00:00:00.000 It's the Kinsella Cast, starring Warren Kinsella.
00:00:20.440 Hey, it's Warren. Welcome to the Kinsella Cast.
00:00:23.320 Happy Easter.
00:00:25.280 I'm a two-year-old, a Christian, and...
00:00:28.860 Happy Passover to those of you who are Jewish, that's coming up.
00:00:34.160 And happy Ramadan to those of you who are Muslim, that has been happening.
00:00:39.440 And happy to everyone who doesn't observe any of those things.
00:00:46.920 Happy also, you can hear in my voice, shit from hell coming back.
00:00:53.720 SFH was back on Friday night.
00:00:57.860 We played at the Bovine Sex Club, which is not a sex club and does not have bovine creatures in it.
00:01:07.300 It's a great rock and roll bar. Best in Canada.
00:01:10.380 And Daryl Fine, the owner, had invited us to open for Richard Lloyd.
00:01:16.260 Who is Richard Lloyd?
00:01:17.920 Some of you ask. Shame of you for asking.
00:01:20.780 Shame on you for asking.
00:01:22.620 Richard Lloyd is, and was, the guitarist along with Tom Verlaine in television.
00:01:30.580 And Verlaine, who passed away last year, sadly, you know, was kind of the center of television.
00:01:39.240 But television, certainly their first album, Marquee Moon, wouldn't have been television without Richard Lloyd.
00:01:45.840 Marquee Moon is one of the greatest records ever made, period.
00:01:48.240 And, um, so Daryl invited us to open for him.
00:01:54.020 And, like, we did.
00:01:55.280 And we were okay.
00:01:56.820 We played for about 100 people or so.
00:01:59.600 And it was fun.
00:02:01.500 It was great to get back up there again.
00:02:04.220 I didn't think I ever would again.
00:02:06.900 You know, when the apocalypse hit and pandemic and all that.
00:02:10.720 And it seemed like, well, that's the end of that.
00:02:13.180 And I'll start painting or knitting or something.
00:02:17.300 But, anyway, there we were.
00:02:18.760 So, next up, we're going to play in Ottawa sometime in the next few weeks because we've got our chops back.
00:02:24.740 And then we may take our show on the road and play Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
00:02:29.500 No, I don't know.
00:02:30.440 But we are going to play Ottawa.
00:02:32.620 So, on this show, I've got something from Marquee Moon.
00:02:37.700 See No Evil.
00:02:39.420 Appropriate these days.
00:02:42.440 And going to kick things off of that.
00:02:44.200 But I've also got The Truth by SFH.
00:02:47.980 A little tune I did, wrote years ago.
00:02:51.020 But, finally, we recorded.
00:02:53.120 Then we got Barney Rubble is My Devil.
00:02:55.400 Which is deep.
00:02:56.360 Which is complex.
00:02:57.640 A song that the Hot Nasties did that everybody has covered.
00:03:01.840 From Nardwar to you name it.
00:03:04.900 And so I've got the original of that.
00:03:07.860 And then maybe close things up with I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone.
00:03:12.440 I think that's a Boy's Heart tune, isn't it?
00:03:15.040 Anyway, Monkeys did it.
00:03:16.920 And we covered it in the Hot Nasties.
00:03:19.620 And so we've got our version of it, which I'll play for you.
00:03:24.060 And then I've got me and Greg Brady.
00:03:27.720 And me and John Liebke.
00:03:30.480 And Charles Adler.
00:03:32.620 I'm leaving everybody else alone because it's Easter.
00:03:35.340 And kind of religious stuff was in my mind because it's the Holy Week.
00:03:41.940 And this is an important day for people.
00:03:44.780 So, religion and bubble zones.
00:03:48.700 Bubble zones work.
00:03:51.600 Buffer zones, safe access zones.
00:03:55.440 They started to show up in the early 90s.
00:03:58.860 And back then, women seeking legal abortions or just seeking advice
00:04:03.260 were routinely being harassed and threatened at clinics and hospitals
00:04:07.720 that provided those legal services.
00:04:10.600 And going back to 84, doctors' offices and abortion clinics in the U.S.
00:04:15.960 and Canada were being attacked.
00:04:18.580 In some cases, bombed.
00:04:20.820 There was one doctor shot to death at a clinic in 93.
00:04:24.000 Then a volunteer murdered the next year again in Florida.
00:04:29.020 And across the U.S. and Canada, women were being threatened and attacked
00:04:32.520 for coming near places that provided safe and legal abortions.
00:04:35.920 In 2000, during the campaign, I spoke to Henry Morgenthaler.
00:04:41.520 And he told me he'd received thousands of death threats over the years
00:04:45.300 and that he and his staff and his patients regularly needed police protection from violence.
00:04:50.840 So, legislatures started to create what are called bubble zones.
00:04:54.440 And basically, that's defined areas where certain activities are against the law.
00:04:59.060 Initially, to protect doctors and nurses and women providing or seeking abortions.
00:05:03.860 But by creating a designated buffer zone around a clinic, police were compelled to act.
00:05:09.020 Like if an anti-abortion lunatic crossed the line, they'd get arrested.
00:05:12.460 Simple.
00:05:13.580 It's now apparent that we need to do likewise in Canada
00:05:17.040 for our 400,000 Jewish brothers and sisters around their places of worship.
00:05:23.340 Like the pro-Hamas Jew-hating mobs have targeted Jewish businesses,
00:05:27.860 community centers, schools, synagogues.
00:05:30.840 And police aren't preventing the attacks a lot of the time.
00:05:35.000 And I don't think they're doing enough to keep the haters away.
00:05:38.200 So, create bubble zones around those places where Jews are most vulnerable, like synagogues.
00:05:43.620 And Quebec, surprisingly, you know, given the provinces' documented problems around
00:05:48.520 anti-Semitism, going back to Arcon and Lionel Grue and you name it,
00:05:52.760 they went first.
00:05:54.220 Like in March, earlier in March, the Quebec Superior Court made history
00:05:57.940 and they ordered that groups associated with extremism,
00:06:02.020 Montreal for Palestine, the Palestine Youth Movement, Alliance for Palestine,
00:06:06.920 stay at least 50 meters away from Jewish institutions
00:06:10.000 in predominantly Jewish areas of Montreal, like NDG, where I used to live,
00:06:14.520 or Coupe de Neige.
00:06:15.320 And then a few days later, Vaughn Mayor Stephen Del Duca proposed the same thing
00:06:20.920 for his city, something similar.
00:06:23.320 He urged counselors in Vaughn to approve a bylaw that would prevent protests
00:06:28.640 near places of worship, not just Jewish ones, schools or child care centers.
00:06:33.940 And the objective, he said, was to stop those who would incite hatred,
00:06:37.700 intolerance, and violence.
00:06:40.060 And his law would keep the Israel haters 100 meters away from designated places,
00:06:45.320 and anybody who violated the law would face a fine up to 100,000 bucks.
00:06:49.940 Now, Toronto Councillor Brad Bradford, who is a friend and I support,
00:06:55.800 he's pushing for a similar law in Canada's biggest city.
00:06:59.760 He wrote to Toronto's, to Ontario's AG, to call for the creation of what he called
00:07:04.460 safety zones around places of worship, but also important social infrastructure.
00:07:09.660 And that's welcome too, right, because the pro-Hamas lunatics have shown their
00:07:14.020 willingness to block major roadways and hospitals.
00:07:18.980 And, you know, he said in his letter about 50% of incidents have been anti-Semitic,
00:07:24.180 and they target Toronto's Jewish community.
00:07:27.380 And so he said, you know, there's been this absence of leadership at City Hall
00:07:30.900 when it comes to ensuring people have the right to practice their faith in peace
00:07:36.640 without fear of violence or persecution.
00:07:39.760 And he said it's got to stop, it has to stop.
00:07:42.720 And he's right.
00:07:43.700 So establishing the safe zones, he said in his letter, would be a meaningful step
00:07:48.220 that would provide another way to stamp out hate and start to restore the type of civility
00:07:52.760 and tolerance we ought to expect in a city like Toronto.
00:07:56.200 So he's right, as are the other leaders in Quebec and Ontario who are taking action.
00:08:02.600 We need to protect people when they are at prayer, when they're at most vulnerable.
00:08:06.640 We need to make neighborhoods feel safe again.
00:08:09.400 And establishing safe zones, as Bradford calls them, would do just that.
00:08:14.220 Will other Canadian leaders, followers lead?
00:08:16.980 I guess we'll find out.
00:08:18.800 But on this holy weekend, providing protection for people at worship,
00:08:25.140 that sounds like a good idea to me.
00:08:38.760 But I was, I won't now.
00:08:44.200 And there's a whole lot more, than anyhow.
00:08:52.360 I want to fly, fly up the phantom.
00:08:58.760 I want to jump, jump, jump, jump, a jump on my turn.
00:09:04.460 I understand all the destructive edges.
00:09:12.920 But this seems so perfect.
00:09:17.400 I see, I see no evil.
00:09:22.160 I get ideas.
00:09:32.660 I get immersion.
00:09:36.900 I want a nice little boat.
00:09:40.860 Made out of a shot.
00:09:44.120 I get your point.
00:09:47.460 You're so sharp.
00:09:49.260 I see, I see no evil.
00:10:14.100 I see, I see, I see.
00:10:44.080 I see, I see.
00:10:44.680 I see, I see, I see.
00:10:49.020 Well, if you've got to say it, let me leave this room.
00:10:53.760 Cause what I want
00:10:57.980 I want now
00:11:00.940 It is all you're for
00:11:04.820 And let me how
00:11:07.000 Get it
00:11:08.320 I understand
00:11:11.820 I understand
00:11:13.040 Disruptive
00:11:15.000 And it seems so fair
00:11:18.900 I see
00:11:21.720 I see no
00:11:23.880 Yuma
00:11:25.940 I want to cry with what I love
00:11:38.340 I want to bring it with what I love
00:11:41.680 I want to feel like
00:11:42.980 What I love
00:11:44.820 I don't feel like
00:11:45.560 I can run into the word
00:11:47.320 I am
00:11:48.540 I want to cry with what I love
00:11:50.160 What I love
00:11:51.380 I have joining me right now author and columnist at the Toronto Sun and National Post, Warren Kinsella, who has a new column that is out.
00:12:17.860 It's entitled, Israel Haters Have Truth in Their Crosshairs.
00:12:21.380 After the October 7th Hamas attack, Warren, how are you?
00:12:25.480 Good, my friend. Thanks for having me on.
00:12:27.460 Thank you so much for joining me here.
00:12:29.400 So I'll let you speak just right off the bat here.
00:12:31.840 What's this column all about?
00:12:33.540 Well, basically, it relates to my political experiences.
00:12:36.280 You know, I was special assistant to Jean Chrétien.
00:12:39.220 I've helped run lots of campaigns over many years.
00:12:42.740 And, you know, when you're in politics for a long time, whether you're a liberal or a Tory or a New Democrat,
00:12:47.200 you get pretty good at spotting money in organization, whether it's at a rally or a protest or a campaign office.
00:12:55.140 You can tell who's got it together and who's got money and who doesn't.
00:12:58.280 And what I noticed almost immediately after the tragedy, the atrocities of October 7th,
00:13:04.480 was the anti-Israel group, who used to be pretty small and ragtag and pretty disorganized,
00:13:12.000 turned into this global propaganda machine with professional-looking graphics
00:13:17.360 and what looked like tested messages and organizers and just an obvious ton of money.
00:13:24.380 And they were doing this on a coordinated global basis.
00:13:27.400 And that's the kind of stuff I can tell you in politics and business, too, does not happen just organically.
00:13:34.200 It doesn't happen spontaneously.
00:13:36.100 So I've been writing about that for months for post-media.
00:13:39.620 And the anti-Israel folks, they don't like it.
00:13:43.980 And, you know, if they object to anything, you know, I could say that they're pro-Hamas.
00:13:48.160 They don't say boo.
00:13:49.200 I could say that they hate Israel, the Jewish state.
00:13:52.020 They don't say anything.
00:13:53.420 Soon as you say that Iran and Qatar and other outlaw nations are funding this type of activity on a global scale,
00:14:03.200 these guys, they go bananas.
00:14:04.620 They lose their mind and they object to that.
00:14:06.880 And so we've been subjected to an AstroTurf campaign at post-media because of what I've been writing.
00:14:12.680 And it tells us we're getting pretty close to our target.
00:14:16.020 You know, I love how you start off the column.
00:14:17.880 And I guess I'm also just a little bit jealous of it as well because you're able to really paint a nice narrative.
00:14:22.780 What's the old military saying you say?
00:14:24.660 You know you're over target when you're taking flack.
00:14:27.680 When you're taking flack.
00:14:28.900 So, you know, as you're close to your target, you know, that's when they're really trying to take you out.
00:14:35.180 And that goes back to World War II when we, the Allies, were fighting to defeat, you know, Nazism and, you know,
00:14:42.700 those who were promoting anti-Semitism again on a massive scale.
00:14:47.140 And the same thing happened here, John, not just for me but for my colleagues too.
00:14:51.760 As soon as you kind of start trying to figure out who the Wizard of Oz is, you know,
00:14:56.520 who's behind the curtain running this show and paying for it because it is a professional propaganda campaign,
00:15:04.400 the likes of which I've never seen in my lifetime.
00:15:06.480 As soon as we start writing about that, that's the thing they get most upset about.
00:15:10.700 And that tells us that, you know, we're getting close to our target.
00:15:13.480 And, you know, it did start pretty well the next day on October the 8th.
00:15:18.680 We saw this very organized, you know, as you said, global campaign.
00:15:24.860 But, you know, as you mentioned in politics, things cost money.
00:15:28.520 Things cost money to actually print placards and signs, for example.
00:15:33.000 And when you see, you know, a lot of people all carrying the same signs in a lot of cases with the same messaging
00:15:38.380 that have been designed and printed,
00:15:41.020 it shows that there is some kind of an organization there
00:15:44.480 because how do you have that all ready to go so quickly?
00:15:48.300 Well, let me tell you a story about one group,
00:15:50.840 just one group that I've written about called the Plenty Collective in Victoria, B.C.
00:15:55.360 You know, it's a typical kind of far-left organization.
00:15:58.900 And they made a mistake.
00:16:00.280 They slipped.
00:16:01.000 And they left their website portal open.
00:16:03.980 And they were advertising that they were prepared to pay people
00:16:07.300 to come and protest against Israel, up to $20,000 a month they were spending on protesters and organizers.
00:16:14.580 And then became implicated other groups on Vancouver Island.
00:16:19.980 And, you know, then I discovered the same thing's happening in New York City
00:16:23.140 and around New York City.
00:16:24.700 It's happening in Montreal.
00:16:25.940 It's happening all around the planet.
00:16:27.660 And I'm not saying that every protester isn't out there on their own.
00:16:31.440 You know, some are.
00:16:32.740 Many are, maybe.
00:16:33.880 But many of them are being paid to be there.
00:16:36.420 So, in effect, they're actors.
00:16:37.940 And it calls into question, you know, the whole operation, how sincere these people are.
00:16:42.820 And I think, you know, that's the thing that whoever the Wizard of Oz is behind the curtain,
00:16:47.960 that's the thing that they want to cover up.
00:16:50.500 So, you're taking all this flack here at Post Media.
00:16:53.520 It's an organized campaign.
00:16:55.360 Will that at all deter your writing and reporting?
00:16:59.640 No, not a chance.
00:17:00.480 So, I've been writing about this stuff, as you know, for more than 30 years.
00:17:03.480 I've had rifles jammed in my chest and multiple bomb threats and death threats and the whole bit.
00:17:08.700 And they haven't got me yet.
00:17:10.520 And it's important this story get told.
00:17:13.480 And because, you know, clearly, there's some terrible things going on.
00:17:17.460 Shooting up the schools, Jewish schools in Montreal.
00:17:20.920 Firebombing of Jewish delicatessen in Toronto.
00:17:24.960 Jewish homes being shot up in Winnipeg.
00:17:27.560 Like, there's terrible things happening across the country.
00:17:30.640 And it's really important that not only journalists write about it and document it and find out what's really going on,
00:17:38.020 but also that citizens speak up and say that we oppose this.
00:17:41.260 We're against this.
00:17:42.020 And hopefully more people do that.
00:17:45.060 You know, what's really concerning about it is, you know, of course, what's happening right now in Gaza that we're seeing is, you know, it's awful.
00:17:52.600 It's tragic.
00:17:53.120 Nobody wants to see the amount of death that's occurring.
00:17:56.040 But this is happening here on our streets.
00:17:59.740 This is happening in Canada.
00:18:01.740 And, you know, we talked about this a little bit the last time that you were on here.
00:18:05.440 But, again, it feels like as if the police have just decided to say, we give up.
00:18:12.220 This is what it's going to be.
00:18:13.740 The streets are going to just be taken over.
00:18:15.580 And, you know, sometimes people are just not going to be able to leave a synagogue or a community center
00:18:19.980 because there are hundreds of people outside that have effectively decided to blockade them inside.
00:18:26.340 I mean, at what point do we collectively decide here as a country to do something?
00:18:32.860 Yesterday.
00:18:33.620 I mean, this long ago, we've passed the point where the authorities need to do more.
00:18:37.880 Like, you know, for people who aren't Jewish who are listening to us right now, just, you know, imagine your grandmother being a church,
00:18:44.160 you know, a Catholic church or a Protestant church or whatever, and coming out, and there's a mob outside on the sidewalk screaming at her that she's a murderer
00:18:53.200 and that she, you know, is involved in genocide and that her religion isn't a real religion.
00:19:00.320 Just imagine if that happened to a member of your family.
00:19:03.680 You'd be pretty upset.
00:19:04.900 And, you know, that's why I think people need to understand what's happening to our brothers and sisters in the Jewish community.
00:19:11.600 They feel isolated.
00:19:12.860 They feel angry.
00:19:13.720 They feel depressed.
00:19:14.720 And it's just critically important that people say, no, we're with you.
00:19:18.440 We're against all of this stuff.
00:19:20.040 And, you know, you don't have to love Benjamin Netanyahu.
00:19:22.840 You don't have to love the government of Israel.
00:19:25.220 I am a big critic of Netanyahu myself.
00:19:28.420 But, you know, it's important that we stand with the Jewish community because they're Canadians like us.
00:19:32.800 Yeah, I mean, we are.
00:19:36.340 We're just here trying to exist as well.
00:19:39.280 You know, I spoke with the prime minister last week or the week before, last week when he was in town in Windsor.
00:19:46.000 And I asked him what the government, what he thinks the government's role is in combating anti-Semitism.
00:19:51.580 And I got to say, I was pretty dismayed by the response that I got because he didn't really say anything other than listing what it is that's already been done.
00:19:59.740 And, you know, the premise of the question here is setting up that, like, you know, things are bad right now.
00:20:02.980 I don't want to hear about what you've done.
00:20:04.320 I want to hear about what you're going to be doing.
00:20:06.520 I've spoken with other Jews in the country who have said, I can't vote for the liberals.
00:20:12.480 I can't vote for the NDP.
00:20:14.300 I don't want to vote for the conservatives.
00:20:16.160 But that seems to be the only place that I can go right now.
00:20:19.520 This is reverberating through our politics.
00:20:21.580 It is, and there's good people, though, in all the parties, and there's a lot of people in all of the parties, you know, who have a 10 year on this thing.
00:20:30.300 But all three levels of government, whether they're liberal, Tory, or New Democrat, have a role to play here.
00:20:36.800 The federal government is the level of government that creates the criminal law.
00:20:40.540 We need to create a criminal law so that we can lay hate charges against somebody who's targeting a synagogue, for example, without getting the permission of the provincial attorney general, which is the case right now.
00:20:52.340 We need, at the provincial level, we need special prosecutors and special courts in the way that they do in the United States who are experts in dealing with this type of criminal activity to stamp it out.
00:21:04.300 That's what other jurisdictions around the world are doing, but we are not.
00:21:07.520 And at the municipal level, we need to make sure that the municipal leaders, whether it's in Toronto, Olivia Chow, or Valerie Plante from Montreal, they have the two biggest problems, are saying to the police, we've got your back.
00:21:19.500 You know, we're not going to tell you what to do, but if you go ahead and lay charges against the people who are doing these things, we're not going to complain.
00:21:26.100 We're not going to say, defund the police.
00:21:28.120 We're going to stand with the police.
00:21:29.280 All three levels of government can and should be doing more because we've got the laws, you know, and in some cases, we've got the resources.
00:21:37.520 They'd deal with it.
00:21:38.560 What we too often lack these days since October 7th is the leadership to deal with it.
00:21:44.040 Yeah, political conviction seems to be lacking.
00:21:46.440 And again, with this Liberal Party right now, they seem that they want to try to be everything everywhere all at once, and they're really just upsetting everyone everywhere all at once.
00:21:54.980 It's a tough situation, but it's especially tough to be living through this time.
00:21:59.000 Hey, Warren, I want to thank you again for your time and for all the work that you do in writing about this subject just personally.
00:22:04.420 Thank you.
00:22:05.280 Thanks, my friend.
00:22:06.060 Thanks for having me.
00:22:06.780 Have a great day.
00:22:07.900 Warren Kinsella is an author and is a columnist with the Post Media Companies, the National Post, as well as Toronto Sun.
00:22:15.980 You say there are no truths, but I would like to call a truce at the risk of sounding quite trite.
00:22:40.540 I don't think you are quite bad.
00:22:42.540 I don't think you are quite bad.
00:22:46.040 The sky, the sky is a ball of truth.
00:23:04.060 And they say, the sky is a ball of truth.
00:23:06.060 And they say, you cannot refute.
00:23:09.920 Locally, the buses run on time.
00:23:16.620 Words, words occasionally.
00:23:21.260 You say there are no truths, but I would like to call a truce at the risk of sounding quite trite.
00:23:23.260 I don't think you are quite trite.
00:23:25.260 You say there are no truths, but I would like to call a truce at the risk of sounding quite trite.
00:23:27.260 I don't think you are quite trite.
00:23:29.260 You say there are no truths, but I would like to call a truce at the risk of sounding quite trite.
00:23:34.260 You say there are no truths, but I would like to call a truce at the risk of sounding quite trite.
00:23:52.260 I don't think you are quite trite.
00:24:22.240 And it'll be really interesting to see how this gets addressed at Toronto City Council.
00:24:27.420 I'll give you the headline.
00:24:29.040 Toronto's overlords.
00:24:30.920 Interesting.
00:24:31.660 I think they were an expansion arena football team way back when.
00:24:34.180 But Toronto's overlords pondering implementation of a rain tax.
00:24:38.480 So what is this rain tax?
00:24:40.560 Will it cost you?
00:24:41.540 And will there be resistance to it among members of council?
00:24:44.980 Warren Kinsella wrote the piece in the Toronto Sun, and he's kind enough to join us now.
00:24:48.900 It's great to have you back on.
00:24:50.360 Thanks for having me.
00:24:51.380 I always make the point the writer doesn't always write the headlines.
00:24:54.240 But anytime I see the word overlord in a headline, I read the story.
00:24:57.660 I've been like that since age five.
00:24:59.180 You give me an overlord and I'm ready to read.
00:25:02.360 Yeah, we were poking a bit of fun at them.
00:25:05.400 But like they're serious.
00:25:07.220 They want, well, they're not calling it a rain tax.
00:25:09.940 They're calling it a stormwater charge and water service charge consultation,
00:25:14.880 which sounds benign and safe and not too offensive.
00:25:19.260 But really what they're talking about is, you know, if rain falls and it lands on a hard surface on your driveway or your roof or whatever,
00:25:27.860 they're going to tax you for it.
00:25:29.180 And I get charging for usage, right?
00:25:31.220 We use power.
00:25:32.160 The more power we use, the more we should probably pay.
00:25:34.620 The more water we use in our own home, we should probably pay for that as well.
00:25:39.120 These are commodities.
00:25:40.280 But to your point, and many people made the point in the comments under the story, Warren,
00:25:44.200 we can't control how much it rains.
00:25:46.540 So why would we get charged accordingly?
00:25:48.860 Yeah.
00:25:49.020 And last time we all checked, rain was supposed to be a good thing.
00:25:52.180 Like it's good.
00:25:53.580 It's good for plant life.
00:25:54.940 It's good for human life and everything else.
00:25:57.800 And it really does seem to be unfair.
00:26:01.620 And, you know, and in fairness to them, there are other municipalities across Canada,
00:26:06.260 including my home province of Alberta, shockingly, who do this.
00:26:10.200 They're doing it already and charging people for rain that, you know, falls and turns into stormwater.
00:26:17.520 But in this case, you know, after a tax increase of 10% in the city of Toronto,
00:26:23.420 biggest in more than a generation, it really seems to be unfair.
00:26:27.940 And, you know, hopefully they reconsider it.
00:26:31.480 Is there a case for the idea that, you know, when I think about, you know,
00:26:36.100 when we want to spend money and we call it, you know, green money,
00:26:39.540 or when we think about what we can do regarding either global warming or climate change,
00:26:44.240 however people want to refer to it, I often say, Warren, there's not much we can do
00:26:47.620 to change the fact that more people on the planet means a warmer planet.
00:26:51.080 But we can sort of tighten up our storm drains are one thing, preventative measures,
00:26:57.420 so that when there are natural disasters, flooding, drought, whatever, we've got, you know,
00:27:02.640 we've got some safeguards.
00:27:04.120 Is there an element of that to this, that this is something that is more a preventative thing
00:27:08.500 than otherwise?
00:27:09.680 Well, if they had said what you just said, you know, I think some people say,
00:27:12.800 okay, well, I'm prepared to look at this.
00:27:14.420 And yeah, there are things people can do.
00:27:16.100 At my house, I've got rain barrels, you know, on every downspout,
00:27:19.400 and I reuse that water for my plants.
00:27:21.760 And everybody should have a sump pump in their basement.
00:27:25.200 They only cost you about 50 bucks.
00:27:27.120 Those are all good things to do.
00:27:28.940 But this really seems to be a reach.
00:27:31.360 And how they're going to calculate it, Greg, is just wacky.
00:27:34.660 They're talking about using aerial photography.
00:27:37.980 So, like, I'm assuming they're going to have drones flying over people's homes.
00:27:42.920 And by the way, this is going to catch everybody.
00:27:44.860 You know, anybody who's renting shouldn't think that they're going to be exempt from this thing.
00:27:49.340 It says quite clearly in the consultation document that they're going to be seeking this payment,
00:27:55.320 this tax from everyone.
00:27:56.620 So, it just looks like it's kind of seat of the pants.
00:28:00.360 And I think, you know, they have tried this before.
00:28:02.880 In 2017, the city bureaucrats tried to push this one through.
00:28:07.860 And John Tory at that point, who, full disclosure, I was helping out at that point,
00:28:13.260 said, no way, you know, this is unfair and crazy.
00:28:17.540 Well, they're back at it, and they're trying again.
00:28:19.660 Do you think there could be enough resistance?
00:28:21.760 If we deem this as a, you know, a left-right issue,
00:28:25.640 is there enough resistance on this particular city council to push back on this tax?
00:28:30.800 Well, you've got some councillors like Brad Bradford are saying no.
00:28:34.260 But, you know, based upon what took place back in the fall and early in this year
00:28:42.000 with the new Toronto, you know, tax, the residential property tax hike that took place,
00:28:47.460 10% just about, I would say the answer is no.
00:28:51.580 You know, there was no kind of popular uprising.
00:28:54.820 And people seemed to shrug and go along with it.
00:28:57.800 So, maybe city council and the bureaucrats think they can get away with this one as well.
00:29:03.020 I hope, hopefully they're wrong.
00:29:04.520 You know your stuff at all levels of politics.
00:29:06.200 Do you think this is something, the premier, who kind of,
00:29:08.940 I thought he was a little bit off the cuff talking about the four plexes last week.
00:29:12.660 Some people say, nah, that's by design when Doug goes off script sometimes.
00:29:16.480 But do you think this feels like the kind of thing a former city councillor like Doug Ford,
00:29:21.500 whose brother was mayor, might have an opinion on?
00:29:24.140 Yeah, I would say so.
00:29:25.540 And he, you know, he's got that built-in political barometer,
00:29:28.820 like my former boss, Krenshaw, did.
00:29:30.840 We have very similar guys.
00:29:32.400 And, you know, they can look at a poll and read it like the rest of us.
00:29:35.780 But their gut, I think, is right 10 times out of 10.
00:29:39.140 So if he feels that this is going too far, and, you know, he's given Olivia Chow as mayor,
00:29:45.840 so-called strong mayor powers, so she can do some things to help the city.
00:29:51.020 But I could easily see Doug Ford saying, you know what, a rain tax is going too far.
00:29:56.280 Got about a minute here, Warren.
00:29:57.040 And how did you think Saturday went in honouring the life and legacy of Brian Mulroney?
00:30:03.520 They obviously didn't get great weather, the snow.
00:30:06.040 I think we all were kind of struck by how careful, you know,
00:30:09.740 the Mounties had to be with the coffin and getting it into the hearse, out of the hearse.
00:30:16.120 It was quite trepidatious.
00:30:18.340 But I just thought, and I thought Caroline Mulroney was simply the star of the proceedings.
00:30:21.800 She was amazing.
00:30:22.380 Yeah, it was sad, you know, because he's one of those guys that you kind of thought,
00:30:28.640 or at least I did, that he would be around forever.
00:30:31.040 And, you know, when I worked for Kretzian, he was the adversary,
00:30:34.080 and we did our level best to just drive him bananas
00:30:37.780 and make his life as miserable politically as possible.
00:30:42.320 It worked.
00:30:43.400 It worked.
00:30:45.020 But, you know, we kind of miss him.
00:30:46.980 Yeah.
00:30:47.220 The baritone and the Irish Blarney.
00:30:50.140 And, like, he really was a giant on the Canadian political stage, but also internationally.
00:30:56.160 So, very sad to see him go, and sad for our friends Ben and other members of the family
00:31:01.980 who lost their dad.
00:31:03.980 You know, he wasn't just a prime minister.
00:31:05.460 He was their dad.
00:31:06.280 What a touching, just a touching tribute.
00:31:08.680 Wayne Gretzky's stories were pointed and funny.
00:31:10.940 And then to hear the booming voice of Brian Mulroney with the song
00:31:16.280 We'll Meet Again as the coffin exits the church.
00:31:19.280 I thought that's just, he'd have loved that.
00:31:21.760 And, obviously, it was by design because of that.
00:31:24.400 Yeah, that was classic Mulroney.
00:31:25.940 The last voice you hear, the last quote you get is from Mulroney.
00:31:30.180 Warren, pleasure talking to you this morning.
00:31:31.660 Thanks so much.
00:31:32.640 Thanks, my friend.
00:31:33.460 There's Warren Kinsella joining us.
00:31:35.500 That rain tax story is in the Toronto Star.
00:31:37.560 Yabba-dabba-doo
00:31:49.820 Yabba-dabba-doo

00:32:21.560 Is my double
00:32:22.900 Barney Rubble
00:32:24.260 Is my double
00:32:25.520 Yeah!
00:32:25.880 Yabba-dabba-dabba-doo
00:32:41.560 Hey, it's Brad!
00:32:43.900 Yabba-dabba-doo
00:32:46.560 Let's go get

00:33:12.920 Warren Kinsella
00:33:17.180 Lawyer
00:33:17.900 Journalist
00:33:18.860 A Roman Catholic
00:33:20.620 A Christian
00:33:21.380 This is the holiest week
00:33:23.640 We're recording this
00:33:24.380 On the holiest week
00:33:25.200 Of the Christian calendar
00:33:26.140 And Warren
00:33:27.040 I just wanted to give you
00:33:28.060 A chance to
00:33:28.800 Talk about what that
00:33:30.000 Means to you
00:33:30.600 Uh
00:33:32.740 Easter
00:33:33.680 Well when you're a kid
00:33:34.700 It means lots of chocolate
00:33:35.820 And
00:33:36.820 And all that stuff
00:33:37.940 And uh
00:33:38.660 Then when I got kids
00:33:39.700 What things to you?
00:33:41.960 Uh
00:33:42.440 Easter
00:33:43.300 Well when you're a kid
00:33:44.340 It means lots of chocolate
00:33:45.460 And
00:33:46.440 And all that stuff
00:33:47.600 And uh
00:33:48.300 Then when I got kids
00:33:49.340 I take them to the
00:33:50.420 The beaches
00:33:51.280 Easter parade
00:33:52.460 Uh
00:33:53.460 Which is happening
00:33:54.220 Again this weekend
00:33:55.360 And uh
00:33:56.880 It's a little
00:33:58.480 Less gimmicky
00:33:59.640 I think
00:34:00.240 Easter
00:34:00.860 Um
00:34:01.700 Should be
00:34:02.280 Than uh
00:34:03.160 Christmas
00:34:03.520 And it's about
00:34:05.460 Renewal
00:34:06.340 And um
00:34:07.500 And
00:34:08.700 Rebirth
00:34:09.720 And um
00:34:11.120 Typically
00:34:11.960 I put a tweet out
00:34:13.200 Saying
00:34:13.680 Um
00:34:14.760 You know
00:34:15.180 To have faith
00:34:16.080 Um
00:34:17.100 Means to have questions
00:34:18.420 Charles
00:34:18.840 In my religion
00:34:20.240 To have faith
00:34:21.580 Doesn't mean just
00:34:22.560 Unquestioning acceptance
00:34:24.000 It means to have
00:34:25.120 Questions
00:34:25.900 And if that's the case
00:34:28.120 I am
00:34:28.760 I am the most
00:34:30.060 Faithful person
00:34:31.320 You can imagine
00:34:32.380 And um
00:34:34.180 You know
00:34:34.740 The thought I put out there
00:34:36.440 Hopefully I didn't
00:34:37.520 Depress people
00:34:38.320 Was uh
00:34:40.180 Something along the lines of
00:34:41.180 Well I don't remember
00:34:42.040 It was nothingness
00:34:43.340 Before I was born
00:34:44.320 I don't recall
00:34:45.220 Anything before I was born
00:34:47.400 My suspicion
00:34:49.020 Has been for a long time
00:34:51.540 That that's what it is
00:34:52.420 After you're dead too
00:34:53.480 It's just
00:34:54.160 An absence of everything
00:34:55.920 And um
00:34:57.680 So I depress the hell
00:34:58.800 Out of people
00:34:59.340 On Easter weekend
00:35:00.300 And I apologize for that
00:35:01.420 But that's
00:35:02.440 Um
00:35:03.020 You know
00:35:03.620 What we're supposed
00:35:04.280 To be reflecting on
00:35:05.540 And it's about the
00:35:06.500 Uh
00:35:07.340 About renewal
00:35:08.120 And rebirth
00:35:08.780 And uh
00:35:09.740 Important time of year
00:35:10.500 And important
00:35:10.980 Uh
00:35:11.920 For their
00:35:12.260 Muslim friends
00:35:13.420 With uh
00:35:14.120 Ramadan
00:35:14.500 And the fast
00:35:16.540 And uh
00:35:17.640 Passover
00:35:18.020 Coming up
00:35:18.620 For our Jewish friends
00:35:19.440 So it's uh
00:35:20.060 It's an important
00:35:20.640 Time of year
00:35:21.200 All right
00:35:22.120 Uh
00:35:22.560 Easter Sunday
00:35:23.640 A celebration
00:35:24.360 Of uh
00:35:24.840 Resurrection
00:35:25.560 Uh
00:35:26.460 Slash renewal
00:35:27.220 King Charles
00:35:28.300 Put out his Easter message
00:35:29.480 And it was about
00:35:30.520 Kindness
00:35:30.960 I wrote a column
00:35:31.520 About it
00:35:31.920 For the
00:35:32.380 Winnipeg Free Press
00:35:33.620 Will be out
00:35:34.100 On the weekend
00:35:34.800 And uh
00:35:36.180 I'm all for
00:35:36.820 Celebrating kindness
00:35:37.720 But I am cynical
00:35:38.840 Enough to think
00:35:39.580 That one of the reasons
00:35:40.380 He's thinking about
00:35:41.660 Kindness
00:35:42.060 Isn't just because
00:35:42.900 Um
00:35:43.720 It's Easter
00:35:44.320 And
00:35:44.920 And resurrection
00:35:45.940 And spring
00:35:46.740 And renewal
00:35:47.240 And all of that
00:35:48.560 Uh
00:35:48.960 I think that he's
00:35:49.760 Thinking about
00:35:50.280 How unkind
00:35:51.080 The world has been
00:35:52.560 Uh
00:35:53.280 To many people
00:35:54.040 Uh
00:35:54.860 Including
00:35:55.380 His
00:35:56.760 His daughter-in-law
00:35:57.600 Kate
00:35:57.980 Um
00:35:58.860 I don't care
00:35:59.860 Whether you come
00:36:00.280 At this from
00:36:00.700 A legal point of view
00:36:01.680 Moral point of view
00:36:02.560 Christian point of view
00:36:03.760 Journalistic point of view
00:36:04.780 But
00:36:05.400 Uh
00:36:06.000 Not just the
00:36:06.880 Murdoch papers
00:36:07.560 But others
00:36:08.200 Around the world
00:36:09.380 Uh
00:36:10.380 Taking a story
00:36:11.280 Of a woman
00:36:11.900 Uh
00:36:12.860 Who had abdominal surgery
00:36:14.560 Which was announced
00:36:15.440 Uh
00:36:16.260 Was not in the public eye
00:36:17.380 For a long period of time
00:36:18.700 And
00:36:19.640 Uh
00:36:19.820 Deciding to
00:36:20.600 Uh
00:36:21.300 Create all kinds of
00:36:22.220 Trashy
00:36:22.700 Conspiracies
00:36:23.720 Albeit
00:36:24.180 I understand
00:36:24.820 That you know
00:36:25.340 They released
00:36:26.380 A photograph
00:36:27.320 That wasn't
00:36:28.380 Uh
00:36:28.600 Wasn't genuine
00:36:29.240 And all of that
00:36:29.820 But I mean
00:36:30.940 Any intelligent person
00:36:32.560 Understands
00:36:33.380 That if a woman
00:36:34.420 Has had abdominal surgery
00:36:35.860 And is
00:36:37.100 Taking herself
00:36:38.140 Out of the public eye
00:36:39.100 It's because
00:36:39.980 Something serious
00:36:40.740 Is going on
00:36:41.440 That's very
00:36:41.780 Very private
00:36:42.340 And at some point
00:36:43.560 She'll make it public
00:36:44.360 On her own time
00:36:45.220 And on her own dime
00:36:46.220 But the cruelty
00:36:47.520 Uh
00:36:48.100 I think
00:36:48.640 Is part of
00:36:49.580 The culture right now
00:36:51.140 It's part of
00:36:51.740 Right wing populism
00:36:52.720 It's part of
00:36:53.740 Journalism
00:36:54.460 It's a part of
00:36:55.820 Probably what we do
00:36:56.940 I'd be surprised
00:36:57.680 If some cruelty
00:36:58.300 Doesn't slip into
00:36:59.420 These podcasts
00:37:00.180 But
00:37:00.380 I wonder Warren
00:37:01.380 If you could think
00:37:01.900 About that
00:37:02.240 I'm going to play
00:37:03.240 Devil's advocate
00:37:03.940 With you
00:37:04.420 Sure
00:37:04.680 Because I know
00:37:05.840 What was happening
00:37:07.280 In our newsrooms
00:37:08.380 And I think
00:37:09.260 Newsrooms
00:37:09.980 Around the world
00:37:10.820 We had a young woman
00:37:12.760 Who
00:37:13.580 Is in the prime of life
00:37:15.780 Who was having
00:37:17.020 Addominal surgery
00:37:18.020 In January
00:37:18.920 And we're almost
00:37:20.320 In the month of April
00:37:21.260 And nobody's seen her
00:37:22.520 So people were wondering
00:37:24.460 What was going on there
00:37:25.580 But the thing
00:37:27.500 That happened
00:37:28.840 Charles
00:37:29.320 Is she manipulated
00:37:30.560 Photographs of herself
00:37:32.000 And her family
00:37:32.780 And she put them
00:37:33.900 Out there
00:37:34.320 And she didn't
00:37:35.280 Disclose
00:37:36.280 That she had
00:37:36.800 Manipulated those photos
00:37:38.060 To the point
00:37:39.540 Where all the major
00:37:41.200 Agencies
00:37:43.360 Had to pull
00:37:44.480 The photograph
00:37:45.360 Because they decided
00:37:46.440 That there had been
00:37:47.120 Deception
00:37:47.700 They
00:37:49.460 To some extent
00:37:50.840 You have to admit
00:37:52.080 That the royal family
00:37:53.700 Brought this
00:37:54.620 On themselves
00:37:55.520 When they put out
00:37:57.000 Deceptive information
00:37:58.980 For guys like you
00:38:00.580 And me
00:38:00.960 Our antenna goes up
00:38:02.240 What's going on
00:38:03.860 And so in our paper
00:38:06.960 We didn't engage
00:38:07.900 In the speculation
00:38:08.560 That the British tabs
00:38:09.900 Do
00:38:10.260 Which always tend
00:38:11.600 To be uniformly cruel
00:38:13.080 But honestly
00:38:14.680 I've seen the piety
00:38:16.160 Since she made her
00:38:17.040 Announcement
00:38:17.520 And I hope she gets
00:38:18.300 Better
00:38:18.640 And fights this
00:38:21.280 Terrible disease
00:38:22.500 And beats it
00:38:23.740 But she did
00:38:25.160 Lie to us
00:38:26.120 And I think
00:38:27.880 It was legitimate
00:38:28.640 For journalists
00:38:29.440 To say
00:38:30.000 Okay
00:38:30.660 What's going on here
00:38:32.740 And
00:38:33.960 You know
00:38:34.860 And finally
00:38:35.200 She came out
00:38:35.740 With that statement
00:38:36.520 And it was a good statement
00:38:38.100 And people feel
00:38:39.340 Badly for her
00:38:40.080 But she lied to us
00:38:41.420 Is it legitimate
00:38:43.260 To conclude
00:38:44.500 From what she did
00:38:45.800 That William
00:38:46.900 Her husband
00:38:47.780 Must be having
00:38:48.340 An affair
00:38:48.740 With somebody
00:38:49.720 No
00:38:50.560 That stuff
00:38:51.140 Well that stuff
00:38:52.060 Stupid
00:38:52.540 All the time
00:38:53.260 Anyway
00:38:53.640 We've heard that
00:38:54.440 About every single
00:38:55.160 Prime minister
00:38:55.780 Every single
00:38:57.140 Prime minister
00:38:57.960 We've ever had
00:38:59.220 Except I think
00:39:01.340 Kim Campbell
00:39:02.460 Because she wasn't married
00:39:04.040 But like
00:39:05.140 Everybody
00:39:05.860 You hear this
00:39:06.740 Kind of bullshit
00:39:07.420 Every president
00:39:08.540 You know
00:39:09.120 And like
00:39:09.920 Who cares
00:39:10.700 Who cares
00:39:11.680 You know
00:39:12.760 So I put a tweet out
00:39:13.640 I put a tweet out
00:39:14.520 Supporting
00:39:15.060 Some of what
00:39:16.180 Nenshi is doing
00:39:16.920 He's one of the
00:39:18.060 Most talented
00:39:19.220 Political athletes
00:39:20.100 In the country
00:39:20.820 He's running for
00:39:21.740 The Albert NDP
00:39:22.960 And I think
00:39:23.600 He could give
00:39:24.240 Danielle Smith
00:39:25.400 A run for her money
00:39:26.160 That makes
00:39:26.660 Some of that story
00:39:28.160 Very interesting for me
00:39:29.040 I put that out
00:39:29.660 And he's at a rally
00:39:31.520 Where he fills the house
00:39:32.980 In Edmonton
00:39:33.800 Which was a
00:39:35.440 Substantially important
00:39:36.620 Thing that happened
00:39:37.340 Because he's
00:39:37.900 Bases Calgary
00:39:38.700 He's proving
00:39:39.520 That he's got
00:39:39.960 Some support
00:39:40.360 In Edmonton
00:39:40.780 It's a big deal
00:39:41.500 I put that out
00:39:42.700 And immediately
00:39:43.900 One of the
00:39:44.780 Replies is
00:39:46.260 Is it me
00:39:47.460 Is it Charles Adler
00:39:48.540 With the oxygen tank
00:39:50.160 In the front row
00:39:51.220 Now
00:39:52.000 All of this
00:39:53.580 Is water
00:39:54.000 Off a duck's back
00:39:54.920 For me
00:39:55.180 Because I've been
00:39:55.660 Called thousands
00:39:56.260 Of things
00:39:56.740 Over the years
00:39:57.480 I do it for a living
00:39:58.520 I'm a professional
00:39:59.240 You get the same
00:40:00.480 That's not the issue
00:40:01.540 The issue to me
00:40:02.660 Is the cruelty
00:40:03.300 It's not about
00:40:05.020 Being cruel to me
00:40:05.900 It's about being cruel
00:40:07.000 To the person
00:40:08.300 The good person
00:40:09.420 Who is involved
00:40:11.220 In democracy
00:40:11.960 Actively involved
00:40:13.300 Shows up
00:40:14.480 And yes
00:40:14.860 He's got an oxygen tank
00:40:16.160 Don't tell me
00:40:17.560 That things
00:40:18.020 Haven't gotten
00:40:18.520 More cruel lately
00:40:19.280 Because I think
00:40:20.380 They have
00:40:20.900 And I think
00:40:21.380 It dovetails
00:40:22.040 With some of
00:40:22.880 What we'll talk
00:40:23.400 About with respect
00:40:24.120 To the Ontario
00:40:25.100 School Board
00:40:25.740 And Facebook
00:40:26.220 And all the rest
00:40:27.380 Of it
00:40:27.560 But the simple
00:40:28.260 Question here
00:40:28.880 Is are things
00:40:30.720 Going to get worse
00:40:31.400 Before they get better
00:40:32.320 In the area
00:40:33.960 Of cruelty
00:40:35.300 In public
00:40:36.700 Communications
00:40:37.440 From regular folks
00:40:39.180 I'm not talking
00:40:39.820 About Donald Trump
00:40:40.520 Here
00:40:40.820 I'm not talking
00:40:41.460 About Pierre Paulie
00:40:42.200 It's about regular folks
00:40:43.460 Cruelty
00:40:43.980 Yeah
00:40:45.120 And people don't like it
00:40:47.300 You know
00:40:47.720 These things
00:40:48.500 Have changed the world
00:40:49.600 And you know
00:40:51.400 They made it
00:40:52.080 The good news
00:40:53.180 Is it's made it easier
00:40:54.480 For us
00:40:55.280 To get information
00:40:57.680 Made it easier
00:40:59.240 For us to communicate
00:41:00.160 With each other
00:41:00.920 It's made it easier
00:41:02.520 For us to do
00:41:03.080 All kinds of things
00:41:03.940 But it's also
00:41:04.920 Made it easy
00:41:05.660 For people
00:41:06.260 To be anonymously cruel
00:41:07.800 Usually those
00:41:08.820 Go hand in hand
00:41:09.760 So
00:41:10.700 I'm going to just
00:41:11.640 Clear my throat
00:41:12.200 So
00:41:15.480 But some people
00:41:16.840 Are taking action
00:41:17.640 Just yesterday
00:41:20.040 All of the major
00:41:21.880 School boards
00:41:22.900 In the province
00:41:23.820 Of Ontario
00:41:24.360 Announced
00:41:24.960 A lawsuit
00:41:26.720 Against
00:41:27.700 Facebook
00:41:28.580 Instagram
00:41:29.780 TikTok
00:41:30.860 And Snapchat
00:41:31.920 And the lawsuit
00:41:33.980 Is for billions
00:41:36.320 And they're taking
00:41:37.860 The position
00:41:38.520 That those platforms
00:41:40.920 Have marginalized
00:41:43.040 And hurt children
00:41:44.880 Made it difficult
00:41:46.040 For children to learn
00:41:47.080 But also
00:41:48.360 Created an environment
00:41:51.320 Of cruelty
00:41:51.980 That's never existed
00:41:52.980 Before in human history
00:41:54.380 Not to this extent
00:41:55.840 And they want damages
00:41:57.240 For it
00:41:57.840 And it's going to be
00:41:59.880 A very tough lawsuit
00:42:01.080 Because you've got to prove
00:42:02.240 As you know
00:42:03.140 What lawyers call
00:42:04.460 Basic causal connection
00:42:08.900 Between the harm
00:42:12.000 And the damages
00:42:14.140 That's going to be
00:42:15.080 Hard to do
00:42:15.880 And of course
00:42:17.120 You know
00:42:17.720 These platforms
00:42:19.220 Are going to hire
00:42:19.920 The best lawyers
00:42:20.740 You can get
00:42:22.040 And they're going to
00:42:23.000 Rag the puck
00:42:23.740 Through the courts
00:42:24.380 As long as they can
00:42:25.420 But I think
00:42:26.500 People are saying
00:42:27.420 Finally
00:42:27.940 We've got to
00:42:28.700 Take steps
00:42:29.180 And even the right
00:42:29.920 Wing is doing
00:42:30.840 Like you know
00:42:31.720 That asshole
00:42:32.440 Abbott
00:42:32.960 In Texas
00:42:35.020 Is doing something
00:42:35.600 DeSantis this week
00:42:36.620 Said
00:42:36.920 We don't want
00:42:38.040 Your kids
00:42:38.520 Having a social
00:42:39.220 Media platform
00:42:40.120 Under the age
00:42:40.840 Of 14
00:42:41.360 God help
00:42:42.920 Him in
00:42:43.240 Enforcing it
00:42:44.520 I don't know
00:42:44.920 How they're going
00:42:45.320 To enforce that
00:42:46.140 But I think
00:42:47.160 On both the right
00:42:48.500 And the left
00:42:49.040 There's a recognition
00:42:49.920 That something
00:42:50.420 Has to be done
00:42:50.860 The House of Representatives
00:42:51.860 A few days ago
00:42:52.880 Democrats
00:42:54.180 And Republicans
00:42:55.380 Said
00:42:56.040 If TikTok
00:42:57.340 Does not change
00:42:58.480 Its ownership structure
00:42:59.960 Because it's
00:43:00.660 Headquartered
00:43:01.260 In the People's
00:43:01.760 Republic of China
00:43:02.600 And terrible things
00:43:04.040 Are coming out
00:43:04.800 Of TikTok
00:43:05.580 Aimed at democracy
00:43:06.980 And at people
00:43:07.940 Then they're going
00:43:09.760 To ban TikTok
00:43:10.580 In the United States
00:43:11.360 So I think
00:43:12.200 People are taking action
00:43:13.400 So I guess
00:43:13.900 Apologies for the
00:43:15.240 Long answer
00:43:15.740 To a short question
00:43:17.220 But the second
00:43:18.260 Part of your question
00:43:19.100 Is it possible
00:43:20.980 That things could change
00:43:21.840 I believe so
00:43:22.780 I think that people
00:43:23.760 Are now saying
00:43:24.440 Enough is enough
00:43:25.240 No need for apologies
00:43:27.480 You know
00:43:28.020 This isn't an interview
00:43:28.900 This isn't one of those
00:43:29.720 Sterile press conferences
00:43:31.280 In Ottawa
00:43:31.760 Or Washington
00:43:32.380 This is a conversation
00:43:34.080 Between two
00:43:35.060 Professional conversationalists
00:43:37.060 So Warren
00:43:38.080 The next question
00:43:39.440 Becomes
00:43:39.800 I think everyone
00:43:40.400 Listening
00:43:40.820 Is asking
00:43:41.880 Are you confident
00:43:45.000 That we're going
00:43:46.340 To be sucking
00:43:46.900 Cruelty out of the culture
00:43:48.200 Or do you think
00:43:49.620 That it's much more likely
00:43:50.580 That cruelty
00:43:51.140 Which is way too cool
00:43:52.720 Right now
00:43:53.260 Is going to become
00:43:54.440 Even more cool
00:43:55.100 Well cruelty
00:43:56.420 Is like racism
00:43:57.280 You know
00:43:58.060 It's like Christ's tension
00:43:59.360 It's hard for them
00:44:00.360 To dominate the discourse
00:44:01.660 And so these things
00:44:03.480 And the internet
00:44:05.200 Helped them do that
00:44:06.400 So for no cost
00:44:09.000 They could globally
00:44:10.200 Be cruel
00:44:11.800 On an immediate basis
00:44:13.660 That's never happened
00:44:15.160 Before in history
00:44:16.600 So that's empowered them
00:44:18.420 So we're seeing that
00:44:19.760 With the convoy
00:44:21.420 Occupiers in Ottawa
00:44:22.800 We're seeing that
00:44:24.160 During COVID
00:44:24.960 The attacks on doctors
00:44:26.280 And nurses
00:44:26.960 And people just say
00:44:28.380 Hey I'm happy
00:44:29.220 I just got a vaccination
00:44:30.200 And now we're seeing
00:44:31.340 With the attacks on Jews
00:44:32.640 Like it's
00:44:34.360 It moves around
00:44:35.400 This cruelty
00:44:36.280 It shapeshifts
00:44:37.680 But it is
00:44:39.180 Been licensed
00:44:40.140 By the new technologies
00:44:42.520 And made easier to do
00:44:44.280 By the new technologies
00:44:46.060 So there's no need
00:44:47.380 For me to get into names
00:44:48.460 But whether it's
00:44:49.220 On social media
00:44:50.140 Or in real life now
00:44:51.480 I'm noticing people
00:44:52.860 Who are
00:44:53.280 I would say
00:44:54.380 Total amateurs
00:44:55.420 Doing snark
00:44:56.440 Doing satire
00:44:58.080 Lampooning
00:44:59.140 They're just regular folks
00:45:00.340 And it just seems to me
00:45:02.160 That they're trying
00:45:03.020 To be cruel
00:45:03.800 They're faking it
00:45:05.200 To some extent
00:45:05.880 Because cruelty
00:45:07.080 Has become part
00:45:08.060 Of the discourse
00:45:09.280 Part of the language
00:45:10.640 And I think that
00:45:12.200 If leaders were to come
00:45:14.180 Out and say
00:45:14.580 You know
00:45:14.760 It's no longer cool
00:45:15.660 I think it would
00:45:16.620 Give these people a break
00:45:17.740 I'm talking about
00:45:18.320 Some of them are young
00:45:19.000 And some are middle aged
00:45:20.600 But this
00:45:20.980 This idea
00:45:22.080 That the only way
00:45:22.740 You can participate
00:45:23.600 And be noticed
00:45:24.500 Is to be cruel
00:45:25.580 Is something
00:45:26.440 I'd love to say goodbye
00:45:27.400 To in 2024
00:45:28.340 But I'm not
00:45:29.340 I'm just not optimistic
00:45:30.700 That we can do that
00:45:31.900 No
00:45:33.080 It's become
00:45:34.060 Part of the lingua franca
00:45:35.700 It's become
00:45:36.400 Part of the discourse
00:45:38.060 It's become acceptable
00:45:39.900 A racist
00:45:41.880 Sexist
00:45:42.960 Rapist
00:45:43.960 Was elected
00:45:45.360 The most powerful man
00:45:46.740 On the planet
00:45:47.580 In 2016
00:45:48.860 That remarkable achievement
00:45:52.140 Happened
00:45:53.180 Because he perfected cruelty
00:45:55.620 Right
00:45:56.440 There's a lot of angry people
00:45:57.600 Out there
00:45:58.020 There's a lot of cruel people
00:45:59.120 Out there
00:45:59.620 And he spoke to them
00:46:01.280 He connected with them
00:46:03.180 He said
00:46:04.120 Look
00:46:04.420 I'm going to say
00:46:05.660 Whatever we're all thinking
00:46:07.100 No boundaries
00:46:08.500 No limits
00:46:09.360 And it's become
00:46:12.800 A powerful force
00:46:13.980 In society
00:46:14.860 It's unchristian
00:46:16.540 To get back to the theme
00:46:17.920 Of this weekend
00:46:18.760 And we need to wrestle it
00:46:22.840 To the ground
00:46:23.400 I was with some Jewish friends
00:46:26.360 This week
00:46:26.980 And we were talking about this
00:46:28.560 And they were just despairing
00:46:30.180 Of what they are seeing
00:46:31.460 You know
00:46:32.180 Tax on synagogues
00:46:33.580 And schools
00:46:34.100 Where little Jewish kids go
00:46:35.520 And Jewish delicatessens
00:46:37.460 And houses in Winnipeg
00:46:39.080 Being shot up
00:46:40.180 And firebombed
00:46:41.220 And I said
00:46:42.200 Well we've got to get to work
00:46:43.160 And it's not going to be easy
00:46:44.640 But we have to push back
00:46:46.380 As a society
00:46:47.500 Because if we don't
00:46:48.540 We will lose society
00:46:49.660 We will lose civilization
00:46:51.420 So on the piece of Trump
00:46:54.980 He's having to raise money
00:46:56.820 Because he owes hundreds of millions of dollars
00:47:00.860 For lawsuits
00:47:01.980 And it just seems that most of the time
00:47:04.760 He's campaigning
00:47:05.720 To make as much money as possible
00:47:09.900 To pay off the various fines
00:47:12.660 The bonds
00:47:13.160 Once again
00:47:13.980 I don't want to get into all the details
00:47:15.640 Of the various court cases
00:47:17.240 He's got 81 counts
00:47:20.100 Criminal counts
00:47:21.420 Against him right now
00:47:22.240 And then he's got all the civil business
00:47:23.460 To deal with
00:47:24.420 The point is
00:47:24.880 He's having to spend a lot of money on lawyers
00:47:26.560 So he's raising money
00:47:27.740 One of the ways he's raising money
00:47:29.400 On the holiest week
00:47:30.680 Of the Christian calendar
00:47:31.480 To revert to that
00:47:32.980 For a moment
00:47:33.620 Is selling Bibles
00:47:34.820 For about $60
00:47:36.120 He says he wants to make America pray again
00:47:38.920 And there is some evidence
00:47:40.440 That he is succeeding
00:47:41.960 In selling Bibles
00:47:43.780 To Christians
00:47:45.420 Please explain to me
00:47:47.320 From a Christian perspective
00:47:48.320 How any
00:47:49.240 Bible-believing Christian
00:47:51.580 Could see
00:47:53.000 Donald Trump
00:47:54.000 As a fellow
00:47:55.180 I get that
00:47:56.300 Fundamentalist Christians
00:47:58.140 And others
00:47:58.520 Want Donald Trump
00:48:00.240 To be appointing judges
00:48:01.600 To make sure that judges
00:48:02.780 Rule the way they want
00:48:03.780 On various social
00:48:04.920 Conservative issues
00:48:05.660 Like abortion
00:48:06.180 I understand the utilitarian
00:48:07.820 Aspect of it
00:48:08.600 But I'm talking about
00:48:09.820 A Bible-believing Christian
00:48:11.180 Actually wanting
00:48:12.040 A Bible
00:48:13.080 Signed by Donald Trump
00:48:14.320 That seems
00:48:15.220 Over the Christian top
00:48:16.560 To me
00:48:16.880 Yeah
00:48:17.540 Because they're
00:48:18.020 Fucking morons
00:48:18.900 They're idiots
00:48:20.240 They're fools
00:48:21.760 And we've seen this
00:48:23.660 With the depth
00:48:24.820 Of support
00:48:26.300 He's got
00:48:26.900 With evangelical
00:48:28.140 American
00:48:29.320 Christians
00:48:30.520 Like
00:48:32.140 Even after
00:48:33.420 You know
00:48:34.480 The Access Hollywood
00:48:35.660 Tape came out
00:48:36.620 About
00:48:36.920 With him
00:48:37.500 Saying he wants to
00:48:38.520 Grab women
00:48:39.160 As we
00:48:39.780 Grab women
00:48:40.420 By the
00:48:41.040 Pussy
00:48:41.620 As he put it
00:48:42.440 And you know
00:48:44.560 That he was
00:48:45.480 Found liable
00:48:46.460 For raping
00:48:47.560 A woman
00:48:48.020 And has been
00:48:49.620 Credibly
00:48:50.280 Associated with
00:48:51.440 Multiple
00:48:52.020 Sexual assaults
00:48:53.300 They've stayed
00:48:53.700 With him
00:48:54.060 Those people
00:48:55.620 Are not Christians
00:48:56.300 In my view
00:48:57.020 They may use
00:48:58.640 They may use the name
00:48:59.040 They may style
00:48:59.740 Themselves as such
00:49:00.800 But they're not
00:49:01.680 Christians
00:49:02.040 They would say
00:49:03.000 Well Warren
00:49:03.900 You know
00:49:04.780 The principle
00:49:05.620 Of Christ
00:49:06.300 Is
00:49:07.100 You know
00:49:08.500 Forgiveness
00:49:09.040 Turn the other cheek
00:49:10.120 Always forgive
00:49:11.280 Always forgive
00:49:12.120 And that is true
00:49:14.300 Christ did say that
00:49:15.740 But Christ also said
00:49:17.340 To have judgment
00:49:18.480 And to possess
00:49:20.720 Critical faculties
00:49:22.240 And to assess
00:49:23.660 Right
00:49:24.380 Certainly treat your
00:49:25.420 Neighbor like you'd
00:49:26.520 Like to be treated
00:49:27.180 Yourself
00:49:27.800 But don't be stupid
00:49:29.660 And these people
00:49:32.180 In my view
00:49:32.920 Are stupid
00:49:33.820 So if you buy a
00:49:35.180 Bible from
00:49:35.820 Donald Trump
00:49:36.420 Maybe somebody
00:49:37.080 Wants to sell it
00:49:37.880 On eBay one day
00:49:39.460 Or four times
00:49:41.120 As much dough
00:49:41.800 So maybe that's
00:49:43.100 The motivation
00:49:43.760 But anybody
00:49:45.140 Who believes
00:49:45.860 That that son of a
00:49:46.720 Bitch
00:49:47.000 Adheres to even
00:49:49.020 One Christian
00:49:49.900 Principle
00:49:50.520 Is on drugs
00:49:51.780 They're out of
00:49:52.440 Their minds
00:49:52.920 Because he does not
00:49:54.080 Rent
00:49:56.020 Is a situation
00:49:57.840 That's becoming
00:49:58.680 More and more
00:49:59.360 Difficult in this
00:49:59.940 Country
00:50:00.220 Especially for
00:50:01.220 Millennials
00:50:01.740 The percentage
00:50:02.380 Of increases
00:50:03.780 In rent
00:50:04.300 And mortgage
00:50:05.280 Payments
00:50:05.640 For that matter
00:50:06.200 Has gone up
00:50:07.240 Much more
00:50:08.640 In the last
00:50:09.060 Ten years
00:50:09.740 Than in any
00:50:11.040 Previous time
00:50:12.360 I could be
00:50:13.260 Out by a
00:50:14.380 Follicle
00:50:14.940 And a syllable
00:50:15.760 It doesn't matter
00:50:16.720 Basically rent
00:50:18.140 Is going up
00:50:18.660 At a faster rate
00:50:19.840 Now than it
00:50:20.480 Has been before
00:50:21.160 And therefore
00:50:22.020 Millennials are
00:50:22.700 Taking it in the
00:50:23.540 Chin and they're
00:50:24.020 The ones who are
00:50:24.540 Most reactive to it
00:50:26.140 Obviously that
00:50:26.880 Creates a problem
00:50:27.780 Among many
00:50:28.460 For the Liberal
00:50:29.440 Party because
00:50:30.260 Millennials are the
00:50:31.340 Largest demographic
00:50:32.440 And if the
00:50:32.960 Millennials go
00:50:34.560 Against you
00:50:35.160 It's kind of over
00:50:36.320 The polls
00:50:37.460 Do say at the
00:50:38.200 Moment that
00:50:38.600 It looks like
00:50:39.220 It's over
00:50:39.920 For the
00:50:41.060 Liberal government
00:50:41.980 As soon as
00:50:42.480 There's an
00:50:42.820 Election
00:50:43.080 What about
00:50:44.060 This idea
00:50:44.720 Though
00:50:45.020 Of the
00:50:46.480 Prime Minister
00:50:47.160 This week
00:50:47.680 Talking about
00:50:48.840 A rental
00:50:50.400 Bill of
00:50:51.640 Rights
00:50:52.400 I mean
00:50:53.220 When you're
00:50:53.580 Talking about
00:50:54.080 Rental rights
00:50:54.960 And all of
00:50:56.620 That
00:50:56.840 You're talking
00:50:57.560 About something
00:50:58.020 Legal
00:50:58.440 Do you have
00:50:59.260 Any sense
00:50:59.920 That legislation
00:51:00.880 Is coming up
00:51:01.740 That this is
00:51:02.200 Actually
00:51:02.600 Something along
00:51:03.640 The lines
00:51:04.020 Of charter
00:51:04.440 Of rights
00:51:04.880 Or is this
00:51:05.920 Much more
00:51:06.960 Of just
00:51:07.300 A political
00:51:09.480 Football
00:51:09.920 It's a
00:51:11.740 Political game
00:51:12.580 He's calling
00:51:13.640 It a
00:51:13.980 Renters
00:51:14.560 Bill of
00:51:15.040 Rights
00:51:15.400 It's like
00:51:15.820 Hey why don't
00:51:16.260 You call it
00:51:16.620 A charter
00:51:17.040 Of rights
00:51:17.460 While you're
00:51:17.900 At it
00:51:18.300 Like he
00:51:19.440 Can't do
00:51:20.220 This
00:51:20.700 No
00:51:21.320 Prime
00:51:21.760 Minister
00:51:22.120 Can do
00:51:22.600 This
00:51:23.000 Rental
00:51:24.260 Renting
00:51:25.360 Renters
00:51:26.400 Are
00:51:27.180 Exclusively
00:51:28.200 Completely
00:51:29.240 The jurisdiction
00:51:30.320 Of the
00:51:31.200 Provinces
00:51:31.880 And below
00:51:32.360 The provinces
00:51:33.000 The
00:51:33.320 Municipalities
00:51:33.620 The federal
00:51:34.820 Government
00:51:35.300 Has no
00:51:36.200 Power
00:51:36.680 Whatsoever
00:51:37.280 In this
00:51:37.700 Way
00:51:38.000 And he's
00:51:38.780 Saying well
00:51:39.140 We're going
00:51:39.420 To develop
00:51:39.840 A national
00:51:40.400 Standard
00:51:40.820 Lease
00:51:41.100 Agreement
00:51:41.420 Every
00:51:42.260 Single
00:51:42.580 Province
00:51:43.040 And territory
00:51:43.720 Charles
00:51:44.060 Has already
00:51:44.480 Got a
00:51:44.820 Standard
00:51:45.120 Lease
00:51:45.400 Agreement
00:51:45.780 He said
00:51:46.500 He's
00:51:46.720 Going to
00:51:47.100 Require
00:51:47.780 Landlords
00:51:48.360 To
00:51:48.620 Disclose
00:51:49.740 An apartment's
00:51:50.420 Pricing
00:51:50.780 History
00:51:51.140 That's
00:51:52.040 The
00:51:52.300 Responsibility
00:51:52.960 Of provinces
00:51:53.660 And he
00:51:55.060 Says he's
00:51:55.580 Going to
00:51:56.220 Create a
00:51:56.680 Fund
00:51:56.940 For legal
00:51:57.460 Aid
00:51:57.780 So you
00:51:58.380 Can go
00:51:58.680 After
00:51:58.960 Your
00:51:59.240 Landlord
00:51:59.880 And again
00:52:00.580 The provinces
00:52:01.520 Already
00:52:01.940 Do that
00:52:02.520 This is
00:52:03.520 An election
00:52:04.080 Year
00:52:04.440 Stunt
00:52:04.960 Historically
00:52:06.720 New Democrats
00:52:08.040 And you
00:52:08.520 And I
00:52:08.720 Know this
00:52:09.300 You
00:52:09.900 And Winnipeg
00:52:10.680 And me
00:52:11.020 And Toronto
00:52:11.560 And Vancouver
00:52:12.440 New Democrats
00:52:13.940 Always zero
00:52:15.040 In on the
00:52:15.900 Rental voter
00:52:16.840 Right
00:52:17.420 Because that's
00:52:18.020 Their voter
00:52:18.680 And they
00:52:20.220 Pay attention
00:52:20.820 To this
00:52:21.320 At the
00:52:21.580 Municipal
00:52:22.080 And provincial
00:52:22.700 Level
00:52:22.980 And they
00:52:23.620 Should
00:52:23.920 Their right
00:52:24.440 To do
00:52:24.780 So
00:52:25.060 They have
00:52:25.960 The jurisdiction
00:52:26.780 They've got
00:52:27.580 The legal
00:52:28.260 Presence
00:52:29.040 That requires
00:52:30.300 Them in
00:52:30.960 That space
00:52:31.660 The federal
00:52:32.440 Government
00:52:32.920 Does not
00:52:33.640 And so
00:52:34.860 Along with
00:52:35.580 Being dishonest
00:52:36.680 My objection
00:52:37.720 To this
00:52:38.280 Is it is
00:52:38.960 An election
00:52:39.420 Year in
00:52:39.780 Quebec
00:52:40.060 You and I
00:52:40.540 Have also
00:52:40.900 Lived in
00:52:41.260 The province
00:52:41.640 Of Quebec
00:52:42.080 The party
00:52:43.480 That is
00:52:43.860 Number one
00:52:44.380 With a
00:52:44.680 Bullet
00:52:44.880 It's a
00:52:45.320 Parts
00:52:45.600 Quebecois
00:52:46.680 Separatist
00:52:47.400 Party
00:52:47.740 It is
00:52:48.560 Kicking
00:52:48.960 The ass
00:52:49.440 Of the
00:52:49.680 CAQ
00:52:50.220 Who is
00:52:50.420 Currently
00:52:50.780 The government
00:52:51.360 And the
00:52:53.660 Parts
00:52:53.880 Quebecois
00:52:54.380 Is going
00:52:54.620 To form
00:52:54.880 The next
00:52:55.200 Government
00:52:55.580 Doing
00:52:57.160 Something like
00:52:57.840 This
00:52:58.120 A stunt
00:52:58.880 That is
00:52:59.360 So provocative
00:53:00.220 To the
00:53:00.660 Provinces
00:53:01.240 You know
00:53:01.560 Forget about
00:53:01.960 The carbon
00:53:02.360 Tax thing
00:53:03.000 That he's
00:53:03.600 Got everybody
00:53:04.120 Mad about
00:53:04.720 As well
00:53:06.180 This is
00:53:07.800 Setting off
00:53:08.680 A firestorm
00:53:09.420 In the
00:53:09.700 Provinces
00:53:10.060 Quebec
00:53:10.280 And I
00:53:11.040 Do not
00:53:11.400 Understand
00:53:11.800 Why he's
00:53:12.280 Doing it
00:53:12.640 Because the
00:53:12.900 One province
00:53:13.440 Where he's
00:53:13.800 Still competitive
00:53:14.480 Is Quebec
00:53:15.360 It's just
00:53:16.160 Silly
00:53:17.280 Absolute
00:53:18.180 Nonsense
00:53:18.940 So
00:53:20.220 Take me
00:53:21.160 To Quebec
00:53:21.660 You were
00:53:22.220 Born in
00:53:22.560 Quebec
00:53:22.740 I was
00:53:23.280 When I was
00:53:23.800 Brought to
00:53:24.100 Canada
00:53:24.360 I was
00:53:24.600 Raised in
00:53:25.060 Quebec
00:53:25.740 Before I
00:53:26.480 Moved to
00:53:26.780 Ontario
00:53:27.140 And then
00:53:27.460 Western
00:53:27.800 Canada
00:53:28.180 So we
00:53:29.340 Both have
00:53:29.820 You know
00:53:30.640 Our
00:53:31.040 History
00:53:33.400 With Quebec
00:53:34.460 It's not
00:53:34.900 Very difficult
00:53:35.660 For us
00:53:36.060 To figure
00:53:36.660 Out
00:53:37.000 Why people
00:53:38.640 Are crazy
00:53:39.320 For the
00:53:39.680 CAQ
00:53:40.160 For about
00:53:40.760 A decade
00:53:41.160 Then they
00:53:41.600 Move on
00:53:42.080 Just as
00:53:42.740 They are
00:53:43.080 In
00:53:43.280 Canada
00:53:43.720 They're
00:53:43.980 Crazy
00:53:44.220 About the
00:53:44.620 Conservatives
00:53:45.300 For a
00:53:45.540 Decade
00:53:45.800 Then they
00:53:46.040 Move on
00:53:46.500 Crazy
00:53:46.940 About the
00:53:47.220 Liberals
00:53:47.480 They move
00:53:47.780 On
00:53:48.020 It's kind
00:53:48.500 Of the
00:53:48.620 Way
00:53:48.760 Canadians
00:53:49.780 And Quebecers
00:53:50.780 Play the
00:53:51.880 Game
00:53:52.060 After a
00:53:52.420 While
00:53:52.560 No matter
00:53:52.860 What you're
00:53:53.200 Doing
00:53:53.380 You get
00:53:53.680 Put in
00:53:53.960 The
00:53:54.100 Penalty
00:53:54.520 Box
00:53:54.800 But my
00:53:56.480 Question is
00:53:57.080 About the
00:53:57.420 Intersection
00:53:57.980 Of the
00:53:58.420 Parti
00:53:58.720 Quebecois
00:53:59.180 Politics
00:53:59.660 And
00:54:00.260 Bloc
00:54:00.460 Quebecois
00:54:00.980 Politics
00:54:01.320 Because I'll
00:54:02.100 Always
00:54:02.340 Maintain
00:54:02.740 That the
00:54:04.340 Liberals
00:54:04.640 Chief
00:54:04.960 Opponent
00:54:05.300 In the
00:54:05.860 Province
00:54:06.180 Of Quebec
00:54:06.680 Is not
00:54:07.760 The
00:54:08.020 Conservative
00:54:08.420 Party
00:54:08.800 Which has
00:54:09.200 Absolutely
00:54:09.620 No
00:54:09.880 Provincial
00:54:10.720 Base
00:54:10.960 There is
00:54:11.260 No
00:54:11.380 Provincial
00:54:11.800 Conservative
00:54:12.260 Party
00:54:12.600 And to
00:54:13.300 The extent
00:54:13.660 That the
00:54:14.200 Conservative
00:54:14.560 Party
00:54:14.920 Is organized
00:54:15.740 In Quebec
00:54:16.740 They're only
00:54:17.540 Organized in
00:54:18.180 A few
00:54:18.920 Ridings
00:54:19.340 Primarily in
00:54:19.920 The Quebec
00:54:20.220 City area
00:54:20.800 So the
00:54:21.740 Conservative
00:54:22.280 Cause if you
00:54:23.540 Will
00:54:23.740 In Quebec
00:54:24.980 For the
00:54:25.300 Most part
00:54:25.800 Is the
00:54:26.480 Bloc
00:54:26.660 Quebecois
00:54:27.300 Does the
00:54:28.280 Bloc
00:54:28.460 Quebecois
00:54:29.060 Gain
00:54:29.520 Power
00:54:29.960 For a
00:54:30.420 Federal
00:54:30.620 Election
00:54:30.980 If the
00:54:31.780 Parti
00:54:32.140 Quebecois
00:54:32.820 Is already
00:54:33.360 In power
00:54:33.940 Does it
00:54:34.540 Help or
00:54:35.000 Hurt
00:54:35.200 The
00:54:36.420 Liberals
00:54:36.680 Chief
00:54:36.900 Opponent
00:54:37.760 It's
00:54:38.340 Happened
00:54:38.660 Before
00:54:39.080 Where the
00:54:39.660 Parti
00:54:39.900 Quebecois
00:54:40.500 Has been
00:54:41.040 In power
00:54:41.480 And the
00:54:41.800 Bloc
00:54:42.080 Has been
00:54:42.540 Surging
00:54:43.100 And we
00:54:44.280 Certainly
00:54:44.600 Saw that
00:54:45.120 When the
00:54:45.420 Conservative
00:54:45.840 Party
00:54:46.220 Blew up
00:54:46.900 In the
00:54:48.200 Moroni
00:54:48.600 Years
00:54:49.160 I mean
00:54:50.000 I know
00:54:50.380 He had
00:54:50.680 Some
00:54:50.860 Overlap
00:54:51.360 With
00:54:51.560 Charest
00:54:51.980 And the
00:54:53.320 Parti
00:54:54.140 Liberale
00:54:54.680 In the
00:54:54.940 Provinces
00:54:55.320 Quebec
00:54:55.540 But you
00:54:56.960 Know
00:54:57.040 They're
00:54:57.220 Like the
00:54:57.560 NDP
00:54:58.000 The
00:54:58.460 Bloc
00:54:58.820 And the
00:54:59.540 Parti
00:54:59.780 Quebecois
00:55:00.360 They are
00:55:01.500 Expressions
00:55:02.500 Of each
00:55:02.840 Other
00:55:03.120 Like the
00:55:04.260 New
00:55:04.440 Democratic
00:55:04.920 Party
00:55:05.300 In
00:55:05.460 Alberta
00:55:05.820 Is
00:55:06.120 Actually
00:55:06.540 Formally
00:55:07.500 Connected
00:55:08.040 To the
00:55:08.340 National
00:55:08.840 New
00:55:09.240 Democratic
00:55:09.680 Party
00:55:10.000 Which
00:55:10.280 Makes
00:55:10.500 For some
00:55:10.840 Interesting
00:55:11.180 Dinner
00:55:11.560 Conversations
00:55:12.380 I can
00:55:13.040 Tell
00:55:13.280 You
00:55:13.460 So
00:55:14.340 But they're
00:55:15.960 Back
00:55:16.360 For the
00:55:16.720 Reason
00:55:17.000 You
00:55:17.200 Just
00:55:17.420 Cited
00:55:17.760 You
00:55:18.500 Know
00:55:18.620 The
00:55:18.820 CQ
00:55:19.560 And
00:55:19.900 Lago
00:55:20.160 Have
00:55:20.360 Been
00:55:20.460 There
00:55:20.640 For
00:55:20.820 A
00:55:20.920 Long
00:55:21.100 Time
00:55:21.440 And
00:55:21.620 People
00:55:21.840 Are
00:55:21.980 Sick
00:55:22.180 Of
00:55:22.300 His
00:55:22.420 Face
00:55:22.780 And
00:55:23.960 So
