00:00:00.000 You're just going to ignore the pay gap, regulation over our bodies.
00:00:03.960 The pay gap has been just proven and debunked endlessly, my friend.
00:00:07.360 It's the industries that women pick.
00:00:10.160 There's a pay gap, but it's because women don't want to do the hardest industries.
00:00:14.460 I don't think it's that simple.
00:00:16.420 I think that's a nerve simplification.
00:00:18.820 I think the fact of the matter is that women structure their lives differently to men.
00:00:22.580 Men don't give birth.
00:00:23.780 Men don't have to carry pregnancies.
00:00:27.080 Men don't have to be the primary caregiver most of the time.
00:00:29.960 Men also don't hold jobs for as long as men do.
00:00:32.360 They often will stop and start.
00:00:33.680 They'll go back into work.
00:00:34.680 They'll take time off.
00:00:35.680 They'll take part-time jobs.
00:00:36.880 The way that men work and women work are astronomically different.
00:00:39.720 And to try to say that they're comparable is where this issue comes from.
00:00:43.460 They're not comparable.
00:00:44.460 Two things.
00:00:45.460 First of all, let's dig into why they think that they should take these jobs, which is
00:00:49.900 society, societal sexism.
00:00:51.740 And then also, actually, I mean, Department of Labor, all statistics, at least speaking
00:00:56.980 in the U.S., have found that when compared for the same jobs, there still is a pay gap,
00:01:01.860 particularly when it pertains to race.
00:01:03.440 Because 60 percent of women have never asked for a raise.
00:01:06.080 So how can you complain about your pay if you don't ask?
00:01:08.380 Yes.
00:01:09.380 What happens when women ask for a raise?
00:01:11.260 Sorry.
00:01:12.260 I've been wanting to say something, but I want to be respectful.
00:01:14.840 I don't want to interrupt people, and I want to let them finish their thoughts.
00:01:18.060 Jump in.
00:01:19.060 Just go through the wall.
00:01:20.060 It is a very privileged label to be able to say that you're feminist.
00:01:24.260 And I say that because I come from a working-class background of Dominican immigrant parents.
00:01:29.840 My mother would not necessarily identify as a feminist.
00:01:33.600 I look to my mother, and I do think of her as a feminist.
00:01:36.600 A lot of my ideas and my empowerment comes from seeing her, like, survive and put food
00:01:43.280 on the table.
00:01:44.280 When I'm thinking about feminism, I'm always thinking about who's not part of the conversation.
00:01:49.420 What are the barriers?
00:01:50.420 How do we think about equity?
00:01:51.420 How do we think about self-empowerment and agency and having a voice, right, and having choice,
00:01:55.960 and thinking about our basic human rights—education, access to health, homes, like having bread,
00:02:03.460 having food.
00:02:04.460 And those things are very important, right?
00:02:06.020 And they're at the crux, right, of what a lot of us here know that we need.
00:02:11.140 It's like there are the barriers, right, that we constantly ignore that are very much systemic
00:02:16.120 and microaggressive, right?
00:02:17.200 We see them and experience them every day.
00:02:18.700 Like what in the U.S.?
00:02:19.700 Like what?
00:02:20.700 So, what would you like to know an example of?
00:02:22.240 I know you said that there's, like, barriers.
00:02:25.580 I want to know what barriers in the U.S. today as a woman.
00:02:28.500 Well, as a woman or as a woman of color?
00:02:30.460 Let's be specific.
00:02:31.460 As a woman.
00:02:32.460 I said as a woman.
00:02:33.460 Well, no, I can't answer as a woman.
00:02:34.460 I just feel like your question is kind of hostile when you're like, there are no barriers
00:02:40.220 to what I want.
00:02:41.220 Congratulations.
00:02:42.220 That means you have the privilege where you're not facing any friction and that's
00:02:46.300 showing.
00:02:47.300 And I feel like it's, like, ignoring.
00:02:48.300 I think as an American, you're very privileged.
00:02:50.300 Oh, okay.
00:02:51.300 I'm not ignoring that.
00:02:52.300 Or like a basic level of what, I mean, the feminist movement is when it comes to just
00:02:57.720 being born a woman, right?
00:03:00.220 Physically, pound for pound, we are born as women and we have less lean muscle mass than
00:03:04.220 men.
00:03:05.220 So there are issues of violence and assault and stuff like that.
00:03:09.220 And so, therefore, there are policies, there are things to help women physically.
00:03:13.140 Like, for example, I believe, being able to carry a firearm and being able to use that
00:03:18.000 safely to defend yourself against men who are born naturally with more muscle mass than
00:03:24.280 a woman.
00:03:25.280 I keep hearing the term equity.
00:03:27.560 What would a world that has equity look like?
00:03:30.440 Like, would it be 50% of everyone in the same jobs?
00:03:33.400 Would it be, like, prison 50%?
00:03:35.140 That's equality.
00:03:36.140 So what does equity look like?
00:03:37.980 So equity is generally described as a state of fairness, because historically, a lot of
00:03:41.600 people have been arguing for equality.
00:03:43.060 But what does that give us?
00:03:44.980 Like, 0.5 of the 1% being woman, this doesn't really do anything for us.
00:03:50.620 And so people have talked about equity instead, which is instead of sameness, it's fairness.
00:03:56.960 And this would mean that we remove systemic barriers to engage in society, not just for women,
00:04:03.680 but also for everyone.
00:04:04.680 So which barriers?
00:04:06.520 Those barriers that you don't believe in.
00:04:08.140 Yeah, I don't.
00:04:09.140 I don't.
00:04:10.140 Go on.
00:04:11.140 What does it do for you to have a bunch of ramps in your life?
00:04:12.140 It doesn't do shit.
00:04:13.140 I need those ramps.
00:04:14.140 Right?
00:04:15.140 Can we stick to male versus female?
00:04:16.140 That's my question.
00:04:17.140 So I'm thinking male versus female.
00:04:19.140 But my feminism includes ability.
00:04:21.140 It includes race.
00:04:22.140 But my question is for women.
00:04:23.140 You guys can talk.
00:04:24.140 You can talk.
00:04:25.140 You can talk.
00:04:26.140 But what barriers do we need removed?
00:04:27.980 Because that's my statement.
00:04:29.600 I'm not stating anything else.
00:04:30.600 I'm stating women versus men.
00:04:32.600 It's very silly.
00:04:33.600 It's extreme.
00:04:34.600 Why is it silly?
00:04:35.600 It's a fair question.
00:04:36.600 It's not a fair question.
00:04:37.600 It's not a fair question.
00:04:38.600 It's hostile.
00:04:39.600 How is it not a fair question?
00:04:40.600 It's kind of proving the point of why what people, especially black women, other people
00:04:43.800 who are anybody who's not white, why we hear feminism and we don't want that label
00:04:48.660 because it means, I'm just going to say, it means that.
00:04:52.900 Like it means that you've already gone to a pinnacle of whatever you think your happiness
00:04:57.960 needs or whatever your survivalist needs are.
00:05:00.520 And there are people on lower end who are trying to survive, who are trying to get to a point
00:05:05.360 of what should be normal based on what other people have.
00:05:09.760 It sort of sounds like you're saying feminism is not always inclusive then.
00:05:13.300 Right.
00:05:14.300 It's most of the time it's not inclusive.
00:05:16.440 More times than not, it's not.
00:05:18.580 So within the just feminism space, again, obviously the very basic is male versus female versus,
00:05:26.940 but unfortunately we've only had one subset of women be the face and voice and the academics
00:05:33.520 and research and everything to be able to say, well, that's the standard we need to be in
00:05:38.000 when there are other people who are still trying to get to some type of normalcy and just living.
00:05:44.280 As many of you know, I was just banned on Tik Tok and we are demonetized on a daily basis
