A vigil and a shrine for a terrorist on the streets of Toronto sounds unbelievable but
00:00:11.240
believe it because it is what happened over the weekend in response to the US
00:00:15.960
airstrikes that killed Qasim Soleimani that terrorist mastermind who led the
00:00:20.760
offshoot of the Iranian government the Quds Force which was responsible for a
00:00:25.200
lot of their attacks and proxy wars taking place all across the region now
00:00:29.600
after Soleimani was killed there was a natural debate about whether or not
00:00:33.080
this was the right choice by the Trump administration what the repercussions
00:00:37.220
would be and so forth okay fair enough people are going to talk out public
00:00:40.760
policy some people thought it wasn't a good idea others were celebrating it a
00:00:44.360
lot then there were those who their response to it transcended let's just say
00:00:50.120
public policy discussions and military affairs and defense issues and just
00:00:54.560
turned into flat-out terror worship now Soleimani it's fair to say he is a
00:01:00.440
terrorist because the Quds Force what he ran is a designated terrorist organization
00:01:05.320
that has been for a number of years it is a branch of the Islamic Revolutionary
00:01:09.620
Guard Corps which is part of Iran's military so if you're taking to the
00:01:14.360
streets and you're waving the flag and holding up pictures of this guy and
00:01:17.680
lighting candles in front of vigils for him you are supporting a terrorist and that is
00:01:22.920
exactly what happened on the streets of Toronto this past weekend apparently in
00:01:26.680
Edmonton as well as reports tell hopefully not in other cities in Canada
00:01:31.080
hopefully it was just those two but you never know these days so what exactly
00:01:35.580
happened over the weekend well first of all in Toronto there was a no war with
00:01:40.440
Iran protest and you kind of scratch your head out the head at that a little
00:01:43.920
bit because a lot of the usual suspects number of NDP people including a
00:01:48.160
couple MPPs other activists and so forth they all met in front of the
00:01:52.780
US consulate in downtown Toronto to do this no war rally and even with that I
00:01:57.940
was kind of left scratching my head this is generally something that people on the
00:02:01.420
left will do whenever there's a potential looming military conflict they'll do
00:02:05.020
their anti-war protests but clearly they're usually just anti-American protests
00:02:09.940
because there's a whole bunch of things other countries do all throughout the
00:02:12.640
year that are preludes to war could potentially lead to war and for some reason
00:02:17.200
we don't protest in front of their consulates and their embassies odd odd way
00:02:22.840
to look at all of this from these protesters because these airstrikes they
00:02:26.960
were not considered preludes to war by the Trump administration Donald Trump
00:02:31.120
actually went up to the podium gave a five-minute address and said we do not
00:02:34.360
want war this was a targeted decisive surgical strike we want to kill this guy
00:02:39.260
and we did it so you can agree or disagree think it was a good or a bad thing but it
00:02:43.960
was not an attempt to start a war by the Trump administration so first of all
00:02:49.400
there I'm not exactly sure what these left-wing activists were getting at while
00:02:53.440
they were holding up these no war placards but the second part is why did
00:02:58.640
they not protest Iran doing all of these warlike moves throughout the past 20
00:03:04.540
years the things that Soleimani was doing and the things that ultimately got him
00:03:08.740
killed talk about the consistency there well after that protest wrapped up
00:03:13.920
later on in the evening an organization called the Almaty youth group well they
00:03:18.960
gathered in that area to hold a vigil for Qasem Soleimani where they were not
00:03:24.640
being unequivocal about it or cagey about it they weren't saying oh this is just a
00:03:28.260
no war protest no they were being flat-out honest that they were there to honor
00:03:33.540
Soleimani they described him as a hero of Islam in a post that they put up to
00:03:39.320
social media up on Twitter when I drew attention to this social media post they
00:03:43.500
took it down afterwards I guess not liking the fact that people were hip to it and
00:03:47.580
also that a lot of people were criticizing them for that now this is not one
00:03:51.720
single little fringe organization of a few people the Almaty website shows that
00:03:56.520
this is actually a part of Pickering's broader Almaty Islamic Center it's a
00:04:01.480
larger facility I saw that they recently were successful in doing a
00:04:05.500
fundraising drive to create a larger mosque a larger community center that will
00:04:09.500
get under construction later on hundreds of people attending this community
00:04:14.720
center so clearly not just one or two nut jobs in their Twitter accounts and and on
00:04:19.820
their Facebook pages but one apparently growing and thriving community and it was
00:04:24.480
a number of these people who showed up in downtown Toronto to erect this shrine to a
00:04:30.560
designated terrorist Wowzers now here's the interesting part were these
00:04:35.480
Iranians who were celebrating the killing of this Iranian figure maybe maybe not the
00:04:40.420
Almaty Center describes themselves as being consisted of people from
00:04:43.880
Afghanistan Iran Iraq Africa India and Pakistan although what we do know is that a
00:04:49.700
number of Iranian dissidents showed up at that event to confront these people and to
00:04:55.940
denounce them there are many Iranian Canadians who came here to Canada
00:05:00.480
specifically because they knew the horrors of the regime in Tehran they knew what Iran had
00:05:05.360
turned into after the 1979 Islamic Revolution they wanted nothing to do with it and
00:05:10.400
many of them and their family members had been tortured a lot of political
00:05:14.840
dissidents have been executed murdered held at the notorious Evin prison you can
00:05:20.120
say you don't support these airstrikes fine you can say no war in Iran but to
00:05:24.560
side with Soleimani to side with this regime what on earth are these people
