00:00:00.000The way you line up at Tim Hortons, you know, there were no workers.
00:00:04.560They came to PEI because they found out that the rules were flexible, was easy for them.
00:00:09.200That is the province, the government of the province's responsibility as they accept more people into the island to provide housing for them.
00:00:16.260I think that high schoolers trying to get jobs and stuff, they just don't exist for people from around here.
00:00:21.520Do you feel like the government in Prince Edward Island is turning their backs on islanders?
00:00:30.000Harrison Faulkner reporting from Charlottetown for day two of our coverage of the ongoing Charlottetown migrant protest.
00:00:41.200We don't really have a name for this protest yet, but it has captured the country's attention.
00:00:47.320And Charlottetown, through all of this, has now become the battleground for Canada's ongoing mass immigration debate.
00:00:53.380On the second day, we heard there was going to be some counter-protesters show up.
00:00:57.720Well, it wasn't necessarily a counter-protest, but we did manage to find some people who are from the outside of Charlottetown who came in to have their voices heard, to have their side of the story listened to.
00:01:08.860The legacy media, while they're only talking to the people who are protesting, they're only getting one side of the story.
00:01:14.300And from the media that we've seen, they are well and truly on the side of international students.
00:01:20.280But we are able to speak with some islanders who come from out of town who have a completely different perspective on how this island is changing due to mass immigration.
00:01:29.740And what is going on here in the province with these absurd policies that are changing the nature of Prince Edward Island?
00:01:38.540Take a listen to what Sir the Man to say.
00:01:40.200One of the things that people don't realize is that, you know, there may be some folks here in Charlottetown that are, you know, all for this stuff that's going on.
00:01:47.280But you really only need to go a little bit outside of the city to realize that, you know, not that people are against these people at all, because I'm not at all.
00:01:54.420I've, you know, I have no problem with anybody.
00:01:56.820The problem here is PEI, like the lady you interviewed last night, said PEI's full.
00:02:02.460There's no space for anybody on this island.
00:02:04.640You know, she accidentally said that, but like, we're tapped out, you know.
00:02:09.020And I'm not saying, you know, never bring immigration back to Canada or anything like that.
00:02:14.060I'm just saying we need to fix the problems here.
00:02:16.780And all the jobs here on the island are going to people who aren't even from here.
00:02:20.780If, you know, for the most part, if you don't have a family that has a business, your kids probably aren't going to, you know, think about high schoolers trying to get jobs and stuff.
00:02:28.800They just don't exist for people from around here because of the ridiculous program that the government put into place here.
00:02:35.800Canada needs to be dealt with first, handled first.
00:02:38.100We need to get our finances back on track.
00:02:39.880Our veterans, my God, our veterans, we hear stories of them all the time, you know, men killing themselves because they just, they can't, they can't continue to go on.
00:04:41.200And the province actually made some, a lot of flexible rules in order to bring me more workers.
00:04:46.940When you line up at Team Hottons, you know, there were, there were no workers.
00:04:50.880They came to PEI because they found out that the rules were flexible, what's easy for them to stay back in this community.
00:04:57.980And they've done nothing wrong than walk and stay back in the community.
00:05:01.500Do you think that they would come to PEI if the rules were tougher?
00:05:06.580Like, do you think they didn't get here because they like PEI or because the PEI rules were easier to get?
00:05:11.260Well, I would, I'll give you an instance.
00:05:12.880In Ontario, there are thousands of immigrants as well, okay.
00:05:16.060And they said Ontario has tougher rules.
00:05:18.200What kind of jobs do they do in the island and what do they do to make the island better?
00:05:22.300Well, they work in service industries, food, sales, things that were really essential to us, especially during COVID.
00:05:29.620Like, we needed these people to deliver food to us, our deliveries from the grocery stores.
00:05:35.360A lot of them were very essential in helping with those things, as well as other industries as well.
00:05:40.800There's service industries like tech, the IT industry, for example, where a lot of them really thrive in that as well.
00:05:47.200And I think each and every industry, no matter how small, contributes to the growth of the island, whether it's economically or in other ways.
00:05:56.140How do you think the rapid population growth in this province through international students?
00:06:00.920Many of them said that they were originally international students.
00:06:04.480How do you think that has contributed to the housing problems faced in the province?
00:06:07.740Well, obviously, as the population grows, there will be need for more housing.
00:06:13.520I think that that is the province, the government of the province's responsibility, as they accept more people into the island, to provide housing for them.
00:06:21.440Well, these protesters, they don't have a short memory.
00:06:24.640Well, it was only really one day, of course, but they knew who I was.
00:08:15.960the target centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre centre.
