J.K. Rowling pushes back against the woke left, and then she gets cancelled by the woke left.
00:00:04.780
The Trudeau government admits they're looking into raising the carbon tax
00:00:07.940
just two months after an election campaign where they pledged not to do so.
00:00:11.700
And it's Christmas time, so we're going to talk about the most under-reported story in the world,
00:00:17.920
I'm Candace Malcolm, and this is The Candace Malcolm Show.
00:00:26.800
We're really looking forward to Christmas Day tomorrow, and before we get into that, though,
00:00:31.340
there's a couple of news stories that I really wanted to talk about.
00:00:33.760
First things first, J.K. Rowling tweeted out the following and caused a huge, huge stir online.
00:00:42.140
Dress however you please. Call yourself whatever you like.
00:00:45.280
Sleep with any consenting adult who will have you.
00:00:47.900
Live your best life in peace and security, but force women out of their job for stating that sex is real?
00:00:53.180
Hashtag I stand with Maya. Hashtag this is not a drill.
00:00:57.260
So the famous author of the Harry Potter series, who herself is a leftist,
00:01:01.760
who herself has constantly been promoting mass migration, open borders, against Brexit, you name it.
00:01:09.020
You know, she's on top of the social justice issues.
00:01:12.020
But on this issue, I was actually really surprised to see J.K. Rowling take the opposite perspective
00:01:16.760
and sort of turn a little bit on the sort of woke left here.
00:01:21.060
And so what this story is about is a woman named Maya Forstater.
00:01:25.940
Maya was fired from her job for basically pushing back against the woke culture
00:01:30.260
and standing up for traditional feminist rights.
00:01:33.500
Now, because of that, she gets called the sort of defamatory term TERF,
00:01:38.180
which stands for trans-exclusionary radical feminist.
00:01:41.580
It's sort of a slur that trans people throw towards feminists who are not completely in line
00:01:46.060
with their sort of latest iteration of LGBTQ rights.
00:01:51.200
And what this story is all about, though, it's not about gender identity.
00:01:54.580
It's not about people who wish to say that they identify as a woman,
00:01:59.520
even though they were born biologically as a man.
00:02:04.100
And so it's not just gender that we're debating about anymore.
00:02:10.240
And so Maya, she calls herself a feminist test case.
00:02:15.080
I lost my job over tweeting and writing about sex and gender identity
00:02:18.420
and sharing campaign material about the negative impacts
00:02:21.260
of a proposed policy of gender self-ID on women and girls.
00:02:26.120
I'm now taking the organization I worked for to the employment tribunal
00:02:32.760
So the ruling came out on Friday and it came out originally against Maya.
00:02:41.300
To most people watching, this is just way over the top.
00:02:44.520
It's pretty common sense that, sure, you can identify as a different gender if you want,
00:02:52.560
Well, not according to this UK judge who's just set a precedent
00:02:56.980
And you even have someone who's on the left and of the left, J.K. Rowling,
00:03:06.780
Now, you can see from J.K. Rowling's tweet, she has quite a bit of support.
00:03:12.800
But, I mean, you just sort of start scrolling through the replies here.
00:03:22.460
against some of the more absurd arguments that they're making.
00:03:26.760
So, really, you know, in some ways, this is a good sign
00:03:30.700
because it shows that even people like J.K. Rowling,
00:03:35.600
is, you know, kind of had enough of the whole shtick
00:03:37.880
of forcing and coercing people to say things that are not true,
00:03:44.920
But then, on the other hand, looking at some of the replies here,
00:03:48.280
whew, wow, pretty mad, pretty crazy, crazy times.
00:03:54.120
So, this is a story exclusive over at TNC.news.
00:04:01.060
So, the Trudeau government, Trudeau's new environment minister,
00:04:04.620
was over in Madrid at the climate conference over there
00:04:12.140
of what the Trudeau government has been saying all along,
00:04:14.320
which is basically saying that the Trudeau government
00:04:16.280
is now looking into raising carbon taxes on Canadians.
00:04:20.260
And not just that, but also cancelling some of the rebates
00:04:22.860
that Canadians are supposed to be getting from that carbon tax.
00:04:27.340
Justin Trudeau's government is slashing carbon tax rebates
00:04:29.460
and provinces pushing back against the federal carbon tax.
00:04:32.260
The new environmental minister is also not ruling out
00:04:34.580
an increase to the carbon tax just two months after the federal election.
00:04:38.200
Justin Trudeau's mandate letter to Minister Jonathan Wilkinson
00:04:40.620
says the new minister should be strengthening existing
00:04:43.740
and introducing new greenhouse gas reduction measures
00:04:52.640
So, you know, I'm old enough to remember, what, three months ago
00:04:55.920
when the conservatives were accusing the Trudeau liberals
00:04:58.480
of hiding the fact that they were going to be increasing the carbon tax,
00:05:02.460
saying that it's inevitable that they would have to raise the carbon tax
00:05:07.780
And the mainstream media pushing back and basically saying
00:05:10.040
the conservatives are lying, the conservatives are being disingenuous.
00:05:16.300
new conservative party ad accused of deceiving Canadians over the carbon tax.
00:05:20.480
Well, it turns out that it was the liberals and the Trudeau government
00:05:23.560
that were deceiving Canadians and not the conservatives, as the media claimed.
00:05:30.000
Well, that's what you can expect from the mainstream media, completely dishonest.
00:05:36.720
A Canadian grain retailer was charged over $10,000 in federal carbon taxes, over $10,000.
00:05:50.320
It was charged $10,267.71 on an energy bill that was $46,382, which is about 20%.
00:06:00.060
That, you know, this is the cost that businesses are bearing.
00:06:04.220
And you better believe that those costs are going to be passed on to the consumers,
00:06:09.900
Just like so many conservatives, so many people like myself warned about that a carbon tax
00:06:14.580
is a tax on everything because so many things within the economy get taxed, get passed along.
00:06:19.340
So whether it's something like this, this business focuses on grain and drying grain,
00:06:28.400
It's also anything that gets shipped, anything that's getting transported across the country.
00:06:32.460
You know, you think of manufacturers or anything that has to keep a facility heated and lit.
00:06:38.500
Really, it's hard to over-exaggerate how much the carbon tax impacts every aspect of the economy.
00:06:43.840
So sure, there are rebates, as I just mentioned, though.
00:06:46.320
The Trudeau government is looking to reduce those rebates.
00:06:48.460
And it's not like they're doing it to balance the budget.
00:06:50.540
No, as we reported last week, the budget deficit is spiraling out of control,
00:06:54.880
and there is no end in sight to the borrowing from the Trudeau government.
00:07:01.580
Every year at Christmas, I write my Toronto Sun column about what I think is the most underreported story in the world,
00:07:07.480
which is the persecution of Christians worldwide.
00:07:10.680
You know, many people think of Christians as being, you know, the people who live in Europe and North America
00:07:15.200
who are affluent and prosperous and free, and they don't think about Christian suffering.
00:07:20.600
But the world reports every single year come out and say the same thing,
00:07:24.960
that Christians are the most persecuted group on the planet.
00:07:30.600
Although, you know, even in places like Europe, Christians are targeted.
00:07:34.560
There's been attacks by Islamist terrorists against Christmas markets, against churches.
00:07:39.820
Surely, you know, across North America, there is discrimination against Christians
00:07:44.460
as sort of the ties are turning and people are becoming more and more anti-Christian.
00:07:48.900
But then there is also very, very real and intense persecution around the world.
00:07:55.020
Back in 2017, on Palm Sunday, Islamic State militants waged a callous attack against Coptic Christians
00:08:03.540
Two suicide bombers struck, killing 44 people in one of the deadliest blasts.
00:08:12.620
Just a couple of weeks ago, in Burkino Faso, which is a small African nation bordering Mali,
00:08:21.440
On Sunday, December 1st, assailants attacked a small church near the border of Niger and Mali.
00:08:32.120
as well as 13 congregants, which included five children.
00:08:36.080
So, like I said, these attacks happen with some frequency.
00:08:40.880
I've written extensively about an attack on a Christian woman, a villager named Asia Bibi.
00:08:47.240
And Bibi was accused of drinking water from a cup that belonged to a Muslim person.
00:08:52.880
She was confronted by a mob who angrily demanded that she convert to Islam or be killed.
00:08:59.140
And because of that, she was arrested and given a death sentence in prison for blasphemy,
00:09:06.280
Well, fortunately for Bibi, she was acquitted from the high court in Pakistan,
00:09:13.680
So, she is now living safely in Canada after a lot of pressure and a lot of outcry.
00:09:21.380
As True North reported, shortly after she arrived in Canada,
00:09:25.840
an Islamist from Pakistan posted a video on social media claiming that he was in Canada
00:09:33.460
But, again, it's really, really worth noting and contemplating that Christians are under siege
00:09:40.560
You know, one of the examples I'd like to point to is in the Middle East,
00:09:43.980
the sort of biblical homeland of Christians, a historic home.
00:09:49.000
it's estimated that about one in five people in the Middle East region was a Christian.
00:09:56.980
We had about 20% of the population being Christian with large, vibrant Christian communities
00:10:00.940
in countries like Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Jordan, Iran, Turkey, you name it.
00:10:07.040
And the society used to be much more pluralistic, much more tolerant,
00:10:14.340
There's been a rise of a very violent extremist strain of Islam
00:10:20.600
And because of it, the Christian population today in the Middle East
00:10:25.620
So, it went from one in five 100 years ago to less than 4% today.
00:10:30.360
And in some of those countries I mentioned, like both Iran and Turkey,
00:10:37.600
So, you know, basically there's no Christians and no Jews
00:10:41.460
and no non-Muslims left in those countries, which is incredibly sad.
00:10:45.680
Christians have been the victim of ethnic cleansing,
00:10:48.100
of targeting killings, and of genocide in that part of the world.
00:10:51.360
That's something that you just very rarely hear about.
00:10:56.100
But Christians are under siege and under attack around the world.
00:10:58.620
So, this year at Christmas, while we're enjoying the festive time of year,
00:11:02.000
enjoying, you know, time with our friends and our family and our loved ones,
00:11:05.140
we should also commit to doing better, to stand up for Christians around the world.
00:11:09.700
There's so many different ways that we can do that.
00:11:11.560
In Canada, you can donate funds to Christian groups
00:11:14.200
that help give aid to other Christians around the world.
00:11:17.740
You can pressure the government, pressure our politicians to stand up
00:11:21.340
and raise these important issues on the global stage.
00:11:24.820
Or also, there's, you know, opportunities to bring Christians to Canada.
00:11:28.740
There's a private refugee program that allows private groups,
00:11:32.660
like churches and charities, to come together and privately sponsor people into the country.
00:11:38.240
You should consider looking into that with your church or with a group of friends
00:11:42.140
to help save Christians that are being persecuted around the world.
00:11:48.560
Thank you so much for tuning in, and we will see you later this week.
