Summary

In this episode, I talk about the lack of conservative leadership candidates in the Conservative Party Leadership race and why it's a good thing. I also talk about why the party needs to rally behind individuals who present solutions to those ideas and chart them on the directions they want to head in.

00:00:00.000 it's now looking like there's not going to be that many names at least not that many big
00:00:09.760 ticket names putting their hat forward for the conservative party leadership race and that's a
00:00:14.700 shame so we've got Peter McKay who's definitely in MP Marilyn Gladue who is in other than that
00:00:21.120 we're learning about people who are out Ronna Ambrose out Pierre Polyev surprisingly out
00:00:26.000 Jean Charest out although I'm glad that last one is out because Jean Charest I mean quite frankly we
00:00:31.520 don't want anybody who's been acting as a lobbyist advisor or anything in any capacity supporting
00:00:37.580 Huawei which we learned that Jean Charest had been doing some work for Huawei but I digress the only
00:00:43.280 name really people are left wondering is this person going to run is Aaron O'Toole I've heard
00:00:47.840 that yes he's still planning to run and there should be an announcement forthcoming soon but
00:00:51.740 you never know we heard the same thing about Pierre Polyev so why is this not a good thing if
00:00:57.860 there's only going to be a couple names out there I mean we're often told oh there were too many people
00:01:03.080 on the stage last time around like 12 of them it was a mess the Democratic nominations down south they
00:01:08.840 had something like 20 in the first debates they had to split them onto two different nights that's
00:01:13.980 no way to have a debate so yes it was a mess and when you have 10 12 people 20 in their case down south
00:01:20.480 you're going to have a few people who they don't actually contribute too much to the conversation
00:01:25.180 they're kind of nutty they were just able to pay the freight to get in the door the first time around
00:01:29.760 but what are they really bringing okay those are all very good points but I think here's one of the
00:01:35.440 things that would be lacking a robust discussion and debate about policy priorities I will tell you
00:01:41.560 if there's one thing I've learned about conservative grassroots members from all my years writing columns
00:01:46.440 and broadcasting and meeting people at events like the Manning Center and conservative conventions
00:01:52.100 is that these are people who are hungry for ideas for policy that's what they are there for and they
00:01:58.760 want to discuss it they want to know what are the things that they are going out there to fight for
00:02:04.360 when they knock on the doors the conservative party doesn't really go for cult of personality stuff
00:02:09.620 they're not going to be able to say oh we've you know we've got a Trudeau type guy excellent and just
00:02:14.600 celebrate the looks and the style of that individual and the brand name no they want to go out and fight
00:02:21.000 for ideas as it should be because there's a lot of stuff at stake right now fiscal issues domestic
00:02:26.720 policies foreign policy a ton of foreign policy issues arctic sovereignty all of those things and the
00:02:33.020 party needs to get together and rally behind individuals who present solutions to those ideas policies
00:02:39.280 to chart them on the directions they want to head in I also think one other thing they really need to
00:02:44.880 be serious about here which is why you need a lot of people running and why you need a lot of ideas
00:02:49.420 on the table is they will not be running whoever wins against Justin Trudeau of 2019 that was that was a
00:02:56.380 one-shot it's not going to happen again and what do I mean by that I mean someone who is is so embattled so
00:03:02.800 weakened who's messed up these foreign policy files who has been revealed to have been having these blackface
00:03:08.260 photos that he's been taking for what almost like a decade's worth of time I mean wow you're not gonna
00:03:14.980 find a guy under siege as much as Trudeau was then and like it or not he does seem to have matured his
00:03:21.580 image coming in to 2020 and after that election in October he's no longer saying as many gaffes he's
00:03:28.420 trying to not be so overexposed he's stepping back he's not memeing and hashtagging and well he's grown the
00:03:35.260 beard look and I don't want to fall for the trick but he does just conduct himself and carry himself
00:03:39.880 in a more mature way which I imagine would be appealing to swing voters so you're not running
00:03:44.940 against uh p.m. selfie blackface wear you're going to be running against I don't know who this person
00:03:51.260 is Justin Trudeau in in 2021 2022 whenever that election is which is all the more reason why you
00:03:58.620 need to pick someone not because you go oh great quick we're in a minority who can easily slay the
00:04:03.580 Trudeau dragon no I think it's got to be a lot more slower methodical and planned than that so have
00:04:10.940 a very rigorous debate get as many people out there as possible and really hash out the issues because
00:04:16.460 well anything's possible and that could be what happens in the next federal general election
