify controlling comment sections and putting more
00:10:15.940 constraints on the internet. And of course, I think a lot of people see right through that at this
00:10:19.640 point. And that is exactly why Rachel Gilmore got brutally ratioed for this tweet. Take a look at 1.00
00:10:23.840 this. 1,239 replies, 738 likes. A perfect ratio to send us off this week. Not true when the solution
00:10:32.540 is super duper easy. Oh, could it be, you know, telling the truth? Oh, I don't know if it's that easy.
00:10:39.400 Is it? Is it that easy? It's always about race and gender. It always does come back to race and
00:10:44.660 gender, doesn't it? Whether it's Rachel Gilmore on Global News, whether it's Justin Trudeau in Mexico
00:10:48.720 or it's Melanie Jolie, somehow the messages always come together about advancing racial equity,
00:10:54.560 about advancing and dismantling systemic racism. Last comment here, you can't tweet without getting
00:11:00.080 ratioed. Curious considering how popular you say you are. All right, everyone, that's going to do
00:11:04.720 it for us this week on the show. Thank you so much for tuning in. My name is Harrison Faulkner
00:11:08.620 and this is Ratio.
