A female journalist is assaulted by anti-conservative protesters and the mainstream media
00:00:05.020
completely ignore it. Alberta conservatives carve out a new path for confederation.

The woke left ruins Hockey Night in Canada and a community comes together to support the family
00:00:14.820
of a child with cancer in Ottawa. I'm Candice Malcolm and this is The Candice Malcolm Show.
00:00:24.460
Hi everyone, we're coming to you from Calgary, Alberta this week for a special podcast. We were
00:00:29.040
here over the weekend to cover the Alberta Conservative Party's AGM. We have an interview
00:00:34.400
set down with Premier Kenney to talk about his plan for the province of Alberta and for Canada.
00:00:39.880
You can catch that over at tnc.news. Now while we were at this convention, at this conference,
00:00:46.580
we bumped into our friend Sheila Gunn-Reed. Sheila is a conservative journalist over at The Rebel.
00:00:52.160
She was outside where there was a protest. Union members had been bused in to protest
00:00:58.540
against Jason Kenney and some of his austerity measures that he's bringing in in Alberta.
00:01:03.900
And this was the confrontation that was caught on tape.
00:01:13.540
So it's pretty clear that the male protester here strikes Sheila Gunn-Reed. He hits her in the back.
00:01:20.840
It's caught right there on camera. And yet the mainstream media have completely ignored
00:01:25.840
that this incident happened. If you look at the news stories that came out of the convention over
00:01:31.060
the weekend, even the news stories about the protest, they didn't even so much as mention
00:01:36.780
the fact that a journalist was hit by one of the protesters. It was not a peaceful protest.
00:01:42.360
It was a violent protest. And that is a huge distinction. You know, in Canada, we have the
00:01:46.700
right to peaceful assembly. We have the right to freedom of speech. You have the right to protest
00:01:50.260
politicians as much as you want. But you have to do it peacefully. And once you start assaulting
00:01:55.020
journalists and hitting people, it's no longer a peaceful protest. So for all the journalists
00:01:59.220
that were there covering the protests and to just ignore the incident, you know, you had all the
00:02:03.540
mainstream media there. They were filming the protesters. Why didn't they catch this? The
00:02:07.460
police were there. Why didn't the police go and look into this and investigate it? It's really
00:02:11.260
alarming. And to explain why people are so upset about this, just imagine for a second that there
00:02:16.500
was a group of conservative protesters outside of an NDP convention. And a CBC journalist went out to
00:02:23.120
interview them and talk to them, maybe even push back and challenge them a little bit on what they
00:02:27.700
were doing. Imagine the outrage if one of those conservative protesters had struck and hit a
00:02:33.980
female journalist. It would be the biggest story in the country. It would be the subject of a huge
00:02:39.300
campaign. There'd be outrage. There'd be outcries. Politicians would be tweeting about it. It would be
00:02:44.160
the biggest news story in Canada. But for some reason, when it happens to Sheila Gunn-Reed at the
00:02:49.380
rebel, nobody pays attention. And that's a big problem in Canada. We covered it at TNC.news. I
00:02:55.580
interviewed Sheila. But that's not enough. Shame on the mainstream media for ignoring it. And let me
00:03:01.660
just say, I was at the convention. I didn't see the protests. I wasn't there when it was happening.
00:03:06.820
The stories about it made it seem like it was this huge all-day thing that distracted away from the AGM
00:03:12.780
itself. It wasn't. It was barely noticed by the people who were at the convention. I didn't see them.
00:03:18.360
I was there all day. I didn't see them. They came quickly and left. It was cold outside, whatever.
00:03:22.840
But the fact that the mainstream media is more focused on a couple of protesters who were, let's
00:03:27.820
be honest, paid to be there, as opposed to the hundreds, probably a thousand members of the AGM
00:03:35.840
that were participating in democracy, that were putting forth ideas, that were debating the future
00:03:40.320
of the province of Alberta and the country. It just shows where the media is minded. They don't really
00:03:45.500
care about the progress being made within the governing party. They just care about the few
00:03:49.580
angry people outside because that's the narrative. I was very pleased to sit down with Premier Jason
00:03:55.320
Kenney. He talked about his Fair Deal plan. I think that the vision for Canada and what it should be
00:04:00.880
is a very decentralized country. We have regions that are really distinct. What's good for people
00:04:07.360
in Quebec is not necessarily the same as what's good for people in BC, Alberta or other provinces.
00:04:11.400
So why not have the provinces have more and more control? That's sort of what the Fair Deal
00:04:17.280
does. It basically says, you know, to Ottawa, if we don't have these certain conditions met
00:04:22.740
with pipelines being built, with allowing our resources to get to market without a fair deal
00:04:28.160
on equalization, you know, these are the number of things that we want to do. We're going to start
00:04:32.680
collecting our own taxes. So no longer use the CRA and collect taxes locally in Alberta. We'll have
00:04:39.620
our own police force, our own pension plan, and I think that's huge. And one of the things I would
00:04:43.860
like to see if Alberta does bring in its own pension plan is to actually get rid of the scheme
00:04:48.500
of a Ponzi scheme, like the Canada pension plan, where everyone just pays in and you don't really
00:04:53.860
know exactly how much you're ever going to get out. You don't have good returns. It's not a really
00:04:57.780
meaningful investment program. That's why people my age and younger can basically never expect to get
00:05:03.300
anything out of the CPP. It's basically just a big waste of money for us, a slush fund going to older
00:05:08.580
generations. So if Alberta does take that over, hopefully, you know, it will focus more on making
00:05:14.100
it fair for young people and for everyone who is paying into it. And I think that this plan,
00:05:20.020
if it's actualized, will strengthen Canada. You know, instead of Alberta leaving, going it alone,
00:05:26.100
let's just give them a lot more power to manage their own business and put Albertans first.
00:05:32.580
So, you know, a lot of momentum, pretty exciting stuff. The media is obsessed with the fact that
00:05:37.620
the left and the unions are accusing the premier in Alberta of making cuts, cutting, you know, nursing
00:05:43.380
and teachers and that kind of thing. You know, I think that's pretty misrepresentative of what's
00:05:48.980
happening. From my understanding, the premier is not cutting those programs. He's just capping them,
00:05:54.180
so they're not growing. And the jobs that are being shed are, it's going to happen through attrition,
00:05:59.300
like someone's retiring. And so the position is not going to be replaced, as opposed to actually
00:06:02.900
firing people, which is what the left would have you believe. So lots of misinformation I'm finding
00:06:07.620
while being here in Alberta, that the left is really, you know, instead of putting out the facts
00:06:11.860
as they are, they're sort of distorting them and spinning it. And the media is all too happy to go
00:06:16.420
along with that. All right, moving on. Hockey Night in Canada happened over the weekend. We know that
00:06:20.100
Don Cherry is no longer a part of this program. And so they have a new kind of
00:06:23.620
reimagined left wing hockey night in Canada. Okay, so Ron McClain is a new host. He has some new co-hosts
00:06:29.140
here. And you can see that they're trying really hard to be diverse and representative of different
00:06:33.940
communities. But hearing Ron McClain kind of like talk about exactly the kinds of things that the woke
00:06:39.380
left wants you to say, like acknowledging that he believes he has white privilege, that he was sort of
00:06:44.900
so blind to his own white privilege, that he wasn't doing a good enough job, including people from
00:06:50.260
different races and different ethnicities in his programming. And he says that that is an example
00:06:55.460
of systemic racism. You know, I don't see you as black. I don't see Tara as a woman. And then I
00:07:01.380
realized there's your white male privilege. You know what, Ron, you don't have to see that because you
00:07:05.460
don't need to see that. And you told me, Kwame, an amazing story about when the kids throw back to
00:07:10.660
Hockey Night in Canada, as a general rule, they're often all white. And if they're not all white, the whites
00:07:15.860
often have the speaking part. And it's the same with our Rogers Hometown Hockey. We're so proud of
00:07:20.020
being inclusive. But how many times do we get people of color to pick the three stars? And
00:07:25.620
it was just a real eye opener that I don't recognize the structural racism or sexism.
00:07:31.700
It's just it's just so cringeworthy to watch a sport like hockey. You know, you watch hockey to relax,
00:07:36.820
to disengage from all of the crazy politics of the world. And to be sitting there, you know,
00:07:41.780
trying to enjoy a hockey game and to all of a sudden be lectured about identity politics and
00:07:46.820
supposedly not being inclusive enough. Why? Because of the skin color of the kids that they're
00:07:51.780
interviewing or the kids that get to read out the three stars at the end of the hockey game.
00:07:56.820
They're so obsessed with race. It's to the point where it is racist itself. Like to hear Ron McLean
00:08:02.660
talk about the whites, you know, as if that's like some group of people. It's an outdated way of
00:08:09.940
speaking. And to me, I just cringe when I see this kind of stuff being spoken about. More and more
00:08:14.580
people are just going to tune out because no one wants to hear that kind of stuff. Okay, let's move
00:08:19.460
away from politics for a second with this story that really just sort of tears at your heartstrings.
00:08:24.820
So a three month old baby in Ottawa was diagnosed with a brain tumor in November. She's currently having
00:08:31.860
surgery to remove as much of the mass as possible. And obviously, this is just, you know, one of the
00:08:38.100
horrible tragedies that could happen to a family having a child with this kind of illness. As sad
00:08:46.180
as this is, the family has put together a fundraiser online at GoFundMe. Their campaign goal was to
00:08:52.500
raise $50,000 so that the family, the family's not able to work at this point because they're, you know,
00:08:57.540
the mom and dad are spending all of their time in the hospital at the bedside with their young
00:09:01.860
daughter. So they had a goal of raising $50,000. They've already raised $59,000. So, you know, this
00:09:08.660
is just a beautiful example of how a community can come together to support someone in a time of need.
00:09:16.100
You know, there's nothing more tragic than a child that's sick and has cancer. But, you know, this is
00:09:21.860
the value of community, of people just, you know, using the internet, using social media for good
00:09:28.420
to help this family in their time of need. So, you know, if you're able, head on over. We'll include
00:09:34.660
a link to the GoFundMe page and chip in a few dollars. And if not, just, you know, keep this
00:09:40.340
family and this baby in your prayers because, you know, I can't imagine what it's like to go through
00:09:47.460
something like that. All right. Gonna leave it at that. Thank you so much for joining us. We'll be back
00:09:52.660
on Thursday from Toronto. So thank you so much and have a great day.
