In July of last year, we took a look at the case of an Ottawa Police Constable Daniel Monsillon who responded to a call of a male causing a disturbance and groping female customers in a shop. The arrest itself was violent and resulted in several strikes by Monsillon in order to get control of the larger, psychotic man. He was ultimately charged with manslaughter and suspended from duty while he waited trial. This week, he was acquitted.

one snippet of evidence adduced at trial suggested anything of the sort. The case

was adjudicated at Barr weighing the actual evidence and the law as it pertains to

the use of force by police. To be clear, the police are allowed by law to use force

And so it was in this case. Abdi was acting out in a manner that resulted in

had to go hands-on with Abdi to try and get control of the powerful and agitated

man. In taking control of Abdi, Monsillon used a number of hand strikes and took

Police work is occasionally violent. It goes with the territory. But the blatant nonsense
