00:00:00.000 do you remember when immigration was not a political issue in canada when people just
00:00:10.800 simply didn't talk about immigration and that anti-immigration rhetoric was relegated to the
00:00:15.680 fringes of political discourse under justin trudeau's leadership immigration has become
00:00:20.080 the biggest issue in canada because of the manner in which the trudeau government has handled
00:00:24.800 immigration mass immigration has dissolved canada's social cohesion our national consensus on
00:00:31.920 immigration and canada's image around the world on this episode of ratio we will be analyzing the
00:00:38.720 current and historical data surrounding immigration in canada we will be comparing the way that stephen
00:00:44.640 harper handled immigration to the way justin trudeau has handled immigration and we will be laying out
00:00:51.200 a positive immigration plan that we believe pierre polyev should adopt if he becomes the next
00:00:57.600 prime minister this plan will restore canada's great social cohesion it will create conditions
00:01:03.920 where newcomers can live peacefully beside each other and it will create conditions in which native-born
00:01:09.440 canadians and newcomers can all live peacefully adopting a definable set of canadian values now
00:01:15.680 before we get into the show be sure to drop a like on this video help us out by subscribing to
00:01:19.360 the true north youtube channel and the comment question for the episode is this what do you
00:01:24.560 want to see from pierre polyev's immigration plan if he becomes prime minister let us know in the
00:01:30.080 comments below and let's get into it now before we can lay out a positive immigration plan for a future
00:01:36.080 conservative government in this country we first have to analyze the situation as it is right now
00:01:41.120 and look at previous historical trends when pierre polyev says that justin trudeau has broken canada's
00:01:47.280 immigration system what exactly does that mean well we're going to look at the immigration system as
00:01:52.880 it stands right now we're going to look at the figures as they are right now and not what justin
00:01:58.080 trudeau says they will be in future years because as we all know he's now gone so let's look at the
00:02:03.440 system right now in 2024 it is possible that canada has taken in at least 482 000 new permanent residents
00:02:13.200 that number could be as high as 542 000. since 2020 canada's immigration rate has increased by 300
00:02:21.840 and for many years now before justin trudeau canada's immigration rate has been one of the
00:02:26.320 highest in the world when it comes to permanent figures justin trudeau is personally responsible
00:02:31.040 for increasing canada's population by 13 and as of december of 2024 there were reportedly
00:02:38.080 4.9 million temporary residents with expiring visas in canada but to be more accurate that number is
00:02:44.800 closer to 3 million which accounts for over seven percent of canada's population seven percent of
00:02:51.600 canada's population are non-permanent temporary residents now let's look at the international
00:02:57.200 student situation right now there are over 1 million international students with active student visas in
00:03:02.880 this country right now according to government figures they estimate that 640 000 of those
00:03:09.280 international students come from india now let's look at the temporary foreign worker program we
00:03:14.560 already discussed temporary residents which includes international students but on the international
00:03:20.640 mobility program the imp the government estimates that between january 1st and september 30th 2023 the
00:03:26.880 government issued over 1 million work permits under the international mobility program up from 530
00:03:34.640 000 in 2022 canada issued over 183 000 temporary foreign worker program permits in 2023 what does that
00:03:44.080 look like for canadians on a day-to-day basis and why has the consensus on immigration been broken by
00:03:50.080 justin trudeau well there are several factors for that youth unemployment in canada is over 13 percent the
00:03:56.000 highest that figure has been in over a decade per capita gdp has fallen for the seventh consecutive
00:04:03.600 quarter in canada and that's nine out of the last 10 quarters canada is now poorer on a per capita
00:04:10.800 gdp basis than alabama this marks the sharpest decline in per capita gdp in 40 years when it comes to
00:04:19.520 housing canada currently ranks last in the g7 for housing availability per 1 000 people when it comes
00:04:25.920 to uh foreign interference well we already know the situation with that but it does bear repeating
00:04:31.520 that we know there are currently 11 former or current parliamentarians accused of being winning or
00:04:38.000 unwitting conspirators in a foreign interference operation now what the stats do not tell you is
00:04:43.760 that we have sectarian violence taking over our streets we have violent clashes between hindu and
00:04:50.720 sikh diaspora groups in this country we have anti-canadian protests taking place in our streets
00:04:56.960 in which the canadian flag is being burned anti-semitism is on the rise riots taking over montreal for
00:05:05.200 foreign causes so taking all of this into account it's quite easy to understand why canadians have
00:05:10.400 soured on immigration why it is that canada's national consensus on immigration is now gone and why it is
00:05:18.320 that canada's social cohesion seems to be evaporating take a look at what net migration in canada was like
00:05:25.520 when you compare stephen harper's time as prime minister to justin trudeau's time as prime minister
00:05:30.880 this is net migration per quarter starting in 2006 to the end of 2023 obviously these figures look outrageous
00:05:40.800 furthermore take a look at annual population growth in this country starting in 1991 to 2023
00:05:48.960 almost a mirror image where since 1991 canada's annual population growth was pretty much the same
00:05:56.880 but justin trudeau wanted to take things a different direction for about 15 years canada's
00:06:01.600 annual population growth never exceeded 400 000 when justin trudeau came along he immediately exceeded 400
00:06:09.520 000 and by 2023 canada's annual population growth was over 1.2 million all of this resulted in justin
00:06:16.560 trudeau giving the public a mea culpa on immigration in which he admitted that things got out of control
00:06:22.560 that the numbers were too high he has revised his annual permanent residency numbers from 500 000 in
00:06:29.520 2025 to 395 000. again in 2026 the number goes down by 15 000 to 380 000 and in 2027 he wants to bring
00:06:40.560 those numbers down again to 365 000. but when you compare those figures to stephen harper's figures
00:06:48.160 what does that look like well an article published in the global mail in 2014 by john nibbetson gives us an
00:06:53.680 interesting insight into how the legacy media was interpreting immigration at that time in stephen
00:07:00.000 harper's premiership of canada and there are some interesting insights in this article about what
00:07:04.720 immigration was like back then before the system got out of control john nibbetson writes the paper
00:07:10.640 examines how the conservatives have made immigration and refugee policy less compassionate and more
00:07:16.080 economically focused than it was under previous liberal governments for example refugee claimants
00:07:22.160 from 42 countries designated as safe now have their claims rejected essentially out of hand refugees to
00:07:27.920 canada are now far more carefully screened than in the past to ensure that they can integrate
00:07:33.040 successfully family class immigration has virtually vanished under the tories instead parents and
00:07:38.400 grandparents can visit for up to 10 years using a new super visa provided their families are able and
00:07:43.120 willing to pay for health care and other costs as for the great bulk of economic class immigrants
00:07:48.000 who come to our shores starting in the new year their application will be graded under the rules of
00:07:52.160 new express entry program those with the highest score will be invited to enter canada with the
00:07:56.880 government promising to process their applications within six months the rest will have their
00:08:01.040 applications rejected after one year though they can reapply whether you support or oppose these
00:08:06.160 reforms will depend on how you view immigration policy the conservatives can hardly be called anti-immigrant
00:08:11.920 the quota for next year has been raised from 250 000 to 280 000 the world's most generous immigration
00:08:20.000 program will become more generous still so there you go so back in 2014 the legacy media was describing the
00:08:27.280 stephen harper immigration plan as less compassionate and more economically focused and that canada had the
00:08:33.680 most generous immigration system in the world and our permanent residency numbers were 280 000 in 2014.
00:08:41.200 the year prior it was 250 000 a year so what should pierre poliev do if as the polls indicate he will
00:08:49.040 become the next prime minister well we know that pierre poliev has committed to reducing immigration
00:08:54.880 but that commitment hasn't come with hard figures and whether those figures are below the now revised
00:09:02.160 trudeau figures is yet to be seen we do know however that pierre poliev has said that the numbers are way too
00:09:09.440 high we also know that his plan is to tie immigration to available demand in this country now what that
00:09:15.920 would look like in practice is of course yet to be seen now after analyzing the data and looking at
00:09:20.240 the situation here in canada we think that in order to restore canada's immigration consensus and begin
00:09:27.200 to rebuild the social strain that mass immigration has caused on canadian society a pierre poliev government
00:09:34.160 should implement the five following initiatives to restore immigration in this country to bring back
00:09:39.520 a positive immigration vision to this country and to put canada on a strong economic footing so the
00:09:45.200 first initiative is to lower the permanent residency intake for the following three years to pre harper era
00:09:52.240 figures that number would look like approximately 200 000 a year the second initiative would be to
00:09:58.480 implement specific country caps on permanent residency intake this would ensure that canada is taking in
00:10:06.000 permanent residents from around the world and not too high of a concentration from one country like
00:10:12.240 china or india this will ensure that integration into canadian society is easier and more streamlined it's
00:10:19.360 far more difficult of a process to do that when you bring in so many people from one culture the incentive
00:10:25.120 to integrate into canadian culture is just not there if there are hundreds of thousands of people from
00:10:30.720 the same country coming in at the same time the third initiative would be to increase the points
00:10:35.600 threshold to qualify for permanent residency with a specific focus on education skills and language again
00:10:44.080 this would not only ensure that canada is bringing in the very best from around the world but it will also
00:10:50.480 make it easier to implement more integration seamless integration into canadian society now the fourth
00:10:57.040 initiative would be to strengthen both public and private institutions to enhance faster cultural and
00:11:02.400 social integration of newcomers into canadian society the final initiative would be to significantly
00:11:07.840 strengthen border measures on our southern border also it would include a commitment to double the
00:11:14.000 amount of deportations that the canadian border services agency is carrying out a strong deportation
00:11:20.160 plan will defend the sanctity of the immigration system it will encourage more lawful immigration
00:11:26.720 and it will reassure canadians that the government has immigration under control something that i think
00:11:32.400 most canadians and the polling bears this out do not believe in right now immigration has been a force
00:11:39.280 for good for canada in the past immigration can and will become a force for good in the future in this country
00:11:46.320 if numbers are controlled if the government is measured in their response to immigration if canadian values
00:11:52.480 are respected and adhered to and if this country prioritizes bringing in only the very best from around the world
00:11:58.880 all right everyone that's gonna do it for us today on the show thank you so much for tuning in my name is harrison faulkner
