Summary

Summaries generated with gmurro/bart-large-finetuned-filtered-spotify-podcast-summ .

It's been a tumultuous few months for the federal government of Justin Trudeau, but frankly, it's hard to imagine any government that's been more politically tone deaf than this one. There's no question that the Prime Minister's policies have been wildly unpopular with most Canadians, and the carbon tax is making matters worse.

00:00:00.000 there's no question it's been a tumultuous few months for the federal
00:00:13.440 government of Justin Trudeau but frankly it's hard to imagine any government
00:00:20.280 that's been more politically tone-deaf than this one whether you're talking
00:00:24.900 about their incessant pounding of the climate change nonsense just yesterday
00:00:30.540 the environment minister said that icebergs off the coast of Newfoundland
00:00:34.860 were a dangerous sign of climate change apparently that warning came 107 years
00:00:41.340 too late to warn the captain of the Titanic you go to the carbon tax which
00:00:46.380 most Canadians are against it's hurting lower and middle-class Canadians the
00:00:52.700 most because they can least afford to pay that extra money the but the worst
00:00:59.540 example I think of this is last week's dedication of the Kandahar airfield
00:01:04.680 memorial at the new Department of Defense headquarters in West Ottawa it was
00:01:09.980 absolutely the wrong thing the wrong message to send by not inviting members
00:01:16.640 members of the families of the 159 Canadian soldiers who lost their lives
00:01:22.280 there since 2002 in fact they didn't even put out a press release on it they
00:01:27.800 put up a little blurb on Facebook and that was about it and the worst part about
00:01:32.300 the whole thing is that the memorial is behind a secure area at the Defense
00:01:38.480 Department headquarters so the only people can actually go and pay their
00:01:41.660 respects there are people who have a security access card to get into the
00:01:46.400 building it you know family member wants to go and lay some flowers for their
00:01:52.280 their loved one who was killed there they can't do it why not put it at the
00:01:56.780 National War Museum in Ottawa on Wellington Street why not put a memorial up you
00:02:03.980 know on the sidewalk out front so that all Canadians can see it unobstructed it it
00:02:09.920 makes no sense to me at all chief of defense staff there who's already reeling
00:02:15.920 general general Vance is already reeling under the firestorm of the whole Mark
00:02:21.440 Norman debacle and that's all it can be described as is a debacle when when he
00:02:27.440 blunders right into this PR disaster and and and it was all done with the
00:02:34.340 blessing of the defense minister and the Prime Minister it's just inconceivable to me
00:02:39.280 that they would allow something like this to happen and and basically stick
00:02:43.900 their fingers in the eyes of the families of those who lost loved ones in
00:02:48.820 Afghanistan during during those years after 9-11 Canada was one of the first 0.97
00:02:55.180 nations to send boots on the ground there with sniper teams and whatnot that
00:02:59.860 went to assist the CA operations in the US military operations in the mountains
00:03:05.380 there we've been in in we're in country from literally I believe it was just
00:03:11.080 early November 2001 right through till our troops came back just a few years ago
00:03:19.380 and as I say during the course of that time we lost 159 good men and women I can't
00:03:26.680 imagine I mean it's nice I suppose that they're putting up a memorial but it's 0.96
00:03:31.120 absolutely tone-deaf and frankly plain stupid to put the thing in the national 0.98
00:03:36.100 defense headquarters where no Canadians other than those who are employed there 1.00
00:03:40.480 in that building can go and see it it's remarkably tone-deaf and and it's just
00:03:45.880 another example of this government and how they're just doing things without
00:03:51.640 consulting people without without asking Canadians what they think and certainly
00:03:57.240 without listening to to stakeholders who you know who really care about these
00:04:02.980 sorts of issues the amount of disrespect for our military in the way that
00:04:07.380 they've handled this is is frankly astounding for True North I'm Leo Knight
