Mark Slapinski

00:00:00.000 the cbc recently tried to interview a member of the conservative party and it didn't go too well

00:00:04.640 for cbc to say the very least but something happened towards the end that flipped the whole

00:00:09.440 script now to the untrained viewer these interviews between state-funded journalists and politicians

00:00:15.440 they look like a friendly conversation however it's nothing of the sort and it's more akin to a

00:00:21.040 boxing match let me quickly explain if you watch closely both sides are actually fighting each

00:00:25.440 other to gain the upper hand these journalists are usually trying to push a certain narrative

00:00:30.080 whereas politicians especially the conservative ones are just trying to get their points across

00:00:34.640 on one side of the ring we have david cochran a seasoned journalist with almost 30 years of

00:00:38.480 experience defending liberals on the other side we have andrew shear an experienced politician with

00:00:42.880 20 years experience fighting for conservative values now like most of these interviews it

00:00:46.880 starts off rather friendly but as you watch things don't go so well for david cochran here's round one

00:00:53.520 the conservatives have been holding up legislation in committee over concerns they have

00:00:57.120 and share with religious groups that the bill could criminalize some religious texts and worship but

00:01:01.680 with a recent cooperative attitude from the conservatives well what progress can be made

00:01:05.440 and could this collaboration ultimately avoid a spring election we've got opposition house leader

00:01:09.600 andrew shear here with me now in the studio uh mr shear good good to see you again i mean what what

00:01:14.160 is your reaction to what sean frazier had to say because when the justice committee meeting got cancelled

00:01:17.520 yesterday it was billed as a sign of progress where are things well it's just a completely false

00:01:22.480 characterization for sean frazier to say that it's liberals who have chosen to prioritize a bill

00:01:28.080 that is divisive that has divided canadians and divided parliamentarians as well we proposed 19

00:01:34.320 times in the fall to park c9 so that we could deal with bail reform that's something that canadians

00:01:39.600 feel very strongly about we don't believe the government's solution to bail reform goes far enough

00:01:44.160 but we said well at least it doesn't do any further harm let's pass that very quickly it's the government

00:01:48.400 that chose to keep c9 same is true with with their other crime legislation it's liberals who are

00:01:53.520 choosing to use c9 as an obstruction measure against their own legislation my understanding

00:01:58.720 though from what i heard yesterday uh was that maybe this gone to negotiations perhaps with the

00:02:02.960 house leaders the justice minister or his proxies and the the critics on this portfolio and that maybe

00:02:08.240 some progress was being made and the the block would have been in on this too because you're kind of

00:02:12.000 on opposite sides with them a bit on this is that in fact the case are you moving towards something that

00:02:17.440 can go to committee maybe as soon as tomorrow well it's already at committee but maybe what i would

00:02:21.120 say is that we are engaged in good faith conversations about what aspects of c9 are are supportable

00:02:27.760 protecting access to places of worship of all faiths protecting sites that are connected to

00:02:34.400 faith-based groups wide support for that we don't believe anybody should be harassed or intimidated

00:02:39.680 on their on their way to a temple a synagogue a mosque or of course a church so if there's areas where

00:02:46.400 all the parties agree on and there's more contentious issues that are blocking that

00:02:51.760 maybe we should focus on the common ground and get that passed quickly now notice how cochrane starts

00:02:55.680 off by pushing a false liberal narrative however andrew sure is having none of that he stays calm and

00:03:01.440 he pushes back with cold hard facts what's really going on is that the liberal party they want to engage

00:03:07.200 in a modern day bible ban but this is where it gets interesting despite all the dirty tricks and the 0.98

00:03:12.240 cheap shots that the liberals throw at the conservative party the conservatives are actually

00:03:16.240 willing to work with the liberals right now now there's a time for fighting and i'm sure you

00:03:21.200 understand that but there is a time for taking the gloves off and cooperate so i actually like this

00:03:26.240 position that the conservatives are taking right now back to the interview sheer is still coming out

00:03:30.000 as the clear winner however cochrane he's an experienced fighter and he's not done yet he's got a

00:03:35.200 few dirty tricks up his sleeve before i show you round two i want to remind you i'm being heavily

00:03:39.360 censored on youtube if you see this part of the video let me know in the comment section tell me

00:03:43.840 what city you're coming from give me a quick like make sure you're still subscribed all right here's

00:03:48.960 round two so you're talking about splitting the bill and i appreciate yes it's that committee i made

00:03:52.960 a compromise that could go to committee by tomorrow are we close to that or are you insisting on the

00:03:57.840 contentious bits being taken out and put into maybe a separate piece of legislation well at the risk of

00:04:02.960 uh of of compromising good faith conversations what i would say is that we've made our our position very

00:04:08.880 clear there are elements of the bill that are not offensive uh to most canadians there are elements

00:04:13.360 of the bill that do not empower government to censor religious texts or religious speech uh if if the

00:04:18.880 government has a willingness to work on that common ground we would uh take that in good faith but are

00:04:24.320 are we close to seeing something on this by tomorrow because i appreciate the contentious issues

00:04:28.720 and you have argued that this will criminalize certain religious scriptures and texts the bloc believes

00:04:33.520 that the religious exemption is being used as a shield against hate speech and there's some

00:04:38.000 challenges in reconciling those uh do you think we will see some kind of a compromise put to

00:04:42.800 committee tomorrow or is it too soon to know well first i would say it's not just conservatives saying

00:04:47.040 that uh the liberal minister himself admitted that this would criminalize uh aspects of of those uh

00:04:52.480 faith-based texts um and there are existing when did he admit he came to committee and he said

00:04:58.000 absolutely that mark miller said that parts of the bible would be criminal because mark miller's saying

00:05:02.240 on social media that is not like i can share you the clip where he was at committee and he said

00:05:06.320 absolutely that that's that that would be captured those are his words i mean i believe that was

00:05:10.160 pretty well disseminated when he said it um and what i would say is there's lots of laws existing

00:05:14.560 on the books right now that the that that aren't being used by the government to prosecute hate

00:05:20.000 speech and uh the massive rise and things like anti-semitism that we've seen where uh you know streets

00:05:25.920 are taken over for days and days at a time in some cases and bricks thrown through daycares in fact shot

00:05:30.800 up uh there are lots of laws existing on the books that are not being used that could go into that we

00:05:35.040 don't believe that the answer is to add new laws that that that if i take the mark miller's own

00:05:40.720 words the intention would be to make uh some passages of religious texts illegal now what i

00:05:44.640 will say in terms of timelines it's hard for me to to assess the the pace of that but i will say that

00:05:50.800 we've been uh you know that we have been having good faith conversations to to see if there's a way to

00:05:55.920 get to prevent the liberals from using c9 to block other pieces of legislation that we would say hey if

00:06:02.480 if this improves the the judicial system let's let's let's look for results now admittedly round

00:06:07.840 two was rather uneventful the host didn't lie about the conservatives and he didn't take any cheap

00:06:13.440 shots at sure now you're probably thinking about clicking off however i would highly recommend

00:06:18.160 against that because i'm going to show you the best part right here this is the part of the interview

00:06:22.080 with david cochran tries spreading an inaccurate narrative once again but he gets immediately shot

00:06:26.960 down by andrew sure let's check it out here's round three this level of cooperation that you're

00:06:32.400 offering because it was very different before the break um you know for whatever reasons is it just

00:06:36.720 to avoid an election the public opinion polling would suggest that they are ahead by a small amount

00:06:42.000 or a large amount the gap on leadership is quite large if you look at favorability ratings and all

00:06:47.280 these sorts of things and a lot of the analysis and even talk from people in your caucuses we don't

00:06:52.080 want an election we're worried about an election so let's not give them an excuse to call an election by

00:06:56.240 being obstructionist in parliament and this is more self-defense and avoiding self-harm than it

00:07:00.800 is cooperation well first of all we make decisions based on principle not but not politics and secondly

00:07:05.600 i would say i don't agree with the characterization if you look at since the election we we we signaled

00:07:11.280 right up front we said look after 10 years of liberal policies carbon taxes inflationary deficits soft

00:07:16.240 on crime policies that have drastically made our country less safe and more dependent on the u.s economy

00:07:22.880 we need to get to the results phase in in the in the spring we passed bill c5 that's what mark

00:07:28.800 carney claimed that would allow him to build all kinds of new major projects they haven't been able

00:07:33.280 to get a single new project through that office but we facilitate the passage of that bill in the fall

00:07:37.760 we tried 19 times to park c9 to deal with bail reform liberals only agreed on the 20th time so if

00:07:43.760 you look back at the last few months we are consistently saying where a bill a liberal bill does no further harm

00:07:49.600 where they steal one of our ideas or where mark carney is claiming that this will get the results

00:07:54.080 that that canadians expect we're saying okay well we will let that pass and the canadians can judge

00:07:58.320 him on the results so it's not about a spring election at all nothing you're not worried about

00:08:01.280 an election a little bit we were we were working in good faith on legislation since the last election

00:08:05.920 and uh it's been very consistent with what my leader pierre poly have said to the prime minister right

00:08:09.920 after the election it's consistent with the letter that he wrote the prime minister when the house of

00:08:13.600 commons returned we've identified areas where with with a few if they accept a few compromises to

00:08:19.760 build in better protections for taxpayers and more protection for on on transparency and

00:08:24.240 accountability then we would allow for a path for for that legislation to pass so we've been very

00:08:28.480 consistent since the last election on this now in my opinion sheer is a true master of his craft

00:08:33.120 he's one of the best not quite as good as pauliev but he's still good when the liberal media tries

00:08:38.560 to slander him and lie about him he pushes back with cold hard facts and he wins every single time

00:08:44.800 but of course you might have a different opinion on that what do you think happened who do you think

00:08:49.760 was the winner in this fight let me know in the comment section once again thanks for tuning in

00:08:54.160 i love all of you we're gonna win big talk to you soon patriots
