Summary

In this episode, we continue our study of the book of Jude and talk about the purpose and purpose of the letter Jude wrote to the church. Jude calls the church to "earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints because there were certain men who crept in unaware who turned the grace of God into lasciviousness."

00:00:00.000 There's this misconception, man, that there's these seeker-friendly churches.
00:00:03.360 This is madness, bro.
00:00:04.720 Nobody can come to God unless he draws them first.
00:00:08.100 So there's not really even such a thing as a seeker.
00:00:10.780 Like, the only way you're seeking is if God's drawing you.
00:00:14.240 So if you're trying to make up this thing to get people to like it,
00:00:17.340 bro, you're bringing them in on a straight falsehood.
00:00:19.560 Like, you're bringing them in on something fake.
00:00:21.700 But if God is really drawing somebody, then just preach the word of God with fire.
00:00:25.740 Bring it.
00:00:26.500 Bring the fire and hammer and just preach hard.
00:00:28.960 Just bring it, dude.
00:00:29.780 Because those people God's drawing, they'll respond to the truth.
00:00:33.480 They won't respond to playtime.
00:00:35.060 Top Lobster Productions
00:00:38.260 We're back in Jude.
00:01:06.060 We made it all the way to our last study in Jude,
00:01:09.120 which is crazy that people would hang in there that long on like a 25-verse book
00:01:14.080 that we've probably cross-referenced 100 passages on now.
00:01:18.460 So I'm just really grateful to everybody that's hung in there.
00:01:20.740 This is like a big day to like really finalize the book of Jude.
00:01:24.940 And shout out to Aidan.
00:01:26.160 My son turns 18 today.
00:01:27.640 I don't know if you knew that.
00:01:28.520 No, happy birthday, Aidan.
00:01:29.520 Yeah, Aidan's 18 today.
00:01:30.980 He's doing good?
00:01:31.820 Yeah.
00:01:32.100 Okay, great.
00:01:32.640 He's crushing it at life, dude.
00:01:34.280 He's crushing it.
00:01:35.000 Happy birthday, dude.
00:01:36.300 So Jude is this.
00:01:37.780 Jude verses 1 through 4 is like the intro and the purpose of the letter, right?
00:01:42.860 Like anytime we're reading a book in the Bible, we've got to come to terms with like who's
00:01:47.340 the writer?
00:01:47.960 Who's he writing to?
00:01:48.960 It's Jude, he's writing to the church, and then he's saying his purpose, which can really
00:01:55.440 be summed up in verse 3 and 4.
00:01:58.340 Remember he says, he tells the church to earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered
00:02:04.340 unto the saints because there are certain men crept in unaware who turned the grace of
00:02:09.440 God into lasciviousness.
00:02:10.540 So that's really the context, right?
00:02:11.880 Then you go through verses 4 through 19, which is exposing the apostasy, exposing that, giving
00:02:17.760 you examples of that through scripture, giving examples from scripture, which like when we
00:02:23.760 talk about apostasy, we could just say, you know, the carnal life is really what he's exposing.
00:02:28.020 And then what we're in now is verses 20 through 25, which is the solution or the application,
00:02:33.100 which is spiritual life.
00:02:35.000 Like he's just exposed versus 4 through 19, this life of apostasy, this life of falling
00:02:42.680 away, which revolves around personal gain, personal lust, personal desire, love of self,
00:02:50.140 and will actually take advantage of the church to benefit self.
00:02:54.480 And then now we see the solution.
00:02:56.540 Now we see the solution.
00:02:57.420 That's where we're at.
00:02:57.880 Verses 20 through 25.
00:03:00.820 So like I'm saying, the point that he's getting at is to earnestly contend for the faith.
00:03:06.820 And I feel like this needs to be said.
00:03:08.700 Sometimes people read that and they think like they have to win arguments with words, right?
00:03:14.860 You guys probably know some people that may or may not be in the room that I'm talking
00:03:18.940 about when I say that.
00:03:20.020 And like people think like earnestly contends for the faith, which means like we have to
00:03:24.060 win arguments with words, but we in arguments, we win arguments with life.
00:03:28.720 Like that's what we do in the Christian faith.
00:03:30.500 We win arguments with life, the way we live our life.
00:03:35.920 You want me to go this way or this way?
00:03:37.160 No, you're good.
00:03:37.740 Stay.
00:03:38.880 We win arguments with life, not with words.
00:03:41.220 Like to make this real, think about if you guys have ever like interviewed somebody or
00:03:45.320 even sat in on an interview and they do like this great interview and then they come to
00:03:50.060 work and you're like, what happened to the guy from the interview?
00:03:52.620 Like this guy is terrible in real life, but he crushed it with the words, right?
00:03:55.980 But talk is cheap.
00:03:57.100 Talk is cheap.
00:03:57.660 That's why we're not earnestly contending for the faith, winning arguments.
00:04:01.360 We're winning it with the way we live our life.
00:04:04.080 Or think about this weird thing.
00:04:05.580 There's this thing in America called presidents.
00:04:09.540 And so every four years they have like the elite ruling class like puts up, there's one
00:04:14.880 on the red team.
00:04:15.640 There's one on the blue team.
00:04:16.640 They put up these people and they go around and they like say words and shake hands and
00:04:21.880 kiss babies.
00:04:22.820 And then based on that, we supposedly like vote.
00:04:25.960 They call it voting.
00:04:26.680 And then they're saying like, oh yeah, the people get to pick which one of the ruling class
00:04:30.560 elites is ruling the nation, the red team or the blue team.
00:04:34.320 But the context is that like they went around and did like this popularity contest by saying
00:04:39.940 words and trying to get people's vote, which is a completely different skill set than running
00:04:46.280 a nation.
00:04:47.140 Those are two completely different, irrelevant skill sets, man.
00:04:52.280 Like running a nation.
00:04:54.520 Like it's basically sales and then operations, right?
00:04:57.360 Those are two totally different things, dude.
00:04:58.900 But somehow we ended up in this space where like a guy talks and talks and talks.
00:05:02.560 And so they pick him and now he has the job of running a nation, which could have nothing
00:05:07.580 to do with this skill set of being able to talk.
00:05:10.780 It's the wildest thing.
00:05:12.160 You know, we just, you know, we're living in a simulation.
00:05:15.040 What are you going to say?
00:05:15.600 Okay.
00:05:15.840 So verse 20, let's read it.
00:05:18.400 But you, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy
00:05:23.520 Ghost, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus
00:05:27.720 Christ unto eternal life.
00:05:29.740 And if some have compassion, making a difference in others, save with fear, pulling them out
00:05:34.560 of the fire, hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
00:05:37.740 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling and to present you faultless before
00:05:42.280 the presence of his glory with exceeding joy to the only wise God, our savior, be glory
00:05:47.020 and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever.
00:05:49.740 Amen.
00:05:50.560 That's how, that's how Jude wraps this up.
00:05:52.160 So let's unpack this.
00:05:53.080 So verse 20, build up yourselves on your most holy faith.
00:05:58.860 So, so build up yourselves.
00:06:00.940 That's, that's thing.
00:06:01.860 How?
00:06:02.740 Not, not on temporary things.
00:06:04.560 Like I think a lot of people think they're building up themselves as they're building a
00:06:07.620 bank account.
00:06:08.280 They're buying a house, maybe another house.
00:06:10.640 They're buying a fancy car.
00:06:12.360 They're doing cool things in business, which that's great.
00:06:15.260 Those are great things, whatever.
00:06:16.980 But that, but this is talking about building up yourselves on your most holy faith, which we've
00:06:21.160 talked about this Hebrews 11, one passage before, right?
00:06:24.220 That faith is the substance that things hope for the evidence of things not seen.
00:06:28.580 So build up yourself on that substance, make your faith more and more real.
00:06:34.320 And it's gotta be a living, real faith.
00:06:36.520 Remember in James 2, 19, it says that demons believe demons believe and tremble.
00:06:43.740 So that's like this.
00:06:44.720 Oh, it's not just believing it's building yourself up on faith, building yourself up on that substance.
00:06:48.980 Remember faith is a substance.
00:06:50.280 Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.
00:06:52.820 Let's see how Jesus breaks this down in Luke 17.
00:06:55.680 Let's look at Luke 17, verses 5 through 10.
00:06:59.780 And the apostle said unto the Lord, increase our faith.
00:07:03.300 So that's the context.
00:07:04.780 They come to Jesus and they're asking him this.
00:07:07.940 Jude says, build up yourselves on your most holy faith.
00:07:10.320 That's basically what they're asking.
00:07:11.640 They're saying, Lord, increase our faith so we could build up ourself on our most holy
00:07:15.740 faith.
00:07:16.000 How do we get more faith?
00:07:16.940 They're asking him to do it.
00:07:18.600 Watch what happens.
00:07:20.680 And the Lord said, if ye had faith as a grain of a mustard seed, ye might say unto the
00:07:25.840 sycamine tree, be thou plucketh up by the root and thou plant it in the sea and it shall
00:07:30.640 obey you.
00:07:32.680 But which of you having a servant plowing or feeding cattle will say unto him by and by
00:07:37.520 when he has come from the field, go and sit down to meet?
00:07:40.700 Hold on.
00:07:41.180 Hold on.
00:07:41.480 Let me just deal with five and six real quick.
00:07:43.360 And then we'll go into seven through 10.
00:07:46.080 I feel like, you know how we talk a lot about not being deceived, especially like people
00:07:50.960 are arguing over doctrine and theology and how does the end times go down and how does
00:07:56.260 the millennial thing happen?
00:07:57.560 Did it already happen?
00:07:58.700 Are we in the middle of it now?
00:07:59.780 Is it going to happen at a later date?
00:08:01.200 And there's all this arguing over like words and a book and who can prove it because they're
00:08:06.100 like so smart and they understand letters and they have doctrine and theology and they've
00:08:10.620 studied Hebrew and Greek.
00:08:11.980 And what we were talking about, like knowing the Lord, like knowing the character of the
00:08:15.500 Lord is very important to not be deceived because you have to be able to apply it to
00:08:19.280 the day that you live in, not just when debates based on like two plus two is four.
00:08:23.360 Like the word of God is not just an intellectual book of like two plus two is four.
00:08:28.320 So like, this is one of the things that Jesus is like, man, he, they say, increase our faith.
00:08:35.100 He doesn't even like answer.
00:08:36.800 He doesn't even like answer what they're saying, dude, like what he's doing.
00:08:40.040 And this is a characteristic of God.
00:08:41.760 I feel like this is, this is what he does.
00:08:43.560 He, he's giving, he's making them hungry for faith.
00:08:46.860 They say, increase our faith.
00:08:48.260 He tells them something that is designed to make them hungry for more faith.
00:08:53.540 That way they will go get faith.
00:08:55.500 He's, he doesn't spoon, he doesn't say, oh, increase our faith.
00:08:58.200 Here's a scoop for you, Peter.
00:08:59.540 Here's a scoop for you, Matthew.
00:09:01.620 Here's two scoops for you, James.
00:09:03.300 No, no, no, no.
00:09:04.300 He doesn't operate like that, man.
00:09:06.200 He, he tells a story.
00:09:07.860 He says, bro, if you had faith, imagine what you could do by doing that.
00:09:13.220 He's making them hungry for faith and they are going to increase faith.
00:09:16.980 And they're going to learn as this story goes on, how to increase faith.
00:09:20.180 Faith without works is dead.
00:09:21.840 So do the works of faith, which is different than works of the law,
00:09:24.480 but they're going to do works of faith.
00:09:25.760 That's going to build them up.
00:09:26.740 Faith comes, faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.
00:09:30.220 So faith comes, faith goes.
00:09:31.960 They're going to be intentional to be in the word of God,
00:09:34.420 to, to get more faith because they're excited.
00:09:36.520 Now they're saying like, wow, faith is this thing that can do stuff.
00:09:39.500 I know people get offended by that, but that's,
00:09:41.500 but that's clearly what the scripture teaches.
00:09:45.000 Okay.
00:09:45.540 Now we, now we can do the rest.
00:09:46.980 Seven through 10, because this is a super valid point, man.
00:09:51.560 But which of you having a servant plowing or feeding cattle would say unto him by and by,
00:09:55.720 when he has come from the field, go and sit down to meet.
00:09:58.980 What do they mean by meat?
00:10:00.460 Dinner.
00:10:01.100 To eat.
00:10:01.540 Right.
00:10:02.720 And I will not rather say unto him, make ready wherewith I may sup and gird thyself
00:10:08.460 and serve me till I have eaten and drunken and afterward thou shalt eat and drink.
00:10:12.920 Doth he thank the servant because he did the things that were commanded him?
00:10:18.160 I trial not.
00:10:20.120 So likewise, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded of you, say,
00:10:24.740 we are unprofitable servants.
00:10:26.780 We have done that, which was our duty to do.
00:10:28.880 Dude.
00:10:29.420 So just to unpack this real quick, I know that's a little confusing.
00:10:32.500 He's saying like, yo, if you're a servant, you just do what you're supposed to do.
00:10:36.360 You're not expecting anything.
00:10:37.600 You're just doing your duty.
00:10:39.300 He's immediately saying, be careful about pride when it comes to faith.
00:10:44.060 This is what he's saying.
00:10:45.000 He's saying, dude, if you had faith, look what you can do, but be real careful.
00:10:48.360 Be real careful because if you do have faith and incredible things are happening,
00:10:52.960 be very careful for pride.
00:10:54.420 You're just doing your job.
00:10:55.740 You're just doing what you're supposed to do.
00:10:57.140 Do we have the Romans 12, 12, 1 passage?
00:11:00.220 In Romans 12, 1, it says, this is your reasonable service.
00:11:04.420 Like, don't think that because now you have faith and things are happening that now you're a big shot.
00:11:10.500 Don't do that.
00:11:11.200 He immediately has a warning about pride.
00:11:13.260 Faith is what's expected.
00:11:15.920 Watch what it says in Romans.
00:11:16.840 It says, I beseech you, therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies
00:11:20.540 or your whole being a living sacrifice, not a dead one, a living sacrifice.
00:11:26.060 Like your entire life, you sacrifice that to God.
00:11:29.140 That's faith.
00:11:30.240 Holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
00:11:33.400 I love that verse because like the creator of the universe came down,
00:11:37.900 let people spit in his face and rip his beard out,
00:11:40.060 made him die this bloody, torturous death to buy me back from the dead
00:11:43.700 so that I don't spend eternity separated from him.
00:11:47.020 Yeah, I think it's my reasonable service that I would have faith and give my entire being to him.
00:11:52.320 Do you see what I'm saying?
00:11:53.400 So it's not like you did something good or you're some big shot now because like you're rolling in the faith.
00:11:59.600 Like that's not what this is about.
00:12:00.960 Okay, let's look at Matthew 17, 14 through 21.
00:12:07.740 And you like reading because you don't like the dead time?
00:12:10.360 Is that what's going on?
00:12:11.440 Like if there's like dead time in between passages?
00:12:13.560 I'll read for you.
00:12:14.160 Sometimes it looks like you're struggling.
00:12:15.260 And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man kneeling down to him and saying,
00:12:22.100 Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is a lunatic and sore vexed.
00:12:27.140 For oft time he falleth into the fire and oft into the water.
00:12:31.860 What does that mean?
00:12:32.560 He's got a demon.
00:12:34.300 He's got a demon.
00:12:35.000 He's a lunatic.
00:12:36.280 Like it looks like this is talking about even like, what's it called when you have like the convulsions and the people start foaming at the mouth and have, what's it called again?
00:12:46.500 Epilepsy?
00:12:47.120 Yeah.
00:12:47.400 It looks like it's potentially this is what he's talking about.
00:12:50.380 Which like for a long time, that's how they understood epilepsy was demonic.
00:12:55.220 Was that it was demonic that it was like the foaming at the mouth and all this stuff.
00:13:00.620 But no matter what, it's definitely a demon that they're coming to Jesus and saying, hey, can you help?
00:13:06.280 The guy, now the guy says in verse 16, he says, I brought them, I brought them to your disciples and they could not cure him.
00:13:17.240 Then Jesus answered.
00:13:20.720 I don't know if you're ready for this, Tom.
00:13:22.380 You might get offended.
00:13:23.680 Then Jesus answered and said, oh, faithless and perverse generation.
00:13:27.780 Remember, we've talked about this before that like Jesus would probably not be welcome in a lot of like modern American churches.
00:13:33.840 Like look how he just generalizes an entire generation and he doesn't stop to say, now hear my heart, church.
00:13:39.800 I don't mean everybody.
00:13:41.260 I don't mean everybody in this generation.
00:13:43.660 Hear my heart.
00:13:44.580 He doesn't say that.
00:13:45.940 He thinks you have a brain and you can think through it and understand that he's generalizing an entire population.
00:13:52.140 And of course, you know that that doesn't necessarily mean every single person's like that.
00:13:56.340 Right.
00:13:56.720 It's a generalization.
00:13:58.300 And like that used to be okay.
00:14:00.120 Now, I guess people are offended by that, but he just crushes this whole generation.
00:14:04.220 Oh, faithless and perverse generation.
00:14:06.520 How long shall I be with you?
00:14:07.760 How long shall I suffer you?
00:14:08.980 Bring him here to me.
00:14:10.560 And Jesus rebuked the devil and he departed out of him.
00:14:14.380 And the child was cured from that very hour.
00:14:16.860 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart and said, why could not we cast him out?
00:14:22.220 Right.
00:14:23.620 What are we talking about right now?
00:14:24.740 We're talking about build up yourselves on your most holy faith.
00:14:27.580 Right.
00:14:28.920 And Jesus said unto them, because of your unbelief.
00:14:33.600 Okay.
00:14:33.980 We got to deal with this too, because people, people won't necessarily understand.
00:14:38.140 In 10, one, like we don't have faith in faith.
00:14:41.260 Like that's kind of this weird thing.
00:14:42.660 I think there's like a word of faith movement or something, or like name it and claim it.
00:14:46.280 And it's like this concept of having faith in faith.
00:14:49.260 We don't, we don't have faith in faith.
00:14:50.860 We have faith in Jesus and in what he's told us through his word.
00:14:54.600 So this, so you're like, what, man, why is he riding them hard like this, dude?
00:14:58.360 Like these guys bring the disciples, a boy with a demon.
00:15:03.160 They can't cast them out.
00:15:04.420 Jesus says, you faithless and perverse generation.
00:15:07.340 Like he's like, he's riding them for that.
00:15:09.240 Right.
00:15:09.980 Why?
00:15:10.340 Because in 10, one, it says this, it says when he, Jesus had called unto him as 12 disciples,
00:15:14.900 he gave them power against unclean spirits to cast them out and to heal all manner of
00:15:20.780 sickness and all manner of disease.
00:15:22.720 That's why it's something that he had already given them.
00:15:25.960 He had already given them through his word, this power to do this, and they weren't operating
00:15:30.740 in it.
00:15:31.140 And that's why he rebuked them and called them faithless.
00:15:33.280 So he gave them faith, but because it's a substance, you're able to lose this thing.
00:15:37.980 Well, he gave them power.
00:15:39.000 We could, um, faith and power go together, but he gave them power over those unclean
00:15:45.680 spirits.
00:15:46.040 And the fact that they weren't operating in that power that he gave them, he was saying
00:15:50.440 you're faithless.
00:15:51.420 You don't, I gave you this power and you're not operating in it.
00:15:54.780 You're not operating in it by faith.
00:15:58.020 So again, it's, you don't have faith in faith.
00:16:00.380 You don't have faith in things that like you just make up.
00:16:02.540 You have faith in the word of God.
00:16:04.080 You have faith in what God has told you.
00:16:05.720 And in this case, he told them that they have power over this demons.
00:16:09.200 And they're not doing it.
00:16:10.660 So he rebukes them.
00:16:12.060 He says, because of your unbelief, he said, he tells them straight up for verily, I say
00:16:18.260 unto you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed there, we see this faith as a grain of
00:16:23.080 mustard seed again.
00:16:23.920 And this point needs to be made the issue like a, like a mustard seed is like this really
00:16:29.440 tiny seed, this incredibly small seed.
00:16:31.740 So it's not the matter of like having big faith.
00:16:34.600 Like you're a big shot.
00:16:35.680 You have big faith.
00:16:36.540 No, no, no.
00:16:36.940 That mustard seed is so little, but as life, as long as you have a living faith, as long
00:16:42.980 as you, it could be the size of a mustard seed.
00:16:45.020 He's literally saying that it could be this tiny.
00:16:47.240 It could be this little speck on the table.
00:16:49.000 As long as it has life in it, as long as your faith has life in it, this is what you
00:16:53.960 can do.
00:16:54.320 If you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, living faith, you shall say unto this mountain,
00:16:59.560 remove hence to yonder place and it shall remove and nothing shall be impossible unto
00:17:03.980 you.
00:17:04.880 How be it this kind?
00:17:08.060 This kind of what?
00:17:09.420 This kind of devil.
00:17:10.460 Yeah.
00:17:10.780 This kind of demon where it says devil in the King James.
00:17:14.420 That's what we call a demon.
00:17:16.820 How be it this kind of demon, which is intriguing because if there's this kind, then there must
00:17:21.140 be that kind too.
00:17:22.300 Like there's all these different kinds.
00:17:25.920 How be it this kind?
00:17:27.520 They don't go out, but by prayer and fasting.
00:17:29.980 So he rebukes them for their lack of faith.
00:17:32.940 Says you don't have faith.
00:17:34.920 This kind only goes out by prayer and fasting, which makes this connection between prayer
00:17:39.200 and fasting, building faith.
00:17:41.680 Does that make sense?
00:17:42.900 He's saying you can't cast them out because you don't have faith.
00:17:45.740 This kind only goes out by prayer and fasting.
00:17:48.400 You got to be on another level to build the kind of faith to cast these ones out.
00:17:52.780 Like I get, I know people get like really offended if you say like, oh, your faith does things
00:17:59.640 like your faith accomplishes things in the earth.
00:18:02.660 But the scripture like clearly teaches that it clearly teaches that like your faith has
00:18:08.440 power to do stuff.
00:18:11.380 This is actually, I don't want to detract from your, your episode here, but one of the disagreements
00:18:17.040 we had with Albarino was whether aliens leave in the name of Jesus or not.
00:18:20.900 And he says there had been cases where they don't.
00:18:24.140 And obviously we were trying to make the angle that they're demonic.
00:18:27.580 Well, you know, some leave with prayer and fasting.
00:18:30.420 These types leave with that.
00:18:32.100 These types, you need a certain amount of faith.
00:18:34.440 Yeah.
00:18:34.720 That's a hard concept to tell people.
00:18:37.800 Like, especially when we've been told, we've been told that like, you know, there's incredible,
00:18:46.360 incredible power in the name of Jesus Christ.
00:18:49.680 But still these things require, there, there is still a requirement of certain things.
00:18:53.860 It's bizarre to me.
00:18:56.160 Well, not bizarre, but like, it's just interesting to think.
00:18:58.720 Well, no, there's, yeah, there's different levels of faith.
00:19:00.880 And I know, I think maybe you got a little, uh, not happy about that to say like, oh, it's
00:19:05.280 on the person who got abducted or whatever.
00:19:07.360 If I remember the conversation.
00:19:08.620 I didn't get unhappy about it.
00:19:09.800 We're not really saying that, but, uh, potentially like, yeah, different people with different
00:19:13.920 faith do different things with that faith.
00:19:15.980 And we brought up the, uh, sons of Sceva that tried casting out demons in the name of Jesus.
00:19:20.180 They did the same thing that other people did, but it didn't work.
00:19:22.900 And so, so maybe there is a situation where, uh, aliens leave people alone at the name of
00:19:29.680 Jesus.
00:19:29.980 And other times they don't, I don't know.
00:19:31.800 Aliens isn't really my thing.
00:19:32.860 I don't know.
00:19:33.280 I mean, I'm intrigued by it, but I just don't know a lot about it to speak on it.
00:19:36.240 Well, demons.
00:19:36.620 I see you.
00:19:40.760 Okay.
00:19:41.200 Watch this in Luke, uh, just to kind of bring this point home about our faith is in what
00:19:45.880 God has told us, right?
00:19:47.520 Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.
00:19:50.020 So our faith is about what God has given us in his word, right?
00:19:56.220 Uh, not, not like making things up.
00:19:58.260 So we're going to look at Luke 8, 22 through 25.
00:20:00.840 Did I didn't have this in the notes?
00:20:02.380 I did.
00:20:03.000 Okay.
00:20:03.160 I got it.
00:20:03.540 I got it.
00:20:03.960 Now it came to pass on a certain day that he went into a ship, that's Jesus with his
00:20:08.140 disciples.
00:20:08.580 And he said unto them, let us go over into the other side of the lake.
00:20:11.480 And they launched forth.
00:20:13.680 But as they sailed, he fell asleep.
00:20:16.440 Jesus fell asleep.
00:20:17.480 And there came down a storm of wind on the lake and they were filled with water and were
00:20:21.260 in jeopardy, jeopardy.
00:20:22.780 Some would say that's another, uh, remember we talked about Job and how Satan controlled
00:20:27.120 the weather in Job.
00:20:28.180 Some would say that's what he was doing here too, that, uh, Satan was tampering with the
00:20:31.820 weather because these were fishermen who spent their life like on the water.
00:20:35.480 And this would be very bizarre for these fishermen to just be caught off guard by a storm like
00:20:39.800 this.
00:20:40.060 Like, it's crazy.
00:20:40.740 Like, so that's why some people think this is like the supernatural storm.
00:20:43.760 Uh, Satan's trying to take them out.
00:20:45.440 Yeah.
00:20:45.580 I think I, I've done like a little study on this as well.
00:20:47.860 Like when you look at that, the, the sea that they were in, it's, it's a, it's not a
00:20:52.420 huge sea.
00:20:53.120 It's not the sea.
00:20:54.220 So that kind of a storm would be unusual for that.
00:20:56.700 Yeah, it would be very unusual for them.
00:21:01.980 And there came down a storm of wind on the lake and they were filled with water and were
00:21:05.900 in jeopardy.
00:21:06.760 And they came to him and awoke him saying, master, master, we perish.
00:21:09.980 Then he arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water and they ceased and there
00:21:16.000 was a calm.
00:21:17.940 And he said unto them, where is your faith?
00:21:21.020 This is what he says to these guys, man.
00:21:23.120 He's saying like, it's unacceptable that you just freaked out because a storm came and they
00:21:29.380 being afraid, wondered saying one to another, what manner of man is this?
00:21:34.480 But I wonder if Jesus thought what manner of men are these like, like, where is their
00:21:39.920 faith for he commanded even the wind and the water and they obey him again.
00:21:45.220 This is a point I'm trying to make.
00:21:46.560 He says in verse 22, we're going to the other side.
00:21:50.240 If he doesn't say that, you start freaking out.
00:21:53.540 Okay, no problem.
00:21:54.400 But if he told you we're going to the other side and he's on the boat with you, what are
00:21:59.320 you freaking out about?
00:22:00.520 Do you see what I'm saying?
00:22:01.320 Like, like, this is the context.
00:22:02.720 We have faith in the word of God.
00:22:04.940 When God tells us something and then we deny it and then we don't believe it, that's a problem.
00:22:10.380 That's a problem.
00:22:11.160 We're not saying have faith in the fact that you're going to be a millionaire or you have
00:22:16.420 faith in you're going to drive a Cadillac or you have faith in, I don't know, make up
00:22:20.140 the stuff because that's what people do now.
00:22:21.920 Like, there's like a faith movement where you start making things up and you make yourself
00:22:25.300 believe it.
00:22:25.900 That's not faith.
00:22:26.900 Faith is believing what God has told you through his word.
00:22:30.040 These are good examples because he told them we're going to the other side.
00:22:34.640 We're going to the other side and I'm in the boat with you.
00:22:38.800 What do you mean you're freaking out now?
00:22:41.520 That's having no faith.
00:22:43.160 That's a problem.
00:22:43.820 So, okay, now we're going into, all right, but you, beloved, building up yourselves on
00:22:51.700 your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.
00:22:53.940 Now, I know there's a group within the body of Christ who I know and love and I'm very
00:22:58.980 close to called like Pentecostals or Charismatics who think that praying in the Holy Ghost means
00:23:05.300 just praying in tongues, which I'm not saying that you can't pray in tongues in the Holy Ghost.
00:23:11.060 I'm not saying that, but there's no way that I'm accepting that praying in the Holy Ghost
00:23:14.720 means just praying in tongues.
00:23:18.140 Like John Wesley, if you think about John Wesley, this dude never prayed in tongues.
00:23:22.560 He turned the world upside down.
00:23:24.040 Like, you will never convince me that he was not praying in the Holy Ghost.
00:23:27.320 You'll never convince me of that.
00:23:29.160 He didn't pray in tongues, right?
00:23:31.380 That's just one of the things within the body that's just like interesting stuff that the
00:23:38.580 different denominations believe the different things or whatever.
00:23:41.600 But let's look at, I think what the scripture teaches about praying in the Holy Ghost is
00:23:44.820 really in Romans 8, 22 through 27.
00:23:47.540 No, I'll go to it.
00:23:54.500 Romans 8.
00:23:55.160 I just thought you wanted to read it because I know how you get it.
00:23:57.640 All right.
00:23:57.860 Romans 8, 22.
00:23:59.240 Watch this.
00:24:00.880 For we know that the whole creation groans and travails and pain together until now.
00:24:09.200 No, I'm going to go back to 19.
00:24:10.820 Let's just do it just because we're here.
00:24:12.280 It's kind of off track, but it's we're here.
00:24:14.020 Let's just do it.
00:24:14.540 For the earnest expectation of the creature waits for the manifestation of the sons of
00:24:18.880 God, because the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason to
00:24:23.200 him who had subjected the same in hope, because the creature itself also shall be delivered
00:24:27.700 from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
00:24:31.820 For we know that the whole creation groans and travails and pain together until now.
00:24:36.160 Bro, that's saying that the entire creation is like, hey, human beings, let's go.
00:24:40.860 Let's go.
00:24:41.380 Adam brought the curse on the entire creation and all of the creation is still under the
00:24:46.640 curse.
00:24:47.180 And that creation can't do anything about it.
00:24:50.080 They can't do anything about it.
00:24:51.860 Like we're the kingly line.
00:24:53.360 Like we're the ones that rule the territory of the earth.
00:24:57.220 They can't do anything about it.
00:24:58.540 This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached under the ends of the world.
00:25:02.300 And then the end shall come like that's man's job.
00:25:05.840 Demons can't even do it.
00:25:06.880 Like Jesus starts casting out demons and demons are preaching the gospel.
00:25:10.360 They're saying, we know who you are, the holy one of God.
00:25:12.680 And he says, shut your mouth.
00:25:14.240 It's not demons job to preach the gospel.
00:25:16.240 That's man's job.
00:25:17.900 Right.
00:25:18.380 And like the whole creation is saying like humans, come on, let's go, man.
00:25:21.860 Like we're stuck in this way of life now under the curse.
00:25:25.400 Like, let's get this going.
00:25:27.720 Okay.
00:25:28.100 That was just a sidebar, but I just, I don't know.
00:25:30.120 I really liked that passage, but, but I do want to start in 22 for, we know that the whole
00:25:33.860 creation groans and travails and pain together until now.
00:25:36.380 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the first fruits of the spirit.
00:25:40.620 We have the beginning.
00:25:42.280 Even we ourselves grown within ourselves, waiting for the adoption to wit the redemption
00:25:47.440 of our body because we are saved by hope, but hope that is seen is not hope for what a
00:25:52.220 man sees.
00:25:52.840 What does he yet hope for?
00:25:53.920 That's not hope.
00:25:54.500 He already sees it.
00:25:55.660 But if we hope for the things we don't see, then do we with patience, wait for it.
00:26:00.800 Likewise, the spirit also helps our infirmities for we know not what we should pray for as
00:26:06.060 we ought, but the spirit itself makes intercession for us with groanings, which cannot be uttered.
00:26:12.060 This is what the scripture teaches, man.
00:26:14.400 Let the Holy spirit pray through you.
00:26:16.920 And he that searches the hearts knows what is the mind of the spirit because he makes intercession
00:26:21.740 for the saints according to the will of God.
00:26:24.200 The Holy spirit's inside you wanting to pray.
00:26:27.440 Give him that.
00:26:28.340 Let the Holy ghost pray through you.
00:26:30.880 Let him pray through you.
00:26:32.860 Right.
00:26:33.300 And when he does that, there's like groanings, which cannot be uttered.
00:26:36.620 Some people know that experience.
00:26:38.580 Some people don't.
00:26:40.120 Some people don't know what that's about.
00:26:41.800 Some people have been in a place of prayer and they're just praying and praying and praying.
00:26:45.840 And the next thing you know, they're crying and praying and they're praying and crying
00:26:49.080 and crying and praying and they're going.
00:26:50.560 And then ultimately ends up in just, whoa, just groaning.
00:26:54.200 That can't even be uttered.
00:26:55.120 It's just not even words, man.
00:26:56.920 You're just in this place of agony.
00:26:58.780 I think that's where the fasting comes through, man.
00:27:01.020 Like sometimes I think if you're fasting, you're able to get into that thinner spot
00:27:04.860 and then praying, that'll flow right through you.
00:27:07.640 Well, yeah, you're just way, way, way more sensitive.
00:27:10.460 You're way more sensitive when you're fasting.
00:27:12.520 We talked about like the Tony Hawk game when it goes into slow motion.
00:27:15.620 It's like that, dude.
00:27:16.760 You're just what your spirit's way more sensitive, man.
00:27:19.620 You're way more aware.
00:27:20.780 And so some of that stuff pricks your heart and grieves you that maybe you kind of didn't
00:27:24.640 you notice before, but you didn't care too much.
00:27:26.400 Now it's grieving you because you're praying in the Holy Ghost.
00:27:29.260 You're feeling the way the Holy Ghost feels.
00:27:31.120 You're feeling how God feels and you're praying accordingly.
00:27:35.480 And that's where this groaning comes out, man.
00:27:37.240 You're just groaning like you're praying and praying.
00:27:39.560 And then boom, you just have nothing left to say, man, other than just, oh, some people
00:27:45.320 know that and some people don't.
00:27:46.980 That's okay.
00:27:47.660 We're looking at 1 Corinthians 6, 19 and 20 now.
00:27:56.400 Hold on.
00:28:02.920 What?
00:28:03.420 Know you not that your body, not just the body, your body.
00:28:09.940 Know you not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, which is in you, which you
00:28:16.660 have of God and you are not your own.
00:28:19.460 Dude, this is heavy for me.
00:28:21.040 When I first read this passage, you're not your own.
00:28:23.540 You ever see this movie called, um, I saw it on the airplane and, um, it's a video game
00:28:30.760 and it's called, um, Assassin's Creed.
00:28:33.160 Mm-hmm.
00:28:33.400 Assassin's Creed.
00:28:34.380 There's a line in that movie, bro, where he goes, the blood that flows through your
00:28:37.720 vein is not your own.
00:28:39.720 Bro, it's hard.
00:28:40.800 That movie's hard, bro.
00:28:41.860 And then it gets into like the apple that got eaten in the Garden of Eden.
00:28:45.180 I can't remember.
00:28:45.840 It's a rad movie though, but it, but it's just got this gangster line in it.
00:28:49.120 The blood that throws, that flows through your vein is not your own.
00:28:52.460 It's what this is saying, dude.
00:28:54.180 Know you not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, which is in you, which
00:28:57.740 you have of God and you are not your own.
00:28:59.880 Why?
00:29:00.380 Because you are bought with a price.
00:29:02.460 Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.
00:29:06.560 Okay.
00:29:07.240 That's Christianity 101, dude.
00:29:09.360 Like if you sign up for this, your body's not your own anymore.
00:29:13.760 Like that's even when I think it came up about tattoos before or whatever.
00:29:16.720 And I say, yeah, yeah, whatever, but your body doesn't belong to God.
00:29:19.980 So it doesn't belong to you.
00:29:21.280 Sorry.
00:29:21.500 So if you want to mark it up, that's, I'm not saying yes or no.
00:29:24.520 I'm just saying you have to take that to God because your body belongs to God.
00:29:28.860 This is like, dude, we could do a whole study just on this verse.
00:29:32.040 I'd like to, because that this verse gets into like, so your body, your body, and I'm
00:29:36.900 sorry, your body and your spirit, which are God's.
00:29:40.320 I assume that's lowercase G because I have it all capitalized here, but that's a, that
00:29:45.620 is an interesting delineation.
00:29:47.680 I'd like to get into that a little bit more.
00:29:49.700 Yeah.
00:29:49.940 What?
00:29:50.200 Know you not that your body is the temple of the Holy ghost.
00:29:54.180 So the, the big thing here I'm trying to talk about is like, some people talk about like
00:29:57.620 having a visitation from God.
00:29:59.140 I'm not looking for a visitation from God, right?
00:30:01.760 So people are like, Oh, I had this dream.
00:30:02.960 I had this vision.
00:30:03.600 I had a visitation from God.
00:30:05.080 Amen.
00:30:05.360 I love that.
00:30:06.360 And I, I love that.
00:30:06.380 And I respect that.
00:30:07.200 I'm just saying I'm more centered on or focused on or thinking about creating a habitation
00:30:14.140 for God.
00:30:14.620 I'm thinking about creating an environment where he wants to live.
00:30:17.540 Like, like, like, am I, am I an environment?
00:30:20.100 Like, am I, am I an actual environment where the Holy ghost wants to live?
00:30:24.080 Like, I'm like, am I actually creating an environment like by my life where he's comfortable,
00:30:29.960 where he's going to live?
00:30:31.620 And I think just being aware of that is like a huge step, just being mindful of that because
00:30:37.720 I'm not my own, man.
00:30:38.820 I was bought with a price.
00:30:41.220 That is such a hard line.
00:30:42.780 But, but the point I'm just trying to get at is we're just building up a couple of passages
00:30:46.880 right here about being aware.
00:30:49.680 Like we're talking about, let the Holy ghost pray through you, right?
00:30:52.400 Praying in the Holy ghost.
00:30:53.880 Okay.
00:30:54.280 Well, we have to be aware that he's in us and that he's living in us.
00:30:57.220 So let's just read through some passages that are going to make this real that he's inside
00:31:01.060 of us.
00:31:01.620 So Luke 11, do you think like, uh, I was having the conversation about Hanukkah recently as
00:31:07.020 well.
00:31:07.160 That's a celebration of the temple, but here we have consistently saying that Jesus Christ
00:31:13.320 is that new temple.
00:31:14.080 And then we have this idea of the temple that's inside of us that the Holy spirit is dwelling.
00:31:17.640 This is what God had left us when Jesus Christ leaves.
00:31:20.720 It's like, you're talking about people who are not, you're talking about a culture, whether
00:31:23.940 it's Kenya or Mexico or Canada or England, that's a nation.
00:31:30.260 That's a, you're talking about the nation of Israel.
00:31:32.160 They're a nation and they have a holiday, uh, that has to, that revolves around, yeah,
00:31:38.920 their temple.
00:31:39.500 That's something different than us being the temple.
00:31:41.960 Yeah.
00:31:42.100 That's what I'm talking about.
00:31:42.840 Like that, the, I guess that, that line between the temple is external, the temple is internal.
00:31:48.740 And then how does that affect what, like how we are, what we do our actions going forward?
00:31:53.720 How does that affect our abilities?
00:31:55.260 No, this is a great, you're, this is a great topic.
00:31:57.720 Yeah.
00:31:57.880 It's a great topic because you're right.
00:31:58.920 Because like sometimes people get caught up in this idea that now like the church is
00:32:02.960 the temple.
00:32:03.380 They may, they may or may not use that language, but they're like, yeah, when I go to the A
00:32:07.360 frame building with the cross on it at 10 AM every Sunday, like that's the temple, like
00:32:10.720 in their mind.
00:32:11.300 No, no, your body is the temple.
00:32:13.020 Like Ravenhill, I seen Ravenhill preaching one time and he was saying, I love this guy, dude.
00:32:19.880 He goes, he goes, all right, anybody in here that's, uh, smoke cigarettes, light them up.
00:32:24.260 He's in church.
00:32:24.960 Yeah.
00:32:25.080 He's in church.
00:32:25.700 He's in the pulpit.
00:32:26.800 He goes, anybody who wants to smoke cigarettes, go ahead, light them up.
00:32:29.640 And everybody's just like sitting there.
00:32:31.340 He's like, yeah, yeah.
00:32:31.720 Light them up.
00:32:32.280 Whoever here that's cigarette smokers, go ahead, smoke.
00:32:36.360 And everybody's just like silent, right?
00:32:38.000 They're just moving.
00:32:38.560 He goes, yeah, that's funny.
00:32:39.300 Cause I saw you outside smoking.
00:32:41.200 I saw you guys outside smoking cigarettes.
00:32:43.000 So anything that you're willing to do out there, you should be able to do in here because this
00:32:47.840 is the temple.
00:32:48.760 Yeah.
00:32:49.000 If you're willing to do that to your temple out there, do it in here.
00:32:51.600 The church is just like a, I don't know, a drawing of it.
00:32:54.300 It's like a depiction of.
00:32:55.360 Yeah.
00:32:56.080 Yeah.
00:32:56.780 Very interesting.
00:32:57.800 Yeah.
00:32:57.960 But we are the temple and we'd have to unpack that a lot more because in that same passage,
00:33:03.140 I believe he's saying you are the temple individually, but the church as a whole is the temple as
00:33:07.640 well.
00:33:08.120 The body of Christ, the body of believers, not just you individually, the Holy Spirit lives in
00:33:13.120 you.
00:33:13.240 He also lives in all of us collectively as, as the body of Christ.
00:33:17.200 So yeah, that's like a way deeper thing that I can see you want to get deeper into.
00:33:22.000 And we definitely can.
00:33:22.980 All right.
00:33:23.220 So Luke 11, nine, and I say unto you, remember, we're just getting to this point of coming
00:33:28.180 to terms with the creator of the universe living inside of you.
00:33:31.580 People struggle with this.
00:33:32.720 They're like, yeah, no.
00:33:33.680 When they pass the paper around and it says you can be Buddhist or Hindu or Islam or whatever,
00:33:38.820 I check the box.
00:33:39.940 It says Christianity.
00:33:42.040 No, no, no.
00:33:42.840 Does Christ live in you?
00:33:44.920 Well, yeah, I got baptized.
00:33:46.580 No, no, no, no.
00:33:47.440 But does God live inside you?
00:33:49.940 Well, yeah, I go every Sunday.
00:33:51.260 No, that's not.
00:33:51.880 No, no.
00:33:52.380 Does, does God live inside of you?
00:33:54.500 Like, that's what we're trying to get at here.
00:33:56.200 Cause this is a crazy thought.
00:33:57.300 Like this is the craziest, most offensive thing.
00:33:59.900 I mean, the thought of like God coming down to the earth and letting people spit in his
00:34:03.300 face and rip his beard out and dying a bloody, torturous death to buy us back.
00:34:07.500 That's wild.
00:34:08.420 But I think this rivals that dude, the thought that the creator of the universe would live
00:34:13.080 inside of us.
00:34:14.220 So it's like, you kind of had to keep getting this in your spirit and thinking about it and
00:34:18.540 reading it over and over and over till you really come to terms with this.
00:34:22.200 Like there's nothing else.
00:34:23.460 There's no other so-called religion that has anything remotely close to that.
00:34:26.600 They're like the, that God would live inside you.
00:34:30.240 And I say unto you, ask and it shall be given you seek and you shall find knock and it shall
00:34:35.680 be opened unto you for everyone that asks receives and he that seeks finds into him that
00:34:40.420 knocks, it shall be opened.
00:34:42.060 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone?
00:34:45.680 Or if he asked for a fish, will he, uh, will he for a fish, give him a serpent?
00:34:49.780 Or if he shall ask for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?
00:34:52.380 If you then being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall
00:34:57.940 your heavenly father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
00:35:02.940 This is what we're talking about, man.
00:35:04.800 We're talking about, let's, let's just make sure we have the context here.
00:35:07.820 We're reading in Jude, praying in the Holy Ghost, right?
00:35:11.480 We've read about in Romans eight, letting the Holy Ghost pray through you, right?
00:35:16.960 We've talked about in the one Corinthians six passage that we are the temple of the Holy
00:35:21.780 Spirit.
00:35:22.080 Like he lives inside of us.
00:35:23.800 This is saying, ask God for the Holy Spirit.
00:35:29.160 Ask God for the Holy Spirit.
00:35:30.860 He wants to give him to you.
00:35:32.080 That's what this is saying.
00:35:32.800 If you then being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall
00:35:36.900 your heavenly father give the Holy Spirit to who?
00:35:39.620 To them that ask him and don't get hung up on like crazy, you know, there's like these
00:35:43.980 big fighting doctrine over, oh, well, you're already saved.
00:35:47.340 So you have the Holy Spirit.
00:35:48.420 Like the scripture says to ask God for the Holy Spirit.
00:35:51.040 I wouldn't get hung up on, well, do I have them?
00:35:53.580 Do I don't have them?
00:35:54.600 Okay.
00:35:55.020 Let's just start over and ask them now.
00:35:56.840 Just ask them now.
00:35:57.760 Well, I think these are these decisions that we have to make every day, right?
00:36:00.200 It's like, are you going to watch that pornography?
00:36:03.700 Are you going to do this thing?
00:36:05.120 Are you going to say this?
00:36:06.480 The words are fleeting.
00:36:07.800 So that's a lot harder.
00:36:08.800 But like the actions are the things that we should deal with constantly.
00:36:11.960 And I think if they're at least coming to my mind, like, should I do or should I not?
00:36:17.100 It's almost like they're passing through this temple and I'm deciding if I'm going to let
00:36:20.440 that stay or not let that in, you know?
00:36:23.240 Right.
00:36:23.380 But you're bringing up a heavier topic, bro.
00:36:25.080 It's like, I think it's Romans seven that kind of really breaks it down that like, here's
00:36:29.100 this perfect law of God, right?
00:36:31.500 You can't do it.
00:36:32.720 Like you can't, like you're saying like, oh, do I, the pornography or the this or the
00:36:36.020 that, like you can't resist it in your own strength.
00:36:39.360 Your only solution is the Holy Spirit living in you.
00:36:42.320 That is your own, like, like that's what the entire Old Testament taught us is like,
00:36:46.120 hey, nobody can do this.
00:36:48.120 Like, like here's the law.
00:36:49.540 Here's the catch.
00:36:50.380 Nobody can do it except for one.
00:36:52.100 And he did it.
00:36:53.020 He fulfilled the law.
00:36:54.220 Yeah.
00:36:54.320 Like these things, there's a difference between these things coming to your mind.
00:36:57.240 Like the, the thing that's almost on your lips that you're about to say, and then you
00:37:00.580 doing it at least we could, at the very least we could stop from doing it.
00:37:04.620 Yeah.
00:37:04.780 We're going to be, we're going to be pelted with these thoughts, these fiery darts from
00:37:08.580 the enemy.
00:37:09.100 Yeah.
00:37:09.460 Nobody's saying you're bad.
00:37:10.440 If a thought crosses your mind, I mean, there's probably everybody in the chat probably
00:37:13.400 knows you've had some thoughts come across your mind.
00:37:15.040 You're like, where the F did that come from?
00:37:17.360 I did not want to think that.
00:37:18.540 Like I, I could, I did not want to think that thought that just came in my brain.
00:37:22.420 It's what you do with it from there.
00:37:23.820 Yeah.
00:37:24.160 Like $200.
00:37:25.040 But the whole point, I don't like that.
00:37:26.840 The whole point is let God live through you.
00:37:30.560 That's what the entire old Testament taught us is like, you can't do this in your own strength.
00:37:35.620 The only way to live this is God living through you, which is grace.
00:37:39.720 Like that's the concept of grace is that it's God living through you.
00:37:43.380 You can't do it in your own strength.
00:37:47.300 So just, just get used to the idea of God living and speaking in and through you.
00:37:52.300 Um, where did we end up at?
00:37:53.860 Were we in Luke 11, nine?
00:37:55.100 Was that what we just read?
00:37:55.600 Yeah, we just finished that.
00:37:56.320 Right.
00:37:56.460 Do we have Mark 13?
00:37:57.660 Cause I don't know what all is in the notes and what's not.
00:37:59.720 Yeah, we do.
00:38:01.640 Okay.
00:38:02.060 But take heed to yourselves.
00:38:05.340 For they shall deliver you up into councils and in the synagogues, you shall be beaten and
00:38:09.940 you shall be brought in before rulers and Kings for my sake, for a testimony against them.
00:38:14.840 Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
00:38:15.900 To get, to get them converted?
00:38:18.180 No.
00:38:18.940 No.
00:38:19.280 To get, to make them become Christians?
00:38:21.460 No.
00:38:22.080 No.
00:38:22.300 For a testimony against them.
00:38:24.320 That's another thing.
00:38:25.160 Maybe some people know this experience.
00:38:26.540 Some people don't.
00:38:27.720 Sometimes, man, like, you know, the Lord is drawing you to have some conversation or some
00:38:32.720 engagement with some person and you do that.
00:38:35.520 I remember in the beginning, like walking away from some of those conversations going
00:38:38.520 like, that's not how I thought that was going to go.
00:38:40.360 And then I didn't understand, like the Lord wasn't guiding me into that conversation
00:38:44.060 to save them.
00:38:44.820 It was a testimony against them.
00:38:46.700 Like, like that's a thing, dude.
00:38:48.280 We spoke about that last week about when we should, like how we should be having these
00:38:55.080 conversations leading to whatever.
00:38:56.720 And you're like, hey, it's not up to us to guide how it is.
00:39:00.140 It's just for us to do what we're called.
00:39:05.060 Interesting thought there.
00:39:06.040 Okay, wait, where are we at, Mark?
00:39:11.280 We're still in Mark 13, 9 through 11.
00:39:16.040 And the gospel must first be published among all nations.
00:39:20.320 So this is after the persecution.
00:39:21.740 He says, and the gospel must first be published among all nations.
00:39:25.900 Remember, that's what the creation is waiting for us to do.
00:39:28.720 The creation.
00:39:29.380 Remember, we just read in Romans that the creation is waiting and groaning, waiting for
00:39:33.260 the manifestation of the sons of God, was it?
00:39:36.980 Yeah, that's what they're waiting for us to do.
00:39:38.980 This gospel must first be published among all nations.
00:39:41.500 The turkeys and the deer and the chickens can't do that, dude.
00:39:43.900 That's human's job.
00:39:44.900 That's man's job.
00:39:46.140 But when they shall lead you and deliver you up, this is what I'm getting at.
00:39:49.780 Take no thought beforehand what you shall speak.
00:39:52.420 Neither do you premeditate.
00:39:53.840 But whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak.
00:39:58.640 For it is not you that speak, but the Holy Ghost.
00:40:01.240 Just get used to this idea of the Holy Ghost living in you and talking through you and speaking
00:40:06.480 through you and living through you.
00:40:08.040 Get used to that.
00:40:09.320 That's all I'm trying to say here, man.
00:40:11.040 Remember, the context is praying in the Holy Ghost.
00:40:13.220 I'm just trying to build you up with these passages about the Holy Ghost being in you
00:40:16.880 and guiding you.
00:40:19.400 Now, the brother shall betray.
00:40:21.000 This is how serious it is.
00:40:21.940 The brother shall betray the brother to death and the father, the son, and children shall
00:40:25.400 rise up against their parents and shall cause them to be put to death.
00:40:28.240 It's going to get ugly, man.
00:40:29.440 It's going to get nasty.
00:40:30.980 And you shall be hated of all men for my name's sake.
00:40:34.060 Remember, Jesus never sugarcoats it.
00:40:36.300 He says, make sure you want to sign up for this before you sign up for it because you're
00:40:39.820 going to be hated of all men for my name's sake.
00:40:42.300 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
00:40:48.640 Dang.
00:40:49.040 Which, I mean, logically, you have to get from this passage that he that doesn't endure to
00:40:54.940 the end won't be saved, right?
00:40:56.280 But Jesus is saying he that does endure to the end, he will be saved.
00:41:01.500 This is heavy, bro.
00:41:02.660 But that's all I'm saying is like, you've got to know the Lord and be guided by the Lord
00:41:07.140 because in that hour, boom, he's going to give you what to speak.
00:41:10.080 That hour where you're most desperate, you're most in trouble, you're most in danger.
00:41:15.260 And that hour, whatsoever shall be given to you in that hour, that speak.
00:41:20.320 For it's not you that speak, but the Holy Ghost.
00:41:22.500 Man, I'm telling you, this concept of God living through us, that is Christianity.
00:41:27.660 All right.
00:41:28.520 And this only happens through relationships.
00:41:31.200 This doesn't happen through cemetery school, which that's great if you go.
00:41:34.300 There's nothing wrong with that.
00:41:35.000 But that's not what we're talking about.
00:41:36.380 We're not talking about like memorizing verses.
00:41:38.560 We're talking about this relationship with God, like knowing his guidance because he lives in you.
00:41:43.220 All right.
00:41:43.400 Now we're in, let's look at Acts 13, 1 through 4 for an example of praying in the Holy Ghost.
00:41:50.900 Not the example, but one example of praying in the Holy Ghost.
00:41:54.280 Acts 13, 1 through 4.
00:41:59.200 Now they were in the church that was at Antioch, certain prophets and teachers,
00:42:03.400 as Barnabas and Simeon that were called Niger.
00:42:06.380 And Lucius of Cyrene and Manan, which had been brought up with Herod the Tetrack and Saul.
00:42:13.880 As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, there's this fasting again and praying.
00:42:18.780 As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Ghost said,
00:42:23.140 the Holy Ghost said, separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.
00:42:29.400 This is what we would call apostles of the Holy Spirit, right?
00:42:33.580 People want to argue a lot if there's still apostles today.
00:42:36.400 No, only those ones that walk with Jesus were apostles.
00:42:39.340 No, this passage right here is where the Holy Spirit calls Barnabas.
00:42:43.640 And Barnabas in a later passage is referred to as an apostle.
00:42:47.060 He was not part of the original.
00:42:48.300 He was an apostle of the Holy Spirit.
00:42:49.700 He was called by the Holy Spirit.
00:42:51.540 This is praying in the Holy Ghost.
00:42:52.920 They're praying.
00:42:53.680 They're fasting.
00:42:54.920 They're getting after God.
00:42:56.340 They're going hard after him.
00:42:57.480 They're not just like hanging out saying like, hey, what are we going to do for our next church service?
00:43:00.820 How do we get more people to come in?
00:43:02.400 How do we do the better music and fog machine?
00:43:04.240 No, no, no.
00:43:04.600 They're talking about like high level, heavy, weighty operations on planet Earth, man.
00:43:09.620 And as they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, separate me, Barnabas and Saul, for the work run to I have called them.
00:43:17.460 And when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.
00:43:23.240 So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed into Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus.
00:43:30.080 This is an example of praying in the Holy Ghost, man.
00:43:32.580 Stuff's happening.
00:43:33.860 They added a third step there as well, which is interesting.
00:43:37.080 They fasted, they prayed, and they laid hands on them.
00:43:40.120 That seems significant.
00:43:41.660 Amen.
00:43:42.120 Yeah.
00:43:42.520 I wasn't really digging into that, but amen.
00:43:45.080 Yeah.
00:43:45.320 That's another level, dude, which there's a thought.
00:43:48.460 You may or may not notice this, dude, but sometimes when people are in the shop and they seem like demonized or whatever,
00:43:53.920 sometimes I will just put a hand on them because my understanding is that the Holy Spirit will flow through you.
00:44:00.100 Like, remember these passages where Paul, they take handkerchiefs and aprons off him and they put them on people and diseases leave them and demons leave them?
00:44:07.080 I believe that the Holy Spirit is even a tangible presence that absolutely, if it can go into, like, cloth material and stuff like that, it absolutely can go through me into somebody.
00:44:16.920 Is that why you keep touching me?
00:44:18.220 Stop.
00:44:18.580 But even, like, my family or whatever, people, sometimes, you probably never notice, but I'll just put a hand on someone even just while I'm talking to them because I believe that.
00:44:29.100 Because I believe that.
00:44:29.540 Because I believe, like, if the Spirit of God is operational, then, yeah, he could go, like, if we had a way to measure it, we could see it or whatever, he would actually be going from me into somebody else.
00:44:39.660 If somebody thinks that's silly or prideful or whatever, I don't care.
00:44:43.360 I don't care, man.
00:44:44.020 That's the realm I'm living in.
00:44:45.080 Like, I love the Lord, and I try to live my life in the reality, like, in light of me and God.
00:44:49.600 I'm not trying to live my life in the reality of the Kardashians and Justin Bieber and the Super Bowl and the World Series and whatever's going on on the job and the Republicans did this and Democrats.
00:45:00.480 No, no, no.
00:45:00.940 I'm just down here for 120 years, and I want to live my life in light of the reality of me and God.
00:45:06.220 Like, this is, like, this is the story of me and God, and I'm just going around the earth, and I'm just doing my thing.
00:45:11.760 Here's some coffee.
00:45:13.200 Here's a nice little pastry.
00:45:14.820 Like, I'm just doing my thing, and then here's some person that's struggling.
00:45:18.320 Maybe they're physically sick.
00:45:19.540 Maybe they're, like, spiritually sick.
00:45:20.920 Maybe whatever.
00:45:22.000 I'm going to put my hand on them just while I'm talking to them.
00:45:24.040 I'm not going to make some big show out of it.
00:45:25.320 I'm not going to do some big prayer.
00:45:26.560 I'm just going to put my hand on them.
00:45:28.320 You know what I'm saying?
00:45:29.300 Yeah, because something happens in that process.
00:45:31.300 They laid hands on them.
00:45:32.580 I don't think that was just, like, some figure of speech, if you will,
00:45:35.740 or just some format that they did, like, some cold, dead formality.
00:45:39.520 Like, oh, here, we're doing this thing because it's, no, no, no.
00:45:42.200 I think they knew something was happening when they did that.
00:45:47.900 Okay, let's look at what not to do.
00:45:49.920 Let's look at what not to do.
00:45:51.180 Because in Acts 7, 51, this is Stephen before the council, like, the organized religious institution that claims to represent God.
00:46:00.660 This is Stephen standing before that council, man.
00:46:03.680 This is what he says.
00:46:04.840 You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears.
00:46:09.860 What do you do?
00:46:10.760 You do always resist the Holy Ghost.
00:46:13.180 As your fathers did, so do you.
00:46:15.160 So we're not talking about resisting the Holy Ghost.
00:46:20.840 We're talking about praying in the Holy Ghost, right?
00:46:23.800 We're unpacking all these passages.
00:46:25.520 I know it's taking a little while.
00:46:26.660 Are we like, no, we're good.
00:46:28.200 Everything's good?
00:46:28.800 Okay, so we're building up ourselves on our most holy faith, and we're praying in the Holy Ghost.
00:46:33.280 We're not resisting the Holy Ghost.
00:46:34.880 We're aware that he's living inside of us.
00:46:36.660 We want to make a habitation for him.
00:46:38.660 We're getting used to this idea that he's going to be living through us and speaking through us because we are his temple, and we don't want to resist him.
00:46:45.660 We don't want to resist him by our lifestyle, by our mindset towards him.
00:46:49.880 We don't want to resist him in any of those ways.
00:46:51.840 We want to give him free range in our life.
00:46:54.240 Like, that's the ultimate human experience is the creator of the universe living through you.
00:46:59.820 All right, let's look at verse 20.
00:47:02.500 We're back in Jude.
00:47:03.640 We're back in Jude, verse 20.
00:47:08.660 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on the most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.
00:47:17.820 Building up yourselves.
00:47:19.040 This is where we're at now, right?
00:47:20.460 We already dealt with building up yourselves.
00:47:24.420 We dealt with praying in the Holy Ghost.
00:47:26.760 I just want to look at this word building, just building, right?
00:47:31.380 If we're going to look at this, you've got to look at the ultimate passage on this topic.
00:47:35.060 I think it's Luke 14, verses 25 through 33.
00:47:41.060 All right, let's take a quick break, guys.
00:47:45.140 We'll be back in three minutes.
00:47:49.960 Sit tight.
00:48:05.060 See you next time.
00:48:08.900 Bye.
00:48:08.980 Bye.
00:48:09.280 Bye.
00:48:13.900 Bye.
00:48:19.900 Bye.
00:48:19.960 Bye.
00:48:20.060 Bye.
00:48:20.340 Bye.
00:48:20.920 Bye.
00:48:22.220 Bye.
00:48:22.280 Bye.
00:48:23.380 Bye.
00:48:23.860 Bye.
00:48:24.240 Bye.
00:48:24.800 Bye.
00:48:25.120 Bye.
00:48:29.160 Bye.
00:48:31.220 Bye.
00:48:31.740 Bye.
00:48:32.200 Bye.
00:48:32.540 Bye.
00:48:32.920 Bye.
00:48:34.100 Bye.
00:48:34.540 Bye.
00:48:35.060 Thank you.
00:49:05.060 Thank you.
00:49:35.060 We're back.
00:49:40.660 Sorry about that, everybody.
00:49:44.340 All right.
00:49:44.900 So we're in this passage.
00:49:46.340 Yeah, I had to be focused for this passage because this is heavy to me, bro.
00:49:49.360 So this is Luke.
00:49:51.240 We're talking about building, right?
00:49:53.320 So we're in Luke 14, verses 25 through 33.
00:49:59.900 Hold on.
00:50:00.500 I'm going to pull it up.
00:50:01.160 I'm going to pull it up.
00:50:02.580 And there went a great multitudes with him.
00:50:04.800 And he turned and said unto them,
00:50:06.720 If any man come to me and hate not his father and his mother and wife and children and brethren and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
00:50:16.740 And whosoever does not bear his cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.
00:50:23.640 Okay, hang on, hang on, hang on.
00:50:25.740 We're going to get into a lot of stuff.
00:50:27.460 We're going to get into a lot of stuff.
00:50:28.620 But first and foremost, just notice that Jesus never sugarcoats it.
00:50:37.420 He never sugarcoats it.
00:50:41.960 He's being very plain with people.
00:50:44.060 He says, Hey, you want to come after me?
00:50:45.720 No problem.
00:50:46.400 You've got to hate father, mother, wife, children, and brethren and your sisters and your own life also.
00:50:52.440 If you don't do that, you can't be my disciple.
00:50:55.240 Now, this is an identity passage as far as I can tell.
00:50:58.720 Like this is how people identify as within their family ranks, within their family, especially in that day.
00:51:03.740 Families are a lot closer than today.
00:51:05.160 Like today, you have family, and the kids grow up, and they all move to different countries, different states, whatever.
00:51:09.740 It doesn't really matter so much anymore.
00:51:12.000 But like throughout time, like family was identity.
00:51:14.620 And he's saying like if you can't lose your earthly identity to be connected to me and be willing to lose all of them,
00:51:21.860 if it comes to it, to hate them in comparison to your love for me,
00:51:25.720 like if they're going to pull you away from me and you're going to go with them instead of me,
00:51:29.580 you can't be my disciple.
00:51:31.080 Like he just says that very plainly.
00:51:33.440 Okay, let's keep going.
00:51:35.560 Where are we in?
00:51:36.160 Verse 27?
00:51:37.260 Yep.
00:51:37.460 And whosoever does not bear his cross and come after me, he cannot be my disciple.
00:51:44.520 Do people even want to be a disciple today?
00:51:46.880 I don't think they can even get told this in church, dude.
00:51:49.060 Like if everybody who came to the show on Sunday morning got told this,
00:51:53.400 how many of them would say, yeah, I still want to sign up for that?
00:51:56.060 And why aren't they being told this?
00:51:57.360 Because he's being very plain.
00:51:58.860 He's being very plain.
00:51:59.540 Don't sign up for this unless you mean it.
00:52:02.300 All right.
00:52:02.740 So now we're in 28.
00:52:03.560 For which of you intending to build?
00:52:06.660 Here we go.
00:52:07.720 Which of you intending to build a tower sits not down first and counts the cost,
00:52:12.060 whether he has sufficient to finish it?
00:52:13.920 Less happily, after he has laid the foundation and is not able to finish it,
00:52:17.920 all that behold it begin to mock him, saying,
00:52:19.900 And this man began to build and wasn't even able to finish.
00:52:23.400 Or what king goes to make war against another king, sits not down first,
00:52:27.620 and consults whether he be able with 10,000 to meet him that comes against him with 20,000?
00:52:32.360 Or else while the other is yet a great way off,
00:52:34.500 he sends an embassage and desires conditions of peace.
00:52:37.880 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsakes not all that he has cannot be my disciple.
00:52:43.320 This is one of those stories from Jesus that could apply both ways, dude.
00:52:47.220 I really think this.
00:52:48.160 I really think that.
00:52:48.600 I know there's a lot of people like,
00:52:49.400 No, no, no.
00:52:50.000 Every verse only means one thing.
00:52:51.480 That's great.
00:52:52.060 That's fine.
00:52:52.860 I really think this applies to Jesus.
00:52:55.260 Jesus says,
00:52:55.960 I'm building.
00:52:58.740 I'm building something, right?
00:53:01.580 Which of you intending to build doesn't sit down and count the cost?
00:53:04.460 Jesus says,
00:53:04.780 I've counted the cost and I'm building a church.
00:53:06.940 Like that's what he's saying.
00:53:08.200 I'm building a church.
00:53:09.520 And guess what we're going to do?
00:53:10.720 We're going to go to war.
00:53:12.160 This is what this passage is about.
00:53:14.360 And this is Jesus.
00:53:15.540 He has counted the cost.
00:53:16.720 He has made that conscious decision to come down to planet Earth and say,
00:53:20.080 No, man, those humans are worth it to me.
00:53:22.680 I'm willing to do this.
00:53:23.720 I've counted the cost.
00:53:24.720 Everything it's going to cost me to surrender my ability as God.
00:53:27.440 He's never going to stop being God, but he surrendered his abilities as God.
00:53:30.400 Like for one to be everywhere at once.
00:53:32.180 Dude, when he came to the Earth, he was only in one place at one time.
00:53:35.360 So in that sense, like he surrendered his abilities as God.
00:53:38.700 He said, I've counted the cost.
00:53:40.460 I'm willing to do that because they're worth it.
00:53:42.740 I'm going to buy them back from the dead.
00:53:44.020 I'm going to build a church and we're going to go to war.
00:53:46.720 Right.
00:53:47.200 And I think this applies to man, too.
00:53:49.660 I think this applies to man.
00:53:50.920 I think this applies to Christians that a man has to decide.
00:53:55.840 Has he counted the cost?
00:53:57.220 That's really the context.
00:53:58.460 He's saying like.
00:54:00.440 Verse 33.
00:54:01.300 Have you counted the cost?
00:54:02.380 Likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsakes not all that he has, he cannot be my disciple.
00:54:07.500 So have you counted the cost?
00:54:09.920 Have you counted the cost?
00:54:11.080 Because if you're going to sign up for this, now you're going to be building and warring.
00:54:15.720 Right.
00:54:16.320 You're going to be involved in the war.
00:54:19.120 You're going to be involved in the in the building of the church.
00:54:22.460 Like, make sure you are ready to sign up for this.
00:54:25.260 Something's being built.
00:54:26.360 It's the body of Christ.
00:54:27.940 That's what he says when like you have to hate all of your family.
00:54:32.700 And it's not I don't think he means hate in the word like like you personally hate them.
00:54:36.860 But you have to be ready for like like crazy stuff's going to happen to be ready for them to hate you.
00:54:40.820 And if they do hate you, you have to be willing to say, OK, man, I'm with Jesus.
00:54:45.480 And then, bro, you see it with the Muslim nations all the time.
00:54:47.580 Like the dude Steve Masood, when he preaches here, like he forsook Islam to be a Christian.
00:54:52.940 His entire family wanted him dead, dude.
00:54:55.400 They send people after him to kill him.
00:54:56.580 He's got a wild ass story, bro.
00:54:58.240 Yeah, you got it.
00:54:58.920 I got it.
00:54:59.240 We don't know a lot about that in this nation because like the type of Christianity that we have is a very palatable Christianity.
00:55:06.340 It's not like they don't even read these passages to say, like, make sure you're ready for this.
00:55:09.380 Oh, no, no.
00:55:09.920 Everybody come.
00:55:10.660 Yay.
00:55:11.520 Say repeat after me.
00:55:12.700 Say this prayer even before you've repented.
00:55:15.320 Say you believe in Jesus.
00:55:16.900 Invite him into your heart, even though he's on the right hand of the Father in heaven.
00:55:20.260 OK, now you're a Christian.
00:55:21.700 Yay.
00:55:22.380 Right.
00:55:22.760 So we don't really have like persecution or suffering loss or family caring a whole lot.
00:55:28.520 You definitely have it some.
00:55:29.960 Definitely have it some.
00:55:30.620 Don't get me wrong.
00:55:31.500 I'm just saying like the majority of it is not like that.
00:55:34.100 This is also extremely fair.
00:55:35.940 Like you're being warned.
00:55:38.300 Yes.
00:55:38.700 Of this.
00:55:39.440 Yes.
00:55:39.920 Before you do this thing.
00:55:41.060 Yes.
00:55:41.540 That's why I'm saying the seeker friendly church with the slide in the lobby is a scandal in the eyes of a holy God because he's spending his time saying, no, no, no.
00:55:49.580 Whatever you do, count the cost before you sign up for this.
00:55:52.420 Do not sign up for this if you're not ready to forsake everything.
00:55:56.800 Yes.
00:55:57.160 Now you say, oh, no, we're not like in war.
00:56:02.060 We're not soldiers.
00:56:03.200 Let's just look at 2 Timothy 2, 1 through 4 real quick.
00:56:06.400 I'll just read it.
00:56:07.080 It probably wasn't in the notes.
00:56:08.140 I think I might even put this in this morning.
00:56:09.720 A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I.
00:56:11.660 It goes Thessalonians, then Timothy because it's in alphabetical order.
00:56:15.080 2 Tim what?
00:56:15.760 2 Tim 2, 1 through 4.
00:56:17.780 Watch this.
00:56:20.020 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
00:56:23.820 This is Paul talking to Timothy.
00:56:25.380 And the things that you have heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men who shall be able to teach others also.
00:56:32.720 Bro, keep the chain unbroken.
00:56:34.000 This is a heavy concept, man.
00:56:36.560 I wish people understood this today, man.
00:56:38.620 I wish we could build up a generation that would operate like this, man.
00:56:42.320 Don't let the chain be broken, Timothy.
00:56:44.920 This is what you got to do, man.
00:56:46.460 The things that you heard from me, now you go commit to faithful men.
00:56:51.800 I've given it to you, Timothy.
00:56:53.340 You give it to faithful men.
00:56:55.280 Don't just give it to anybody because they're the local guy that will donate a lot of money to the church.
00:56:59.860 No, no, no.
00:57:00.440 Make sure you find faithful men, man.
00:57:02.240 We can't let the chain get broken.
00:57:04.960 The things that you heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit to faithful men who shall be able to teach others also.
00:57:11.060 It goes from me, Timothy, to you, to them, to the next generation, man.
00:57:15.680 We cannot let the chain be broken.
00:57:18.300 You, therefore, endure hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
00:57:22.140 We're in a war.
00:57:23.220 We're in a war.
00:57:23.840 If you never got told that, you have to know that.
00:57:26.180 We're in a war.
00:57:26.960 We're referred to as soldiers of Jesus Christ.
00:57:29.340 You, therefore, endure hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
00:57:32.540 No man that wars entangles himself with the affairs of this life that he may please him who have chosen him to be a soldier.
00:57:40.400 Think about that.
00:57:41.020 Imagine if you went to war in Iraq or Afghanistan, and just in the middle of the war, you're out there, like, shooting, and then you just kind of take your stuff off, and you just kind of go do whatever you're going to do at the local bar and go in the grocery store.
00:57:52.480 You start living like a civilian, like you're not even at war.
00:57:55.320 He's saying that's what the Christian life is like.
00:57:58.320 Do not sign up for this.
00:57:59.760 Get involved in the war.
00:58:00.820 And then just drop your weapons and go walking off to the grocery store in the local bar.
00:58:04.820 No, no, no.
00:58:05.600 No man that wars, no soldier, entangles himself with the affairs of this life.
00:58:10.680 Don't be entangled with the affairs of this world.
00:58:13.140 No man having put his hand to the plow and looking back is fit for the kingdom of God.
00:58:17.960 Like, you sign up for this.
00:58:19.260 You have to make sure you want to do this because you're in a war.
00:58:21.820 That's what he's saying.
00:58:23.120 If you sign up for Christianity, your life is going to be spent building and warring.
00:58:28.060 That's what it's like.
00:58:28.500 The idea of the backslider?
00:58:30.060 What do you mean?
00:58:31.640 I mean, backsliders within the church is a different connotation than what I'm kind of taking from here,
00:58:36.720 where it's like, if you backslide and you don't go to the church, they look at you in a certain way.
00:58:40.840 But this has more consequences for the backslider.
00:58:44.500 Yeah.
00:58:45.280 Actual consequences, not just somebody who doesn't go to a place anymore.
00:58:49.180 Yeah.
00:58:49.740 Yeah, man.
00:58:50.240 You sign up for this and then forsake the king.
00:58:54.440 And he's warned you.
00:58:55.560 He's warned you a bunch of times, like, make sure you're ready to sign up for this before you sign up.
00:59:00.520 He's doing everything he can to say, like, don't sign up for this.
00:59:04.140 This is like the exact opposite of modern Christianity, bro.
00:59:07.320 He's saying, like, dude, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
00:59:09.440 It'll be worse for you if you sign up for this and then forsake me.
00:59:12.040 So just make real sure before you sign up for this.
00:59:14.920 We don't preach like that today, bro.
00:59:17.140 It's playtime today.
00:59:18.700 They're like, come to the church.
00:59:19.700 You can jump in the little bounce house and have a good old time.
00:59:22.180 That's not how he preached.
00:59:23.680 He said, whoa, whoa, whoa, before you do this, just make sure you're willing to forsake everything or don't do it.
00:59:29.140 All right.
00:59:29.420 Here's the ultimate example of, like, what happens if you're not building or warring, right?
00:59:33.840 This is the life of David.
00:59:35.600 This is a brutal passage to me, dude.
00:59:37.700 This is a brutal passage to read.
00:59:39.300 I'm just going to read it anyway.
00:59:40.220 Two kings, sorry, 2 Samuel 11, starting in verse 1.
00:59:45.400 And it came to pass after the year was expired at the time when kings go forth to battle that David sent Job and his servants with him in all Israel.
00:59:54.000 And they destroyed the children of Ammon and besieged Rabbah.
00:59:57.620 But David tarried still at Jerusalem.
00:59:59.500 And it came to pass in an evening tide that David arose from off his bed and walked upon the roof of the king's house.
01:00:06.360 And from the roof, he saw a woman washing herself.
01:00:08.700 And the woman was very beautiful to look upon.
01:00:10.820 Sometimes I think about humanity and things don't change.
01:00:13.380 Like, this was porn in that day, like pornography.
01:00:15.720 Like, but only the king had it accessible.
01:00:17.420 Like, it's almost like the king kind of set up his setup so that he could, like, kind of go see stuff whenever he wanted.
01:00:24.400 I almost think that, bro.
01:00:25.420 I just think that that spirit is so heavy on people, man.
01:00:28.340 Like, this porn and desiring to watch the sex or have access to sex and sexiness all the time.
01:00:34.680 Like, it's like, yeah, only kings really had it like that before, dude.
01:00:38.240 And he, like, set up his life like that.
01:00:39.880 Well, did David set that up or did Saul set that up?
01:00:42.260 And it's like, that's an interesting idea because that's a structure that's in place already.
01:00:45.820 And now you're just inhabiting it.
01:00:47.180 And it's like a tool.
01:00:48.460 You're using it again.
01:00:49.620 Yeah, I don't know, man.
01:00:50.660 I don't know.
01:00:51.980 I don't know.
01:00:52.320 That's just what I think of, dude, is that, like, imagine, like, only kings had access to porn in that day.
01:00:56.840 And now every human on the planet.
01:00:58.560 Like, even when I was a kid, if you wanted porn, you had to go into, like, a gas station or you had to have a buddy's dad that you, like, stole it from, like, a magazine or something.
01:01:05.480 Like, now any human on the planet can just start pushing buttons on his phone and have it.
01:01:09.980 Like, that's crazy, bro.
01:01:12.100 Like, I don't know.
01:01:13.060 We're living in a rough day.
01:01:14.160 Like, again, when you guys talk about times where it's hard to be a Christian, I always say this is the most dangerous time and place ever in humanity to be a Christian.
01:01:22.420 Like, there's just a lot.
01:01:23.420 Do we have access to everything?
01:01:24.940 So we could either go, like, to the highest level or to the lowest level.
01:01:28.660 But it's going to be on steroids, whichever way we go.
01:01:31.280 And David sent and inquired after the woman.
01:01:33.140 And one said, bro, isn't this Bathsheba, the daughter of Elyon, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?
01:01:38.860 David, are you sure?
01:01:40.580 And David sent messengers and took her.
01:01:43.740 And she came in unto him, and he lay with her, for she was purified from her uncleanness.
01:01:47.820 And she returned unto her house.
01:01:50.320 And the woman conceived and sent and told David and said, I'm with a child.
01:01:55.520 This story is, like, so hard to read, man.
01:01:58.300 And David sent to Job, saying, send me Uriah the Hittite.
01:02:01.540 And Job sent Uriah to David.
01:02:03.380 And when Uriah was come unto him, David demanded of him how Job did and how the people did and how the war prospered.
01:02:08.320 And David said to Uriah, go down to your house and wash your feet.
01:02:11.600 And Uriah departed out of the king's house, and there followed him a mess of meat from the king.
01:02:16.520 So David's like, hey, man, go down and see your wife.
01:02:18.640 Here's a bunch of food.
01:02:19.660 Have a feast with her, man.
01:02:20.920 Have a good time, bro.
01:02:21.920 I appreciate you.
01:02:22.600 But Uriah slept at the door of the king's house with all the servants of his lord and didn't go down to his house.
01:02:32.940 Sorry, this passage is hard for me to read sometimes, man.
01:02:35.840 And when they had told David, saying, Uriah went not down unto his house, David said to Uriah, came us down not from your journey?
01:02:42.080 Why then did you not go down into your house?
01:02:46.100 And Uriah said unto David, the ark in Israel and Judah abide in tents.
01:02:49.820 And my lord Job and the servants of my lord are encamped in the open fields.
01:02:54.100 You think I'm just then going to go into my house to eat and drink and lay with my wife?
01:02:58.980 As thou live and as thy soul lives, I will not do this thing.
01:03:03.860 I don't know.
01:03:04.640 I just, like, at this point, it's like, does Uriah know?
01:03:07.500 I don't know.
01:03:07.820 I've thought about this passage so many times, dude.
01:03:09.620 And that had to prick David at his heart, bro.
01:03:12.360 Uriah's like, I'm no bitch, dude.
01:03:13.960 Like, the entire military of the armies of the kingdom of God is out there in the field.
01:03:18.180 I'm going to go lay with my wife.
01:03:20.280 You're going to go lay with my wife?
01:03:21.940 Yeah.
01:03:22.560 Think about this, dude.
01:03:24.240 And David said to Uriah, tear you here today also and tomorrow I'll let you depart.
01:03:27.900 So Uriah abode in Jerusalem that day and tomorrow.
01:03:30.420 And when David had called him again, he did eat and drink before him and he made him drunk.
01:03:36.060 Like, dude, David's doing everything he can to destroy this guy's character,
01:03:40.220 to crush him, to bring him down to David's level in this situation.
01:03:44.620 This is what's hard about this is, like, it just feels like this is, like, not like David.
01:03:50.300 It's the more you read of his life, before and after, it's just, it's a lot.
01:03:55.140 And it came to pass in the morning that David wrote a letter to Job and sent it by the hand of Uriah.
01:04:02.560 Dude, he doesn't even go down to, like, look at Bathsheba.
01:04:05.500 Like, Uriah's home.
01:04:07.040 Like, not only is he not going to lay with her, he doesn't even go there to, like, look at her and just say,
01:04:10.300 Hey, just want to tell you hi.
01:04:13.000 It came to pass in the morning that David wrote a letter to Job, who's in charge of the army,
01:04:16.340 and sent it by the hand of Uriah.
01:04:17.880 And he wrote in the letter saying,
01:04:19.200 Set Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle and retire from him, that he may be smitten and die.
01:04:25.580 It's almost like Uriah took shots at him.
01:04:27.880 I feel like Uriah knew this whole time.
01:04:29.940 Like, people knew, because she sent to David to say, Hey, I have a child.
01:04:34.120 I'm sure, like, some stuff got around in town.
01:04:36.120 You just, I don't know.
01:04:36.780 I just have this sneaking suspicion Uriah knew, and so, like, they sit down to eat,
01:04:41.340 and they're almost having, like, a stare down at the meal.
01:04:43.560 Well, you gotta, you also gotta think, yeah, there's messages being sent back and forth.
01:04:47.540 This guy traveled back from battle.
01:04:49.160 This is not the next day.
01:04:50.440 These, it's probably, like, months past.
01:04:51.980 Yeah, Uriah, I think he knows, dude.
01:04:54.100 Yeah.
01:04:54.460 And David's pissed, because Uriah punked him and put him in his place.
01:04:59.120 And it came to pass when Job observed the city that he assigned Uriah to a place where he knew that valiant men were.
01:05:04.380 And the men of the city went out and fought with Job, and there fell some of the people of the servants of David.
01:05:09.180 And Uriah the Hittite died also.
01:05:11.340 So now he's banged his wife, impregnated her, tried to get him drunk to go lay with her,
01:05:17.420 tried to just give him a bunch of food to have a feast,
01:05:19.820 so that when the child's born, they can say it's Uriah's child.
01:05:22.080 Like, that's the whole concept.
01:05:23.980 And now he has him killed.
01:05:26.480 You're just watching the story.
01:05:27.840 You're going, like, wait, what?
01:05:29.340 One of the greatest men of God that's ever existed?
01:05:32.280 He did what?
01:05:33.880 What?
01:05:34.960 Then Job sent and told David all the things concerning the war and charged the messenger,
01:05:38.740 saying, when you have made an end to telling the matters of the war unto the king,
01:05:41.780 and if so, be that the king's wrath arise,
01:05:44.280 because, like, the war is not going the way he wants it to.
01:05:46.740 And he says unto you,
01:05:47.960 Wherefore I approached you so close unto the city when you did fight?
01:05:51.520 Would you not know that they would shoot from the wall?
01:05:53.780 Who smote Abimelech?
01:05:54.720 This is a story from Judges 9.
01:05:56.280 The son of Jeroboosheth.
01:05:58.640 Did not a woman cast a piece of a millstone upon him from the wall that he died in Thebes?
01:06:02.420 He says, Why went you so close to the wall?
01:06:04.620 If David says all that to you,
01:06:06.060 then just hurry up and say to him that your servant Uriah died also.
01:06:09.640 Because that'll chill him out.
01:06:11.200 So the messenger went and came and showed David all that Job had sent him for.
01:06:14.380 And the messenger said unto David,
01:06:15.540 Surely the men prevailed against us and came out unto us in the field.
01:06:18.620 And we were upon them, even unto the entering of the gate.
01:06:21.020 And the shooters shot from off the wall upon the servants.
01:06:23.800 And some of the king's servants are dead,
01:06:25.620 and your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.
01:06:27.900 Then David said unto the messenger,
01:06:30.060 Thus shalt thou say unto Job,
01:06:31.800 Let not this thing displease you,
01:06:33.160 for the sword devours one as well as another.
01:06:35.440 Make the battle more strong against the city,
01:06:37.400 and overthrow it, and encourage him.
01:06:39.960 And when the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah, her husband, was dead,
01:06:43.240 she mourned for her husband.
01:06:45.040 And when the mourning was passed,
01:06:46.440 David sent and fetched her to his house,
01:06:48.040 and she became his wife,
01:06:49.220 and bare him a son.
01:06:50.180 But the thing that David did,
01:06:53.340 but the thing that David had done,
01:06:55.980 displeased the Lord.
01:07:00.920 This is this terrible passage, dude.
01:07:03.080 This is one of these passages you wish, like, didn't exist.
01:07:05.880 Like, you literally wish, like, when you read this whole story,
01:07:08.440 you're like, I just wish this story wasn't here.
01:07:10.960 I've read this story to my kids, like, their whole life growing up.
01:07:13.700 I've always read this story,
01:07:14.760 just so everybody understands, like, this is part of the Bible.
01:07:17.320 This is another one of those passages that, like,
01:07:19.660 you wouldn't put in a book if you were just trying to start a religion.
01:07:26.060 Like, why would you put, like, a story like this
01:07:27.600 after one of your great heroes?
01:07:30.000 I'm going to keep reading all the way through 18.
01:07:31.660 Do we have the time to go through 12, 18?
01:07:35.060 And the Lord sent Nathan unto David,
01:07:37.520 and he came unto him and said unto him,
01:07:39.020 there were two men in one city,
01:07:40.440 the one rich and the other poor.
01:07:42.400 The rich man had exceeding many flocks and herds,
01:07:45.060 but the poor man had nothing save one little ewe lamb,
01:07:49.080 which he had bought and nourished up,
01:07:52.440 and it grew up together with him and with his children,
01:07:55.240 and did eat of his own meat and drank of his own cup
01:07:57.600 and lay in his bosom and was unto him as a daughter.
01:08:00.060 So this rich guy, he's got tons of flocks and herds,
01:08:02.560 and then there's this poor guy,
01:08:03.560 he's got one lamb that lives in his house with him.
01:08:06.640 It's so close to him, it's all he's got.
01:08:08.940 And there came a traveler unto the rich man,
01:08:11.420 and he spared to take of his own flock,
01:08:13.240 this guy who's got tons of flocks and herds,
01:08:16.700 to dress for the wayfaring man that was come unto him.
01:08:19.380 But he took the poor man's lamb,
01:08:20.980 the one that lived in his house with him,
01:08:22.320 that was like his own child,
01:08:23.760 he took that lamb and dressed it for the man
01:08:25.920 that was come to him,
01:08:26.860 not even for himself, just for some traveling stranger.
01:08:29.240 He took the other guy's lamb
01:08:30.500 that was the most precious thing to him.
01:08:32.720 Nathan's telling this story to David,
01:08:34.640 and David's anger was greatly kindled against the man.
01:08:38.780 And he said to Nathan,
01:08:39.600 and as the Lord lives,
01:08:40.620 the man that has done this thing shall surely die.
01:08:44.660 And he shall restore the lamb fourfold,
01:08:46.760 because he did this thing,
01:08:47.860 and because he had no pity.
01:08:50.740 And Nathan said to David,
01:08:52.060 thou art the man.
01:08:54.660 Damn.
01:08:55.400 David's lucky that God's more merciful than David.
01:08:58.800 But this is crazy, man.
01:09:00.200 Look how hot David gets about this story,
01:09:02.400 and Nathan says,
01:09:03.060 no, bro, you're the man.
01:09:04.140 You're that man.
01:09:07.320 I anointed you king over Israel,
01:09:10.460 and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul,
01:09:12.580 and I gave you your master's house
01:09:14.200 and your master's wives into your bosom,
01:09:16.820 and gave you the house of Israel and of Judah.
01:09:21.860 And if that had been too little,
01:09:23.480 I would moreover have given unto thee anything.
01:09:27.940 He says,
01:09:28.580 I would have given unto thee such and such things.
01:09:30.240 Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the Lord
01:09:33.440 to do evil in his sight?
01:09:35.760 You've killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword,
01:09:37.780 and have taken his wife to be your wife,
01:09:39.400 and have slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.
01:09:42.600 Uriah was one of God's guys, dude.
01:09:44.860 And you let one of God's enemies kill Uriah?
01:09:49.020 Now, therefore, the sword shall never depart from your house.
01:09:51.880 Like, when you hear the story of Israel from this point on, dude,
01:09:55.100 this has affected everything in the history of Israel now.
01:09:58.280 Everything.
01:09:59.200 This is where the branch comes from,
01:10:01.340 where now we end up with, like, Judah and Benjamin on the one,
01:10:04.600 and then you end up with all of, like, Israel proper on the other.
01:10:06.760 This is the beginning of all of the divide and the chaos and the madness.
01:10:10.780 Now, therefore, the sword shall never depart from your house,
01:10:14.380 because you have despised me.
01:10:17.060 You didn't despise Uriah, David.
01:10:19.120 You despised me.
01:10:20.380 And you've taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.
01:10:23.620 Thus saith the Lord,
01:10:24.460 Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house.
01:10:27.460 Remember, we've talked about this before.
01:10:29.780 God goes to lengths to make sure you understand he's the one bringing it.
01:10:34.320 Thus saith the Lord,
01:10:35.100 Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house.
01:10:38.780 And I'll take your wives before your eyes and give them unto your neighbor.
01:10:42.520 And he shall lie with your wives in the side of the sun.
01:10:44.740 Because you did it secretly,
01:10:46.220 but I'm going to do this thing before all Israel and before the sun.
01:10:49.820 And David said unto Nathan,
01:10:51.020 I have sinned against the Lord.
01:10:53.080 This is what we do love about David, though, man.
01:10:54.880 He can repent.
01:10:56.000 Like, he doesn't try to make excuses.
01:10:58.320 Like, remember, Saul was king, and he just made excuses.
01:11:00.880 As soon as he was presented with his sin, he made excuses.
01:11:03.320 You look at the life of David.
01:11:04.840 When he's presented with the sin, he repents, man.
01:11:08.580 Thank God for that.
01:11:09.940 David said unto Nathan,
01:11:10.820 I have sinned against the Lord.
01:11:12.180 And Nathan said unto David,
01:11:13.320 The Lord has put away your sin.
01:11:15.220 You shall not die.
01:11:16.300 Because remember, David's curse against the man was that he must die.
01:11:20.740 And then, no, David's probably looking at Nathan going like this.
01:11:24.280 Like, am I about to drop right now?
01:11:26.000 Nathan says, no, no, man.
01:11:26.920 He's not going to smoke you right now.
01:11:28.480 He's not going to dust you.
01:11:29.740 So do you think that that was also available to Saul?
01:11:31.800 I mean, although he wouldn't have taken that route.
01:11:33.880 Yeah.
01:11:34.180 Because it's always available.
01:11:35.440 I wouldn't say always available, but it was up to a certain point.
01:11:38.660 Right.
01:11:40.480 Nathan said, and I like this story, bro,
01:11:42.200 because it's like sometimes, you know, God spoke directly to David.
01:11:45.380 But in this situation, he chose not to.
01:11:48.060 He chose to bring Nathan as if to say, hey, David, Nathan, like, you guys are boys.
01:11:52.960 David, you can trust Nathan, like, with your life.
01:11:55.640 You can trust him with everything, man.
01:11:57.180 And sometimes God does that.
01:11:58.300 Like, God can speak to you directly, but he'll send somebody else
01:12:00.660 just so he can build his church, just so he can build his body.
01:12:03.920 Say, hey, this is somebody you can trust, man.
01:12:06.300 Like, you need to trust him.
01:12:08.380 So he brought David and Nathan together like this.
01:12:12.200 How be it?
01:12:12.960 Because by this deed, you have given great occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme.
01:12:17.480 The child also that is born unto you shall surely die.
01:12:20.240 And Nathan departed unto his house, and the Lord struck the child.
01:12:24.660 A lot of people's theology won't allow for this verse right here.
01:12:27.640 The Lord struck the child.
01:12:30.900 Nathan departed unto his house, and the Lord struck the child.
01:12:33.540 That Uriah's wife bare unto David, and it was very sick.
01:12:37.200 The Lord struck the child sick.
01:12:39.380 David therefore besought God for the child.
01:12:43.200 And David fasted and went in and lay all night upon the earth.
01:12:46.060 And the elders of his house arose and went to him to raise him up from the earth.
01:12:50.800 But he would not.
01:12:52.240 Neither did he eat bread with them.
01:12:53.880 And it came to pass on the seventh day that the child died.
01:12:59.160 Okay, so that's the story of David and Bathsheba.
01:13:01.860 If you've never heard it, like, you need to know that that story exists.
01:13:04.560 I don't care.
01:13:12.980 So I don't know, man.
01:13:14.060 Like I said, this is like this gut-wrenching story to me.
01:13:16.860 And I look back at verse 27, chapter 11.
01:13:20.940 And it says,
01:13:21.960 The thing that David had done displeased the Lord.
01:13:24.200 And I just remember reading that one time and saying, like, what thing?
01:13:28.560 What do you mean, the thing?
01:13:31.300 Like, let's look at this story and, like, how many things is there, man?
01:13:35.740 It's a lot.
01:13:36.600 There's so many things that did this, dude.
01:13:38.840 Like, he kills a man.
01:13:41.800 He takes a man's wife.
01:13:44.100 He doesn't repent.
01:13:45.540 I mean, dude, it's nine months.
01:13:46.860 Like, they have a child.
01:13:47.840 It's nine months later until David repents, bro.
01:13:50.720 Nathan comes to him.
01:13:52.260 He's got the child.
01:13:53.420 It's been nine months David never repented.
01:13:55.320 You say, wait a minute.
01:13:57.920 What's the thing?
01:13:59.340 Because he did.
01:14:00.080 Maybe he didn't think what he did was wrong.
01:14:01.860 Here's what I'm getting back to.
01:14:03.100 Remember, the context is building and warring.
01:14:05.620 You have to go back to verse 1, dude.
01:14:07.820 It came to pass at the time after the year was expired,
01:14:11.120 at the time when kings go forth to battle.
01:14:13.400 David's a king.
01:14:14.440 This is the time when kings go forth to battle.
01:14:17.440 David doesn't go.
01:14:18.860 He sent Job.
01:14:20.500 He sent Job and his servants with him and all Israel,
01:14:22.700 and they destroyed the children of Ammon and besieged Rabbah.
01:14:25.080 But David tarried still at Jerusalem.
01:14:27.740 That's the issue, dude.
01:14:29.160 A man of God has to be either building or warring.
01:14:32.000 When you're in a war, you're in a war.
01:14:33.680 You're holding everything together,
01:14:34.880 some people would say, with, like, duct tape and prayer.
01:14:37.240 Like, you're in a war.
01:14:38.900 If you're not in a war, you need to be building.
01:14:41.040 This entire story, which is, like, the worst story to read,
01:14:44.320 it's like this gut-wrenching story to read,
01:14:46.760 and it makes you just sick.
01:14:48.640 It makes you sick to read this story.
01:14:50.200 It all happens because David's being idle,
01:14:53.080 and he's just chilling at the house.
01:14:55.240 You have to be progressing, man.
01:14:57.120 We talked about this before.
01:14:58.260 Grow or die, like, was the last episode.
01:15:00.740 Like, if you're not growing, it's because you're dead.
01:15:03.380 You have to be building and warring,
01:15:04.980 and that's what Jesus is laying down in that Luke 14 passage, man.
01:15:08.700 Count the cost, because as soon as you sign up for this,
01:15:10.740 you're going to be building and warring.
01:15:12.240 This is kind of what we came to in the shop,
01:15:14.760 a little inside baseball.
01:15:15.700 You asked me, like, what are we doing?
01:15:16.800 What are you doing?
01:15:17.420 What's the plan?
01:15:18.320 Yes.
01:15:18.740 And I go, well, right now we're building.
01:15:20.880 Like, I'm building, and I have my head down,
01:15:23.740 and I'm building.
01:15:24.660 Very focused on this.
01:15:26.040 What comes next?
01:15:27.220 I guess more worry.
01:15:27.940 We're trying to be more intentional about what exactly are we building.
01:15:30.520 Like, what do we want?
01:15:31.420 Do we just want something that people think is cool?
01:15:34.040 Do we have enough materials?
01:15:35.980 Are we ready to finish?
01:15:37.480 We want to know that.
01:15:38.240 70%.
01:15:38.680 No, we're about 100 in here now.
01:15:41.480 What?
01:15:41.960 But, yeah.
01:15:49.380 Yeah, I don't know, man.
01:15:50.640 That's a tough thing, and it all comes back to idleness.
01:15:54.240 And, like, sometimes people accept idleness or laziness like it's okay,
01:15:57.740 but the Bible doesn't accept idleness or laziness like it's okay.
01:16:00.740 It leads to danger, man.
01:16:02.180 I just want to make that point, man.
01:16:03.520 Like, you sign up for Christianity.
01:16:05.380 You sign up for this walk with Christ.
01:16:07.240 You're going to be building and warring until the end.
01:16:09.700 And if you're not doing one, you need to be doing the other.
01:16:12.580 And if you're not doing that one, you need to be doing the other one.
01:16:15.460 And if you're just idle, you have to ask yourself, like, what am I doing?
01:16:18.140 Am I building the church?
01:16:19.540 Am I warring because there's a kingdom of light and a kingdom of darkness?
01:16:22.840 Like, where am I at here?
01:16:24.320 Which, hopefully, for most of us, it'll be building, building, building with less time of war.
01:16:29.400 Hopefully, the majority of our life, we're not just constantly warring, warring, warring, warring.
01:16:33.260 Some of us might be, though.
01:16:34.580 Are we senselessly warring is a question that—
01:16:36.960 That's a whole other thing, yeah.
01:16:38.520 That's a whole other topic.
01:16:39.740 Who are we warring with?
01:16:40.700 Is it really relevant?
01:16:42.140 Are we warring with people that are never going to get it?
01:16:44.760 They're not part of the discussion.
01:16:46.160 Are we warring with people who are on our team, but now we're fighting over, like, the minutia?
01:16:50.140 Like, yeah, who is our war really against and what are we really doing?
01:16:53.260 We need to be very mindful of this because we don't want to have, like, say, David, Nathan comes to David.
01:16:58.580 David, God has sent Nathan to make them tight, and then David starts bickering with Nathan and fighting with Nathan.
01:17:03.440 God's like, no, no, no.
01:17:04.140 I sent him so you guys would be teammates.
01:17:05.940 I didn't send you guys to fight with one another.
01:17:07.780 Like, you were supposed to trust him, David.
01:17:09.620 So, yeah, all of the above.
01:17:11.060 All of the above.
01:17:11.780 But we're building a church.
01:17:13.220 Like, that's what we're doing.
01:17:14.060 The same way Noah was building an ark, we're building a church today.
01:17:17.860 Do we get tax discounts?
01:17:23.000 Stop.
01:17:24.780 I know what you're doing, and I don't like it.
01:17:27.460 All right, we're into verse 21.
01:17:28.980 Keep yourselves in the love of God.
01:17:31.100 I like this, Pat, this verse.
01:17:34.420 And I really hope that through all of this, we've been noticing, like, that, like, for example, verse 21 says, keep yourselves.
01:17:45.160 Verse 24 says, now, to him that is able to keep you.
01:17:49.000 There's always this balance, right?
01:17:50.640 There's always this balance of, like, keep yourselves, but just keep in mind you can't.
01:17:55.580 Verse 24 says, him that can keep you.
01:17:59.620 Right?
01:18:00.240 Keep yourselves in the love of God.
01:18:02.340 This is how I would take this.
01:18:03.500 It doesn't say put yourselves in the love of God.
01:18:05.700 You're already there.
01:18:06.700 You're already in there.
01:18:07.780 You're already there.
01:18:08.560 Endure, right?
01:18:09.680 Like we read in Mark already, he that endures unto the end.
01:18:12.700 Keep yourselves in the love of God.
01:18:14.040 Endure in the love of God.
01:18:15.480 One of the hard things about endurance is, like, you can't lose it.
01:18:18.080 You can't use it or learn it in, like, cemetery school.
01:18:21.540 The only way to build endurance in the Christian walk is to endure.
01:18:27.160 You can't build it.
01:18:28.860 Like, you can't build it any other way than enduring.
01:18:32.640 You can't be taught endurance.
01:18:34.920 Like, the only way to build endurance is to endure.
01:18:38.300 Keep yourselves in the love of God.
01:18:39.700 You don't put yourself there.
01:18:40.700 You're already there.
01:18:41.540 He's talking to the church.
01:18:43.060 But keep yourselves in the love of God.
01:18:45.180 Like, live or respond accordingly.
01:18:47.700 Right?
01:18:47.960 Make sure your life, make sure that your life is, like, well-kept.
01:18:53.400 You know how, like, when the bug company comes here, they always come in and they go,
01:18:57.380 dude, you guys keep this really nice.
01:18:59.400 Like, you guys don't have any bugs.
01:19:00.820 You're so clean in here for a coffee shop.
01:19:03.360 They're like, you know, we go into some restaurants.
01:19:05.060 It's crazy.
01:19:05.760 And they're like, this is very well-kept.
01:19:08.340 Right?
01:19:08.700 We understand the concept of, like, a well-kept coffee shop or, like, a woman who keeps her
01:19:13.900 house well-kept.
01:19:14.960 She keeps her house very nice.
01:19:16.580 It's like that.
01:19:17.600 Like, keep yourselves in the love of God.
01:19:19.680 Keep it well-kept.
01:19:20.520 Keep your life, like, well-kept.
01:19:22.440 Faith without works is dead.
01:19:23.760 So, like, live your faith.
01:19:24.940 This is going to build it.
01:19:26.000 Right?
01:19:26.580 Like, keep yourselves in the love of God.
01:19:30.000 I think that's the hardest thing, though.
01:19:31.600 This is like, you're talking about every day.
01:19:34.200 This is not a thing that you just do and then put away.
01:19:36.940 This is something that you do every day consistently, ritually.
01:19:40.440 It's easy for people to fall off of that.
01:19:42.820 Yes.
01:19:43.800 Yes.
01:19:44.180 But that's why, like, real preaching is encouraging and bringing things up and bringing things
01:19:48.700 to people's memory, things they may already know.
01:19:51.200 Like, keep this going.
01:19:52.120 It's not enough just this one-day-a-week thing.
01:19:54.280 We need to be doing this.
01:19:55.320 Like, if there is going to be buildings that people pay for, land and buildings that people
01:19:59.000 pay for, at least have something in there seven days a week.
01:20:01.660 Don't do it one day a week.
01:20:02.840 Like, at least have something going on for people to come in.
01:20:06.700 Maybe some people can only make it on Tuesdays.
01:20:08.660 Maybe some people can only make it on Fridays.
01:20:10.320 Maybe some people can only make it on Mondays.
01:20:11.740 Maybe some people can only make it on Sundays.
01:20:13.160 But have stuff going on, like, seven days a week, like, helping people, because this
01:20:18.280 is a big thing, man, to keep themselves in the love of God, to keep themselves on track.
01:20:25.040 In defense of the church, I will say some of them do.
01:20:27.620 Some of them do that.
01:20:28.520 Amen for that.
01:20:29.080 It's not, like, typically what the people in the United States expect of the church.
01:20:36.320 There's a misconception, but they are open.
01:20:38.320 They are doing stuff, a lot of them, a lot of days a week.
01:20:41.340 People don't participate in it.
01:20:42.820 They want to do the one thing.
01:20:44.140 And I think, I don't know why the misconception is there.
01:20:48.240 You've got to build people up on truth, dude.
01:20:50.040 If you build them up with this idea that, like, we're going to have pizza parties and
01:20:53.140 bounce houses and slides in the lobby, then that's what you end up with.
01:20:56.540 There's people who are attracted to that.
01:20:57.780 But that's why Jesus didn't preach like that.
01:20:59.520 He said, make sure you're ready for this.
01:21:01.580 Make sure you're ready to go to war.
01:21:03.640 Otherwise, do not sign up.
01:21:05.780 So if all you do is this foo-foo message, then you just bring in a ton of people that
01:21:09.300 don't want the seven days, right?
01:21:12.220 But if you bring people in on the truth, because some people say, oh, yeah, but this
01:21:15.520 501c3 system is good for newbies, like new people.
01:21:19.220 I don't know, man.
01:21:20.220 I don't know.
01:21:20.840 It seems like okay for new people.
01:21:22.820 It kind of brings them in.
01:21:23.820 But if you build them up on a fake faith in the beginning, then was it really
01:21:27.760 good for them in the end?
01:21:28.880 I don't know.
01:21:29.680 It doesn't look like that's what Jesus did.
01:21:31.600 He goes hard, like right from the jump, says, make sure before you even think about signing
01:21:36.160 up for this, make sure you're willing to sacrifice your entire being for this.
01:21:41.380 Do you see what I'm saying?
01:21:42.040 So if you don't bring them in like that, don't be surprised that they don't live like
01:21:45.060 that.
01:21:46.100 Don't be surprised that they don't stay the course.
01:21:47.960 Don't be surprised that they're weak, soft people 20, 30 years down the road.
01:21:51.740 You brought them in on like fake stuff.
01:21:54.700 Yeah.
01:21:55.240 That raises the question of, are we meeting people where they're at or are you showing
01:22:00.300 them firmly?
01:22:01.120 This is what is expected.
01:22:03.820 Yeah.
01:22:04.100 And there's this misconception, man, that like there's these so-called seeker friendly
01:22:08.280 churches.
01:22:08.720 Like this is madness, bro.
01:22:10.220 Like nobody can come to God unless he draws them first.
01:22:13.680 So there's not really even such a thing as a seeker.
01:22:16.180 Like the only way you're seeking is if God's drawing you.
01:22:20.260 So if you're trying to make up this thing to get people to like it, bro, you're bringing
01:22:23.860 them in on a straight falsehood.
01:22:25.680 Like you're bringing them in on something fake.
01:22:28.080 But if God is really drawing somebody, then just preach the word of God with fire.
01:22:32.240 Bring it, bring the fire and hammer and just preach hard.
01:22:35.120 Just bring it to it because those people God's drawing, they'll respond to the truth.
01:22:39.840 They won't respond to playtime.
01:22:41.480 Like all the people that are responding to playtime, that's, that's not good.
01:22:46.980 Let's keep going.
01:22:47.900 Looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life, right?
01:22:53.880 Looking with the goal in view.
01:22:55.680 Like you're saying, we've been talking about goals.
01:22:57.480 Like, do we have any short-term goals?
01:22:59.020 Do we have any long-term goals?
01:23:01.180 But we're looking with the goal in view, the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal
01:23:06.080 life.
01:23:06.480 Remember, this is life eternal.
01:23:07.940 John 17, three, that they may know thee, the only true God and Jesus Christ who now has
01:23:14.020 sent.
01:23:14.500 That's eternal life.
01:23:16.180 That is life eternal, knowing God.
01:23:18.980 Not knowing doctrine, not knowing theology, which is great.
01:23:21.880 Everybody wants to know doctrine and theology.
01:23:23.320 That's great.
01:23:23.760 But eternal life is knowing God.
01:23:25.400 Let's look at Luke 11, 34 through 36.
01:23:33.760 I don't know that a lot of people necessarily understand this concept.
01:23:39.560 I know a lot of people don't understand this concept.
01:23:41.580 So it's Luke 11, 34 through 36.
01:23:46.140 It goes like this.
01:23:47.100 Notice you would think right here where it says, uh, when the eye is evil, that like on
01:24:05.760 the sentence before that, it would have said, uh, the opposite.
01:24:10.080 It would have said when your eye is good, right?
01:24:13.760 You think you'd have like when your eye is good and when your eye is evil, but Jesus uses
01:24:18.420 this language.
01:24:18.900 He says, when your eye is single.
01:24:20.400 And he compares that was when your eye is evil, the light of the body is the eye.
01:24:25.680 Therefore, when your eye is single, your whole body is full of light.
01:24:28.820 But when your eye is evil, the body is full of darkness.
01:24:31.900 Is he talking about aim, aim, like what it's focused on, it's singularly focused on one
01:24:36.720 thing rather than the evil being a multitude of things.
01:24:41.400 This is profound.
01:24:42.780 This is profound.
01:24:43.880 Take heed, therefore, that the light which is in you be not darkness.
01:24:47.800 So you could have that light in you, but it's darkness.
01:24:51.000 So hold on.
01:24:51.520 Let's unpack this.
01:24:52.240 Let's unpack this.
01:24:53.400 If thy whole body, therefore, be full of light, having no part dark, single, right?
01:24:59.580 Don't have the light and the darkness.
01:25:01.400 Have the light and have no part dark.
01:25:05.600 If your whole body, therefore, be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall
01:25:09.200 be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle does give thee light.
01:25:13.320 Okay, look at this, man.
01:25:16.880 Hebrews 12, 2 says, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, right?
01:25:21.840 That's being single.
01:25:23.840 We're looking to Jesus, just Jesus.
01:25:27.260 We got into this yesterday, not Jesus plus.
01:25:30.320 That would be light and darkness in the body.
01:25:33.560 This says, keep your whole body single, right?
01:25:38.780 Keep your eyes single.
01:25:41.380 Don't have light and darkness.
01:25:43.540 Don't have Jesus plus, right?
01:25:46.280 What are we talking about when we say Jesus plus?
01:25:48.220 The Mount Carmel showdown with Elijah?
01:25:49.900 Was he talking to the lost world?
01:25:52.240 Was he talking to the lost nations that didn't know God?
01:25:55.080 No.
01:25:55.280 No.
01:25:55.640 Was he saying, you guys don't know God?
01:25:57.860 No.
01:25:58.320 He was saying you can't serve God and Baal.
01:26:01.760 He's talking to Israel.
01:26:03.180 Yeah.
01:26:03.620 You can't serve God, the true living God, and Baal.
01:26:07.800 Do you see what I'm saying?
01:26:09.120 That your eye's not single if you're serving God and Baal.
01:26:12.020 You know, we have a system today that incorporates Jesus, but worships all kinds of other stuff.
01:26:18.460 It's called Catholic.
01:26:19.300 There's a Catholic system, right?
01:26:21.160 Yeah, Jesus is incorporated, but we're also going to worship Mary or venerate Mary, saints, all these other things.
01:26:27.580 We broke it down yesterday, right?
01:26:29.860 Jesus said you can't serve God and mammon.
01:26:31.900 All these things keep coming back to it must be just Jesus.
01:26:35.780 It must be God who you're serving, not God plus something else.
01:26:40.800 Like in my own story, I remember reading a book on world religions that my brother had, and I was like reading this stuff.
01:26:48.080 I was like, oh, okay, cool, man, whatever.
01:26:49.540 I read a little bit about Hindu, Buddhism.
01:26:52.780 I was reading about Judaism.
01:26:54.180 I was reading all this stuff.
01:26:54.840 I was like, oh, that's cool, and then I'll just like kind of read the Bible, too, and I'll kind of mix them together.
01:26:58.440 I remember thinking that.
01:26:59.620 You're doing a coexist thing?
01:27:00.900 Yeah, that's what I thought back then, bro.
01:27:02.620 And then I got a Bible, and I was like, oh, dude, this does not mix.
01:27:06.680 This does not mix.
01:27:08.560 Two things that came over me when I first got a Bible, I was like, this does not mix with anything else, and this is definitely the truth.
01:27:16.180 I don't know what to do with it, but this is definitely the truth.
01:27:18.580 Not only does it not mix, I'd say that it stands in contradiction to most of, like, yeah, everything, even its closest brother, Judaism.
01:27:28.020 So we got to be careful with that.
01:27:29.260 It can't be Jesus plus something else.
01:27:31.420 Your eye has to be single.
01:27:33.460 Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.
01:27:36.140 Some people, like, they commit adultery, and they say, oh, but David did, like the story we just read.
01:27:41.080 It's not what the Scripture says.
01:27:42.040 It doesn't say looking unto David.
01:27:43.780 It says looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.
01:27:46.980 Like, that's what we're focused on.
01:27:49.080 We're not mixing in anything else.
01:27:51.440 We don't mix.
01:27:52.220 Everybody's mixing in Jesus now.
01:27:53.560 What the chick said with the Palladian Jesus or something, or the Ascended Master, or whatever.
01:27:58.040 Like, everybody's mixing.
01:27:59.140 It's Jesus plus.
01:28:00.280 Everybody's like, no, no, I'm cool with Jesus.
01:28:01.500 No, no, no.
01:28:02.140 It's Jesus only.
01:28:03.320 It's like a streaming service.
01:28:04.680 It's Jesus only, bro.
01:28:05.860 Like, that's what he's saying.
01:28:06.700 Your eye must be single.
01:28:07.960 This is why they had to kill him, dude.
01:28:09.560 Yeah.
01:28:10.140 Because he's speaking firmly.
01:28:11.900 He's telling you exactly what it is.
01:28:13.640 Yes.
01:28:15.100 All right.
01:28:15.320 What if we look at John 3, 14 and 15?
01:28:18.340 Because I really want to unpack this looking thing.
01:28:20.940 Looking unto Jesus.
01:28:22.540 John 3, 14 and 15.
01:28:24.220 Everybody knows these passages.
01:28:27.220 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted.
01:28:33.320 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
01:28:37.060 Amen.
01:28:37.960 Amen.
01:28:39.600 That whosoever believes.
01:28:42.180 Right?
01:28:42.460 But what's he referencing?
01:28:47.160 Moses.
01:28:48.260 Right.
01:28:48.800 In the wilderness.
01:28:50.140 Right?
01:28:50.620 As he lifted the serpent.
01:28:52.020 Mm-hmm.
01:28:52.560 Yeah.
01:28:52.900 As Moses lifted the serpent, that's what he's referencing.
01:28:55.940 He's saying, in the same way shall the Son of Man be lifted up, that whosoever believes on him will be saved.
01:29:02.020 So now we're in Numbers 21, right?
01:29:03.960 Yeah.
01:29:05.040 All right.
01:29:05.280 Numbers 21, 4 through 9.
01:29:07.220 Yes, sir.
01:29:07.660 And they journeyed from the Mount Hor by the way over the Red Sea to compass the land of Edom.
01:29:14.900 And the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.
01:29:18.320 And the people spoke against God and against Moses.
01:29:21.880 Wherefore have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness?
01:29:24.800 For there's no bread, neither is there any water.
01:29:26.760 And our soul loathes this light bread.
01:29:29.480 And the Lord sent fiery serpents.
01:29:32.260 I'm not saying that's dragons.
01:29:33.600 I'm just saying it.
01:29:34.240 They're called fiery serpents.
01:29:35.440 The Lord sent fiery serpents among the people.
01:29:38.380 And they bit the people, and much people of Israel died.
01:29:41.420 Therefore the people came to Moses and said, we have sinned, for we have spoken against the Lord.
01:29:45.420 Look at this repentance.
01:29:46.620 And against you.
01:29:47.320 Pray unto the Lord that he take away the serpents from us.
01:29:50.360 And Moses prayed for the people as a true intercessor.
01:29:53.500 They hated Moses, and he would still intercede for them.
01:29:55.500 And the Lord said unto Moses, make a fiery serpent and set it upon a pole, and it shall come to pass that everyone that is bitten, when he looks upon it, shall live.
01:30:07.700 And Moses made a serpent of brass and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass that if a serpent had bitten any man when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.
01:30:15.060 Notice this difference, man.
01:30:19.900 Notice that in this story, it's anyone who looks upon it.
01:30:23.220 But when Jesus tells it, he said, it's any man who believes.
01:30:27.200 Like, there's this connection between what you're continually looking at and focused on.
01:30:33.460 Remember, your eye must be single.
01:30:35.360 Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.
01:30:38.020 And there is this connection between what your gaze is on, what your focus is on.
01:30:43.440 Your orientation.
01:30:44.060 Your orientation.
01:30:44.580 Yes.
01:30:45.780 It's a great word.
01:30:46.820 Your orientation.
01:30:47.660 What is your orientation towards?
01:30:51.520 Towards one, Jesus.
01:30:53.860 Right?
01:30:54.420 Looking, focused, gaze, attention.
01:30:59.440 There's a connection between that and faith.
01:31:02.620 Jesus is saying that.
01:31:03.700 He's saying, like, in the same way Moses did it, he lifted up the serpent of brass that was a type of Christ.
01:31:10.500 If you looked on it, you were saved.
01:31:12.040 In the same way, if you believe, if you have faith, you'll be saved.
01:31:15.820 So what are we looking at?
01:31:17.700 What are we focused on?
01:31:18.700 It must be on Jesus, single.
01:31:21.220 Not Jesus plus.
01:31:23.920 Okay, let's look at 2 Peter 3, 12 through 14.
01:31:29.200 Looking.
01:31:32.880 Hold on.
01:31:33.380 I didn't mean to cut you off.
01:31:34.080 But just look at this Colossians 3 real quick.
01:31:35.900 I'm just going to say it real quick.
01:31:37.020 If you then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above.
01:31:40.580 Like, seek, look at, focus on, set your gaze upon, those things which are above, where Christ sits on the right hand of God.
01:31:50.080 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
01:31:54.540 Stop with your focus being on the things of the earth, because you are dead and your life is hid with Christ and God.
01:31:59.560 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall you also appear with him in glory.
01:32:05.620 So set your affections on things above, not on things of the earth.
01:32:12.520 Sorry about that.
01:32:13.300 Now we're in 2 Peter 3.
01:32:16.640 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of the Lord, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat.
01:32:25.780 Why is that a question?
01:32:26.680 What is he saying there?
01:32:28.600 There's no question.
01:32:29.880 Oh, there's a question mark?
01:32:31.660 Yeah.
01:32:32.840 Oh, okay.
01:32:33.340 Sorry.
01:32:33.600 We had to go back over.
01:32:34.420 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be?
01:32:38.560 That's the question.
01:32:39.760 How should you be acting?
01:32:41.220 Should you be acting like all the stuff in the temporary realm is really that important?
01:32:45.560 Seeing then that all these things are going to be dissolved, you know, like in the Avenger movie when the guy goes like that and the stuff just goes, whoosh.
01:32:52.040 Hey, man, all this stuff's going to dissolve like that.
01:32:54.320 Okay, if you know that, what should you be acting like in your life?
01:32:58.580 Should you really be so focused on living in a mansion and having the fancy boat and having the fancy truck and having all the fancy stuff?
01:33:05.180 Like, is that really your focus?
01:33:08.040 I'm not saying it's bad if you have those things, but is that your focus?
01:33:10.780 What manner of persons ought you to be in all holy conversation and godliness?
01:33:15.740 Looking for.
01:33:16.540 This is what we're getting at.
01:33:17.420 Looking for and hasting under the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved and the elements shall melt with fervent heat.
01:33:27.260 Nevertheless, we, according to his promise, look for.
01:33:32.120 This is what we're looking for.
01:33:33.600 New heavens and a new earth wherein dwells righteousness.
01:33:36.100 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that you look for such things, be diligent that you may be found of him in peace without spot and blameless.
01:33:46.640 This is what Jude's talking about in the beginning.
01:33:48.920 Earnestly contend for the faith.
01:33:51.140 He's saying, be diligent that you may be found of him in peace without spot and blameless.
01:33:56.280 All right, so we're looking for the king and therefore his kingdom.
01:34:06.920 Like these passages that are talking about looking for this coming kingdom and new heavens and new earth, that's simply because we're looking at the king and that's his kingdom.
01:34:15.440 Okay, now we're back to Jude.
01:34:16.820 We're wrapping this up.
01:34:17.680 We're so close.
01:34:18.960 We're so close.
01:34:20.260 A little tidbit of information here.
01:34:21.820 If you look at the sigil of Lucifer, it's the diagram of the eyeball, which is actually very interesting.
01:34:29.260 I don't know who made it, but the sideways diagram of an eyeball and how vision comes into the cornea and reflects back, that's actually the sigil of Lucifer.
01:34:37.740 It's kind of like a triangle with a circle there.
01:34:41.040 So it's almost like whatever is coming into your eyes, that's like this weird temptation.
01:34:46.880 I feel like this might also be the battle that we're constantly fighting.
01:34:49.600 It's like the things that we have to perceive, we have to perceive it as one with God, but the way we're designed in this physical realm, it is coming through this, like it's coming through this physical realm that we're perceiving it first in this weird way that is not.
01:35:06.900 And now more than any other time period.
01:35:11.000 I mean, imagine a couple hundred years ago, you live on a farm, you're only perceiving like what's going on around you in the natural world and like what you have access to right in front of your face.
01:35:20.420 Bro, we have access to stuff from around the planet right now at all times, like from this, like it's with us all the time.
01:35:27.460 Our filter has to be so fast.
01:35:29.340 Like from the things coming into your eyeballs to what's perceived by our bodies inside of our temple, it's almost impossible, dude.
01:35:36.980 It's overwhelming.
01:35:38.220 Some would say it is impossible unless God is living through you.
01:35:41.560 Like that's the whole context.
01:35:42.960 Like you can't fulfill the law.
01:35:44.640 You can't fulfill the requirements of the law in your own being, in yourself.
01:35:49.280 God living through you is the only way.
01:35:51.400 Like that's what I'm saying.
01:35:54.400 We're not, it's not like we're Christians and that makes us really good at not doing bad stuff.
01:35:58.340 It's like, no, we're Christians and we've surrendered our whole being to God and let him live through us.
01:36:04.060 Okay, so now we're in 22 and 23, which says, and of some have compassion, making a difference, and others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
01:36:15.960 So there's this concept that like you're not going to live this Christian life alone without saving and helping others, right?
01:36:24.020 We're building his body.
01:36:26.520 Like Christian life is spent helping others, guiding others, saving others out of the fire, right?
01:36:32.740 Let's look at 1 Corinthians 9, 19 through 23 to see how Paul kind of explains this.
01:36:37.540 It says, for though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all that I might gain the more.
01:36:47.080 That's Paul's life summed up actually in a sentence.
01:36:49.760 For though I be free, I don't know anybody anything.
01:36:52.200 Paul says, I don't have any debt.
01:36:53.580 I don't know anybody anything.
01:36:56.180 But even at that, I've made myself a servant unto everyone.
01:36:59.800 Not to some, not just to big shots, not to people who can give something back to me.
01:37:03.560 I've made myself a servant to all of humanity, even though I don't owe anybody anything.
01:37:09.940 That I might gain the more.
01:37:12.020 Gain them to what?
01:37:12.680 To Christ.
01:37:14.680 And under the Jews, I became as a Jew.
01:37:18.000 Are people willing to become as a Jew to save the Jews?
01:37:23.000 And under the Jews, I became as a Jew that I might gain the Jews.
01:37:27.060 To them that are under the law is under the law that I might gain them that are under the law.
01:37:33.560 Like, I think an easier way for us to understand this today is like, are you so much of a Republican that you can't win a Democrat to Christ?
01:37:40.680 Do you see what I'm saying?
01:37:41.360 Like, people just have these identities.
01:37:42.620 They're like, I'm this.
01:37:43.920 I like this.
01:37:44.780 I drive this kind of car.
01:37:46.220 I live in this kind of neighborhood.
01:37:47.260 I go to this kind of church.
01:37:48.680 You're welcome in my church as long as you're just like me.
01:37:51.460 We see that a lot here.
01:37:52.660 We see that a lot here.
01:37:53.720 Just with people who are like, yeah, we want you to come to our church as long as you're just like me.
01:37:57.080 Like, if you're a homeless person or just even a poor person, but you have a house and maybe you have different political views, different socioeconomic status, we don't really want you in our church.
01:38:07.420 You see that a lot in American church.
01:38:10.280 Paul's saying, like, am I so much of a Republican that I can't win Democrats?
01:38:14.080 Do I love the Georgia Bulldogs so much that I can't win somebody who's an Alabama fan?
01:38:18.240 He's saying, like, no, no, man.
01:38:20.700 Make yourself a servant to all.
01:38:22.360 Some.
01:38:47.060 Some.
01:38:48.040 Some.
01:38:49.140 I'm willing to lose everything.
01:38:50.900 Not in the hope I'm going to save all of humanity, but that I might at least rescue one or two, man, out of the fire.
01:38:57.300 Do you see what I'm saying?
01:38:57.860 Like, that's Paul's heart.
01:39:00.420 This I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.
01:39:04.640 This is the gospel's sake.
01:39:05.940 That's what Jude's saying in 22 and 23.
01:39:07.860 We've got to save some people.
01:39:09.120 We've got to save some with compassion and some with fear.
01:39:11.480 But we've got to live our life in such a way that we're a sacrifice to save others.
01:39:17.040 Like, you guys make fun of me because I talk to everybody.
01:39:19.280 Like, I find common ground with everybody.
01:39:22.520 This is probably really where I got a lot of it from, was just, like, reading the scripture and being like, okay, I get what Paul's saying.
01:39:28.540 He's saying, like, find common ground with humans.
01:39:31.480 Like, find that, whatever it may be.
01:39:33.920 Don't be so much of a Republican that you can't save Democrats.
01:39:37.240 Don't be so much of a Georgia Bulldog fan that you can't save Alabama fans.
01:39:40.160 Like, don't be so tied to anything in the earth, man, that you can't save.
01:39:44.520 No matter what it takes, come hell or high water, save some.
01:39:47.480 I'm willing to sacrifice everything that I might save some.
01:39:53.340 Okay, 1 Tim 4.16 says something wild, too.
01:39:56.920 Take heed unto thyself and unto the doctrine.
01:40:02.640 Continue in them, for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself and them that hear thee.
01:40:07.920 You're not alone.
01:40:09.000 This isn't just about you.
01:40:10.500 The Christian life is not just about you.
01:40:13.460 Yeah, you're going to save yourself, man.
01:40:15.040 Take heed unto yourself and unto the doctrine, the teaching, which you've gotten.
01:40:19.220 Continue in it.
01:40:20.420 Don't just take it and say, oh, I'm good.
01:40:22.200 No, continue in it.
01:40:23.940 Because if you continue in it and doing this, you'll save yourself.
01:40:27.640 But guess what?
01:40:28.180 As you continue in that life, you're going to save the others that hear you.
01:40:33.400 It's not just about you, man.
01:40:35.440 You've got to understand there's other people whose lives are at stake depending on how you walk this out.
01:40:41.380 Who's on your ship?
01:40:44.220 Let's look at 2 Corinthians 5, 10 through 11.
01:40:52.060 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that everyone may receive the things done in his body.
01:40:59.160 According to that, he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
01:41:04.340 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men.
01:41:07.320 But we are made manifest unto God, and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.
01:41:12.940 Yeah.
01:41:13.400 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men.
01:41:17.600 Others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire.
01:41:20.400 Knowing the terror of the Lord, we persuade men.
01:41:23.940 Like, this is not our modern churches preaching the terror of the Lord and persuading men.
01:41:28.880 You do not want the terror of the Lord.
01:41:30.540 The context is the judgment seat.
01:41:32.360 We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ.
01:41:35.900 Yeah, Christ, the judge.
01:41:37.180 You know Jesus, the judge?
01:41:38.720 Not Jesus, the buddy that you do the high fives and you go through the McDonald's drive-thru and get saved and it just happens that quick.
01:41:44.200 No, Jesus, the judge.
01:41:45.220 We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that everyone may receive the things done in his body, in his life, in his entire being.
01:41:53.600 According to that, he has done, whether it's good or bad.
01:41:56.400 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men.
01:42:00.040 Like, we know the terror of the Lord, we persuade men.
01:42:02.660 Hey, man, come to this side.
01:42:04.200 Come to this side.
01:42:05.720 If they don't take it, whatever.
01:42:06.920 But we do what we can to persuade men.
01:42:10.600 It's crazy how legalistic this stuff is.
01:42:12.740 What do you mean legalistic?
01:42:14.140 We have a judge.
01:42:14.800 We have a courtroom.
01:42:15.560 You have the lawyers, the accusers.
01:42:17.520 Yeah, it's very real.
01:42:18.600 Yeah, it's real.
01:42:19.200 Yeah, I know.
01:42:19.560 People think that, like, spirit realm stuff is just la-la-la.
01:42:22.020 It's whatever you think it is.
01:42:23.040 No, no, no.
01:42:23.480 It's very real.
01:42:24.300 It's more real than this realm.
01:42:25.580 It's more real than, like, touchable things.
01:42:27.580 This realm was made from that realm.
01:42:29.760 That realm is incredibly real.
01:42:31.220 Like, all of the structures that we have here, this is just the shadow of the things in the unseen, man.
01:42:36.440 I wanted to ask you, when we read the scripture about Jesus, like, Jesus came and he came in this body, even though he's kind of like, I don't really want to, like, I'm giving up a lot to come here.
01:42:48.660 I was, like, way better off in this other realm.
01:42:50.920 But these other entities seem to revel in being in this realm.
01:42:55.180 Why?
01:42:56.440 Wreaking havoc.
01:42:57.980 That's it?
01:42:58.660 Like, that's their whole thing?
01:43:00.640 I mean, dude, if they know that, remember, hell was made for Satan and his angels.
01:43:07.360 This story is going to come to an end at some point.
01:43:09.520 They have a limited amount of time to take as drag as many people with them to hell as they can.
01:43:14.180 And so it's just spite.
01:43:15.420 Yeah.
01:43:15.820 And ultimately, hell, which gets thrown in the lake of fire.
01:43:20.340 With the darkness that never ends.
01:43:22.080 With the fire that never ends.
01:43:23.980 These are different ways that the Bible describes the ultimate destination for those who don't know God.
01:43:29.020 Kirk Cameron doesn't see it that way, but all right.
01:43:30.620 But either way, that's their goal, man.
01:43:35.280 It's, like, just taking as many with them as they can.
01:43:38.680 It's weird.
01:43:39.380 And it's probably just, like, humans.
01:43:42.340 Like, humans have an idea that this story is real, the Bible's real, but they don't want to deal with the reality of that.
01:43:47.200 They just want to keep living how they want to live.
01:43:49.600 There's probably an element of that as well.
01:43:52.500 You know, it's just like, yeah, that's, like, this fun way to live, man.
01:43:55.860 And it's just live in chaos and sin and drag others to hell with them.
01:44:01.820 All right.
01:44:02.720 We're so close to wrapping up.
01:44:04.360 Acts 27, 9 through 44.
01:44:06.620 This is, like, another heavy passage for me, man, that I just remember from a long time ago.
01:44:11.360 I'm glad it's coming up now.
01:44:14.200 This is Paul on his voyage to Rome.
01:44:16.180 Now, when much time was spent and when sailing was now dangerous because the fast was now already passed, Paul admonished them and said unto them,
01:44:23.100 Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives.
01:44:29.540 So Paul's telling these guys that are in charge of the ship that's taking him and other soldiers, other prisoners to Rome.
01:44:36.940 Hey, man, I got a bad feeling about this is what Paul's saying.
01:44:40.000 Nevertheless, the centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship.
01:44:43.260 That's, like, the captain of the ship.
01:44:44.680 He said, no, no, we'll be fine.
01:44:46.140 More than those things that were spoken by Paul.
01:44:48.060 After all, Paul is just a spiritual man.
01:44:49.740 He doesn't have any credentials.
01:44:51.080 He doesn't have letters behind his name.
01:44:52.940 He doesn't have, he's not a professional.
01:44:54.520 He's just a spiritual man.
01:44:55.640 What does he know?
01:44:56.640 Is he also a prisoner at this point?
01:44:58.620 And he's a prisoner.
01:44:59.500 Yeah, so kind of shut up, right?
01:45:00.900 Yeah.
01:45:01.500 And because the haven was not commodious to winter and the more part advised to depart there also,
01:45:05.660 and if by any means they might attain to Fennis and there to winter,
01:45:09.640 which is a haven of Crete and lies toward the southwest and northwest.
01:45:13.300 And when the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose,
01:45:18.140 loosing there, they sailed close by Crete.
01:45:20.060 So they're just, this is the story of them sailing along.
01:45:21.900 But not long after, there arose against it a tempestuous wind called Euryclidon.
01:45:26.660 And when the ship was caught and could not bear up into the wind, we let her drive.
01:45:30.360 You probably have some people that could come on and talk about Euryclidon.
01:45:33.100 Yeah, that's something.
01:45:34.160 I'm sure you've got people that know exactly what that's referring to.
01:45:37.840 Yeah, that one sticks out.
01:45:39.320 And when the ship was caught and could not bear up into the wind, we let her drive.
01:45:42.780 And running onto a certain island, which is called Clotta, we had much work to come by the boat,
01:45:47.240 which when they had taken up, they used helps, undergirding the ship and fearing lest they should fall into the quicksand.
01:45:52.100 Remember quicksand when you used to watch cartoons when you were a kid?
01:45:54.560 Because we should fall into the quicksand and strike sail, and so we're driven.
01:45:59.120 And we being exceedingly tossed with a tempest, the next day they lightened the ship.
01:46:03.360 They started throwing stuff out.
01:46:04.460 In the third day, we cast out with our own hands the tackling of the ship.
01:46:08.580 And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, bro, they didn't see anything but a storm for many days.
01:46:14.700 They didn't see the sun or stars or anything.
01:46:16.820 Like, that's how crazy the storm was.
01:46:19.140 And no small tempest lay upon us.
01:46:21.780 All hope that we should be saved was taken away.
01:46:25.320 That's a rough place to be at.
01:46:26.720 There's people who live like that today.
01:46:28.080 They have just no hope.
01:46:29.980 But after long abstinence, Paul stood forth in the midst of them and said,
01:46:33.680 Sirs, you should have hearkened unto me.
01:46:36.980 I told you in the beginning we shouldn't have did this.
01:46:39.100 That's what he said.
01:46:39.700 You should have hearkened unto me.
01:46:41.080 He didn't do anything.
01:46:42.320 They're, like, throwing stuff off the ship.
01:46:43.780 He was abstaining from doing anything, just sitting watching.
01:46:47.100 No, I don't know.
01:46:47.980 I don't know.
01:46:48.560 I think he'd...
01:46:49.240 I don't know.
01:46:49.760 That after long abstinence, it's a good question.
01:46:51.800 Yeah, like, he just kind of refrained from everything.
01:46:53.820 It's kind of funny to sit back and say, like, I told you so.
01:46:55.600 No, I don't know.
01:46:56.140 I always read it like he's just chilling, like, down below.
01:47:00.160 He's just chilling, man.
01:47:01.160 He's just in meditation with God.
01:47:02.960 He's just chilling.
01:47:03.980 He's not doing anything.
01:47:05.420 He's not freaking out.
01:47:06.860 He's not...
01:47:07.400 He's like, whatever.
01:47:08.680 After long abstinence, Paul stood up in the midst and said,
01:47:11.780 Sirs, you should have listened to me and not have loosed from Crete
01:47:14.460 and have gained this harm and loss.
01:47:16.060 And now I exhort you to be a good cheer,
01:47:18.220 for there shall be no loss of any man's life among you but of the ship.
01:47:22.240 I love this, dude.
01:47:23.600 He says, nobody's going to die, man.
01:47:25.320 We're going to lose the ship, but take courage, guys.
01:47:29.040 Nobody's going to die.
01:47:30.920 How do you know, Paul?
01:47:31.760 Paul, because there stood by me this night the angel of God,
01:47:34.840 whose I am and whom I serve, saying,
01:47:37.940 Fear not, Paul.
01:47:38.900 You must be brought before Caesar.
01:47:41.480 And lo, God hath given you all them that sail with you.
01:47:45.940 Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer,
01:47:47.600 for I believe, God, that it shall be even as was told to me.
01:47:50.740 Howbeit we must cast upon a certain island.
01:47:52.820 But when the 14th night was come, as we were driven up and down in Adria about midnight,
01:47:57.300 the shipmen deemed that they were near to some country and sounded and found it 20 fathoms.
01:48:02.300 They could do a sound thing and see how long it took for it to come back.
01:48:05.420 That's how they knew how far away they were.
01:48:06.760 It's like a location.
01:48:07.520 And when they had gone a little further, they sounded again and found it 15 fathoms.
01:48:11.540 Then, fearing lest we should have fallen upon the rocks,
01:48:13.700 they cast four anchors out of the stern and wished for the day.
01:48:17.180 And as the shipmen were about to flee out of the ship,
01:48:21.300 when they had let down the boat into the sea under color,
01:48:23.780 as though they would have cast anchors out of the ship,
01:48:26.520 guys were sneaking off the boat.
01:48:28.340 Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers,
01:48:30.820 except these guys abide in the ship, you cannot be saved.
01:48:34.820 That's a heavy thing.
01:48:35.680 I'm not even going to unpack that.
01:48:36.700 Then the soldiers cut off the ropes of the boat and let her fall off.
01:48:40.320 So they believe Paul now.
01:48:43.020 And while the day was coming on,
01:48:44.640 Paul besought them all to take meat,
01:48:46.300 saying, this day is the 14th day that you have tarried and continued fasting,
01:48:50.240 having taken nothing.
01:48:51.700 Wherefore, I pray you to take some meat,
01:48:53.380 for this is for your health,
01:48:54.500 for there shall not a hair from your head fall from any of you.
01:48:58.760 And when he had thus spoken,
01:48:59.960 he took bread and gave thanks to God in the presence of them all.
01:49:02.260 And when he had broken it, he began to eat.
01:49:04.300 Then were they all of good cheer, and they also took meat.
01:49:08.020 And we were in all in the ship, 276 people.
01:49:12.460 And when they had eaten enough,
01:49:13.980 they lightened the ship and cast out the wheat into the sea.
01:49:17.000 And when it was day, they knew not the land,
01:49:18.700 but they discovered a certain creek with a shore into which they were minded,
01:49:21.840 if it were possible, to thrust in the ship.
01:49:23.580 So they're just trying to sail into this island, right into the creek.
01:49:26.320 And when they had taken up the anchors,
01:49:27.960 they committed themselves under the sea and loosed the rudder bands.
01:49:31.140 And hoist up the mainsail to the wind and made towards shore.
01:49:36.100 And falling into a place where two seas met,
01:49:38.400 they ran the ship aground and the forepart stuck fast and remained unmovable.
01:49:42.320 But the hinder part was broken with the violence of the waves.
01:49:45.700 And the soldier's counsel was to kill all the prisoners,
01:49:48.180 lest any of them should swim out and escape.
01:49:50.180 But the centurion, the dude who's in charge of everything,
01:49:53.220 willing to save Paul,
01:49:54.540 willing to save Paul,
01:49:57.800 kept them from their purpose,
01:49:59.620 kept everyone alive,
01:50:01.840 and commanded that they which could swim
01:50:04.680 should cast themselves first into the sea and get to land.
01:50:07.980 He says, all right, anybody who can swim, go.
01:50:09.880 Swim, get to shore.
01:50:11.540 And the rest,
01:50:13.780 some on boards
01:50:14.820 and some on broken pieces of the ship.
01:50:19.680 And so it came to pass that they escaped all,
01:50:22.840 safe to land.
01:50:24.540 So, like, it wasn't pretty, but they made it, man.
01:50:27.120 You can't swim here, man.
01:50:28.380 Get on this board.
01:50:29.920 They all made it.
01:50:32.120 Like, this is what's being said in this passage, man.
01:50:36.100 Your faith, your life isn't just about you.
01:50:39.300 Who's on your ship?
01:50:41.520 We have to come to terms with this, man.
01:50:43.480 Like, if you drop the ball,
01:50:44.780 how many others are going to lose now?
01:50:47.760 Of course, we first think about our wife, our kids.
01:50:50.900 But, like, how big is your ship and who's on it, man?
01:50:54.300 Like, if you don't walk this out,
01:50:55.980 how many others are going to lose
01:50:57.800 because you're not doing what you're supposed to do?
01:51:00.480 Do you see what I'm saying?
01:51:01.840 This is the Christian life.
01:51:03.160 It's not about us.
01:51:04.240 It's about everybody else.
01:51:06.700 Who's on your ship?
01:51:09.340 All right.
01:51:09.660 Verse 24, man.
01:51:10.620 This is the end.
01:51:11.280 I can't believe we've made it so far, man.
01:51:13.500 Like, in this story,
01:51:14.620 I can't believe we've done this many sessions on Jude
01:51:16.840 and get all the way to the end like this.
01:51:19.620 Killing it.
01:51:20.120 There's also something here I wanted to point out.
01:51:23.400 I think it was, sorry.
01:51:28.560 When he says the angel came to him,
01:51:31.540 yeah, for there stood an angel by this night here,
01:51:33.480 right here.
01:51:33.860 Yeah.
01:51:34.460 It's interesting because it pertains to
01:51:36.140 the earlier part of what you were talking about.
01:51:41.260 There stood by me this night an angel of God,
01:51:43.680 whose I am and whom I serve.
01:51:46.240 Amen.
01:51:46.900 That's like Elijah, right?
01:51:48.280 When he said,
01:51:48.920 I stand in the presence of God.
01:51:51.180 Yeah.
01:51:51.520 But who I am.
01:51:53.240 So he's talking about this thing
01:51:54.540 that is internal to him.
01:51:57.280 And then he also serves this.
01:51:58.160 He's saying,
01:51:58.300 whose I belong to.
01:51:59.660 But there stood by me this night,
01:52:00.800 the angel of God,
01:52:01.940 whose I am.
01:52:03.020 Like, I belong to God.
01:52:05.180 An angel of God came to me tonight.
01:52:08.060 The angel of God,
01:52:09.260 whose I am and whom I serve.
01:52:10.820 I belong to God.
01:52:12.260 I serve God.
01:52:13.420 He sent one of his angels to talk to me.
01:52:15.080 But I belong to him.
01:52:17.940 Because remember,
01:52:18.620 he's in the ancient pagan world, right?
01:52:20.460 He's trying to explain to them,
01:52:21.580 like, who this is that he's talking about.
01:52:26.040 All right.
01:52:26.600 So we're wrapping it up, man.
01:52:27.660 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling
01:52:30.400 and to present you faultless
01:52:31.840 before the presence of his glory
01:52:33.180 with exceeding joy
01:52:34.140 to the only wise God,
01:52:35.460 our Savior,
01:52:35.920 be glory and majesty,
01:52:37.080 dominion and power,
01:52:38.360 both now and forever.
01:52:39.520 Amen.
01:52:40.620 That's how he wraps this up, man.
01:52:42.600 And I just want to bring this,
01:52:43.760 I just want to bring this into view again, man.
01:52:48.120 Verse 21 says,
01:52:48.960 keep yourselves.
01:52:49.860 Verse 24 says,
01:52:50.900 now unto him that is able to keep you from falling.
01:52:52.900 Man,
01:52:53.400 we've really got to begin to live
01:52:57.580 in the balance of this reality, man.
01:52:59.520 You can avoid a lot of pitfalls of the Christian life.
01:53:02.140 Remember,
01:53:02.520 there's a straight gate and a narrow path, right?
01:53:05.560 And a lot of times in the Christian life, man,
01:53:07.980 there's like a extreme that goes this way
01:53:10.240 and extreme that goes this way.
01:53:11.840 One of those things,
01:53:13.720 hopefully if you never get drug into this conversation
01:53:16.340 about like Calvinism and Arminianism,
01:53:18.880 I think it's called Arminianism.
01:53:20.300 Like I cared that little about the topic
01:53:21.980 that I think it's called Arminianism.
01:53:25.460 Like there's this one thing that says like,
01:53:27.260 man does everything.
01:53:28.340 God doesn't do any of it.
01:53:29.380 It's all on man.
01:53:30.260 And then there's this other thing.
01:53:31.080 It's like, no, God does everything.
01:53:32.200 Man doesn't do anything.
01:53:33.360 We've got to learn to live in the balance
01:53:35.400 of those two things, dude.
01:53:37.060 You can't keep yourself from falling,
01:53:39.280 yet you're told to keep yourself.
01:53:41.540 You can't keep yourself.
01:53:43.760 Only Jesus can keep you.
01:53:45.780 Only Jesus can keep you,
01:53:47.120 yet you're still commanded to keep yourself.
01:53:49.040 We've got to learn to live in the balance of that.
01:53:51.860 You've got to learn to live in the balance
01:53:53.220 of this reality that it's my responsibility,
01:53:56.680 but I can't do it.
01:53:58.280 I can't do it, right?
01:54:00.000 So anytime I see this stuff,
01:54:01.800 I like to think like,
01:54:02.860 Lord, you're telling me to keep myself.
01:54:05.020 All I can do to keep myself
01:54:06.320 is pray to you to keep me.
01:54:08.500 Do you see what I'm saying?
01:54:09.300 I can't do it,
01:54:10.560 but it's still my responsibility.
01:54:13.540 Jude kind of wraps up the whole letter like this.
01:54:15.840 2 Peter 1 through 10.
01:54:20.180 I don't know if we had that in the notes.
01:54:24.300 2 Peter 1, 1 through 10.
01:54:26.040 It says,
01:54:26.480 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ.
01:54:28.800 These dudes are always a servant first
01:54:30.440 and an apostle second.
01:54:32.080 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ
01:54:34.520 to them that have obtained like precious faith with us.
01:54:37.840 Through the righteousness of God
01:54:41.900 and our Savior, Jesus Christ.
01:54:44.040 Not through our righteousness,
01:54:45.200 through the righteousness of God.
01:54:47.560 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you
01:54:49.440 through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,
01:54:52.240 according as his divine power
01:54:53.720 hath given unto us all things
01:54:55.340 that pertain unto life and godliness.
01:54:57.620 Do you know that his divine power
01:54:59.080 hath given unto us all things
01:55:00.660 that pertain unto life and godliness?
01:55:02.120 Through the knowledge of him
01:55:03.820 that hath called us to glory and virtue?
01:55:05.980 Whereby are given unto us
01:55:07.280 exceeding great and precious promises?
01:55:10.040 Some would say that the sanctification process
01:55:12.420 is simply accessing or walking out
01:55:14.840 or living in these promises
01:55:16.280 that have been given to us.
01:55:18.060 All of this has already been given to us,
01:55:19.600 but we're not necessarily accessing all this.
01:55:21.800 That is what the sanctification process is.
01:55:23.760 It's like,
01:55:24.400 as you go through that sanctification process,
01:55:26.420 you live in more and more of these promises.
01:55:28.900 That by these,
01:55:29.560 you might be partakers of the divine nature,
01:55:31.940 the nature of God.
01:55:33.400 Having escaped the corruption
01:55:34.620 that is in the world through lust.
01:55:36.020 That's like step one.
01:55:37.540 Step one.
01:55:38.080 Peter's about to list out some stuff,
01:55:39.880 but if you don't escape the corruption
01:55:42.540 that's in the world through lust,
01:55:44.760 you can't even move forward.
01:55:46.600 You have to escape the corruption
01:55:47.920 that's in the world through lust.
01:55:49.560 And beside this,
01:55:50.600 giving all diligence,
01:55:51.640 add to your faith virtue
01:55:52.820 into virtue knowledge,
01:55:54.560 into knowledge temperance,
01:55:55.780 into temperance,
01:55:56.560 patience,
01:55:57.360 into patience,
01:55:58.220 godliness,
01:55:59.080 into godliness,
01:56:00.040 brotherly kindness,
01:56:01.040 into brotherly kindness,
01:56:02.160 charity.
01:56:03.080 For if these things be in you
01:56:04.640 and abound,
01:56:05.700 they make you
01:56:06.560 that you shall neither be barren
01:56:08.440 nor unfruitful
01:56:09.260 in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
01:56:11.420 But he that lacks these things
01:56:12.820 is blind
01:56:13.460 and cannot see afar off
01:56:14.880 and has forgotten
01:56:15.540 that he was purged
01:56:16.480 from his old sins.
01:56:17.980 Wherefore the rather, brethren,
01:56:19.680 give diligence
01:56:20.460 to make your calling
01:56:21.580 and election sure.
01:56:23.300 Right?
01:56:23.740 This is just like when Jude says,
01:56:25.420 earnestly contend for the faith.
01:56:27.760 Give diligence
01:56:28.400 to make your calling
01:56:29.380 and election sure.
01:56:30.600 For if you do these things,
01:56:31.980 you shall never fall.
01:56:34.300 If you do these things,
01:56:36.020 you shall never fall.
01:56:37.380 Remember,
01:56:38.300 you can't keep yourself
01:56:39.940 from falling.
01:56:41.180 Only Jesus can keep you
01:56:42.260 from falling.
01:56:43.140 But if you do these things,
01:56:44.340 you shall never fall.
01:56:45.920 Like,
01:56:46.800 this is what's going on
01:56:48.140 in the scripture, man.
01:56:48.800 We have to live,
01:56:49.640 learn to live in the balance
01:56:51.220 of these passages.
01:56:52.480 Right?
01:56:53.220 I can't do this
01:56:54.120 in my own strength,
01:56:55.080 yet I have to.
01:56:56.680 I can't do this,
01:56:57.740 yet I have to.
01:56:59.140 So I have to do this
01:57:00.320 in the strength of God.
01:57:01.060 And that's what this whole thing
01:57:02.080 is kind of coming back to, man,
01:57:03.280 is letting God,
01:57:04.620 surrendering our life
01:57:05.460 and letting God live through us.
01:57:07.260 Because we can't keep ourselves.
01:57:09.240 Only he can keep us,
01:57:10.660 yet we're commanded
01:57:11.640 to keep ourselves
01:57:12.440 that we never fall.
01:57:13.320 This is like a specific passage
01:57:16.220 when I was reading it yesterday
01:57:17.360 preparing for this.
01:57:20.020 The Bible's hard to read.
01:57:22.140 It's like a,
01:57:23.420 like I think you said it yourself,
01:57:24.880 it's a puzzle, right?
01:57:26.300 But this is one of them.
01:57:28.120 As I'm reading it,
01:57:29.140 it makes this a lot easier to read.
01:57:31.880 What do you mean?
01:57:32.660 I don't know.
01:57:34.060 It was a weird,
01:57:34.780 it was a weird one for me.
01:57:35.680 But as I was like reading through this,
01:57:37.140 that specifically,
01:57:37.940 where he's talking about like,
01:57:38.880 and if you do this,
01:57:40.320 this leads to this.
01:57:41.620 Then you take that
01:57:42.420 and that leads to that.
01:57:43.380 And I'm like,
01:57:43.720 oh, they're just like instructions.
01:57:45.320 He's just telling you how to do this.
01:57:47.260 And it kind of like opens up your eyes.
01:57:49.640 The these and nows
01:57:50.640 and all that other,
01:57:51.420 like the old language,
01:57:53.920 which is,
01:57:54.480 I think is necessary
01:57:55.420 reading in the King James.
01:57:57.080 I don't like reading these other versions,
01:57:59.020 but it does kind of like,
01:58:00.080 sometimes you're just reading the words
01:58:01.600 and you're kind of like,
01:58:02.320 what's happening here?
01:58:03.360 It makes you very dependent on God
01:58:04.900 because this isn't like a,
01:58:06.400 like King James English
01:58:07.820 is not a language.
01:58:08.880 That I especially talk in.
01:58:10.900 I don't talk like,
01:58:11.960 like this.
01:58:12.580 When you come to the coffee shop,
01:58:13.580 like that,
01:58:13.980 like this nice and this clean
01:58:15.540 and this intellectual
01:58:16.280 is not my style of language.
01:58:18.100 Yeah.
01:58:18.360 Yet when I read it,
01:58:19.200 it forces me to slow down.
01:58:20.820 It makes me slow down.
01:58:22.760 Right.
01:58:23.420 Like it makes me slow down
01:58:24.820 to where I had to say,
01:58:25.680 wait, what?
01:58:26.440 And they say that it's translated
01:58:27.900 like word for word.
01:58:29.160 There is a certain codex though,
01:58:30.880 in which you're reading this,
01:58:32.760 that it's just like not unlocked
01:58:34.580 until certain moments,
01:58:36.820 I suppose.
01:58:37.360 I know I've,
01:58:37.820 I've heard this from people.
01:58:38.740 People that can't read
01:58:40.020 like Owen Benjamin.
01:58:41.160 He said,
01:58:41.420 I can't read the,
01:58:42.260 this dude's very smart.
01:58:43.520 Can't read it.
01:58:44.760 For me,
01:58:45.140 it was the opposite.
01:58:45.840 I was very stupid
01:58:46.720 and it was the only thing
01:58:47.740 I could read.
01:58:48.820 It was like the opposite for me.
01:58:49.840 I could never read anything,
01:58:51.100 man.
01:58:51.160 I would never ever read.
01:58:53.200 And then I was 19
01:58:53.960 and I got a Bible
01:58:54.700 and I couldn't stop reading it.
01:58:56.080 It was like the craziest thing,
01:58:57.480 man.
01:58:57.940 It was like the craziest thing,
01:58:58.860 but that was an NLT type of Bible
01:59:00.560 where it was just like plain English.
01:59:02.460 But yeah,
01:59:02.800 man,
01:59:03.040 like not only are you putting
01:59:04.880 the puzzle pieces together
01:59:06.080 as you accumulate more information,
01:59:08.080 not just that,
01:59:09.420 but you're being changed.
01:59:10.840 Your capacity is changing.
01:59:12.500 You're growing your capacity
01:59:13.920 and you're getting more puzzle pieces.
01:59:16.500 That's why in the beginning,
01:59:17.500 it's the hardest.
01:59:18.460 You have way less capacity.
01:59:20.680 You have like no puzzle pieces
01:59:22.140 and you're trying to make sense of this.
01:59:24.260 But if you can get a buddy
01:59:25.440 to kind of help you out
01:59:26.460 and guide you along,
01:59:27.620 kind of point out some passages to you
01:59:29.380 and kind of get you going,
01:59:30.460 that's what the entire library is.
01:59:32.340 It's like all these great men of God
01:59:33.460 who have come before us
01:59:34.380 and they can kind of carve out
01:59:35.680 this path for us
01:59:36.480 and show you,
01:59:36.980 hey, hey, go down this path.
01:59:38.140 Go down this.
01:59:38.720 Read it.
01:59:39.280 Oh, now this kind of makes sense.
01:59:41.160 Now more stuff makes sense.
01:59:42.760 Now as I continue to read the scripture,
01:59:45.000 not only am I getting
01:59:45.860 more and more puzzle pieces,
01:59:47.080 but I'm better at puzzling now
01:59:48.380 because it's changing me.
01:59:49.520 As I'm reading the scripture,
01:59:50.660 it's not a novel.
01:59:51.800 Jesus said my words are spirit
01:59:53.100 and they are life.
01:59:54.060 As I'm consuming this,
01:59:55.320 it's actually changing my structure.
01:59:57.100 It's actually changing me now.
01:59:59.100 You see what I'm saying?
01:59:59.900 It's changing me
02:00:00.880 and now I have more puzzle pieces.
02:00:03.020 So the beginning is the hardest,
02:00:04.280 but once you get going,
02:00:05.720 once you get to a point ultimately
02:00:07.200 where you can't go away from it,
02:00:09.400 like you need it every day,
02:00:10.820 like you need the word of God,
02:00:11.980 like you need bread and oxygen.
02:00:13.560 But for a while,
02:00:14.460 it's not like that
02:00:15.180 and you have to cultivate that discipline
02:00:16.780 to get to that point.
02:00:18.160 For me as a learner,
02:00:19.060 this happens all the time
02:00:20.420 with a guitar,
02:00:22.560 you hit a block
02:00:23.540 and then there's like a certain thing
02:00:25.740 that might not even come through
02:00:27.300 like actually doing it,
02:00:28.700 but it breaks
02:00:29.320 and I go,
02:00:30.140 oh, duh.
02:00:30.920 And then I like,
02:00:31.440 you move forward past it.
02:00:32.400 I'm just saying like that,
02:00:33.320 this one here was like
02:00:34.580 that thing for whatever reason.
02:00:36.320 I don't know why.
02:00:37.300 The whole study
02:00:38.020 or the two Peter?
02:00:39.560 Well, I mean,
02:00:40.020 I guess maybe,
02:00:40.740 I don't know,
02:00:41.000 in conjunction with the study
02:00:41.960 because I'm preparing
02:00:42.740 all these notes,
02:00:43.520 so I'm obviously like reading them
02:00:44.620 and putting them in order,
02:00:45.920 but that one,
02:00:46.740 I guess this is the last one
02:00:47.860 and I looked at it
02:00:48.940 and I was like,
02:00:49.240 yes, stupid.
02:00:51.820 That's how it felt.
02:00:52.860 Oh, yeah, that's good.
02:00:53.720 Yeah.
02:00:55.720 That's good.
02:00:56.620 So we're going to wrap up.
02:00:58.880 I'm just going to pray.
02:01:00.080 I'm going to pray
02:01:00.720 because like,
02:01:01.760 I just feel like
02:01:02.340 this is a great way
02:01:03.100 to wrap this up, man.
02:01:04.920 Are we done?
02:01:05.660 Did you want to say anything else?
02:01:06.880 No.
02:01:07.440 Okay.
02:01:08.080 God, I just want to,
02:01:09.220 I just want to thank you
02:01:10.580 that we even were able
02:01:11.800 to do this study.
02:01:13.040 This whole thing
02:01:13.780 is still so crazy, Lord.
02:01:15.140 Like these,
02:01:16.380 like these two crazy dudes
02:01:18.600 just come in the shop
02:01:19.660 and then they're just like
02:01:21.760 these local guys
02:01:22.760 that have this podcast
02:01:23.660 and now all of a sudden
02:01:24.460 like you're using my voice
02:01:25.660 and you're using the word of God
02:01:26.860 to communicate
02:01:27.560 through some kind of technology system
02:01:30.460 with, I don't know, man,
02:01:31.860 with all the cameras
02:01:32.540 and the lights
02:01:33.160 and the microphones
02:01:33.820 and this just came out of nowhere
02:01:35.840 and somehow we did
02:01:36.760 this deep dive
02:01:37.420 on the book of Jude
02:01:38.220 that was this like
02:01:39.060 great blessing for me, God.
02:01:40.740 Like you know
02:01:41.420 how great this was for me
02:01:43.240 to just take this book,
02:01:45.200 like this little,
02:01:46.220 it's like this one little chapter
02:01:47.700 and we cross-referenced
02:01:50.000 like a hundred passages, man,
02:01:51.560 over like six or seven studies
02:01:53.100 and you guided me
02:01:54.280 and instructed me
02:01:55.000 in this whole thing
02:01:55.700 and it was this really wonderful thing
02:01:57.360 and I'm really grateful for this, God.
02:01:59.780 I'm grateful for this whole situation
02:02:01.380 and I'm grateful for like
02:02:02.840 anybody who's stuck around this long
02:02:04.880 to hear this, God.
02:02:05.860 Like people,
02:02:06.560 like normal church people
02:02:07.960 are not sticking around
02:02:08.960 for two hours, God.
02:02:10.900 For like two-hour studies,
02:02:12.240 who's doing that, Lord?
02:02:13.700 Clearly these are the ones
02:02:14.820 that like you're grabbing,
02:02:15.820 like you're drawing their heart
02:02:16.920 and you're grabbing them.
02:02:18.040 This is not anything
02:02:18.940 that tickles the flesh.
02:02:20.160 This is not anything
02:02:20.980 that like fakers
02:02:22.320 or hypocrites
02:02:23.080 would ever want to listen to.
02:02:24.860 Like what faker
02:02:25.820 and hypocrite
02:02:26.400 would ever want to hear
02:02:27.440 these kind of messages, God?
02:02:30.140 And like you've brought real ones
02:02:31.480 and somehow made my voice
02:02:32.700 do a thing
02:02:33.440 to help attract real ones
02:02:35.480 to your heart, God.
02:02:36.440 And that's what I'm always praying for
02:02:37.980 in this process
02:02:38.720 is that I'm just introducing people to you
02:02:41.440 and introducing you to them
02:02:43.080 and then I'm like
02:02:43.960 getting out of the way, hopefully.
02:02:45.160 Like I'm just saying like,
02:02:45.960 Jesus, Susie.
02:02:46.760 Susie, Jesus.
02:02:47.500 And then boom, I'm like,
02:02:48.400 hey, you guys call me
02:02:49.140 if you need anything.
02:02:50.480 And so I'm just very incredibly grateful
02:02:53.200 for this whole process
02:02:54.200 and I really do pray
02:02:55.820 that you help everybody here
02:02:57.020 to really understand this thing
02:02:58.420 that we brought up in the end
02:02:59.660 which was living in light
02:03:01.080 of the reality
02:03:01.860 of it's our responsibility
02:03:04.940 yet we can't do it.
02:03:06.960 Help us, God.
02:03:08.120 Help us.
02:03:08.640 Like if we have a destiny,
02:03:09.840 like if we're predestined,
02:03:11.280 help us to fulfill the destiny
02:03:12.760 that you made us for.
02:03:13.940 Like we can't do it.
02:03:15.080 We're destined to do it
02:03:16.140 and yet we can't.
02:03:17.100 We can only do it in your strength.
02:03:19.160 Help us to live like that, God.
02:03:21.160 You know another big thing, Lord,
02:03:22.980 that you know,
02:03:25.040 especially over the last year
02:03:26.260 has been this big thing for me.
02:03:27.880 It's trying to live in light
02:03:29.480 of the reality of me and you.
02:03:32.060 Like not getting up
02:03:33.640 and like living my life
02:03:34.600 in the reality of like a coffee shop
02:03:36.500 or a farm or like whatever.
02:03:39.100 I don't know all the things of the earth
02:03:40.360 or what's in the news
02:03:41.300 or what's going on in the economy
02:03:43.540 or any of these things, Lord,
02:03:44.840 but living in light of the reality
02:03:46.560 of me and you
02:03:47.260 and like just going about the day like that,
02:03:50.560 just going about the like
02:03:51.800 whatever's happening
02:03:52.820 or whatever's being said
02:03:54.040 or whatever gets done,
02:03:55.300 like living in light of the reality
02:03:57.180 of this is a story about me and you
02:03:58.800 and like me and you
02:03:59.520 are just walking around the earth.
02:04:00.880 I pray that you would put that
02:04:02.220 in everybody that's listening,
02:04:04.520 that they would begin to live this life
02:04:06.160 in light of the reality
02:04:07.540 of them and you
02:04:08.840 and they would just be walking around
02:04:10.440 and that would be their mindset
02:04:11.740 about how they're living today,
02:04:13.980 that they would be very mindful
02:04:15.160 of the reality of you and them.
02:04:17.240 God, that's my prayer in Jesus name.
02:04:19.320 Amen.
02:04:27.180 God, that's my prayer in Jesus name.
02:04:33.800 God, that's my prayer in Jesus name.
02:04:35.960 Amen.
02:04:36.820 Amen.
02:04:37.940 Amen.
02:04:38.740 Amen.
02:04:39.800 Amen.
02:04:40.140 Amen.
02:04:40.200 Amen.
02:04:40.460 Amen.
02:04:40.720 Amen.
02:04:40.960 Amen.
02:04:41.400 Amen.
02:04:42.060 Amen.
02:04:42.260 Amen.
02:04:42.980 Amen.
02:04:43.520 Amen.
02:04:44.100 Amen.
02:04:44.600 Amen.
02:04:47.140 Amen.
02:04:48.240 Amen.
02:04:49.380 Amen.
02:04:49.760 Amen.
02:04:50.080 Amen.
02:04:50.940 Amen.
02:04:53.940 Amen.
02:04:54.480 Amen.
02:04:55.940 Amen.
