00:01:12.500 If you love judging people, it's a you problem.
00:01:15.320 It's not a them problem.
00:01:17.620 It's like once you take the beam out, you become incredibly not concerned with the moats, dude.
00:01:22.660 It's like sucking on your thumb.
00:01:24.440 To point out that, like, oh, yeah, other people are. 0.51
00:01:27.400 It says, when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees saying, depart from me, for I'm a sinful man. 0.93
00:01:34.200 The Christian business that we have an example of is closed.
00:01:37.740 It's shut down.
00:01:39.040 In the NLT, this one says, love keeps no record of being wrong.
00:01:43.560 And this is why I hate the victimhood mindset, dude.
00:01:46.000 It's incredibly destructive.
00:01:48.280 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cashew your pearls before swine,
00:01:52.820 lest they trample them under their feet and turn again and rip you.
00:01:56.700 So now we do have to do some judging. 0.99
00:01:58.740 Do not go around correcting fool. 0.97
00:02:01.100 Whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, 0.99
00:02:04.820 when you depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.
00:02:10.040 You can't stick around and win debates with everybody.
00:02:13.300 And if people don't want it, you got to move on, man.
00:02:16.300 welcome back to another episode of straight bible sermon on the mount series episode 31
00:02:26.260 where we tell you we start at 10 o'clock and then we really start at 11 because we work with
00:02:29.800 puerto ricans so this week we're in uh we're in matthew chapter 7 uh verses 3 through 5 is what
00:02:38.260 we're really going to key in on uh we left off in isaiah 6 last week we were keying in on this idea
00:02:43.480 that like the closer you get to god the more and more you get like woe is me not woe is everybody
00:02:49.260 else remember we left off on isaiah 6 so we'll recap on that a couple of things in the chat we
00:02:54.140 can address real quick though because i've been watching the chat for like an hour otis moved to
00:02:58.980 the panhandle of florida pensacola or one of those towns up there i forget exactly which town
00:03:04.460 uh but we've been in touch so he'll pop in and get back on the show from time to time he wrote
00:03:09.260 another book so everybody in the chat should go on amazon uh and check out his second book remember
00:03:15.280 we had him on yeah first yeah he's already knocked out his second book so everybody can go look that
00:03:19.200 up um we are thinking about getting nancy into the stray bible mix that question came up um just so
00:03:26.140 that she can help us start on time i think it's reasonable um the g the uh getting raven a big
00:03:32.660 wheels jeep i like that okay there's been a lot going on in the chat while you've been like playing
00:03:37.080 games over there working working you're doing great it's just fun to have a good time okay so
00:03:41.560 we're in Matthew 7 verses 3 through 5 it says this and why beholdest thou the moat that is in
00:03:50.000 thy brother's eye right we talked about the moat is like a sliver off of a big piece of timber
00:03:54.940 off of a big piece of lumber but consider not the beam that is in your own eye so the sliver
00:04:00.560 off of the beam that's the moat or how will you say to your brother let me pull out the moat out
00:04:06.880 of your eye and behold, a beam is in your own eye. Like somehow I'm going to fix you. You hypocrite
00:04:14.180 first cast out the beam out of your own eye, then shall thou see clearly to cast out the moat out of 1.00
00:04:20.240 thy brother's eye. And where we left off is Isaiah six. So we're just going to recap on that real
00:04:24.540 quick. Uh, where there's this, it's just this concept that there's this thing that's causing
00:04:30.760 you to find moats in people's eyes. And it's the beam that's in your eye. Jesus doesn't allow room
00:04:36.420 for maybe you don't have a beam.
00:04:38.500 He's saying, no, no, no.
00:04:39.120 When you're finding moats in other people's eyes,
00:04:41.020 that's because of the beam in your eye.
00:04:42.960 It's causing that cloudy vision.
00:04:45.060 It's causing this look to where you're finding fault in others.
00:04:48.640 And the closer you get to God, you lose that.
00:04:50.740 You start to lose that, right?
00:04:52.020 And Isaiah 6 is a good example.
00:04:53.300 It says, in the year that King Uzziah died,
00:04:55.440 I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne high and lifted up
00:04:58.140 and his train filled the temple.
00:05:00.080 Above it stood the seraphims.
00:05:01.400 Each one had six wings.
00:05:02.600 With two, he covered his face.
00:05:03.720 And with two, he covered his feet.
00:05:05.120 And with two, he did fly.
00:05:06.420 And one cried unto another and said, Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts.
00:05:10.740 The whole earth is full of his glory.
00:05:13.020 And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.
00:05:17.500 Then said I, Isaiah speaking, woe is me, not everybody else.
00:05:21.960 Woe is me, for I'm undone, because I'm a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips.
00:05:28.280 For my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.
00:05:31.320 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from off the altar.
00:05:36.420 And he laid it upon my mouth and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips, and thy iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.
00:05:43.600 So it's not until he recognizes, Woe is me, brings forth his own sin, till it can be dealt with.
00:05:49.280 Also, I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Who shall I send, and who will I go?
00:05:52.960 Then said, I hear him, I send me.
00:05:54.760 And he said, Go.
00:05:56.300 Right?
00:05:56.520 So like bringing forth your own sin, presenting it to God, being able to deal with that has to happen before the forgiveness can happen and for the commissioning can happen as well before you can be a sent one.
00:06:08.200 Right. Like all of that, you have to deal with self. Right. Not not pointing it out to everybody else.
00:06:14.100 While we're in this is we'll just do a little bonus for Sparrow, because I know sometimes she gets a little funny with the whole Jesus God thing.
00:06:20.560 If we can pull up Isaiah 6, we can pull up verse 5, we can pull up verse 3, any one of those, and we can just kind of look at this word where it says, who exactly is Isaiah seeing here?
00:06:39.240 We want to take a quick look at that.
00:06:44.060 You ready?
00:06:44.660 no no no we need it in the in the blb so we can pull up the word itself the the actual hebrew
00:06:51.100 word gotcha but uh while you're doing that i'll go to the passage in john where it's where it kind
00:06:57.340 of um unpacks this a little bit it's gonna be interesting right a couple different words in
00:07:09.620 the bible for god right more than a couple even like in the beginning it's elohim which is a word
00:07:14.080 we can use for God, but we can use for other things other than God. Adonai, this is another
00:07:18.800 name used for God. You even get into some of these descriptors like Jehovah Rapha, you know,
00:07:25.480 these type of things. But this particular one, if we look at like, say, you can look at verse three,
00:07:31.220 you can click on verse three, or you can click on verse five, any of those.
00:07:34.820 thanks for getting everything ready this morning sorry to be rude and talk about how you're late
00:07:45.340 because you're puerto rican and stuff that's all right just makes for a good time uh cry into 0.96
00:07:50.120 another holy holy holy is the lord of hosts let's look at that jehovah jehovah i think even in the
00:07:57.640 hebrew it's less letters than that even but that's a name used for god and god alone right
00:08:04.100 so that so that's that's who isaiah is seeing that's who he's talking about and now if we look
00:08:10.680 at the existing one the proper name the one true god the one true god amen that's what it's used
00:08:17.200 for right now we look at john 12 uh 36 we don't have to do this in blb i just want to make sure
00:08:24.280 everybody knows that that's saying jehovah jehovah however you want to pronounce it some people won't
00:08:29.320 even pronounce it that's fine too um but that's who isaiah is seeing right jehovah now if we look
00:08:37.440 at john 12 36 it says while you have light believe in the light that you may be the children of light
00:08:42.540 these things spake jesus and departed and did hide himself from them but though he had done
00:08:47.860 so many miracles he that's jesus before them yet they believe not on him that the saying of isaiah
00:08:54.540 the prophet might be fulfilled which he spoke lord who hath believed our report and to whom
00:08:58.740 at the arm of the Lord been revealed. Therefore, they could not believe because that Isaiah said
00:09:03.160 again, he hath blinded their eyes and hardened their heart that they should not see with their
00:09:07.320 eyes nor understand with their heart and be converted and I should heal them. These things
00:09:11.520 said Isaiah when he saw his glory and spake of him. That's Jesus. That's who Isaiah saw. That's
00:09:19.460 what's being said in John right here. Nevertheless, among the chief rulers, also many believed on him,
00:09:25.240 But because of the Pharisees, they did not confess him lest they should put lest they should be put out of the synagogue for they love the praise of men more than the praise of God.
00:09:33.500 So I'm just making the point that this is clearly speaking of Jesus and saying that's who Isaiah saw. 0.57
00:09:38.320 And he's called Jehovah. Very offensive for a lot of people.
00:09:41.140 But that's what that's saying. That's just bonus footage. That's just bonus footage.
00:09:44.680 The point that we were getting at, though, is simply that the closer you get to God, when you see God,
00:09:50.420 you start to come into this realization of your own shortcomings of your own sin of your own fault
00:09:56.480 and you become less and less of wanting to point out the flaws in others which is ultimately what
00:10:00.780 this passage is pointing to right is like deal with the beam in your own eye you know we talk
00:10:06.620 about like looking unto jesus the author and finisher of our faith not looking unto motes
00:10:10.400 right um so i think it brings up this top this thought of like what better way for you to help
00:10:16.760 others overcome sin than by you living a holy life right like he like he's like once he deals
00:10:22.240 with isaiah's sin he says go like go live this holy life be this example like if is you living
00:10:28.180 the godly life as an example around mankind going to be the way to win them to the lord or is
00:10:33.380 pointing out their flaws going to be the way to win them to the lord this is just kind of basic

00:13:27.220 So if we look at Luke 5, 1 through 11,
00:13:32.020 We're going to have another, something similar to this.
00:13:36.380 Something similar.
00:13:39.660 Luke 5, 1 through 11.
00:13:42.060 It says this.
00:13:43.560 It says, and it came to pass that as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God,
00:13:47.720 he stood by the lake of Gennesaret and saw two ships standing by the lake.
00:13:51.220 But the fishermen were gone out of them and were washing their nets.
00:13:54.180 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's,
00:13:56.680 and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land.
00:13:59.080 and he sat down and taught the people out of the ship now when he had left speaking he said on
00:14:04.000 simon so he's speaking he's teaching everybody it looks like he stopped speaking maybe the crowds
00:14:09.280 leave maybe they don't i don't know but he stops he stops uh speaking and he tells peter launch out
00:14:15.180 into the deep and let down your nets for a draft this simon's a professional fisherman it's what
00:14:20.780 he does for a living he has a fishing business it's uh peter andrew james john and james and
00:14:26.620 john's dad and they've got servants too and simon answering said unto him master we've toiled all
00:14:32.360 the night and have taken nothing nevertheless at thy word i will let down the net well you know we
00:14:38.840 love that phrase right at thy word wearing that shirt right now yeah that's that's elijah's thing
00:14:43.660 too that's an interesting statement in scripture where a man says to god you know like i love this
00:14:48.680 peter's saying this doesn't really make sense man like i'm a professional fisherman like we've been
00:14:53.580 doing this but if you say so this doesn't make any sense like in the natural realm like in my
00:14:58.360 area of profession but at thy word i'll do it even though it doesn't make sense i like that
00:15:03.580 um then it says this when they had this done they enclosed a great multitude of fishes in their
00:15:12.400 net break and they beckoned unto their partners which were in the other ship that they should
00:15:17.060 come and help them and they came and filled both the ships so that they began to sink like this is
00:15:21.680 this is the payload right you know like when you see the guys on the history channel they're getting
00:15:26.600 the gold in alaska this is like the payload dude they get so much fish that the boat's sinking
00:15:31.400 yeah this is a big payday fill both the ships so that they began to sink when peter saw it
00:15:37.780 he wrote a book on 10 steps to better finances and how to get jesus to bless your life to make
00:15:44.380 more money and went around doing a book tour saying how good it is to be rich as a christian
00:15:48.920 That doesn't read like the King James.
00:15:50.340 No, no.
00:15:51.040 He doesn't say anything like that, dude.
00:15:53.220 He doesn't say anything like that.
00:15:54.040 It says, when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees saying, depart from me for I'm a sinful man.
00:16:01.460 You see what I'm saying?
00:16:02.040 You come in contact with God and his wonder and all of the reality of God, this is a thing.
00:16:08.760 It's not just Isaiah.
00:16:09.760 It happens to Peter, too.
00:16:10.900 He becomes aware of his sin.
00:16:12.940 It's kind of crazy.
00:16:13.500 like a back back then that's what would need to be proven for you to go wow there really is a god
00:16:19.960 you know but today like it feels like we need a lot more uh assurances for these things right
00:16:27.360 a lyrical can stare you right in the face and you just kind of be like whatever yeah
00:16:31.020 yeah it's just because there's so much swirling information dude there's so much swirling
00:16:36.900 information there's so many things to be sucked into there's so many things that like by human
00:16:41.960 wisdom and human reason will sound a lot smarter than the bible yeah right like that's like that's
00:16:48.040 the genius of it is god's like this is for babes like this isn't for the geniuses it is for the
00:16:52.560 geniuses if you can submit your genius to god then you could get in too but a lot of times the
00:16:58.260 genius and the intellect is a hindrance and i'm just making the point that like he comes in contact
00:17:06.040 with God. And that's his reaction. He becomes so aware of his sin. He says,
00:17:18.940 at Jesus' knees saying, fell at Jesus' knees saying, depart from me for I am a sinful man.
00:17:24.120 That's interesting too. Like, would Jesus be accepting somebody falling at his knees in a
00:17:28.020 place of worship if he's not God? Depart from me for I am a sinful man, O Lord. For he was astonished
00:17:34.120 and all that were with him at the draft of the fishes, which they had taken.
00:17:40.260 And so, and so was also James and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon.
00:17:46.060 And Jesus said unto Simon, fear not from henceforth, you shall catch men.
00:17:50.680 And when they had brought all their ships to land after the big payday, right?
00:17:55.260 They get the giant payday.
00:17:57.940 He, he doesn't go write a book on how to make a lot of money and be a Christian.
00:18:01.500 Hey, here's seven steps to better finances.
00:18:04.120 that I get from the Bible. Hey, look, here's me using biblical principles to get wealthy on the
00:18:08.600 earth. No, no, no, man. He does actually the exact opposite, right? You want to talk about
00:18:12.880 a Christian business? And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all and followed 1.00
00:18:17.300 them. The Christian business that we have an example of is closed. It's shut down. That's 1.00
00:18:23.200 the Christian business. He had a business. He shuts it down, forsakes all, and follows Jesus.
00:18:28.160 now maybe you know he's got servants still running it with uh james and john's dad or whatever but
00:18:35.160 the point is that like he comes in contact with god his main thing is not his finances and his
00:18:40.680 job and worldly wealth he becomes very aware of his sin not everybody else's his own sin same
00:18:46.500 thing with isaiah this whole thing happens and he bows before him he doesn't say everybody else is
00:18:51.720 so sinful god he doesn't say that he says i'm a sinful man okay so now if we look at uh we
00:18:58.040 can look at an example of this of of the um of a man with a beam finding moats it's in luke 18 9
00:19:04.460 through 14 i just i like that peter recognizes how blessed he is and doesn't seek those blessings
00:19:11.860 he forsakes those blessings and seeks god so he says i'm with you i'm going with you yeah i
00:19:17.220 recognize how blessed i am there's no i don't need he's going to seek the kingdom of god now
00:19:21.560 and all these others will be added unto him but he's not going to keep seeking the blessings he's
00:19:25.120 just going to seek God. And that is the blessing. Amen. And not to say there's not other blessings
00:19:30.820 that come along with serving God, but that's not why you serve him. You serve him because he's
00:19:34.580 worthy because you become astonished at who he is and you serve him and you go after him. And that
00:19:39.560 is nice that you have a blessed life because of that, because that's the desire of the King,
00:19:43.680 right? When we get back into this whole context of Sermon on the Mount, he starts off like right
00:19:48.360 from the jump, explaining the context of the kingdom and what the nature of those citizens
00:19:52.800 are, it is blessed. It is blessed. That's why he opens up with the beatitudes. He says, Hey,
00:19:56.540 this is what it's like in our kingdom. People are blessed. They're happy. They have joy. Like this
00:20:00.580 is the context of our kingdom, which is really the whole point of Matthew. If we don't, we always
00:20:05.980 want to keep all of this in context. Like the whole context of Matthew is repent for the kingdom of
00:20:10.300 God is at hand. Like John the Baptist says it, Jesus says it. It's like, repent, turn your thinking,
00:20:15.600 turn your ways, turn and go another direction, but not just that by itself, because the kingdom
00:20:21.480 of god is at hand this changes everything this changes everything and that's part of the culture
00:20:25.840 of our kingdom all right so if we look at luke 18 9 through 14 it says this
00:20:34.080 it says uh and he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were
00:20:43.520 righteous and despised others two men went up into the temple to pray the one a pharisee and
00:20:49.240 the other Republican. So you see it? You see it though? He's saying that this parable is in a
00:20:52.800 certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous and despised others. Like that's a,
00:20:58.640 that's a picture of a beam in your own eye finding a moat in somebody's, somebody else's eye.
00:21:04.940 See what I'm saying? Certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous and despised
00:21:10.660 others. Two men went up into the temple to pray, the one a Pharisee and the other Republican.
00:21:15.140 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee that I am not as other men.
00:21:22.060 Right? 0.70
00:21:22.540 No vision of God, right?
00:21:24.660 We see these guys, they have a vision of God, and they become very aware of their shortcomings in themselves.
00:21:29.980 So this guy's got no vision of God, right?
00:21:32.100 And with no vision of God, it's very easy to point out flaws in others, right?
00:21:37.100 I thank thee that I'm not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
00:21:42.420 So who's even to say that he's wrong and these flaws that he's finding?
00:21:45.520 It's simply that you're wanting to do that is because you don't have a vision of God.
00:21:49.920 You have a beam in your eye.
00:21:51.380 I fast twice in the week.
00:21:53.420 I give tithes of all that I possess.
00:21:55.260 So he's like, he's like delusional about his actual state, right?
00:21:58.960 Because he's got no vision of God.
00:22:01.220 And the publican standing afar off would not lift up so much as his eyes into heaven,
00:22:05.660 but smote upon his breast.
00:22:07.780 I like this guy. 0.99
00:22:08.420 He's like a gorilla ready for war. 0.97
00:22:09.820 He's like beats on his chest like a gorilla.
00:22:11.520 he says, saying, God, be merciful to me, a sinner. I'm aware of my sin. Be merciful to me,
00:22:17.560 a sinner, God. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other
00:22:22.300 for everyone that exalts himself shall be abased and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.
00:22:26.960 We talk about that all the time. It's kind of in a certain way, God breaks all of humanity down
00:22:31.480 into two groups, man, humble and proud. And he resists the proud and he gives grace to the
00:22:36.440 humble. I'm not saying that's the only way he breaks people down, but in an interesting way,
00:22:40.220 He separates people by that, by that alone, like pride and humility.
00:22:45.560 Then it says this, it says,
00:22:47.800 and they brought unto him also infants that he would touch them.
00:22:51.780 But when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them.
00:22:55.480 Jesus loves babies, man.
00:22:58.340 But Jesus called them unto him and said,
00:23:00.280 suffer little children to come unto me and forbid them not for of such is the
00:23:03.480 kingdom of God.
00:23:05.020 Verily I say unto you,
00:23:05.880 whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall and
00:23:10.120 no wise enter there in what did you call it last week spiritual karens that just point out the
00:23:16.180 flaws and others yeah yeah you gotta you can't come as a spiritual karen that goes around like
00:23:20.280 pointing out flaws and other people you got to come as a little child i don't think the little
00:23:24.540 children do that they just like to play they're just having a good time not saying they don't
00:23:28.500 have conflict when they're little kids fighting over a toy or something but like when they're
00:23:31.920 little they're not like pointing out flaws and others like stuff just kind of rolls up their
00:23:36.060 Well, little kids do. I mean, they do, but it's not in a way that they have a beam in their eye and pointing out the other beam. They will tell you what's wrong with you, though.
00:23:46.360 I think they got to get a little older for that though. Right. This one's talking about infants. Right. So I don't know. I think it's interesting that that that's inserted here. Right. Like it like it does tie together. So I just think I don't know. I think people think that like they're finding moats in other people's eyes because they're super deep and spiritual. Right. It's like you're it's like this saying like you're not finding moats in other people's eyes because you're super deep and spiritual or you've got like this special gift.
00:24:15.220 you're finding moats because you have a beam in your eye.
00:24:17.900 It's just trying to make that plain.
00:24:19.980 And the,
00:24:20.520 and the intriguing thing about all this dude is that like,
00:24:23.140 I think I said this before,
00:24:26.080 like if you've ever taken a beam out of your own eye,
00:24:28.160 by the time you're done,
00:24:29.060 you really don't care about the moat.
00:24:31.120 Like that's kind of what's intriguing about this.
00:24:33.000 And it's like the way Jesus explains things in parables and you have to
00:24:37.800 unpack them.
00:24:38.560 He's almost like,
00:24:39.280 yeah,
00:24:39.400 man,
00:24:39.640 if somebody takes this serious and,
00:24:41.540 and,
00:24:41.840 and sees moats in other people's eyes,
00:24:44.080 and then has to go through the process of taking a beam out of their eye,
00:24:48.680 they'll realize that they don't even care about that moat anymore.
00:24:51.360 That's what's kind of funny about it.
00:24:52.560 I know it says that, like, once you have the beam out,
00:24:55.140 then you can, you know, help them remove the moat.
00:24:58.260 But I don't know.
00:24:59.060 It's kind of interesting the way that's inserted there.
00:25:01.300 He's like, well, let's just see who takes the beam out.
00:25:03.440 It's like once you take the beam out,
00:25:04.740 you become incredibly not concerned with the moats, dude.
00:25:07.480 This is just a real thing to me because, like,
00:25:09.400 i i had like i probably still do have a real issue just with like um looking at people and
00:25:18.320 being frustrated where they're at uh and i remember this is so ridiculous but i'll just
00:25:23.240 say it anyway like when i was early on in the game i was like people in the church even they've been
00:25:27.740 here 30 years they are not living with any discipline man they're just living this such
00:25:31.520 a non-disciplined life like no discipline in the scripture no discipline in the prayer
00:25:35.700 they just don't have a very disciplined life they eat fast food multiple meals a day
00:25:40.420 and it was just all part of this bigger picture of like lack of discipline and i was just looking
00:25:45.640 for moats i just want to be clear on that you're gonna find it's why this is very real to me and
00:25:49.760 i was like yeah man christians should not be eating fast food that's a very non-disciplined
00:25:53.240 lifestyle like i literally did like was that judgy that's that's how i understand what this
00:25:58.180 is talking about it was very much like i can't believe they're like that until i had to take
00:26:02.640 the beam out of my eye. And God really dealt with me on that topic, man. And I think at that time
00:26:07.400 was where I just became very real. Like this passage became very real. It was like, yeah,
00:26:11.160 dude, you're going to just go around pointing out what other people are doing different. And I
00:26:15.000 said it before, like God's dealing with everybody in different ways, man. Like the whole thing we're
00:26:18.800 reading from G. Campbell Morgan is how he deals with different individuals in different days.
00:26:23.300 I needed to see the lack of discipline in my life. Right. So he was dealing with me with a lack of
00:26:28.840 discipline in my life. And so I was seeing that in others. He's like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa,
00:26:33.000 that's not, I'm not like, I'm talking to you about this. That doesn't mean you go talk to
00:26:37.580 everybody else about this. I could be talking to them about something different in their life.
00:26:41.020 That's also like a coping mechanism for yourself. It's like sucking on your thumb. 0.95
00:26:45.540 To point out that like, oh yeah, other people are, yeah.
00:26:48.480 Yeah, yeah. It's more brutal to be like, well, I mean, you know, you recognize that other people
00:26:53.920 are doing these things yes this is true but to judge them is almost like uh you're putting
00:27:01.680 yourself at a handicap by saying like oh well look at them you know therefore i am here you're
00:27:08.500 definitely handicapping yourself it's like no i suck i'm not really worried about this guy and 0.51
00:27:13.240 for me it's it's like actually really bad to the point where like i don't really worry about other 0.63
00:27:18.560 people what they do at all to the point where i don't even really care about other people
00:27:22.920 because I got to care about myself and what I'm doing.
00:27:26.000 Okay, but you, I mean, you do care about people,
00:27:28.020 but I get what you're saying.
00:27:28.960 No.
00:27:29.840 All right, so here's the thing, man.
00:27:31.320 Like, so in the end, what we're seeing is this is a heart issue.
00:27:34.200 If you love judging people, it's a you problem.
00:27:36.720 It's not a them problem.
00:27:37.980 We're just trying to say that plainly.
00:27:40.700 But like the more, this is like the unfortunate thing
00:27:43.140 about doing a study like this is just that
00:27:44.820 as you unpack it more and more,
00:27:46.360 you're like, this is a very incomplete study.
00:27:48.740 Like this passage, just like a lot of passages,
00:27:50.740 you find out that there's just so many layers
00:27:52.800 to what's being said here.
00:27:54.460 And I know there's the geniuses that are like,
00:27:56.360 no, no, no, this is just a cold dead textbook.
00:27:58.680 This is just two plus two is four.
00:28:00.380 But the more you look at, it's like,
00:28:01.840 yeah, yeah, yeah, two plus two is four.
00:28:03.160 I got it.
00:28:03.780 You learn that in cemetery school.
00:28:05.480 You're right.
00:28:06.060 You can prove everybody else wrong.
00:28:07.780 But for some of us, there's layers to it.
00:28:09.380 It's like two apples plus two apples
00:28:11.560 is different than two apples plus two oranges
00:28:13.580 or two apples minus two apples
00:28:15.920 or two oranges times two apples
00:28:17.920 or two apples divided by two.
00:28:20.360 You see what I'm saying?
00:28:21.000 Like there's layers to this, dude.
00:28:22.580 Like two cherries and two pineapples is different than two apples and two pears.
00:28:26.540 Like, so, amen.
00:28:28.340 I love the guys who are like, no, each passage only means one thing.
00:28:31.540 That's great.
00:28:32.120 That's great.
00:28:32.500 But there's like layers to this.
00:28:34.280 And I feel like as I was unpacking this, I was like, is there a thing that's really the thing that is the beam in the moat?
00:28:40.880 You know what I was really thinking about this morning?
00:28:43.500 It's like doing the farm work and just kind of like thinking about it.
00:28:46.940 It's like, is the beam self and is the moat self also?
00:28:51.520 if you know what I'm saying, if like the beam that's in your eye is self, right? And so you're
00:28:56.500 viewing everything through that lens and it's clouding your vision and self is what's making
00:29:01.920 you see flaws in others. And is it interesting that like the moat is made out of the same thing
00:29:07.320 that the beams made out of? Is it that self is so big in your eye, but you're looking at them
00:29:12.920 and self is little in their eye. Like they're not doing what you want them to do in regards to me,
00:29:18.020 right is there a connection in that i don't know i don't know i just was chewing on it this morning
00:29:22.720 but that's why i love the bible because i'll probably chew on that like the rest of my life
00:29:25.840 like is is the beam self your body is always giving you signals whoop helps you understand

00:32:02.140 So if we look at Matthew 16, 24, it says this.
00:32:06.260 It says, then said Jesus and his disciples,
00:32:08.200 if any man will come after me, let him deny himself.
00:32:10.980 and take up his cross and follow me, right?
00:32:14.560 Do you have Revelation 12, 11 in the NLT?
00:32:19.500 It's just an interesting thing, dude.
00:32:22.400 It's like love of self gets in the way
00:32:25.940 and I could totally see how the beam is self.
00:32:30.360 Is this what it says, man?
00:32:31.500 It says, and they have defeated him
00:32:34.620 by the blood of the lamb and by their testimony
00:32:36.760 and they did not love their lives so much
00:32:39.680 that they were afraid to die. See how self can just get in the way. If you love yourself so much
00:32:45.720 and you're so focused on self, it can totally take you off the rails. I don't know. To me,
00:32:51.600 self really fits this picture of the beam and the moat, right? And of course, this is like this crazy
00:32:58.480 thing because I think like the modern church tells you like, you got to love yourself. You got to
00:33:02.900 love yourself. Like Jesus like doesn't take into account that you don't love yourself. He says,
00:33:07.800 love your neighbor as you love yourself like there's no concept of that you don't love yourself
00:33:12.400 like that's the way humanity is dude like we all i don't care what like psychologists told you don't
00:33:18.260 love yourself like the way the human experience works not to say we there's not things we hate
00:33:22.420 about ourself like there's definitely things we hate about ourself or that we're ashamed of or
00:33:26.000 whatever but like people love self and self gets in the way well one of the interesting things
00:33:32.100 about interesting things about self that I've always thought is the thing that we are called
00:33:38.520 to do from God is to create. Like we create children. He wants us to fill the earth. So
00:33:45.780 when we're creating children, like I'm very aware when I had my kids that it's like that is
00:33:51.800 part of me. There's a reflection of me in there. And it's almost saying like to the world, like
00:33:57.000 i love myself so much i want to make more of me like more of things that look like me and then
00:34:03.400 i'm going to train them up in the way in in this world to to behave how i think is right and and
00:34:09.860 god has asked us to do that i didn't you're making faces based on the love itself though i don't think
00:34:14.440 i was like i love me so much i'm going to make people like i think deep down no i think deep
00:34:19.100 down when you listen some people just have kids and and that's like a sexual desire but some people
00:34:24.680 have kids. And the deep down the creation idea of that is like, I'm going to make more of myself.
00:34:31.080 I don't know, man. That's what it is. Yeah. But what if it's like, no, I'm looking at God and
00:34:35.080 he's given us this wonderful thing called life. And I'm going to give these little humans a shot
00:34:39.500 at life who are made in the image and likeness of God. They belong more to God than they belong to
00:34:43.580 me. I'm just a steward over them. Yeah. But you're allowed to mold and form these things. And they
00:34:49.080 also look just like you. It's weird. Yeah, they do, man. I mean, your kids look like you. My
00:34:54.280 kids look like me. It's, I am creating this small reflection of myself, but like, that's what God
00:34:58.960 asked us to do. He didn't ask me to do that to you. You're your own thing. So like, if I'm going
00:35:04.220 to go out there and judge the, you know, the moat in your eye, when I have a beat, this doesn't work.
00:35:08.960 But on the other hand, God has given us this thing where it's like, yo, you can have kids
00:35:12.300 and you can raise them up. Well, you know, raise them to be fearful of God and to know me. But like,
00:35:17.520 this is also a reflection of me every time. I don't know. It's a weird thing.
00:35:21.700 i'm tracking with you that it's a reflection of you it's a little you like people that have nine
00:35:25.780 kids i'm like you've got nine kids at some point it's there's a psychological thing where you're
00:35:30.980 saying yeah hell yeah more of me in the world no i don't know if i'm tracking with that you know so
00:35:36.380 what's the point then why are people doing this dude on the one hand i think it's uh so-called
00:35:40.800 instinct like i don't know dude the state that i was in you think that when we wanted to have kids
00:35:45.500 when i when me and jess were young and had kids like we were not saying okay there's a we were
00:35:50.100 off the rails the old pastor from Brooklyn uh he's the newer pastor at that church that I used
00:35:55.160 to go to they've got like I don't even know so many kids okay but what's wrong with that there's
00:35:59.820 nothing wrong with it but what I'm saying is is that like they are creating duplicates of
00:36:04.220 themselves in a way like they are that's that's what they're doing I don't know dude why are they
00:36:09.000 doing it because I think your human your little humans are their own individual they don't they
00:36:13.400 have a different iris right if they look in the thing to open the thing you know in the spy movie
00:36:18.300 you got to use your eyeball because everybody only has one eyeball like they're all the eyeballs
00:36:22.080 are different the fingertips are all different like that's an individual man like yeah that's
00:36:26.720 like your little human that you made but they're their own self dude they're their own person
00:36:30.340 that that little human that came from you is going to carry on your lineage yes okay but they're not
00:36:37.000 necessarily going to even like like you guaranteed stay around when they turn 18 that's what i'm
00:36:43.000 saying it's like they are their own individual i don't like this whole thing of like no you're
00:36:47.900 just me no it's not it's not that you're just i no no no my kids are not just me i don't like
00:36:53.240 thank god yeah no i imagine they were on twitter like just trashing the other little kids that
00:36:57.760 would be i wouldn't i would never raise my kids for them to i actually i enjoy the fact that
00:37:01.980 they're different from me but they are reflections of me they are like very strong reflections through
00:37:07.520 the dna and through the training right not not like they are physically made of what you're made
00:37:12.460 of and the environment you create for them yeah i try yeah i'll train them and i'll teach them but
00:37:16.800 they also do these inherent things i'm like yeah okay that is me in there i have made i've made
00:37:21.600 this small version of me and when this version of me i'm gonna pick that beam out of their eye i'm
00:37:26.180 gonna pick that mode out of their eye that's like when it's appropriate sure but but to a stranger
00:37:31.100 or to somebody who's not my flesh and blood this is not appropriate these are you're my brother and
00:37:36.360 my sister in in christ like we all have the same larger family but like i don't it's strange this
00:37:42.740 what this is what i'm getting at it applies to immediate family god has given us that but we
00:37:47.160 would say the church is our immediate family as well like the true church is family it's not kind
00:37:52.480 of family pray like this our father right not my father our father in heaven pray like this the
00:37:58.560 family of god like we are the family of god now is the church operating today really operating like
00:38:05.360 a family most would say no but that's that's what it's supposed to be so yeah that's not to say in
00:38:10.780 your own little sphere of your family and loved ones that are in your little church right your
00:38:15.460 little body and your little sphere that you're in that you don't correct we went through that last
00:38:19.480 week like correcting in the church yeah yeah but yeah i just think like the stuff that you see in
00:38:24.180 your children especially the stuff you know that you're like that you just try to create this
00:38:28.340 environment help them where they can not be like you and those things that you know are wrong in
00:38:32.620 you and you try to guide them and talk to them about it plenty of stuff that i would talk to
00:38:36.800 Aiden about, right? I'd be like, Hey, this is a potential issue for you because it was an issue
00:38:40.980 for me. So here's, you know, what you need to be doing. You need to be aware of it for one,
00:38:45.200 you need to deal with it. That's what I'm saying. It's like a dad. It's great if a dad can give
00:38:48.460 guidance, dude. It's very good if a dad can say like, Hey man, here's a couple of pitfalls in
00:38:53.200 life. Here's a couple of things that'll go good if you can run it this way. You know, so we're
00:38:57.480 trying to do those things. There's, there's an art form to seeing the, the moat in your
00:39:02.960 children's eye pointing it out to them without, you know, being brash about it. Is that what
00:39:08.760 Jesus is talking about here? It's like, just like, like boldly claiming someone has something wrong
00:39:13.660 with them. Or is there a way to, if someone does have something wrong, this is an interesting thing.
00:39:18.120 Cause like I'm saying, like by the time you get done with the beam, like you don't really care
00:39:21.480 about the moat in other people's eyes anymore, but in your own children, this absolutely would
00:39:26.720 be a scenario where, yeah, you got to help them get the moat out of your eye. But when you're
00:39:29.960 dealing with your children take the beam out first it would really be applicable to that because yeah
00:39:34.000 imagine you're seeing this thing in your kid and you see yourself and the thing that they're doing
00:39:38.160 and you're like i don't like that and it stems from like i know what that is in me and i see them
00:39:43.700 doing that now i'm going no holds bar ripping it out like no no no you can you definitely have to
00:39:48.880 deal with your child you of all humans you have to deal with your child or you're you're doing a
00:39:53.300 incredible injustice to them if you're not dealing with it but take the beam out first
00:39:58.160 layers to this man layers based on your relationships is a good point man
00:40:03.060 it's a really good point all right so the beam is what's heinous in heaven's perspective not
00:40:08.720 the moat right and i would argue that lack of love is the real issue when dealing with these
00:40:14.600 things right so we look at john 13 34 through 35 a new commandment i give unto you we talk a lot
00:40:23.180 about obeying the commands of god right obeying the commands of jesus being obedient to him and
00:40:27.700 I think Tozer is going to get into that in our next sermon to a new commandment I give unto you, that you love one another as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
00:40:37.660 So this is a new command, right? Love is not a new command. Love has always been the command. Right.
00:40:44.200 But there's a new commandment under Jesus, right under the authority of the king and in our kingdom and in the culture of our kingdom.
00:40:51.740 right in the body of christ in the family of god all of those things there's a new commandment
00:40:58.100 since jesus i it's a new commandment i give unto you that you love one another as i have loved you
00:41:04.260 that you also love one another by this not by your doctrine not by your theology not by your
00:41:11.020 eschatology not by your sunday habits your sunday uh building habits like you oh they do that every
00:41:17.120 sunday they must be a christian that's not so what jesus says he says by this by loving
00:41:21.720 Loving others as I have loved you, shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love one to another, right?
00:41:29.320 So keep that in your back pocket.
00:41:30.640 Let's look at 1 Timothy 1, 3 through 7.
00:41:33.960 This is in the NLT too.
00:41:35.420 You got those?
00:41:36.120 Okay, sorry.
00:41:36.620 I meant to bring my NLT Bible and I forgot.
00:41:38.820 And the next one in Colossians is NLT also.
00:41:40.940 So it's 1 Tim 1, 3 through 7.
00:41:46.740 It says this.
00:41:47.680 It says, when I left for Macedonia, I urge you to stay there in Ephesus. 0.72
00:41:51.720 and stop those whose teaching is contrary to the truth.
00:41:56.920 Don't let them waste their time in endless discussion of myths and spiritual pedigrees.
00:42:01.880 These things only lead to meaningless speculations,
00:42:04.580 which don't help people live a life of faith in God.
00:42:07.720 So, oh, but they're really interesting. It's so fun.
00:42:09.660 Yeah, yeah, but some of this stuff ends up as meaningless discussions.
00:42:16.880 The purpose of my instruction is that all believers would be filled with love.
00:42:21.720 So he's saying, like, he's holding this in contrast to that, right?
00:42:24.900 Like, here's the purpose of what I'm doing.
00:42:26.420 The purpose of my instruction is that all believers would be filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clean conscience, and genuine faith.
00:42:34.520 But some people have missed this whole point.
00:42:36.480 They have turned away from these things and spend their time in meaningless discussions.
00:42:42.280 They want to be known as teachers of the law of Moses, but they don't know what they are talking about, even though they speak so confidently, right?
00:42:49.320 So he says, look, Paul says, my emphasis is on love.

00:45:06.360 Spreaker, because if you're going to talk to yourself for an hour, you might as well
00:45:10.760 publish it, right?
00:45:12.660 Jesus said, by this shall all men know that you're my disciples, by love, right?
00:45:17.160 Colossians 3, 12 through 14 is what we got here.
00:45:26.800 It says this, it says, since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe
00:45:32.180 yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance
00:45:38.100 for each other's faults. I like that, right? Like don't, this is the moat thing. Make allowance for
00:45:43.500 each other's fault. People got moats, man. Make allowance for each other's faults and forgive
00:45:48.280 anyone who offends you. Remember the Lord forgave you. So you must forgive others. Like that's the
00:45:53.640 context of why we forgive. We look at our relationship with God. We go, wow, he forgave
00:45:57.920 me for a lot more than whatever the thing is the guy did over here that hurts my feelings.
00:46:02.820 Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony, right?
00:46:10.160 So love is the issue. Love is what's causing like the view of everything. So it's not really
00:46:17.220 things that happen to you, right? But it's your perception of things because of the beam, right?
00:46:22.140 It's not your circumstances, it's your reaction to your circumstances, right?
00:46:27.900 And what we need to do is have it based on love, right?
00:46:30.560 Looking for flaws in others is the opposite of those three passages that we just read, right?
00:46:36.240 Let's look at 1 Corinthians 13 because this is really the wonderful passage on love.
00:46:47.500 It says this.
00:46:52.140 You got it?
00:46:53.300 Doth not behave itself unseemingly?
00:46:55.720 Seeketh not her own?
00:46:56.600 Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
00:46:57.640 You're already in five?
00:46:58.500 No, I got to start at one.
00:46:59.600 I'm going to start in one.
00:47:00.940 Sorry.
00:47:02.500 Yeah, I made that confusing in the notes.
00:47:04.100 That's my bad.
00:47:04.920 All right, so this is what verse five is the main point, though.
00:47:09.000 It says this, 1 Corinthians 13, verse one says,
00:47:11.200 Do I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, which is love, which is agape in the Greek.
00:47:19.560 Because we have different words for love in America.
00:47:21.460 you say, I love my car. I love my wife. I love God. Like, it's just, you know what I'm, we just
00:47:25.320 have, we just have the one word. It's agape here, right? And I'm not love. I am become a sounding
00:47:30.680 brass or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy and understand all mysteries,
00:47:36.600 like I'm a big dog in the church, man, I got the gift of prophecy. I understand all mysteries and
00:47:41.460 all knowledge. And though I have all faith so that I could remove mountains and have not love,
00:47:45.540 I'm nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be
00:47:51.760 burned and have not love, it profits me nothing. Charity, which is love, suffers long. This is a
00:47:57.860 great description of love right here. Love suffers long and is kind. Love envies not. Love vaunts not
00:48:04.100 itself, is not puffed up, does not behave itself unseemly, seeks not her own, is not easily provoked,
00:48:11.400 thinks no evil, rejoices not in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth, bears all things,
00:48:17.660 believes all things, and hopes all things, and endures all things. Love never fails.
00:48:23.940 I'll kind of, we could do the whole chapter, but I was just kind of letting it rip from there.
00:48:29.060 There's so much to unpack in this on love, which I'm not going to do that because that would be
00:48:34.080 like a whole study on itself. But there's this one phrase in verse five, right? It says,
00:48:40.340 thinks no evil, right? And that word think can mean imputes, reckons, accounts, or supposes,
00:48:49.960 right? In the NLT, this one says, love keeps no record of being wronged. This is like so big,
00:48:56.900 man. The medicine way is not irritable and it keeps no record of being wronged. That's such
00:49:02.580 a big deal, dude. That is so real to me. Just in work here, right? Where like it's been
00:49:10.180 very intriguing to me to watch people, how they react to other people where I'm watching a
00:49:15.500 conversation and I'm just saying, oh, that's just a normal conversation. Cool. Then like the customer
00:49:21.240 walks out the door and then the employee says, oh, can you believe they talked to me like that?
00:49:26.680 You're like, wait, what? That seemed like a total no, no, what they said and the way they acted.
00:49:31.280 And you're going like, no, no, no. That's just your perception of that. Like that was a totally
00:49:35.480 normal conversation that wasn't there was nothing crazy in that and it's wild man there's a there's
00:49:40.600 a wild way and this is why i hate the victimhood mindset dude it's it's incredibly destructive
00:49:45.260 like you probably you don't work around a lot of young people but like it's very very destructive
00:49:50.720 to young people to have this victimhood mindset to like go into situations looking to be the victim
00:49:56.980 like looking to be done wrong that's not what love does dude love assumes no evil like like love is
00:50:03.380 just living and not assuming that that person is doing evil to me. And even if they are, it's like,
00:50:08.900 whatever, I live in a place of love. So that's, in the end, that's on them, but I'm not going to
00:50:13.080 look for like evil to be being done to me or me to be the victim in any way. And I think that this
00:50:18.540 is part of this bigger picture of finding moats in other people. It also has to do with finding
00:50:24.900 faults in people when they talk to you and looking for a way that like they did you wrong somehow
00:50:29.760 in your conversation or in your relationship with them. Like it's a big thing. Our perception is a
00:50:35.220 very big thing. And love changes your perception. Love makes it to where like, no, in the end,
00:50:41.080 like whatever, say they are nasty or did something ugly to me or whatever. In the end,
00:50:46.340 something caused that, like something in that person's life caused that. Right. And that's
00:50:50.880 what love does. That's love changes us and makes us to where we're not having the beam,
00:50:55.040 seeking the mode, right? Listen to full episodes of Straight Bible anywhere you listen to podcasts,
