00:00:00.000 Like, I don't know, I've been interested in it.

00:00:30.000 Servant on the Mount, episode two.
00:00:33.780 We started last week.
00:00:34.780 The main point we were making last week was that Jesus had seen the masses, right?
00:00:40.440 He had seen the crowds, but that's not who he spoke to, right?
00:00:44.040 He saw the crowds, then he went away, and then he brought his disciples to the secret place.
00:00:49.360 And then he elaborated to them what the kingdom was like so that they could go out and live it out.
00:00:53.340 So that's the context of the Sermon on the Mount, and that's how Jesus operates.
00:00:56.480 He didn't go to the government and demand that, like, the governor change or the president or anything like that.
00:01:02.780 He took a small group with him that could handle it, those who could hear and see, if you will.
00:01:08.140 And he taught them the culture of our kingdom.
00:01:10.880 So I'll just go ahead and read that, too, but then we're going to jump in at verse six.
00:01:16.980 So one through five goes like this.
00:01:18.420 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain, and when he was set, his disciples came unto him.
00:01:22.640 And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying, Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
00:01:28.600 We went over that last week.
00:01:30.000 Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted.
00:01:33.720 Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
00:01:37.200 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.
00:01:41.460 That's what we're on right now.
00:01:42.920 We're on verse six.
00:01:44.720 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.
00:01:48.760 So, like, right from the gate, this whole thing of, like, blessed are those who hunger and thirst, there's just this mindset of a sense of adventure, which has always been a big deal to me, like, reading the scripture.
00:02:00.580 I just even, like, vividly remember reading the story of Abraham.
00:02:03.320 I'm like, yo, God just took this dude on an adventure.
00:02:05.380 He said, you live in Ur of the Chaldees.
00:02:07.200 You're like this Mesopotamian guy.
00:02:09.040 I'm going to grab you.
00:02:09.900 We're going to go somewhere you've never been.
00:02:11.560 You have no clue what's out in front of you.
00:02:13.980 And Abraham was like, yeah, let's go.
00:02:15.400 And I just always related to that.
00:02:17.300 What?
00:02:19.000 Is my mic not on?
00:02:20.640 Bro, we got to restart.
00:02:24.880 All right, guys.
00:02:25.960 Act like none of that happened.
00:02:29.580 We're doing it from the top.
00:02:32.120 Top Lofts Productions.
00:02:47.300 Okay, Sermon on the Mount, episode two.
00:03:04.280 Take two.
00:03:06.820 All right, so last week we talked about the significance of the opening of the Sermon on the Mount, right?
00:03:12.160 It's Jesus, he sees the crowds, he sees the masses, and then he gets away to a secret place and calls his disciples there, right?
00:03:19.780 He doesn't go to the masses and demand that they accept this kingdom because they can't.
00:03:24.320 They just can't.
00:03:24.980 This is for people who see and hear.
00:03:26.860 And he goes to them.
00:03:28.460 He elaborates on the culture of the kingdom of God.
00:03:30.680 That's what the Sermon on the Mount is so that they will go forth and they will live this out.
00:03:34.900 Like that's ultimately what the whole point is of the way Jesus deals with his church.
00:03:40.000 So we're going to start in verse six, but we'll kind of go back one through five from last week.
00:03:45.800 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain.
00:03:48.720 And when he was set, his disciples came unto him, and he opened his mouth and taught them, saying,
00:03:52.440 Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
00:03:55.980 Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted.
00:03:58.840 Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
00:04:01.200 We went over all that last week.
00:04:03.040 That was fun.
00:04:03.660 Top did great on those two.
00:04:04.840 He really liked that.
00:04:06.080 Then verse six is,
00:04:06.900 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.
00:04:11.820 And this whole idea of hungering and thirsting after something, it really reminds me of a sense of adventure.
00:04:20.480 Like it's something that you're like pressing towards, you're going after, you're hungering and thirsting after something.
00:04:26.440 And this sense of adventure thing is a big deal because like, I don't know, when you see people like losing their happiness in life and just kind of losing their funk in life,
00:04:36.760 a lot of times it just comes from like the monotony of life, man.
00:04:39.580 Like just like doing, it's not even a bad thing or a good thing.
00:04:42.080 That's not the issue.
00:04:42.880 The issue is that it's like the monotony of life.
00:04:44.820 It happens in church too.
00:04:46.340 Like you're just kind of do the same thing in church every Sunday, right?
00:04:49.260 And your life just kind of becomes the same thing, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.
00:04:52.860 And then, you know, you got two sevenths of your life to kind of do something else, but that kind of just goes the same too.
00:04:57.720 And then people really struggle with just this monotony of life.
00:05:00.780 But like, I always recognize in the scripture that God was taking dudes on adventures, man.
00:05:05.240 And you could say that there's a whole thing about a sense of adventure, especially the story of Abraham I always related to,
00:05:11.400 because God took him from Ur of the Chaldees.
00:05:13.920 He's just some dude from Mesopotamia.
00:05:16.120 And God grabs him and says, bro, you want to go on an adventure?
00:05:18.580 I'll take you to some land.
00:05:19.800 Like you have no clue.
00:05:20.940 You don't know anybody there.
00:05:22.060 You've never seen it.
00:05:23.420 You don't know what's going to happen next.
00:05:24.880 But if you trust me, let's go.
00:05:26.200 And so that's kind of wrapped up in this, too.
00:05:28.900 It's people who hunger and thirst after something.
00:05:31.300 It's not people who are like content.
00:05:33.980 And you could really say it's just people that are like discontent with everything that's unlike God.
00:05:39.560 I think it really goes hand in hand with blessed are those that mourn that we read last week.
00:05:44.940 It's like people are mourning over the state of things.
00:05:51.880 Why is there a Matt coin right there?
00:05:53.860 That's better.
00:05:54.340 Blessed are, sorry, I got sidetracked.
00:05:58.520 People who mourn over like the state of things in the world, like outside of God,
00:06:04.660 like those are the people who are going to hunger and thirst after righteousness.
00:06:07.500 They're not just nasty.
00:06:08.840 They're not just like, oh, look how bad the world is.
00:06:10.980 They see that.
00:06:12.100 But then they say, no, man, I'm hungering and thirsting for more.
00:06:15.020 I need something better.
00:06:16.000 I need more.
00:06:16.640 Something inside me knows that there's something else.
00:06:19.520 And I need to go for that.
00:06:21.100 I need to go for that.
00:06:22.000 And the funny thing about righteousness specifically is it's not really something that's our own.
00:06:29.440 We're going to we're going to dig into that right now.
00:06:31.320 So it's like this hunger and thirst for something that's actually outside of us.
00:06:35.100 Right.
00:06:35.300 So righteousness is this Greek word.
00:06:40.180 I don't want to butcher it and get made fun of and stuff, but it looks like it's pronounced Dick of Zion, something like that.
00:06:46.500 I'm not a Greek scholar, but whatever.
00:06:48.420 You can look it up.
00:06:49.940 And it's the state of him who is as he ought to be.
00:06:53.620 What a cool statement, man.
00:06:55.780 Righteousness.
00:06:56.220 The definition would be the state of him is who is as he ought to be.
00:07:01.600 Right.
00:07:02.620 I don't know.
00:07:03.340 Think about maybe you have times where you think about like the way you wish you would act.
00:07:07.600 Maybe maybe like in the past.
00:07:10.080 Maybe something like right now.
00:07:12.560 Maybe something in the future.
00:07:14.160 But you're looking at it.
00:07:15.340 You're thinking about your thing like there's a way I wish I would act or a way I wish I did act.
00:07:20.140 Right.
00:07:20.460 And all of that is wrapped up in this word righteous, the way we wish we would act.
00:07:28.820 Another definition for this word is the way in which man may attain a state approved of God.
00:07:33.200 Right.
00:07:33.360 Like the scriptures talk about that.
00:07:36.020 It's his righteousness that we have.
00:07:38.920 Right.
00:07:39.100 Like we don't have any righteousness.
00:07:40.780 This was the big beef with the righteousness of the law was that people thought they could fulfill the law to a certain extent to gain righteousness.
00:07:47.220 Whereas like the righteousness that came by faith is something different.
00:07:50.760 It's someone else's righteousness.
00:07:52.240 So blessed are those who hunger and thirst after that.
00:07:54.580 Let's look at Matthew 6, 31 through 34.
00:07:59.620 And then I'll just give you another definition here.
00:08:02.000 We're pulling that up.
00:08:02.840 It's integrity, virtue, purity of life, rightness, correctness of thinking, feeling and acting.
00:08:11.000 Right.
00:08:11.260 So blessed are the people that hunger and thirst after that.
00:08:14.600 I don't know.
00:08:15.300 Maybe people can relate to that.
00:08:17.220 Maybe there's a way you are that you're like, you know what?
00:08:19.200 This is how I am.
00:08:20.020 But I want to be like this.
00:08:21.700 It's saying blessed are those, man.
00:08:29.380 Okay.
00:08:29.900 Here's what it says.
00:08:32.360 In Matthew 6, 31.
00:08:35.680 It says, I don't think you're, it says this.
00:08:40.260 Therefore, take no thought saying, what shall we eat or what shall we drink or wherewithal shall we be clothed?
00:08:48.640 I like this, man.
00:08:50.100 This is saying like wrapped up in this is a command not to worry, which is rad.
00:08:55.400 Like if you think about that, like it's almost like you feel like you're like irresponsible if you're not worrying.
00:08:59.700 You feel like you're more responsible if you're worrying.
00:09:01.740 And then here's our Lord, the King saying, take no thought.
00:09:06.060 Take no thought saying, what shall we eat?
00:09:08.400 What shall we drink?
00:09:10.400 How are we, you know, where are we going to get our clothes?
00:09:12.920 Why?
00:09:13.480 For after all these things to the Gentiles seek or those who don't know God, those who don't know God, that's what they worry about.
00:09:19.200 But you in this kingdom, don't worry about that because your heavenly father knows that you have need of all these things.
00:09:27.240 But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.
00:09:33.640 Take therefore no thought for tomorrow, for tomorrow shall take thought for the things of itself.
00:09:38.340 Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
00:09:41.080 So that's intriguing, though.
00:09:42.240 But that verse 33, it says, seek ye first the kingdom of God, right?
00:09:46.080 Don't worry about all the stuff in the world that you need.
00:09:49.100 Stop.
00:09:49.600 Seek first the kingdom of God.
00:09:52.000 Like, all that stuff will be added to you.
00:09:54.360 It's not saying you're going to be a millionaire and have private jets and stuff, but like, all your needs will be met.
00:09:58.120 Don't worry about that.
00:09:59.580 People who don't know God worry about that.
00:10:01.420 You don't worry about that.
00:10:02.540 You just seek God, and he'll take it from there.
00:10:04.160 I know we've talked about that before, even about like raising kids and stuff.
00:10:08.260 And like, the main thing is like, teach him to know the Lord.
00:10:10.600 God will take it from there.
00:10:11.940 Like, God will take care of everything from there.
00:10:13.680 But this is the phrase here.
00:10:15.080 Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness.
00:10:18.980 So right there, we're seeing it's not our righteousness, right?
00:10:24.940 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness.
00:10:27.800 It's his righteousness that we're actually hungering and thirsting for.
00:10:31.300 So I just want to kind of elaborate on that point a little bit.
00:10:34.620 But there is something I want to say about this, man.
00:10:37.300 It says, in verse 32, it says,
00:10:40.400 For your heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things.
00:10:43.680 It's an intriguing thing sometimes when I pray.
00:10:46.980 I'm kind of like, God, I don't even know what to pray for.
00:10:49.440 Like, we have this long background now of God taking care of me in a way that I wouldn't even think to ask for.
00:10:57.460 Like, to give me the things that I would have never even thought to ask.
00:11:00.700 I always think of this wild story with Bella when she was little.
00:11:03.940 She was like, if she fell and scraped her knee, and I'd go pick her up, she'd be like,
00:11:08.820 No, I want mommy.
00:11:09.560 I want mommy, right?
00:11:10.720 And, like, I wasn't home a lot.
00:11:12.040 I worked a lot.
00:11:12.840 Jess was home with them all the time.
00:11:15.740 Like, sometimes I'd see her in the morning.
00:11:18.840 Like, on a weekend, like, I was going to be there.
00:11:21.580 And, like, I'd see her.
00:11:22.680 And when she'd see me in the morning, she'd go,
00:11:24.040 Bye, Daddy.
00:11:24.780 Bye, Daddy.
00:11:25.420 And I was like, No, I'm not going anywhere.
00:11:27.180 That was, like, her go-to when she saw me.
00:11:28.720 It was like, Bye, Daddy.
00:11:29.440 She just always associated with, like, I was going to work or whatever, right?
00:11:32.740 Yeah, yeah.
00:11:33.160 And so, like, it just was whatever.
00:11:35.880 You know, it was just like, whatever.
00:11:37.140 But I loved her, and I always wanted to snuggle her and be buddies and stuff.
00:11:39.580 She's, like, super little.
00:11:40.800 And then one day I was watching, I think it was the Raiders versus New England.
00:11:45.240 And I was just chilling on the couch.
00:11:46.640 And she was kind of, like, chilling on the ground and, like, playing with stuff.
00:11:50.080 And then she, like, got up off the ground, like, out of nowhere.
00:11:53.540 And then, like, came over.
00:11:54.840 Like, I was laying on the couch.
00:11:55.740 She laid, like, right next to me.
00:11:57.120 And she literally, like, grabbed my arm and put it over her like this to, like, snuggle me.
00:12:01.600 And then she just, like, fell asleep.
00:12:03.520 And I was like, Damn.
00:12:05.280 Like, I wouldn't, I didn't even think to ask for that.
00:12:08.360 You see what I'm saying?
00:12:09.760 Like, he knows.
00:12:11.020 He knows.
00:12:11.320 Like, we can come to him with this list of things we want.
00:12:13.720 But it's so much lower than, like, what he has in store for us or what he has in mind for us or how he wants to bless us.
00:12:20.200 So the whole praying thing, that kind of had to shift for me of thinking that it was, like, this list of things I'm asking for.
00:12:26.040 And it became more of a thing of just, like, no, Lord, I just want to be lined up with you.
00:12:29.660 Like, let me do whatever you're doing in the earth as opposed to, like, give me this, give me that.
00:12:34.820 Because I realized, like, he was doing things that I didn't even think to ask for.
00:12:38.440 All right.
00:12:40.140 A real good example of what this looks like is Psalm 143.
00:12:46.040 Remember, we're seeking something outside of us.
00:12:48.400 It's not our righteousness.
00:12:49.700 It's his righteousness.
00:12:50.600 Hear my prayer, O Lord.
00:12:54.100 Give ear to my supplications.
00:12:55.600 In thy faithfulness, answer me.
00:12:57.200 And in thy righteousness.
00:12:58.720 This is a good hymn.
00:13:00.120 In thy faithfulness and in thy righteousness.
00:13:03.100 Right?
00:13:03.580 Like, so right from the jump, like, this is what's happening.
00:13:07.120 Who knows if Jesus had this psalm in mind, like, when he was saying this.
00:13:10.020 Who knows?
00:13:10.780 But right away, he's talking about, David's talking about God's faithfulness.
00:13:15.520 Answer me in your faithfulness, God, and in your righteousness.
00:13:19.660 Go ahead.
00:13:20.740 Did you want to say something?
00:13:21.500 Because I didn't mean to.
00:13:22.120 No, I was just, I was thinking of that hymn, Great is Thy Faithfulness.
00:13:25.500 This is where this kind of comes from.
00:13:27.800 And they nail it with music.
00:13:29.380 But continue.
00:13:29.980 Yeah, no, I love that.
00:13:32.200 And enter not into judgment with thy servant.
00:13:35.480 For in thy sight shall no man living be justified.
00:13:38.020 So there's this connection between righteousness and justification.
00:13:42.080 Which who knows if David was getting that deep right there or not.
00:13:45.020 Or if he knew he was.
00:13:46.940 But he knows that he's in need of righteousness of another, right?
00:13:50.900 And he's in expectation that he'll be filled.
00:13:53.260 Like, that's the point of this prayer.
00:13:54.880 He's praying for this in expectation that it will happen.
00:13:57.880 This is a dude hungering and thirsting after righteousness.
00:14:00.020 For the enemy hath persecuted my soul.
00:14:02.740 He smit my life down to the ground.
00:14:04.440 He hath made me to dwell in darkness as those that have been long dead.
00:14:09.700 Therefore, is my spirit overwhelmed within me?
00:14:12.780 Dare I say a heavy spirit?
00:14:14.460 My heart within me is desolate, right?
00:14:17.080 Like, he's not content in this current state.
00:14:19.480 And so that's why he's reaching out to God.
00:14:21.200 He's not content in this current state.
00:14:23.440 He's saying this isn't okay.
00:14:24.580 And I can't stay like this.
00:14:26.000 I need your righteousness.
00:14:26.960 I remember the days of old.
00:14:29.320 I meditate on all thy works.
00:14:30.880 I muse on the work of thy hands.
00:14:33.580 Which is a good thing to do if you're in a bad spot.
00:14:36.560 Like, meditate on the works of God.
00:14:38.320 There is a wild thing when you look at the works of God.
00:14:41.380 And I don't know if everybody listened and believes in space or not.
00:14:45.420 So that might be weird.
00:14:46.360 But like, you know, like there's like supposedly there's like all the planets.
00:14:49.520 Yeah, there's planets and they're all doing their thing.
00:14:52.000 And there's definitely planet Earth, right?
00:14:54.220 We can't, we can all agree on that.
00:14:55.800 So you got planet Earth.
00:14:57.040 And on planet Earth, the deer go into rut every fall, bro.
00:15:00.140 Like at the same time, you can put it on your calendar.
00:15:02.280 The turkeys, they start gobbling.
00:15:04.180 And they kind of go into a rut as well in the spring.
00:15:06.440 Gators rut in the spring.
00:15:07.480 Like there's this whole order of things, man.
00:15:09.580 There's this whole order of things.
00:15:10.620 And there's this whole beauty.
00:15:11.820 And like when you're in the woods or when you're on the farm or where you're just out there,
00:15:15.480 like looking on the work of his hands, it does make you go, wow, man.
00:15:19.820 Whoa.
00:15:20.500 And it makes you understand the character of God, right?
00:15:23.060 So he's doing that.
00:15:24.640 He's doing that.
00:15:25.360 And then he says, I stretch forth my hands unto thee.
00:15:27.780 My soul thirsts after you as a thirsty land.
00:15:30.820 So it's like a land that just hasn't had any rain, right?
00:15:35.060 It's been in drought.
00:15:36.020 And he's thirsting after God and his righteousness the same way like a dry desert land is thirsting for rain.
00:15:42.300 Hear me speedily, O Lord.
00:15:43.780 My spirit fails.
00:15:44.920 Hide not they face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit.
00:15:49.500 He's saying, I'm completely helpless without you.
00:15:52.580 I don't, dude, I don't even know.
00:15:55.480 I don't know.
00:15:56.000 This is heavy to me.
00:15:56.780 And I don't know how many people like really think about this.
00:15:58.760 He's saying, if you hide your face from me, I'm like, then they are in a pit.
00:16:02.860 I think about that.
00:16:04.140 I think that's like, is that, is that what hell is?
00:16:08.180 Is that just distance from God?
00:16:09.540 God has now turned his face from you.
00:16:11.060 Like when Jesus is on the cross and, and he goes, why have you forsaken me?
00:16:14.800 It's like, God turns his face away from his own son or himself.
00:16:18.480 Yeah.
00:16:18.720 It's like, is that hell?
00:16:20.680 Yeah.
00:16:21.220 Yeah.
00:16:21.480 I mean, it's, it's certainly like step one, right?
00:16:24.420 Yeah.
00:16:25.100 Is that you're away from God, but like, I don't know.
00:16:29.820 Sometimes you just have to watch yourself and make sure you're not just like looking for
00:16:34.660 the blessings of God.
00:16:35.660 Because what if like the blessings keep coming, but God's turned from you and you don't even
00:16:39.240 know it.
00:16:39.700 This is a dude who's saying like, I'm not just looking for your blessings.
00:16:43.020 Right.
00:16:44.480 He's saying, uh, hide not your face from me.
00:16:47.340 Let's, I'd be like them to go down in the pit.
00:16:49.040 Like, dude, if you hide from me and I don't have you, I'm gone.
00:16:53.240 I'm completely helpless.
00:16:54.520 I'm completely helpless and hopeless.
00:16:56.820 Right.
00:16:57.580 And so I think it's important that we try to maintain that relationship and that intimacy
00:17:02.800 and that closeness and that connection with him, like that matters.
00:17:06.520 It's not just about the benefits you get from him.
00:17:09.140 It's about him.
00:17:11.340 Hear me speedily.
00:17:12.340 Oh Lord.
00:17:12.700 My spirit fails.
00:17:13.660 Hide not that face from me.
00:17:14.700 Let's I be like them unto them that go down into the pit.
00:17:18.620 Cause me to hear thy loving kindness in the morning for indeed, do I trust cause me to
00:17:25.060 know the way we're in.
00:17:26.120 I should walk for, I lift up my soul unto thee.
00:17:28.480 So there's a lot happening in that verse too, man.
00:17:30.780 You know, I'm not like pulling these passages.
00:17:32.680 I know it's come up before where I talk about how like God will teach you directly.
00:17:36.200 It's just these passages come up because it's all through the scripture.
00:17:40.160 These, the context of like God communicating with you and teaching you directly.
00:17:45.380 Cause me to hear.
00:17:47.580 You can say that to God.
00:17:49.260 God caused me to hear.
00:17:50.920 I want to, I want to hear from you.
00:17:52.480 Cause me to hear your loving kindness in the morning.
00:17:54.760 And the morning thing is another one, bro.
00:17:56.840 That like, if you study out like a lot of great men of God, they went after God hard first
00:18:02.460 thing in the morning, dude, early, early, their best hours, like their best hours.
00:18:07.960 I think there was a story of John Wesley where he was out late and, uh, not too late, but
00:18:13.820 probably like, you know, eight or nine.
00:18:15.700 I don't remember the story exactly, but he was with a King and he was leaving the dinner
00:18:20.260 and like, nobody leaves the dinner.
00:18:22.180 Right.
00:18:22.540 Like if you're, if you're in the King's presence, like an earthly King.
00:18:25.600 So he's like bouncing.
00:18:26.760 Right.
00:18:26.980 So he, so he's leaving and they're like, whoa, whoa, whoa.
00:18:28.940 Nobody leaves the King's presence like that.
00:18:30.700 And he's like, yeah, I've got an appointment in the morning with a greater King than him
00:18:34.080 and bounced.
00:18:35.720 It was just making the point that like, he gets with God, like first thing in the morning
00:18:39.860 and nothing stops that.
00:18:41.660 Like nothing stops that.
00:18:43.000 And like great dudes.
00:18:44.040 I think Martin Luther was like that.
00:18:45.520 Um, you could go ahead and say all the terrible stuff about Martin Luther.
00:18:49.360 Nobody's saying there wasn't.
00:18:50.460 I'm just saying that like dudes that know God, they get after him first thing in the
00:18:55.060 morning.
00:18:55.440 They don't put it off till later.
00:18:56.700 And I know for me personally, like a lot of times I'm fried in the afternoon anyway,
00:19:02.000 like I'll get super fried.
00:19:03.320 And so like, that's not, I'm not going to give that time to God, but I'm kind of half
00:19:06.760 paying attention, half not.
00:19:08.700 Um, so there's there, I'm just bringing that up to say there's kind of, there's a lot of
00:19:12.940 this in the scripture.
00:19:13.560 You talk about getting after God in the morning.
00:19:15.280 David alludes to it a lot for in thee, do I trust cause me to know, cause me to know.
00:19:21.720 So he says, cause me to hear.
00:19:23.160 And he says, cause me to know, right?
00:19:25.460 Again, we're just alluding to God teaching you directly, talking to you directly.
00:19:31.720 What is it though?
00:19:32.640 Cause me to know the way wherein I should walk guide me, right?
00:19:36.100 The scripture says like those who are led by the spirit of God, those are the sons of
00:19:41.400 God.
00:19:41.680 This is what this is saying.
00:19:43.080 Cause me to know the way wherein I should walk.
00:19:45.280 He's saying, guide me, guide me.
00:19:47.140 Like, I don't want to go my own way.
00:19:48.480 Me and you were on this rad adventure and I want you to guide me.
00:19:52.280 I don't want to go off the trail.
00:19:53.800 I don't want to end up in some crazy place.
00:19:56.120 Guide me, Lord.
00:19:57.240 Is this, is this like spirit realm stuff?
00:19:59.200 Like, cause he's telling him, I remember when you were saying, uh, about Elisha, he's saying,
00:20:03.720 cause him to see, like, like, let him see more.
00:20:06.340 And he's saying, let me hear more.
00:20:07.500 Let me know more.
00:20:08.260 Is he asking to like hear more into the spirit realm?
00:20:11.540 No more into the spirit, like where God exists.
00:20:13.760 That's what, this is what David's talking about.
00:20:15.720 I mean, I would look at it like that.
00:20:17.540 Yeah, I would.
00:20:18.980 Because like, that was a heavy prayer for me in the beginning.
00:20:23.220 I was like, Lord, I want to know what it's like in the spirit realm.
00:20:25.340 I want to know what it's like where you live.
00:20:27.220 Right.
00:20:27.540 And I feel like after that, then I had clarity on like things on the earth.
00:20:31.780 Whereas like, if you're just praying for like clarity on things of the earth, you may be
00:20:36.240 more inclined to be like, should I be a Republican or a Democrat?
00:20:39.880 Whereas if you just go after God, then all of a sudden you see like, oh, the whole thing's
00:20:44.440 a scam.
00:20:45.280 Like, like as soon as you enter into that discussion, you lose.
00:20:48.060 It's not, it's not, if you're just asking for wisdom in the natural realm, you're going
00:20:52.060 to pick which side seems more wise to you.
00:20:54.080 But if you have spiritual wisdom, you're more like, oh yeah, the whole thing is a scam.
00:20:59.040 Okay.
00:20:59.940 Like, I don't know.
00:21:00.780 For me, that's, that's kind of how that started was like going after him, trying to understand
00:21:06.620 what is kind of silly now, like a little kid.
00:21:08.820 But like, I was just like, what's it like where you live?
00:21:11.580 Like, I want to know.
00:21:12.900 Yo bro, where are you from?
00:21:14.960 It's like that.
00:21:16.420 I was like, I just want to know what it's like there, man.
00:21:18.460 I just want to know you.
00:21:19.560 You know what I mean?
00:21:21.020 So yeah.
00:21:22.140 And then the things of the earth just kind of looked a lot clearer, man, like a lot
00:21:26.440 clearer.
00:21:26.760 The scripture became clearer, assessing things happening in the world seemed clearer.
00:21:31.800 Things just became clear.
00:21:33.220 Like you just had a clearer understanding of your situation, people in your life, you know,
00:21:40.020 bigger, bigger picture events, everything, you know?
00:21:44.960 But so he says, cause me to hear and cause me to know because I lift up my soul unto you.
00:21:50.220 And he's saying, my soul belongs to you.
00:21:53.580 So like, like I'm with you, come hell or high water, I'm with you.
00:21:57.800 So you, so you teach me, deliver me, oh Lord, from my enemies.
00:22:01.480 I flee unto thee to hide me.
00:22:05.460 That's powerful too.
00:22:07.160 Teach me to have flawless doctrine.
00:22:11.880 Nope.
00:22:12.400 That's not what it says.
00:22:13.500 That's not what it says, man.
00:22:14.360 And so, so here it is again, this is, here we go again, where it's a man of God saying,
00:22:18.800 God, you teach me, but it's not doctrine.
00:22:21.080 It's not, he's not saying, teach me flawless doctrine so I can win debates.
00:22:24.880 He's not saying like, teach me the best stuff that I can do so that I'm right about everything.
00:22:31.080 It's not, it's nothing like that.
00:22:32.520 The context of our kingdom just isn't like that.
00:22:34.840 Teach me to do thy will.
00:22:37.100 Like, like teach me how to live.
00:22:38.640 Like that's what I'm saying.
00:22:39.380 And sometimes people like try to argue about how a church service would be.
00:22:42.740 I'm like, I don't know.
00:22:43.580 And I kind of don't care.
00:22:44.600 I don't see anything in the scripture that's saying like, which way a church service should
00:22:48.220 be.
00:22:48.640 Everything in the scripture pertains to life.
00:22:50.680 It pertains to how you're living.
00:22:52.580 All, all of these things that are being said, it has to do with your life.
00:22:55.580 When you're at the Walmart, when you're at the gas station, when you're at the coffee
00:22:59.200 shop, when you're at like wherever you are, it has to do with your life.
00:23:02.800 Like how you're living your life.
00:23:04.520 Not like just your doctrine or how you celebrate on Sunday morning or whatever.
00:23:08.320 It's about your life.
00:23:09.380 So he says, teach me to do your will for you are my God.
00:23:14.780 Thy spirit is good.
00:23:15.860 So there's David in the Old Testament talking about the Holy Spirit.
00:23:18.480 Thy spirit is good.
00:23:19.980 Lead me into the land of uprightness.
00:23:22.400 So even this thing, teach me to do thy will.
00:23:24.460 He's saying righteousness, teach me righteousness, teach me how to live right.
00:23:29.700 Quicken me, oh Lord, for thy name's sake, for your righteousness.
00:23:32.580 There it is again.
00:23:33.780 For your righteousness sake, bring my soul out of trouble.
00:23:36.520 In thy mercy, cut off my enemies and destroy all them that afflict my soul because I belong
00:23:43.100 to you because I am your servant.
00:23:45.900 I live on behalf of you.
00:23:47.440 So that's heavy.
00:23:50.100 That's heavy.
00:23:50.600 That's a good, I like that one.
00:23:53.400 I think Psalm 143 is a great example of a dude hungering and thirsting after righteousness.
00:23:57.500 So let's look at Romans 6, 11 through 13, because it kind of elaborates on this a little more.
00:24:05.700 I might take a pit stop in John 6, 35.
00:24:07.940 Likewise, reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through
00:24:17.100 Jesus Christ our Lord.
00:24:18.320 I don't think that's 6, 35, but I love that.
00:24:21.200 What is this?
00:24:21.880 What am I pulling up?
00:24:22.320 I love where your heart's at today, dude.
00:24:23.960 You got like, if you want to kind of do your own thing, I'm with that.
00:24:27.180 Yeah, you know, this is a straight Bible by Top Lots.
00:24:29.240 I'll be your sidekick today, bro.
00:24:30.540 Let me pull that up.
00:24:31.400 Romans.
00:24:31.760 No, no, I got it.
00:24:32.820 Hold on.
00:24:33.160 I got John 6, 35.
00:24:34.380 Maybe I didn't put it in the notes.
00:24:35.460 That's my bad.
00:24:36.000 If you want to do Romans 6, 11 through 13, what does it say here?
00:24:40.580 Oh, okay.
00:24:40.940 Yeah.
00:24:41.100 This is Jesus saying, Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life.
00:24:46.040 He that comes to me shall never hunger.
00:24:48.720 And he that believes on me shall never thirst.
00:24:51.000 So we're right back to it, man.
00:24:52.720 Those who hunger and thirst after righteousness.
00:24:54.960 Well, who are the ones that won't hunger and won't thirst?
00:24:57.440 The ones that come unto Jesus, right?
00:25:01.460 So it's not something inside of us.
00:25:03.420 We're desperately seeking something outside of us, his righteousness.
00:25:08.560 Ultimately, we're seeking God.
00:25:09.960 Like, ultimately, that's what this is.
00:25:11.400 You're not going to get his righteousness without getting him.
00:25:14.360 Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life.
00:25:16.300 He that comes to me shall never hunger.
00:25:17.880 And he that believes on me shall never thirst.
00:25:22.000 All right.
00:25:22.420 Now we're in Romans 6, 11 through 13, which all these passages, you know, they're just going
00:25:26.540 to kind of tie together.
00:25:27.760 So Romans 6, 11 goes like this.
00:25:34.000 It goes, likewise, reckon you also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God
00:25:41.020 through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
00:25:43.940 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body.
00:25:46.760 So the only things that reign is kings, like kings reign, right?
00:25:50.440 Don't let sin be a king inside you.
00:25:53.740 Don't let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body that you should obey it in the lust thereof.
00:25:58.920 Stop living like that, for your body controls what you're lusting after.
00:26:03.420 Neither yield you your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin.
00:26:07.600 So there's this connection between unrighteousness and sin.
00:26:11.560 But instead, yield yourselves unto God as those that are alive from the dead, and your members
00:26:19.240 as instruments of righteousness unto God.
00:26:22.420 So the scripture talks a lot about, and the next verse says, for sin shall not have dominion
00:26:28.480 over you, for you are not under the law, but under grace.
00:26:31.400 That's why sin won't have dominion over you, because you're not living for your own righteousness.
00:26:38.680 You're living for his righteousness.
00:26:40.460 That is your only righteousness.
00:26:42.800 But I like this statement, as those that are alive from the dead.
00:26:45.840 Like the scripture goes to great lengths to explain that like if we're alive in Christ,
00:26:49.740 we're dead to our old self.
00:26:51.640 We're dead to our old self.
00:26:53.700 And I don't know, this thing that says, as those that are alive from the dead, like bro,
00:26:57.780 imagine if you died and you got to come back from the dead.
00:27:01.400 You know what I'm saying?
00:27:03.600 Think about like your life right now.
00:27:05.380 You're doing all this stuff.
00:27:06.960 You got the jujitsu.
00:27:08.180 You got the Chick-fil-A.
00:27:09.660 You got like all the other cool stuff.
00:27:12.120 You got the Matt coin.
00:27:14.560 You got the tweeter.
00:27:16.640 You know, you got the gator.
00:27:18.600 You got the raven.
00:27:20.340 This gator.
00:27:23.100 And then like poof, you're gone.
00:27:25.040 You know what I mean?
00:27:26.460 And then imagine if you got to come back, dude.
00:27:28.680 Can you imagine like how special and meaningful all the little things would be that maybe you took for granted before?
00:27:35.140 Like all the little things, all the little interactions with your kids, with your wife, with just regular people you don't even know.
00:27:42.940 Imagine how meaningful all those encounters would be, dude.
00:27:45.840 Yeah.
00:27:46.020 Like if somebody spilled like a drink on all the stuff here, it would be just so terrible.
00:27:50.540 No, but I mean, you know, special.
00:27:51.700 Yeah, special interactions would be like so meaningful.
00:27:56.880 It would be so meaningful if you were back from the dead.
00:28:00.000 You know what I mean?
00:28:00.780 He's saying, yeah, live like that.
00:28:02.560 Live like that.
00:28:05.060 Live like you got a second chance or you're on like borrowed time.
00:28:07.660 Like I got a buddy that buys Bitcoin, right?
00:28:09.380 And then he's like, I've already sold off enough to cover what I initially invested.
00:28:17.080 So now I'm playing with the house's money on the Bitcoin.
00:28:19.880 It's kind of like that, man.
00:28:23.180 It's kind of like you have something that was never owed to you.
00:28:27.820 You're kind of playing with the house's money.
00:28:29.740 Like go for it.
00:28:30.900 Go for it.
00:28:35.760 So there's another thing wrapped up in this, which is just that like your desires change, right?
00:28:41.540 They don't vanish.
00:28:42.400 They switch to something new.
00:28:44.040 So you're not like twiddling thumbs.
00:28:46.640 This is a hard thing.
00:28:47.340 I think church people sometimes too, like they get converted or whatever.
00:28:50.640 They start going to church and then they're just like, well, what do I do now?
00:28:57.320 I know I, I know I can't cuss.
00:28:58.780 I can't drink.
00:28:59.420 I can't smoke.
00:29:00.140 I can't chew, you know, can't burp and fart in public.
00:29:03.780 And I know there's all these things I can't do.
00:29:06.460 And it's like, you've got, no, you got to, there's a thing you got to go for.
00:29:10.420 Stop.
00:29:10.820 You can't take your foot off the gas and just try to be neutral in life.
00:29:13.540 It doesn't work like that.
00:29:14.580 It doesn't work like that.
00:29:15.500 Now it's time to hunger and thirst after righteousness.
00:29:18.040 Pursue something.
00:29:19.080 Pursue something.
00:29:19.720 Pursue something, which we would say is God.
00:29:27.000 So neither yield to sin, but yield to God, right?
00:29:29.980 So it's a changing direction.
00:29:31.280 You're not just twiddling thumbs.
00:29:32.320 All right.
00:29:32.420 Let's look at two Corinthians five, 14 through 21.
00:29:35.600 I hope I have this one.
00:29:37.080 Oh, geez.
00:29:37.560 I'll just go to it.
00:29:38.420 For the love of Jesus Christ, Christ constraineth us because we thus judge that if one died
00:29:45.340 for all, then we are all dead.
00:29:46.900 So we're back to this concept.
00:29:48.280 You're dead.
00:29:48.980 You've been dead.
00:29:50.940 And that he died for all that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves,
00:29:56.660 but unto him which died for them and rose again.
00:29:59.260 Doesn't that make sense?
00:30:00.300 You remember when I was a little kid, the cartoons would be like, if a guy saved your
00:30:03.740 life in the cartoon, then the guy who got his life saved, like follow that guy around
00:30:07.300 the rest of the cartoon and like owed him everything.
00:30:09.640 You know what I'm talking about?
00:30:10.440 Yeah.
00:30:10.660 It's like that.
00:30:11.280 It's like that.
00:30:12.820 He died for all that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto
00:30:16.640 him which died for them.
00:30:17.700 So in other words, my life's not my own now.
00:30:20.560 Wherefore, henceforth, know we no man after the flesh, yea, though we have known Christ
00:30:24.740 after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.
00:30:28.160 Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature.
00:30:32.460 Old things are passed away.
00:30:34.300 Behold, all things are become new.
00:30:37.300 That's what we were just saying.
00:30:39.160 And all things are of God, who has reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given
00:30:45.120 to us the ministry of reconciliation, to wit that God was in Christ, reconciling the world
00:30:49.720 unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them, and has committed unto us the word
00:30:55.060 of reconciliation.
00:30:56.720 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ.
00:30:59.020 Staggering.
00:30:59.780 Staggering statement.
00:31:00.560 Like an ambassador, like a king for a nation.
00:31:03.900 We have ambassadors to other nations and stuff.
00:31:05.780 But yeah, we're an ambassador for this nation, for this kingdom called the kingdom of God.
00:31:11.480 And we are ambassadors for Christ.
00:31:14.120 Staggering.
00:31:14.760 That's back to what we brought up last week, too, about the, you are the salt, you are the
00:31:18.500 light.
00:31:19.340 Like, you are the representative of that kingdom.
00:31:23.140 He says, my kingdom is not of this world.
00:31:24.960 So you're a representative of a kingdom that's not of this world.
00:31:28.960 You're an ambassador.
00:31:29.880 We pray you in Christ, Steve, be reconciled to God.
00:31:34.540 Why?
00:31:35.040 Because he hath made him sin.
00:31:37.680 Because he hath made him to be sin for us who knew no sin.
00:31:41.700 Why?
00:31:42.140 So that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
00:31:47.740 You see what I'm saying?
00:31:48.720 It's not our righteousness.
00:31:50.160 That's all I'm trying to, like, elaborate.
00:31:52.100 Maybe taking a long way to make this point.
00:31:54.180 I just want to make it clear.
00:31:54.860 It's like, it's not our righteousness.
00:31:56.660 It's his righteousness.
00:31:58.700 All right.
00:31:58.880 Can we look at, did I give you the three passages in John 6, 35, 4, 13, and 14?
00:32:04.620 Yeah.
00:32:04.860 So what is righteousness again?
00:32:06.460 Can you, what was the definition of that?
00:32:07.820 Let's go back.
00:32:08.920 Let's go back.
00:32:09.540 It's a state of him is who is as he ought to be.
00:32:13.400 The way in which man may attain a state approved by God.
00:32:16.480 That's kind of has this secondary meaning to it that we, that we pull in.
00:32:20.140 It's like a New Testament doctrine.
00:32:21.680 But it means like a de facto good, like the standard of what it should be.
00:32:27.160 Yeah.
00:32:27.440 I think like the easiest, like, like I like simple definitions is like right living.
00:32:33.920 Like right living.
00:32:35.620 Like think of all, like I was saying, like think of these encounters you have and maybe
00:32:40.180 sometimes you have an encounter and you go, oh, I shouldn't have handled that like that.
00:32:43.860 The way you think you should have handled it.
00:32:45.860 It's like there's emotions get wrapped up in it.
00:32:47.820 So you don't handle it like that.
00:32:48.920 But I just feel like the implication of the word is a description of before the fall of
00:32:54.140 like this, like how humans were made rather than how we behave now.
00:33:00.240 I'm just trying to like really understand.
00:33:02.260 It probably is something wrapped up in that.
00:33:03.680 Yeah.
00:33:05.540 Hmm.
00:33:06.300 Okay.
00:33:06.880 Yeah.
00:33:07.180 But, but nevertheless, we have that example in Christ now, whatever it was with Adam,
00:33:11.560 whatever it was before the fall.
00:33:12.840 Well, who knows, man, there's a lot of questions in that, bro.
00:33:16.980 You got, you got a dude who's capable of face-to-face interaction with God.
00:33:20.560 Well, that's the scripture here.
00:33:21.640 Also the second Corinthians makes me think about like, uh, I guess what you call a backslider.
00:33:26.680 Somebody who, who, uh, knew and then goes back.
00:33:31.680 What do you mean it made you think about that?
00:33:33.840 I think it's verse 17 here.
00:33:38.260 Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature.
00:33:41.340 Old things are passed away.
00:33:42.500 Behold, all things are new.
00:33:45.460 But we see a lot of times people, they're on fire or whatever it is.
00:33:50.100 And then, then they're gone.
00:33:51.860 So it's, it's like, well, what happened there?
00:33:53.980 And what kind of transgression is that?
00:33:56.580 If they're on fire and then they're not, it's called burnout.
00:33:59.040 And the solution is you add more logs, right?
00:34:03.040 It's dudes that take their foot off the gas.
00:34:04.660 But, but in all reality, this is a, this is kind of the sketch of source Rex thing about it, bro.
00:34:09.740 It was like, when you see like burnout in a church person, this is weird for me.
00:34:15.080 And it's a, and it's a topic to me because it's something I like dealt with in the beginning.
00:34:18.320 I remember like people in church old timers saying like, Hey, just take it slow, man.
00:34:22.380 Don't, don't burn out.
00:34:23.360 We've seen a lot of people come to church and they just fizzle out after a while.
00:34:27.520 And I remember thinking like, that's crazy, bro.
00:34:29.400 Like I could never imagine.
00:34:31.200 All I know is the closer I get to God, the more and more on fire I am, the more and more
00:34:35.280 I grow, the more and more I go after them.
00:34:37.460 And I think slowly, but surely what I observed with people, man, is a lot of people in church
00:34:42.020 weren't necessarily like getting after God.
00:34:44.620 They were doing the church game.
00:34:47.520 Again, no kidding.
00:34:48.460 You're going to burn out.
00:34:49.320 You're just, you're just like excelling at the church game and you're liking the praises
00:34:54.020 of the people saying, Oh man, you're doing great with that kid's ministry.
00:34:57.500 Hey, way to go.
00:34:58.420 Keep up the good work with the music ministry.
00:35:00.700 Hey, outstanding.
00:35:02.160 Now you're doing the college age group with the kids.
00:35:04.440 Good job.
00:35:05.440 Hey, I saw you.
00:35:06.320 And, uh, you didn't just like watch worship the other day.
00:35:09.140 You put your hands in the air.
00:35:10.300 Maybe you did a little tongue talking and you know, maybe you even like ran around with the
00:35:13.820 flag and wow, you're really on fire.
00:35:15.640 It's like, okay, but what were they on fire for?
00:35:17.560 Cause if you're on fire with that fake ass system, you're going to burn out.
00:35:21.660 Like, what are we talking about?
00:35:23.100 And I'm not saying a man of God who's really genuinely got a heart on fire for God can't
00:35:27.040 burn out.
00:35:27.320 I'm not saying that.
00:35:28.320 I mean, certainly all the activity of life can cause burnout.
00:35:31.300 So you got to like stay on it.
00:35:33.360 You got to stay on it.
00:35:34.460 So I suppose, yeah, if you don't stay on it, you could be genuinely going hard after God
00:35:38.660 and then just burn out after a while, man.
00:35:40.340 Cause you're just, I mean, I think that's what the parable of the sower is, right?
00:35:43.300 It gives us these examples of people who got it and then kind of the cares of this
00:35:47.960 world kind of took them away.
00:35:49.900 They were, they were shallow people.
00:35:51.580 They didn't have any depth.
00:35:52.480 So there was nowhere for the route to go.
00:35:54.500 So there is these other ways, but I'm just saying we need to like differentiate between
00:35:58.360 people who were on fire for God and people who are on fire for that system.
00:36:01.740 Cause those are totally different.
00:36:03.620 I mean, I think that these people might think that they're on fire for God, but they're burning,
00:36:07.800 they're burning the wrong logs.
00:36:09.360 That's all they know.
00:36:10.140 That's all they know though.
00:36:11.020 Right, right, right.
00:36:11.660 And it's like, well, who doesn't get burned out?
00:36:13.140 Like how many pastors do you meet that aren't burned out?
00:36:15.980 Yeah.
00:36:20.360 Okay.
00:36:21.480 Wait, so did we read, did we read 635?
00:36:25.680 I don't know.
00:36:26.680 Let's see.
00:36:26.980 Yeah, I read that already.
00:36:27.920 I read that already.
00:36:28.520 I'm the bread of life.
00:36:29.200 He that comes to me shall never hunger and he that believes on me shall never thirst.
00:36:32.660 Well, that way we got it fresh.
00:36:34.040 Now let's look at 4, 13 and 14.
00:36:37.800 I don't know.
00:36:38.420 We got some air condition noise in here.
00:36:41.020 All right.
00:36:42.740 Okay.
00:36:43.200 So we got, uh, is that going to be nasty in the...
00:36:46.140 I don't know.
00:36:46.680 Chad, can we hear that?
00:36:48.540 Probably.
00:36:49.880 It doesn't matter.
00:36:51.080 There's nothing I can hear about it.
00:36:51.960 Okay.
00:36:52.100 Watch this.
00:36:52.620 John 4, 13 and 14.
00:36:54.040 Jesus answered and said unto her, this is the woman at the well.
00:36:56.700 Whosoever drinks of this water shall thirst again, but whosoever drinks of the water that
00:37:01.460 I shall give him shall never thirst.
00:37:03.660 Here we are back to this thing, man.
00:37:05.060 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness.
00:37:07.040 How do you satisfy it?
00:37:08.720 Whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give shall never thirst, right?
00:37:12.420 He shall be satisfied is what it says in Matthew 5.
00:37:15.700 But the water that I shall give...
00:37:17.640 This is wild.
00:37:20.260 But the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into
00:37:25.200 everlasting life.
00:37:26.140 It's no longer this thing from the external that you're like, then that's really what we
00:37:31.280 need to make clear on this.
00:37:32.480 It's not an external.
00:37:33.380 It's not this thing that you have to go to like this, boom, that comes within you.
00:37:38.000 His righteousness now is within you, right?
00:37:40.860 He gives you his spirit.
00:37:42.420 It's welling up in you.
00:37:43.980 Now you have water to provide.
00:37:45.800 Just like the whole concept of you're the salt and you're the light, right?
00:37:48.840 Same thing.
00:37:49.440 Now you have water that's welled up in you and now you're able to take it.
00:37:53.260 Now you're able to do something and distribute with it.
00:37:55.220 Let's look at 7, 37 through 39 in John.
00:37:59.920 Same thing, man.
00:38:02.140 Seven.
00:38:03.800 Okay.
00:38:04.260 In the last day, this is an interesting study.
00:38:06.340 Pretty sure it's tabernacles, but I can't remember off the top of my head, but this is
00:38:08.900 an interesting study, like exactly what went down at the feast.
00:38:11.840 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried saying, if any man thirst,
00:38:17.020 let him come unto me and drink, right?
00:38:18.820 Remember the context is, blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness for
00:38:23.100 they shall be filled.
00:38:25.420 How?
00:38:26.380 Let him come unto me.
00:38:27.680 That's what Jesus says.
00:38:29.120 Which feasts are they talking about in the last day?
00:38:32.660 I think it's tabernacles.
00:38:34.720 The feast of tabernacles.
00:38:35.340 I don't know, though.
00:38:36.080 I haven't studied out the feast for a while.
00:38:37.700 I mean, there was three that all the males had to present themselves at, right?
00:38:40.300 It was Passover, Pentecost, and tabernacles, which is an intriguing study, dude, which dude's
00:38:45.000 a lot smarter than me can make really interesting studies because like Passover and Pentecost
00:38:50.080 had their fulfillment.
00:38:51.000 Like Jesus was the Passover lamb.
00:38:53.340 Pentecost did happen with the Holy Spirit shed forth on the church.
00:38:56.640 And so there's a lot of different views on like exactly how does it go down with tabernacles
00:39:00.540 when that one is fulfilled.
00:39:02.400 I'm sure Lisa would know.
00:39:04.060 She would, yeah.
00:39:04.880 But it's like, I think Chuck Missler had rad stuff on it too.
00:39:07.580 I could be totally butchering this, but I think that tabernacles, it's an extended period
00:39:11.800 of time.
00:39:12.340 I know that where you're like out, like the way people celebrate it today is like intense
00:39:16.220 with no roof, like where you can see the stars, it's open boots or tabernacles signifying
00:39:21.820 like when they came out of Egypt and they were in tabernacles or boots in the wilderness.
00:39:26.380 So some people call it the Feast of Tabernacles.
00:39:28.480 Some call it the Feast of Boots.
00:39:29.920 But I think there's other like days wrapped up in it too, specific days.
00:39:34.680 This seems urgent.
00:39:35.600 If he's crying, he's making his plea to these people at this time.
00:39:38.820 Yeah.
00:39:38.980 And I think that's why I think that's why I think it's tabernacles, but I, but because
00:39:44.160 it's the last day of the Feast.
00:39:45.720 So it's been multiple days.
00:39:47.220 But the last day, yeah, he's pleading with him.
00:39:50.300 Great point.
00:39:50.800 He cried.
00:39:51.260 He's pleading with him saying, if any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink.
00:39:54.820 He that believes on me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers
00:39:57.960 of living water.
00:39:58.760 But this fake he of the spirit, this is, this is so wild, dude.
00:40:04.000 This is so wild.
00:40:04.800 I would never want to ever read this and not be like shook by it.
00:40:08.060 This fake he of the spirit, which they that believe on him should receive for the Holy
00:40:11.420 Ghost was not yet given because that Jesus was not yet glorified.
00:40:15.460 So he's making this promise that anybody that believes on him, as the scripture has said,
00:40:20.680 is he's not making this up.
00:40:21.680 This is, this is recorded in the scripture already.
00:40:23.600 Remember this whole thing ties together.
00:40:25.020 We've been grafted into that tree.
00:40:26.560 He didn't come to destroy any of this.
00:40:29.360 This all still stands.
00:40:30.960 He's a furtherance of all this.
00:40:33.300 He that believes on me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers
00:40:37.180 of living water.
00:40:38.440 This fake he of the Holy Spirit.
00:40:40.540 So like he that believes on him, he has the Holy Spirit flowing out of him now.
00:40:44.860 So this is a wild concept, man.
00:40:46.960 This is wild.
00:40:48.320 But I'm just making the point that we get filled by him.
00:40:52.640 That's the point.
00:40:53.480 It's his righteousness.
00:40:54.240 It's actually him directly that satisfies.
00:41:00.800 So, so that's what we're going for.
00:41:02.320 It's not something in ourselves.
00:41:03.700 All right.
00:41:04.120 Are we on to Philippians three, seven through nine?
00:41:08.660 We can be.
00:41:11.260 I can probably get there pretty quick.
00:41:12.660 You didn't put this one in the notes, but that's all right.
00:41:20.220 I know I did.
00:41:21.020 I even spelled out Philippians because I, because I put P-H-I-L and then I was like, yo, he's
00:41:24.900 going to think it's Philemon.
00:41:27.140 So I typed it out.
00:41:28.720 All right.
00:41:29.040 I got it.
00:41:29.540 Three, seven.
00:41:30.120 But what things were gained to me, those I counted loss for Christ.
00:41:34.440 This is Paul speaking.
00:41:36.520 Yea, doubtless.
00:41:37.240 And I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus, my Lord,
00:41:41.920 for whom I have suffered the loss of all things and do count them but dung.
00:41:46.460 That's.
00:41:47.380 Yeah.
00:41:48.560 That I may win Christ.
00:41:50.200 So this is a dude who's lost all things.
00:41:52.360 He's not a Christian because of the benefits he gets from society.
00:41:56.400 So it's not like, oh, yeah, I get these benefits from Christ.
00:42:00.020 So that's why I'm serving him.
00:42:00.880 He says, dude, I've lost everything.
00:42:03.120 And Paul really did.
00:42:04.340 Paul really did.
00:42:05.620 The more you look at his life, he says crazy things right here, man.
00:42:09.980 For whom I've suffered the loss of all things and do count them but dung so that I may win
00:42:14.300 Christ.
00:42:14.860 Nothing else matters.
00:42:15.800 And be found in him, not having my own righteousness, which is of the law.
00:42:21.300 That's what we've been talking about.
00:42:22.940 So what righteousness is it?
00:42:24.140 If it's not of the law, they were taught this whole time, the law, the law, the law.
00:42:27.680 You live like that and then you're righteous.
00:42:29.420 No, not that righteousness, man.
00:42:31.600 I threw all of that away.
00:42:33.120 I crushed in the law.
00:42:34.280 Paul crushed in the law.
00:42:35.300 He was like the best teacher of the law.
00:42:36.900 He was, he had like a very successful life, right?
00:42:39.780 He says, no, man, I threw it all away.
00:42:41.940 I threw it all away.
00:42:43.040 Uh, cause I don't want to be found in him, not having my own righteousness, which is of
00:42:49.860 the law.
00:42:50.380 I want that righteousness.
00:42:51.820 He says, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness, which is of God
00:42:56.260 by faith.
00:42:57.120 This is wild, man.
00:42:59.120 Right?
00:42:59.600 Like that's our righteousness.
00:43:00.940 We get it from God.
00:43:02.080 It's his righteousness by faith.
00:43:05.020 Then he says the craziest thing, dude.
00:43:06.920 This might be the craziest verse that I may know him.
00:43:09.400 Okay.
00:43:09.880 That makes sense.
00:43:10.600 Righteousness, which is of God by faith that I may know him.
00:43:13.340 That makes sense.
00:43:14.360 The power of his resurrection makes total sense, dude.
00:43:17.520 I mean, that's a staggering thought, but like the power of his resurrection, like, like
00:43:22.900 exactly what happened when Jesus rose from the dead.
00:43:25.440 Yeah.
00:43:25.560 I want to know about the power of his resurrection.
00:43:27.480 Then he says the most staggering thing, bro.
00:43:29.420 In the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death.
00:43:38.680 He wants to know the fellowship of the sufferings with Christ.
00:43:42.680 Who does that, dude?
00:43:44.740 Who does that?
00:43:45.440 We don't, we don't really see that today.
00:43:46.880 We talk a lot about, yeah, people are Christians for all the benefits they get, but he actually
00:43:50.580 wants to fellowship with Jesus in his sufferings.
00:43:53.140 And so like, if you think about the sufferings of Christ and that he would say he wanted to
00:44:00.900 fellowship in it with him, like when my dad died, uh, they made a, they made a decision
00:44:05.920 to pull a plug in, uh, my brother went and sat in the room, like when they pulled the plug.
00:44:14.020 And, uh, I just remember him like telling me how it all went, like the, you know, the end
00:44:17.980 of his breathing and stuff.
00:44:19.500 And, um, I don't have like, uh, I don't really have like regrets really about anything.
00:44:27.940 And I don't necessarily like, um, I don't know how I feel about all this.
00:44:31.440 Maybe this would be like the closest thing I have to a regret, but I kind of wish I would
00:44:35.080 have went and maybe been in the room too.
00:44:38.260 And I just think it's not like my brother said anything or did anything.
00:44:42.940 He just was there to fellowship in his sufferings.
00:44:45.700 You see what I'm saying?
00:44:47.720 And it just feels like Paul is saying something that's like that, dude.
00:44:52.020 He's saying like, if you went through that down here, Lord, I want to go through that
00:44:56.040 too.
00:44:56.320 I want to be there with you in that.
00:44:58.400 Like, if you experienced that, I want to experience that because I want to be close to
00:45:02.600 you.
00:45:03.340 And it wasn't like my brother could do anything in the fellowship of his sufferings with my
00:45:06.940 dad, you know, but he was just there with him in it.
00:45:10.120 And I just think that that's on a completely other level than most of us know about.
00:45:19.160 So not to get too sappy about everything, but yeah, something that's something to think
00:45:23.020 about.
00:45:23.220 Like, does, does your dad even, was he even aware of that?
00:45:26.200 Does it even matter?
00:45:27.060 I don't know, bro.
00:45:27.640 I always think that dude, I'm always thinking like, you don't know, like somebody who's in
00:45:34.840 the room and is like in a vegetable state or whatever, I'm always assuming they know
00:45:38.500 what's going on.
00:45:39.460 I'm always assuming like that their spirit is aware of what's going on.
00:45:43.600 Like I would never want to be in a room like that and say, oh man, he's really doing bad.
00:45:47.480 It looks bad for him.
00:45:48.700 Looks like he's not going to make it.
00:45:50.400 Like I would never want to do, I would be like, no, no, no.
00:45:52.440 This is somebody who can hear me.
00:45:54.320 Right.
00:45:54.660 Just because they can't communicate and say, oh, he doesn't have brainwaves.
00:45:58.320 It doesn't matter.
00:45:59.000 He's got a spirit.
00:46:00.360 So I don't know.
00:46:01.420 I don't know.
00:46:03.020 I don't know.
00:46:03.760 But like at some point, like he's laying on the thing and they came in and pulled the
00:46:08.160 plug, you know?
00:46:12.740 That's rough.
00:46:13.440 If you don't mind, why, why were you there?
00:46:15.780 Were you in a different state or something?
00:46:17.340 Yeah.
00:46:17.960 Yeah.
00:46:18.380 Okay.
00:46:20.260 I'm not, that's what I'm saying.
00:46:21.300 I could have flown back.
00:46:22.240 Like I could have flown back.
00:46:23.100 I mean, they were in California and I was in Florida.
00:46:24.840 And so it was a long, so my brother, you know, it was like down the road.
00:46:27.500 Yeah.
00:46:27.780 So he like went, but I think, yeah, they told me and I was just like, we were kind of distant
00:46:32.480 anyway, we had been distant for a long time anyway.
00:46:35.420 So it's a heavy thing, man.
00:46:36.900 I know.
00:46:37.380 But at the time I didn't think that, like, you just don't, that's what I'm saying.
00:46:40.120 Like, I get, like, I guess, you know, I would say I don't, I don't really don't have regrets
00:46:43.980 about my life.
00:46:44.900 I've done a lot of bad stuff.
00:46:46.800 Yeah.
00:46:47.300 I've done like a lot of bad stuff, but I just kind of taken it like, yeah, that's just
00:46:50.540 part of the game, dude.
00:46:51.660 Like, that's just how this thing goes on the earth, man.
00:46:53.600 I'm like, you know, like I have a lot of stuff.
00:46:56.180 I look back things I did do and things I didn't do.
00:46:59.240 I'm like, oh, well, like, that's one where I'm like, yeah, dude, if I could get in the
00:47:03.160 time machine.
00:47:06.280 Well, hey, Epstein, Epstein logs are talking about time machines now.
00:47:09.800 So who knows?
00:47:10.500 I would go back and I would go in the room with them and fellowship in his sufferings.
00:47:14.220 That's all I'm saying.
00:47:15.100 That's all I'm saying.
00:47:15.820 I think there's a bond in that.
00:47:17.040 It's like, and I think that's what Paul's saying, dude, there's like this bond in that.
00:47:20.620 That's not like any other bond.
00:47:22.620 I think people say that when they're in war together, like if they're in the trenches
00:47:25.280 in war, they have this bond for the rest of their life that they can't have with anybody
00:47:29.340 else, you know, because they bonded in sufferings.
00:47:32.020 Yeah.
00:47:33.740 So there's that.
00:47:35.180 All right, let's get on to the next verse.
00:47:39.700 Merciful.
00:47:44.120 We're back in Matthew 5.
00:47:45.520 We're on verse 7.
00:47:46.560 Yeah, I don't, I mean, if we're 45 minutes in in one verse, dude, this may.
00:47:50.620 It'll still be a while.
00:47:52.400 I thought it wasn't going to go Jude vibes, dude, where it was only like three or four
00:47:55.800 verses a week, but I don't know.
00:47:57.360 Like, what do you have to deal with all this, right?
00:47:59.320 Like you have to unpack this.
00:48:01.060 It's just like, oh yeah, that sounds cool.
00:48:04.080 I don't know.
00:48:04.560 I just want to unpack it.
00:48:05.620 Jesus is talking about everything right now.
00:48:08.160 He really is, man.
00:48:09.380 He really is, dude.
00:48:10.300 If you had just a sermon on the mount, like, like I'm saying, it crosses into so many other
00:48:15.880 stories.
00:48:16.340 It's, it fills in so many puzzle pieces and ties into so many other things.
00:48:19.980 But like, this is the culture of our kingdom.
00:48:22.120 If you just had this, you could get down pretty good.
00:48:24.460 Do you think he wrote this down before he delivered it?
00:48:27.100 Or did he, uh, I love what you're saying.
00:48:29.340 No.
00:48:29.880 So this is intriguing.
00:48:31.020 He gets his disciples.
00:48:32.060 He brings them to him, right?
00:48:34.000 He saw the masses.
00:48:35.080 He brings them to him.
00:48:36.380 This is the dude, Matthew.
00:48:37.380 Like, I've heard people talk about it before that he would have been trained in shorthand
00:48:42.500 because he was a, he was a, um, he took tribute.
00:48:45.300 He was like a customs official until he would be able to write.
00:48:48.880 So yeah, I, it seems that it's very likely that Jesus was watching the dude, Matthew,
00:48:53.140 like, you know, writing along.
00:48:55.660 So no, no, what I mean is like, did Jesus prepare this sermon beforehand?
00:49:03.880 Like, I don't think so, bro.
00:49:05.000 Or he's just like winging it.
00:49:06.200 I don't know.
00:49:06.620 That's a wild question.
00:49:07.700 I never picture him with some written, not to mention like, it's like they had big pens
00:49:11.640 and like pieces of paper laying around.
00:49:13.480 You know what I'm saying?
00:49:14.040 Like they had parchment and it was probably a big deal.
00:49:16.500 Sure.
00:49:17.800 I don't think so, dude.
00:49:19.040 I don't, I don't know, man.
00:49:20.320 Maybe, maybe like you got, you got stuff written there, but this is like, like, you know,
00:49:24.140 to keep you in order.
00:49:25.880 Like I, you want to talk about these things in this order.
00:49:28.080 Like Jesus might've just been flowing.
00:49:29.940 Yeah.
00:49:30.100 I think he was just letting it rip.
00:49:31.740 Yeah.
00:49:31.840 That's crazy.
00:49:32.520 Yeah.
00:49:32.700 I think he's just letting it rip.
00:49:33.980 I mean, Paul, he's writing letters.
00:49:35.640 Everything we're reading, we're reading from Paul, he's writing letters.
00:49:38.880 So he's clearly sitting down, writing it out.
00:49:41.760 Jesus is just letting it rip and somebody is recording it.
00:49:45.080 That's nuts.
00:49:45.920 Well, it looks like in Matthew's case, somebody is recording it.
00:49:48.240 Like Matthew was recording it.
00:49:50.120 I think that, um, you know, Mark, Luke and John, it's just a,
00:49:54.140 thought that like somebody at a later time set down to write it under the guidance of
00:49:58.840 the Holy spirit though.
00:49:59.640 Not like they're just trying to remember, remember one of the things is the Holy spirit
00:50:02.880 will teach you all things and bring things to your memory.
00:50:06.000 So like they're writing it doesn't matter if it was however many years ago, the Holy
00:50:10.480 spirit's bringing it to their memory.
00:50:12.340 And so it's God breathed as they're writing it.
00:50:14.960 So I don't know.
00:50:16.000 I think this dude, I don't think he like wrote a sermon and had it in his hand.
00:50:18.980 I think he's just letting it rip.
00:50:21.800 Okay.
00:50:22.200 So we're moving on blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy.
00:50:30.100 And this gets a little touchy with my co-host, but, uh, we're just going to dig into this
00:50:34.800 one.
00:50:35.360 So there's certain people that will obtain mercy.
00:50:37.540 Who are they?
00:50:38.140 They are those who are merciful.
00:50:40.300 So let's talk about this word forgiveness real quick.
00:50:42.940 I just pulled up some simple definitions.
00:50:44.640 Forgiveness is letting go of bitterness, anger, or the desire for revenge.
00:50:49.900 That's literally what it is.
00:50:54.040 Forgiveness.
00:50:54.600 Cause we're going to get into forgiveness.
00:50:55.860 Like in the, in, uh, chapter six, I think, man, forgive others, you know, as Christ has
00:51:01.300 forgiven you.
00:51:03.680 Uh, so there's this connection between forgiveness and being merciful.
00:51:06.760 Merciful would be like, uh, not giving someone the punishment they deserve or to help one
00:51:12.040 afflicted or seeking aid.
00:51:13.520 Right.
00:51:13.800 That would be like mercy and action.
00:51:15.340 Blessed are the merciful.
00:51:16.320 The punishment they deserve, but, and then not doing it.
00:51:19.720 Boom.
00:51:20.240 Interesting.
00:51:21.300 Very interesting.
00:51:22.700 Words to live by according to our King, actually.
00:51:25.220 So let's look at like, I think of this passage and I'm like, there is no other story.
00:51:30.540 There's no other way to unpack this word merciful or this idea of merciful or blessed are the
00:51:36.780 merciful for they shall obtain mercy without this passage right here in Matthew 18, dude.
00:51:42.200 This is a, this is a, um, this is a parable.
00:51:44.960 Like I've gone back to a lot in my life, dude.
00:51:47.660 I've just like, just for context, like just for context of my life or even like in dealings
00:51:52.520 at work where I just remember people who got certain blessings, but didn't necessarily
00:51:58.000 pass those blessings on.
00:52:00.880 And it's just, I don't know.
00:52:01.920 It's a thing I've thought about a lot, man.
00:52:03.400 So let's go to 1821.
00:52:05.740 All right.
00:52:06.460 Then came Peter to Jesus and said, Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me?
00:52:10.980 And I forgive him till seven times.
00:52:13.480 Jesus saith unto him.
00:52:14.740 I say not unto you until seven times, but until 70 times seven, like unlimited.
00:52:21.560 Let me explain it to you, pistol Pete.
00:52:23.940 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven, like a certain King, which would take account of his
00:52:29.480 servants.
00:52:30.380 And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him 10,000 talents.
00:52:35.420 But for as much as he had nothing to pay, his Lord commanded him to be sold and his wife
00:52:41.260 and children and all that he had in payment to be made, which is really the debt that we
00:52:48.940 owe God.
00:52:49.900 Like, like what we owe him for living in rebellion against him.
00:52:55.260 We can't make the payment.
00:52:56.720 It's his righteousness.
00:52:58.120 We can't pay it.
00:52:59.160 It's a, it's a debt we can't pay.
00:53:00.420 That's the same spot.
00:53:01.160 This dude's in the servant, therefore fell down and worshiped him saying, Lord, have
00:53:05.600 patience with me and I will pay you all.
00:53:08.500 Then the Lord of that servant was moved with compassion and loosed him and forgave him the
00:53:13.480 debt.
00:53:16.180 But the same servant went out and found one of his fellow servants, which owed him a hundred
00:53:21.560 pence, not Mike Pence, a hundred pence.
00:53:24.860 So this is different than the 10,000 talents.
00:53:27.600 This is much less.
00:53:28.560 He owed 10,000 talents.
00:53:29.820 This dude owes him way less.
00:53:31.520 And he laid hands on him and took him by the throat saying, pay me what you owe me.
00:53:36.580 Which guy would you rather be?
00:53:38.200 The guy that's like goes at his throat or the guy who said, no, man, I'll have compassion
00:53:42.040 on you.
00:53:42.380 Don't sweat it.
00:53:43.700 You don't have to answer right now.
00:53:45.360 And his fellow servant fell down at his feet and besought him saying, have patience with
00:53:50.820 me and I'll pay you all.
00:53:52.000 And he would not, but went and cast him into prison till he should pay the debt.
00:53:57.700 So when his fellow servants saw what was done, they were very sorry and came and told unto
00:54:02.340 their Lord all that was done.
00:54:04.280 Then his Lord, after that, he had called him, said unto him, oh, you wicked servant, I forgave
00:54:09.420 you all that debt because you desired me.
00:54:13.360 Should not thou also have had compassion?
00:54:16.340 Same word for mercy.
00:54:17.300 That's the same word for mercy in verse seven and in Matthew five, seven, should not thou
00:54:23.440 have also had mercy on your fellow servant, even as I had pity on you and his Lord was
00:54:30.000 wroth and delivered him to the tormentors till he should pay all that was due unto him.
00:54:34.860 So likewise shall my heavenly father do also unto you.
00:54:37.520 If you, from your hearts, forgive not everyone, his brother, their trespasses.
00:54:43.540 Isn't that wild?
00:54:45.140 Doesn't that like so clear, like any more than any words clearly gives us a picture and an
00:54:50.820 understanding of what mercy looks like in the context is like, that's you.
00:54:57.520 That's you.
00:54:58.800 That's you.
00:54:59.640 And the master is Jesus.
00:55:01.940 And so he's like, bro, you don't like, look what I forgave you for.
00:55:06.420 Now you're going to go out there and live in the earth and not forgive other people and
00:55:09.720 not be merciful to them.
00:55:11.060 Look at all the mercy I've given you.
00:55:12.800 Like, like, look at all this mercy I've given you.
00:55:15.500 And now you're going to go out there and not extend mercy to others.
00:55:20.700 Do you see what I'm saying?
00:55:22.160 Like, this is this wild thing, man.
00:55:23.860 And like I said, it takes a lot of different, uh, and it's kind of embarrassing.
00:55:27.980 It's kind of embarrassing.
00:55:28.900 Well, did the others ask for forgiveness?
00:55:30.840 Who?
00:55:31.700 I don't know.
00:55:32.180 Did the second guy ask for forgiveness from?
00:55:35.500 We know he did.
00:55:36.420 He begged for it.
00:55:37.160 Yeah.
00:55:37.520 He begged for it.
00:55:38.180 Right.
00:55:38.440 Yeah.
00:55:39.000 He owed him a hundred pence.
00:55:39.900 He said, please, please, man, I'll pay you back.
00:55:42.560 Just give me some time.
00:55:43.680 He just, he said, just give me some time.
00:55:46.440 What'd he say?
00:55:48.440 He said, have patience with me and I will pay you.
00:55:51.040 No, that's not good enough, man.
00:55:52.940 Isn't that so wild?
00:55:53.780 This dude just got forgiven for 10,000 talents, right?
00:55:58.500 This dude only owes him a hundred pence.
00:56:00.000 He says, Hey man, just be patient.
00:56:01.300 I'll get it back to you.
00:56:02.060 He says, no, isn't it's like such a stark contrast to the mercy that he was shown compared
00:56:07.060 to the mercy that he's not willing to show others.
00:56:09.360 But there's also this admittance of wrongdoing on this other guy's side.
00:56:13.580 He's like, yeah, yeah.
00:56:14.140 I do owe you this money.
00:56:15.620 Be patient with me.
00:56:16.320 Like, forgive me.
00:56:17.680 I do owe you that.
00:56:19.560 Right.
00:56:20.060 You see how it's like a two-way street.
00:56:22.200 You are getting squirmy here.
00:56:24.320 I'm not getting squirmy.
00:56:24.980 I'm getting real with you.
00:56:26.140 Yeah.
00:56:26.580 So he, yeah.
00:56:27.280 He's not saying, I don't owe you the debt.
00:56:29.480 Yeah.
00:56:29.660 And he said, he's actually saying like, yeah, dude, I'm in the wrong here.
00:56:32.760 Uh, but, but I owe you, but give me some time and I'll make it right.
00:56:38.320 So there are, so he's operating in reality.
00:56:40.240 The other guy is just being very harsh with him.
00:56:42.980 Yeah.
00:56:44.160 That's, and that's not what we do.
00:56:48.040 I was like, I don't really think I owe you.
00:56:50.700 And be like, yo, put him in jail.
00:56:51.940 Doesn't matter.
00:56:52.640 Look how much you've been forgiven for.
00:56:54.160 Look how merciful.
00:56:55.000 Why are you doing that face?
00:56:55.980 Because I don't think you, I don't think you forgive somebody who doesn't even know,
00:56:59.160 who doesn't even know what they did wrong.
00:57:00.620 You forgive everybody.
00:57:01.120 I don't think so.
00:57:02.060 I think that person has to, they have to first understand that they did wrong.
00:57:06.000 Okay.
00:57:06.220 That's good.
00:57:06.900 But your job is to forgive and be merciful, regardless of their reaction.
00:57:11.560 Like that's irrelevant.
00:57:13.140 The whole life, the whole reality of your life is in light of you and God.
00:57:17.680 It's not in light of you and everybody else.
00:57:20.440 So are we called to like, I'm going to forgive you.
00:57:22.580 All right.
00:57:22.760 You owe me a hundred dollars.
00:57:23.940 Let's say.
00:57:24.480 Okay.
00:57:24.940 And I go, Hey man, time to pay me a hundred dollars.
00:57:27.660 And you go a hundred dollars.
00:57:29.700 I don't owe you a hundred dollars.
00:57:31.120 And I go, I forgive you.
00:57:34.140 That's crazy.
00:57:35.580 That's our kingdom.
00:57:36.660 No, that's, that's our kingdom is crazy.
00:57:39.000 Yes.
00:57:39.380 But you know, because you haven't learned anything.
00:57:41.060 Because you look at God and you go, man, you forgave me for so much.
00:57:44.120 Like what's the a hundred bucks.
00:57:45.260 You'll take care of it for forgiveness.
00:57:47.360 Like I can't, I can't get forgiveness from Jesus unless I ask for it.
00:57:50.840 Unless I'd be like, yo man, yeah, I am screwed up.
00:57:53.100 Like I'm asking now.
00:57:54.220 So you're really nasty about this.
00:57:55.800 No, it's a real, it's really clear, man.
00:57:58.320 I think, I think what I'm saying is also really clear.
00:58:00.440 I'm not saying it's not, I'm just saying you got to get used to this upside down kingdom
00:58:04.140 that you're a part of now.
00:58:05.160 It's an upside down kingdom.
00:58:06.740 People are going to watch this and they're going to be like Sturgeon, Heppner, and then
00:58:11.240 this argument that Heppner had.
00:58:13.300 No, they're going to look at it and go, this story is so cut and dry.
00:58:16.800 You've been forgiven 10,000 talents.
00:58:19.060 Are you really going to sweat the guy that owes you a hundred bucks?
00:58:21.500 But it's not that cut and dry.
00:58:23.040 Can we read it again?
00:58:24.440 Yeah.
00:58:25.340 Yeah.
00:58:25.580 So let's, from where the guy asked him, when he asked the other servant, and his fellow
00:58:35.060 servant fell down at his feet and besought him saying, have patience.
00:58:39.040 He fell down at his feet and besought him.
00:58:41.380 I don't know what besought means, but it seems like he's asking for forgiveness.
00:58:44.940 Yeah.
00:58:45.200 Begging, right?
00:58:46.040 So what are you saying?
00:58:47.060 If somebody doesn't do that, then they don't deserve mercy or forgiveness.
00:58:52.020 I think that that's a very clear example of somebody understanding, yeah, dude, I'm in
00:58:57.660 the wrong.
00:58:58.440 I owe you and I can't make it right, but I understand.
00:59:03.120 And I think, you know, when it comes to money, money's a little different for people.
00:59:06.520 It's like, well, then maybe you could be like, all right, pay me later.
00:59:08.960 Or you're forgiven of this, whatever, however you want to deal with it.
00:59:12.500 But to put him in jail, a dude that's like, yo, I'm clearly wrong.
00:59:15.500 I know I'm wrong and I'm sorry, but I don't have the means.
00:59:19.560 I don't have anything to give back.
00:59:21.480 You're saying if he, if he acts like that, well, yeah, it's like, cause now you're
00:59:25.180 understanding, like, you can't go to Jesus.
00:59:27.700 I can't go to God and be like, uh, forgive me for my sins.
00:59:31.540 As I like watch pornography, I can't like pray and then continue this in this wrong.
00:59:38.240 You know what I'm saying?
00:59:38.780 It's like, oh, I have watched.
00:59:40.080 Technically, technically not to disagree, but you can, as long as you're fighting against
00:59:43.580 it, you're like, this is so hard.
00:59:44.980 I'm fighting against it.
00:59:46.280 I can't do this in my own strength.
00:59:47.740 God, I need you to give me the strength, whether it's porn, Oxycontins, an affair, like whatever
00:59:52.540 it may be.
00:59:52.800 But there's gotta be, there has to be like an admittance on your part.
00:59:56.480 There has to be that confession almost of like understanding.
00:59:59.220 Cause now like, you can't do that with your children either.
01:00:02.220 I can't be like, yeah, I forgive you.
01:00:03.860 It's like, well, what did you do wrong?
01:00:05.140 You got to explain, explain to me that you understand.
01:00:07.360 So that way we can move forward.
01:00:08.840 Otherwise, like, what is this?
01:00:09.920 So that's no, that's, you're totally entitled to that understanding of it, bro.
01:00:13.600 So you're just saying like, yeah, if somebody does you wrong and doesn't admit it, you don't
01:00:17.060 owe them mercy.
01:00:18.580 Yeah.
01:00:18.920 Yeah.
01:00:19.080 There's a, and that's, that, that goes around a lot.
01:00:21.200 And I, you know, I get accused of that as well.
01:00:24.180 That's right now.
01:00:24.920 Oh, this one's touching home.
01:00:26.400 That's why you get nasty now.
01:00:28.320 No, I'm just explaining.
01:00:29.440 Shots fired.
01:00:29.920 We got a 5, 1, 3, 2, 4 on an 8, 1, C.
01:00:32.380 We got a shot fired.
01:00:34.420 Well, yeah, no, like mercy is for people who, listen, if someone's wronged another and
01:00:39.380 they come back and they'd be like, hey man, like that was in, yeah, that happened.
01:00:44.320 Can we, can we get over this?
01:00:45.720 I'd be like, absolutely.
01:00:46.800 There's no grudge.
01:00:47.520 Okay.
01:00:47.720 But if you change then when they don't do that, that means that guy owns you.
01:00:51.400 That means if you set out to be merciful, but you let somebody act to you another way
01:00:56.460 that stops you from living and acting the way you want to live, he owns you now.
01:01:00.500 And that's true as well.
01:01:01.580 I'm not going to, you know what I'm saying?
01:01:02.720 And my life is in light of the reality of me and God, whatever that guy did, none of
01:01:06.540 my business.
01:01:07.260 God will deal with that guy.
01:01:08.740 Agreed with that as well.
01:01:09.620 Okay.
01:01:09.880 Okay.
01:01:10.360 So we're tight.
01:01:11.260 So I like to think about this, that like, uh, moving on, just nothing happened here.
01:01:16.640 So, um, I don't know.
01:01:19.080 It like, like the bigger story is like somebody who's gaining mercy from somewhere above.
01:01:24.620 He's passing on mercy somewhere below, like this passing on thing.
01:01:28.820 Right.
01:01:29.460 Yeah.
01:01:29.700 Like, I think your boy, the, um, you said this about your buddy, the Tim foil hat.
01:01:33.660 Oh yeah.
01:01:34.140 Yeah.
01:01:34.340 Sam Tripoli.
01:01:34.920 Sam Tripoli is a dude who like people helped him out, like in the game when he was coming
01:01:39.800 up and he's a guy who's intentional to help out guys below him now.
01:01:43.640 Yeah.
01:01:43.760 Yeah.
01:01:43.900 That's like the, that's like this perfect picture of the kingdom of God.
01:01:46.500 He's doing it like he's living that that's really what this story is about, man.
01:01:50.260 It's like, look what you've received.
01:01:52.100 Pass that on now.
01:01:53.700 Pass that on.
01:01:56.240 Okay.
01:01:56.620 Let's look at, um, okay.
01:02:00.720 This is wild.
01:02:01.600 I got to say this, dude.
01:02:02.860 I got to say this.
01:02:03.700 John two 23.
01:02:04.920 Do I have that in the notes?
01:02:05.900 I probably don't have that in the notes.
01:02:07.140 You do.
01:02:07.540 I do.
01:02:07.880 Okay.
01:02:07.980 John two 23, 25.
01:02:15.960 Now, when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover in the feast day, many believed in his name
01:02:20.420 in the feast day.
01:02:22.720 Another one.
01:02:23.900 This one was Passover, right?
01:02:26.060 Uh, many believed in his name when they saw the miracles, which he did, but Jesus did not
01:02:31.080 commit himself unto them because he knew all men.
01:02:34.760 Um, this is a totally loaded three verses right here.
01:02:39.540 And I'm not even going to deal with like the main context of this.
01:02:42.640 Uh, what does this mean?
01:02:49.120 Uh, I'm not even going to unpack that.
01:02:50.860 I'm just going to say that Jesus did not commit himself unto them because he knew all men and
01:02:56.300 needed not that any should testify of man for he knew what was in man.
01:03:01.220 Um, like, I don't know.
01:03:06.100 I think it's kind of comes back to like what you're saying is like, you look at the guy,
01:03:08.960 he's still a scoundrel.
01:03:10.080 I'm not going to give him mercy.
01:03:11.400 Jesus looked at me and said, this dude's a scoundrel and I'm still going to die for him.
01:03:17.440 That's what I'm, that's all I'm saying about this.
01:03:19.240 This is why I pulled this passage into here.
01:03:21.000 It's just because it's this crazy thing, dude.
01:03:23.160 It's like, he knew me and he still thought I was worth dying for.
01:03:27.120 Yeah.
01:03:27.720 Like he, like he still thought I was worth extending mercy.
01:03:32.500 Well, that, that mercy, shouldn't that mercy always be open though?
01:03:36.100 But it's up to that person to like, they've got to want to receive it.
01:03:40.700 Like we talk about this all the time.
01:03:42.420 God's always there.
01:03:43.560 It's a great point.
01:03:44.260 Yeah.
01:03:44.620 But you have to receive that.
01:03:46.580 And to receive that, you've got to, there's something inside of you that's got to happen.
01:03:50.560 Yeah.
01:03:50.740 But so if that person rejects it because they don't want it, that's on them.
01:03:53.920 But I still have to be who I have to be in the kingdom of God.
01:03:56.920 That's all I'm saying.
01:03:59.340 Point taken.
01:04:01.280 Okay.
01:04:01.720 Let's see here.
01:04:03.020 Let's look at Matthew 5, 43 through 48.
01:04:08.460 Like I said, really just that main story, 18, 21 through 35, like that is the perfect picture
01:04:13.380 of mercy, right?
01:04:15.600 Like mercy was extended to you.
01:04:18.300 And then like you didn't extend it.
01:04:20.200 That's just a great picture of what we should be living like.
01:04:22.640 We should be extending mercy to others the same way Jesus extended mercy to us.
01:04:27.100 So that's the main point of that.
01:04:28.800 All right.
01:04:29.020 5, 43 through 48.
01:04:33.520 You have heard that it had been said, thou shall love thy neighbor and hate thy enemy.
01:04:39.020 Dude, maybe we're getting into this topic a little more.
01:04:41.660 We didn't even know.
01:04:43.140 But I say unto you, love your enemies.
01:04:46.160 Bless them that curse you.
01:04:47.440 And don't ask for mercy.
01:04:51.020 Do good to them that hate you and pray for them which despitefully use you and persecute
01:04:56.440 you.
01:04:57.900 This is wild, dude.
01:04:59.100 Love, bless, do good, and pray all for enemies.
01:05:03.960 That you may be the children of your father, which is in heaven.
01:05:07.060 So that's why.
01:05:08.200 That that is because.
01:05:10.880 Why would I do that for my enemies?
01:05:12.920 So that you may be the children of your father, which is in heaven.
01:05:15.580 Because he makes his son to rise on the evil and on the good.
01:05:19.860 And he sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
01:05:24.480 He doesn't say, oh, only if you're deserving of it.
01:05:27.120 He says, I'm sending it anyway.
01:05:28.320 For if you love them which love you, what reward have you?
01:05:32.440 Do not even the publicans the same?
01:05:34.620 And if you salute your brethren only, what do you more than others?
01:05:37.740 Do not even the publicans?
01:05:39.580 Be ye therefore perfect.
01:05:41.740 And that word means like mature, wanting nothing, wanting nothing necessary to completeness.
01:05:47.660 Right?
01:05:48.940 Be therefore mature.
01:05:51.580 Complete.
01:05:52.220 Of full age.
01:05:53.080 Even as your father, which is in heaven, is complete, mature, of full age.
01:05:58.020 See what we're getting compared to now?
01:05:59.940 He's saying, you act like that because you're a child of him.
01:06:03.160 That's what he's like, so you're like that.
01:06:05.740 Isn't that wild?
01:06:07.060 Regardless of what they're like.
01:06:08.340 He said, this is for enemies, dude.
01:06:09.640 This is including people that despitefully use you.
01:06:13.640 Despitefully use you and persecute you.
01:06:15.760 He says, yeah, for them, you don't change how you act.
01:06:18.460 You don't change it.
01:06:19.180 You remain a child of the king and you act how he acts.
01:06:23.580 Okay, we're rolling on.
01:06:24.760 We're rolling on.
01:06:26.600 Now we're in verse eight, which is a wild verse, man.
01:06:31.380 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
01:06:34.280 So I don't know.
01:06:34.900 For me, I'm like.
01:06:39.920 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
01:06:42.540 So like, so who are the people that shall see God?
01:06:47.320 The people with letters behind their name?
01:06:49.620 Because sometimes I think you had to stop and look at this stuff, man.
01:06:52.400 Is that what we really think?
01:06:53.480 Are we like, yeah, man.
01:06:54.260 The people who will see God, it's the guys with letters behind their name.
01:06:57.040 It's the guy at the cemetery school.
01:06:58.500 It's the guy that went to Bible college.
01:07:01.400 It's the guy with the microphone on Sunday morning.
01:07:04.300 That guy will see God.
01:07:05.820 That's the qualifications to see God, to know God, for God to appear to a man,
01:07:09.940 for God to be able to recognize and communicate with a man.
01:07:13.320 He's got to be, he's got to have, he's got to be like very intellectual, man.
01:07:17.500 And he's got to be very educated.
01:07:19.160 Nope.
01:07:19.700 It's none of those things, man.
01:07:21.620 It's those who are pure in heart.
01:07:24.420 So seeing isn't an issue of like knowledge or education or intellect.
01:07:31.260 It's a, it's a, it's a, uh, issue of purity.
01:07:34.860 Right.
01:07:35.380 Isn't that wild?
01:07:36.660 Well, are you aware of, I pulled down this book here, decoding Cody.
01:07:40.220 This is like the telepathy tape kids.
01:07:41.620 So this guy, he's a pastor, uh, Joseph and Franco, he works with nonverbal autistic kids
01:07:48.080 and they do spelling, which is, uh, they'll point to a board and slowly spell out words
01:07:54.140 and phrases and stuff to communicate after years of being like taught how to do this.
01:07:58.980 These kids are reporting that they go to this place called a hill and some of them say that
01:08:04.700 they see Jesus.
01:08:07.980 That's wild.
01:08:08.800 Yeah.
01:08:08.980 It's, it's a crazy thought because these are kids that physically can't, I mean, they really
01:08:14.740 can't sin.
01:08:16.180 They can't do stuff.
01:08:17.560 They're trapped in the, trapped in their own body.
01:08:19.820 And they're almost like very, they are very pure of heart because they don't have these
01:08:23.480 kinds of earthly desires as like other people there, but they're here and they're claiming
01:08:28.900 this.
01:08:29.180 It's just, it's interesting in conjunction with that verse specifically is what I, what
01:08:32.840 I think of.
01:08:33.900 Yeah.
01:08:34.740 When I hear that.
01:08:35.660 Yeah.
01:08:36.120 That's an interesting connection, man.
01:08:38.700 It's weird, weird, weird stuff.
01:08:40.420 So the pure in heart, man, if we look at like, uh, they're going to see God, right?
01:08:44.200 So that's, we got two things.
01:08:45.260 We got pure in heart and then they're going to see God, right?
01:08:48.080 So look at this in 6, 22 and 23.
01:08:50.920 It's intriguing how much of the Sermon on the Mount, like cross references each other.
01:08:54.280 So as the days and weeks and who knows, maybe months by the time we get to these passages
01:08:57.600 in chapter six, but like, they're going to keep tying together.
01:09:00.980 So this says, uh, in 6, 22 and 23, the light of the body is the eye.
01:09:07.080 So now we're dealing with eyes and seeing again, the light of the body is the eye.
01:09:11.080 If therefore that I be single, the whole body shall be full of light.
01:09:16.140 We talked about this before recently on an episode.
01:09:18.600 I don't remember why it came up, but, but if your eye shall be evil, that whole body shall
01:09:24.060 be full of darkness.
01:09:24.860 If therefore the light that is in the, is darkness, how great is that darkness?
01:09:29.120 So there's this connection between the light of the body is the eye.
01:09:33.640 And if the eye is single, that's good.
01:09:36.400 But if the eye is the opposite of single is evil.
01:09:39.800 So if the eye is after something else, it's evil, right?
01:09:43.860 I think we were talking about like Jesus plus, you know, there's a lot of Jesus plus in the
01:09:47.560 world today where it's like, yeah, Jesus is cool.
01:09:49.720 He's an ascended master.
01:09:50.880 He's a prophet.
01:09:51.500 He's a teacher.
01:09:51.940 He's whatever, but you know, he's not God and there's Jesus plus these other things.
01:09:56.460 Or maybe there's even some people are like, he is God, but you also got to worship these
01:09:59.860 other things too.
01:10:02.200 So, um, so it's almost like the pure heart is like the single eye.
01:10:08.120 You could say, if that makes sense, right?
01:10:10.920 Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God.
01:10:12.940 So let's unpack this word pure, right?
01:10:14.760 It's the Greek word katharos and just a simple blue letter Bible search will tell you that
01:10:19.080 it means like clean, clear, purified by fire, a vine cleansed through pruning, free from
01:10:26.240 everything false, free from everything false.
01:10:30.360 Like this is a big part of it.
01:10:31.440 I feel like right here, free from everything false.
01:10:34.160 They're sincere and they're genuine.
01:10:36.100 So like a sincere, genuine person who's just ruthlessly straight with God at the very core
01:10:41.700 of their being, that's the one who's going to see God.
01:10:44.900 And it's interesting too, that like one of these, uh, definitions of the word is like clear
01:10:48.800 and it's the same word that's in revelation 21, 18, where it's talking about new Jerusalem
01:10:53.240 that descends out of heaven.
01:10:54.800 And it's like the clear glass, the clear glass in new Jerusalem.
01:10:59.120 They're clear like that.
01:11:00.920 Like, I think we would also use this word.
01:11:02.740 They're transparent.
01:11:03.400 Like, I think your boy, the guy, uh, JT loves JC.
01:11:06.680 You guys were talking to him and he said, uh, Matt doesn't have a poker face.
01:11:11.300 Is that what he said?
01:11:12.180 Yeah.
01:11:12.480 And I thought like, that's a, you never watched the episodes.
01:11:15.100 You're not paying attention.
01:11:16.300 I watch him, bro.
01:11:17.860 You guys are like the best show on TV, man.
01:11:20.640 Anyway, he said that he's like, yeah, Matt doesn't seem to have a very good poker face.
01:11:23.680 And I was like, that's like a very high compliment, man.
01:11:26.480 It's like, yeah, I am pretty transparent.
01:11:30.500 It's not always good.
01:11:31.780 It's not always fun.
01:11:32.720 I hate what you're saying right now.
01:11:33.260 If you're dealing with like employees or, uh, not necessarily employees the most, but a boss
01:11:38.200 or just like, I don't know these other situations in life.
01:11:40.960 Yeah.
01:11:41.320 It's not necessarily wonderful, but that is a great way to be, man.
01:11:44.260 Like, yeah, there's, I have nothing to hide here, man.
01:11:46.120 I'm sincere.
01:11:47.040 I'm genuine.
01:11:48.100 I just want the Lord.
01:11:49.300 And I think that's blessed me a lot.
01:11:50.880 Like in my seeking him and trying to understand his word is I never came to the word of God
01:11:56.840 saying like, I need to line up with what my denomination tells me, or I need to line up
01:12:01.260 with whatever I got taught in cemetery school, or I need to line up with whichever the cool
01:12:05.400 thing is on the internet today of like, what's cool for Christianity.
01:12:08.540 Like I never did that.
01:12:09.940 I just was like, Lord, WTF is going on on the planet.
01:12:14.400 What's going on in me?
01:12:15.680 I just want answers.
01:12:16.760 I don't care what they are.
01:12:17.600 I don't have a dog in the fight.
01:12:18.860 I could care less what the truth is.
01:12:20.800 I just need to know the truth.
01:12:22.580 You see what I'm saying?
01:12:23.380 And I think that is somebody who will get at God, man.
01:12:28.180 I really believe that.
01:12:29.200 Like, like those are the people that get at God, the ones that don't have a hidden agenda,
01:12:33.180 the ones that are, that are transparent, the ones that are clear, the ones that are just
01:12:37.060 coming to them, sincere, genuine, and honest and say, God, I just got to know you.
01:12:41.680 So another thing is that it's pure in heart, right?
01:12:43.540 This is internal thing, right?
01:12:44.960 Because there's a, Jesus is going to shred the Pharisees as we get a little later in
01:12:49.200 Matthew for looking pure on the outside.
01:12:51.900 So we got, so we have to make sure that we understand this is saying, this is saying they're
01:12:54.640 pure in heart, like truly pure.
01:12:57.660 Pharisees are like stained glass, huh?
01:12:59.900 You could say that.
01:13:00.900 But this is a dude to where like God will appear or allow to be seen.
01:13:05.660 Or you could say, this is who God will reveal himself to.
01:13:09.000 So all the learning in the world can't change that.
01:13:11.580 All of the cemetery school or Bible college or letters behind your name, which I, which
01:13:15.940 I love, like I love reading sermons.
01:13:19.060 I love reading even like doctrine.
01:13:21.400 I love, I love reading everything pertaining to the kingdom of God.
01:13:26.560 But this is saying that who he reveals himself to those who can see him or those who are pure
01:13:30.640 in heart, like that's the core of it.
01:13:33.780 If we could look at Matthew 13, 10 through 17, and then we're wrapping up, we're getting
01:13:37.820 close to the end.
01:13:43.100 We're getting close.
01:13:43.940 And the disciples came and said unto him, why speakest thou unto them in parables?
01:13:49.580 Yo, this is heavy.
01:13:50.980 He answered and said unto them, because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of
01:13:55.920 the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
01:13:59.280 So he's, okay.
01:14:00.140 So notice the difference between you and them, because it is given to you to know the mysteries
01:14:05.340 of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
01:14:10.040 For whosoever has to him shall be given and he shall have more abundance.
01:14:14.300 But whosoever has not from him shall be taken away, even that he has.
01:14:18.620 Therefore, I speak I to them in parables, because they seeing, see not.
01:14:24.420 And hearing, they hear not.
01:14:26.580 Neither do they understand.
01:14:29.480 Some would argue that like that was a form of mercy that he was extending to them.
01:14:33.600 He spoke it in parables where they couldn't understand it because he knew that if they,
01:14:36.640 if he did speak clearly and they did understand it, they were still going to reject them.
01:14:41.760 And that would hold them even more accountable.
01:14:43.580 That's an interesting thought.
01:14:44.900 This is speaking to the Pharisee or speaking to the masses, like the crowds?
01:14:49.680 What's the context?
01:14:50.660 I think it's, I think it's all of the above, dude.
01:14:52.660 I think the Pharisees kind of controlled the multitudes for the most part.
01:14:55.600 You know what I mean?
01:14:56.660 Yeah.
01:14:56.940 Yeah.
01:14:57.060 We certainly see that at the cross.
01:14:58.380 Like the Pharisees demand that they crucify him and then the crowd does too.
01:15:03.060 Right.
01:15:03.180 Like the leaders pushed it.
01:15:06.440 He says, because they seeing, see not and hearing, they hear not.
01:15:09.520 Neither do they understand.
01:15:10.740 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah.
01:15:12.800 Like this wasn't anything that nobody knew was common.
01:15:15.780 Like Isaiah said this ahead of time.
01:15:18.620 Isaiah, which sayeth, by hearing you shall hear and shall not understand and seeing you
01:15:22.340 shall see and shall not perceive for this people's heart is waxed gross.
01:15:26.520 So now we have the seeing and the heart connection again.
01:15:28.800 See what I'm saying?
01:15:29.340 But so the pure in heart, they shall see God.
01:15:31.900 This people's heart is waxed gross and their eyes are dull of hearing and their eyes have
01:15:37.020 they closed their eyes.
01:15:38.840 They have closed.
01:15:40.260 So blindness in the scripture, you have to understand this blindness never has to do with
01:15:44.020 like not having the ability to see.
01:15:46.540 It has to do with choosing not to see.
01:15:48.980 Right.
01:15:49.480 That's always where blindness comes in in the scripture.
01:15:52.280 It's not because you can't.
01:15:54.080 It's because you choose not to.
01:15:56.520 Even when he like when Jesus heals people, he kind of tells them like, so go ahead and
01:15:59.620 see.
01:16:00.640 Just do it.
01:16:02.560 And then they do.
01:16:03.540 Yeah.
01:16:04.240 Their eyes have they closed.
01:16:05.420 Let's at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand
01:16:11.160 with their heart.
01:16:12.320 That's heavy, too, bro.
01:16:13.440 Because like we have a system today that all of the understanding is based on intelligence.
01:16:18.380 He says, yeah, it doesn't come that way, man.
01:16:20.200 It doesn't come through the brain.
01:16:21.640 Understand with their heart and should be converted and I should heal them, which I love brain learning
01:16:27.140 too.
01:16:27.520 Don't get me wrong.
01:16:28.100 I love learning through the brain and understanding by the brain.
01:16:30.840 But like things pertaining to the kingdom of God, he's saying.
01:16:33.920 Man, you're going to be cut off if you can't understand with your heart.
01:16:37.460 If you can't understand with your spirit, you can't understand.
01:16:40.500 If it's all just mental, if it's all just like logical, if it's all just intellectual,
01:16:45.560 you can't get it, man.
01:16:46.860 You have to understand by the spirit.
01:16:49.580 Materialism.
01:16:50.720 Yeah.
01:16:51.680 And should be converted and I should heal them.
01:16:55.560 But blessed are your eyes.
01:16:56.720 Now he's getting into who we're talking about here.
01:17:00.540 Blessed are your eyes for they see in your ears for they hear.
01:17:06.900 For verily I say unto you that many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those
01:17:11.660 things which you see and have not seen them and to hear those things which you hear and
01:17:16.320 have not heard them.
01:17:18.640 So what's the difference, dude?
01:17:20.200 Their eyes, they've closed.
01:17:21.740 And he says, that's in verse 15.
01:17:24.480 And then in verse 15, 16, he says, blessed are your eyes for they see.
01:17:30.220 Right?
01:17:30.980 Do you have Acts 28, 27?
01:17:34.740 Nope.
01:17:35.240 I will though.
01:17:35.940 No, I could get it.
01:17:37.360 I think that was one I got this morning.
01:17:40.220 That's my bad.
01:17:41.820 I feel terrible for not giving you the whole list.
01:17:44.240 You don't care.
01:17:45.560 I really do.
01:17:48.860 Okay.
01:17:49.300 Watch this.
01:17:49.760 Watch this.
01:17:52.200 This is Paul talking in the book of Acts.
01:17:54.060 He says, for the heart of this people is waxed gross and their ears are dull of hearing
01:17:58.640 and their eyes have they closed.
01:18:02.540 Acts 28, 27.
01:18:03.840 Isn't that wild?
01:18:05.100 He says, their eyes have they closed.
01:18:06.880 He didn't say they can't see.
01:18:08.040 He said, they closed their own eyes.
01:18:10.720 For the heart of this people is waxed gross and their ears are dull of hearing and their
01:18:14.280 eyes have they closed.
01:18:15.300 Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart
01:18:18.760 and should be converted and I should heal them.
01:18:21.080 That's what Jesus was just saying.
01:18:23.180 So I would just, you know, ask this question that their eyes have they closed.
01:18:27.260 Then he talks to these disciples.
01:18:28.560 It's like gang of misfits, if you will, bro.
01:18:30.620 Like these outcasts.
01:18:31.900 These dudes are outcasts.
01:18:34.280 They're not any particular order.
01:18:36.540 They're not like.
01:18:37.360 Like they were all working men, but they were from different paths to like some of them
01:18:44.920 were fishermen.
01:18:45.360 There's a group that were fishermen, but these dudes all come from different paths.
01:18:48.400 They're just like working men.
01:18:49.560 And you got to think that like at that time he could have went to the temple like we would
01:18:55.060 have thought like, okay, if God's coming to the earth, he's going to start this whole
01:18:57.700 thing.
01:18:58.300 He's got to get dudes to carry this on with them.
01:19:00.860 Who's he going to get?
01:19:01.900 Surely he's going to go to the temple.
01:19:03.640 He's going to get priests, man.
01:19:05.060 He's going to get Sadducees.
01:19:06.000 He's going to get Pharisees.
01:19:06.780 He's going to get these dudes who've already memorized all of the scripture, but he doesn't.
01:19:10.640 He could have went to the college.
01:19:11.700 He's going to get educated people.
01:19:13.340 There's colleges back then, universities, whatever.
01:19:15.940 Yeah.
01:19:16.320 He's going to go there.
01:19:17.280 He's going to get like the really smart people, the intellects.
01:19:20.040 That's who's going to carry on the mission of his kingdom.
01:19:22.200 No, dude.
01:19:22.780 He gets like a band of outcasts that don't seem to have anything in common.
01:19:28.600 But the more I look at it, the more I feel like what they had in common is that they were
01:19:34.040 pure in heart, dude.
01:19:35.260 Because if he's saying they could see what he tells us, how you can see blessed are the
01:19:39.360 pure in heart for they shall see God.
01:19:40.960 And he tells them the difference between you and them as you can see, they can't.
01:19:45.560 So what is it then if it's not that they were pure in heart and that was how they were
01:19:49.020 all bound together.
01:19:49.860 That was why he chose who he chose.
01:19:51.560 Does that make sense?
01:19:53.740 Like, like what else did these guys have going for him?
01:19:56.980 What are the reasons would he have called these guys instead of the priests, instead
01:19:59.940 of the Pharisees, instead of the Sadducees, instead of the college educated?
01:20:03.740 Why did he go and get them?
01:20:05.360 But what they did have in common was they could see.
01:20:08.120 Well, blessed are the pure in heart because they shall see God.
01:20:12.780 Okay.
01:20:13.220 Matthew 15, seven through nine.
01:20:14.740 And then we're wrapping up.
01:20:16.920 I know how you get you hypocrites.
01:20:19.900 Jesus speaking again.
01:20:21.400 And I'm like, this guy came into church, man.
01:20:23.140 He was in the lobby.
01:20:23.960 They'd kick him out.
01:20:24.680 They'd be like, that guy's not a Christian.
01:20:25.940 He says, you hypocrites.
01:20:27.580 Well, did Isaiah prophesy of you saying this people draws close unto me with their mouth
01:20:31.920 and honors me with their lips.
01:20:33.780 But their heart is far from me.
01:20:36.080 But in vain, they do worship me teaching for doctrines, the commandments of men.
01:20:39.940 Could you imagine that, like, there's these people that, it's not people that, like, claim
01:20:44.380 to be lost.
01:20:45.080 Like, they draw close to him with their mouth.
01:20:48.160 They honor him with their lips.
01:20:50.160 But their heart is far from them.
01:20:52.500 And could you imagine that they're worshiping him, but it's meaningless?
01:20:56.860 It's what he says, vain.
01:20:59.320 In vain, they do worship me.
01:21:00.860 Can you imagine if you went to the show every Sunday?
01:21:03.640 They played the music.
01:21:04.900 Maybe you did the hands.
01:21:06.420 Maybe you depend on what denomination you're from.
01:21:07.980 You ran around with a flag, you know?
01:21:10.120 Or maybe you have, like, you used some instruments or something.
01:21:13.080 You were doing the thing.
01:21:14.180 You're running up and down.
01:21:15.260 You're doing stuff.
01:21:15.920 He says, yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:21:16.520 They're doing it in vain.
01:21:17.700 They're doing it in vain.
01:21:18.260 That's what he says here, man.
01:21:21.320 You see that idea of, like, it being a choice almost?
01:21:24.540 Like, not almost, but it being a choice that you do not see.
01:21:28.600 So that furtherance from God is a choice from somebody.
01:21:31.420 Remember when I told you I was in New York and I was like, yo, God's not there?
01:21:35.340 That might, I guess that was a choice.
01:21:37.360 Because obviously God is there too.
01:21:39.480 But there's just something about, like, the conditions of, like, when I'm there, I'm just
01:21:42.920 like, you know what I'm saying?
01:21:44.940 And, like, I kind of put myself in that state along with other things that were happening,
01:21:49.460 which is obviously, you know, that whole thing.
01:21:51.460 But it's like, it's a lot.
01:21:52.340 It's a lot.
01:21:52.900 It's a lot.
01:21:53.860 But how do you not do that when you're...
01:21:56.660 You just stay locked into the reality of you and God, man.
01:21:59.180 Like, that's kind of the more thing I find myself praying a lot too is like, Lord, let
01:22:03.300 me live my life in light of the reality of me and you.
01:22:05.800 Not me and New York City or me and whoever I'm tweeting about right now or me and somebody
01:22:12.400 who wasn't merciful for me and didn't ask me for mercy or me and even, like, good relationships,
01:22:18.500 you know, good family relationships, good work relationships.
01:22:21.520 Don't let me live light and reality of that.
01:22:23.180 Let me live my life in light of the reality of me and you, God.
01:22:26.500 And then all the other stuff is whatever.
01:22:28.980 It's whatever.
01:22:31.080 But this is a big difference, man.
01:22:32.420 He said their heart is far from me, right?
01:22:35.220 So they weren't pure in heart.
01:22:36.360 And for those people, their worship meant nothing.
01:22:39.920 We can just keep rolling, actually, with this in verse 10.
01:22:43.280 And he called the multitude and said to them, hear and understand, not that which goes into
01:22:46.780 the mouth defiles a man, but that which comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.
01:22:50.500 I used to use that passage to justify snorting Oxycontins when I loved the Lord.
01:22:54.840 I did.
01:22:55.500 I'm just being honest.
01:22:56.220 Like, that's what I'm saying.
01:22:56.740 You can deceive yourself with scripture and you can make stuff mean whatever you want it
01:23:00.080 to mean.
01:23:01.040 And like, I looked at that passage.
01:23:02.780 I don't think I like dwelt on it a lot, but I was like, yep, that passage means I'm good,
01:23:06.400 man.
01:23:06.540 There's nothing I can put into me that makes me unclean.
01:23:09.240 And then the Lord dealt with me on that directly.
01:23:11.080 So that was a whole other story for another time.
01:23:13.280 But then came his disciples and said unto him, knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended
01:23:17.400 after they heard this saying?
01:23:20.360 He's like, yo, they know you're calling them out, man.
01:23:23.740 One of them just said, shots fired.
01:23:25.600 But he answered and said, every plant which my heavenly father has not planted shall be rooted
01:23:30.120 up.
01:23:31.500 Leave them alone.
01:23:33.040 They're just blind leaders of the blind.
01:23:35.420 And if the blind leads the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
01:23:38.900 We need to be planted by God, right?
01:23:41.900 Otherwise, it's just the blind leading the blind.
01:23:43.960 And the worst part about that is not that the blind go into the ditch.
01:23:46.900 There's people being guided by them, being led by them.
01:23:50.660 They're not just leading themselves into the ditch.
01:23:53.040 They're leading all their followers into the ditch.
01:23:55.800 So yeah, I'm a little suspect of the modern 501c3 system.
01:23:59.060 Let's be honest.
01:23:59.580 I am, but it's because I'm a Bible reader because I'm like, dang, man, it just looks
01:24:03.580 like throughout history, dudes kind of like get a little sideways when they're in leadership
01:24:08.520 roles and religion and they can lead people astray.
01:24:11.940 And the scripture is clear.
01:24:12.960 They can lead.
01:24:13.640 They go into a ditch that they lead others into, which doesn't mean everybody's bad in
01:24:17.080 that system.
01:24:17.560 I'm not saying that.
01:24:18.300 I'm just saying I watch it with a little bit of skepticism.
01:24:21.920 That's all.
01:24:22.920 You got a lot of people.
01:24:23.920 I mean, outside of the church that are doing the same things.
01:24:26.100 Exactly.
01:24:27.300 Then answered Peter, said unto him, declare unto us this parable.
01:24:30.620 Jesus said, bro, are you still without understanding?
01:24:34.220 Do not you yet understand that whatsoever enters in at the mouth goes into the belly and is
01:24:39.500 cast out into the draft?
01:24:40.880 Go ahead.
01:24:41.280 Eat the hot dogs, Raven.
01:24:42.460 It's just going out anyway.
01:24:44.180 But those things which proceed out of the mouth, those come from the heart.
01:24:47.720 And they defile the man.
01:24:52.580 You've got to guard your heart.
01:24:54.520 What's the passage?
01:24:55.440 It says guard your heart because all of the issues of life come out of it, which is basically
01:24:58.800 what this saying.
01:24:59.440 He says, for out of the heart proceeds evil thoughts.
01:25:02.860 The heart is the spirit.
01:25:04.540 That's my take on this.
01:25:06.060 Out of the heart proceeds evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false
01:25:11.560 witness, blasphemies.
01:25:12.680 These are the things which defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands defiles not a man.
01:25:20.220 We're just bringing that up to say, watch the heart, man.
01:25:23.300 All of the issues of life come out of the heart.
01:25:26.060 Unwashed hands.
01:25:26.940 Who cares?
01:25:27.620 What does your life look like?
01:25:30.940 Let's look at Titus 1, 15 and 16, and then we're really at the end.
01:25:35.300 I know how you get.
01:25:38.480 Hurry up.
01:25:39.040 We're running up against time here.
01:25:42.680 I know your games.
01:25:45.540 Unto the pure, all things are pure.
01:25:47.280 Yeah.
01:25:48.240 But unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure, but even in their mind and
01:25:52.660 conscious is defiled.
01:25:55.180 Right.
01:25:55.780 So we're back to this pure thing, man.
01:25:58.120 Under the pure, everything's pure.
01:26:00.400 Well, I'm in New York City.
01:26:01.440 Doesn't matter.
01:26:02.340 Under the pure, all things are pure.
01:26:04.520 Why just watch this movie that has crazy stuff in it?
01:26:07.260 Yeah, you probably don't want to bombard your spirit with all that stuff, but you're good.
01:26:11.500 You're good.
01:26:12.000 Under the pure, all things are pure.
01:26:14.600 But under them that are defiled and unbelieving, nothing's pure.
01:26:20.220 Nothing sincere and genuine and good and clear like we talked about, clean, clear, purified
01:26:25.100 by fire.
01:26:25.540 Nothing is.
01:26:26.180 They profess that they know God.
01:26:28.800 Oh, so this isn't like them out there.
01:26:32.700 This is people who profess to know God.
01:26:34.560 They profess that they know God, but in works, they deny him being abominable and disobedient
01:26:40.560 unto every good work.
01:26:42.120 Unto every good work, reprobate.
01:26:45.900 I just like that passage, man.
01:26:47.540 Blessed or under the pure, all things are pure.
01:26:51.420 So I don't know.
01:26:52.280 I just don't want my life to be this series of events where I'm trying to be like doing
01:26:58.440 pure things or being pure in public.
01:27:02.040 I want to focus my life on like becoming pure because then everything's pure.
01:27:06.660 Like we said it before, man.
01:27:07.800 Like the number one thing you can do for God isn't the canned food drive, which can't food
01:27:11.460 drive.
01:27:11.680 Great.
01:27:11.960 That's great.
01:27:12.340 Or the spaghetti dinner or the fish fry or whatever.
01:27:15.020 The number one thing you can do is get alone with God and let him cultivate these characteristics
01:27:19.080 inside of you.
01:27:20.300 That's the number one thing to do.
01:27:22.320 Do we have Matthew 6, 19 through 21?
01:27:25.220 We do.
01:27:26.480 Okay.
01:27:26.800 This is really the last one.
01:27:28.200 This is literally the last one.
01:27:31.320 I know how you get.
01:27:35.520 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth where moth and rust doth corrupt and where thieves
01:27:41.340 break through and steal.
01:27:43.080 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven where neither moth nor dust doth corrupt and
01:27:48.520 where thieves do not break through or steal.
01:27:51.080 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
01:27:54.980 That's the core of what we're getting at here, man.
01:27:57.480 Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
01:28:00.360 Or wherever your heart is, there will your treasure be.
01:28:03.900 So this is what, and we're going to get into that whole 19, 20, 21 as we get through chapter
01:28:08.700 six, because then that's a wild thing too.
01:28:10.840 This is Jesus commanding us not to lay up treasure on earth and then commanding us, but
01:28:16.180 do lay up treasure in heaven.
01:28:18.000 That's an intriguing statement, but that's not what we're dealing with here.
01:28:20.440 We're dealing with for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
01:28:23.600 So the question is that like for all of us, right?
01:28:26.660 Is like, where, where is our treasure?
01:28:28.280 Where's our heart?
01:28:29.480 What's our focus?
01:28:30.560 Where are our thoughts?
01:28:31.460 Like, what do we do in our free time?
01:28:33.500 Right?
01:28:34.520 Like what, like that, like to me, that's a big question.
01:28:36.460 It's like, what, what do you do in your free time?
01:28:38.220 Where is your focus?
01:28:39.600 Where does your brain go when you're driving, when you're driving?
01:28:42.220 Where does your brain go when it's got some freedom to think, you know, you're not sleeping
01:28:46.740 and you're not at work and you're kind of in this free time space.
01:28:51.000 What do your thoughts always go to?
01:28:53.000 For me, it was very easy to go to financial things.
01:28:56.640 Like, uh, my living situation, fixing up my house, uh, getting something new, buying something
01:29:03.140 new, like, so, you know, and then just other things just of the natural world.
01:29:08.340 Right.
01:29:09.060 But just keep in mind, man, you don't want to lay up treasure on earth.
01:29:12.180 You do want to lay up treasure in heaven and where your treasure is there where your heart
01:29:16.380 be.
01:29:16.580 So where is your heart?
01:29:17.720 Where is your treasure?
01:29:18.540 What is it that you're really seeking and what is it that you're really focusing on in
01:29:22.860 life?
01:29:23.280 Is it spent on things that will mean nothing in eternity or have we changed and become
01:29:29.260 focused on the things that will matter in eternity, right?
01:29:33.380 It's the Colossian letter where Paul says, set your affections on things above and not
01:29:37.560 on things of the earth.
01:29:38.600 And I just want to encourage everybody to do that.
01:29:53.280 We'll see you next time.
01:29:54.940 See you next time.
01:30:07.520 Bye.
01:30:07.860 Bye.
01:30:07.900 Bye.
01:30:08.160 Bye.
01:30:08.420 Bye.
01:30:09.000 Bye.
01:30:09.300 Bye.
01:30:09.500 Bye.
01:30:10.480 Bye.
01:30:11.760 Bye.
01:30:12.720 Bye.
01:30:13.660 Bye.
01:30:14.700 Bye.
01:30:15.840 Bye.
01:30:17.020 Bye.
01:30:19.160 Bye.
01:30:21.280 Bye.
01:30:21.400 Bye.
01:30:22.600 Bye.
