In this episode, I speak with a local sheriff about gun control in the wake of the recent mass shooting in Parkland, Florida. Sheriff Scott Israel talks about his views on gun control and what he thinks about the FBI's handling of the situation.
00:00:02.000So obviously this is a really tough tragedy to deal with, but I just wanted to talk to you about your perspective from a sheriff's standpoint with gun control and ask you how much of your call for gun control is rooted in your actual want for gun control as a sheriff and how much is driven by your own political ideology as a registered Democrat.
00:00:21.000I don't have any button political ideologies.
00:00:24.000I just do what's right for the community.
00:00:26.000I don't worry about doing things to get re-elected or elected.
00:00:30.000I just do what is right and safe for the people who want to go in the first place.
00:00:40.000There's more than one aspect, more than one discipline and dimension that's going to have to come into place for us to be a safe society.
00:00:47.000We have to have Baker Act rules extended.
00:00:51.000Police officers need to be able to take people into custody who post certain things for evaluation.
00:00:58.000And it's just a whole plethora of things.
00:01:01.000Why do you think there's not a lot of emphasis in the community being placed on the FBI dropping the ball?
00:01:06.000Because I'm finding that a lot of the rhetoric, especially among community members, is very anti-Trump when really I think that law enforcement should be holding the FBI more accountable.
