Will McCaskill joins me to discuss the fall of the Foundation for Effective Altruism (FETX) and its impact on the effective altruism movement. Will is an associate professor in philosophy and a research fellow at the Global Priorities Institute at Oxford University, and the co-founder of three non-profits based on Ea principles. He is also the author of several books, including "Do Good Better: Effective altruism in a Radical New Way to Make a Difference" and "What We Owe the Future: What we owe the Future." In this episode, we discuss the impact of the FETX collapse on the EA community, the legacy of Sam Bankman Freed and the implosion of the movement, and potential problems with EA long-termism. We also discuss a brief sidebar discussion on Ai Risk, and discuss the effects of the collapse on Will personally, and other topics, on his views on EA and the movement as a whole.
