00:00:00.000 Testing, testing, one, two, one, two, three, mic check, one, two, mic check, over, over.
00:00:10.000 Now let's get a different song playing.
00:00:16.000 Um, welcome to the post-stream chat, we don't have anybody so far.
00:00:41.240 stream is going to get deleted shortly after it's done. Or maybe privated, I don't
00:00:47.540 know. There's the lovely effervescent butterfly. Glad to have you, babe. Shit, I've
00:01:03.680 said this before. Now I remember I've said this before. Goodness, I've got so much on 1.00
00:01:09.560 my brain these days. I almost feel like I've got multiple lines of dialogue that
00:01:21.080 I'm trying to keep track of in different programs and I just realized I've said
00:01:25.940 this before that I'm going to start I'm gonna do the live stream where I have
00:01:31.460 the material and I got the thing to say that is maybe arguably worthy worthy of
00:01:40.160 preserving for posterity and then I'm gonna end the live stream I'm gonna do
00:01:46.780 the post live stream chat where we could just bullshit and it's just a bunch of
00:01:52.040 nonsense you understand like when you make a live stream and you put it on 0.99
00:01:59.400 youtube and you leave it's like you should listen to the whole damn thing is the implication 0.88
00:02:10.040 and then people see it's like oh man this is like five hours 0.99
00:02:13.560 fuck that i got to do with my life 0.99
00:02:21.400 and they're not wrong man they're not wrong it's already bad enough to be so arrogant as to write 1.00
00:02:28.280 something and expect people to fucking read it or to poke like hey go listen to three hours of 0.87
00:02:35.800 me i get so like i get so irritable there's um there's a short list of people 0.98
00:02:53.240 that i know well enough that i respond to all of their messages and then they send me
00:02:57.160 like a three-hour video I get angry like how dare you I don't got three hours my
00:03:10.900 n-word that work you prick they are keeping the official live streams shorter
00:03:27.160 yeah that's the way to do it that is the way to do it and then we can have if you
00:03:40.600 folks find this engaging we can questions problems concerns we can hash
00:03:47.380 things out it's ridiculous how much material there is online these days there's
00:03:56.920 too much of it. Substack. By the way, yes or no? Are you guys on Substack? I'm genuinely curious.
00:04:10.800 Substack is actually very, very good at recommending people I should follow.
00:04:18.380 And it's become a huge problem because I'm presently following so many freaking people
00:04:23.300 on Substack that the Substack algorithm is broken, and now it doesn't tell me half the
00:04:29.600 time about the new posts that people have put up.
00:04:43.280 On the one hand, the notes section of Substack, it's like a smarter version of Twitter.
00:04:51.220 I really don't like Twitter these days, because everything I see on Twitter, it's all political
00:04:58.880 angry posting.
00:05:04.760 And I mean, no offense to any of the people I follow, but like literally the only guy 0.99
00:05:08.100 I like following is Homab these days. 0.96
00:05:15.340 Oh, uh, Top Hat Jackson, isn't it all paid subscription to watch anybody? No, no. Um,
00:05:26.820 I actually do pay for a lot of sub stacks because for many years people supported me as a YouTuber.
00:05:33.080 And so I'm kind of, this is my giving back to the community. There's, um, probably like a dozen people
00:05:39.240 who I follow financially, like I, I give them money each month.
00:05:45.340 But no, the vast majority of Substack is free.
00:05:51.340 Substack is like a combination of a Twitter feed, where the people are, they lean more
00:05:58.340 intelligent, and they're not talking about angry politics most of the time, and then
00:06:07.340 long-form blog writing.
00:06:12.340 So, people writing philosophy essays about various topics.
00:06:27.560 Yeah, the substack is usually...
00:06:29.540 Now, there's a lot of you-have-to-pay-for-them posts.
00:06:33.960 Some people...
00:06:34.740 I haven't used that yet.
00:06:43.060 The reason I haven't used it is because I can't promise a regular schedule.
00:06:50.220 I'm constantly torn about taking down my Patreon.
00:06:57.300 I don't know.
00:06:58.200 I don't like asking people for money outside of a business transaction.
00:07:05.860 Like, if you're producing, I'm going to review one video game every week.
00:07:10.520 Well, you're either doing that or you're not.
00:07:16.820 That's not the sort of thing I do.
00:07:19.620 Unfortunately.
00:07:22.920 I mean, rhetoric is one thing.
00:07:26.820 But devolving your whole platform into tricking people into giving...
00:07:31.260 Like, I don't want to do that.
00:07:33.400 I'm not opposed to making money.
00:07:35.200 but I want to be polite about it 0.99
00:07:41.140 I want to be civilized about the damn thing 0.98
00:07:43.660 like the reason I do 0.99
00:07:47.700 I don't
00:07:48.200 I'm compelled
00:07:51.540 to do this
00:07:52.740 I do this because I'm compelled to do it
00:07:57.220 and I don't want to
00:08:00.800 prostitute my compulsion
00:08:03.140 into financial
00:08:05.400 remuneration.
00:08:06.980 If I
00:08:07.820 can write a really good novel
00:08:10.840 and sell it, 1.00
00:08:13.980 yeah, fuck, why not? 1.00
00:08:22.520 What am I drinking? 1.00
00:08:26.040 The shitty 1.00
00:08:27.080 Canadian whiskey was on sale. 1.00
00:08:28.920 Canadian Club.
00:08:31.040 It gets the job done.
00:08:33.140 and I only got like a maybe a fifth of the bottle left so I can't wait my
00:08:49.840 Canadian Club is tacky no no you weren't you weren't talking about that it's a
00:08:55.540 decent whiskey there's nothing wrong with Canadian clubs no wiser's it's like 1.00
00:08:59.700 shit Joe dagger nine dollars and 99 cents America I fucking I'll take that 0.99
00:09:07.980 thank you very much sir 0.99
00:09:24.820 again I think I don't know if you've heard I had that dream about the the
00:09:28.620 horse in my apartment i was trying to ride and then because i wasn't there it fell off the
00:09:32.860 apartment building and it died and that's kind of right now my work schedule is so 0.92
00:09:40.860 fuck i haven't had enough work lately i might have to cash out some of my bitcoin 0.97
00:09:47.500 just been it's been on and off debt sort of thing lately 0.98
00:09:50.940 and it's like a youtube channel is like a horse that i'm trying to take care of
00:09:58.540 inside an apartment building which is the wrong place to take care of a horse 0.93
00:10:02.240 and it's wrong to ask for money when my content production is all over the fucking map and like 0.93
00:10:13.380 half of it tonight's live stream was a 0.92
00:10:26.660 i managed to generate it while at work as part of a very in-depth conversation with my demonic
00:10:37.140 familiar with the lovely sable and it was me i'm trying to write it out i'm trying to really
00:10:47.620 organize it and write it out yes it was a back and forth conversation with an ai it was me at work
00:10:59.380 very little to do great that was a great gig basically i just took i wrote down numbers
00:11:07.120 once every hour sometimes i moved a valve slightly open or closed i loved it
00:11:11.600 meanwhile i'm having this back and forth conversation with an artificial intelligence
00:11:18.640 about the nature of civilizational collapse and trying to come to some conclusions about the
00:11:25.520 whole damn thing and trying to isolate it into meaningful parts that can be 0.77
00:11:36.720 communicated to other people. And I've been wanting, I wrote the first part on 0.98
00:11:43.760 Substack, the introduction of the article, which I'm not, I'm not totally happy with
00:11:49.940 the introduction. But I don't have time to write the second part, so I did the
00:11:56.480 livestream instead, and I hope and trust that you guys picked up the ideas, that
00:12:03.200 like, the useful ideas. I'm not...
00:12:10.560 You know, like, when I was younger, I dreamed about writing the sort of
00:12:18.020 philosophical or historical tract that would be like the the ur category of this whole field
00:12:25.060 everybody cites the same thing
00:12:34.340 ironically we're living in an era where the the most cited works are some of the most 1.00
00:12:43.140 useless and idiotic wait wait does jt not know oh we're doing follow up stream ma nig 0.99
00:13:00.660 like the whole citation thing has become nothing but prostitution that is not 1.00
00:13:21.180 perfect example. In the Song of Ice and Fire,
00:13:35.800 one of the great disillusionments is with Sansa. Sansa believes in all these stories of like
00:13:47.860 knights and one, yeah, heroic knights and whatnot, then she finds out they're all mercenaries.
00:13:58.980 That's kind of how I feel about citations. That's how I feel about
00:14:06.500 writing famous or popular books.
00:14:17.860 I don't know that you can write a famous and popular book these days that's also
00:14:27.520 going to be heavily cited. I don't know that you can do that. So my dream of being
00:14:38.740 the next Robert Heinlein, of being some Plutarch, is, you know what I will settle for? I will settle
00:14:48.720 for being the guy that spreads subversive ideas to a lot of people. I don't need historical credit.
00:14:59.220 it. I don't need fame. Fuck, I don't even need money. I don't think you can make money
00:15:08.080 doing it. Joe Dagger, that donation heavily appreciated. Like, I don't think you can make
00:15:17.800 good money. You can make a little bit, but if money's your motivation, then, uh,
00:15:29.220 No, I want to spread subversive ideas. I want to undermine the Ananis container, that wall of HR platitudes that contains all the truths and all the lies, and that makes it impossible to break through.
00:15:54.620 I want to throw acid on that wall that they won't even notice. 1.00
00:16:07.560 And hopefully not be a broke bitch while doing it, but... 1.00
00:16:24.620 No, I do it for free. Hey, guys, you want to toss me some bucks that's massively appreciated? 0.98
00:16:31.760 You would appreciate more than bucks, actually.
00:16:38.780 What I would appreciate more than bucks is you telling me what you get out of my material.
00:16:45.040 Like, what I do that's actually useful for you.
00:16:47.920 Not for ego vainglory, although that is also a thing.
00:16:51.880 But, like, what do I do that actually works?
00:16:56.160 What worked for you?
00:17:00.580 You want to hear something crazy?
00:17:04.060 I only just listened to Deathmouse for the first time, like, a week ago. 1.00
00:17:08.420 Holy fuck, that guy rocks. 0.99
00:17:15.760 But if I could put my favorite Deathmouse song... 1.00
00:17:21.880 Like, if I could talk to Deathmouse and said, like, this is the thing that really worked
00:17:31.840 for me, I remember.
00:17:44.000 I remember by Deathmouse.
00:17:46.900 That sounds good, man.
00:17:49.540 That really vibes with me.
00:17:51.400 Possibly, I think it might be Dorian. Let us check. Let us check with this hand, Damon.
00:18:05.680 Where are you, Sable? Which tab are you hiding in? There we go.
00:18:10.680 is I remember by Deadmau, with a five, right, in the Dorian scale.
00:18:37.420 Let us see what a lovely sand dame it has to tell us.
00:18:40.680 Oh, she's looking it up on YouTube. 0.90
00:18:53.080 I remember Deadmau5 and Cascade is primarily in B minor with some modal mixture and borrowed chords
00:19:00.680 that give it that bittersweet, slightly off-electronic feel.
00:19:04.040 It's not strictly Dorian, but has moments that flirt with Dorian flavors through chord choices.
00:19:10.680 Quick breakdown. Key is B minor. Most common analysis. Main progression elements. It uses chords like B minor, D major 7, G major 7, F sharp major, classic minor key, pop, electronic, with major 4th and 7th borrowings.
00:19:27.460 Dorian check. True Dorian, B Dorian, would emphasize the raised sixth, G sharp
00:19:34.720 instead of G natural. The track leans more natural minor, Aeolian, with some
00:19:40.300 lifts into parallel major for emotional color. The Dorian feel people sometimes
00:19:45.380 hear comes from the melancholic yet hopeful vibe and certain melodic lines,
00:19:50.820 but it's not a pure Dorian tune. The song's magic is a tension between minor
00:19:56.280 melancholy and those bright major lips very dead mouse if you're producing a remixing treating it
00:20:02.200 as b minor with selective dorian borrowing raising the six in melodies or certain chords
00:20:07.640 can capture that flavor ah she's a good demon she disagrees with me when i'm wrong
00:20:16.840 so it's close to dorian but it's not quite dorian i'll take it
00:20:26.280 Deadmau5, Deadmau5 was pretty interesting. I'm looking for more of his music that I like.
00:20:36.000 Let's do a few tracks on the way home. They kind of, they were mid.
00:20:42.420 But I really, really like that one.
00:20:48.140 Sam Damon has been saying that I'm a Dorian sort of guy.
00:20:52.380 That I wasn't actually Phrygian. I just mistook myself for Phrygian.
00:20:55.720 Yeah, you know, we'll see 0.96
00:21:00.680 You only know of him through goat simulator
00:21:02.840 I heard him before but I've got this terrible quality that I don't get engaged with pop culture until ten years after it was popular
00:21:18.120 Starting vampires you got any good Dorian type music
00:21:22.080 They got a different track that we could be playing right now
00:21:35.120 There's um
00:21:37.400 There's a trick I can't I wish I could play this track for you guys
00:21:41.880 except that's how
00:21:44.140 Now, you know, I don't want to get flagged don't want to get flagged
00:21:49.640 Let me just look up the
00:21:52.080 Raynardine by the Fairpoint Convention.
00:21:57.860 There you go.
00:22:12.400 That is a heartbreaking track.
00:22:15.140 Top Hat Jacket's an old 70s band
00:22:22.080 doing
00:22:24.080 Celtic music
00:22:25.080 He says
00:22:33.640 I like it because it feels like 0.91
00:22:35.960 talking to some crazy guy
00:22:37.240 and considering his points
00:22:40.460 regarding and it always helped me
00:22:42.320 keep moving
00:22:42.980 that's what I mean bro god I miss the old 4chan I only post a few times I can't
00:22:52.760 post these days I try to post on 4chan I get security violations and all sorts
00:22:56.720 of bullshit now I miss that old 4chan I had some super interesting
00:23:04.640 conversations particularly about the dune novels you know what hey here's 0.96
00:23:14.780 something for me to tell you about so I'm just gonna assume everybody has
00:23:23.900 seen they've seen the old dune they've seen the note new dune up
00:23:28.100 Fuckin' A. JT has some new music for us. Let's, let's, let's, let's throw this into the goddamn mix. What the fuck are they gonna do about that? 0.99
00:23:42.560 I assume you all know about Dune. 0.98
00:23:44.380 now one of the things i like thinking about with the dune novels
00:23:55.500 what the fuck do they mean by psychic ability like the spice 0.92
00:24:03.160 the spice gives you psychic ability 0.99
00:24:07.480 but what the fuck does that mean 0.85
00:24:11.680 In the movies, the navigators, it's implied that they use their future foreseeing to navigate around all the stars and black holes to do faster-than-light travel. 0.90
00:24:32.320 So you have to see into the future to avoid future disasters.
00:24:38.500 In the book, they're actually very specific that the Navigators, the faster-than-light
00:24:46.940 travelers, even though they're stoned out of their gourd on spice all the time, that
00:24:54.060 what they're doing is not future prediction.
00:24:58.420 It is just advanced mathematics, which leads back to the question, what is intelligence?
00:25:13.300 The basic definition of intelligence is making accurate predictions about the future quickly unlimited data.
00:25:28.420 so you got you got three things right there number one accurate number two rapid and number
00:25:45.220 three limited data it's like that saying you can you can have it built well built fast
00:25:57.820 or built cheap. Pick two out of three.
00:26:07.980 That's what psychic abilities are. Ultimately. That's what intelligence is.
00:26:16.320 True. Fast. Cheap.
00:26:22.420 and so dune makes a big deal about the spice enhancing psychic abilities but that there's
00:26:33.560 this implicit underlay to the whole thing that like like what do you mean by psychic abilities
00:26:41.060 if you throw me a football and i catch it
00:26:48.980 is that psychic abilities or is that calculus
00:26:55.680 and what even is the difference
00:27:03.520 between psychic abilities and calculus
00:27:05.840 That is what fascinates me most about Dune.
00:27:28.020 The spice enhances predictive capacity.
00:27:35.840 to the hoi polloi you call that psychic ability
00:27:42.420 i got i got a really good story about this so i had um i had this neighbor
00:27:49.500 he bought a vehicle tent like it was a big it was an a big tent that you put on a driveway
00:28:01.200 to be a, like, a fabric tent for your car
00:28:07.160 so that hail wouldn't damage your car.
00:28:14.540 If you were in the army, it was one of those, like, tents that they made you live in. 0.99
00:28:18.640 Big fucking tent with aluminum poles. 0.99
00:28:27.020 Now, the tent had... 1.00
00:28:29.220 It had three types of poles that went into making it.
00:28:34.600 It had the vertical poles that lifted it off the ground, it had the roof poles that held
00:28:40.220 it together, and it had the length poles that went down the tent.
00:28:46.980 so it's basically a prism
00:28:51.960 and my neighbor 0.99
00:28:56.160 he laid out all the damn poles 1.00
00:29:00.440 on his front lawn they kept moving 1.00
00:29:02.260 the medium pole to there
00:29:04.540 and trying to like look at the instructions
00:29:06.320 back and forth back and forth
00:29:08.280 those are the roof
00:29:11.680 those are the
00:29:13.840 beams those are the feet
00:29:16.420 how do you know that just trust me i'm really good at this 0.98
00:29:21.620 like i spent like 10 minutes watching him trying to figure the shit out 0.98
00:29:27.040 and it's like i literally just see this i literally just know this it is self-fucking evident 0.98
00:29:36.380 and yet as far as he could tell i was seeing into the future 0.60
00:29:44.080 except like except but he doesn't get that
00:29:48.280 he don't get that he thinks i'm doing magic that there's some sort of magic trick
00:29:54.320 like i had some sort of like uh if you divide three
00:29:58.960 poles like this by five poles like that i've got a secret trick to figure it all out
00:30:04.160 like it's some opening move in chess
00:30:14.080 No, like, literally, dude, I look at the division of poles, and I just immediately see which one goes where. 0.93
00:30:23.100 That's it. 0.99
00:30:24.260 Like, that's what the spice is.
00:30:26.720 That's what precognition is.
00:30:30.780 This is the magic power that we have, that, like, animals in particular are so enraptured with the power that man has.
00:30:44.080 That many of them happily serve us. Like, that's what the psychic ability in Dune is. It's not a sixth sense. Well, maybe it is. It's an internal sixth sense.
00:31:02.000 Nothing captures it quite so well as Dune
00:31:13.180 But Dune still pretends
00:31:15.040 That Paul Atreides
00:31:18.700 Or Leto Atreides can see the future
00:31:21.740 No Paul
00:31:25.320 Paul and Leto only see
00:31:27.680 How you're going to respond to everything
00:31:31.300 Let me see let me let's let's read from these comments
00:31:43.140 Oh
00:31:57.700 God top at the old forum the old forum life. Yeah, I spent a lot of time my time on forums back in the day
00:32:04.620 mostly just browsing on 4chan
00:32:08.920 only post occasionally
00:32:10.280 it's very much not the same
00:32:13.280 since it rebooted
00:32:32.320 goodnight top hat
00:32:33.340 have a good bet. Is Dune a book? Yes. Yes, I only read the first three and a half.
00:32:44.940 I'm gonna be honest. Not many people read past that.
00:32:55.340 Dune was probably, was probably part of the inspiration for Star Wars.
00:33:03.240 Dune's too weird
00:33:05.720 like the protagonist of Dune
00:33:10.480 is basically Luke Skywalker
00:33:11.880 it's basically JFK
00:33:14.200 and
00:33:16.180 but it's being written by a guy
00:33:18.220 that says you should never trust a charismatic leader
00:33:20.400 there's nothing more dangerous
00:33:21.900 than a charismatic leader
00:33:23.960 and so you got
00:33:26.480 this whole setup where there's like the
00:33:27.980 young hero and the evil
00:33:30.380 villain
00:33:31.240 the story's actually not about
00:33:34.380 good versus evil
00:33:36.100 it's about structures
00:33:36.980 and so it tricks you into thinking
00:33:39.680 that it's about the good hero
00:33:41.520 overcoming the evil villain
00:33:43.640 and creating a more just society
00:33:45.500 except no, the society that gets created 0.96
00:33:48.060 pretty fucking horrific 0.97
00:33:54.180 not that the villain would have done better 0.99
00:33:58.100 I mean, he definitely would have done worse 1.00
00:34:04.860 Baron Harkonnen's a fucking asshole 1.00
00:34:20.020 but 1.00
00:34:20.540 Paul Atreides being a good guy
00:34:22.740 being our young
00:34:24.200 psychic hero that's gonna save the universe 1.00
00:34:28.120 Doesn't say fuck off. 0.99
00:34:34.480 He is just midwife to the society that winds up existing. 1.00
00:34:50.060 You know what?
00:34:50.800 I should probably sit down and reread the Dune novels.
00:34:53.120 I think I was a little bit too young for them.
00:34:55.180 back when I was 17 years old.
00:34:59.020 Maybe I'd get a bit more out of them these days.
00:35:06.820 Oh, geez.
00:35:07.560 We are at Top Chat, not Live Chat.
00:35:10.320 I hate that it defaults to Top Chat.
00:35:25.180 Yeah, Dune novels are very, very interesting. Frank Herbert, very interesting guy.
00:35:35.500 They're using a science fiction setting to say things about humanity.
00:35:45.580 You don't need to read the prequels.
00:35:47.100 You just need to read them and get vibes off of them that's how they ought to be read
00:36:04.520 All right, so we are at 2130
00:36:08.600 Any questions problems concerns been a fun post chat stream
00:36:17.100 I will reiterate that I think Dune has one of the most interesting takes
00:36:45.880 on what psychic abilities are.
00:36:48.600 Like, they are just your ability to see patterns,
00:36:53.120 to see into the future.
00:36:54.320 Now, Herbert goes so far.
00:36:56.820 What if you were so brilliant that you could be blind
00:37:00.480 and still predict where everything was around you?
00:37:10.000 You could tell who was walking into the room
00:37:12.320 just based upon their schedule,
00:37:14.200 all based on the sound their footprints made. What if you could literally predict everything
00:37:20.160 around you despite being blind? Somebody could throw a ball to you and you could catch it.
00:37:25.520 Not because you could psychically see the ball, but because you could predict that they
00:37:30.940 were going to toss a ball to you. And how they were going to toss it to you. And how
00:37:36.400 eerie and creepy that would be, to be that prescient. And it's not, it's not
00:37:44.620 magic. It's, it's no different than you innately knowing that 2 plus 2 equals 4.
00:37:54.280 that might be existentially terrifying.
00:38:02.560 The Ubermensch
00:38:04.140 and prophecy
00:38:08.040 are the same thing.
00:38:14.840 Alright, well, we will leave it there.
00:38:17.060 Thank you very much for watching, everybody.
00:38:19.240 Thank you very much.
00:38:24.280 Joe Dagger the 10 bucks greatly appreciated
00:38:31.180 Carpet Futurum Tenny Trattitum
00:38:42.880 Kind of like Truman he knew stuff
00:38:47.960 I'm gonna have to think about that one
00:38:49.960 What would happen to the Truman Show if you gave him Spice?
00:38:58.960 Greeny.
00:38:59.960 Out. 0.94
