00:00:00.000 These past couple weeks, Canadians have been calling on their government to do a whole lot
00:00:09.660 of things. And I'm going to wager that one of those things they've been asking for has not been
00:00:14.960 to call for the implementation of a carbon tax. In fact, I'm going to imagine that only the most
00:00:21.020 ideologically persistent of carbon tax fans have even thought about this darn thing the past few
00:00:27.320 weeks. Why? Well, because we've gotten our priorities straight. We're seeing right now what matters in
00:00:32.800 this current moment. Things like shoring up the economy from destruction, making our healthcare
00:00:38.060 system as strong as it can be, protecting the elderly, the most vulnerable people with pre-existing
00:00:42.980 conditions. Something like the carbon tax, it's a frill. It's an idealistic sideshow. Obviously,
00:00:48.700 it is not something to be focused on right now for a number of, I think, pretty self-evident reasons.
00:00:54.160 For one, human activity has greatly decreased, meaning, of course, our emissions have decreased.
00:01:00.820 The oil and gas sector is really hurting the stock market, particularly those stocks, that sector on
00:01:06.640 the markets. They have taken major hits. And then number two, while you want to hit the consumer with
00:01:12.880 an everyday tax at the pumps now, when so many people are losing their jobs, and once we are out
00:01:19.080 of this, we are inevitably going to see some sort of taxation or something brought in for us to pay
00:01:24.940 down these massive debts that we have accumulated to help our fellow man at these very dire times.
00:01:30.340 Not at all. No way. No more carbon tax. And yet, kind of interestingly, we've seen a number of voices
00:01:36.760 step forward and say why climate alarmism is needed now more than ever. We've seen a couple editorials
00:01:42.320 talking about. This just shows, for some reason, why the climate change fight is more urgent than
00:01:47.840 ever and why we have to prioritize it. Look, if we can fight about something as insignificant as the
00:01:53.480 coronavirus, if we can tackle that, then surely we should then rise to the occasion tenfold from what
00:01:58.740 we're doing now to battle climate change. I wish I was exaggerating, but we've pretty much seen
00:02:03.280 bizarre arguments like that. On a similar note, we've seen Earth Hour being promoted quite heavily.
00:02:09.220 It happened Saturday evening. I actually laughed when I saw that, you know, it was still considered
00:02:13.820 a thing. I mean, most other things have been put on hold, events, activities, because we realize how
00:02:19.940 frivolous they look, how unnecessary they are in the face of shutting down society and keeping the
00:02:25.480 coronavirus battle going. But oh no, oh no, Earth Hour must continue. Wow. And we see that the Earth Hour
00:02:32.440 and World Wildlife Federation and all the different groups that promote it said, now more than ever,
00:02:36.620 Earth Hour is important at this time. So it should be self-evident to most that these climate change
00:02:44.140 priorities, particularly the carbon tax, are not things we should be focusing on right now. But
00:02:49.860 sadly, some of the chatter out there tells us that some minds are still very wired in that direction.
00:02:56.780 But for the rest of us, one thing we're going to have to say to governments once we slowly start
00:03:01.560 getting back to normal is, can we just say goodbye to that pesky carbon tax? Because now more than ever,
00:03:08.400 we can't afford it.
