In this episode, I sit down with my good friend and MS warrior, Alex, to talk about his journey with MS and how it has impacted his life and how he is able to overcome it in a positive way. We also talk about the importance of body positivity and how important it is to use it in your everyday life.
00:04:57.520And I think if I see that as a result, like if I saw those results for you, like I might think more of it.
00:05:04.260But it's just tough because you're saying body positivity is such a good thing and you're a plus size model, but your results are you're still overweight.
00:05:11.940I mean, I'm in the process of that, but I haven't always been in favor of body positivity, point blank, I would say.
00:05:17.520I was more about body neutrality, which is basically just not caring and just doing whatever.
00:05:24.360And that was how I thought for a long time.
00:05:25.840But body neutrality is selfish because everybody else has to deal with your poor decisions, even if you're just neutral.
00:05:32.040Like, liking the way you look and say, I'm going to accept myself as is.
00:05:36.200Everybody else has to deal with your decisions because either you're going to have health issues and the taxpayers have to deal with it.
00:06:49.680But I think the point here is that you can enjoy your day.
00:06:53.200You can go to the beach with your friends if you want to and actually enjoy a day on the beach with your friends without the fact that you are maybe not your healthiest weight or not your best shape and allowing that to taint your day.
00:07:05.360Even at the beach, like, it's going to taint your day.
00:07:07.960Whether anyone says anything to you or not, it's going to taint your day.
00:07:10.880You're not going to be able to do the same things your in-shape friends are going to do.
00:07:15.560There's no way you guys are going to have the same mobility as the trainers here.
00:07:21.120If you guys go surfing, if you go tubing, like, you're not going to be able to do the same thing.
00:07:25.120I can't do the training, but I can do a lot of other things.
00:07:27.940So while it might not affect you now, it might be you're young, maybe it'll affect you later, but at some point life is going to hit you.
00:07:36.400And that's why I promote eating healthy and actually trying your best to actually be healthy.
00:08:12.620It should be as simple as that, really.
00:08:14.160They shouldn't be like, oh, it's confusing.
00:08:16.880You know, there's going to be people, like I said, there's a small amount, small percentage of people that, you know, probably do have conditions and whatnot.
00:08:23.540But at the end of the day, if you're fat, you can acknowledge that you're unhealthy and you've all agreed that you want to better yourself and start eating healthier, whether it's training as well.
00:08:34.080So, I mean, yeah, you can keep trying to individualise it.
00:08:37.460But at the end of the day, it's very, it's night and day.
00:08:40.160And it's also, you need to see where a lot of people are obese.
00:09:04.520But I'm saying like that, that's, I'm just thinking if your premise is true.
00:09:08.640If we're going to say it's about wealth, then I would imagine we would see in poorer countries, they would be fatter than in richer countries.
00:10:01.520But then within America, what groups of people, just to get deeper on that point, I don't know if I really have an opinion or a strong one on this, but.
00:10:08.320But within America, or even if we take London, are we saying then that the poorer people within those places are more likely to be unhealthy, obese than the richer people?
00:10:18.640I think it's easier for them to get obese.
00:10:27.500Yeah, that's probably the case in America, but there's a large portion of the population in America.
00:10:32.060According to the CDC, 38 states plus Puerto Rico have obesity rates above 30%.
00:10:39.780The 10 states and territories with the lowest obesity rates are District of Columbia, Hawaii, Colorado, Massachusetts, California, Florida, New Jersey, Washington, Vermont, and New York.
