00:00:00.000The infamous Premier of Ontario, Doug Ford, has once again betrayed the Federal Conservative Party.
00:00:05.520Now, if you remember, Doug Ford made waves last year after he publicly criticized Paulie Evans' team in the lead-up to the Federal election.
00:00:12.960On top of that, Doug Ford was also seen eating dinner with Mark Carney before the election was even over.
00:00:17.760Despite Paulie Evans' team's best efforts to mend the bridge, Doug Ford will not be attending the Conservative Convention in Calgary.
00:00:40.260People aren't, you know, too concerned in particular delegates about that he's going to pass this leadership review.
00:00:45.100But what level of support is he going to get from delegates in Calgary?
00:00:49.260What are your thoughts on that and where do we think he's going to land?
00:00:52.240You know, it's a tough one when talking about numbers.
00:00:54.020I am actually here in Calgary right now and I will be at the convention centre with CTV shortly to kind of cover some of the live footage.
00:01:00.760And one of the things that we're hearing from a lot of people is what is that number going to be like on the floor?
00:01:05.240Now, my guess is that it's going to have to be resoundingly high.
00:01:08.900And I'm talking above 80% for there to be this really big rah-rah moment of everyone supports Pierre Paulie.
00:01:16.780What it's really going to look like is to be determined.
00:01:19.780I don't see anyone that is kind of standing in the shadows ready to take over.
00:01:24.700And I think despite all of the errors and mistakes he might have made along the way, he did still bring a large new number of voters into the base.
00:01:32.260So it'll be interesting to see how the Conservative base from across Canada comparing Calgary responds to that with how they vote.
00:01:38.600And of course, I'm stating the obvious when I say that Paulieff is going to pass the leadership review with flying colours.
00:01:44.680I hate to make predictions, but I'm guessing around 80%.
00:01:47.560And that's an educated guess based on polls.
00:01:50.280Now I'm going to show you the part where CTV acknowledges Doug Ford's betrayal.
00:01:53.860Before we get into this, I hate to remind you, but I'm being heavily censored on YouTube.
00:01:58.200If you see this part of the video, let me know in the comment section.
00:02:01.160Let me know what city you're coming from.
00:02:02.840Give me a quick like and make sure you're still subscribed.
00:02:05.220Right. It'll be very interesting indeed.
00:02:07.300And, you know, and we touched on, I touched on with Jeremy Scharnel earlier too, the delegation from Ontario that's not there.
00:02:12.820Because the PC Progressive Conservatives, right, are having their own convention this weekend too.
00:02:17.520That helped Pierre too as well over the course of, you know, over the course of the weekend?
00:02:21.700Listen, I don't think there's any secret to kind of the love lost between the provincial Ontario Conservatives and the federal Conservatives.
00:02:28.640They're a very different party, very different leaders.
00:02:30.880And call me crazy, but I feel like there might be a little bit of backroom politics around the timing of both conventions at the same time.
00:02:39.200So I think there might be a bit of a loss for Pierre on the Ontario front.
00:02:43.780But again, a lot of his base comes from outside of Ontario.
00:02:46.700So I don't think it's going to be the biggest loss for him.
00:02:49.020But it is, it shouldn't go unnoticed that both conventions are happening at the same time.
00:02:52.840Because generally speaking, you don't do that.
00:02:54.580Yeah, exactly. I think it's the rare part about this time around.
00:02:57.060I want to ask you, Sharon, too, as well, you know, this message in the speech that we are going to hear, he's going to appeal to his base, clearly in the delegates that are there.
00:03:04.400But this wider issue that we have of the more appeal that he needs to have, where he trails Mark Carney so clearly in the polls as preferred prime minister.
00:03:12.200Are you expecting to hear more of that?
00:03:13.740Or what does he have to do in order to try to increase some of those numbers?
00:03:18.500Well, the interesting thing here is that his increase in his numbers has come from a lot of how his tone and tenor is and some of the base that he's pulled in.
00:03:26.020He hasn't pulled from any of the liberal base.
00:03:28.920He has pulled from the more far right, I would say, People's Party type of base.
00:03:33.620So I would think that for the sake of him looking prime ministerial or ready to be prime ministerial, he is going to have to have more of a conciliary tone.
00:03:41.780And we did see that when he responded to the prime minister's speech in Davos.
00:03:46.040So whether or not his speech is going to be more balanced, more statesly, I'm not sure he's going to be there.
00:03:52.620He tends to default back to the attack moment.
00:03:55.440So I think we're going to have to wait and see his remarks tonight to see how that goes.
00:03:58.340Now, I'm not sure exactly what's going on here, but it's becoming pretty clear that Doug Ford has some problem with pure Polyev.
00:04:04.440Either he feels the federal conservative party is too far to the right and will hurt his election chances, or Doug Ford secretly wants to be the leader of the conservative party.
00:04:13.400The funny thing is that while Ford is pretty good at winning elections in Ontario, credit where it's due, he's never going to win a federal election.
00:04:20.080He wouldn't even win the leadership race for the conservative party.
