00:00:00.000Welcome to Canada's Most Irreverent Talk Show. This is The Andrew Lawton Show, brought to you by True North.
00:00:10.600Hello and welcome to you all. This is Canada's Most Irreverent Talk Show, The Andrew Lawton Show, here on True North.
00:00:17.260On this Friday, August 25th, 2023, on our Friday shows, we try to do a bigger picture view, get that 30,000 foot perspective on a big issue of the day,
00:00:30.560whatever that issue is that may not be particularly sensitive on the timing, but in this particular show,
00:00:36.540it is because we are seeing on a couple of different fronts the politics of transgender ideology seep into a great many spaces.
00:00:45.760It has been an issue in the classroom, it's been an issue in women's shelters, it's been an issue in jails,
00:00:51.060it's been an issue in the political context, although you are going to be hard-pressed to find a politician who is prepared to talk about it.
00:00:59.740Over the last year, we've seen a proliferation, I think, of groups of parents, of networks of parents.
00:01:06.200You never want to get between a mama bear and her little cubs, but we've seen that happen in the schools.
00:01:13.240Parents that have been speaking up and saying, whoa, whoa, whoa, I don't like my kid being taught this, I don't like my kid being taught that.
00:01:20.420You've always had that to some extent. There's always been a contingent of parents that says,
00:01:24.940you know what, I want to pull my kids out of sex ed because I think this is something that we should be teaching them as parents and families.
00:01:31.300And for the most part, the government has always just accepted that,
00:01:34.860and they didn't really start until the last few years to make it more and more difficult for parents to do that.
00:01:40.480And of course, the matters in the curriculum have extended to such a point that now we're seeing more and more people
00:01:46.660join this movement of parents that are saying enough is enough.
00:01:51.160And we've certainly seen this fight in the United States, but Canada has seen it as well.
00:01:55.960And as a result, we now have a very broad coalition of people that aren't just your hardline evangelical Christians,
00:02:02.600but also Muslims, Catholics, Catholics, Jews, atheists, Sikhs, Hindus, agnostics, and Zoroastrians,
00:02:09.640maybe you get one of them or two, that are all coming together right now and saying,
00:02:12.980listen, we may have wildly different beliefs about theology, about this and that, about politics,
00:02:18.020but when it comes to our children, we don't like what they're being taught.
00:02:22.740And it's been interesting how the Justin diversity is our strength Trudeau government
00:02:27.660has taken a very different tone on this, as has much of the left.
00:02:32.160For example, they used to preach about the perils of Islamophobia,
00:02:36.320the need to tolerate Muslims, and the need to love Muslims.
00:02:39.120But the second it's Muslims speaking up and saying,
00:02:41.660well, actually, our religion doesn't really align with this really overzealous
00:02:46.200and really aggressive approach to sexual identity,
00:02:50.180then it's, well, who do we side with here?
00:02:53.620And you've seen this come to a flashpoint in a couple of cases.
00:02:56.980For example, back a few years ago, you had the debate about whether a transgender waxing client
00:03:04.180has a right to demand being waxed by a Muslim waxologist
00:03:08.060that doesn't want to wax female genitalia.
00:03:10.800This is something that may be an amusing headline,
00:03:14.000but really touches on a very real issue in society,
00:03:17.500which is what happens when you proclaim to be the most diverse, tolerant society
00:03:21.660and find that two groups' rights are seemingly butting up against each other.
00:03:27.060Well, this has been what's happening now.
