Summary

Bill C-48 and C-69 are the federal government's latest attack on the Canadian energy industry. They are designed to prevent any attempt to run an oil pipeline from Alberta to Prince Rupert, B.C.'s North Coast. This comes on the heels of a recent survey that showed confidence among Canadian exporters at the lowest level since the European debt crisis seven years ago.

00:00:00.000 The just-passed bills, C-48 and C-69, are just the federal government's latest attack on the Canadian energy industry.
00:00:17.000 C-48 is the so-called tanker ban on BC's North Coast.
00:00:22.000 It is now the only piece of coastline in the world where tankers are banned.
00:00:26.000 Tankers move oil from Alaska to Puget Sound every day, so the ban will do nothing about them.
00:00:32.000 It is solely designed to prevent any attempt to run a pipeline from the oil patch to Tidewater in Prince Rupert.
00:00:39.000 It is aimed squarely at the province of Alberta, the primary oil-producing region in the country.
00:00:45.000 The government talks about protecting our pristine coastline and the adjacent area to the Great Bear Rainforest,
00:00:52.000 which in itself is a fabricated term by the eco-loonies that seem to hold so much sway with the Trudeau government.
00:00:59.000 Bill C-69 is little more than a regulation creator to make bringing any energy megaproject to life next to impossible.
00:01:09.000 Neither of these two laws, just approved in the Senate, will do a single thing to help Canadians or make our lives better.
00:01:17.000 Quite the contrary, they act as a throttle to the energy industry, which is the engine of the Canadian economy.
00:01:24.000 This comes on the heels of the annual survey by Export Development Canada,
00:01:29.000 which showed confidence among Canadian exporters is at the lowest level since the European debt crisis seven years ago.
00:01:38.000 Governments have a role to play in the economies of their countries.
00:01:43.000 The government of Justin Trudeau has done damage to the Canadian economy with their virtue signaling on gender equity,
00:01:51.000 their failure to negotiate a new NAFTA agreement while Mexico and the U.S. hammered out an agreement,
00:01:58.000 while our Prime Minister served in Tofino.
00:02:01.000 The imposition of a carbon tax and higher payroll taxes on business are job killers, and they're inflation triggers.
00:02:10.000 Canadian GDP is staggering along, in positive territory, but just barely.
00:02:15.000 Contrast this with the economy of our neighbour to the south, which is on fire.
00:02:20.000 GDP is growing there at rates higher than 3% per quarter.
00:02:24.000 Unemployment is at historical lows, especially among minorities, who are reaping opportunities many never even dreamed of.
00:02:32.000 The U.S. has added over 500,000 manufacturing jobs many thought were long gone,
00:02:38.000 which President Obama even said you'd need a magic wand to bring back.
00:02:43.000 Well, apparently not.
00:02:45.000 Canada and the U.S. are each other's largest trading partners,
00:02:48.000 with over $2.6 billion worth of goods crossing the border every day.
00:02:53.000 All President Trump did was lower business taxes, personal taxes, and eliminate thousands of business-killing regulations.
00:03:01.000 In other words, he got the government out of the way of business and allowed his economy to flourish.
00:03:07.000 Trudeau, on the other hand, has increased cost to business,
00:03:11.000 and enacted legislation to ensure the sector that drives the Canadian economy is hampered,
00:03:17.000 and new investment has almost dried up entirely in the energy sector.
00:03:23.000 Trump got his government out of the way.
00:03:26.000 Trudeau placed his government firmly in the way.
00:03:29.000 It's painfully obvious which is better.
