I m not happy with the outcome of the election, but here s a little bit of what I said to folks at the end of the rally I spoke at. I m also playing for you a ton of interviews I did this week on the outcome, which obviously I'm not happy about.
00:18:29.720Oh, there wouldn't be a friend if you were. It was something. There wouldn't be a friend if you were. It was something. There wouldn't be a friend if it wasn't worth it.
00:18:47.500It's over. There is certainty. Donald Trump has won the presidency for the second time in the United States of America.
00:19:14.600This hour, the Harris campaign and those who worked on it, Peter Mansbridge, Scott Reed, and from the Reagan era, Ed Rollins on what has happened in America.
00:21:59.220Well, I have a million thoughts, so we don't have time for all million of them.
00:22:02.640But looking, first of all, it is good for the country, if Trump's going to win, that he won not only in the Electoral College, but he won the majority of the popular vote.
00:22:13.200So there is no doubt that America wanted him, and he can go into power knowing that, and the world will know that, rather than that split verdict of eight years ago.
00:24:24.540My personal view is, because I've been through this before, because I worked for Hillary eight years ago as well, as a foreign national, just as a volunteer, is I think there's some sexism in the mix.
00:24:37.640I think it's pretty tough to become president of the United States if you're a woman.
00:24:40.700We've talked about that, and there's a reality there.
00:24:45.100You know, it wasn't so long ago I woke up and realized, boy, the world seems to be more sexist than I thought.
00:24:51.840I thought we'd passed it and more racist than we thought.
00:24:54.960John, how true is that statement, and how do you think that that has to be taken into account today?
00:25:00.720I mean, it's got to be, and Warren said it, but I'll add on to it.
00:25:07.120A sexist, but it's not only just that she's a woman, but that she's a black woman in an interracial marriage.
00:25:13.760And maybe that doesn't play in those red areas that are all over the American map.
00:25:20.260I don't know, but we're going to have to look at this.
00:25:23.800And I said it to you off the air because we're friends, and it's a horrible thought, but this is two out of three times.
00:25:31.100Now, the Democrats have nominated a woman for president, thought she was going to win.
00:25:36.040Election night, oh, my God, look what happens, and they get beat.
00:25:39.900And I don't think they're going to nominate another woman for a long time.
00:26:10.860And, you know, there's no question that after the pandemic, Americans like Canadians were finding that things were just too expensive.
00:26:19.160You know, when you fill up the car or you go to get groceries or you pay the rent and pay the mortgage, it's been expensive, and people are grouchy about it.
00:26:54.820We've never had a president like this before.
00:26:57.740And so I think there's a bunch of stuff in the mix, because at the end of the day, don't forget, Republicans took the Senate, and they're on the way to taking the House of Representatives, too.
00:27:07.000So this was like the American public took the steering wheel, and they just yanked it to the right.
00:27:11.880And I think that's something that's happening around the world.
00:27:44.300Is this a clear, strong vote for Donald Trump and everything he stands for?
00:27:50.980How should the world look at this decision that America has made and the repercussions it could have around the world?
00:27:59.860They should be scared to death that the United States of America, which for years, decades, has been the number one force for good around the globe, has now sided with Vladimir Putin.
00:28:15.920Now, I don't think most Americans thought that when they voted yesterday.
00:28:19.720They're worried about inflation, the cost of gas, you know, local stuff.
00:28:24.180But the result is they've elected a guy that loves Putin and said all the things you just said.
00:28:32.380God knows what they're thinking in Ukraine today and Taiwan and everywhere.
00:28:39.340I mean, this is a devastating, gut-wrenching choice by America that will affect the whole world badly.
00:28:48.340Warren, I think you texted this morning that you were going to be talking about, I think, the end of the world as we know it.
00:28:56.700And we throw it around and we always do this little, you know, we laugh.
00:29:00.420Are you laughing this morning, Warren?
00:29:02.680How do we navigate this and how are you navigating it?
00:29:06.460In your mind, we've all got stuff we're going through, little steps we're climbing in our own minds here.
00:29:12.700Well, you know, I always have it on a U.S. election night party.
00:29:15.940And two weeks ago, I canceled mine because my gut told me there was trouble coming.
00:29:21.380But, you know, what John said is the most important thing.
00:29:25.100The United States of America, which is the force for good in the world, the most powerful nation on earth for a reason, last night turned inward.
00:30:47.280Canada and how, in your opinion, should it affect politics in the clear and present future?
00:30:55.860It will affect us because the prime minister's father said, you know, we're a mouse sleeping beside an elephant.
00:31:03.740And, you know, if the elephant rolls over, we're in big trouble.
00:31:06.940It is going to affect us and it's going to affect just like Justin Trudeau is the happiest guy in Canada this morning.
00:31:12.440And I just filed a column on this for post media.
00:31:14.720You know, he's tried everything he can for the past year and a half to narrow the gap between he and the conservative leader and nothing's worked.
00:31:22.580This morning, Arlene, I'm telling you, he's going to go out there.
00:31:25.480He's going to stand in front of the microphones.
00:31:26.900He's going to say, you know, I've called the president-elect to offer congratulations and we're going to continue to work with our biggest trading partner.
00:31:35.280But then he's going to say, we need to have a progressive voice in Canada now more than ever before.
00:31:43.700And I guarantee you there are Canadians who have been very mad at Justin Trudeau and planning voting against them are going to be nodding their head and saying, yep, yep, I am.
00:31:53.560I'm not sure I want to have a hard right guy in the Oval Office and a hard right guy in the prime minister's office.
00:32:00.000And I think everything changed last night, not just for the United States of America, but for Canada, too.
00:32:05.680But, yeah, here, here, I totally agree.
00:33:20.560Well, I mean, part of Trump's message has always been anti-media.
00:33:26.180You know, he was just joking 72 hours ago about the media getting shot, and nobody seemed to object.
00:33:31.920So those of us who are ink-stained wretches, you know, well, we know we're not on anybody's popularity list.
00:33:39.140But, yeah, there's always been a path there for politicians who want to knock around the media.
00:33:43.880There's been a path there for them to win.
00:33:46.540But, you know, that to me has been his greatest strength.
00:33:49.320I don't think he's the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree, but Trump understood, I think, 10 years ago, maybe longer, that, you know, people increasingly distrust the media.
00:34:00.500And so his main opponent for more than a decade has been the media, and it's really worked for him.
00:34:06.580And, you know, and so Beyonce and Taylor Swift and, you know, Anderson Cooper, all of the elites are against him, and he loves it.
00:34:17.200He eats it up because, as John said, your average American just doesn't care about all that kind of stuff.
00:34:23.200They care about, you know, do I have enough money to fill up when the light goes on on my car?
00:34:28.360So, you know, that's where people were at in the United States.
00:34:54.340They know he's a bad guy, and I'm not going to swear, Arlene, he's an effing jerk.
00:35:00.560A majority of his voters will acknowledge he's an effing jerk, and they still voted for him.
00:35:08.660So that tells me that group, the majority now, are so desperate in the situation they're in, or they perceive they're in, the government, cultural issues, transgender stuff,
00:35:21.660all this stuff, they're so upset over it, they say, you know what, I'll vote for an effing jerk, because he'll go against these people, and he'll fight them, and he'll fix it.
00:35:33.680Never in my life did I think I would see America knowingly vote for an effing jerk, but they've done it.
00:35:40.480Okay, we're going to end on that fire.
