Summary

In this episode, I talk about how the Liberal government is throwing everything they have at the carbon tax issue, and why I think it's time for government to get out of its own way. I also talk about the impact of the Supreme Court of Canada's ruling on the Saskatchewan carbon tax and why the government should just leave it to the market.

00:00:00.000 Hey guys, I want to talk to you about the latest troubling news story that has to do
00:00:09.100 with the carbon tax.
00:00:10.740 Well, quite frankly, all of these news stories that we see from it are quite troubling.
00:00:14.920 And what we're seeing at the beginning of this year is a major ramp up from the Liberal
00:00:19.380 government to gear up for this fight.
00:00:21.240 They are really excited about it.
00:00:22.800 They're looking forward, I guess, to what the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal says, even
00:00:26.800 though it might not be in their favor.
00:00:28.180 They want to go to the polls on this.
00:00:29.820 They want to fight an election over this.
00:00:32.520 Cabinet ministers just had a meeting, a couple days meeting, to talk about a whole bunch
00:00:36.900 of different issues.
00:00:38.060 One of the front and center ones, though, really fighting on this carbon tax issue.
00:00:42.420 Yet something else came out just the other day.
00:00:44.960 Statistics Canada releasing the year-over-year inflation data.
00:00:49.120 And I got bad news for regular folks, particularly those people who are just scraping by.
00:00:53.660 The price of vegetables, folks, vegetables went up 15%.
00:00:58.740 A basic staple in people's daily lives.
00:01:02.760 So here we have a regular consumer product that everybody needs to buy to eat, to live.
00:01:08.500 Prices are going up massively on this.
00:01:11.160 And yet at the same time, when this is happening, when there's economic uncertainty, when we're
00:01:16.200 not sure what's going on with Alberta, we can't get any pipelines built.
00:01:19.320 The government says now more than ever, we need to double down, triple down, throw everything
00:01:25.060 at this carbon tax fight.
00:01:27.460 It's really getting problematic.
00:01:29.300 It's really getting, quite frankly, cynical that they are just so fixated on this one blunt
00:01:35.200 instrument.
00:01:36.180 And then all you hear in response when you criticize them about it is they say, well,
00:01:39.900 what plan does Andrew Scheer have?
00:01:41.800 What is his plan?
00:01:43.480 Now, Andrew Scheer says he's going to have a plan.
00:01:45.320 Quite frankly, I don't think he should have a plan.
00:01:47.080 I think he should just say, well, let's leave it up to the market to create all these innovative
00:01:51.540 green products that will herald the green revolution.
00:01:54.020 And let's do what we can for government to get out of their way.
00:01:56.720 But we don't need some elaborate carbon tax plan.
00:02:00.100 And when they say what plan is if there's no plan, excuse me, there's already a federal
00:02:04.480 environment ministry, provincial environment ministries, various different offices at different
00:02:08.560 municipalities.
00:02:09.220 They have rules.
00:02:10.080 They have regulations.
00:02:11.080 They go out and they find people and charge people for violating those different pollution
00:02:15.500 rules and so forth.
00:02:16.900 Are you kidding me?
00:02:18.700 Yet they want to risk everything on this carbon tax.
00:02:22.040 At a time when your taxes are going up, a lot of people don't know if they're going to
00:02:25.240 have jobs.
00:02:26.120 And the price of vegetables have just gone up by 15%.
00:02:29.860 And I think it's a big issue.
00:02:31.540 But if you're going up and you're going to have time now, I'm going to make a balance.
00:02:35.920 And don't let theúc is exactly what I wrote.
