00:00:45.160 even days millions of canadians are without a family doctor nurses are burning out hospitals

00:00:50.640 are bursting at the seams. And it's a system that seems to fail at the exact moment that you need

00:00:55.900 it the most. Well, this week in Calgary, it happened to me. I wasn't no longer just looking

00:01:01.340 at the statistics. I was in it. The Canadian healthcare system came from my three-year-old

00:01:06.100 daughter. And it doesn't just end there, unfortunately. We see the failures of this

00:01:10.140 policy impact the housing in this country, which we're going to talk about. But first,

00:01:14.620 let's play this clip from my one-week trip when I was at the Calgary Stampede.

00:01:21.060 My daughter fell on her face, hit a furnace, split her lip, busted her nose, bleeding profusely.

00:01:28.320 We're being told it's going to be up to five hours to see her.

00:01:31.160 It's actually been five hours and 30 minutes so far to see a doctor.

00:01:34.920 The nurse came up to us at the five-hour mark and said,

00:04:42.940 pain the literally the waiting room is just full it's bursting from the seams and everyone is just

00:04:48.220 in pain and there is no doctor there i want to be very clear when we checked in at 11 30 pm

00:04:54.860 there was no doctor in this hospital this is a major hospital rocky view hospital in calgary

00:05:00.700 until 7am. That's when we saw and we first saw a doctor roaming around the halls, seeing patients.

00:05:08.480 And those nurses told us there was no doctor there. They were, you know, going after and saving

00:05:13.720 somebody's life, presumably, right? Providing care to the people that need it the most. That's

00:05:18.660 not my argument in this, by the way, I am not sitting here and saying, why did my daughter who

00:05:23.100 by the way, this happened in the hotel that we were at, she smashed her face on a furnace really

00:05:28.860 hard, cut her lip, busted her nose. And we just immediately, we saw her and we're like, oh my

00:05:35.080 God, this is bad. And how she impacted her head. We were immediately concerned, but we're not

00:05:39.760 familiar to Calgary. I don't live in Calgary. We're there for the stampede. So what did I

00:05:42.740 immediately do? I immediately called the hotel manager and said exactly what happened. I said,

00:05:47.160 look, I'm not familiar. What is the best hospital to take my three-year-old daughter to in this

00:05:52.200 emergency? As my wife was packing up to get ready to head out the door. And he said, go to this 1.00

00:05:57.020 hospital because the other hospitals won't have as much capacity at a time so we took our best

00:06:01.480 advice from somebody that was local to the area to say where exactly we should be going for this

00:06:05.720 situation so we go to this emergency room and we are waiting there for so long for a a girl the 0.82

00:06:12.840 fact that our health care system can't have enough capacity while dealing with other emergencies

00:06:18.440 okay other life-pressing emergencies to take a three-year-old girl that has sustained these

00:06:25.020 injuries and not see her for eight hours is a travesty. And it's not just her. Oh my God,

00:06:30.140 the stories of the Canadians. I was sitting there in a hospital waiting room. Just unbelievable.

00:06:35.220 A guy broke all of his ribs in a motorcycle accident. He's waiting in pain and agony.

00:06:40.780 Another gentleman broke his leg. He's asking them, please help me. Give me pain medication.

00:06:45.480 Give me something. They're just giving him Advil. It's not helping. People were just suffering all

00:06:49.580 around us. People were coming up to us and saying, oh my God, your little girl needs to be seen

00:06:54.780 now like she needs to be seen and we saw the swelling start starting to come up and i said

00:07:01.400 i went up to the nurses and i said guys we've been waiting here for so long like her swelling's

00:07:06.880 getting worse like what what can we do help us can somebody help us manage this because we notice

00:07:11.540 her face is like starting to puff more and they just gave us this ice pack that i showed in that

00:07:16.460 video she's got a cut i'm not a doctor okay i look i understand i can administer ice to reduce the

00:07:22.400 swelling. But like, I'm thinking in my head, this doesn't look like she just gave us a package. Is

00:07:26.520 it sterilized? It's going on an open wound. How long do I need to be putting it on for? Like all

00:07:30.920 these things that I would expect in a state where as a parent, I'm in shock, like come and give me

00:07:35.160 some guidance and assistance. I got none of that. Got zero of it. We just waited for that eight

00:07:39.740 hours until we saw a doctor. It is unbelievable. You walk into, honestly, if you walk into an

00:07:45.180 emergency room, it is the exact mirror of the status that we have in this country. It is a mess.

00:07:52.400 This country is a reflection of our emergency rooms in this country. We have over 20,000 people

00:07:58.600 dying every year in emergency rooms. It's literally people are struggling and fighting

00:08:03.580 to survive. It's a war zone. It is a war zone. It is unbelievable. And I'm tired of this bickering

00:09:06.880 a quality of life. It blows my mind. And honestly, again, I want to say this to be very clear. I do

00:09:13.920 not blame the people at the hospital. I do not blame you. I blame the leadership of this country

00:09:19.260 for allowing this nightmare to happen.

00:09:25.320 can get, in this exact example, treatment in 30 minutes?

00:10:37.220 strike action. They're working through different areas of how they promote their strike action.
