00:00:00.000 It's the KinsellaCast, starring Warren Kinsella.
00:00:16.680 Hey, it's Warren. Welcome to the KinsellaCast.
00:00:20.340 What a fucking week. What a week.
00:00:24.960 At mere hours after I last spoke to you, Justin Trudeau resigned, as I predicted he would.
00:00:33.080 Liberal leadership kicks off. The people who are supposed to jump in don't.
00:00:38.280 And some people who shouldn't jump in did.
00:00:42.080 Donald Trump declares war against Greenland, Denmark, Panama, and Canada.
00:00:49.160 And the federal government is paralyzed and giving a response.
00:00:53.960 California on fire. Conflicts around the world.
00:00:58.240 It has been a total shitshow clusterfuck of a week.
00:01:03.560 That is my professional restrained way of describing it to you.
00:01:07.880 So, to figure it all out, I've got lots of stuff going on this week.
00:01:14.260 I've got Brian Lilly and John Mraz, of course, trying to peer through the prism to discern some meaning.
00:01:22.580 Tasha Carradine, Carl Belanger, Ben Mulroney, Anthony Koch, Paul Wells.
00:01:28.720 Like a whole bunch of people.
00:01:32.660 Really smart people.
00:01:34.500 Try and figure it all out.
00:01:36.260 Entertain you.
00:01:37.300 And in the entertainment department, I've got some good stuff.
00:01:40.220 I've got Hot Wax.
00:01:41.540 There's a trio from Hastings with their song Phone Machine.
00:01:44.340 Bug Club, who I love.
00:01:46.820 The two brothers, Caldecott in England.
00:01:50.000 And they've got a song about James Bond.
00:01:52.320 Seemed to fit.
00:01:53.100 Satin Cali.
00:01:54.560 Another Australian beach grunge band.
00:01:57.460 There's a lot of those.
00:01:58.880 But they've got a song about the good old days.
00:02:00.540 And I think quite a few of us were wishing for the good old days.
00:02:04.800 Oscar G.
00:02:06.240 Kind of stuff I don't normally play.
00:02:07.820 But I just dug this riff and this beat.
00:02:10.500 With Chunky Buddha.
00:02:11.820 He does house music.
00:02:13.100 He's from Florida.
00:02:14.960 Scotland's Altered Images.
00:02:16.860 Remember her voice?
00:02:17.720 What an angel she was.
00:02:19.160 They were so perfect.
00:02:20.760 Greatest pop band of the summer of 1982.
00:02:24.580 With I Could Be Happy.
00:02:25.980 And Bomb Pops.
00:02:27.140 With their song about Los Angeles.
00:02:28.900 And I do it for them.
00:02:30.080 Because they're a great band.
00:02:31.120 But also, all of us are thinking about Los Angeles this week.
00:02:34.320 And hoping that people are okay.
00:02:35.600 So, great show.
00:02:38.120 I wanted to direct your attention in a slightly different direction.
00:02:42.740 Because on the podcast, we'll be talking about all kinds of other stuff.
00:02:45.640 Um, Pierre Polyev.
00:02:50.380 Like, in any conflict, real life or otherwise, it is always a danger to be fighting the last war.
00:02:59.480 Politics doesn't stand still for anybody.
00:03:02.780 Events never stop coming.
00:03:04.660 What was an issue yesterday almost certainly will not be an issue tomorrow.
00:03:09.280 Despite all that, there Pierre Polyev was this week, standing at a podium, bearing the slogan,
00:03:16.780 Axe the Tax Election.
00:03:19.120 Just below that, it said the same thing in French.
00:03:23.140 Now, the precise date that the conservative leader launched his Axe the Tax campaign is lost in the mists of time.
00:03:30.780 CTV tells us it started in June 2023.
00:03:34.140 Whatever the case, this much is true.
00:03:36.320 The world has changed, Pierre, pretty dramatically since June 2023.
00:03:42.700 October 7th, and the war in Gaza hadn't even started.
00:03:46.900 A ceasefire was in place with Hamas, in fact.
00:03:49.760 Ukraine had commenced a counteroffensive against Russia, and the results, they look promising.
00:03:56.560 California was experiencing a deluge of rain, not fire.
00:04:01.520 Donald Trump was viewed unfavorably, or very unfavorably, by half of Americans.
00:04:08.840 The Canadian dollar was worth 75 cents, U.S.
00:04:12.680 And while Polyev was, back then, still ahead of the Trudeau liberals, his lead was just a fraction of what it is now.
00:04:20.060 Seven points.
00:04:21.080 That's almost the margin of error.
00:04:22.280 So, since June 2023, a couple other events of note have happened.
00:04:29.040 I'm going to draw them to Pierre's attention.
00:04:31.080 One, Justin Trudeau has announced that he will no longer be Prime Minister.
00:04:35.460 He will be gone, completely gone, in 56 days.
00:04:40.380 Less than two months.
00:04:42.180 Number two, the aforementioned Donald Trump, he's about to again become President of the United States of America.
00:04:49.660 That's happening in just a week.
00:04:51.020 It's been in all the papers.
00:04:53.060 It is Trump's extraordinary return that should be causing Pierre Polyev to reflect on his election strategy.
00:04:59.460 But so far, it hasn't.
00:05:02.300 In just the past few days, Trump has said he wants to use economic force, that's a quote, against Canada to make us, as he puts it, the 51st state.
00:05:11.300 He has referred to Trudeau as governor of that state.
00:05:14.440 He has mocked Polyev.
00:05:16.220 He has published maps in which Canada no longer exists, you know, kind of like the Israel-hating pro-Hamas people do, with their logos and signs and keychains showing just Palestine from the river to the sea, like that.
00:05:29.220 Simultaneously, Trump has threatened to use military force against Denmark and Greenland, who are members of NATO, which compelled Britain and France to actually state that they would not hesitate to defend Denmark and Greenland under Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty.
00:05:46.600 Trump has also threatened military action against Panama, a sovereign state, and it is well known he has promised to impose 25% tariffs on all goods entering the United States from Canada and Mexico.
00:06:04.740 That last one, which, when, not if, when it happens, will result in 5 million Canadians potentially losing their jobs and throwing us into a recession, possibly worse.
00:06:18.760 Which is kind of economically, you know, it's kind of economically significant, isn't it?
00:06:24.700 Trudeau's carbon tax was poorly designed, poorly implemented, and poorly communicated.
00:06:29.240 Yes, it was wildly unpopular, as taxes always are.
00:06:34.220 But in comparative terms, the carbon tax is fucking dwarfed by the multiplicity of threats posed by Donald Trump.
00:06:42.820 Before he even assumes the office of president, Trump has effectively declared war on Canada and much of the world.
00:06:50.340 America, whether the Tories accept it or not, no longer considers us an ally.
00:06:55.820 That, perhaps, may have been why Pierre Polyev surrounded himself with 13 Canadian flags, one for each province and territory, at his press conference this week.
00:07:06.160 He, or someone around him, has possibly started to wonder if the ballot question just might not be the carbon tax anymore.
00:07:14.580 It might be the damage caused by the human Cheeto, as he calls him.
00:07:20.080 The contents of Polyev's press conference didn't inspire much confidence either.
00:07:25.840 In it, the Tory leader went after Trudeau's likeliest successors and launched yet another bumper sticker for the ages.
00:07:32.960 Just like Justin.
00:07:35.180 Polyev uttered those words like they had been handed to him on a barf bag five seconds before the press conference kicked off.
00:07:42.000 It sounded fucking ridiculous.
00:07:44.880 And it was off-message and off-target, too.
00:07:48.040 Canadian conservatives pride themselves on being closer to the ground than their pointed-headed, pointed-headed, pointed-headed, pointed-headed, anyway, liberal elite opponents, you know what I mean.
00:08:00.900 And there's truth to that.
00:08:02.880 So hustle down to your local Tim's, Tories, and listen to what the unapologetically Canadian Canadians are saying.
00:08:11.040 I did.
00:08:11.780 I did some research at my local coffee shop this week, and here's what one old guy said to us.
00:08:17.760 The biggest threat to this country in my lifetime is Donald Trump.
00:08:22.080 Who the hell is speaking for Canada when we are under attack?
00:08:27.560 Time for a change in strategy, Tories.
00:08:30.360 The world ain't waiting for y'all to keep up.
00:08:32.860 Soldiers hide under the family tree
00:08:45.880 You could be my bride
00:08:49.900 Cover yourself in cream
00:08:52.800 She's gonna turn away
00:08:56.540 So blow her in the sea
00:08:59.760 And I'll take your side
00:09:03.720 When you've got no phone machine
00:09:06.840 Shooting birds
00:09:17.840 Through a somber, bad memory
00:09:20.540 I fly to once
00:09:22.800 I fly to once
00:09:24.580 Being a documental freak
00:09:27.580 I squint her eyes
00:09:31.580 To see if she's somebody like me
00:09:34.500 And I'll take your side
00:09:38.320 When you've got no phone machine
00:09:41.500 miracle
00:09:42.340 Yeah
00:09:42.540 Shoot birds
00:09:42.660 Be перед or Municipal freak
00:09:42.980 I push you along
00:09:43.700 Just để
00:09:44.260 I push them in the sea
00:09:46.540 Here are some studio
00:09:48.560 And that's the best
00:09:48.860 You've got no Ron
00:09:49.340 girl
00:09:50.080 Kayla
00:09:51.120 And that's what game
00:09:52.040 And that's how I am
00:09:53.140 Loving here
00:09:53.520 Hold up
00:09:54.360 Leave
00:09:54.940 A hopeless
00:09:55.060 Gotta lose
00:09:55.760 Your life
00:09:56.040 Damn
00:09:56.740 She's gonna lose
00:09:58.140 Time for gas
00:10:00.140 Deco
00:10:00.180 Knife
00:10:00.620 To see if she was
00:10:01.220 Girl
00:10:01.500
00:10:03.380 Your life
00:10:05.480 Work
00:10:06.120 I should give it
00:10:06.440 I should give it
00:10:07.300 That's what we're winning
00:10:08.060 Do you
00:10:08.700 There's still
00:10:09.300 You need
00:10:10.300 To see that
00:10:11.380 It's what to see if it here
00:10:11.500 Don't just hide under your family tree
00:10:16.000 You could be my bride, cover your sound in cream
00:10:23.160 She'll always turn away, so ditch high in the sea
00:10:30.100 And I'll take your side when you've got no phone machine
00:10:37.220 Shoot your thoughts, take your faith
00:10:44.540 Shoot your thoughts, take your faith
00:10:51.420 This is CFRA Live, Sunday Political Panel
00:11:11.020 And just in time for all that political talk, it is the CFRA Live, Sunday Political Panel
00:11:16.380 Joining us this morning, he is the president at Traction Strategies, Carl Belanger
00:11:19.840 Carl, good morning
00:11:20.720 Good morning
00:11:21.720 Warren Kinsella is a strategist and post-media columnist
00:11:24.060 You can read his latest in the Toronto Sun
00:11:25.960 Good morning, Warren
00:11:26.660 Good morning
00:11:28.260 Tasha Carradine is a political columnist for the National Post
00:11:30.840 Writer for GZero Media and an author
00:11:32.820 Good morning, Tasha
00:11:33.780 Good morning
00:11:35.260 I wanted to get this out of the way
00:11:36.580 Warren, is there any truth to the rumor that you may be running for the Liberal Party of Canada?
00:11:41.020 Warren, 4pm
00:11:43.380 No, I've got more skeletons
00:11:46.160 I've got Jurassic Park in my closet
00:11:48.360 So, no, that ain't happening
00:11:51.480 Alright, you heard it here first, we've ruled it out
00:11:53.580 I guess we have seen this conversation kind of happen
00:11:56.140 Let's rewind way back to Monday
00:11:58.140 It feels like four weeks ago now at this point
00:12:00.180 But we did see Trudeau take a, you know, not necessarily a walk in the snow
00:12:03.580 But he definitely made a speech in the freezing cold
00:12:05.940 Warren, you kind of had predicted that this was going to happen eventually
00:12:09.440 Were you surprised that I guess it took this long?
00:12:11.380 I was surprised it took this long
00:12:13.880 But I wasn't surprised it happened
00:12:15.360 So I won a lot of bets
00:12:16.800 Particularly with colleagues at Post Media
00:12:19.220 So they're going to be paying up big time in the coming weeks
00:12:22.100 He had to go, you know
00:12:24.100 And it's like as many as 25 points behind
00:12:26.860 The writing's on the wall
00:12:28.380 And it's just a question of when he got to realize it
00:12:31.660 But it has been an extraordinary week
00:12:34.060 It's been the craziest week in Canadian politics
00:12:36.540 Since I can remember, what, the collapse of Meach Lake
00:12:39.780 Oka and the GST crisis
00:12:42.120 Like this is the nuttiest week any of us have ever seen
00:12:45.780 You got Trump threatening to use force against Canada
00:12:49.300 Turn us into the 51st state
00:12:51.380 You got NATO falling apart
00:12:53.020 You got a Liberal leadership candidate starting
00:12:55.500 With all the for sure candidates
00:12:57.980 You know, quite a few of them dropping out
00:13:00.020 Before they even got started
00:13:01.480 It is just wild what's taken place
00:13:06.000 But the Liberal Party still at the end of the day
00:13:08.640 Is way behind Pierre Polia's Conservatives
00:13:11.640 So that's their big problem
00:13:13.340 His big problem is he's fighting the last war
00:13:16.260 I'm going to call him this in Post Media this weekend
00:13:18.860 He's still going on about the carbon tax
00:13:21.920 And the carbon tax may have worked for him over the past two years
00:13:25.300 It's not going to work anymore
00:13:26.660 The ballot question is Donald Trump
00:13:29.560 Those tariffs are coming in one week's time
00:13:32.020 And we are looking at potentially millions of Canadians
00:13:35.220 Losing their livelihood
00:13:36.620 Millions
00:13:37.840 And the party that talks about it
00:13:41.080 Whether federally or provincially
00:13:42.880 The politicians who talk about it
00:13:44.540 And have a plan for it
00:13:45.760 They're the ones who are going to win
00:13:47.240 And Polia needs to wake up to the new reality
00:13:49.920 In the past week, the world has changed
00:13:52.720 And I want to get into the direction of both the Liberals
00:13:55.700 And where we're heading in an election campaign as well
00:13:57.660 Carl, just first on the PM's resignation on Monday
00:14:00.740 Like I said, it's felt like it's been so long now
00:14:02.700 Because there's been so much talk in between
00:14:04.340 But was this inevitable?
00:14:06.340 Did he have to go at this point?
00:14:09.360 Well, I think that before his attempt to shuffle his cabinet
00:14:13.120 And the spectacular resignation of Christian Freeland
00:14:15.800 He had every intention to stay
00:14:18.100 And I think that was the last drop
00:14:22.000 That made him need to go
00:14:25.300 The problem is that it's way too late
00:14:28.160 I mean, it took way too much time
00:14:30.640 And now you have a truncated Liberal leadership race
00:14:33.280 With serious candidates dropping left and right
00:14:35.940 And you're stuck with Frank Bayliss and Chandra Aria
00:14:38.880 In the running
00:14:40.080 That's what you've got right now
00:14:41.640 So it's going to be very difficult for the Liberals
00:14:44.980 To come back from behind at this stage
00:14:47.500 Not impossible
00:14:48.400 I mean, we've seen weird things happen in politics
00:14:51.160 Impossible things sometimes do happen
00:14:54.300 But considering the timeline
00:14:56.240 The state of the party
00:14:57.240 The time that was left by Trudeau
00:15:01.520 For these colleagues to salvage the ship
00:15:04.820 It's going to be a very difficult thing
00:15:07.380 But not impossible
00:15:09.780 Especially if the bad question changes
00:15:13.040 Like Warren just outlined
00:15:14.600 And if somebody is able to grasp
00:15:17.980 Canadian's imagination
00:15:19.020 To fight against Trump
00:15:20.460 Because he becomes the biggest threat
00:15:23.600 That this country has faced in a long time
00:15:26.180 Tasha, I guess from the political perspective
00:15:29.260 Of the Prime Minister this week
00:15:30.340 You know, did he have any other choice?
00:15:31.620 Particularly, as Carl said
00:15:32.700 After that resignation of Christian Freeland
00:15:34.700 It seems like that was the straw
00:15:36.060 That broke the camel's back here
00:15:37.300 Yeah, it broke the back
00:15:39.320 Because it broke it internally
00:15:40.580 And he said that in his farewell speech
00:15:43.880 Where he blamed everybody
00:15:44.960 Including Christopher Freeland
00:15:46.020 For his demise
00:15:47.320 Everyone except himself
00:15:48.560 He said the team's no longer with him
00:15:50.400 Basically
00:15:50.800 And that's what pushed him over the edge
00:15:52.820 Well, the team's no longer with him
00:15:54.580 Because he can't win the next election
00:15:57.120 And they're all going to lose their seats
00:15:59.100 And they're fed up
00:16:00.300 And so he, you know
00:16:01.460 That was the genesis
00:16:02.420 But he left that part out
00:16:03.620 So I think, yes
00:16:05.100 The dominoes fell when she quit
00:16:07.360 And they fell fast
00:16:08.620 And I won my bet too
00:16:09.960 Because as it turns out
00:16:11.200 Monday
00:16:11.680 I said he was going to quit
00:16:12.760 Before the holidays were over
00:16:14.080 Monday was a school holiday in Quebec
00:16:16.420 And my friend who I bet with
00:16:18.260 So I get my coffee
00:16:19.560 I'm very excited
00:16:20.460 Because I said he would go before then
00:16:23.040 So, yeah
00:16:24.360 I think
00:16:25.240 I think that
00:16:26.300 I agree with Warren
00:16:27.180 This has been
00:16:28.220 Four weeks in a week
00:16:29.600 Of politics
00:16:30.380 And
00:16:30.820 The ballot question will be
00:16:33.040 Who's Captain Canada?
00:16:34.780 Who can stand up against Donald Trump?
00:16:37.620 That does change things
00:16:39.300 For the conservatives
00:16:39.980 Because right now
00:16:41.260 You know
00:16:42.060 Pierre Polyev
00:16:42.820 Elon Musk's
00:16:43.900 Apparently new best political friend
00:16:45.600 And Elon Musk is
00:16:46.820 Still
00:16:47.660 So far
00:16:48.500 Donald Trump's best political friend
00:16:50.020 We'll see how that goes
00:16:50.960 But
00:16:52.000 The conservatives
00:16:53.240 Are
00:16:53.880 Much more aligned
00:16:55.600 I would say
00:16:56.520 Even though
00:16:56.960 Polyev has said
00:16:57.920 You know
00:16:58.160 Well
00:16:58.340 Canada is a sovereign country
00:16:59.460 He's made a couple of statements
00:17:00.800 To that effect
00:17:01.460 I think
00:17:03.380 In the imagination
00:17:04.280 Of people
00:17:04.780 It really depends
00:17:05.500 How things will go
00:17:06.240 With Trump
00:17:06.660 If he puts in tariffs
00:17:07.720 On day one
00:17:08.360 Which I assume he will
00:17:09.600 Then it's
00:17:11.140 It's war
00:17:11.800 So to speak
00:17:12.400 Melanie Jolie
00:17:13.020 Is already talking about
00:17:14.020 Cutting off energy exports
00:17:15.380 She said this
00:17:16.220 Yeah
00:17:16.380 Alberta's going to have
00:17:17.200 A mental breakdown
00:17:18.160 Daniel Smith's already said
00:17:19.380 They don't want to do that
00:17:20.360 So what are we going to use
00:17:22.300 As leverage against the Americans
00:17:23.820 When are we going to do that
00:17:26.040 And what's it going to involve
00:17:27.380 And how
00:17:28.220 How
00:17:28.780 How much of a war
00:17:30.780 Economic war
00:17:31.740 Will this be
00:17:33.000 How much hostility
00:17:33.800 Will there be
00:17:34.240 So
00:17:34.800 Who are we going to look to
00:17:36.320 To defend us
00:17:36.920 In that circumstance
00:17:37.840 That's going to be the issue
00:17:39.040 And I agree
00:17:39.640 Carbon tax
00:17:40.640 All that stuff
00:17:41.460 Is going to get subsumed
00:17:43.020 In the Trump tsunami
00:17:43.920 And it's
00:17:45.320 Obviously going to face
00:17:46.380 All parties here
00:17:47.000 As we head to a general election
00:17:48.360 You mentioned Melanie Jolie
00:17:49.480 Tasha
00:17:50.320 She has mentioned
00:17:50.840 That she's not going to be
00:17:51.600 Kicking around
00:17:52.080 In this particular
00:17:52.840 Leadership race
00:17:53.580 So far we've got
00:17:54.660 Mark Carney
00:17:55.140 And Krista Freeland
00:17:55.760 Kind of the early favourites
00:17:57.280 In leading the way
00:17:57.900 In terms of the numbers here
00:17:58.960 But of course
00:17:59.940 As you guys have already
00:18:01.260 Kind of alluded to
00:18:01.900 We've only got two real
00:18:02.900 People that have entered
00:18:04.220 The conversation right now
00:18:05.700 I suppose when it comes
00:18:06.600 To the liberal leadership race
00:18:08.280 Tasha
00:18:08.620 Where does the party
00:18:09.940 Kind of want to head from here
00:18:11.200 Is it kind of towards
00:18:12.760 Amor Carney
00:18:13.380 Or Freeland
00:18:13.900 Is it away from
00:18:14.840 The kind of past
00:18:15.860 Trudeau liberals
00:18:16.400 Where do you anticipate
00:18:17.720 They should actually
00:18:18.600 Be headed here
00:18:19.220 If they want to have
00:18:19.720 Some success
00:18:20.260 I think as far
00:18:21.840 From the Trudeau liberals
00:18:22.880 As possible
00:18:23.360 I don't know
00:18:23.720 Warren's not running
00:18:24.580 But maybe his ex-boss can
00:18:26.100 I mean Jean Chrétien
00:18:27.020 Is great
00:18:27.560 You know
00:18:28.820 He's already
00:18:29.180 He said that
00:18:31.220 The party should move
00:18:32.400 To the radical centre
00:18:33.840 I believe is the term he used
00:18:35.040 Yes
00:18:35.200 And I think
00:18:37.220 Yeah
00:18:37.500 I think that
00:18:38.300 That's where it's
00:18:39.200 Traditionally won
00:18:40.060 And I think
00:18:40.580 The leader has to be
00:18:42.220 The person
00:18:42.820 To get back
00:18:44.440 The voters they lost
00:18:45.640 And that's significant
00:18:46.700 Because those voters
00:18:47.820 Are disillusioned
00:18:50.000 Liberals
00:18:51.080 Who feel that
00:18:52.180 The party went too far
00:18:53.060 To the left
00:18:53.620 They are middle of the road
00:18:55.080 Voters
00:18:55.640 Maybe people who
00:18:56.420 Wouldn't even turn out
00:18:57.940 Because they feel
00:18:58.540 They have no one to vote for
00:18:59.680 You need to give them
00:19:00.880 Somebody
00:19:01.340 And so
00:19:02.020 Who is that
00:19:03.020 It's somebody I think
00:19:04.660 Who's not part of the machine
00:19:05.900 Right now
00:19:06.540 Because it's the machine
00:19:07.520 That elected
00:19:08.540 You know
00:19:09.160 That was so close to Trudeau
00:19:10.200 And Freeland
00:19:11.000 I think is very
00:19:11.900 Seemingly aligned with him
00:19:14.200 The Conservatives will demonize
00:19:15.840 Whoever it is
00:19:16.440 We know that
00:19:17.120 So that's not really a factor
00:19:18.540 I think it really is
00:19:19.880 Who can bring back
00:19:20.820 The voters they lost
00:19:21.720 Carbon tax
00:19:23.160 Carney has already become
00:19:24.100 The nickname
00:19:24.820 From the Conservative party
00:19:27.200 On Carney
00:19:27.640 On that point
00:19:28.720 I guess
00:19:29.020 Warren here
00:19:30.360 Just the idea of
00:19:31.580 You know
00:19:32.060 Is Mark Carney
00:19:32.640 Far enough away
00:19:33.380 From the current Trudeau
00:19:34.280 Machinery
00:19:35.080 As Tash is kind of
00:19:36.840 Alluding to here
00:19:37.500 Because he has been
00:19:38.220 Whispered to be
00:19:38.940 You know
00:19:39.460 Nearing
00:19:40.040 Coming to the Liberal party
00:19:41.420 For the last couple of years
00:19:42.200 Is that far enough away
00:19:43.580 Do you think
00:19:44.040 No
00:19:45.000 He's the Trudeau candidate
00:19:46.720 All of Team Trudeau
00:19:48.600 But
00:19:49.080 Telford
00:19:49.760 All of these people
00:19:50.680 Who've had to
00:19:51.640 Resign in scandal
00:19:53.140 Or been implicated by scandal
00:19:54.780 Are backing him
00:19:55.640 That's where all the Trudeau guys went
00:19:57.440 Because they're all mad
00:19:58.260 At Christopher Freeland
00:19:59.100 For what she did
00:20:00.340 At the start of December
00:20:01.500 So if you want more Trudeau
00:20:03.960 Vote for Mark Carney
00:20:05.020 But the
00:20:05.960 You know
00:20:06.260 The other problem
00:20:06.900 With Carney
00:20:07.460 Along with the fact
00:20:08.300 That he's never had to worry
00:20:09.300 About a mortgage payment
00:20:10.360 Or a rent payment
00:20:11.300 Or anything else
00:20:12.360 And doesn't understand
00:20:13.560 The life of your average Canadian
00:20:15.180 Is he's never held
00:20:16.760 Elected office
00:20:17.720 And so great
00:20:19.160 Is the arrogance
00:20:20.020 And the conceit
00:20:21.100 Of these people
00:20:21.960 Is they actually believe
00:20:23.700 That they can fashion
00:20:24.620 A prime minister
00:20:25.440 In a single week
00:20:26.500 Who's never even held
00:20:27.940 The position of dog catcher
00:20:29.820 That's what they think
00:20:31.060 They can do
00:20:31.660 That's how smart
00:20:32.500 They think they are
00:20:33.960 But it's not going to work
00:20:35.580 Like it's
00:20:36.160 For me
00:20:36.680 And I've said this to media
00:20:38.260 All this week
00:20:39.020 All of us have been doing
00:20:39.960 Lots of panel stuff
00:20:41.100 There's a lot of everything
00:20:42.100 That's going on
00:20:42.860 The Liberal Party
00:20:44.280 It's time for the Liberal Party
00:20:45.780 Like every other party
00:20:47.300 In the House of Commons
00:20:48.400 To have a woman as leader
00:20:51.340 Like enough is enough
00:20:53.060 And for them to be considering
00:20:55.140 This white guy
00:20:56.440 Who's never held
00:20:57.600 Elected office to me
00:20:59.060 Is ridiculous
00:20:59.900 It's either Freeland
00:21:01.400 Or well
00:21:02.240 Until Friday night
00:21:03.160 Christy Clark
00:21:03.960 That was it
00:21:05.680 And those were the choices
00:21:07.400 And it just amazes me
00:21:08.940 That the Liberal Party
00:21:10.320 Is again considering
00:21:11.400 Embracing another guy
00:21:13.580 And just quickly
00:21:15.200 Warned on too
00:21:15.800 On that radical center point
00:21:17.380 That Jean Chrétien
00:21:18.520 Mentioning that
00:21:19.240 With Vasco Capello
00:21:19.860 Is coming up later on
00:21:20.640 This morning
00:21:21.000 Is he right?
00:21:22.260 Do they need to
00:21:22.900 When they're trying
00:21:23.480 To right the ship here?
00:21:24.360 Do they need to head back
00:21:25.400 To kind of the center
00:21:26.360 Instead of the
00:21:27.020 Further left
00:21:28.120 They've kind of drifted
00:21:28.720 With this NDP coalition
00:21:29.760 Well this Chrétien guy
00:21:32.580 I've heard about him
00:21:33.220 You've heard about him
00:21:33.800 Yeah
00:21:34.040 Yeah
00:21:34.680 His op-ed
00:21:37.640 In a single day
00:21:38.980 Got more of a positive response
00:21:41.500 From Liberals I think
00:21:42.620 And Canadians
00:21:43.400 Than the Trudeau team
00:21:44.880 Has gotten in half a decade
00:21:46.300 Like it was so well received
00:21:48.800 I encourage everybody
00:21:49.740 To seek it out
00:21:51.020 And read it
00:21:51.580 And he's been talking to me
00:21:52.640 And other people
00:21:53.240 About this radical center point
00:21:55.340 For a long time
00:21:56.260 But essentially
00:21:57.240 What it means is
00:21:58.540 You know
00:21:59.200 Justin Trudeau
00:22:00.120 Became an adjunct
00:22:01.960 Or adjacent to the NDP
00:22:03.940 And more
00:22:04.580 You know
00:22:05.140 Congratulations to him
00:22:06.680 It worked for him
00:22:07.320 For three elections
00:22:08.160 It doesn't work anymore
00:22:09.940 He needs
00:22:11.220 The Liberal Party
00:22:12.040 Needs to be back
00:22:12.840 At the center
00:22:13.440 And that's one of
00:22:14.200 Chrétien's points
00:22:15.140 His other point was
00:22:16.380 You have to respond
00:22:17.580 To the thug
00:22:18.440 That is Donald Trump
00:22:19.540 With firmness
00:22:21.640 And strength
00:22:22.680 And that's something
00:22:23.740 That has not been evident
00:22:24.740 At the federal level
00:22:25.900 Over the
00:22:26.620 You know
00:22:26.980 Since Trump
00:22:27.540 Got his election win
00:22:29.700 On November 5th
00:22:30.700 So
00:22:30.920 You know
00:22:31.800 Everybody should read
00:22:32.600 What Chrétien said
00:22:33.360 Because I
00:22:33.900 I kind of like this
00:22:34.700 Chrétien guy
00:22:35.300 He's kind of smart
00:22:35.960 Up and comer
00:22:37.460 I think we're going to hear
00:22:38.120 More from him
00:22:38.640 Down the line
00:22:39.140 For sure
00:22:39.580 We have a draft
00:22:40.860 Chrétien movement
00:22:41.640 There you go
00:22:42.180 You can start that
00:22:42.920 We'll see how that goes
00:22:44.260 Yeah
00:22:44.520 Carl
00:22:45.360 Just on this idea
00:22:46.080 Of the Liberal leadership race
00:22:47.220 Here
00:22:47.380 I know
00:22:47.640 It seems like
00:22:49.000 You're kind of
00:22:49.380 Damned if you do
00:22:49.860 Damned if you don't
00:22:50.460 In terms of
00:22:50.940 Picking somebody
00:22:51.420 Close to the Trudeau
00:22:52.740 Liberals here
00:22:53.760 Is there somebody
00:22:54.780 That is above reproach
00:22:56.200 Here that is
00:22:56.740 The obvious choice
00:22:57.780 Or is there just
00:22:59.300 You know
00:22:59.660 A lot of pain ahead
00:23:00.340 From the Liberals
00:23:00.860 No matter who they choose
00:23:01.660 Oh there's going to be
00:23:02.880 A lot of pain
00:23:03.460 There is no
00:23:04.200 Obvious savior
00:23:05.140 Somebody that will
00:23:06.000 Refresh the brand
00:23:06.900 And turn it around
00:23:08.380 In such a quick time frame
00:23:09.400 I mean that's the issue
00:23:10.140 There's just no time
00:23:11.220 I mean unless
00:23:13.560 They somehow
00:23:14.180 Convince
00:23:14.760 Jagmeet Singh
00:23:15.300 And the NDP
00:23:15.840 To you know
00:23:16.840 Give them another lifeline
00:23:18.960 That's not impossible
00:23:19.880 I mean we've seen
00:23:20.720 Where things happen
00:23:21.540 And who knows
00:23:22.260 But if I were the NDP
00:23:23.860 I would pull the plug
00:23:24.680 Right away
00:23:25.140 Don't let the time
00:23:26.040 Don't give the time
00:23:26.700 To the new leader
00:23:27.420 To frame the debate
00:23:29.940 To reframe
00:23:31.020 And rebrand the party
00:23:32.260 So the situation
00:23:33.720 In which Liberals are
00:23:35.420 The way out
00:23:38.100 I mean I don't see
00:23:39.380 It right
00:23:39.980 Not with the list
00:23:41.400 Of candidates
00:23:41.800 That we've seen
00:23:42.440 I mean Mark Carney
00:23:43.740 Who's basically
00:23:44.540 Michael Ignatius
00:23:46.740 2.0
00:23:47.460 He didn't come back
00:23:48.360 For you
00:23:48.880 And then you have
00:23:50.320 Chrystia Freeland
00:23:51.040 Who you know
00:23:51.880 Despite the fact
00:23:52.580 That she brought
00:23:53.120 Down the ship
00:23:53.840 She was responsible
00:23:55.920 For all of
00:23:56.640 Three of those
00:23:56.940 Economic policies
00:23:57.800 All the way to the end
00:23:59.020 Including
00:23:59.540 The GST rebate
00:24:01.620 That we are getting
00:24:02.500 Right now
00:24:03.060 I mean she
00:24:03.540 Was part of that
00:24:04.540 And if they had
00:24:05.260 Found the dancing
00:24:06.560 Partners
00:24:07.020 We would also get
00:24:08.300 Those checks in the spring
00:24:09.880 Of course that's not
00:24:10.600 Happening anymore
00:24:11.260 But it's going to be
00:24:12.580 Really hard for her
00:24:13.340 To be the anti-Liberal
00:24:15.300 The anti-Trudeau candidate
00:24:17.480 Because she's been
00:24:18.380 So close to him
00:24:19.140 For so long
00:24:19.880 So it doesn't matter
00:24:20.860 And the last month
00:24:21.500 You betrayed him
00:24:22.200 You're still
00:24:23.440 The Trudeau candidate
00:24:24.200 So who is not
00:24:25.020 The Trudeau candidate
00:24:25.740 Well the one
00:24:26.720 That I thought
00:24:27.140 Would be that person
00:24:28.300 Was Christy Clark
00:24:29.540 But we know
00:24:31.040 What happened last week
00:24:32.000 With the stories
00:24:33.900 About her flirtation
00:24:35.120 With the conservative
00:24:35.660 Movement
00:24:36.740 And the fact
00:24:38.040 That she was a member
00:24:38.840 Of that party
00:24:39.480 To support
00:24:40.540 Josh Arrest
00:24:41.140 So it's a
00:24:42.480 It's a very
00:24:43.680 Very difficult
00:24:44.640 Moment right now
00:24:45.880 For the liberals
00:24:46.360 There's no obvious
00:24:47.420 Savior
00:24:47.780 And who knows
00:24:49.340 Maybe somebody
00:24:49.900 Is going to come out
00:24:50.540 Of left field
00:24:51.180 But right now
00:24:51.980 I don't see anyone
00:24:53.720 That would surprise
00:24:54.920 Canadians
00:24:55.420 And get them interested
00:24:57.700 And just quickly
00:24:58.740 Carl too
00:24:59.200 From the NDP perspective
00:25:00.280 Here
00:25:00.540 Would you recommend
00:25:01.580 You know
00:25:01.840 They just stay
00:25:02.380 As far away
00:25:02.940 From the Trudeau
00:25:03.380 Liberals as possible
00:25:04.020 It seems like
00:25:04.960 Although they got
00:25:05.540 Some of their
00:25:06.020 Mission done
00:25:06.880 In terms of
00:25:07.340 Some of the policies
00:25:07.980 That they got passed
00:25:08.760 It seems like
00:25:09.200 They are kind of
00:25:10.000 Paying for their
00:25:10.680 Connection to the
00:25:11.320 Trudeau Liberals too
00:25:12.040 So if you're the NDP
00:25:13.260 Where do you go
00:25:13.820 Right now?
00:25:15.460 Well the one thing
00:25:16.280 Is that you have to
00:25:17.280 You know
00:25:18.260 Understand that the
00:25:19.660 The opportunity
00:25:21.320 That's been given
00:25:21.980 To you
00:25:22.500 With Justin Trudeau
00:25:24.320 Falling apart
00:25:25.080 Has disappeared
00:25:26.600 Right?
00:25:26.980 They should have
00:25:27.880 Brought him down
00:25:28.420 When they had a chance
00:25:29.200 Now
00:25:29.860 The one thing
00:25:30.900 That they got going
00:25:31.760 For him
00:25:32.020 Is that
00:25:32.280 You've been talking
00:25:32.980 About political price
00:25:33.920 The NDP
00:25:34.820 The NDP
00:25:34.840 Has not really
00:25:35.420 Paid a political
00:25:36.180 Price in the polls
00:25:36.960 They have not
00:25:37.400 They've not
00:25:38.160 Paid that price
00:25:39.100 They held steady
00:25:40.340 Between 15 and 20%
00:25:41.900 For the past couple
00:25:42.640 Of years
00:25:43.080 The Liberals
00:25:44.560 Have been paying
00:25:45.060 The price
00:25:45.440 For their
00:25:45.760 Association
00:25:46.320 With the NDP
00:25:46.860 And those voters
00:25:47.520 Have gone to the
00:25:48.140 Conservatives
00:25:48.580 So it will depend
00:25:50.000 Who the next leader is
00:25:51.100 Will it be a radical
00:25:52.700 Center
00:25:53.120 A little more
00:25:53.640 To the right
00:25:54.160 That would be logical
00:25:55.540 The pool of voters
00:25:56.640 That have abandoned
00:25:57.220 The Liberals
00:25:57.760 Have gone to the
00:25:58.500 Conservatives
00:25:58.960 Not to the NDP
00:25:59.760 But the Liberal
00:26:01.360 Leasy approach
00:26:02.160 Often
00:26:02.700 When it comes to
00:26:03.740 Election time
00:26:04.640 Is appeal to
00:26:06.040 NDP voters
00:26:06.600 To stop the
00:26:07.400 Evil Conservatives
00:26:08.420 But I'm not sure
00:26:09.800 It's going to work
00:26:10.360 This time
00:26:10.860 Because people are
00:26:11.580 So fed up
00:26:12.460 With the
00:26:13.000 Liberals
00:26:13.600 That if they
00:26:15.060 Had to lose
00:26:15.580 NDP support
00:26:17.040 To the NDP
00:26:17.580 It would have
00:26:18.120 Happened by now
00:26:18.740 And we'll see
00:26:20.080 How the Liberals
00:26:20.520 React
00:26:20.780 Because yeah
00:26:21.100 That is kind of
00:26:21.780 The typical
00:26:22.080 Liberal way
00:26:22.660 Is kind of
00:26:23.060 Steal the NDP's
00:26:23.800 Lunch during
00:26:24.180 The election campaign
00:26:24.900 We'll see
00:26:25.320 How that kind of
00:26:26.120 Works this time
00:26:26.800 Around
00:26:27.060 When it comes
00:26:27.860 To the general
00:26:28.260 Election
00:26:28.600 Attach
00:26:29.040 I'll just
00:26:29.320 Start with you
00:26:29.740 Here trying
00:26:30.120 To get some
00:26:30.500 Talk about
00:26:31.020 Kind of
00:26:31.480 Where we're
00:26:31.820 Headed here
00:26:32.420 Because we are
00:26:33.280 Going to have
00:26:33.620 An election
00:26:33.940 Campaign eventually
00:26:34.940 I was looking
00:26:35.600 First numbers
00:26:36.180 First blush
00:26:36.740 From abacus
00:26:37.340 Here
00:26:37.560 I have the
00:26:38.440 Conservatives
00:26:38.800 I think
00:26:39.060 Around 47%
00:26:40.320 At last check
00:26:41.200 You know
00:26:41.720 Paulie have
00:26:42.200 Clearly
00:26:42.580 In cruise
00:26:43.160 Control here
00:26:43.820 He'd probably
00:26:44.400 Be better
00:26:44.820 Served
00:26:45.120 Just to
00:26:45.380 Not say
00:26:45.720 Anything
00:26:46.020 But what's
00:26:47.080 His biggest
00:26:47.440 Challenge
00:26:47.880 Now trying
00:26:48.480 To appeal
00:26:49.460 In the next
00:26:49.940 General election
00:26:50.520 Trying to
00:26:50.860 Appeal to
00:26:51.200 Voters
00:26:51.540 Well I
00:26:53.500 Mean
00:26:53.720 His challenge
00:26:55.260 He can afford
00:26:56.180 To lose
00:26:56.880 7% of the
00:26:58.680 Vote and still
00:26:59.180 Former government
00:26:59.800 So he's
00:27:00.880 You know
00:27:01.340 He's in
00:27:01.780 The pull
00:27:02.080 Position
00:27:02.520 I think
00:27:04.240 That it
00:27:04.760 Really
00:27:05.200 Depends who
00:27:06.940 The liberal
00:27:07.520 Leader is
00:27:08.720 If it is
00:27:09.840 Christy Freeland
00:27:10.540 He just
00:27:10.900 Stays on
00:27:11.300 Message
00:27:11.740 If he's
00:27:12.640 Anyone from
00:27:13.060 The cabinet
00:27:13.440 He stays
00:27:14.000 On message
00:27:14.420 They were
00:27:16.020 Part of it
00:27:16.440 They already
00:27:16.960 Said that
00:27:17.400 It's
00:27:17.800 Just like
00:27:19.540 Justin
00:27:19.920 I think
00:27:20.240 Is the
00:27:20.460 Slogan
00:27:20.760 They're
00:27:20.920 Having
00:27:21.140 For the
00:27:21.680 People
00:27:21.920 That
00:27:22.320 Are
00:27:22.540 Running
00:27:22.720 That
00:27:23.300 Wouldn't
00:27:23.500 Apply to
00:27:23.940 Someone
00:27:24.120 From the
00:27:24.420 Outside
00:27:24.900 Like
00:27:25.560 Christy
00:27:26.300 Clark
00:27:26.580 Who
00:27:27.120 Misspoke
00:27:28.280 I think
00:27:28.600 That was
00:27:28.840 A terrible
00:27:29.560 Choice of
00:27:30.120 Words
00:27:30.360 I think
00:27:30.940 She could
00:27:31.200 No
00:27:31.480 Honestly I
00:27:32.340 Think that
00:27:32.700 That actually
00:27:33.160 The irony
00:27:33.600 There
00:27:33.860 I'll just
00:27:34.100 Say for
00:27:34.340 One moment
00:27:34.820 Is that
00:27:35.560 She backed
00:27:35.980 A candidate
00:27:36.500 Jean Charest
00:27:37.000 Who was
00:27:37.360 Consistently
00:27:37.860 Accused
00:27:38.440 Of being
00:27:39.140 A liberal
00:27:39.600 People
00:27:40.300 Do not
00:27:40.500 Remember
00:27:40.720 This
00:27:40.960 That was
00:27:41.380 The irony
00:27:41.880 She accused
00:27:42.480 Him
00:27:43.000 And
00:27:43.260 And
00:27:44.360 And that
00:27:45.460 And now
00:27:46.060 She
00:27:46.380 Instead of
00:27:47.240 Owning it
00:27:47.740 And saying
00:27:48.120 You know
00:27:48.360 What
00:27:48.520 Yeah I
00:27:48.820 Backed him
00:27:49.380 And because
00:27:49.860 He represented
00:27:50.420 That radical
00:27:50.900 She should
00:27:51.280 Have owned
00:27:51.660 It
00:27:51.880 And that
00:27:52.360 Was
00:27:52.560 That's
00:27:53.080 Where she
00:27:53.300 Made her
00:27:53.600 Error
00:27:53.820 Not by
00:27:54.240 By supporting
00:27:55.260 Him
00:27:55.500 Or even
00:27:55.760 Joining
00:27:56.060 The
00:27:56.240 Conservatives
00:27:56.660 I don't
00:27:56.940 See that
00:27:57.220 As a
00:27:57.400 Big deal
00:27:57.780 Honestly
00:27:58.340 For
00:27:58.700 Someone who
00:27:59.460 Was a
00:27:59.680 Friend of
00:28:00.020 His
00:28:00.240 But the
00:28:00.960 Way she
00:28:01.260 Handled
00:28:01.540 It
00:28:01.720 Was really
00:28:02.420 Problematic
00:28:03.060 So
00:28:03.460 They'll
00:28:04.580 You know
00:28:05.000 The knives
00:28:05.940 Will be
00:28:06.160 Out
00:28:06.340 For
00:28:06.520 Her
00:28:06.880 Carnie
00:28:07.740 The knives
00:28:08.160 Are out
00:28:08.640 Though
00:28:09.400 With Carnie
00:28:09.880 It's
00:28:10.080 Interesting
00:28:10.380 Because
00:28:10.980 Yeah
00:28:11.800 He has
00:28:12.240 People
00:28:12.540 In his
00:28:12.900 Tent
00:28:13.080 Who are
00:28:13.500 Trudeau
00:28:13.820 People
00:28:14.120 The average
00:28:14.600 Person on
00:28:15.040 The street
00:28:15.340 Doesn't
00:28:15.640 Care
00:28:15.920 Who his
00:28:16.500 People
00:28:16.700 In his
00:28:16.940 Tent
00:28:17.300 Are
00:28:17.540 They
00:28:18.300 Care
00:28:18.620 What
00:28:18.900 He'll
00:28:19.220 Do
00:28:19.520 For
00:28:19.720 The
00:28:19.860 Country
00:28:20.400 And
00:28:21.060 That's
00:28:21.400 Where
00:28:21.480 It
00:28:21.520 Comes
00:28:21.660 Down
00:28:21.840 To
00:28:21.940 What
00:28:22.040 Warren
00:28:22.320 Said
00:28:22.700 Polly
00:28:23.680 Have
00:28:23.880 To
00:28:24.360 Pivot
00:28:24.880 To
00:28:25.360 Being
00:28:25.700 Captain
00:28:26.080 Canada
00:28:26.500 That's
00:28:26.940 The
00:28:27.060 Pivot
00:28:27.360 It's
00:28:27.760 Standing
00:28:28.360 Up
00:28:28.600 For
00:28:28.760 Canada
00:28:29.140 And
00:28:35.940 Going
00:28:36.080 To
00:28:36.140 Do
00:28:36.280 X
00:28:36.660 Going
00:28:36.940 Forward
00:28:37.420 So
00:28:38.000 He's
00:28:38.180 Got
00:28:38.300 To
00:28:38.380 Have
00:28:38.540 That
00:28:38.800 Because
00:28:39.040 That's
00:28:39.380 Going
00:28:39.480 To
00:28:39.500 Be
00:28:39.580 The
00:28:39.720 Battle
00:28:39.980 Line
00:28:40.260 And
00:28:41.040 If
00:28:41.220 The
00:28:41.300 Other
00:28:41.420 Person
00:28:41.760 Has
00:28:42.020 A
00:28:42.140 Better
00:28:42.360 Plan
00:28:42.740 Or
00:28:42.900 Looks
00:28:43.080 Like
00:28:43.220 They're
00:28:43.400 A
00:28:43.500 Tougher
00:28:43.740 Bird
00:28:44.140 That's
00:28:45.580 I think
00:28:45.820 What
00:28:45.980 Will
00:28:46.140 Appeal
00:28:46.460 To
00:28:46.620 Those
00:28:46.840 Voters
00:28:47.200 Who
00:28:47.360 Are
00:28:47.500 Scared
00:28:47.800 Now
00:28:47.980 For
00:28:48.120 Their
00:28:48.240 Jobs
00:28:48.620 And

00:34:32.900 James Bond in the quantum of solace
00:34:36.320 And we're back
00:34:37.440 And my friend Brian Lilly
00:34:39.500 One week ago you and I said
00:34:42.620 It may be a busy week
00:34:44.220 Maybe Trudeau's leaving tomorrow
00:34:46.200 What a fucking week
00:34:48.120 It's been absolutely crazy
00:34:49.700 So maybe to start things off
00:34:51.460 Just like very generally
00:34:52.840 How have you as a journalist
00:34:55.060 As a guy
00:34:55.820 As a Canadian
00:34:56.520 How do you feel at the end of this week
00:34:59.040 This extraordinary number of events
00:35:01.000 That have taken place within it
00:35:02.560 Well
00:35:03.640 It's shocking that it was just a week ago
00:35:08.040 It feels like nine months ago
00:35:09.780 You know
00:35:11.540 A week ago I was sitting in warm sunny California
00:35:14.860 I was still there when Trudeau resigned
00:35:17.420 I've only been back a few days
00:35:19.320 And so much has happened
00:35:21.160 We've gone from
00:35:23.820 Saying there should be an election
00:35:26.440 To the Prime Minister resigning
00:35:28.280 Putting off an election
00:35:29.680 For a parliament
00:35:30.720 And now
00:35:33.680 A full blown liberal leadership race
00:35:36.580 Including rules
00:35:37.600 That you could drive a truck through
00:35:39.300 And that are ripe for foreign interference
00:35:41.420 So it's
00:35:42.380 It's been an exhausting week
00:35:44.400 Yeah
00:35:44.960 No it truly has
00:35:46.260 What do you think
00:35:47.500 You know what's a big
00:35:48.500 Well I guess
00:35:49.080 That's a dumb question
00:35:50.380 You know what's a bigger deal
00:35:51.480 Trudeau leaving
00:35:52.160 Or Trump making threats
00:35:53.440 Or maybe they're all kind of
00:35:55.240 Stitched together
00:35:56.140 Trump's threats
00:35:58.500 Are why I'm so angry
00:35:59.460 About how
00:36:00.120 Trudeau left
00:36:01.240 Yeah
00:36:01.720 It's no secret
00:36:03.660 I'm not a fan of the guy
00:36:04.820 But the fact that he prorogues parliament
00:36:07.240 Announces his resignation
00:36:09.760 But doesn't leave
00:36:10.880 Doesn't call an election
00:36:12.220 So that we have a new leader
00:36:13.360 With an actual mandate
00:36:14.760 And instead looks after himself
00:36:16.800 And the Liberal Party first
00:36:18.320 You know
00:36:19.420 The Liberals will elect
00:36:20.600 A new leader on March 9th
00:36:22.400 Parliament will
00:36:23.160 Will resume
00:36:23.840 March 24th
00:36:24.940 Unless there's a deal
00:36:25.620 With an NDP
00:36:26.240 You know
00:36:28.220 For some type of
00:36:29.140 National crisis coalition
00:36:30.820 Then you know
00:36:32.420 That we're going into
00:36:33.380 An election
00:36:34.760 So
00:36:35.740 We either have
00:36:37.120 An illegitimate government
00:36:38.480 If there's an NDP prop up
00:36:42.520 Or we don't have
00:36:43.560 A functional government
00:36:44.520 Until June
00:36:45.440 Right
00:36:45.880 At the same time as
00:36:47.200 Trump is making these threats
00:36:48.960 Maybe this is the worst
00:36:50.340 Possible position
00:36:51.360 For us to be in
00:36:52.280 And that's
00:36:53.640 That's why
00:36:54.180 I'm so angry
00:36:55.060 About how he left
00:36:55.880 If he had called
00:36:56.580 An election
00:36:57.120 We could have
00:36:58.660 With him as leader
00:37:00.100 You know
00:37:00.360 He could make the case
00:37:01.360 On why he should be
00:37:02.420 The guy
00:37:02.840 Or we'd end up
00:37:06.320 With a poly
00:37:06.760 Of government
00:37:07.120 There would be
00:37:07.760 A leader with a mandate
00:37:08.960 Not someone that
00:37:09.820 Trump is going to look at
00:37:11.100 And laugh at
00:37:12.240 Because he
00:37:13.340 He knows the news
00:37:14.480 Coming out of Canada
00:37:15.140 He knows the polls
00:37:16.360 So the two go
00:37:17.720 Hand in hand
00:37:18.580 And put us
00:37:19.720 In a horrible position
00:37:20.920 Now
00:37:23.860 What do you think
00:37:24.840 About
00:37:25.560 Trump
00:37:26.340 We
00:37:27.160 You and I
00:37:27.540 Have been talking
00:37:28.040 For weeks
00:37:28.680 About
00:37:29.200 The stuff
00:37:30.680 That he's been saying
00:37:31.540 The bellicose
00:37:32.420 Kind of extreme stuff
00:37:33.780 A lot of people
00:37:34.980 A lot of conservatives
00:37:35.900 Have been suggesting
00:37:37.480 To themselves
00:37:38.080 Not you
00:37:38.660 A lot of conservatives
00:37:40.080 Oh he's just joking
00:37:41.020 It's not real
00:37:42.240 He's not
00:37:42.600 He couldn't possibly
00:37:43.480 Do that
00:37:44.160 And you've got this week
00:37:45.540 Stephen Harper
00:37:46.380 Suggesting online
00:37:48.300 Yeah
00:37:48.840 It feels real
00:37:50.000 And you know
00:37:51.640 Trump even going
00:37:52.440 After Polyev
00:37:53.420 What is the mind
00:37:54.720 Of conservatives
00:37:55.540 This week
00:37:56.400 Are they starting
00:37:57.020 To accept that
00:37:57.800 This is a possibility
00:37:59.180 Or even a certainty
00:38:00.400 Which part
00:38:03.960 The
00:38:04.520 The tariff threats
00:38:06.320 Or the
00:38:07.000 Annexation
00:38:07.760 Look
00:38:09.500 I've always thought
00:38:10.180 That the
00:38:10.740 The tariff threat
00:38:12.680 Was real
00:38:13.260 Yeah
00:38:13.800 And
00:38:14.380 You know
00:38:15.860 When it first happened
00:38:17.760 I said to you
00:38:18.880 Well he's asking
00:38:19.660 For stuff on the border
00:38:20.700 We should actually
00:38:21.680 You know
00:38:22.860 Give him what he wants
00:38:23.980 On the border
00:38:24.460 Because one
00:38:24.960 It's a pretty easy ask
00:38:26.180 And it benefits us
00:38:27.420 And it benefits us
00:38:28.380 And
00:38:29.260 And two
00:38:29.880 Well the last time
00:38:31.040 That he put tariffs on us
00:38:32.200 It was over
00:38:32.740 Chinese transshipment
00:38:34.360 And once we dealt
00:38:35.700 With the Chinese transshipment
00:38:36.920 He lifted
00:38:38.140 The tariffs
00:38:38.800 It wasn't
00:38:39.360 As I pointed out
00:38:40.440 In columns
00:38:41.060 Into you
00:38:41.520 It wasn't
00:38:42.540 Our counter tariffs
00:38:43.420 That won the day there
00:38:44.360 It's that we stopped
00:38:45.700 Cheap Chinese steel
00:38:46.780 And aluminum
00:38:47.280 From being dumped
00:38:48.120 In Canada
00:38:48.700 And shipped
00:38:49.220 Into the US
00:38:50.000 That's
00:38:51.600 When he lifted
00:38:52.660 Those tariffs
00:38:53.280 So I thought
00:38:53.720 Okay
00:38:54.000 That's what he did
00:38:55.160 Before
00:38:55.560 If we
00:38:56.860 Tighten up the border
00:38:58.120 He will
00:38:58.980 Avoid the tariffs
00:39:00.420 But
00:39:00.880 You know
00:39:01.800 I can't tell
00:39:03.140 If talk of annexation
00:39:04.640 Is a negotiating tactic
00:39:06.600 Or if he's changed
00:39:07.500 His mind
00:39:08.020 And thought
00:39:08.380 You know what
00:39:09.100 We should just
00:39:10.260 Own them
00:39:10.860 Because
00:39:11.240 You know
00:39:11.780 Why not
00:39:12.320 He's got in his mind
00:39:13.760 That he subsidizes
00:39:15.360 It started at
00:39:16.180 100 billion
00:39:16.840 Then it went to
00:39:17.520 200 billion
00:39:18.580 Now it's 250 billion
00:39:19.960 Do I hear three?
00:39:20.760 I think
00:39:22.380 That's the way
00:39:23.160 It's going to
00:39:23.760 Going to go
00:39:25.440 Over the next
00:39:25.940 Little while
00:39:26.460 Maybe he's serious
00:39:29.500 I don't know
00:39:31.620 How we fight
00:39:32.220 Back against that
00:39:33.200 If that's what he wants
00:39:34.000 Because there's no way
00:39:34.760 We can give him that
00:39:35.720 And
00:39:38.120 Unfortunately
00:39:40.920 We are
00:39:41.780 Incredibly dependent
00:39:43.520 On him
00:39:43.880 76%
00:39:44.880 Of our exports
00:39:46.420 Go to the United States
00:39:47.500 That was 2022's figure
00:39:48.920 I look back
00:39:50.580 In history
00:39:51.140 On
00:39:52.080 Where we were
00:39:53.740 Before we became
00:39:55.340 So dependent
00:39:55.820 On the US
00:39:56.360 When we were part
00:39:57.100 Of the British Empire
00:39:57.920 At the turn
00:39:59.960 Of the
00:40:00.860 The 19th
00:40:03.180 Into the 20th century
00:40:04.160 We were sending
00:40:04.780 About 60%
00:40:05.820 Of our exports
00:40:06.980 To the British Empire
00:40:07.880 That's when we were
00:40:08.560 Part of it
00:40:09.020 That was
00:40:09.400 At the height
00:40:10.700 Of Victorian Britain
00:40:12.220 In 1896
00:40:13.860 We were
00:40:14.440 Only 60%
00:40:17.280 Well
00:40:18.300 We're more dependent
00:40:19.140 On the US
00:40:20.400 Than we were
00:40:20.920 On the British Empire
00:40:21.780 That makes
00:40:23.220 That makes me worried
00:40:24.500 You know
00:40:26.420 Changing that
00:40:27.180 As a long term project
00:40:28.140 That won't fix this
00:40:29.000 But
00:40:29.280 The economic threat
00:40:32.660 Is
00:40:33.360 Is just
00:40:34.640 Incredible
00:40:35.640 And unfortunately
00:40:36.940 You know
00:40:37.240 As much as
00:40:37.760 Premiers can step up
00:40:38.740 And do things
00:40:39.320 And you know
00:40:42.460 In Ontario
00:40:43.240 They announced
00:40:43.780 Project deterrent
00:40:44.720 They've got the OPP
00:40:45.500 Out there
00:40:45.920 They've got increased
00:40:46.720 Helicopter patrols
00:40:47.760 At the border
00:40:48.140 That's not their job
00:40:49.360 And you know
00:40:51.040 They can only assist
00:40:52.260 On the border
00:40:52.820 And there's nothing
00:40:54.800 They can do
00:40:55.340 On the trade front
00:40:56.100 To negotiate
00:40:56.880 Trudeau finally
00:40:59.740 Started to make
00:41:00.440 His case
00:41:01.100 But Jean Chrétien
00:41:02.500 Did a better job
00:41:03.320 In the Globe and Mail
00:41:04.100 So
00:41:04.440 He sure did
00:41:05.200 Well let's talk
00:41:06.040 About the federal response
00:41:07.100 Then
00:41:07.460 Polyev
00:41:08.400 I've got a column
00:41:09.340 Critical of Polyev
00:41:10.520 In our paper
00:41:12.800 This weekend
00:41:14.140 It looks to me
00:41:16.040 Like he's still
00:41:16.720 Litigating the
00:41:17.440 Carbon tax election
00:41:18.620 Well I mean
00:41:19.040 That's the sign
00:41:19.700 On the podium
00:41:20.260 He had
00:41:20.720 I think he won
00:41:21.540 That fight
00:41:21.980 About a year ago
00:41:22.840 Why is he not
00:41:25.180 More fully
00:41:25.700 Turning his attention
00:41:26.720 To
00:41:27.340 Fighting Donald Trump
00:41:28.900 Is it because
00:41:29.400 So much of his base
00:41:30.400 Support Donald Trump
00:41:31.420 I don't think
00:41:33.140 His base would
00:41:33.780 Support Donald Trump
00:41:34.620 In taking over Canada
00:41:35.700 I just don't know
00:41:37.900 What his play
00:41:39.200 Would be there
00:41:39.880 I agree
00:41:40.760 That he should
00:41:41.200 Be doing something
00:41:41.940 I'm not sure
00:41:42.400 What though
00:41:43.020 I'm not sure
00:41:44.420 What his message
00:41:45.360 Could be
00:41:45.980 You know
00:41:48.380 He was asked
00:41:49.120 About why
00:41:49.840 You're still
00:41:50.180 Fighting the
00:41:50.620 Carbon tax war
00:41:51.540 When we've
00:41:53.100 Got this one
00:41:53.780 And he
00:41:54.580 Said they're
00:41:55.780 The same
00:41:56.280 And that
00:41:58.260 The carbon tax
00:41:59.000 Will still be
00:41:59.560 An issue
00:41:59.980 I'm not sure
00:42:04.460 He's figured out
00:42:05.180 Where to go
00:42:06.480 On this
00:42:06.960 You know
00:42:07.180 The premiers
00:42:07.620 Have an
00:42:08.660 Easy option
00:42:09.780 So his
00:42:12.240 Response has
00:42:12.860 Been weak
00:42:13.360 Absolutely
00:42:14.060 Not as weak
00:42:16.120 As the federal
00:42:16.600 Government
00:42:16.980 Which has done
00:42:17.800 Nothing
00:42:18.120 And they're
00:42:18.460 The ones
00:42:18.760 In charge
00:42:19.280 But it has
00:42:19.840 Been weak
00:42:20.300 One of the
00:42:21.360 Things I said
00:42:21.860 To Christian
00:42:22.320 You know
00:42:22.860 I talked to him
00:42:23.440 After his piece
00:42:24.200 Came out
00:42:24.760 And you know
00:42:25.240 This because
00:42:25.640 I've told you
00:42:26.140 About this
00:42:26.600 It's no secret
00:42:27.340 I said you know
00:42:28.400 I think boss
00:42:29.320 One of the
00:42:29.700 Reasons why
00:42:30.660 Your op-ed
00:42:31.980 Receives such
00:42:32.820 A positive
00:42:33.340 Response
00:42:34.020 You know
00:42:34.520 From
00:42:34.960 Conservatives
00:42:36.220 Liberals
00:42:36.700 New Democrats
00:42:37.380 Everybody
00:42:37.980 East
00:42:38.400 West
00:42:38.800 Is you know
00:42:40.360 You were seen
00:42:41.060 As talking
00:42:41.720 About the
00:42:42.440 Country
00:42:42.860 And how
00:42:43.740 It is a
00:42:44.660 Great country
00:42:45.340 And how so
00:42:46.380 Many of our
00:42:46.880 Federal politicians
00:42:47.940 Are not doing
00:42:49.860 That
00:42:50.220 Like it
00:42:51.080 Really does
00:42:52.580 Seem like
00:42:53.100 This is the
00:42:53.780 Ballot question
00:42:54.520 Now
00:42:54.800 I mean
00:42:55.060 It's
00:42:55.480 Some
00:42:56.160 Colonists
00:42:56.680 And you're
00:42:56.960 One of them
00:42:57.380 You know
00:42:57.600 We're being
00:42:57.980 Pulled together
00:42:58.740 By this
00:42:59.260 External threat
00:43:00.080 As you know
00:43:00.920 People always
00:43:01.520 Are by
00:43:01.880 External threats
00:43:02.720 Map out for us
00:43:04.300 Where you think
00:43:05.140 It's going to go
00:43:05.960 In the next few
00:43:07.200 Days
00:43:07.580 And next few
00:43:09.180 Weeks
00:43:09.600 So Trump's
00:43:10.440 Going to be
00:43:10.800 In there
00:43:11.180 In a week
00:43:11.700 Sounds like
00:43:12.800 You and I
00:43:13.220 Both feel
00:43:13.780 He's going to
00:43:14.340 Do his
00:43:14.860 Tariffs
00:43:15.340 What's the
00:43:16.260 What is the
00:43:16.980 Consequence of
00:43:17.980 That
00:43:18.280 For the
00:43:18.960 Ontario economy
00:43:19.880 For the
00:43:20.320 Canadian economy
00:43:21.120 Well I'll just
00:43:23.360 Say on
00:43:23.680 Chrétien's piece
00:43:24.440 It was
00:43:24.680 Excellent
00:43:25.200 And I
00:43:26.460 Think it
00:43:26.780 Resonated
00:43:27.400 Because
00:43:28.040 You know
00:43:29.660 We're led
00:43:30.380 By a
00:43:30.760 Government
00:43:31.080 That does
00:43:31.620 Has not
00:43:32.500 Promoted
00:43:32.980 Canadian
00:43:33.420 Patriotism
00:43:34.260 No
00:43:34.680 In fact I
00:43:35.660 Remember
00:43:36.020 During the
00:43:36.700 Trucker
00:43:37.000 Convoy
00:43:37.440 Members of the
00:43:38.900 Government
00:43:39.060 Talking about
00:43:39.560 The Canadian
00:43:40.020 Flag being
00:43:40.720 Triggering
00:43:41.300 Because people
00:43:42.360 In the
00:43:42.620 Convoy
00:43:43.000 Use the
00:43:43.420 Canadian
00:43:43.720 Flag
00:43:44.240 Absolutely
00:43:45.380 Ridiculous
00:43:46.220 You know
00:43:47.660 This is a
00:43:48.740 Government that
00:43:49.300 Brought into
00:43:49.760 Yanmar tells
00:43:50.520 Canada is the
00:43:51.500 Greatest hotel
00:43:52.140 In the world
00:43:52.800 And there's
00:43:53.260 No core
00:43:53.680 Identity
00:43:54.360 We're a
00:43:55.520 Post-national
00:43:56.120 State and
00:43:56.680 All of that
00:43:57.300 BS and so
00:43:58.460 It was
00:43:58.740 Refreshing to
00:44:00.040 Hear a
00:44:00.920 Leader say
00:44:01.740 Something
00:44:02.220 Patriotic
00:44:03.520 And not
00:44:05.200 Just Trudeau's
00:44:06.020 Well we're
00:44:06.800 Not American
00:44:07.440 It's not how
00:44:08.600 We define
00:44:09.080 Ourselves
00:44:09.520 We're better
00:44:10.180 Than that
00:44:10.540 So that's
00:44:10.980 Why
00:44:11.140 Chrétien's
00:44:11.640 Piece
00:44:11.880 Worked so
00:44:12.960 Well
00:44:13.260 And Donald
00:44:14.140 Trump has
00:44:14.620 Done more for
00:44:15.240 Canadian
00:44:15.620 Unity
00:44:16.080 Since starting
00:44:17.580 This than
00:44:18.420 Justin Trudeau
00:44:19.440 Has
00:44:19.880 It's amazing
00:44:20.440 In his entire
00:44:20.960 Time in
00:44:21.460 Government
00:44:21.820 Yeah
00:44:22.160 He's made
00:44:23.900 It cool to
00:44:24.940 Be patriotic
00:44:25.760 For the
00:44:26.080 Guys who
00:44:26.640 You know
00:44:27.040 Just were
00:44:27.840 Dismissing us
00:44:28.620 As a
00:44:29.040 Genocidal
00:44:29.780 White settler
00:44:31.140 Racist
00:44:32.680 State
00:44:34.040 Suddenly
00:44:34.640 They want to
00:44:35.200 Save this
00:44:35.680 Place that
00:44:36.120 They've been
00:44:36.440 Denigrating
00:44:36.980 For years
00:44:37.560 It's interesting
00:44:38.200 Well
00:44:39.340 Finally
00:44:40.360 Tariffs
00:44:41.360 What do you
00:44:42.040 Think is
00:44:42.280 Going to
00:44:42.460 Happen
00:44:42.780 Like what
00:44:43.380 Does it
00:44:43.580 Mean to
00:44:43.900 Our
00:44:44.100 Economy
00:44:44.440 People want
00:44:45.260 To know
00:44:45.600 Because you
00:44:46.160 Got your
00:44:46.600 Finger
00:44:46.920 On the
00:44:47.800 Statistics
00:44:48.440 You talk
00:44:48.940 To people
00:44:49.280 In government
00:44:49.720 You know
00:44:50.500 I've heard
00:44:50.960 Rumors
00:44:51.620 About as
00:44:52.580 Many as
00:44:53.020 A million
00:44:53.340 People just
00:44:53.960 In the
00:44:54.220 Province of
00:44:54.780 Ontario alone
00:44:55.540 Losing their
00:44:57.020 Livelihoods
00:44:57.700 Is that an
00:44:58.200 Exaggeration
00:44:58.960 Is that
00:44:59.380 Possible
00:44:59.880 It depends
00:45:01.020 Depends on
00:45:01.220 It depends on
00:45:01.240 How government
00:45:01.740 Reacts
00:45:02.240 And it
00:45:02.480 Depends on
00:45:03.000 What the
00:45:03.320 Tariffs
00:45:03.660 Are
00:45:03.940 The
00:45:05.680 The oil
00:45:07.220 That goes
00:45:07.600 Down to
00:45:07.940 The United
00:45:08.260 States
00:45:08.620 Is required
00:45:09.280 Right now

00:45:23.740 Than the

00:45:24.600 Which is
00:45:25.000 West
00:45:25.240 Texas

00:45:30.660 We use

00:45:32.120 All of a
00:45:32.940 Sudden
00:45:33.100 That would
00:45:33.380 Make it
00:45:33.680 More
00:45:33.880 Expensive
00:45:34.360 That would
00:45:34.700 Drive up
00:45:35.160 Prices
00:45:35.780 In the
00:45:36.040 U.S.
00:45:36.500 Are they
00:45:37.080 Going to
00:45:37.380 Keep
00:45:37.560 Buying
00:45:37.900 That
00:45:38.140 I don't
00:45:38.880 Know
00:45:39.140 For
00:45:40.340 Ontario
00:45:40.760 Manufactured
00:45:41.560 Goods
00:45:41.980 What happens
00:45:43.060 Does
00:45:43.360 You know
00:45:43.900 One of
00:45:44.120 The things
00:45:44.380 China did
00:45:45.020 When
00:45:45.760 The U.S.
00:45:47.080 Imposed
00:45:47.620 Tariffs
00:45:48.060 On
00:45:48.460 Their
00:45:48.940 Goods
00:45:49.340 The reason
00:45:49.900 Prices
00:45:50.260 Didn't
00:45:50.580 Go up
00:45:50.940 In the
00:45:51.320 United
00:45:51.580 States
00:45:51.960 Is
00:45:52.180 The
00:45:52.400 Chinese
00:45:52.840 Government
00:45:53.180 Just
00:45:53.680 Subsidized
00:45:55.180 What
00:45:56.200 Was
00:45:56.400 Being
00:45:58.040 And
00:45:59.140 So
00:46:00.860 The
00:46:01.320 The
00:46:03.800 Chinese
00:46:04.120 Kept
00:46:04.380 Exporting
00:46:05.000 And
00:46:05.220 The
00:46:05.380 Americans
00:46:05.720 Kept
00:46:06.000 Buying
00:46:06.480 Can
00:46:07.820 We
00:46:08.000 Do

00:52:08.440 it's Friday which
00:52:09.280 means we're
00:52:09.620 taking a look
00:52:10.080 back at this
00:52:10.760 week in
00:52:11.200 politics with
00:52:11.940 our panel
00:52:12.760 let's say
00:52:13.640 hello to
00:52:14.020 Warren Kinsella
00:52:14.740 former special
00:52:15.500 advisor to
00:52:16.000 Jean Chrétien
00:52:16.480 and CEO of
00:52:17.260 the Daisy
00:52:17.620 Group
00:52:17.860 welcome
00:52:18.160 Warren
00:52:18.460 good
00:52:19.300 morning
00:52:19.500 sir
00:52:19.780 we also
00:52:20.220 have
00:52:20.400 Anthony
00:52:20.680 Koch
00:52:20.960 managing
00:52:21.360 principal
00:52:21.760 at
00:52:22.100 AK
00:52:22.480 Strategies
00:52:23.120 and
00:52:23.380 former
00:52:23.620 national
00:52:23.920 campaign
00:52:24.320 spokesperson
00:52:24.800 for
00:52:25.100 Pierre
00:52:25.260 Poliev
00:52:25.580 hello
00:52:26.160 there
00:52:26.420 Anthony
00:52:26.780 how's it
00:52:27.700 going
00:52:27.840 Ben
00:52:28.060 and
00:52:28.680 a blast
00:52:29.420 from my
00:52:29.960 past
00:52:30.320 one of my
00:52:30.660 very first
00:52:31.400 colleagues
00:52:31.840 when I
00:52:32.160 started
00:52:32.560 in television
00:52:33.240 in Canada
00:52:34.000 Jennifer
00:52:34.800 Hollett
00:52:35.220 executive
00:52:35.740 director
00:52:36.240 of the
00:52:36.680 Walrus
00:52:37.180 Jen
00:52:37.500 welcome
00:52:37.900 Ben
00:52:39.080 do you
00:52:39.320 remember
00:52:39.660 we used
00:52:40.120 to host
00:52:40.440 a TV
00:52:40.860 segment
00:52:41.280 called
00:52:41.960 be it
00:52:42.400 resolve
00:52:42.800 that
00:52:43.220 yes
00:52:43.620 and we
00:52:44.200 would
00:52:44.340 debate
00:52:44.620 things
00:52:44.880 so it
00:52:45.140 reminds me
00:52:45.640 of that
00:52:46.060 to be
00:52:46.920 on the
00:52:47.180 show
00:52:47.440 never in
00:52:48.040 my life
00:52:48.460 have I
00:52:48.760 so vehemently
00:52:49.880 disagreed
00:52:50.820 with someone
00:52:51.240 all while
00:52:51.820 enjoying their
00:52:52.400 company as
00:52:52.900 much as I
00:52:53.280 enjoyed yours
00:52:53.840 Jen
00:52:54.100 right back
00:52:55.140 at you
00:52:55.440 Ben
00:52:55.580 so let's
00:52:56.740 let's dive
00:52:57.280 into Prime
00:52:57.780 Minister
00:52:57.960 Justin Trudeau's
00:52:58.700 first media
00:52:59.700 interview since
00:53:00.620 he announced
00:53:01.440 that he intended
00:53:02.140 to resign
00:53:02.680 it wasn't a
00:53:03.040 resignation
00:53:03.300 it was an
00:53:04.000 announcement
00:53:04.280 of an
00:53:04.580 intention
00:53:04.920 and it
00:53:06.620 wasn't with
00:53:07.320 a Canadian
00:53:07.740 media outlet
00:53:08.680 it was on
00:53:09.560 CNN
00:53:10.520 Warren
00:53:11.140 what do
00:53:11.740 you make
00:53:11.920 of that
00:53:12.320 I think
00:53:13.380 it was
00:53:13.560 fine
00:53:13.940 I mean
00:53:14.360 he's
00:53:14.980 basically
00:53:15.440 just aping
00:53:16.180 what Doug
00:53:17.100 Ford has
00:53:17.700 been doing
00:53:18.140 for a few
00:53:18.700 weeks now
00:53:19.280 Ford has
00:53:19.800 been very
00:53:20.300 effectively
00:53:20.860 going on
00:53:21.580 American
00:53:22.060 TV stations
00:53:23.020 because everybody
00:53:23.960 knows
00:53:24.300 God knows
00:53:24.960 the only way
00:53:25.760 to get
00:53:26.040 into Donald
00:53:26.620 Trump's
00:53:27.080 tiny brain
00:53:27.720 is through
00:53:28.140 a TV
00:53:28.600 screen
00:53:29.100 so you
00:53:30.200 know
00:53:30.300 Ford's
00:53:30.760 been doing
00:53:31.160 that
00:53:31.440 Daniel
00:53:31.780 Smith's
00:53:32.220 been doing
00:53:32.540 that
00:53:32.860 I think
00:53:33.300 that you
00:53:33.900 know
00:53:34.000 Trudeau's
00:53:34.480 guys
00:53:34.700 looked at
00:53:35.100 it
00:53:35.200 and said
00:53:35.460 well it's
00:53:35.720 having an
00:53:36.140 impact
00:53:36.480 number one
00:53:37.100 number two
00:53:38.040 he's not
00:53:38.420 going to be
00:53:38.720 prime minister
00:53:39.340 in another
00:53:39.900 39 days
00:53:40.880 so we may
00:53:41.860 as well go
00:53:42.320 for broke
00:53:42.840 you know
00:53:43.160 going down
00:53:43.820 to Mar-a-Lago
00:53:44.540 I always thought
00:53:45.280 was the biggest
00:53:45.980 mistake
00:53:46.560 one thing
00:53:47.460 I've learned
00:53:47.980 full disclosure
00:53:48.940 because I
00:53:49.360 worked for
00:53:49.940 Hillary
00:53:50.620 and I
00:53:50.960 worked for
00:53:51.340 Kamlo
00:53:51.800 you know
00:53:52.780 sucking up
00:53:53.380 to Donald
00:53:53.860 Trump
00:53:54.220 does not
00:53:54.780 work
00:53:55.180 he respects
00:53:56.460 strength
00:53:56.980 and you
00:53:57.560 got to
00:53:57.800 show strength
00:53:58.360 and that's
00:53:58.740 what Trump
00:53:59.220 what Ford
00:54:00.420 and some
00:54:00.760 of the
00:54:00.920 others
00:54:01.160 have been
00:54:01.420 doing
00:54:01.640 so I
00:54:02.400 think
00:54:02.560 going on
00:54:03.100 American
00:54:03.500 TV
00:54:03.880 and getting
00:54:04.340 up in his
00:54:04.800 grill
00:54:05.060 that's the
00:54:05.480 way to go
00:54:05.960 Anthony
00:54:06.880 I agree
00:54:07.440 with Warren
00:54:08.140 in so far
00:54:08.600 as getting
00:54:08.900 on TV
00:54:09.300 is how
00:54:09.620 you get
00:54:10.220 in front
00:54:10.520 of Donald
00:54:11.340 Trump
00:54:11.620 but I
00:54:12.100 don't know
00:54:12.360 that Donald
00:54:12.680 Trump
00:54:12.860 watches
00:54:13.200 CNN
00:54:13.560 no that's
00:54:15.040 the point
00:54:15.440 and you
00:54:15.820 want to
00:54:16.040 talk about
00:54:16.420 Doug Ford
00:54:16.980 he's going
00:54:17.680 on Fox
00:54:18.340 and so
00:54:19.100 is Daniel
00:54:19.600 Smith
00:54:20.020 the CNN
00:54:20.920 interview
00:54:21.320 let's be
00:54:21.720 clear about
00:54:22.120 what this
00:54:22.420 is really
00:54:22.780 about
00:54:23.000 I saw
00:54:23.300 a friend
00:54:23.560 who had
00:54:23.780 this
00:54:23.940 take
00:54:24.140 I
00:54:24.280 believe
00:54:24.480 he's
00:54:24.660 doing
00:54:24.840 an
00:54:25.000 interview
00:54:25.240 with
00:54:25.620 Jen Psaki
00:54:26.300 on
00:54:27.180 MSNBC
00:54:27.980 this
00:54:28.380 Sunday
00:54:28.720 as well
00:54:29.240 I'm sure
00:54:29.640 Donald
00:54:29.920 Trump
00:54:30.140 watches
00:54:30.480 that
00:54:30.680 program
00:54:31.100 what it
00:54:31.800 really is
00:54:32.340 about
00:54:32.620 quite
00:54:32.840 frankly
00:54:33.220 is
00:54:33.500 Justin
00:54:33.860 Trudeau
00:54:34.300 trying
00:54:34.740 to
00:54:34.980 prepare
00:54:35.320 himself
00:54:35.720 for a
00:54:36.160 post
00:54:36.440 prime
00:54:36.700 ministerial
00:54:37.280 career
00:54:37.640 whatever
00:54:38.180 that's
00:54:38.600 going to
00:54:38.780 look like
00:54:39.140 at this
00:54:39.540 point
00:54:39.880 it's
00:54:40.680 the
00:54:40.880 glory
00:54:41.400 run
00:54:41.960 the
00:54:42.260 end
00:54:42.780 of
00:54:43.000 his
00:54:43.240 the
00:54:43.420 twilight
00:54:43.840 of his
00:54:44.120 prime
00:54:44.360 ministerial
00:54:44.880 career
00:54:45.160 so I
00:54:45.640 don't
00:54:46.100 buy
00:54:46.460 that this
00:54:47.300 is
00:54:47.420 really
00:54:47.640 about
00:54:47.900 communicating
00:54:48.540 directly
00:54:49.020 to
00:54:49.400 Americans
00:54:50.160 or to
00:54:50.620 the
00:54:50.760 president
00:54:51.080 he
00:54:51.740 actually
00:54:52.140 got to
00:54:52.560 communicate
00:54:52.900 directly
00:54:53.240 to
00:54:53.380 the
00:54:53.480 president
00:54:53.760 when he
00:54:54.000 went
00:54:54.160 down
00:54:54.360 to
00:54:54.520 Mar-a-Lago
00:54:54.940 whether
00:54:55.280 or not
00:54:55.560 that was
00:54:55.900 an error
00:54:56.420 is up
00:54:56.860 for debate
00:54:57.360 I think
00:54:58.080 I tend
00:54:58.480 to agree
00:54:58.960 with Warren
00:54:59.520 about the
00:55:00.860 idea that
00:55:01.340 sucking up
00:55:01.780 to the
00:55:02.000 president
00:55:02.240 is probably
00:55:02.620 not the
00:55:02.940 best way
00:55:03.460 to go
00:55:03.720 about this
00:55:04.280 but at
00:55:04.960 the end
00:55:05.120 of the
00:55:05.300 day
00:55:05.680 Jen
00:55:06.260 Psaki
00:55:06.740 and CNN
00:55:07.360 interviews
00:55:07.780 are not
00:55:08.120 the way
00:55:08.380 that you're
00:55:08.680 forgetting
00:55:09.040 even if
00:55:09.420 communicating
00:55:09.800 directly
00:55:10.120 with
00:55:10.260 Donald
00:55:10.420 Trump
00:55:10.620 if
00:55:10.760 you're
00:55:10.880 trying
00:55:11.080 to
00:55:11.300 speak
00:55:11.660 to
00:55:12.260 the
00:55:12.400 president
00:55:12.740 supporters
00:55:13.400 if
00:55:13.980 you're
00:55:14.100 trying
00:55:14.260 to
00:55:14.400 speak
00:55:14.580 to
00:55:14.720 the
00:55:14.820 kinds
00:55:15.060 of
00:55:15.200 Americans
00:55:18.480 get a
00:55:19.100 lot of
00:55:19.360 products
00:55:19.700 from
00:55:19.860 Canada
00:55:20.160 especially
00:55:20.640 in the
00:55:20.940 way
00:55:21.060 of
00:55:21.180 energy
00:55:21.520 and
00:55:22.320 one
00:55:22.500 of
00:55:22.580 the
00:55:22.700 reasons
00:55:23.000 that
00:55:23.300 Joe
00:55:23.480 Biden
00:55:23.780 was
00:55:23.940 facing
00:55:24.240 such
00:55:24.500 unpopularity
00:55:25.180 towards
00:55:25.520 the end
00:55:25.840 of his
00:55:26.060 presidency
00:55:26.480 was the
00:55:27.520 fact
00:55:27.740 that
00:55:27.900 people
00:55:28.140 would
00:55:28.340 go
00:55:28.500 around
00:55:28.780 and
00:55:28.920 see
00:55:29.080 that
00:55:29.180 the
00:55:29.300 price
00:55:29.520 of
00:55:29.660 gas
00:55:30.000 had
00:55:30.180 gone
00:55:30.380 up
00:55:30.560 so
00:55:30.720 much
00:55:31.000 if
00:55:31.140 Americans
00:55:31.540 are
00:55:31.700 able
00:55:31.800 to
00:55:31.960 understand
00:55:32.280 that
00:55:32.460 these
00:55:32.620 tariffs
00:55:32.940 are
00:55:33.080 going
00:55:33.180 to
00:55:33.260 result
00:55:33.560 in
00:55:33.700 people
00:55:33.880 paying
00:55:34.120 a lot
00:55:34.380 more
00:55:34.560 at
00:55:34.660 the
00:55:34.780 pump
00:55:35.000 for
00:55:35.160 example
00:55:35.520 I
00:55:35.820 think
00:55:45.200 speaking
00:55:45.980 fees
00:55:46.320 on
00:55:46.460 the
00:55:46.580 progressive
00:55:46.960 circuit
00:55:47.420 in
00:55:47.580 the
00:55:47.660 United
00:55:47.820 States
00:55:48.140 than
00:55:48.840 it
00:55:48.980 is
00:55:49.240 about
00:55:50.580 communicating
00:55:51.600 to
00:55:52.020 Donald
00:55:52.500 Trump
00:55:52.920 Jen
00:55:53.880 I
00:55:54.280 don't
00:55:54.600 begrudge
00:55:55.260 him
00:55:55.400 going
00:55:55.620 on
00:55:55.840 CNN
00:55:56.160 he
00:55:56.420 was
00:55:56.540 down
00:55:56.780 in
00:55:56.940 Washington
00:55:57.320 for
00:55:57.560 the
00:55:57.740 Jim
00:55:58.140 McHara
00:55:58.360 funeral
00:55:58.720 and
00:55:59.060 that's
00:55:59.540 where
00:55:59.700 Jake
00:56:00.120 Tapper
00:56:00.360 does
00:56:00.580 his
00:56:00.720 show
00:56:00.940 so
00:56:01.100 that
00:56:01.240 makes
00:56:01.440 sense
00:56:01.660 to
00:56:01.820 me
00:56:01.980 but
00:56:02.540 he
00:56:02.940 doesn't
00:56:03.600 live
00:56:03.840 in
00:56:04.020 DC
00:56:04.300 he's
00:56:04.780 been
00:56:04.940 in
00:56:05.100 Canada
00:56:05.420 since
00:56:06.380 the
00:56:09.020 16th
00:56:09.660 when
00:56:10.220 Christia
00:56:11.580 Freeland
00:56:11.820 resigned
00:56:12.240 he
00:56:12.680 cancelled
00:56:13.060 all
00:56:13.460 of
00:56:13.580 his
00:56:13.680 end
00:56:13.880 of
00:56:14.000 year
00:56:14.180 interviews
00:56:14.740 Paul
00:56:15.040 Wells
00:56:15.260 said
00:56:15.500 in
00:56:15.600 his
00:56:15.740 30
00:56:16.000 years
00:56:16.240 of
00:56:16.380 covering
00:56:16.660 Ottawa
00:56:16.940 he's
00:56:17.280 never
00:56:17.580 seen
00:56:17.860 that
00:56:18.040 happen
00:56:18.360 before
00:56:18.740 so
00:56:19.280 at
00:56:19.440 any
00:56:19.660 point
00:56:19.900 he
00:56:20.080 could
00:56:20.360 have
00:56:20.500 sat
00:56:20.780 for
00:56:20.940 an
00:56:21.040 interview
00:56:21.280 in
00:56:21.480 Canada
00:56:21.800 and
00:56:22.220 that
00:56:22.480 to
00:56:22.660 me
00:56:22.900 is
00:56:23.300 the
00:56:23.960 most
00:56:24.340 jarring
00:56:24.800 thing
00:56:25.080 that
00:56:25.300 they
00:56:25.940 went
00:56:26.420 to
00:56:26.540 somewhere
00:56:26.800 where
00:56:26.980 he
00:56:27.080 would
00:56:27.180 get
00:56:27.300 absolutely
00:56:27.960 no
00:56:28.180 pushback
00:56:28.700 on
00:56:28.960 anything
00:56:29.440 he
00:56:29.620 had
00:56:29.720 to
00:56:29.840 say
00:56:30.060 well
00:56:31.700 Anthony
00:56:32.480 you
00:56:32.700 make
00:56:32.860 a
00:56:32.980 good
00:56:33.140 point
00:56:33.500 in
00:56:33.760 terms
00:56:34.080 of
00:56:34.240 he
00:56:34.460 sinking
00:56:34.820 to
00:56:35.200 his
00:56:35.540 year
00:56:35.920 and
00:56:36.160 years
00:56:36.440 ahead
00:56:36.840 hi
00:56:37.340 Warren
00:56:37.660 and
00:56:38.000 I
00:56:38.080 worked
00:56:38.340 together
00:56:38.720 it
00:56:39.940 was
00:56:40.360 fine
00:56:40.680 I
00:56:40.880 also
00:56:41.160 agree
00:56:41.580 you
00:56:42.040 know
00:56:42.140 Ben
00:56:42.520 Canadians
00:56:43.080 probably
00:56:43.360 like
00:56:43.620 CNN
00:56:43.900 more
00:56:44.220 than
00:56:44.380 Americans
00:56:44.760 these
00:56:45.060 days
00:56:45.320 they're
00:56:45.700 really
00:56:46.140 struggling
00:56:46.720 with
00:56:46.980 their
00:56:47.160 numbers
00:56:47.560 especially
00:56:48.040 with
00:56:48.320 TV
00:56:48.540 in
00:56:48.700 the
00:56:48.800 US
00:56:49.120 and
00:56:49.660 also
00:56:50.100 the
00:56:50.380 larger
00:56:50.700 reach
00:56:51.160 are
00:56:51.560 the
00:56:51.740 headlines
00:56:52.200 off
00:56:52.820 the
00:56:53.020 interview
00:56:53.460 yeah
00:56:54.480 he
00:56:54.660 was
00:56:54.920 attending
00:56:55.240 Jimmy
00:56:55.560 Carter's
00:56:56.080 funeral
00:56:56.540 and
00:56:56.820 Jimmy
00:56:57.140 Carter
00:56:57.700 attended
00:56:58.200 his
00:56:58.760 father's
00:56:59.340 funeral
00:56:59.720 as
00:57:00.060 well
00:57:00.360 he
00:57:00.720 has
00:57:00.820 to
00:57:00.920 keep
00:57:01.100 being
00:57:01.300 the
00:57:01.480 prime
00:57:01.760 minister
00:57:02.080 this
00:57:02.420 was
00:57:02.760 a
00:57:02.940 strategic
00:57:03.380 decision
00:57:04.620 I
00:57:05.340 think
00:57:05.520 the
00:57:05.660 larger
00:57:05.920 question
00:57:06.740 that
00:57:06.980 is
00:57:07.120 ongoing
00:57:07.540 for
00:57:08.060 everyone
00:57:08.540 is
00:57:08.920 how
00:57:09.520 do
00:57:09.800 you
00:57:09.940 most
00:57:10.220 effectively
00:57:11.020 get
00:57:11.440 messages
00:57:11.840 to
00:57:12.100 Donald
00:57:12.360 Trump
00:57:12.760 in
00:57:13.140 2016
00:57:13.680 I
00:57:14.180 worked
00:57:14.480 at
00:57:14.700 Twitter
00:57:15.240 the
00:57:16.080 artist
00:57:16.760 platform
00:57:17.160 probably
00:57:17.600 known as
00:57:19.000 Twitter
00:57:19.260 and
00:57:19.780 I
00:57:19.940 remember
00:57:20.460 Donald
00:57:20.900 Trump's
00:57:21.220 own
00:57:21.540 team
00:57:22.240 couldn't
00:57:22.940 even
00:57:23.340 get
00:57:23.720 messages
00:57:24.140 across
00:57:24.580 to
00:57:24.760 them
00:57:24.940 so
00:57:25.520 he
00:57:26.020 would
00:57:26.300 they
00:57:26.980 would
00:57:27.180 leak
00:57:27.480 articles
00:57:27.920 to
00:57:28.080 the
00:57:28.220 press
00:57:28.520 so
00:57:28.740 Donald
00:57:29.260 Trump
00:57:29.620 would
00:57:30.000 read
00:57:30.260 the
00:57:30.440 press
00:57:30.840 and
00:57:31.360 then
00:57:31.480 be
00:57:31.660 influenced
00:57:32.120 from
00:57:32.640 his
00:57:32.820 own
00:57:33.080 team
00:57:33.420 so
00:57:33.780 it's
00:57:34.340 it's
00:57:34.520 a tough
00:57:35.080 game
00:57:35.300 with
00:57:35.440 Donald
00:57:35.660 Trump
00:57:35.920 no
00:57:36.180 one's
00:57:36.340 really
00:57:36.520 figured
00:57:36.780 it
00:57:36.940 out
00:57:37.100 including
00:57:37.520 those
00:57:37.780 closest
00:57:38.120 to
00:57:38.300 him
00:57:38.460 the
00:57:38.820 one
00:57:39.240 piece
00:57:40.220 of
00:57:40.580 information
00:57:41.040 that
00:57:41.220 came
00:57:41.420 out
00:57:41.600 in
00:57:41.740 this
00:57:41.880 article
00:57:42.080 that
00:57:42.240 actually
00:57:49.000 information
00:57:49.440 creating
00:57:49.800 the
00:57:50.020 feeling
00:57:50.560 that
00:57:51.400 his
00:57:51.580 government
00:57:51.920 has
00:57:52.160 been
00:57:52.300 bad
00:57:52.540 for
00:57:52.720 Canada
00:57:53.020 let's
00:57:53.280 listen
00:57:53.440 when
00:57:53.880 you
00:57:54.100 get
00:57:54.460 a
00:57:55.040 conflagration
00:57:58.720 but at
00:57:59.020 least
00:57:59.220 an
00:57:59.760 intersection
00:58:00.580 of
00:58:01.220 both
00:58:02.840 right-wing
00:58:04.940 policy
00:58:05.480 right-wing
00:58:06.120 attacks
00:58:06.960 and social
00:58:07.760 media
00:58:08.140 you end
00:58:08.900 up with
00:58:09.480 a lot
00:58:10.260 of
00:58:10.360 misinformation
00:58:10.860 disinformation
00:58:11.600 and
00:58:12.180 responsible
00:58:13.080 governments
00:58:13.560 have to
00:58:13.980 stay
00:58:14.160 focused
00:58:14.480 on the
00:58:14.800 policies
00:58:15.220 that are
00:58:15.500 making
00:58:15.720 a
00:58:15.860 difference
00:58:16.080 and
00:58:16.240 that's
00:58:16.440 what
00:58:16.520 we've
00:58:16.720 been
00:58:16.820 doing
00:58:17.020 Warren
00:58:17.740 he's
00:58:18.400 saying
00:58:18.700 it's
00:58:18.900 not
00:58:19.060 me
00:58:19.740 it's
00:58:20.020 you
00:58:20.280 you're
00:58:21.140 just
00:58:21.320 too
00:58:21.500 dumb
00:58:21.700 to
00:58:21.840 know
00:58:22.080 how
00:58:22.360 good
00:58:22.700 you
00:58:22.820 got
00:58:23.080 it
00:58:23.280 yeah
00:58:24.160 I thought
00:58:24.500 it was
00:58:24.720 rich
00:58:25.000 he would
00:58:25.340 say
00:58:25.580 that
00:58:25.820 actually
00:58:26.400 to
00:58:26.880 Jake
00:58:27.340 Tapper's
00:58:27.980 face
00:58:28.360 Jake
00:58:29.040 Tapper
00:58:29.420 is the
00:58:29.780 guy
00:58:30.000 who
00:58:30.200 famously
00:58:30.680 came
00:58:31.140 up
00:58:31.340 with
00:58:31.580 the
00:58:31.880 word
00:58:32.380 true
00:58:32.760 and
00:58:32.920 on
00:58:33.200 to
00:58:33.760 describe
00:58:34.280 the
00:58:34.680 horde
00:58:35.280 of
00:58:35.460 winged
00:58:35.880 monkeys
00:58:36.340 that
00:58:36.620 come
00:58:36.800 after
00:58:37.120 you
00:58:37.460 or
00:58:37.880 used
00:58:38.120 to
00:58:38.260 come
00:58:38.400 after
00:58:38.660 you
00:58:38.900 if
00:58:39.100 you
00:58:39.260 deign
00:58:39.680 to
00:58:40.000 be
00:58:40.720 in
00:58:41.080 any
00:58:41.300 way
00:58:41.480 critical
00:58:41.880 of
00:58:42.080 the
00:58:42.200 prime
00:58:42.400 minister
00:58:42.780 so
00:58:43.680 you
00:58:44.360 know
00:58:44.600 the
00:58:45.040 stuff
00:58:45.980 online
00:58:46.500 we
00:58:46.740 all
00:58:46.960 you
00:58:47.140 know
00:58:47.200 the
00:58:47.340 three
00:58:47.520 of
00:58:47.640 us
00:58:47.780 and
00:58:47.900 hi
00:58:48.080 Jen
00:58:48.260 we
00:58:49.280 all
00:58:49.480 know
00:58:49.620 what
00:58:49.760 it's
00:58:49.940 like
00:58:50.240 you
00:58:50.900 know
00:58:51.040 it
00:58:51.160 comes
00:58:51.380 at
00:58:51.560 you
00:58:51.660 from
00:58:51.880 the
00:58:52.060 left
00:58:52.280 and

00:58:52.680 right
00:58:52.920 you
00:58:53.180 know
00:58:53.360 and
00:58:53.600 it's
00:58:53.740 like
00:58:53.880 suck
00:58:54.160 it
00:58:54.280 up
00:58:54.480 if
00:58:54.640 you
00:58:54.720 don't
00:58:54.900 like
00:58:55.140 it

00:58:57.560 you
00:58:57.780 know
00:58:57.880 it's

00:58:58.280 bed
00:58:58.420 of
00:58:58.560 roses

00:59:02.740 did
00:59:02.960 he
00:59:03.100 become

00:59:04.040 it

00:59:08.740 because
00:59:09.180 he
00:59:09.380 stayed
00:59:09.660 too
00:59:09.920 long
00:59:10.320 you
00:59:10.940 know
00:59:11.020 the
00:59:11.140 decision
00:59:11.500 he
00:59:11.700 made
00:59:11.900 on
00:59:12.080 Monday
00:59:12.380 and
00:59:12.540 it

00:59:12.960 a
00:59:13.100 lifetime
00:59:13.400 ago
00:59:13.780 already
00:59:14.180 he
00:59:15.420 should
00:59:15.640 have

00:59:35.880 as
00:59:36.020 25

00:59:41.820 losing
00:59:42.140 Jen
00:59:42.900 does
00:59:43.160 he

00:59:46.280 does
00:59:47.320 he
00:59:47.420 really

00:59:54.780 we
00:59:55.260 ran

01:00:00.060 Justin
01:00:00.480 Trudeau
01:00:00.860 could
01:00:01.060 have
01:00:01.180 stepped
01:00:01.420 down
01:00:01.740 there
01:00:02.020 have
01:00:02.100 been
01:00:02.180 a lot
01:00:02.420 of

01:00:03.140 and
01:00:03.760 at
01:00:03.860 the

01:00:04.320 of his
01:00:04.700 answer
01:00:05.200 on
01:00:05.800 CNN
01:00:06.100 he
01:00:06.860 said
01:00:07.060 a lot
01:00:07.460 of
01:00:07.600 feelings
01:00:07.920 are
01:00:08.100 involved
01:00:08.440 yes
01:00:09.080 Canadians
01:00:10.240 have
01:00:10.740 feelings
01:00:11.320 politics
01:00:12.020 is about
01:00:13.060 feelings
01:00:13.840 that's
01:00:14.320 what
01:00:14.480 approval
01:00:15.060 ratings
01:00:15.600 come
01:00:15.960 from
01:00:16.240 he
01:00:16.720 mentioned
01:00:17.160 a
01:00:17.320 dollar
01:00:18.000 head
01:00:18.200 of
01:00:18.320 lettuce
01:00:21.860 Canadians
01:00:22.380 are
01:00:22.600 struggling
01:00:22.920 with
01:00:23.200 the
01:00:23.320 cost
01:00:23.580 of
01:00:23.720 living
01:00:24.000 he
01:00:24.820 mentioned
01:00:25.200 incumbents
01:00:25.800 are
01:00:25.920 in
01:00:26.040 trouble
01:00:26.280 around
01:00:26.560 the
01:00:26.740 world
01:00:26.960 that
01:00:27.240 is
01:00:27.440 true
01:00:27.860 then
01:00:28.680 he
01:00:29.100 highlighted
01:00:29.680 some
01:00:30.060 of
01:00:30.160 the
01:00:30.220 change
01:00:30.500 he
01:00:30.680 made
01:00:31.340 as
01:00:32.140 prime
01:00:32.340 minister
01:00:32.620 child
01:00:33.000 care
01:00:33.200 dental
01:00:33.640 care
01:00:33.820 he
01:00:34.080 should
01:00:34.300 have
01:00:34.440 stopped
01:00:34.700 there
01:00:34.980 but
01:00:35.240 Ben
01:00:35.620 to your
01:00:35.820 point
01:00:36.060 perhaps
01:00:36.500 he
01:00:36.940 was
01:00:37.120 sharing
01:00:37.500 with
01:00:37.900 us
01:00:38.060 how
01:00:38.200 he's
01:00:38.380 thinking
01:00:38.620 Anthony
01:00:39.580 what are
01:00:39.940 your
01:00:40.040 thoughts
01:00:40.300 you get
01:00:40.500 the final
01:00:40.780 thought
01:00:40.980 on this
01:00:41.320 yeah
01:00:42.240 well I
01:00:42.520 mean
01:00:42.660 again
01:00:43.460 I
01:00:43.740 just
01:00:43.880 want
01:00:43.980 to
01:00:44.040 take
01:00:44.180 issue
01:00:44.380 I
01:00:44.520 do
01:00:44.660 agree
01:00:44.920 that
01:00:45.060 there's
01:00:45.260 a
01:00:45.380 cycle
01:00:45.660 in
01:00:45.840 Canada
01:00:46.080 right
01:00:46.300 around
01:00:46.500 the
01:00:46.640 10
01:00:46.860 year
01:00:47.040 mark
01:00:47.240 people
01:00:47.440 get
01:00:47.640 tired
01:00:47.880 of
01:00:48.020 your
01:00:48.140 face
01:00:48.600 but
01:00:49.160 it's
01:00:49.300 important
01:00:49.600 to
01:00:49.800 note
01:00:50.000 Stephen
01:00:50.300 Harper
01:00:50.600 was
01:00:50.820 prime
01:00:51.060 minister
01:00:51.280 for 10
01:00:51.720 years
01:00:52.300 he did
01:00:52.580 lose
01:00:52.780 an
01:00:52.900 election
01:00:53.200 but he
01:00:53.500 still
01:00:53.660 got
01:00:53.860 32%
01:00:54.520 of
01:00:54.640 the
01:00:54.740 vote
01:00:54.900 and had
01:00:55.080 a
01:00:55.140 very
01:00:55.300 strong
01:00:55.600 opposition
01:00:56.080 right
01:00:56.520 Kretzian
01:00:57.240 Martin
01:00:57.480 governed
01:00:57.820 the
01:00:57.980 country
01:00:58.220 for a
01:00:58.520 decade
01:00:58.760 and
01:00:58.940 they
01:00:59.060 did
01:00:59.240 lose
01:00:59.480 to
01:00:59.640 Harper
01:00:59.880 in
01:01:00.060 2006
01:01:00.600 but
01:01:00.960 a
01:01:01.080 small
01:01:01.540 minority
01:01:01.860 government
01:01:02.220 the
01:01:02.440 liberal
01:01:02.620 party
01:01:02.900 still
01:01:03.140 did
01:01:03.320 reasonably
01:01:03.740 well
01:01:04.180 the
01:01:04.920 unique
01:01:05.480 situation
01:01:06.040 we
01:01:06.280 find
01:01:06.560 ourselves
01:01:06.980 in
01:01:07.240 the
01:01:07.360 sort
01:01:07.500 of
01:01:07.620 Kathleen
01:01:08.140 Wynne
01:01:08.980 Justin
01:01:09.340 Trudeau
01:01:09.900 collapse
01:01:10.520 is
01:01:11.400 yes
01:01:11.880 in
01:01:12.100 large
01:01:12.440 part
01:01:12.780 a
01:01:12.920 function
01:01:13.220 of
01:01:13.400 people
01:01:13.620 being
01:01:13.820 in
01:01:13.980 government
01:01:14.260 for a
01:01:14.580 long
01:01:14.740 period
01:01:14.980 of
01:01:15.120 time
01:01:15.340 but
01:01:15.540 it's
01:01:15.700 also
01:01:15.940 a
01:01:16.140 function
01:01:16.340 of
01:01:16.540 policy
01:01:16.880 failures
01:01:17.320 and
01:01:17.480 I
01:01:17.600 think
01:01:17.760 that's
01:01:18.420 the
01:01:18.540 difficulty
01:01:18.960 that I
01:01:19.400 see
01:01:19.620 with
01:01:19.780 the
01:01:19.900 liberal
01:01:20.080 party
01:01:20.380 right
01:01:20.580 now
01:01:20.800 it's
01:01:21.080 a
01:01:23.060 communications
01:01:23.540 issue
01:01:23.900 it's
01:01:24.060 a
01:01:24.140 communications
01:01:24.620 issue
01:01:24.980 people
01:01:25.500 just
01:01:25.740 don't
01:01:26.020 know
01:01:26.220 how
01:01:26.460 great
01:01:26.780 they
01:01:26.960 have
01:01:27.280 it
01:01:27.400 and
01:01:27.480 the
01:01:27.580 fact
01:01:27.760 of
01:01:27.900 the
01:01:27.920 matter
01:01:28.120 is
01:01:28.720 Pierre
01:01:28.980 Polyev
01:01:29.620 and
01:01:29.840 other
01:01:30.100 kinds
01:01:30.420 of
01:01:30.540 conservatives
01:01:31.000 who
01:01:31.420 are
01:01:32.140 capitalizing
01:01:33.120 on the
01:01:33.380 suffering
01:01:33.740 that people
01:01:34.180 are experiencing
01:01:34.900 right now
01:01:35.400 an angry
01:01:36.560 message
01:01:37.040 doesn't
01:01:37.940 work
01:01:38.500 unless
01:01:39.040 people
01:01:39.560 are
01:01:39.780 already
01:01:40.260 angry
01:01:40.760 so
01:01:41.100 it's
01:01:41.280 not
01:01:41.440 so
01:01:41.620 much
01:01:41.780 about
01:01:42.000 making
01:01:42.380 people
01:01:42.800 angry
01:01:43.220 so
01:01:43.800 much
01:01:44.040 as
01:01:44.200 it
01:01:44.280 is
01:01:44.400 about
01:01:44.580 tapping
01:01:45.060 into
01:01:45.560 a
01:01:45.780 sentiment
01:01:46.180 Anthony
01:01:46.680 we're
01:01:46.900 going to
01:01:47.020 stick
01:01:48.360 a pin
01:01:48.640 in
01:01:48.760 this
01:01:48.960 welcome
01:01:49.600 back
01:01:49.860 to the
01:01:50.040 Ben Mulroney
01:01:50.480 show
01:01:50.680 and
01:01:50.800 welcome
01:01:51.060 back
01:01:51.420 to
01:01:51.680 our
01:01:51.960 political
01:01:52.360 panel
01:01:52.740 for
01:01:52.940 this
01:01:53.180 week
01:01:53.460 in
01:01:53.640 politics
01:01:54.100 continued
01:01:54.860 Warren
01:01:55.440 Anthony
01:01:56.120 Jennifer
01:01:56.680 thanks so
01:01:57.140 much
01:01:57.280 for
01:01:57.420 sticking
01:01:57.700 around
01:01:58.000 pleasure
01:01:59.380 Pierre
01:02:00.340 Polyev
01:02:00.620 gave
01:02:00.900 a
01:02:01.220 pretty
01:02:01.380 big
01:02:01.580 speech
01:02:01.960 yesterday
01:02:02.460 when
01:02:03.280 he was
01:02:03.700 asked
01:02:04.060 a
01:02:04.220 question
01:02:04.520 about
01:02:04.840 given
01:02:05.400 the
01:02:05.680 looming
01:02:06.020 tariff
01:02:06.640 threat
01:02:06.960 by
01:02:07.160 Donald
01:02:07.440 Trump
01:02:07.800 should
01:02:08.020 he
01:02:08.160 not
01:02:08.400 pivot
01:02:08.720 away
01:02:09.060 from
01:02:09.740 banging
01:02:10.160 the
01:02:10.380 drum
01:02:10.640 of
01:02:11.000 the
01:02:11.200 carbon
01:02:11.580 tax
01:02:12.020 and
01:02:12.560 axing
01:02:13.040 the
01:02:13.160 tax
01:02:13.440 in
01:02:13.580 a
01:02:13.720 carbon
01:02:13.960 tax
01:02:14.300 election
01:02:14.720 here's
01:02:14.940 what
01:02:15.020 he had
01:02:15.180 to
01:02:15.280 say
01:02:15.440 for
01:02:15.740 the
01:02:15.880 first
01:02:16.060 time
01:02:16.260 in
01:02:16.340 our
01:02:16.440 living
01:02:16.620 memory
01:02:16.880 a
01:02:17.060 U.S.
01:02:17.360 president
01:02:17.580 is
01:02:17.800 directly
01:02:18.220 threatening
01:02:18.700 our
01:02:19.000 country
01:02:19.400 and we
01:02:20.020 have
01:02:20.180 an
01:02:20.300 election
01:02:20.580 that's
01:02:20.880 only
01:02:21.080 weeks
01:02:21.360 away
01:02:21.680 likely
01:02:22.200 why
01:02:23.020 can
01:02:23.320 you
01:02:23.420 walk
01:02:23.600 us
01:02:23.720 through
01:02:23.840 why
01:02:24.080 you
01:02:24.220 think
01:02:24.440 ax
01:02:24.800 the
01:02:24.960 tax
01:02:25.400 is
01:02:25.680 still
01:02:25.960 the
01:02:26.120 ballot
01:02:26.340 box
01:02:26.580 question
01:02:27.000 for
01:02:27.260 this
01:02:27.440 election
01:02:27.780 and
01:02:28.060 not
01:02:28.220 something
01:02:28.500 else
01:02:28.840 yes
01:02:31.060 because
01:02:31.340 I
01:02:31.520 think
01:02:31.800 that
01:02:32.200 it's
01:02:33.880 ironic
01:02:34.240 we
01:02:34.480 have
01:02:34.720 an
01:02:35.400 American
01:02:35.840 president
01:02:36.360 who's
01:02:36.800 threatening
01:02:37.220 tariffs
01:02:37.760 on
01:02:38.000 Canada
01:02:38.340 and
01:02:38.660 we
01:02:38.780 have
01:02:38.940 a
01:02:39.060 Canadian
01:02:39.440 government
01:02:40.940 that is
01:02:41.380 threatening
01:02:41.720 even more
01:02:42.280 devastating
01:02:42.840 tariffs
01:02:43.400 on
01:02:43.680 Canada
01:02:44.020 in the
01:02:45.040 form
01:02:45.220 of
01:02:45.340 a
01:02:45.420 carbon
01:02:45.680 tax
01:02:46.180 Warren
01:02:47.560 Kinsella
01:02:48.100 my two
01:02:48.600 cents
01:02:48.860 are
01:02:49.100 that
01:02:49.260 was
01:02:49.360 a
01:02:49.480 great
01:02:49.700 question
01:02:50.160 and
01:02:50.520 a
01:02:50.660 great
01:02:50.840 answer
01:02:51.160 yeah
01:02:52.240 I
01:02:52.400 think
01:02:52.560 both
01:02:52.860 it's
01:02:53.340 a
01:02:53.460 reasonable
01:02:53.760 question
01:02:54.220 I've
01:02:54.460 got
01:02:54.540 a
01:02:54.660 column
01:02:54.920 about
01:02:55.280 it
01:02:55.560 in
01:02:55.800 the
01:02:56.080 post
01:02:56.580 media
01:02:56.840 this
01:02:57.140 weekend
01:02:57.520 I
01:02:58.140 just
01:02:58.340 think
01:02:58.640 you
01:02:59.000 know
01:02:59.180 it's
01:02:59.500 events
01:02:59.840 dear
01:03:00.080 boy
01:03:00.320 events
01:03:00.740 right
01:03:01.040 you
01:03:01.240 know
01:03:01.360 the
01:03:01.460 world
01:03:01.720 has
01:03:01.940 changed
01:03:02.220 dramatically
01:03:02.800 since
01:03:08.660 things
01:03:08.880 that
01:03:09.000 happened
01:03:09.380 the
01:03:10.000 main
01:03:10.480 two
01:03:11.100 things
01:03:11.460 that
01:03:11.600 have
01:03:11.720 happened
01:03:12.080 the
01:03:12.360 biggest
01:03:12.620 changes
01:03:13.100 you
01:03:13.620 know
01:03:13.720 Trudeau
01:03:14.000 is
01:03:14.100 going
01:03:14.200 to
01:03:14.240 be
01:03:14.360 gone
01:03:14.640 in
01:03:14.780 less
01:03:14.960 than
01:03:15.100 two
01:03:15.260 months
01:03:15.600 he's
01:03:15.880 going
01:03:16.000 to
01:03:16.040 be
01:03:16.160 a
01:03:16.280 memory
01:03:16.600 I
01:03:17.180 do
01:03:17.340 believe
01:03:17.700 that
01:03:17.920 the
01:03:18.680 the
01:03:18.920 carbon
01:03:19.900 tax
01:03:20.300 is
01:03:20.480 dead
01:03:20.680 too
01:03:20.940 as
01:03:21.100 a
01:03:21.220 consequence
01:03:21.620 of
01:03:22.020 the
01:03:22.300 exclusions
01:03:23.620 that
01:03:24.020 Trudeau
01:03:24.640 himself
01:03:25.240 created
01:03:25.960 for it
01:03:26.480 following
01:03:27.040 protests
01:03:27.640 in
01:03:27.860 Atlanta
01:03:28.100 Canada
01:03:28.500 but
01:03:29.000 the
01:03:29.140 big
01:03:29.320 issue
01:03:29.580 is
01:03:29.740 Trump
01:03:30.040 you
01:03:30.320 know
01:03:30.420 you've
01:03:30.660 got
01:03:30.940 the
01:03:31.780 president
01:03:32.120 elect
01:03:32.420 in
01:03:32.540 the
01:03:32.640 United
01:03:32.820 States
01:03:33.140 is
01:03:33.600 publishing
01:03:34.740 maps
01:03:35.440 without
01:03:36.300 Canada
01:03:36.900 on
01:03:37.280 it
01:03:37.480 he's
01:03:38.660 saying
01:03:39.380 he's
01:03:39.560 going
01:03:39.680 to
01:03:39.780 use
01:03:40.060 economic
01:03:40.940 force
01:03:41.460 against
01:03:41.860 us
01:03:42.260 he's
01:03:43.040 mocking
01:03:43.440 us
01:03:43.800 just
01:03:44.060 about
01:03:44.280 every
01:03:44.500 single
01:03:44.720 day
01:03:44.940 he did
01:03:45.160 it
01:03:45.260 again
01:03:45.480 last
01:03:45.800 night
01:03:46.080 he's
01:03:46.580 not
01:03:46.720 just
01:03:46.940 attacking
01:03:47.440 Trudeau
01:03:48.100 he's
01:03:48.340 attacking
01:03:48.700 Pierre
01:03:49.040 Polly
01:03:49.380 said
01:03:49.880 this
01:03:50.080 week
01:03:50.260 he
01:03:50.380 doesn't
01:03:50.620 care
01:03:50.900 whether
01:03:51.460 Polly
01:03:51.840 wins
01:03:52.260 or
01:03:52.480 loses
01:03:52.740 doesn't
01:03:53.100 care
01:03:53.260 what
01:03:53.440 Polly
01:03:53.740 says
01:03:54.360 like
01:03:55.080 this
01:03:55.280 guy
01:03:55.520 is
01:03:55.720 a
01:03:55.880 threat
01:03:56.200 to
01:03:56.500 all
01:03:56.780 of
01:03:56.940 us
01:03:57.120 right
01:03:57.520 left
01:03:58.000 east
01:03:58.400 west
01:03:58.780 young
01:03:59.180 old
01:03:59.640 this
01:04:00.300 is
01:04:00.600 the
01:04:00.820 ballot
01:04:01.100 question
01:04:01.680 and I
01:04:01.980 thought
01:04:02.120 that was
01:04:02.580 the right
01:04:03.040 question
01:04:03.880 to ask
01:04:04.520 I think
01:04:05.500 and I'm
01:04:06.800 going to
01:04:06.960 take this
01:04:07.300 position
01:04:07.720 this
01:04:08.020 weekend
01:04:08.360 I think
01:04:09.360 Polly
01:04:09.640 is
01:04:09.840 fighting
01:04:10.140 the
01:04:10.360 last
01:04:10.680 war
01:04:11.020 I
01:04:11.320 think
01:04:11.480 the
01:04:11.640 carbon
01:04:11.980 tax
01:04:12.320 has
01:04:12.460 been
01:04:12.600 dead
01:04:12.800 for
01:04:12.940 quite
01:04:13.160 some
01:04:13.380 time
01:04:13.720 and
01:04:14.680 nobody
01:04:15.320 likes
01:04:15.660 it
01:04:15.800 nobody
01:04:16.020 likes
01:04:16.340 taxes
01:04:16.900 the
01:04:17.460 big
01:04:17.700 issue
01:04:18.100 is
01:04:18.560 the
01:04:18.720 threat
01:04:19.060 that
01:04:19.240 is
01:04:19.380 posed
01:04:19.660 by
01:04:20.000 Donald
01:04:20.360 Trump
01:04:20.700 because
01:04:21.280 right
01:04:21.600 now
01:04:21.960 it
01:04:22.320 doesn't
01:04:22.640 feel
01:04:22.840 like
01:04:26.940 like
01:04:27.340 the
01:04:27.500 United
01:04:27.700 States
01:04:28.020 is
01:04:28.200 our
01:04:28.360 adversary
01:04:28.900 Jen
01:04:29.760 Hollett
01:04:30.120 I think
01:04:30.800 Warren
01:04:30.980 makes
01:04:31.160 a few
01:04:31.360 good
01:04:31.520 points
01:04:31.780 there
01:04:31.900 what
01:04:32.000 do
01:04:32.080 you
01:04:32.120 think
01:04:32.340 well
01:04:33.380 Warren
01:04:33.680 yeah
01:04:33.880 what
01:04:34.180 a year
01:04:34.500 2025
01:04:35.060 was
01:04:35.820 to think
01:04:36.380 that we
01:04:36.880 are still
01:04:37.380 in early
01:04:37.900 January
01:04:38.440 so much
01:04:39.440 has been
01:04:39.720 happening
01:04:40.040 I can
01:04:40.340 only
01:04:40.600 imagine
01:04:40.940 what's
01:04:41.400 happened
01:04:42.060 while
01:04:42.340 we've
01:04:42.580 been
01:04:42.700 on
01:04:42.880 the
01:04:43.020 air
01:04:43.360 what
01:04:44.460 was
01:04:44.640 so
01:04:44.820 great
01:04:45.060 about
01:04:45.260 that
01:04:45.460 question
01:04:45.860 Ben
01:04:46.120 to
01:04:46.260 your
01:04:46.420 point
01:04:46.780 was
01:04:47.120 he
01:04:47.240 answered
01:04:47.600 it
01:04:47.820 in
01:04:48.060 front
01:04:48.300 of
01:04:48.440 an
01:04:48.620 axe
01:04:48.920 attack
01:04:49.280 sign
01:04:49.840 I
01:04:50.520 think
01:04:50.680 the
01:04:50.840 top
01:04:51.080 issue
01:04:51.360 is
01:04:51.560 cost
01:04:51.840 of
01:04:52.000 living
01:04:52.240 it
01:04:52.480 was
01:04:52.620 very
01:04:52.840 clear
01:04:53.100 in
01:04:53.200 the
01:04:53.300 US
01:04:53.520 election
01:04:53.900 it
01:04:54.060 was
01:04:54.280 for
01:04:54.460 Americans
01:04:54.900 I
01:04:55.480 think
01:04:55.740 that
01:04:56.060 eight
01:04:56.340 dollar
01:04:56.640 head
01:04:56.840 of
01:04:56.980 lettuce
01:04:57.460 that
01:04:57.800 Justin
01:04:58.100 Trudeau
01:04:58.360 mentioned
01:04:58.780 is
01:04:59.320 a
01:04:59.980 real
01:05:00.800 pain
01:05:01.660 that
01:05:01.860 people
01:05:02.160 feel
01:05:02.460 when
01:05:02.680 they're
01:05:02.920 doing
01:05:03.180 groceries
01:05:03.660 Pierre
01:05:04.220 Polly
01:05:04.480 have
01:05:04.680 had
01:05:04.960 a
01:05:05.280 great
01:05:05.480 viral
01:05:05.780 video
01:05:06.100 on
01:05:06.320 housing
01:05:06.800 I
01:05:07.220 think
01:05:07.360 those
01:05:07.760 are
01:05:07.880 the
01:05:08.020 issues
01:05:08.420 that
01:05:08.740 he
01:05:08.920 and
01:05:09.020 all
01:05:09.140 the
01:05:09.260 candidates
01:05:09.540 are
01:05:09.700 going
01:05:09.780 to
01:05:09.820 tap
01:05:10.420 into
01:05:11.260 LA
01:05:12.060 is
01:05:12.280 on
01:05:12.440 fire
01:05:12.760 right
01:05:13.040 now
01:05:13.260 so
01:05:13.460 we
01:05:13.640 can't
01:05:13.940 pretend
01:05:14.260 that
01:05:14.460 the
01:05:14.580 climate
01:05:14.820 crisis
01:05:15.300 is
01:05:15.820 not
01:05:16.120 an
01:05:16.300 issue
01:05:16.580 it's
01:05:16.840 not
01:05:17.200 something
01:05:17.480 that
01:05:17.660 Canadians
01:05:18.020 are
01:05:18.420 following
01:05:18.780 we
01:05:19.360 have
01:05:19.560 been
01:05:19.700 on
01:05:19.880 fire
01:05:20.160 as
01:05:20.600 a
01:05:20.720 country
01:05:21.100 dealing
01:05:21.700 with
01:05:21.880 wildfires
01:05:22.400 across
01:05:22.780 the
01:05:22.920 country
01:05:23.120 that
01:05:23.400 is
01:05:23.640 likely
01:05:23.940 to
01:05:24.440 return
01:05:24.800 and
01:05:24.940 continue
01:05:25.280 so
01:05:25.720 conservatives
01:05:26.960 love
01:05:27.580 and are
01:05:27.800 very
01:05:27.960 effective
01:05:28.340 at
01:05:28.700 saying
01:05:28.880 a word
01:05:29.120 like
01:05:29.400 tax
01:05:29.860 acts
01:05:30.220 to
01:05:30.360 tax
01:05:30.660 it
01:05:30.820 rhymes
01:05:31.140 it's
01:05:31.380 easy
01:05:31.620 to
01:05:31.780 remember
01:05:32.140 and
01:05:33.060 I
01:05:33.340 agree
01:05:33.580 most
01:05:34.160 voters
01:05:34.800 don't
01:05:35.120 like
01:05:35.340 taxes
01:05:35.680 but
01:05:36.260 we
01:05:36.400 all
01:05:36.560 benefit
01:05:36.900 from
01:05:37.280 what
01:05:37.460 taxes
01:05:38.160 pay
01:05:38.620 for
01:05:38.860 whether
01:05:39.140 that's
01:05:39.820 child
01:05:40.280 care
01:05:40.500 health
01:05:40.720 care
01:05:40.900 dental
01:05:41.200 care
01:05:41.480 Anthony
01:05:42.360 you've
01:05:42.760 worked
01:05:42.940 as a
01:05:43.140 former
01:05:43.320 national
01:05:43.720 campaign
01:05:44.280 spokesperson
01:05:44.820 for
01:05:45.360 Pierre
01:05:45.680 Poliev
01:05:46.080 you know
01:05:46.680 the
01:05:47.040 counterpoint
01:05:48.160 to
01:05:48.300 Warren
01:05:48.560 would
01:05:48.740 be
01:05:48.920 if
01:05:49.200 you're
01:05:49.340 in
01:05:49.460 the
01:05:49.580 poll
01:05:49.760 position
01:05:50.140 you
01:05:50.320 get
01:05:50.480 to
01:05:50.620 set
01:05:50.800 the
01:05:50.960 pace
01:05:51.320 and
01:05:52.100 he's
01:05:52.340 in
01:05:52.420 the
01:05:52.500 poll
01:05:52.640 position
01:05:53.020 yeah
01:05:53.700 for
01:05:53.880 sure
01:05:54.020 but
01:05:54.220 even
01:05:54.560 then
01:05:54.780 I
01:05:54.880 think
01:05:55.000 February
01:05:56.560 is
01:05:56.880 going
01:05:57.000 to
01:05:57.040 be
01:05:57.140 a
01:05:57.240 very
01:05:57.380 difficult
01:05:57.760 and
01:05:58.000 complicated
01:05:58.360 month
01:05:58.760 in
01:05:58.940 Canada
01:05:59.280 in
01:05:59.980 the
01:06:00.220 middle
01:06:00.400 of
01:06:00.560 the
01:06:00.660 liberal
01:06:00.860 leadership
01:06:01.220 race
01:06:01.620 lots
01:06:01.880 of
01:06:01.980 stuff
01:06:02.160 is
01:06:02.260 going
01:06:02.340 to
01:06:02.360 be
01:06:02.460 happening
01:06:02.760 and
01:06:03.000 the
01:06:03.400 president
01:06:03.680 will
01:06:03.900 be
01:06:04.020 sworn
01:06:04.260 in
01:06:04.560 and
01:06:04.820 he's
01:06:05.040 going
01:06:05.120 to
01:06:05.220 start
01:06:05.500 laying
01:06:05.920 out
01:06:06.120 his
01:06:06.240 agenda
01:06:06.600 and
01:06:06.920 going
01:06:07.160 hard
01:06:07.540 because
01:06:07.800 he
01:06:07.940 knows
01:06:08.120 we're
01:06:08.280 in
01:06:08.340 a
01:06:08.400 weak
01:06:08.540 position
01:06:08.960 but
01:06:09.780 at
01:06:10.040 the
01:06:10.120 end
01:06:10.180 of
01:06:10.240 the
01:06:10.340 day
01:06:10.620 that's
01:06:11.580 going
01:06:11.680 to
01:06:11.740 be
01:06:11.880 responded
01:06:12.320 to
01:06:12.600 in
01:06:12.780 kind
01:06:13.160 but
01:06:13.380 at
01:06:13.500 the
01:06:13.600 end
01:06:13.680 of
01:06:13.760 the
01:06:13.860 day
01:06:14.000 the
01:06:15.600 first
01:06:16.180 primary
01:06:16.680 issue
01:06:28.000 more
01:06:28.180 expensive
01:06:28.600 than
01:06:28.800 it
01:06:28.900 ever
01:06:29.060 was
01:06:29.380 that's
01:06:29.600 for
01:06:29.720 all
01:06:29.940 sorts
01:06:30.320 of
01:06:30.440 issues
01:06:30.680 and
01:06:30.860 I
01:06:30.980 think
01:06:31.140 the
01:06:31.340 carbon
01:06:31.680 tax
01:06:32.120 is
01:06:32.880 the
01:06:33.140 focal
01:06:33.460 point
01:06:33.760 the
01:06:33.920 representation
01:06:34.540 when
01:06:35.140 you
01:06:35.260 talk
01:06:35.440 about
01:06:35.640 the
01:06:35.900 carbon
01:06:37.220 tax
01:06:37.560 it's
01:06:38.120 really
01:06:38.480 a
01:06:38.880 way
01:06:39.100 to
01:06:39.320 effectively
01:06:39.760 signal
01:06:40.220 and
01:06:40.480 communicate
01:06:40.920 that
01:06:41.440 you're
01:06:41.620 taking
01:06:41.900 affordability
01:06:42.640 very
01:06:43.020 seriously
01:06:43.480 and
01:06:43.840 that's
01:06:44.160 priority
01:06:44.600 number
01:06:45.160 one
01:06:45.580 for
01:06:46.040 your
01:06:46.380 government
01:06:46.760 so
01:06:47.440 I
01:06:47.680 think
01:06:47.880 that's
01:06:48.100 not
01:06:48.240 going
01:06:48.560 to
01:06:48.660 change
01:06:49.080 but
01:06:49.740 obviously
01:06:50.220 we're
01:06:50.720 in
01:06:50.920 uncharted
01:06:51.560 waters
01:06:52.120 Mr.
01:06:52.820 Polyev
01:06:53.260 has
01:06:53.400 responded
01:06:53.880 to
01:06:54.080 all
01:06:54.240 sorts
01:06:54.500 of
01:06:54.600 things
01:06:54.800 that
01:06:54.920 have
01:06:55.000 been
01:06:55.100 thrown
01:06:55.320 his
01:06:55.520 way
01:06:55.700 over
01:06:55.840 the
01:06:55.940 course
01:06:56.180 of
01:06:56.300 his
01:06:56.380 political
01:06:56.620 career
01:06:56.900 I
01:06:57.000 don't
01:06:57.140 think
01:06:57.320 this
01:06:57.520 is
01:06:57.640 going
01:06:57.780 to
01:06:57.820 be
01:06:58.040 any
01:06:58.320 different
01:06:58.740 but
01:06:59.460 you're
01:06:59.620 right
01:06:59.800 I
01:06:59.980 think
01:07:00.200 the
01:07:00.340 conservative
01:07:00.620 has
01:07:00.740 been
01:07:00.820 setting
01:07:01.020 the tone
01:07:01.360 on
01:07:01.480 all
01:07:01.620 sorts
01:07:01.820 of
01:07:01.940 topics
01:07:02.340 the
01:07:02.860 thing
01:07:03.040 about
01:07:03.240 taxes
01:07:03.740 I
01:07:04.020 agree
01:07:04.220 everybody
01:07:04.520 hates
01:07:04.760 taxes
01:07:05.100 the
01:07:05.260 thing
01:07:05.360 about
01:07:05.520 the
01:07:05.620 carbon
01:07:05.860 tax
01:07:06.180 specifically
01:07:06.740 and
01:07:07.720 climate
01:07:08.240 change
01:07:08.600 writ large
01:07:09.700 is that
01:07:10.260 people do
01:07:10.680 care about
01:07:11.160 it
01:07:11.400 but it's
01:07:23.260 grocery
01:07:23.580 store
01:07:24.000 so
01:07:24.240 unfortunately
01:07:24.740 the
01:07:25.080 context
01:07:25.540 between
01:07:25.880 now
01:07:26.160 and
01:07:26.280 2015
01:07:26.740 is
01:07:27.080 very
01:07:27.300 different
01:07:27.680 and
01:07:28.260 I
01:07:28.340 think
01:07:28.460 this
01:07:28.680 will
01:07:28.880 still
01:07:29.180 be
01:07:29.460 primarily
01:07:32.840 an
01:07:33.160 election
01:07:33.480 focused
01:07:33.980 on
01:07:34.260 affordability
01:07:34.940 and cost
01:07:35.300 of living
01:07:35.620 let's
01:07:36.540 look at
01:07:36.920 who
01:07:37.140 might
01:07:37.480 take
01:07:37.860 the
01:07:38.120 reins
01:07:38.540 as
01:07:38.860 our
01:07:39.040 next
01:07:39.280 prime
01:07:39.520 minister
01:07:39.780 and
01:07:39.960 based
01:07:42.160 on
01:07:42.580 what
01:07:42.940 I'm
01:07:43.220 seeing
01:07:43.620 on
01:07:44.400 Pierre
01:07:44.740 Poliev
01:07:45.040 Twitter
01:07:45.460 and
01:07:46.640 the
01:07:46.860 fact
01:07:47.100 that
01:07:47.240 this
01:07:47.440 article
01:07:48.000 came
01:07:48.340 out
01:07:48.580 linking
01:07:49.000 him
01:07:49.400 to
01:07:49.860 Ghislaine
01:07:50.460 Maxwell
01:07:50.980 I
01:07:51.360 got to
01:07:51.640 wonder
01:07:51.880 whether
01:07:52.340 the
01:07:53.260 Tories
01:07:53.720 view
01:07:54.120 him
01:07:54.440 as
01:07:54.740 the
01:07:54.900 front
01:07:55.140 runner
01:07:55.380 and
01:07:55.640 possibly
01:07:56.040 the
01:07:56.300 most
01:07:56.680 formidable
01:07:57.240 foe
01:07:57.740 that
01:07:57.880 they
01:07:58.020 could
01:07:58.220 meet
01:07:58.560 Warren
01:07:59.720 you
01:07:59.980 have
01:08:00.180 far
01:08:00.420 more
01:08:00.620 experience
01:08:01.120 in
01:08:01.340 the
01:08:01.880 world
01:08:02.080 of
01:08:02.200 campaigns
01:08:02.600 than
01:08:02.800 I
01:08:03.000 so
01:08:03.440 what's
01:08:03.680 your
01:08:03.760 take
01:08:04.020 Warren
01:08:07.260 we
01:08:08.800 lost
01:08:09.020 Warren
01:08:09.240 sorry
01:08:10.120 my
01:08:10.800 colleague
01:08:11.220 Brian
01:08:11.520 Lilly
01:08:11.760 was
01:08:12.000 a
01:08:12.100 guy
01:08:12.280 who
01:08:12.460 came
01:08:12.680 up
01:08:12.860 with
01:08:12.980 that
01:08:13.160 one
01:08:13.440 and
01:08:14.180 he
01:08:15.260 and
01:08:15.400 I
01:08:15.480 had
01:08:15.640 lunch
01:08:15.900 yesterday
01:08:16.340 and
01:08:16.560 it's
01:08:16.800 been
01:08:16.940 kicking
01:08:17.200 around
01:08:17.440 the
01:08:17.620 internet
01:08:17.900 for
01:08:18.140 quite
01:08:18.380 some
01:08:18.600 time
01:08:18.940 it's
01:08:19.220 not
01:08:19.500 shocking
01:08:20.800 news
01:08:21.300 you
01:08:21.500 can
01:08:21.820 find
01:08:22.100 those
01:08:22.320 photos
01:08:22.620 quite
01:08:22.920 easily
01:08:23.360 it's
01:08:23.720 a
01:08:23.840 legitimate
01:08:24.160 question
01:08:24.720 to
01:08:24.940 ask
01:08:25.320 the
01:08:25.840 question
01:08:26.140 is
01:08:26.420 who's
01:08:26.680 asking
01:08:27.120 it
01:08:27.400 my
01:08:28.040 understanding
01:08:28.720 is
01:08:29.200 and I
01:08:29.600 don't
01:08:29.780 know
01:08:29.960 this
01:08:30.160 for
01:08:30.340 sure
01:08:30.600 it
01:08:30.900 actually
01:08:31.280 wasn't
01:08:31.720 the
01:08:31.880 Tories
01:08:32.180 who
01:08:32.400 did
01:08:32.560 it
01:08:32.720 it
01:08:33.240 was
01:08:33.420 a
01:08:33.680 competitor
01:08:35.340 liberal
01:08:36.280 candidate
01:08:36.920 campaign
01:08:37.860 interesting
01:08:38.700 so
01:08:39.640 you know
01:08:40.380 that suggests
01:08:40.980 that the
01:08:41.280 elbows
01:08:41.580 are going
01:08:41.920 to get
01:08:42.140 up
01:08:42.380 who
01:08:43.020 are
01:08:43.240 the
01:08:43.480 candidates
01:08:44.080 that
01:08:44.640 the
01:08:44.840 Tories
01:08:45.120 are
01:08:45.320 worried
01:08:45.560 about
01:08:45.840 I
01:08:46.080 think
01:08:46.240 if
01:08:46.400 I
01:08:46.520 were
01:08:46.620 them
01:08:49.500 worried
01:08:50.040 with
01:08:50.500 our
01:08:51.360 carny
01:08:52.120 you know
01:08:52.700 when you're
01:08:53.200 facing an
01:08:53.720 economic
01:08:54.120 confrontation
01:08:54.680 with Donald
01:08:55.380 Trump's
01:08:55.880 new
01:08:56.340 administration
01:08:56.960 having the
01:08:57.660 former
01:08:57.960 governor of
01:08:58.520 the Bank
01:08:58.800 of Canada
01:08:59.340 you could
01:08:59.960 do worse
01:09:00.480 than having
01:09:00.980 a guy
01:09:01.280 like that
01:09:01.700 representing
01:09:02.200 the country
01:09:02.820 Christopher
01:09:03.640 Freeland
01:09:03.920 who was
01:09:04.700 part of
01:09:05.820 the Trudeau
01:09:06.320 circle
01:09:06.660 obviously
01:09:07.100 as deputy
01:09:07.640 prime minister
01:09:08.300 and minister
01:09:09.240 of finance
01:09:09.680 but you know
01:09:10.400 dramatically
01:09:11.000 stepped away
01:09:11.940 from Trudeau
01:09:13.080 and damaged
01:09:13.760 him mortally
01:09:14.660 at the start
01:09:15.580 of December
01:09:16.140 so she's
01:09:16.760 kind of an
01:09:17.200 outsider
01:09:17.620 now
01:09:18.020 and then
01:09:19.240 Chrissy
01:09:19.600 Clark
01:09:19.900 and I
01:09:20.680 personally
01:09:21.720 I just
01:09:22.260 believe
01:09:22.500 all the
01:09:22.920 you know
01:09:23.220 my two
01:09:23.580 friends
01:09:24.000 their
01:09:24.540 parties
01:09:24.940 have
01:09:25.120 both
01:09:25.360 been
01:09:25.540 led
01:09:25.780 by
01:09:26.020 women
01:09:26.400 it's
01:09:27.200 high
01:09:27.420 time
01:09:27.740 that
01:09:27.920 the
01:09:28.040 Liberal
01:09:28.260 Party
01:09:28.560 of
01:09:28.740 Canada
01:09:29.020 had
01:09:29.360 a
01:09:29.520 woman
01:09:29.840 as
01:09:30.480 leader
01:09:30.800 like
01:09:31.340 it's
01:09:31.540 just
01:09:31.740 it's
01:09:32.140 kind
01:09:32.340 of
01:09:32.480 ridiculous
01:09:33.060 that
01:09:33.720 we've
01:09:33.920 gotten
01:09:34.100 to this
01:09:34.500 point
01:09:34.700 in
01:09:34.820 our
01:09:34.960 history
01:09:35.240 and
01:09:35.400 it's
01:09:35.560 never
01:09:35.760 happened
01:09:36.180 so
01:09:36.740 that's
01:09:37.000 really
01:09:37.220 down
01:09:37.580 to
01:09:37.780 Freeland
01:09:38.180 and to
01:09:38.660 Clark
01:09:39.040 Clark
01:09:39.920 is the
01:09:40.300 one
01:09:40.460 I
01:09:40.620 think
01:09:40.820 would
01:09:41.020 be
01:09:41.140 the
01:09:41.300 better
01:09:41.520 pick
01:09:41.820 because
01:09:42.040 she's
01:09:42.240 a
01:09:42.380 westerner
01:09:42.900 she's
01:09:43.260 a
01:09:43.380 blue
01:09:43.540 liberal
01:09:43.880 she's
01:09:44.620 away
01:09:44.860 from
01:09:45.060 all
01:09:45.220 the
01:09:45.380 controversies
01:09:46.220 and
01:09:46.400 the
01:09:46.520 missteps
01:09:46.940 of
01:09:47.140 the
01:09:47.280 Trudeau
01:09:47.540 administration
01:09:48.220 she's
01:09:49.080 the
01:09:49.180 one
01:09:49.320 they
01:09:49.460 should
01:09:49.580 look
01:09:49.760 at
01:09:49.900 I
01:09:50.060 just
01:09:50.220 don't
01:09:50.460 know
01:09:50.720 guys
01:09:51.120 and
01:09:51.320 Ben
01:09:51.500 you
01:09:51.660 would
01:09:51.800 be
01:09:51.980 the
01:09:52.320 best
01:09:52.520 guy
01:09:52.720 to
01:09:52.900 know
01:09:53.200 is
01:09:53.800 what
01:09:54.160 her
01:09:54.340 French
01:09:54.700 is
01:09:54.860 like
01:09:55.100 that's
01:09:55.440 the
01:09:55.520 question
01:09:55.940 that's
01:09:56.140 got
01:09:56.280 to
01:09:56.360 be
01:09:56.480 asked
01:09:56.740 well
01:09:56.880 that's
01:09:57.080 a
01:09:57.340 very
01:09:57.940 good
01:09:58.120 question
01:09:58.420 I
01:09:58.600 I
01:09:58.680 wish
01:09:59.580 we
01:09:59.660 had
01:09:59.760 time
01:09:59.960 to
01:10:00.080 talk
01:10:00.280 about
01:10:00.460 the
01:10:00.700 liberal
01:10:01.460 candidate
01:10:01.840 who
01:10:02.120 says
01:10:02.380 that
01:10:02.540 you
01:10:02.660 don't
01:10:02.840 need
01:10:03.020 to
01:10:03.120 know
01:10:03.260 French
01:10:03.520 to
01:10:03.660 become
01:10:03.860 the
01:10:04.000 liberal
01:10:04.180 leader
01:10:04.400 but
01:10:04.600 Jen
01:10:04.840 I
01:10:05.240 want
01:10:05.360 to
01:10:05.460 stick
01:10:05.660 with
01:10:05.940 Pierre
01:10:08.700 Poliev
01:10:09.080 saying
01:10:09.800 it
01:10:10.000 doesn't
01:10:10.380 matter
01:10:10.620 who
01:10:10.840 runs
01:10:11.580 this
01:10:11.780 party
01:10:12.100 they
01:10:12.440 are
01:10:12.560 all
01:10:12.820 Justin
01:10:13.200 Trudeau
01:10:13.500 I'm
01:10:13.720 running
01:10:13.940 against
01:10:14.200 Justin
01:10:14.480 Trudeau
01:10:14.780 but
01:10:14.940 in
01:10:15.320 the
01:10:15.400 next
01:10:15.540 election
01:10:15.820 Justin
01:10:16.100 may
01:10:16.320 have
01:10:16.500 a
01:10:16.600 different
01:10:16.820 face
01:10:17.100 he
01:10:17.260 may
01:10:17.380 have
01:10:17.520 Christie's
01:10:17.960 face
01:10:18.180 or
01:10:18.340 Christie's
01:10:19.080 face
01:10:19.360 or
01:10:19.660 Carney's
01:10:20.220 face
01:10:20.420 but
01:10:20.580 it's
01:10:20.780 still
01:10:21.040 Justin
01:10:21.480 Trudeau
01:10:21.820 do
01:10:22.140 you
01:10:22.200 think
01:10:22.320 that's
01:10:22.520 a
01:10:22.580 good
01:10:22.680 tactic
01:10:23.040 oh
01:10:24.300 he
01:10:24.420 can
01:10:24.560 try
01:10:24.900 I
01:10:25.060 don't
01:10:25.220 think
01:10:25.400 that
01:10:25.620 works
01:10:25.960 for
01:10:26.180 the
01:10:26.340 average
01:10:26.600 person
01:10:27.140 leaders
01:10:28.300 and
01:10:28.720 leadership
01:10:28.980 campaigns
01:10:29.660 matter
01:10:30.280 you
01:10:30.720 know
01:10:30.860 what's
01:10:31.200 interesting
01:10:31.760 about
01:10:32.180 this
01:10:32.600 possible
01:10:33.420 association
01:10:34.220 with
01:10:34.820 Carney
01:10:35.100 and
01:10:35.260 Epstein
01:10:35.520 and
01:10:35.700 Maxwell
01:10:36.020 is
01:10:36.340 no
01:10:36.920 candidate
01:10:37.340 wants
01:10:37.700 that
01:10:37.860 association
01:10:38.580 beyond
01:10:39.800 if there
01:10:40.120 was
01:10:40.260 any
01:10:40.420 friendship
01:10:40.820 there
01:10:41.200 or
01:10:41.540 connection
01:10:42.160 to
01:10:43.080 horrible
01:10:43.660 things
01:10:43.940 like
01:10:44.120 human
01:10:44.320 trafficking
01:10:44.740 it
01:10:45.540 does
01:10:45.760 position
01:10:46.340 Carney
01:10:46.920 as
01:10:47.680 an
01:10:47.880 elite
01:10:48.160 and
01:10:48.680 I
01:10:48.800 think
01:10:48.960 that's
01:10:49.380 what
01:10:49.580 Pierre
01:10:49.840 Polyev
01:10:50.480 and
01:10:50.940 some
01:10:51.100 of
01:10:51.160 the
01:10:51.200 other
01:10:51.380 candidates
01:10:51.820 might
01:10:52.100 be
01:10:52.280 interested
01:10:52.660 in
01:10:52.900 saying
01:10:53.180 hey
01:10:53.700 I
01:10:54.080 get
01:10:54.300 what
01:10:54.700 it's
01:10:54.880 like
01:10:55.020 to
01:10:55.160 be
01:10:55.360 an
01:10:55.660 average
01:10:55.840 Canadian
01:10:56.240 because
01:10:56.480 I'm
01:10:56.640 an
01:10:57.120 average
01:10:57.400 Canadian
01:10:57.780 even
01:10:58.160 though
01:10:58.300 most
01:10:58.520 politicians
01:10:59.060 are
01:10:59.420 no
01:10:59.560 longer
01:10:59.860 average
01:11:00.200 Canadians
01:11:00.620 for being
01:11:01.140 real
01:11:01.540 hey

01:21:12.100 Thank you.
01:21:14.100 Thank you.
01:21:14.660 There is a zip file.
01:21:15.820 We can have it into file and die in the snow, I guess.
01:21:19.100 That's what I think, Warren.
01:21:20.180 You don't have to like it, but that's the conclusion you can draw.
01:21:23.540 He said yesterday he'd get it done in a year.
01:21:26.440 He does not sound like he's kidding.
01:21:28.260 Yeah, well, that's my point.
01:21:29.580 It doesn't sound like he's kidding.
01:21:31.180 It doesn't sound like he's kidding.
01:21:33.820 And giving up and saying there's nothing we can do about it
01:21:36.920 doesn't seem to be a very good strategy to me.
01:21:39.820 But, you know, you are a strategist, so cast your mind forward.
01:21:43.380 If you were advising any of the Liberal leadership candidates,
01:21:47.020 and right now that just seems to be Mark Carney and Krista Freeland,
01:21:50.400 what would you, and we're going to conclude this way,
01:21:52.740 what would you be advising them to say about what Canadians now,
01:21:57.480 east, west, north, south, old, young, blue, red,
01:22:01.900 everybody agrees is now a big problem.
01:22:04.480 What would you be advising them to do?
01:22:06.760 I advise them to find a candidate who isn't swimming in the sewage
01:22:10.640 or fail the state.
01:22:11.640 I would advise them to know they should fight people
01:22:14.740 before they have an influence this idea as far as they can.
01:22:17.640 I would also tell them that if Donald Trump decides that he's marching north,
01:22:22.220 there is little that a strongly worded letter of the UN will do.
01:22:26.220 Look at how they've handled Israel.
01:22:28.480 And I know we understand that.
01:22:30.600 I don't think anybody will save us.
01:22:33.260 And I don't think that it is a reasonable or even possible fight.
01:22:37.800 And I am depressed as fuck about it.
01:22:40.340 And we keep on hoping next year we'll get better.
01:22:43.680 Europe is busy with Ukraine.
01:22:45.340 The Middle East is busy with Israel.
01:22:46.840 Sudan raises on in North Africa.
01:22:48.660 China is ready to go for Taiwan.
01:22:50.300 No one gives a fuck about maple syrup.
01:22:53.840 That's what I think.
01:22:55.180 All right.
01:22:56.260 John Merez, thank you for your thoughts,
01:22:58.780 as depressing as they are this week.
01:23:00.700 Thank you, sir.
01:23:01.300 I go, I go.
01:23:23.180 I'm about to climb high in a tree
01:23:26.720 I could be happy
01:23:28.820 I could be happy
01:23:29.580 I could be happy
01:23:30.620 Or don't you sky my heart a tear
01:23:34.020 I could be happy
01:23:36.200 I could be happy
01:23:37.960 Maybe it's time a mile down the road
01:23:41.640 I could be happy
01:23:43.480 I could be happy
01:23:45.580 All of these things I do
01:23:51.340 All of these things I do
01:23:54.940 To get away from you
01:23:57.900 Get away, run away, far away, how do I?
01:24:07.560 Get away, run away, far away, how do I?
01:24:14.520 Escape from you
01:24:16.240 I would like to climb high in a tree
01:24:25.400 I could be happy, I could be happy
01:24:29.400 I'd like to climb my holiday
01:24:32.420 I could be happy, I could be happy
01:24:36.700 Maybe some a mile down the night
01:24:40.340 I could be happy, I could be happy
01:24:46.240 All of these things I do
01:24:50.020 All of these things I do
01:24:53.620 To get away from you
01:24:56.620 Get away, run away, far away, how do I?
01:25:06.020 Get away, run away, far away, how do I?
01:25:13.200 Escape from you
01:25:14.940 I would like to climb high in a tree
01:25:24.320 I could be happy, I could be happy
01:25:28.060 I'd like to climb my holiday
01:25:31.120 I could be happy, I could be happy
01:25:35.320 Maybe some a mile down the night
01:25:39.060 I could be happy, I could be happy
01:25:42.660 Get away, run away, how do I?
01:26:04.040 Get away, run away, far away, how do I?
01:26:05.980 Welcome back.
01:26:30.800 We're going to bust away from the Q&A.
01:26:34.040 I was doing my best to give you that in English and in French.
01:26:38.640 We're joined now by Warren Kinsella, former special advisor to Jean Chrétien and CEO of the Daisy Group,
01:26:43.320 as well as Paul Wells, Canadian journalist and pundit.
01:26:46.600 Gentlemen, welcome to the show.
01:26:48.560 Paul, I will put it to you first.
01:26:50.740 What are your first impressions of this press conference?
01:26:54.900 He sounded sad.
01:26:56.440 He did not want to quit.
01:26:57.880 He wanted this fight against Pierre Poiliev.
01:27:00.380 But you can draw a straight line between Donald Trump's post on Truth Social six weeks ago and this resignation.
01:27:11.380 The threat of 25 percent tariffs on every Canadian import stress tested this government and Trudeau couldn't meet the test.
01:27:20.960 So he's now going to prorogue Parliament.
01:27:26.160 It wasn't guaranteed that the governor general would accept, but she has.
01:27:31.340 And it's quite a long prorogation, three months, during which Trump, if he feels like it, can impose those tariffs.
01:27:38.100 And this government will have this lame duck government with not a lot of legitimacy will have very few tools to respond with.
01:27:50.540 It's a it's a lousy situation and it's one that Trudeau has allowed himself to get backed into.
01:27:57.160 Warren, what's your take?
01:27:59.140 He looks relieved to me.
01:28:00.780 A little bit sad, as Paul says, but, you know, there was an inevitability, inevitability of this moment.
01:28:08.660 And, you know, he really had no way out.
01:28:11.760 There was no path back to viability, let alone victory.
01:28:15.640 So he did what he had to do.
01:28:18.180 And the prorogation makes sense to me.
01:28:20.420 There's some precedent for that.
01:28:22.420 Having a leadership race in these compressed circumstances is going to be challenging.
01:28:26.880 But Doug Ford became a majority premier after 120 days, you know, after his predecessor left.
01:28:33.000 So I think it's doable.
01:28:34.400 It's going to be a lot of fun, actually, for guys in our business to pay attention to what's going to take place.
01:28:40.360 But, you know, he had to go.
01:28:42.320 It was obvious he'd lost his caucus.
01:28:44.660 He'd lost public opinion.
01:28:47.400 And he just, you know, manifestly was not the right guy for the circumstances we find ourselves in as a country.
01:28:53.620 Paul, in such a short period of time, how can the apparent frontrunners who have been walking in lockstep with this prime minister and this government helping enact the policies that it looks like so many Canadians want to move away from, how can they differentiate themselves from the pack?
01:29:12.700 How can they say, elect me as leader, I will be a different kind of liberal, even though they helped build this particular brand of the liberal party?
01:29:20.280 It's going to be difficult.
01:29:50.280 And that makes him Trudeau's economic advisor on X or Twitter or whatever we're calling it.
01:29:58.100 He keeps saying carbon tax, Carney, is just like Trudeau.
01:30:01.820 I suspect that's a connection that a lot of liberal, that a lot of Canadian voters would make anyway.
01:30:10.460 As for Christa Freeland, she sure had a good day when she quit three weeks ago, but she has been his finance minister since 2020.
01:30:19.920 And, you know, that's a legacy that's hard to back away from.
01:30:25.040 Warren.
01:30:25.200 Warren, you said on X, I believe yesterday, there's a path forward for at least a slight uptick in the polls bit by bit over the course of this for the liberal party.
01:30:39.280 But if this liberal race overlaps with Trump's first 100 days and immediately during those 100 days we get slapped with those tariffs, this liberal party, regardless of who's leading it, is going to have to own that.
01:30:56.980 And the fact that they would be trying to, you know, redecorate the house while the house is on fire.
01:31:03.520 I don't see how that leads to a better result in the next election for the party, regardless of who's leading it.
01:31:11.300 Well, yeah, the tariffs are bad, and I believe it's not an if.
01:31:15.280 I think there's an inevitability of them.
01:31:17.480 He campaigned on them.
01:31:19.320 He's got a mandate to do them.
01:31:21.060 He's being certified today at Congress.
01:31:23.280 He's going to do it.
01:31:24.240 He needs to do the tariffs in order to pay for his tax cut.
01:31:28.000 So whoever is there is going to have to deal with it.
01:31:30.480 And, you know, do we as a country believe we have an ability to change Donald Trump's mind?
01:31:36.720 Well, you know, I don't think so.
01:31:40.580 None of us have had that ability to figure out what goes on inside that man's mind.
01:31:45.060 So the leadership campaign will happen, and all of them will pronounce on what Trump is saying.
01:31:51.940 Some of them will take a very anti-Trump stance.
01:31:54.600 Some will be more moderate, you know, and Polly will be asked about it too.
01:31:59.540 But, I mean, at the end of the day, the tariffs are going to happen, and it's going to hammer the Canadian economy,
01:32:05.280 and a liberal leadership race is going to have no meaningful effect on it or not.
01:32:09.380 Well, we're going to have to leave it there, gentlemen.
01:32:10.960 Thank you so much for being so patient as we waited to hear the prime minister's words.
01:32:14.280 I do appreciate it, and I hope I'll speak to you again very soon.
01:32:17.700 You got it.
01:32:18.200 Thanks, Ben.
01:32:18.500 I never won, I always run
01:32:34.760 Hey, I won't work, but I'll stand right out of the sun
01:32:39.200 Trying not to jump the fly
01:32:41.240 Cause like mirrors and smoke, this is all a joke
01:32:45.440 Back this time in California
01:32:48.720 It's a lie on your house when I kissed ya
01:32:52.360 On the couch and I made you listen
01:32:55.580 To all the songs that I wish I'd read it
01:32:59.240 To all the songs that I wish I'd read it
01:33:01.240 To all the songs that I wish I'd read it
01:33:05.240 You could be anything to me
01:33:06.940 I could be anything to me
01:33:21.880 I could be anything to you
01:33:23.980 To all the songs that I wish I'd read it
01:33:27.120 You could be anything to me
01:33:31.760 I could be anything to you
01:33:36.720 But through the drugs I went on
01:33:42.320 And I think I still like you
01:33:46.440 The sun comes up over California
01:33:50.740 I'm in too deep and I wanna kiss ya
01:33:54.320 On your lips while I make you listen
01:33:57.660 To all the shit that I wish I were in
01:34:00.620 Because I am like California
01:34:03.880 In July on the night when I kissed ya
01:34:07.580 On my couch and I make you listen
01:34:10.760 To all the songs that I wish I were in
01:34:24.320 Lunar
01:34:27.000 Blame
01:34:32.200 Blame
01:34:33.920 Blame
01:34:35.720 Blame
01:34:36.640 Blame
