Trudeau government will consider handgun ban if re-elected

00:00:00.000 There's one surefire way to get me to support government ineptitude, and that is when bad policy is delayed.
00:00:12.900 In this context, it is the potential ban of handguns that the Liberals have been aggressively moving towards, it appears,
00:00:21.380 since the tragic Danforth-Half shooting in which an illegal and unregistered handgun was used to commit murder
00:00:28.000 by someone we know had ties to radicalism.
00:00:31.360 This horrific tragedy gave the federal government, under Justin Trudeau, political cover to explore a massive gun grab,
00:00:39.260 and Ralph Goodale even made the comment that it would be expedited.
00:00:43.060 Even after the New Zealand shooting, the attacks on mosques in Christchurch, Ralph Goodale said it might actually justify further restriction of firearms in Canada.
00:00:53.160 Now, this falls squarely into Bill Blair's corner.
00:00:56.240 The minister is supposedly responsible for border security and eliminating organized crime,
00:01:02.000 but in actuality, the minister responsible for anything to do with curbing the rights of law-abiding gun owners,
00:01:08.600 of which I am one. I own a handgun, so I've got skin in the game here.
00:01:12.660 Bill Blair has now said, despite his earlier promise to have the report done in 2018,
00:01:17.800 he will not be able to have his recommendations completed before the 2019 election.
00:01:21.880 This means that the process that the government will undertake to ban handguns, if it does,
00:01:27.520 won't be taking place before the election.
00:01:30.120 As I said, I've rarely been more excited to see the slow pace at which government moves than I am right now.
00:01:35.940 Now, this means there is a call to action for not just gun owners,
00:01:39.600 but anyone that believes that Canadians should have the right to own firearms,
00:01:43.480 or that Canadians should have the ability to enact personal freedoms in their own lives.
00:01:47.960 You can't vote for a government that is hell-bent on taking away your rights.
00:01:52.560 You cannot, as a freedom-loving citizen, consent to your rights being mitigated,
00:01:58.880 which is exactly what the Liberals are promising here.
00:02:01.640 This means that if the Liberals win re-election,
00:02:03.800 they will believe that they have been given a mandate specifically to ban handguns.
00:02:08.360 And the discussion that they're putting forward,
00:02:10.600 and the discussion that a lot of gun control advocates are putting forward,
00:02:13.800 is not one of rights, but one of need.

00:02:20.080 We aren't a society of needs.
00:02:21.500 We are supposed to be a society and a country based on rights, freedoms, and the rule of law.
00:02:26.660 And that means that such a disrespectful act towards the law-abiding,

00:02:32.240 should never, ever be approved or endorsed in this country that we love.
00:02:38.240 We don't have the constitutional right to bear arms,
00:02:40.960 but we do have rights.
00:02:42.220 And though the government does not view firearm ownership as a fundamental right,
00:02:46.680 that should encourage, not discourage, maintaining gun ownership as a fact of life in Canada.

00:03:01.060 When you buy a handgun, there's a waiting period.
00:03:03.960 There are many rules that prevent firearms from getting into the wrong hands legally.

00:03:13.920 which is where Bill Blair's priorities are supposed to lie.

00:03:21.420 If you care about freedom, Bill Blair cannot be in that position after October.
