Progressive conservatives in Newfoundland and Labrador have a majority government, and people are celebrating it like it's some huge conservative victory. But did anyone actually read their platform? Because I did, and it is one of the most progressive, bureaucratic, big government documents I've ever seen coming from a party calling itself conservative.

00:00:00.000 You know what's funny? Last night, the progressive conservatives in Newfoundland and Labrador
00:00:04.360 won a majority government. And of course, people on X are celebrating it like it's some
00:00:09.960 huge conservative victory. Cardi's honeymoon is over, guys. But did anyone actually read
00:00:16.520 their platform? Because I did. And it is one of the most progressive bureaucratic big government
00:00:21.160 documents I've ever seen coming from a party calling itself conservative. Right at the start,
00:00:25.980 They talk about equity and inclusion. Their own platform says, we will inform decisions with
00:00:30.760 gender-based plus analysis. That is the same identity framework used by the liberals and the
00:00:35.460 NDP. It means every policy gets filtered through race, gender, and sexuality instead of cost,
00:00:40.400 freedom, or merit. That's not conservative. That's bureaucracy pretending to be compassionate.
00:00:45.000 Then they promise to fix the liberals pay equity law and replace it with new legislation
00:00:48.860 for equal pay for work of equal value. That's not fairness. That's wage control. It means
00:00:53.720 bureaucrats deciding what every job is worth. That's central planning, pure NDP policy dressed
00:00:58.340 up in blue. Then they create a new advocate for persons with disabilities. Sounds fine until you 0.99
00:01:03.820 realize it's another taxpayer-funded office. Hundreds of thousands of dollars every single
00:01:08.140 year lobbying the same government that funds it. Now right below that, they promise multi-year
00:01:12.860 core operational funding for community groups. Translation, permanent funding for activist
00:01:17.240 organizations. Once they depend on government money, they'll never speak against it. Now
00:01:21.940 child care. They support the $10 a day daycare plan, the exact same liberal program, but they
00:01:27.540 admit it's unaffordable and inaccessible. Their fix? Let's create an advisory panel,
00:01:32.300 add daycare spaces, give pensions, and paid sick leave to daycare workers. So instead of
00:01:37.340 ending a failing program, they're expanding it. That's not conservatism, that's managing socialism.
00:01:42.520 Oh, and this is a good one. And then on climate, they call the Paris Accord unrealistic,
00:01:46.980 but then they double down by promising a new climate change action plan to chase
00:01:50.860 net zero anyway. So they're not rejecting the agenda. They're just rebranding it. That's not
00:01:56.100 conservative environmental policy. That's green politics in a blue folder. Then comes the spending.
00:02:01.220 A rules secretariat and cabinet, a police oversight board, an advocate for disabilities,
00:02:06.660 and multi-year funding for community groups on top of it. That is not small government. That is
00:02:11.420 growth disguised as reform. And it gets worse. Every project over $500,000 must include community
00:02:17.640 benefits agreements with targets for women, gender diverse individuals, and indigenous workers,
00:02:22.120 plus a 10% appearance quota. That is not merit-based hiring. That is social engineering
00:02:27.880 in public contracts. They also promise poverty reduction and prevention strategy,
00:02:33.260 which means they expand benefit eligibility and want to negotiate national pharmacare in Ottawa.
00:02:38.880 That's not reforming welfare. That's helping the liberals expand it. And they're still committed
00:02:43.140 to under it. The UN Declaration of Rights of Indigenous Peoples, which overlap Indigenous
00:02:48.460 and federal law and hands more power to unelected international bodies, that is not conservatism.
00:02:53.980 That's globalism in province form. So let's be honest, this platform isn't conservative.
